Solve : IE freezing? |
Answer» I'm having problems with IE. It is freezing when trying to open, it takes to long, when opened and link is clicked, it takes about 60 seconds to open and this just happens everytime a link is clicked on. Takes about 60 seconds to turn pages. I am using Opera now but I still need IE for some things Opera won't do. I have defragmented computer, ran ad aware and there were alexa viruses on it and I deleted them and today they are back. I keep running ad aware and spybot and housecall antivirus. House call didn't pick up any virus but ad aware did. I have also deleted files I don't need and did a disk cleanup. Computer runs fine until I get on the internet and try to use IE. I also did the repair IE that was in the IE service pack. What else can I do? After all of this it did start working for about 5 minutes then it started all over again. Thanks, Ronda Ronda R Hunt....Some QUESTIONS for you re your issue, What operating system are you using ? the Alexa ......thing is it a toolbar , a WEBPAGE or what..... Exactly which antispy software are you using? Ad-Aware SE from Lava soft should remove it and SpyBot Search and Destroy should do the trick as well. I am supicious that there are entries in your registry which keep it coming back .....You have to go into the registry and find and remove those referances .....Caution ....if you are not used to deleting things from the registry ...........make sure you backup your registry before deleting items from there . Use the search function of registry to find Alexa ....there . Using another browser isnt really fixing ANYTHING .....THATS like putting a band aid on a injury which requires surgery to FIX. let us know dl65 I am using spybot search and destroy and ad aware SE Lavasoft. I don't know if the alexa thing is a toolbar or a webpage. Is there away to check? and how do I get into the registry? Thanks RondaAlexa is a spyware pest.....if you have adaware it should be in the quarentine folder delete..it....or trey this>http://www.download.com/Alexa-Toolbar-Removal-Tool/3000-8022_4-10340522.htmlI downloaded the alexa toolbar remover and I'm still having trouble with IE. I deleted everything in the ad aware quarantine files. I still can't get IE to do anything. I don't see alexa on ad aware anymore. How can I go into the registry and delete it and what am I looking for? Or could this be something else? Thanks Rondahttp://www.opera.com/support/service/applications/?session=89f1d1ab7f5c31acd800ba6f3f0c83f4 see if this helps....??or run a another trojan killer program.........like stinger.......Spyware Doctor fixed all my problems. I downloaded it free from Cnet.com and it cleaned the registry and took off all the bad stuff. I recommend this to anyone who is using spybot search and destroy and ad aware programs and it doesn't solve the problem. Thank you Computer_God and everyone else. Ronda |

Solve : Firefox and Adblockplus question: How to prevent popups from Megaupload? |
Answer» The Topic is 9 months old...Quote from: patio on January 07, 2011, 10:05:31 PM The Topic is 9 months old... If you don't want people posting anymore in this topic, perhaps you should close it then? The LAST time popups have been anything more then a extremely minor annoyance for me was in 2003 when I was using IE6. At that time there were msot certainly ways to automatically install things which were more design flaws then anything else. (the old trick of showing two new popups when you close a popup) You simply terminate all iexplore instances with TASK manager and start it again. With FF you would do the same thing and then choose "start new session" on the session recovered screen. Getting the browser to download something without the users CONSENT is nearly impossible nowadays, let alone having that file be a program and then getting that program to run. And those capabilities that are exposed generally require at least some user INTERACTION. (for example, using a GIF of a dialog box to make you think you can press the X but clicking anywhere on it will take you to the linked site). If you are REALLY paranoid, disable javascript.Quote from: knownote on January 08, 2011, 07:17:03 AM If you don't want people posting anymore in this topic, perhaps you should close it then? |

Solve : can't view jpeg by name in picture save box? |
Answer» Hi, I have win 98se with what I believe to be the latest version of IE. a few days ago, I downloaded an update from Microsoft. (some kind of DRIVER) Anyway, whenever I save a jpeg or anything else, the title to what I saved is NOT visible in the "Save box" I would then save it again & it would say it already exist and would ask to overwrite it. When I leave the internet & look at it through windows, it's there. When I go back on the internet & save another jpeg/file to the exact location, nothing is there except what I saved BEFORE I downloaded the update. I tried to reset IE to its default settings but it doesn't help. I DON't remember the driver I downloaded so I can't delete it. Anyone with suggestions? Solve : cannot set hope page address? |
Answer» something has happened to my WIN XP that prevents SETTING the home page address via Control Panel, Internet Options, Internet Properties, Home page address. I can enter the address once (http://start.earthlink.net) and when IE as activated I get my earthlink start page. But the NEXT time I access IE, I will get "about:blank" as the opening page. Inspection of Control Panel shows that "about:blank" has replaced start.earthlink. "about:blank" has other malcious BEHAVIOR as when it opens it immediately initiates downloading unasked for crap. I have scanned my computer via McAfee Virsus Scan v4.5.1 and it turned up nothing. But obviously, something is wron.download shredder>>>http://www.intermute.com/spysubtract/cwshredder_download.html and this may help to prevent it happening again>>http://www.wilderssecurity.net/bhblaster.html or use firefox.awstokes.....Hummmmmm, sounds like you have a browser hijacker.......CWShredder will identify and reset your home page .....but if the hijacker is still lurking you should probably D/L and install hijackthis..... |

