I can't seem to get this done. And I've had problems in the past trying to do this also. I tried Windows "Files and Settings Transfer" but I never had any LUCK with that software in the past. How do I do this? On this PC I'm using Vista HM X86.

This would also help me transfer IE8 Favorites from this Vista PC to one of my XP PC's, which I also failed with using Windows file transfer software (included with both OS's).

Just export your IE favorites, copy the file to the XP machine, and then import them. To export, open IE and select File, Import and Export, Export to a file, and proceed.

FF bookmarks copy as a link, but show up as plain text in Notepad and in the email when recieved.

Are these videos on youtube.com? If so, you can send links to them right from youtube. To do that, go to the video on youtube and click on the Share button below the video. Select Email and proceed.

My impression is that your way of going about this is much too laborious. Why not just copy the URLs directly into an email message in your Yahoo Mail, which will save them as hyperlinks? If you have about 25 to send, I see no reason this should take anywhere near two hours.

Few days ago I was having a problem accessing the Internet. CALLED my cable co. who CONVINCED me not the problem. Tried all I could THINK to do even tried to use windows update, which would run thru everything then give message that I have all the files but they cannot be downloaded. Went to try to update browser couldnt. then did the stupid thing went into Internet Explorer in the add/remove and clicked remove and go back to orginal version. Forgetting there wasn't another version on my computer.

Now all runs well can reach any sight, but, cannot use windows update.

Is there any way other than reformating to redo.
I have tried to run SETUP no help.

However my last question was can you copy other things completely. I don't care what they are. For example i am going to copy the very last line of your last posting which is " I hope that now I have given a better explanation". Now all i did to do that was starting at the right end of that sentence (you could also do it starting at the left end--or the beginning) i simply placed the mouse cursor at the end of the sentence and traveled with the mouse until all of the sentence was highlighted.With it still highlighted i depressed the "Ctrl" keyboard key and the letter "C" at the same time.Then once you open wherever you want to save it to(copy) just depress the "Ctrl" and letter "V' key together and what you highlighted will be saved (copied). Now if i understand your problem if you were to try and highlight that same sentence it would only allow you to highlight a portion of it. I am getting the impression that your browser is "Google Chrome". Perhaps that is what is causing your issue. I do not use that browser. I use Opera and Internet explorer 8 and occasionally Mozilla Firefox. You might want to try and do what you want using a different browser. As an example i was on a site a day or so ago in Opera and the description of the ITEMS (an auction site) did not always match the picture of the item (about 30 % of the time). However when i went to the same page in IE 8 everything was perfect. I don't believe it was so much the fault of the browser it was how the site was created by the originator and it's compatibility with Opera. I suggest you try another browser. truenorthIt's the only browser I know I worked with him for years!
It never gave me problems.
But somehow, I can not this that being parted from your browser (as far as I know) Google Chrome is the only kind that keeps passwords and downloads a TOOLBAR that asks if you save the password.
And much faster than other browser I know.

i am having problems, like I go on the internet and go to like say a email card site and want to click on to a card, the window opens and closes, it will not open for me and stay. Help this is frustrating?
Windows XP and internet explorer 6.
It could be a Pop-Up stopper doing it's thing, try holding the CTRL KEY down when you go to the card site. Otherwise, if you have a program like SPYWAREBLASTER or PrevX, it may not like the junk the card site is trying to dump on you and kills the window before it can d/load the junk.

I used to be able to use Photobucket, but dimness and old age seems to have overtaken me! I now cannot upload photos to it. I can get as far as the screen shot below, but cannot see any "open" button to click on to upload? It looks like it may be lower down the top section of the screen, but again I cannot see how to get down to it?

Is there a good search engine that will filter out results from ebay, commercial sites, and such?

For example, searching for information on a Garmin GPS machine brings up pages and pages of sites selling it, but all I am looking for is a REVIEW.

Another example, I'm searching for a LAPTOP part to purchase. If I search on 'zt1180 motherboard', I get pages of expired ebay auctions, and sites that pay for these search TERMS but don't have what I need.

What kind of internet connection do you have? Is it something your ISP does? Have you contacted your ISP?

