Solve : Saving FF Bookmarks - IE8 Favorites to a file in order to send via Yahoo Mail?? |
Answer» I'd like to get the links to some video's I have saved in "Bookmarks" sent via Yahoo mail to a friend so he can go through them to watch the videos I have bookmarked (~25 links) I'd like to get the links to some video's I have saved in "Bookmarks" sent via Yahoo mail to a friend so he can go through them to watch the videos I have bookmarked (~25 links)So, copy and paste is too much of a burden for ~25 links? Quote from: lectrocrew on January 29, 2011, 02:06:27 AM This would also help me transfer IE8 Favorites from this Vista PC to one of my XP PC's, which I also failed with using Windows file transfer software (included with both OS's).Just export your IE favorites, copy the file to the XP machine, and then import them. To export, open IE and select File, Import and Export, Export to a file, and proceed. Quote from: soybean on January 29, 2011, 09:34:56 AM So, copy and paste is too much of a burden for ~25 links? I guess not. I was just wanting a quicker solution since my job has me ~ 60 hrs a week lately. But thanks for the suggestion. I'm out of blank CD's right now and I'm having no luck transfering files to my flash drive right now for some reason, (I'll start a new thread for that if needed). So, I got the transfer done for both IE8 and FF, using a different process for each. I copied them to Notepad then pasted-as-text and attached the file in an email to myself via yahoo. But it's a slow process: ~ 2 hrs for me. FF bookmarks copy as a link, but show up as plain text in Notepad and in the email when recieved. And keeping up with which is the next bookmark to be copied needs to be recorded on paper (for an old 50 yr old brain like mine). IE8 favorites will not copy from the favorites menu as a url address. The link has to be opened, then added to favorites via "Add to Favorites", then that url will copy-paste into the notepad DOCUMENT. And when returning to the IE* favorites menu, the last favorite copied is still hilighted, so no brain or paper record is needed to show which entries have already been saved (this helped alot for me). And the IE8 links show up as a link in the recieved email, so that makes it easy to access the site, and each url shows as read (purple) in yahoo mail, therefore, no brain or paper again. Quote Just export your IE favorites, copy the file to the XP machine, and then import them. To export, open IE and select File, Import and Export, Export to a file, and proceed. I tried this but the problem seems to exist with the flash drive I'm trying to use. The XP machine will not open the file. (Maybe this is because the files came from a Vista PC, I don't know? As I said, I'll start a new thread to deal with that issue if I can't figure it out. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your help soybean!!! You've helped me on here before so hat's off for your efforts. Quote video's ... sent via Yahoo mail to a friend so he can go through them to watch the videosAre these videos on youtube.com? If so, you can send links to them right from youtube. To do that, go to the video on youtube and click on the Share button below the video. Select Email and proceed. Quote FF bookmarks copy as a link, but show up as plain text in Notepad and in the email when recieved.Of course. Notepad is a simple text editor; it does can not save a URL as an ACTIVE hyperlink. My impression is that your way of going about this is much too laborious. Why not just copy the URLs directly into an email message in your Yahoo Mail, which will save them as hyperlinks? If you have about 25 to send, I see no reason this should take anywhere near two hours. Quote from: soybean on January 31, 2011, 02:38:59 PM Are these videos on youtube.com? If so, you can send links to them right from youtube. To do that, go to the video on youtube and click on the Share button below the video. Select Email and proceed. Some are Youtube but others are vehicle accidents on the Young News Channel. I don't see a share link on YNC, but I can copy the URL address and paste it directly into the email. (See below post). And I also have bookmarks that open other type of sites such as my bank login page and pages I login to monthly to make payment for auto insurance, cable tv/ internet service ect., and, of course, NONE of these have a "share" link. Quote My impression is that your way of going about this is much too laborious. Why not just copy the URLs directly into an email message in your Yahoo Mail, which will save them as hyperlinks? If you have about 25 to send, I see no reason this should take anywhere near two hours. This works fine and much quicker than how I was doing it (saving the URL to my computer 1st). I just didn't think of it. But this means I have to open every link. I was originally just wanting to copy the list of links for transfer without opening each one. BTW: I got my flash drive working now so I'll try the "Import / export" procedure when I get time. Thanks again. Try Copy/Paste....it should still pick it up as a hyperlink... |

Solve : Re: unwanted site access? |
Answer» You want parental control software? Some ISP's (internet service provider) offer this or you can purchase it. Ask your friends what they use. I regret to SAY the Proxomitron web FILTER is well and truly dead Worth downloading the 'remains' (As they call it)?Use my link above or here. It's still alive and well, even if the originator has died.Cheers, I'll look into that. Do you still use it?All the time. Works with all versions of Windows. I don't surf without it. I don't even notice any slowdown, if there is any. It also, doesn't interfer with other popup programs. I've got Yahoo popup blocker enabled, too. Here's another link: http://www.proxomitron.info/ This one has the installer versions.I have considered recommending The Proxomitron several times but didn't because of the myriad of questions that was sure to follow and I don't have the time to follow up. I have used it since its inception and would not even consider connecting to the net without it. You can block anything you want blocked and practically REWRITE a web page as it loads. Once you get the hang of it, it is the best web filtering program ever written - bar none.netzero has some good software for blockingI have MSN (the web browser) and it has superb controls! Try it! Solve : search toolbar? |
Answer» does anyone know how I can delete/remove the history of the sites I have visited? I've been "job searching" at work, and NOTICED how MANY incriminating sites I've visited. I've already deleted under Internet Options and Cleared History. I've deleted cookies, etc. I'd hate for someone to sit down here (like Mr. BIG) and notice what I've been up to on company time.Advanced System Optimizer V2what is that? You've already cleared the Internet history... what else is there to do? Just hope that the company doesn't keep a record of what sites you visit... or look for a new job on your own COMPUTER in your own free time.Quote what is that? Click the link...either use disk clean up....or tools internet options delete files and history......and RIGHT click on the taskbar for win9x PROPERTIES click then advanced tab click....and click the clear box ...some companies use software that can track where all of their computers on the network have visited, where they are visiting, and everything else they've been up to on the company computer.... hope they dont have that, and if they dont and youve cleared your history, temp int files, and cookies then you should be good to go.... you could alway say it just popped up... |