Solve : problem running IE7? |
Answer» BASIC Setup Windows XP SP2 When I command IE7 to run, It opens as normal, then can not load the website, or any website and stays blank white without saying "cannot display" or any other message, I am using a computer in the next room to access this website and everything works fine. The problem computer has a connected status from cable provider and DISPLAYS the same ITP settings as the good computer. I have ran AVG 9 and Malware-bytes, neither found a problem although I SUSPECT malware. Anyone experiancing the same issue or have a clue how to correct a problem without identifining it first ?In IE: Tools/Options/Connections/LAN settings.....is use proxy checked ? ? If so you are most certainly infected.... You can uncheck it and it may run properly a few days but the condition may return. Visit our Malware and VIRUS section and follow the info on posting your logs. Be patient...they tend to get quite busy over there. Please do not post the same question more than once. I responded in the other thread and am locking this one. |

Solve : Fire fox not responding? |
Answer» I have firefox installed on my lap top with Win 7, every time I open the internet, I get firefox not responding with the busy icon just going on and on for long time, then I can not open any application and I have to switch off the computer from the main power switch. please help then I can not open any application Of what? Other computer software programs installed...? Which made you a force shutdown. Thanks for your reply, YES I got the same problem with internet explorer and, YES I can not open any application on the computer software, I can not do any thing and I have to shut it down and START again!!!Have you tried reinstalling one or both browsers with updated versions? Make sure also Java, Adobe flash player are up to date. Try running IE with no add-ons. Close IE browser FIRST. Click Start, Programs, look for IE and click on no Add-ons. Check the result. Just disable ur anti virus and have check again.. and let us know the result.. Regards, RanHi, My suggestion is to go to safe mode and uninstall firefox from there.Quote YES I can not open any application on the computer software, I can not do any thing and I have to shut it down and start again!!! This tells me it's NOT a Firefox issue... What happened since the machine was working properly ? ?If it's not the anti-virus, maybe you HAVE a virus.. Quote maybe you HAVE a virus..Most likely...Actually this could have been due to so many reasons. If you had given more information I would have been more specific. But I will tell you what to do: -You can basically try a different browser. -Install FIRE fox (a new copy). -Install updates to the fire fox. -Check whether you have accidently changed the properties of fire fox. -Find out whether the copy of windows seven you are using is original. -Perform a full virus scan. _______________________________________ ___________ inbox REPAIR tool It seems that there are many possibilities. Wait for the result. Because I am interested in this problemI also experienced the same problems on firefox after installing some plug-ins. It takes too slow for firefox to respond even though my internet connection and OS is fast. |

Solve : IE 7 RANDOMLY crashing...? |
Answer» I usually use firefox ANYWAYS, but IE is just faster to load.. Anyhoo.... I never had this problem before but lately my desktop and laptop BOTH have been having this problem.. I'll be using IE 7 and out of nowhere it will just close... no error, nothing, just close. Just curious if anyone has any ideas on this. I've had no reports of a VIRUS on either computer so I don't think that's the ISSUE unless it's a plug-in maybe? I was just wondering if anyone else has this issue or know what it is maybe it's a bug in IE7 or a plug-in INCOMPATIBILITY or a poorly written plug-in that I have on both computers. Any ideas? |

