Solve : WOT pulled from Firefox, Chrome?

Answer»

From life-hacker (Last month):
Web Of Trust Extension Pulled From Firefox, Chrome After Privacy Concerns
Quote

The German newspaper FAZ managed to get a statement from Mozilla about the removal. ACCORDING to the statement, Web of Trust was pulled because it violated add-on guidelines, and specifically transparency in regards to the add-on's collection of user DATA.
So if I want to see how WOT rates any web site I have to USE my Android tablet?

Web of trust collects personal information about it's users and sells it to third party advertising COMPANIES. Probably best not to use it at all, to be honest. How strange they named it "Web Site of Trust".
Too bad. It seemed like a very GOOD idea.

I have an old smartphone I seldom use. I think I will remove the SIM and clear out all the personal data and use it only when I want to use the WOT plug in.

Solve : Why Does Login Information Disappear??

Answer» Hello: Wondering if someone could tell me or explain why my login data or information disappears when I log on to my PC each day after I have LOGGED off and put it on "sleep" mode the night before? I'm referring to sites which require a username and password or any other login info. An example being where I've entered my username and then clicked on "remember me" so that I don't have to continuously REPEAT the entry process each time I log back on to the particular site. Now the username or information NORMALLY stays present during the course of the day but it seems it only disappears when I log on to my PC the next day and attempt to log into a specific website that require a username and password, etc. Is there something in the PC settings maybe that I need to set in order for the information to remain so that I don't have to re-enter it each time I access the particular site(s) that require it? I'm using IE-11 if that helps. Appreciate any help in the matter.
Thanks. I haven't used IE11 for quite some time, so I can't really directly address the issue you have with it. I SUGGEST using Firefox. The save-password feature in it has always worked fine for me. It is a THING the browser does.

Solve : Chrome's text turned gray and flipped on some websites?

Answer»

It seems gray and off SUDDENLY and im not sure if its something I did, but here is the same page on both chrome and edge browser to show some kind of comparison to how it should look. Anyone have advice?

Chrome is on the left and edge is on the right: http://imgur.com/a/GjnXy Either that LINK had been highlighted/opened...or the cursor is right by it.So the cursor is by NUMEROUS links at the same time? give me any youtube video and I can snapshot it with the same appearance shown. I mean, if the text was blue I would UNDERSTAND but its not gray when I highlight things. If you clikked on that contact link it's gomma show in any browser you open in the current session...It looks like you might have some sort of add-on installed, possibly an add-on which alters youtube comments or changes how they appear which no longer works properly. Or it is supposed to flip around the header and body of EVERY comment.

Solve : Google Chrome history sync?

Answer»

I installed chrome on my computer. I did not sign in Chrome . I went to facebook. Normally, chrome remembered it in history. After few days I logged in Chrome. My question is "when I logged in, did chrome synchronised history from my computer( I mean on history of websites that I visited before I logged in chrome)?"
No...Chrome has about 50 % of the market share, some experts say.
Even if that were true, it is not a reason to stick with Chrome.

Using ANOTHER browser would help identify the issue being the browser.. The OP did not make it clear why he thinks some Chrome feature is the cause of the symptoms.
Here's a video how to try and get Chrome to behave. (Sip ads.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mGi_7iyiU4

There is no issue...he asked if chrome logged history if he was not logged in...answer was No.

Kinda simple if you read the Post.Thank you very much. I opened this topic because I noticed something weird. 5 days ago I was looking some photos on my USB. I opened them in Windows Photo Viewer (that build in viewer that is in Windows). I never opened any IMAGE file in Google Chrome but I saw every image file in history in Google chrome. When I REMOVE my USB Chrome can load that images from history even if USB is removed. I saw that Google Chrome loads them from cache. Why Google Chrome remebered that pictures. Also it doesn't happens when I open images from hard drive. I have ESET antivirus so I dont think that I have a virus. Why is Google Chrome doing that? I think that Google Chrome is not synchronising cache but I am not sure.Thats chrome seeing Windows pic view history...it would happen with any browser you opened a pic with...I want to make sure that you understood me. When I sad I logged in chrome I mean on SIGN IN CHROME function in chrome settings. When I sign in chrome, chrome OFFERS me to choose what I want to sync.Quote from: patio on December 01, 2016, 02:52:38 PM
Thats chrome seeing Windows pic view history...it would happen with any browser you opened a pic with...

So, that is normal? And also can you explain what you mean by Chrome seeing Windows Photo Viewer history.Any file management functions in Windows ...whether good or a bad feature..remember the last state that function was used...for example if i save a pic to a specific folder...even after a re=boot the next time i save a pic it'll open to that folder by default...