Most broadband connections are on 24/7. I am on dial-up. No parental controls on. Don't know if anything else is activated. I am a dumby about computers. Thanks.From long time ago (thank goodness) i remember this issue when i was on a 56k dial-up modem. Something that can CAUSE your issue is 'line noise" on your telephone line. This is an issue related to the telephone line quality instead of something you can address with your own equipment. When i had it usually in early spring with water run-off and thawing ground conditions i was able to get my local telephone company to change their line connections (until after a few YEARS they exhausted all those) and eventually they put in a new line from the JUNCTION box. Then came DSL and all that is now but a bad memory. However if you are having yours on a prescribed interval IE after exactly 4 hours as OPPOSED to random then it probably is an issue with your ISP provider doing something. truenorth My first guess that if you are on dial up it is some thing your ISP is doing. The way that dial up ISPs and broadband ISPs handle incoming traffic is very different, and broadband ISPs are usually designed to handle more traffic than dial up ISPs, so a dial up ISP may be more protective about it's lines than broadband ISPs.

First contact your provider and see if it their policy that is kicking you off. If not it could be a phone line problem. I thank everyone with the opinions. I will contact my provider.

not exactly SURE why or when my display for IE 6.0 changed but now when it opens it is much smaller and when I maximize it- it doesn't stay max'd. Also, somewhere on my PC I think I remember a place where I was able to change mt SETTING re: wether or not my pages opened in diff. windows or the same. I had them opening in diff. now they are opening in the same.

dl65 I am GETTING your response now so I will repeat my question as clearly as is possible.
When I am using anything within the internet explorer,ex. address list or opening a favorites folder then clicking on a file, the letters "l" and "i" are highlighted in orange. THe whole word is not highlighted: just the two previously mentioned letters.
I have checked a variety of settings,programs but can not find the cause. this does not happen when VIEWING web pages or other files.

Andrew..... cwShedder will identify and reset your home page. You may have to D/L hijackthis to completely rid yourself of the pest. That toolbar probably contains a browser hijacker. Have you checked in CONTROL panel / add /remove programs to see if the toolbar shows up there ? If it does remove it from there .

dl65 You may be able to use Advanced uninstaller Pro 2004 to remove any add-on bars from Internet Explorer. However, it does not detect them all.I think the problem in the FIRST place is that you have Yahoo search bar, i think it is evil and gives you pop-ups as well as unwanted spyware and adaware.

try download Ad-Aware SE and Spybot Search and Destory, both of which are freeware and will help clear the junk out of your computer.

i WOULD say delete it and if you go with any outside search bar for your IE use the Google search bar. It has a built in pop-up blocker which works great and blocks about 90% of your popups -if not more.

Running XP and upgraded to IE8 from version 7.

After the UPGRADE, I can no LONGER RIGHT CLICK, VIEW SOURCE, and do an EDIT there on LOCAL html pages I'm viewing. I find it annoying to have to go to Windows Explorer.

I do get an HTML display of the page code, but I can't change it. Thius display is actually another window - not the code coming up in NOTEPAD as with IE7.

The IE8 HELP on changes was no help.

Well, you could copy and paste from that code SCREEN to Notepad. Or, you can save the code view that you get from IE8 as a file and then open the file with Notepad.

Otherwise, I suggest using a different browser such as Firefox or Opera. Thank you for the suggestions.I asked this question because I have some local HTML pages that go under near constant editing.

After some thought, I've come up with the best solution so far, just for everyone's INFORMATION. This was to create a folder on the desktop, copy the HTML links to it, then open it and RIGHT CLICK + EDIT. Much faster than bringing up Windows Explorer, finding the file, then doing the right-click edit.

It would be even nicer if I could save Notepad files to the desktop, but there seems to be no way to do that.