Solve : No Sound on Internet Video? |

Answer» When playing a video online, I cannot hear sound. This happens at every website. What could be wrong?Anyone know why this could be happening?More info needed.. I've got the same problem.. Acteh it's usually best to START a new Topic even though the issue may be similar so it RECIEVES the proper attention... And Welcome Aboard both of you !I am on Windows XP. I use internet explorer. You said at EVERY website...So I can't be SURE that's what it is, although I know that WILL do it. I know divx is a big one for me.. Every time I redo windows divx is PART of my "getting all my stuff downloaded again" process. What about youtube? becuase those are actually FLASH files I believe. Solve : Problems with Google Chrome? |
Answer» I do a lot of work on the internet so I'm pretty much always running multiple tabs. I just switched to Firefox because it seemed LIKE Chrome would lose its connection to the internet after a while of running multiple tabs. Has anyone else run into this problem? I ran all the necessary updates but it just randomly loses connection. Checked my wi-fi .. all good, and ran other browsers immediately after the error with no problems. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!Approximately how many tabs are open when this happens? Is Chrome stable with a small number of tabs open? Have you observed any relationship to length of time online with Chrome? In addition to the former. Actually Google Chrome requires high internet speed.Define high internet speed. Quote from: garry6stephen on December 21, 2010, 10:46:46 PM I think when you open multiple tabs, Google chrome automatically works slowly,Non-sense. That's simply not true. I've never seen any documentation that Chrome needs any faster speed connection than any other browser. A lot of it depends on what tabs, or websites, are open, and if they do automatic updates. That will take up bandwidth and CPU cycles depending on how often they update. I use Firefox as my main choice, and Chrome as my second choice, and I have never seen any problems with either with multiple tabs open. Quote from: soybean on December 21, 2010, 10:54:29 PM Define high internet speed. One browser may load a webpage faster than other browser on same internet connection. But you can use any browser with any internet connection (as long as you can install it on your machine, that is)Quote from: 2x3i5x on December 22, 2010, 12:17:53 PM One browser may load a webpage faster than other browser on same internet connection.No. The only difference will be in rendering time, and those differences come at different prices. If you really wanted the fastest possible rendering then you'd find some skunk works "superspeedy browser" that parallelized the drawing of every single element into a set of threads and pegged the CPU(and all cores on that CPU) for however long it takes to finish rendering. No display would be shown until the results had been acquired- no progress load no nothing. The toolbar wouldn't even respond- after all, redrawing the button would mean taking precious power from rendering the page, which would *gasp* make it slower!, What people are comparing half the time when they say "Browser X is faster then browser Y" is perceived speed, not actual speed. Things don't SEEM to take as long when you know how long is remaining. There have been a number of experiments done in this regard for years; such as having a document re-paginate (back when it would take long enough to be usable in this test) and show a progress bar versus not showing any output; First they had a version of the program that pretty much pegged the CPU, showed no output, and quite literally tried to re-paginate that document as fast as possible. Then they used a version of the same program which was more "co-operative" with the system in that it yielded to other applications, it drew a progress-bar/% complete thing during the entire process, and so forth. Despite the new version taking almost 25% longer, users on AVERAGE reported a dramatic increase in the "speed" of the program. This is absolutely no different with browsers. All Browsers running on the same OS will download data at nearly the same rate. (They can provide bullet points like "streamlined download pipelining" but it's all a load of nonsense.*) Once those files are downloaded- and probably during - it renders the page. Some browsers render as elements are loaded, others try to "predict" where the elements will appear on the page (so there isn't a lot of stuff moving around during the load). Firefox waits a second or so to start rendering a page (the idea being that within a second there should be "enough" of the page for it not to be a confusing mess). Others wait longer, or don't even bother to render until after the entire thing is downloaded. All of this results in different perceptions about the speed that often do not coincide with the actual speed's in question. But Again, as has been reiterated so many times; it doesn't make a *censored* bit of difference what browser you use. People like to make these claims that "well, if a page loads on average a tenth of a second faster and you browse through a modest 500 pages a day, you're saving over 50 seconds! Then they do all sorts of statistical munging like saying "and that translates to over 5 hours of time you save by using this browser B!" Thing is you can take any obscenely small time savings and multiply it into larger time scales so that it seems relevant. If I have a pot-hole on the road that takes me an extra quarter second for me to go around, do you think the City would care that I waste 3 minutes a year doing so? Seems insignificant! but if I become a cyborg and live for 5 million years, that's over 28 years! well they'll have to do something then! This is made worse because often times the "statistics" that are being munged aren't even measured statistics, they'll be perceived statistics, so they'll go around and ask people "how much faster does browser A feel to you" and the people might say "feels about a good half second faster at least for each page" so of COURSE at this point it's important to note that sometimes the browser that "feels" slower is in fact measurably faster then the other, so the overinflated munged and contrived statistics are in fact completely meaningless. This no doubt finds it's way into even the most studious benchmarks, as the people performing the test are almost always biassed, so when they run their "preferred" implementation, they'll make sure to do stupid stuff like disabled all sorts of background processes and other tasks. But they won't often show the same care for the other side. Personally, unless somebody can quite literally produce a process Monitor log that quite clearly shows a time difference between browsers, it's all a bunch of opinions being held as fact. And even if somebody does measure it, who the *censored* cares? We also waste time eating and sleeping, should we try to shave precious tenths of a second off every sandwich we make? of course not. *I have quite literally toyed with this. I would ask some of my small set of computer savvy friends something like "did you know that Browser A has Deluxe TCP/IP channeling?" And either they'd pretend they knew or be genuinely curious and actually switch to that browser based entirely on a nonsense feature that I didn't even explain.I have had numerous problems with Google Chrome.... fortunately they are getting less... Less Flash Crashes, less freezes. One solution that solves a lot of Chrome problems is to clear the Cache regularly and Browsing history. When these get cluttered, chrome slows down! i don't think the number of open windows is the issue, but people like me who open a number of windows regularly also tend to build up a large cache and history files. I have two chrome problems that that seem to remain... and WOULD APPRECIATE HELP ON THESE! I also continue to have numerous problems with Firefox that persist on Windows 7. Firefox is slow to start or does not start at all .... cancel it in the task manager and try again.... Occasionally Chrome will not accept 'box input', eg a user name in a box... it will just return to say 'enter user name' or something. The other remaining problem is that it does not warn me that a site is trying to open a pop-up that I might like to see. Then it seems that the site is not working. I have learned to switch over to Firefox on these occasions.... try giving Chromeplus. It's a chrome based browser, and it has other features not coming with chrome directly (or can be added with extensions), including IE Tab. First unistall your browser and reinstall in your computer to recover the problem. |