Personally i hate it as a "feature"...but it is what it is.

Solve : Problems with startup pages and blank pages?

Answer»

I am running WIN 7 on a Toshiba Satellite 64 bit. I am using igHome as my home page and have Chrome, Yahoo and FIREFOX as browsers. Lately, I have been REQUIRED to log in each time I go to each browser. For example, I have three accounts on Chrome and am required to log into each account. Then if I leave the computer and it turns off, I am required to log in again The same with Yahoo and any log in site I have. I feel that there is a setting somewhere that I need to adjust but don't have a clue as to where.

Thanks.
drhckThis is not a direct answer. This is a suggestion about how to isolation the problem.
Go into the Windows control panel and select the users. Create a new user with the same privilege LEVEL. Then log off and log into the new user.

Now inside the new user, open Firefox and go to the Google web site. Do not log in. do not make a new account. You do not have to log into Google to use it.

Try it also with other browsers and other web sites. Most general purpose web sites do not require you to log in. It is up to you. Limit yourself to how many sites your med to log into to use.

Does that help any?

Solve : Youtube and adblock plus - long delay before video starts?

Answer» FIREFOX & AdBlock PLUS and Youtube video delays

Over the past month I have noticed long delays between when clicking on a video to play and the video playing. I have plenty of bandwidth with 25/5 mbps broadband internet package and no one is using up all the bandwidth when this happens. Two DIFFERENT computers have the same issue. It use to work where you click on the video and the ad isnt played and the video plays within about 2 seconds or less. Now its like there is a 8 to 20 SECOND delay or longer on the rare occasion with a dash cartwheel and then the video FINALLY plays. I gave it some time to see if it would correct itself and it isnt, so figured I'd check here to see if anyone else has had issues like this.

Was wondering if anyone else running AdBlock Plus with Firefox was running into this issue of long delay and cartwheel before the video will play from youtube? If you turn off AdBlock Plus, does the problem stop? Try these:
1.disable "allow some non-intrusive advertising" - try again
2.disable all other extensions, try again with only ABP enabled

3.if it still happens, reset firefox.

I am also having this problem with almost every web site I go to - including Firefox. Starting in safe mode is not an option for me.

This is a recent issue. Does Firefox need to change its programming?

I'm about to change to a new browser since this slows my work to an intolerable level.

Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off
hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables
add-ons (extensions and themes). If the problem goes away,
that tells us one thing. If it does not, that tells us something else.

Here is a long list:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/18900/consumer-antivirus-software-providers-for-windows
Some have free VERSIONS. Others other trail versions. Too many choices. But you must make a choice. If you really can not choose, try:
Microsoft Security Essentials
Is it any true that Microsoft Security Essentials rank last in the list of anti-virus software? As in it lacks the complexity to detect smart trojans and malwares. Any true? Here is some background about MSE:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Security_Essentials
Notice that some big guys were critical of MSE because it gave users another choice in a field they thought overcrowded.

Microsoft's announcement of its own AV software on 18 November 2008 ...Trend Micro claimed that the integration of the product into Microsoft Windows would be a violation of competition law.
So you might expect that Microsoft would not make the free tool very powerful or impressive. However, it does do a good job keeping out malware.
Right now I have it on my Windows XP machine. Works for me.

Solve : Weird behavior in chrome?

Answer»

Hey sorry if this is a dumb question. The CHROME pdf viewer keeps opening I close it before it reads whatever pdf it is. Could This be some kind of attempt at executing some javascript? This is sometimes accompanied by pop up webpages that do a bunch of redirect. Never SEEN it until recently. HP laptop running Windows 10. Thanks. What do you expect Chrome, or any browser, to do when it encounters a PDF file? Quote

This is sometimes accompanied by pop up webpages that do a bunch of redirect

Install Malwarebytes and do a full scan, sounds like you have something else going on here. PDFs are safe unless you follow a URL within one that requires you to click on. Also what websites are you at when you have this issue or is it all websites?Or you can try disabling chrome pdf viewer and enabling the ADOBE one. If the issue still persists, than you may need to look out for anti-malware programs. Quote from: Gusey on October 09, 2016, 12:28:47 AM

This is simply not an issue. As I said in my previous post, "What do you expect Chrome, or any browser, to do when it encounters a PDF file?" If you don't want to see PDF files open in your browser, then don't click on links to them.

Solve : IE and face book?