I use windows 98. For some reason my DIAL up connection will only work for about a minute, but most often fails to connect and reads "failed to connect to REMOTE computer". I have checked with my service provider and there is no problem on their end. Do you have any ideas as to what COULD be causing this? dl65 if your homepage keeps GOING to something like "about:blank" or ALONG those lines go to internet options and click on the default button. My friend had this same problem and typing in a homepage manually would not fix it, but once he click on the default it fixed the problem.

also try downloading ad-aware se, spybot search and destory -- run these and it should take care of your problems. they are both freeware

also, if you're having problems with popups and you want a freeware popup blocker, try downloading the Google toolbar. It has a pop up block on it that will block about 90-95% of all popups. Usually im against toolbars added to IE because they introduce spyware, popups, etc onto your computer, but SINCE having the Google searchbar I've had on average 1 pop a day and no more unwanted programs being downloaded onto my computer behind my back.

I cannot clear my Temp Internet Files. The computer locks up every time I try. I have forgotten the command thru The "Run" menu.... APPARENTLY I LET the file get too large to delete thru options...Win98Josh ROSS....Odd .....exactly how are you trying to delete Temporary Internet files ?

I have noticed that on some computers when you access the a url in the history of internet explorer and go to preferances for it, it will say visited "0" TIMES...i was wondering how this would happen. After I click on the link once though and do it again it says PAGE visited "1"...is the only WAY for this to happen for someone else to be BOUNCING things off of my computer or is there another answer? i have problem in sign up for yahoo, when i register at yahoo i can't see the TYPE THE CODE SHOWN at the bottom, you will see it at the bottom of the sign up form. there is no letter or number COMBINATION shown, and also if i click the NEED AUDIO ASSISTANCE i did'nt here anything and also the background of the sign up form is only a plain WHITE. i use google chrome as a web browser? what should be the problem? should i have to download some software? thank you very much. thank you! I am unable to login to any pages that require a password. THis includes my HOTMAIL account (even to the point of not letting CREATE a new account), my Raodrunner xpresspay account, and Microsoft Downloads. I just get the "THis page cannot be displayed" message.

When I TRY to get into MSMessenger, I get the FOLLOWING error code:0x81000301.

When I try to get into the Microsoft Download page, I get this error: 0x8024502D.

I am able to access all accounts on my Ibook, but not on my PC.

This started last night. I'm having problems on multiple pages. I can surf normal and from what I can tell most websites are working properly. Just not the 3 that I spend 95% of my internet time on.

Facebook - I just get a white screen with the blue facebook bar on the top.

Yahoo email - Some of the buttons are missing. My contacts aren't showing up

Shutterfly - Tells me when I TRY to log it "javascript::void submit form" and I can't get any further than this.

What I have done
- Restart my laptop multiple times.
- Uninstalled and reinstalled java (x2)
-Cleaned out my cookies/history
-updated a windows update that was due
-ran spyhunter
-ran macafee (STILL running)
-defrag was just done 4 days ago so i didn't run another one
-I checked that scripting is enabled on my internet


I am at a COMPLETE loss! I consider myself familiar with a COMPUTER and can usually find my way around with a little direction. Please go easy on me with abbreviations!!

I was not able to hit the big green button because it wasn't loading on the WEBSITE for me. It just wasn't there before. Now that I'm fixed I see the obvious green button. 20 mins ago it was just open space.

My 2½¢Try moving your mouse ove the search entry so it is highlighted and pressing the delete key. You COULD try the Firefox broswer http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ which has advance privacy tools in its options. I'm not sure if it removes the search HISTROY from Internet Explorer though.

MY IE has been HIJACKED and is ESSENTIALLY unuseable. Suggestions made in this forum and others have suggested Mozzila Foxfire as a BROWSER. I successfully downloaded Foxfire, everything appeared to work in that favorites TRANSFERRED and I was able to access web pages and view them. IT HAS NOT WORKED SINCE. I have a DSL connection via Earthlink. I connect to EarthLink via the DSL connection icon on my desktop then click on the Foxfire icon (previously, at this step I would - and still can - click on the IE icon). The connection to Foxfire fails with the message that something is not right about my proxy server settings. My initial contact with EarthLink Chat was a failure since the chat person told me EarthLink does not offer support for Mozilla. You COULD also try going into your Windows folder and looking in the Temporary Internet Files folder (if you're on XP etc it may be in a different location). This contains files recently viewed by the computer. Most of it will be junk eg button pictures which aren't much help but some of it may be porn, if viewed recently and not cleared out. I can't give you much better advice because I have never tried to track activies like this before.