Now its cooler and it can play videos again ^_^. Only problem is that with my new IE somehow the slideshow gadjet stopped working -.- I have a feeling that when IE9 goes gold, you'll have to uninstall IE9 beta in order to get the official RTM version. Am I right on that?MS states it will install over the top...can't find the article at the moment but i think it was on bink.nu...Quote from: patio on December 06, 2010, 04:30:32 PM MS states it will install over the top...can't find the article at the moment but i think it was on bink.nu... ok if this is confirmed, then that's GOOD. Solve : Deleting History from the address bar? |
Answer» Although I have gone to Tools/Internet Options/Browsing HISTORY... whenever I click the down arrow on the right of the address bar, I keep on seeing visited sites under a History header (a Favourites header with some of my favourites also APPEARS). Even if I click the X button on the right of each entry, they keep on appearing each time I click again in the down arrow and the drop down appears.I cannot ge rid of them. Any hint about how to get rid of that and why it happens?Guessing you are USING one of the latest version of IE select |

Solve : IE 7 is moving very slow? |
Answer» I run IE 7 on Windows XP and I am on DSL on my desktop. For some reason every TIME I log on to IE 7 it takes 30 seconds to a MINUTE for each page to load. At the same time my laptop at the house only takes 5 seconds or less to load each page so I know it is not the Internet provider. Seven days ago it stormed real bad and my machine lost power acouple of times. Could this have affected my system? The guys at Circuit City TELL me that I should back everything up and use my recovery CD. But surely there has to be a better way than that to fix my problem. What about the system restore? The only real use it has is for Windows updates anyways...Forget about updates through IE, as well. Use Firefox + WindizUpdate (http://windowsupdate.62nds.com/)...and on a side note... I'm really tired of all those posts about IE problems. There was, and there is something wrong with that crappy browser, and that's it.Check out this site Spam Link Removed |

Solve : Can't open IE7? |
Answer» I'm using a desktop machine with Win XP Pro Sp3, Intel core 2 quad and 4 GB RAM. I was using IE6 quite happily, but after MICROSOFT's incessant BUGGING to upgrade to IE7 I finally caved and downloaded IE7. The download went OK and IE7 appears in "Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe". HOWEVER, I cannot initiate IE7 either by clicking on the icon or by clicking on iexplore.exe. When I do, the hourglass blinks for a fraction of a second and then - NOTHING! I can access the internet fine with Firefox. |

Answer» ok this is no regular Ban. I am using a library COMPUTER and IE. There is some way that you can ban someone from your site VIA IP and they won't even be able to LOAD the page... this is twice that it has HAPPENED to me... How do i get aroun dit or even find out if my IP has actually been banned?Start by explaining the ban and what happened... Think you gotta get a new IP addressIt's gonna be hard to force library to change their IP.