Answer»

For the last few days, I cannot post anything on face book. I use IE as my default browser, but I opened face book in google chrome and everything worked... I did clean out the cache and did a SYSTEM restore to no avail. It must be a PROBLEM with IE since it works on Google Chrome... Would appreciate any help with this..I'd run malwarebytes to make sure your browser/computer didnt get hit by something. The free edition can clean up problems LIKE this. The other cause for a problem like this is when the browser properties are misconfigured such as someone messing around in the options to connect through a proxy etc.It may be a BLESSING you can't get on Facebook...just sayin.I can get on face book, just can't post stuff.
Did you run a scan for malware and did it detect anything as a problem? Are you sure you are not banned from posting on Timeline, and this can happen even when the ban is partially lifted. Another option can be: In the Help Center, click on "Timeline"
Scroll down to "Bugs & Unknown Issues"
At the bottom of that page, there is a statement that says: "If the issue you're experiencing isn't listed above, please 'tell US more' <--Click on the "tell us more"
A screen says, Report an issue with timeline, click "other" Add your subject and/or details then click send.

Solve : Google Chrome Browser Bookmarks Bar?

Solve : Win 10 chrome v. 53 wildly high data upload/sent bandwidth?

Answer»

Win 10 chrome v. 53 with KIS, all other extensions disabled, why is the browser upload bandwidth wildly high. windows update is disabled?Upload bandwidth has nothing to do with Win updates...those would be DLoad bandwidth...
It's likely your PC has been compromised into a spambot rig...
DLoad and run RUBotted."Upload bandwidth has nothing to do with Win updates" incorrect. google windows 10 updates which by default uses your pc and bandwidth to distribute the update uploads, much like a torrent scheme. unless you change the settings you download from the ms network and random pc's and upload to random window 10 users. check it out.

i will check the infection possibilities but they would have to have gotten by kis and malwarebytes, which is of course entirely possible.Who told you that ? ?...Source please ? ?Quote from: patio on September 25, 2016, 06:18:23 PM

Who told you that ? ?...Source please ? ?

It's a default Windows 10 option. in Windows Update, Advanced Options, Choose how Updates are Delivered. The option is "Updates from more than one place" and can be turned on or off. If enabled there is the option to either restrict providing and receiving update data to the Local Network, or allow it to work across the Internet. The default options are to have this setting ON and set to "PCs on my local network, and PCs on the Internet".

More info.BC_Programmer pretty much COVERED the reference on the ms updates distribution. you COULD google it. this is not a closely kept SECRET. there was plenty of debate about how underhanded it is to literally steal your bandwidth. i do get it is COUNTER intuitive but it is a fact.

i heard that adobe flash player plugin was flagged by google due to security concerns? is that true?

LAST I heard it was use at own risk. Very low risk of any problems unless you go to questionable sites from what I have been told. Firefox to protect the public switched flash to DISABLED by default and its simple to teach Firefox to accept the risk and run it anyways. It was a smart decision on Mozilla's part to prove that they strive for EXCELLENCE with security concerns to BEST protect the public when using their browser. It also washes them of any security liability had they known of the issue and not taken such action to protect the customers.

Solve : In private brower IE 11?

Answer»

I'm using Windows7 on my laptop, Inspiron 9400, and IE 11. 95% of the time I use Firefox, but occasionally NEED IE to do some other work. Problem I'm having is getting IN PRIVATE browsing to open when I click on the icon...nothing happens. I know this isn't rocket science and can use it on my desktop with XP with IE8 with no problems...I can open a thousand if I want to but I can't open squat with this laptop. Any ideas why? Maybe I'm over LOOKING something since W7 is new to me.

I've never used it. Like you, I rarely use IE. So I clicked and it immediately opened.

Let me do some searching and see what can BREAK this. Is your Win 7 32 or 64 bit? I tested this on my 32 bit Home Premium desktop computer. Just fired up my 64 bit Home Premium netbook and it works on there too.

FIRST check that is is enabled
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/62135-internet-explorer-inprivate-browsing-enable-disable.html

When you open IE 11 normally and then hit ctrl+shift+P does an inprivate browsing window open?

If so, then probably the shortcut on your Programs menu is broken.

Here's how to create another shortcut
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1277-internet-explorer-inprivate-browsing-shortcut.html

Thanks for the reply. It's 64 bit. I am curious if it is ENABLED but never thought about that, never occurred to look. With XP IE8 it's comes up automatically. I'll check out that link and get back to you. Thanks.
The first link was a bust...nothing happened. Second link option 2 manually added but can't figure how to add it to task bar??? Right now it's on my desktop. have to look into adding it to SOMEWHERE...The article included a link to Pin to taskbar
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/397-taskbar-pin-unpin-program.htmlYep. I got it. I can keep on the taskbar or the desktop. Thanks for those LINKS.

