Hello.

I have a really big problem with my IE. My computer is a compaq presario pentium 4 and I have WINDOWS XP.(I don't know if this information would help)

I'm not that good in computers so came here. I am now using firefox because every time I open IE, 2 seconds later in closes. I deleted it and instaled it another time. But it didn't HELPED. i was getting a problem in outlook last 2 DAYS. the MAIL is not receiving. i PUT that account in another COMPUTER. is working. so i FORMAT xp and newly instaled. but the same problem came. i put that account in microsoft outlook 2003, in same computer , now working. but i want use outlook express. what to do? My Toshiba Laptop did not come with FLASH Player and I go to download it and it's a 66MB file that takes 18 hrs to download! What can i do about this? 66MB for flash player? NO WAY! I thought with a computer only 6 MONTHS old I would not be here for the second time.
anyway, I recentlly uninstalled A.O.L. " with a LOT of flack from wife" and now IE is
slower than ever after a few pages open. I've CLEARED the cashe,temp files and cookies to
no avail, The temp files are set at 50 mb,which is the default. I checked with the I.S.P.
and everythink is at speed.

i just resently quit the porn ADDICTION and i didnt really trust myself so i went to the content protection in the Internet options so i can block the "bad sites" from myself i put the sliders where i wanted them and then i CREATED the password but i typed in random letters and enabled it. but wut i didnt realize till i got on this computer is that i needed to click the box that says "Users can see sites w/o a rating" so now everytime i try to go on ANY website a box pops up saying i need to type in that password and so now i cant view the web at all so my question is.... Is there a way to bypass the password or at least get onto the content options so i can click that box?

I agree with GX1-Man. If you can't solve the problem any other way, save, wipe and reinstall. It's a drag but sometimes there's just no getting around it.

Alright awsome i got the code now....another problem when i put in the cd it boots and gose to the format screen when it checks my system a message comes up saying "the file nvatabus.sys cannot be found press any key to continue" but when i press any key it says the setup failed and it gose back to windows....What is that file?? why am i missing it?? and how do i get it back so i can refresh my computer??"nvatabus.sys" is related to NVIDIA video drivers. When you do the reinstall do you choose to format the drive and do a fresh install or a repair?

I suggest that if you've backed up your data, then do a format and install.

Is the cd you're using a read XP cd or a copy?

and yes it is the real xp cd that my computer came withThis does not sound right at all. How did you reload Windows? Go through the part about formatting the drive.....ok i put in the cd i choose to install windows xp then it asks me to agree, i do, then i have to put in the product key, then another screen comes up with the advanced options and accessablility options, i click next, then it copys the installation files, then it restarts the computer, then the setup comes up, it checks a couple files, then that error message comes up then it quits. thats just about all of itI agree with GX1_Man, that doesn't sound right at all. When you do a format (fresh install) of Windows it should DO a format then install Windows. Are you abolutely SURE you're doing a format? It kinda sounds like you're doing a repair and not a format.

After formatting my COMPUTER, I deleted all of the desktop and start menu shortcuts for IE because I never use it.
I assumed there would be a shortcut/executable in the IE folder should I ever need it. But there is none.
I ran a file search and it only came up with .ico files and a shortcut to IE "with no add-ons", which is pretty useless.

I'm running English WINDOWS XP Home SP2 and my IE setup file says IE7, but the version number says 6.2.29.0

I also tried to uninstall it (add/remove) so that I could reinstall it, but it freezes in the process. It even screwed up my norton, so I had to do a system restore.

Can anyone help me to create a shortcut or find someway I can use IE?
First set Windows Explorer to display hidden folders and files then try searching your computer for iexplore.exe.
If you find the file then double click on it and if ity opens you should be able to set IE to display a desktop icon.
(A lot of ifs & shoulds in there because I'm working from IE6.)Cheers for the reply.

dl65 Thanks. Actually, the Internet Explorer folder was the first place I looked. Wasn't there.
Then I remembered Fed's post and revealed the hidden files, and there it was.
I don't know why it's hidden.

Anyway, now I can get my BROWSER open, but have a new problem.
Since I tried uninstalling (unsuccessfully) my control panel -> internet options doesn't open.
Also, there is no TOP bar where "file, edit, view, go" etc should be. So I can't adjust anything!

Btw, since I use firefox and never IE (i just need it for something at the moment)
does the internet options folder only apply to IE, and the options folder in the firefox menu is only for firefox, or are they connected?

The Always ASK Before Opening This Type Of File CHECKBOX has been uncheck, now everytime i try to download something it is going straight to the TEMPORARY folder. How can i RESTORE Processing Options For Downloaded Files.

I am using internet explorer 6 by the way.Windows XP:

The usual set up is for Internet Explorer to use Outlook or Outlook Express as the default email program.

This is set in IE>Tools>Internet Options>Programs...

What exactly are you trying to achieve?

Maybe....a picture....would work bettter......

Mozilla= not Microsoft

There may be options in MSN, but maybe not.

There doesn't seem to be an accelerator there, I'll have an indepth look later today.
BTW, download & run Ewido.
Check IE>Tools>INTERNET Options>Advanced>Multimedia>Smart Image Dithering...Tick it.