Net NANNY may help to block porn websites and control his activities but I would try talking to him first. I'm no relationship counceller and I'm not telling you how to father your son, but I think a good TALK about the subject with him first might help.

I recently had a problem with my AOL and so i uninstalled it and installed it again. I checked I was a CURRENT member and entered my signin info. It opened ok but i noticed my favorites had disappeared. I have reinstalled AOL before and not lost my favorites so I don't know what happened this time. Is there some way to restore them. I have a lot of important things there and it will be a "monster" to try to REDO them myself. Man I'll never remember them all. Can anyone help me? I know a long time ago (years) this happened and AOL told me how to restore them but they now CHARGE to help you with this stuff. I hope SOMEONE out there has a suggestion...I'm desperate. See if any of these articles correspond to your problem.This is win9x.....yes......dump ie 6 and use 5.5..........if this problem persists.....save files to disk and re-load system..I'm still having lots of problems with runtime errors. I think I'm going to have to reformat at this point. In ADDITION to the previous problems, I can no longer download or install software. I have lost all of my desktop settings and taskbar shortcuts, as well.

I only want to use Netscape.
Set Netscape as your default browser. You can remove the IE shortcuts but uninstalling it would probably be a bad idea, as some PROGRAMS use it to run.You can, and you can't. Set Netscape to be the default browser. Don't delete IE (except shortcuts, if you want). I have upgraded from windows xp to windows 7 32 bit.
When using my explorer 8 browser, every time I try to type anything, it prints a letter or two but then An error window pops with an error message saying "Assert Failed in 'FSRC\Fwindow.cpp' line: 48 ", when I click Ok to continue, it lets me type a letter or two and the message re-appears.Does anyone know how I can fix this?
I have uninstalled explorer 8 through the CONTROL Panel\Programs and Features \TURN Windows features on or off\ Uncheck Internet Explorer 8... rebooted , and turned it on again which reinstalls it. This didn`t help.

Working away today minding my own and boom about 6 desktop short cuts appeared, stuff like casino , poker, travel etc. i tried to delete, bin and move them, no affect what so ever. Regards Jim.Jimbo......I would try and remove the icons without using system restore just to be on the safe side. Go into your control panel / Add or remove programs....... see if there's any NEW additions in there that you didn't download ......if there are delete them .....I dont think they came from Micro Soft . The other thing you could try is reboot into safe mode and see if you can delete them from there . If they are only shortcuts then there must be a small app lurking somewhere in your pc .....right click on the icons and select properties.....that MAY lead you to were they are hiding .
As robertmillar suggested ....using another browser really isnt fixing the problem........because you do need IE.

Go to http://lop.com They have removal instructions on what to remove via the control panel, and if that doesn't work (as in my case) they have an uninstaller that can be downloaded. When I ran it I was told that there were only remaining bits of the original installation left and was given the opportunity to remove them. As a bonus it also removed the unwanted popup that always came up and sat on the top of my home page.run Desktop Cleanup wizard.You need to get a firewall..... If you already have one, then you need to turn-up the security setting... A firewall will block access to the programs, so they can not be installed on your computer...

It appears that my search bar has a search in it that I did not put there this directs the search to the WEB and these annoying shortcuts appear. Now the search is gobbdlygook (spellcheck!) and I cannot find it anywhere else. I have tried right clicking on the icons but these I fear are not made to be in any way changed. Properties do not appear and to that EFFECT nothing else will appear. Attempting to move or delete them has no effect what so ever. I have at present removed them by a sys restore but do agree its not what I want to keep doing. I have moved to Mozilla and removed bad search bar request and replaced with my mozilla home page. set my cookies higher and have sat back and waited, two days now and they have not reappeared. Whist I am happy with this I would like to know if a repair is effected and how. The only thing I can think of at the moment is this: my computer does not always go into sleep mode as it is supposed to and I can be a little impatient at it waking up. The firewall has not kicked in before my request to go on line is accepted so I could be unprotected for a little while. thats my slant on it all, I may be talking abosulute rubbish to the knowledgeable amoung you but it is as it appears.