Solve : Interesting Firefox issue to share?

Answer»

A friend told me that Firefox stopped working. It stated when launching Firefox that it could not load firefox PROFILE and that another instance of it was RUNNING. With no other instances running I asked him what was the last thing you did before it broke. He stated that he was hiding his data from others when it broke. I then looked into his system and his USER profile was HIDDEN from view even when logged in as him in C:\users for Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

I asked him if he HID his profile and he said yes. I went into Windows and showed him how easy it is for anyone else to see hidden in the control panel properties for the system and then his profile was exposed to be hidden.

I went to properties of his profile folder and unchecked hidden and it took about a minute to unhide all files and folders contained within it.

Then went to launch firefox and firefox loaded with no problems.

So for some odd reason Firefox doesnt like the user profile with hidden attribute. I personally would have thought that it shouldnt matter if the files and folders were hidden because they still remained with read/write permissions, but nope... If the user profile is hidden with all files and folders also tagged to have hidden attribute, it breaks Firefox version 40.0.1

Figured I'd share this in case anyone else ever tries to hide their profile and data and gets in the same jam.

Here is the procedure to show hidden files/folders globally on the PC http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files#show-hidden-files=windows-7

Solve : Suddenly cannot access Yahoo mail w/Firefox, only with IE?

Answer»

I use FF 48.0.1 (that's what it says in "about"), with Win7Pro. Just lately when I try to access my att dot net email in FF, I get the following message: "We're SORRY. We cannot process your request at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience. For more information, please contact us." The "contact us" is a link to a page for att services and asks for phone # or zip code. NOTE, I can log in just fine to my account from IE. I tried copying and pasting the link from IE into a FF tab, but get the same results. The email account is not a straight "yahoo (dot) com" address, but rather through my ISP and is an "sbcglobal (dot) net" address.

Any ideas on how to fix this with FF? It's ANNOYING to have to use two browsers and I much prefer my FF.
Thanks in advance.
Do you have another computer that you can use that has FIREFOX to see if it works there.... you need to know if its your system or if its issue with your ISP supporting firefox and so if you got the same result from another computer then its likely the ISP is using legacy or non standard scripting etc. Or there is a bug with firefox and ISP which is less likely to be firefox's fault.DaveLembke: I'll try that, thanks. Just to be clear, I can use another computer to test, as long as I'm connecting through the same gateway/network (?) that the problem computer is using, right?yes I would do that first... then bring it to another network connection other than your own if you have the ability to do so too if the problem remains with alternate system to test withStep 2: laptop used with same connection had identical problem. I can access the sbc global mail through IE but not FF. I'll try a friend's ISP (not ATT-related) and see what happens there. Thanks for the feedback.
Regards,
sv7The browser settings for FireFox are listed at the sbc yahoo page...Step 3: Logged on to friend's wireless network with my laptop; first day accessed email no problem; third day I got the same message as at home. Came back home, today it works just fine in FF. {SMH} I don't know if this was a temporary glitch or what. I've been notified of a FF update for the home computer, so I guess I'll update it and see if I still have the same problem.

Patio--I'm not sure what page you mean--would you send me a link please?

Thanks everyone for your patience with me and this problem.Top right of the MAIN Mail page....down arrow/Help/Account settings
Well, I haven't tweaked anything, but it seems to have resolved itself. Go figure. Thanks again for your help.

Solve : IE - height of navigation and status bars?

Answer»

I have 2 laptops side by side running Windows 10. I have www.google.com in IE 11 (same versions) up on both machines. Both machines have a SR of 16:9 and the Windows text size is 9 (default). I'm only showing the ADDRESS and menu bars at the top and the status bar at the bottom of IE on both machines. In the IE viewing area, where URLs are shown and wwww.google.com is being shown, all text and images are exactly the same size on both machines. But the text, icons, and bar height of the IE address bar, the menu bar, and the status bar are different in size on the 2 machines? Can anyone explain this and how this can be adjusted? Thanks. craigtRight clik the bars...select use small icons...I think that 'using small icons' only applies to the task bar. The task bar text, icons, and line height are the same on both machines.Did you TRY using the mouse to resize these bars by highlighting the lower edge ? ?Hey Patio, I don't know how to do that. craigtWhen you have it placed proper at bottom edge just hold down mouse button and drag upwards...it'll be a up/down arrow...
It does not seem to work for me. I'm familiar with that 2 ENDED arrow. It does not come up when I drag the mouse over the bottom edge of the address bar, menu bar, or status bar. Does it do it for you?The system where those elements appear larger likely has the display set to a higher DPI. It should be a slider in the Display control panel. The DPI slider in the display area of the control panel is at 100% in both systems. Let me summarize what I'm seeing again from the bottom up.