Solve : Research pane missing? |
Answer» I have Windows 7, Internet Explorer 8 and office 2010. I have the research feature in Office but do not have the Research pane on my internet explorer toolbar. I have tried to MANAGE add-ons and it is not listed as an add-on. How can I get it?You mean the search box in which you would enter a search word or phrase for an Internet search, right? It normally appears to the right of the web address box. Is your web address box DISPLAYED? How much WIDTH of your browser window does it use when your browser window is maximized? What do you see at the right of the web address box? It's not the regular search bar. There is a right arrow chevron next to the help ?. When I click on it, it should bring up a research heading that you can use to search reference books, dictionaries, etc.. All I have is One-Note and Blog this. Which I manage add-ons, research isn't even in the add-ons categoryQuote from: katfen on January 19, 2011, 09:22:56 AM Which I manage add-ons, research isn't even in the add-ons category"research" doesn't appear in the screen for Manage Add-ons in my IE8 either. What does appear there is "Search Providers", on the left side of the Manage Add-ons panel, under "Add-on Types". Do you see "Search Providers" in your Manage Add-ons panel? Yes, I have search providers, yahoo, bing and ask are the options. I think I am missing a file or something or maybe the research function isn't a part in IE 8."research function" wasn't part of IE7 either, so I don't know where you're getting the notion of a "research function". You have the search box which, obviously, would be used to research a topic. If you want to add to yahoo, bing and ask, click on the the drop down arrow next to the search box and select "Find More Providers". This will open a web page from which you can select additional search providers. To add any of them, click on the "Add to Internet Explorer" button on that page. I am taking a COMPUTER class and one of the assignments was to use the research function. I am just going to assume I don't have it and can't get it. Thanks for your help.Well, I suspect there's some confusion in terminology here. I suspect the "research function" is actually the search box that's a standard feature in IE and other browsers. Or, it means the TECHNIQUE or method of doing effective research on the Internet rather than a browser feature. By the way, here's a reference you might find helpful in your class: http://www.internettutorials.net/boolean.aspResearch Pane: View->Explorer Bars->Choose "Research". Well, heck, I completely missed the target here. |

Solve : Help change from IE to Mozilla Foxfire? |
Answer» MY IE has been HIJACKED and is ESSENTIALLY unuseable. Suggestions made in this forum and others have suggested Mozzila Foxfire as a BROWSER. I successfully downloaded Foxfire, everything appeared to work in that favorites TRANSFERRED and I was able to access web pages and view them. IT HAS NOT WORKED SINCE. I have a DSL connection via Earthlink. I connect to EarthLink via the DSL connection icon on my desktop then click on the Foxfire icon (previously, at this step I would - and still can - click on the IE icon). The connection to Foxfire fails with the message that something is not right about my proxy server settings. My initial contact with EarthLink Chat was a failure since the chat person told me EarthLink does not offer support for Mozilla. PERHAPS I should have pursued it further but I did not at that time.----- Why would not the proxy settings that work for IE work for Foxfire?Quote MY IE has been hijacked and is essentially unuseable... You must fix that before attempting to use Mozilla. Scan for viruses, trojans, hijackers, etc. Install firewall. Read this first: http://www.winxpcentral.com/basics/secure1.php Try reinstalling Firefox. |

Solve : how do i restore my AOL favorite places?? |
Answer» I recently had a problem with my AOL and so i uninstalled it and installed it again. I checked I was a CURRENT member and entered my signin info. It opened ok but i noticed my favorites had disappeared. I have reinstalled AOL before and not lost my favorites so I don't know what happened this time. Is there some way to restore them. I have a lot of important things there and it will be a "monster" to try to REDO them myself. Man I'll never remember them all. Can anyone help me? I know a long time ago (years) this happened and AOL told me how to restore them but they now CHARGE to help you with this stuff. I hope SOMEONE out there has a suggestion...I'm desperate. Searching on your behalf produced this Searching on your behalf produced thisThat's a very old reference, so I'd be doubtful of its relevance now, although I'm really not familiar with AOL nowadays. I do know that the AOL of today is much different from the AOL of a decade ago. I would not be using them for email now. AOL has shifted it's focus to being CONTENT provider, not an ISP. If I had an AOL email account, I think I'd be switching to some other email service as soon as possible. But, I'm not really clear on what the topic is here. What is "AOL favorites"?Neither am i however i was endeavoring to provide information that had some relevance to the topic. My anticipation was based on the assumption that the O/P was still doing this until recently when the "favorites" was lost by virtue of the reinstall process. While i do concede the O/P may have been using a version of AOL that DID permit this function and that perhaps it is still retained in whatever version was recently installed. Another possibility is that AOL may charge for tech help via phone but they may also provide free tech support if the request is done via the slower e-mail process. Some do some don't. I imagine we shall have to await the return of the O/P to see what if any assistance my link was able to provide. truenorth |