task bar - text, icons, and line height same on both machines

status bar - text and line height different on the 2 machines

URL viewing area - text and icons same on both machines

menu bar - text and line height different on the 2 machines

address bar - text, icons, and line height different on the 2 machines

status bar using what program? You need to look at the settings of that program and compare the settings on both computers.

menu bar using what program?

address bar using what program?IE 11If the laptops aren't identical the display won't be identical...just sayin...I apologize, you did mention IE 11 in your first post.
I don't run Windows 10 so I can't tweak and see what might be different. (I do have two Acer netbooks that I was planning to play AROUND with and compare settings).
Have both laptops side by side and IE open in both. Go through each item comparing the two. Some setting or settings don't match.

So far I haven't found anything that lets you just increase the menu bar and status bar. If you change those through view, the inside web PAGE gets bigger or smaller but there is no change in the menu and status bar.

Solve : blocked website?

Answer»

A friend can't get on a website he uses regular he gets error MESSAGE saying this page unavailable or words to that effect.
His operating system is Win 7 and browser is internet explorer could any one please help in making this site available.
Any help would be much appreciated jhaddWhich site ? ?And it would probably be EASIER if your friend posted instead of you.Its a l but I think its something in internet explorerocal Wigan tv a site he subscribes to normally he just clicks on it and uses his password'
I think its a setting in internet explorer that's accidently been set to block the site.
Thanks again jhaddHas you or him looked to see if its black listed vs assuming its the problem with IE blocking it ?

Have you used a different computer on same internet connection to confirm the site is active and its definitely an issue with his computer vs internet connection issue ?I'm sorry I gave wrong INFORMATION its when he uses
google that he can't access the web site he as no problem with any other siteHello,
If he has ASSESSED the site without issue an all of a sudden he can't , have him reboot the router / modem by un-plugging it for a while then replug it back in.

Also clear the browser cache.

In most computer-based web browsers, to open menus used to clear your cache, cookies, and history, press Ctrl-Shift-Delete
Clear as mud...Ive just been round to this computer when I clicked in internet explorer it opens several websites instead of just the HOMEPAGE but won't open the particular site he wants to access'
I clicked on Google Chrome instead of internet explorer and the site opens up alright using Google chrome.
Thanks again for your help

Solve : Browser issue?

Answer»

I use MSN as my home page for instant news & log in to Hotmail......
http://www.msn.com/en-gb
However I now get a DIFFERENT version if I use firefox as opposed to IE. Also when I TRY to log in it tells me to get latest FF version, which I do, only to be told the same again next time I try to log in.

IE works PERFECT but I have ISSUES with Firefox & Opera. With firefox I am told I need an upgrade by outlook when I try to log in but when I try this I am told my version is up to date? Also I get a message that flashplayer has crashed. With Opera it is more serious as the home page ( msn uk ) looks very different & when I log in to outlook it doesn't open?
I am on Windows 7 my FF browser is 40.0.2. Opera is 12.17.
Would appreciate any thoughts.

Solve : About Chrome?

Answer»

I created an account on Jet.com two days ago, but didn't complete the sign-up.

I ALLOWED Chrome to save the password and email address I ASSOCIATED that account with.

Today, I created a new account, after having deleted the ONE from two days ago, and yet when I try to log-in to the new account, the saved password that I allowed Chrome to save, keeps popping up.

Is there a way I can delete only passwords that I choose to delete in Chrome Settings?

I'm not yet sure I want to delete all of them, HOWEVER, I can if I need to. Thanks. You can delete SPECIFIC passwords. The procedure can be found at https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95606?hl=en

Solve : "Edge" Took My "Chrome"?

Answer»

After upgrading(?) to WINDOWS 10, any link in an email opens in "Edge" instead of "Chrome" LIKE it used to. I used to depend on "Chrome's" Autofill feature to fill out shipping info, etc. Does "Edge" have an Autofill feature hidden where I haven't been able to find it? Can I uninstall "Edge" and revert back to "Chrome"? Any other ideas of how I can get "Autofill"?When you open Chrome, does it ask whether you WANT it to be your default browser? If so, then click OK/Yes to make it your default browser.

If that does not work, go to Control Panel, then to Default Programs, and set Chrome to be the default browser; I believe the screen has an option specifically for email links but I haven't actually confirmed this.

Oh, and I don't know whether you can remove Edge but I SUGGEST LEAVING Edge alone. As stated above, you just need to get the defaults set right.

Solve : Opera Versions 12.15 and 31.0.?

Answer»

I've been using Opera for years and have had no problems with it. I have two versions on my desktop 12.15 and 31.0. My main reasons for keeping and using version 12.15 are, it is customisable in that you can reposition you tab and address bars, I much prefer to have mine at the bottom as opposed to at the top. The second reason I still use it is that it has a good feed reader far better than most I've seen and tried.

Opera 31 is good to a point, but it no longer has an feed reader and worst of all there is no way to export your bookmarks, at least I haven't found a way to do it. I find it incredible that a browser has no way of exporting bookmarks. In version 12.15 my bookmarks run into the hundreds. If I have to reinstall Opera 12.15 having cleaned out my hard disc, which I do every six months or less when the need arises, I can import my saved bookmarks and feed list once I've reinstalled Opera. I cannot do the same with version 31, this means any bookmarks I've saved will be lost when I clear out my hard disc.

Incidentally all my software INSTALLATION and data files are on a PORTABLE disc drive, even these are backed up on DVDs. The only files on my internal hard drive are the OS and program files and ANYTHING else needed for running of the computer.

Does anyone know of a way to save Opera 31 bookmarks? Not sure of this exactly applies to 31, but it might still be true for Opera. I don't use opera to say whether it still applies or not, but towards the bottom of this site it shows how to back them up for opera. There is the option to export for HTML format or Opera format. I'd TRY the Opera format, although HTML format might be more universal between versions. http://www.howtogeek.com/136116/how-to-easily-back-up-and-migrate-your-browser-bookmarks/Dave the examples shown appertain to versions 12.15 and below. With version 31 there is no way to manage your bookmarks let alone save them. See Here...

And Here...Thanks to all of you, I found the bookmarks file AppData > Roaming > Opera Software > Opera Stable. Next time before I clear the hard drive I'll copy the folder to my software folder on the external drive. Hopefully this will solve the problem.

Solve : Right clicking on link on web page?

Answer»

When right clicking on a link in WEB page it returns in new tab with
} javascript:%20View('111') { what does this mean?Does this HAPPEN with all links or only with specific ones? What browser are you using? Can you mention a specific web page and link on the page where this happens? I use firefox 30 and this occurs when trying to right click on your individual mail at mail.k.st you can not right click and open in new tab, choice is not LISTED only copy link location is.Your mail app isn't setup properly then...
What do you use for EMAIL ? ?That LOOKS like your mail provider's website is using JavaScript to open the links rather than pointing them to a regular URL. The way they are doing it it pretty old fashioned and bad practice by modern standards but there is really no way to change it on your end.

Solve : Removal of 'Pop up Blocker strip' IE?

Answer»

Hi guys,
I added some java to my home website pages, just the script for a 'back button' and some for a website search.
Now everytime I open one of those pages the pop-up blocker STRIP appears. It goes if I hit the x but still re-appears on all other pages.
I used 'Tools - turn off pop up blocker' but it doesn't seem to work.

No rush with this one, it's only driving me mad as a hatter! [smiley=smiley.gif]

I'm running XP home, using IE and I do appreciate help, COMMENTS and tips.
Thanks
Please SPECIFY your site addres for trying to figure out what's happeningHi XtaszY,
This is a prob with IE, the pop up blocker bar appears when I open pages (with java) that are stored on my HD as well as those hosted on a server.

Removing Java stops the bar appearing, but I need to use the Java.

My previous PC, ALSO running XP and IE, did not have this problem, but I don't know what its settings were.

Thanks for your interest.

(sorry if this REPLY appears twice, seems my first attempt didn't show).

Solve : reinstall IE6 browser? Error message in here...?

Answer»

I'm running IE6 but my Ooutlook Express mail program continues to use OE5. I thought "Windows update", downloaded from Microsoft home page would update the OE program.... It didn't.
I tried re-downloading the 'ie6setup' file from the MS wesite, but now I get a dialog box when trying to install the new file.
Quote

A previous installation has pending work requiring a reboot. You need to restart your computer to complete that instalation before running IEsetup. Set-up will now close.
When I try to install programs in the 'start>settings>CONTROL panel>add remove programs', there is only one program listed; "Adobe Acrobat 5.0".
I'm running a Systemax desktop PC, Athlon processor {AZ11 mainboard}, Windows ME OS.
I've tried restarting several times but get the same dialog box.
Also recent BIOS, OS problems have occured which I think I have 90%solved {at least it runs efficiently now as opposed to repeated failed start-up's.}.
I can post more info if needed. I'm no PC wizard, only a car mechanic, so please keep the replies fairly elementary if possible.
Thank's for any help!!!

Alan <>< Since you have an older OS, and IE7 is the latest version of IE, I think you're going to have problems with this. End of support for Windows 98, Windows Me, and Windows XP Service Pack 1. An email client CALLED Thunderbird is often recommended here in the forum. You can get it here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/

Is this what you tried to download: Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1? If not, you might try downloading it from there.Quote

Thank's Alan, but as I mentioned, I've had several problems getting the BIOS re-flashed, re-installing most of my software {including IE6] and since all the bugs are not yet re-solved, I haven't created a restore point to select. All restore points I selected before this issue were lost in there somewhere
I do have 2 'system check points' in the 'System Restore' menu, but attempts to restore to those dates yeild a dialog box after re-start = "system restore was unsuccessful".
I have software to recover files from the application file - "C\restoration" where I have recovered files deleted from recycle bin. I may be able to use that program to recover those restore points. I haven't tried that yet. Thanks for the idea!!!

lectrocrew you can not uninstal IE because it is a part of WinXP, for uninstalling try to use WinXP Manager v4.95.2 or other program like this. Practicaly this program does not uninstal IE, he only modify some reg key to allow new installation of IE6

If you follow the link above, you FIND a .rar file which contains WinXp manager Trial Version and dotnetfx. This last program is absolut necessary to install before installing WinXP manager. After you finish the instalation of WinXp Manager, run it and you will find in the bottom of left menu a part dedicated for IE which have options for uninstalling or repair IE.

Solve : How to make IE open OE links in new tab??

Answer»

Here's a difference between Firefox and IE that I can't figure out. Let's assume I'm STARTING with no browser window open. With Firefox, if I click on a link in an email NOTIFICATION from the forum, that link OPENS a Firefox window. If I click on a link in another email notification from the forum, that link opens in another tab in the same Firefox window.

With IE, the first link opens a new IE window, same as Firefox. But, if I click on a link in another email notification from the forum, that link opens in the same tab in the same IE window. How do I make IE open subsequent links in new tabs?
Open IE and click on Tools/Internet Options/Advanced tab

Scroll down a ¼ of the way and Un-check where it SAYS

[]REUSE windows for launching shortcuts

Click on [OK] at the bottom.

Solve : Free unlimited photo storage and sharing..?

Answer»

Hi...

Is there any website where I can get free unlimited online photo storage and sharing...I had my account in Flickr, but unfortunately I can upload and share only 200 photos over there...I have nearly more 1000 photos as of now, taken from my mobile...

I want to share my photos to all my FRIENDS...Have U come across or use any free unlimited photo storage and sharing, pls suggest me...

I am worried...I thought I would upload all my photos today and share it... but . Pls help me in this regard...Free and unlimited do not usually go together. You may need to spread those photos among multiple photo hosting services in order to get them all on the web without paying for a PREMIUM account. Otherwise, you'll have to go to a premium, i.e. not free, account. Photobucket.com's free account ALLOWS up to 1GB of disk space. Their premium account ($25/yr or $9/3 mo.) allows 5GB of disk space.

Other photo sharing SITES that I know of are www.shutterfly.com and www.snapfish.com. Keep in mind that free accounts with any of these services usually limits the size of the photos you can upload. To avoid such a limitation, you would need to get a premium account.

Solve : Login Loop?

Answer»

I've got a strange problem that I have not been able to figure out yet. I work at a business where we have perhaps fifteen computers. There are two websites we use frequently that have just recently begun to loop during LOGIN. We ENTER our regular normal login information and are immediately taken back to the login page instead of being directed to the site.

The odd thing is that one of our computers can access both sites with no problem. I've tried fiddling with the settings on my computer and a couple of the others, to no avail. The only thing I can figure is that the one computer that is logging in is not set to do the automatic updates. Is it possible that a recent update did something to our cookies or something?

It's most frustrating because to process things on these two sites we have to go to the one person's computer and interrupt her work while we do what needs doing.

One of the sites directs us back to the login with the addition of "index.cfm" at the end of the regular address. We use Cold Fusion on our own website, but I can't imagine how that would affect login on another site.

Any ideas?

:-?Clear cache; delete cookies; close rogue browsers; restart. ENSURE those browsers are set to accept cookies.

Does that help?

If not, have you tried Firefox? That was the first thing I tried. I have thought about using Firefox, but all our computers here are set for Explorer. I'll try FF and let you know if that works.

If it works with that and I'm the only one using it, I'll be stuck PROCESSING everything for those websites! Can you give a link to the website(s)? I'd like to check what authentication strategy they use.The first one is www.b2bbushnell.com
The second one is https://financial.wellsfargo.com/retailservices/login.jsp

Actually I realised that was a daft question of mine; I won't be able to log in, therefore I won't be able to check how it works.

The most likely problem is cookie-related, as you rightly suggest. Have you deployed IE7 across your network yet? If not, you need to think about doing that anyway. In the meantime, this issue may be related to internet security zones. Try resetting them?I will work on that first thing tomorrow. Time to go home for the day...\0/Reset security zones

3. Control Panel

1. Start
2. Settings
3. Control Panel
4. Internet Options
5. General tab
6. Remove cookies, temporary files and history

Kudos to the CH fella's for keeping it safe. Thanks for the suggestions. I did the above on the first day with no results. I tried different settings in the advanced tab, also to no avail.

The strange thing to me is that it is happening on all computers except for one, which has automatic updates disabled.

I'm going to try upgrading to Explorer 7 this morning.I have upgraded to Explorer7, rebooted the computer, set all settings back to default, cleared cookies, etc...still am not able to log in.

I keep thinking it has something to do with our system somehow. I logged in at home with no problem and my computer does the automatic updates there.

We use Norton Anti-Virus on all our computers. As far as I know, every computer has the same basic configuration. Just a thought...you might check the NAV settings on the computer that does work, then compare them to some that don't

Solve : organizing favorites?

is there any tool or function or option part of IE (I'm currently using 6.0) or that I can get (download MAYBE) that can help organize favorites?
SPECIFICALLY, is there a way I can, automatically, go through the favorites and have them checked if they are still valid/live sites?
Also, is there any display options I can set so I see the last TIME I accessed a particular site/link?

There's an extension for it. I saw it not too long ago, but I forgot the name.Does it bug anyone that the favourites list and the start menu don't automatically sort alphabetically? Here's a useful hack, but only for those comfortable in the registry.

Start-->Run-->Regedit

HKCU-->Software-->Microsoft-->Windows-->CurrentVersion-->Explorer-->MenuOrder.

Delete the sub keys.

Right-click MenuOrder-->Permissions.

Click Advanced. Uncheck the "INHERIT..." box. Click OK; Copy.

Uncheck the "Full Control" box for you and any groups you're in. Click OK.

There you go: permanently sorted menus. Why on earth should it be that complicated though?!

The source code for IE is not public. Only those with a good amount of skill can crack it.

Why do you think this is so unbelievable? It fits perfectly.
Well, I'd say that vulnerability is, for all practical puposes, insignificant to most IE users. Here's a quote from the article:

"But Thomas Kristensen, Secunia's chief technology officer, TOLD CSOnline.com that "it is hard to exploit the flaw because it requires the attacker to lure someone to a malicious site, and for the attacker to know what other secure site the visitor might simultaneously have open".

Ok im trying to download a certain program (VLC Media Player) and ive downloaded it from numerous sites to see if it was a problem with that particular site's download's but it still wont work. I can download the program fine but then when I TRY to install it an error message come's up saying:

The installer you are trying to use is corrup or incomplete.
This could be the result of a damaged disk, a failed download or a virus.
You may want to contact the author of this installer to obtain a new copy.
It may be possible to skip this step by using the /NCRC command line SWITCH(NOT RECOMMENDED).

Now this message also come's up when im trying to install other basic or random program's like Window's Media Player, RealPlayer or AIM. Why cant I install any of these??? Solve : IE 7- home page?

I recently installed IE 7 thinking it would offer more security, and FIND it is now a problem. I had set my HOME page for yahoo mail sign in page. My folks at home use yahoo mail and feel it easier to just open the explorer and have the yahoo sign in page ready. Now after, installing this Internet explorer 7 it keeps taking me to the following http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=54834 then it changes to the following http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx page of msn and nothing is displayed except a blue screen. EVEN after setting 'yahoomail' as the 'home page'. Any one with suggestions to solve this problem.

I think, if you do some GOOGLE searching, you'll find this issue is not directly related to IE7. It can also affect previous versions of IE. Here's evidence of this: IE6 always goes to "runonce" screen. It mentions Adwatch. Are you using that?