Edit: POST OVERLAP DL Hi, for your information, I fixed it and I think it had noting to with an accelerator, I opened the registery editor and I changed this: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\ UseHR and changed the value to 0. and It fixed it. It's a problem with dell Inspiron computer so. now you'll know. Thanks anywayOUCH !!

I am running XP and internet EXPLORER. When surfing online, some links will not work, bringing up the international NO sign and audile TONE. Other sites I can click the INTERNAL links, but the original page closes, so I cannot 'page back' or use the brower back button. At some point this was working properly, it seemed to stop working about a month AGO without any other symptoms. I have tried re-setting privacy options and exiting pop up blockers, but no SUCCESS. Any ideas?Are all your Windows updates 'up-to date'? / Do you have SP2 installed? / Have you tried going back to a restore point (System Restore) to a date prior to the problem occuring? / Have you tried a repair on IE? / Do you have a firewall installed and is it configured properly?

I had problems trying to access my Yahoo email this AFTERNOON. This message kept coming up "Expired Session" and asked me to type in my password again. After I did it, I was still unable to access my email. I saw that a new pop up appeared "Intranet" Could anyone explain to me what is happening? How do i GET BACK to my Yahoo email. I don't claim to be a computer guru but I have built several computers & this is a first. I have a friends older computer I am trying to upgrade. Pentium 11, 400 Mhz, 20 Gig H.D. 320 MB. Ram. I reformatted it several times. I did full & COMPLETE installs everytime not upgrades. I have put ME, 2000 Pro, XP Pro & everyone of them does the same thing. They all get variations of this error message. Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

I tried running sfc /scannow & it said cross linked on allocation .sys,.dll,.exe, etc & lots of things kept running across the screen & it uses your original installation disk I suppose to retrieve & repair it but it does not fix the problem. While running this the computer shuts down & reboots & says One Of Your Disks Needs To Be Checked For Consistency then reboots ? ANY IDEAS ? It's making me crazy. I don't have sound or video drivers for this computer & for some reason XP does not even acknowledge there is a sound card in it but win 2000 does. With XP no speaker icon or sound Win 2000 it does ? I thought about putting Win 98SE in it but I need sound & video drivers & I don't know how or where to get them. I looked a little online & the so called driver sites just made you look at ads & then downloaded stuff that did not work or redirected you to porn sites.

I just had cable hi-speed installed, suddenly my web PAGES disappeared. When I click my IE icon the default web page (MSN, changed it but still not working) comes up but then dissappears before it fully opens. TO access internet I have to open windows explorer then type in web address. But I TRY clicking a link to open another web page it SAYS exec error and program must be restarted, and it creates. I tried doing search for error log on my computer but did not know which error log (cos there were many related to this issue so that i can put it up for to get help pls advise anyone

My brother works for a major cable provider here in coastal North Carolina. They ALSO provide high speed broad band service. They had over 5,000 calls like this last Thursday and over 2,000 on Friday. I work for the local community college here in the IT department. We have not seen this problem yet but my boss was at his home Thursday night when his browser did the same thing. He is with a different provider. I searched everywhere and can't find anything on this. My brothers company said it is not their problem (don't blame them there) so they don't care what happened and have no plans to investigate it. I told my boss to use FireFox but am curious as to why this is happening. Any thoughts. Obviously, I cannot supply any specs but with almost 8,000 computers affected, I assume specs are not that important. Looks like this is an across the board thing. I know my boss has the latest and greatest in hardware as well as virus, adware, spyware, malware protection. Any thoughts?

Im USING IE 6.01, and when i try to click on a link within a page (hyperlink), a small window that looks like another IE page window comes up, but never finishes loading. I effectively can't hyperlink anywhere, but if i type the URL in the address BAR i can get to the page. This has got to be something simple....There could be a number of causes. In hotmail i can enter into the main page but once put

You don't say when the problem started. Did it ever work RIGHT? Have you tried repairing IE?...uninstalling/reintalling Opera?

something strange HAPPENED this morning. I just installed C Cleaner and after that I realized there were changes in my settings. FireZone always initializes each time I try to run a program and I realize that there is a "backward arrow" beside each icon on my desktop. What is happening? What should I do to RESTORE to my original settings i.e to remove the backward arrow beside each icon on my desktop? ThanskThe backward arrow on your desktop indicates a shortcut?

I am not sure what "Firezone" is.that is the Zone lab program (firewall) that I have installed on my laptop.I thought they called that "ZoneAlarm". Did they change its name ?

PERHAPS your license has been cancelled out and you can no longer make use of its advanced functions.

The free version of ZoneAlarm that I am acustomed with doesn't add any backward arrows and NEITHER has it interfered with programs unless they wanted to connect with the INTERNET..

on sites such as youtube.com and google video, i am able to watch the videos, but there are no audio sounds available. same with sites like myspace, can't hear any music coming from ppl's pages or from juno.co.uk, i can't hear samples of artist's music. if the site is windows media player based, i can hear the music. no problems hearing my own mp3s. i've tried on both IE and firefox

is it a macromedia flash problem? i've been troubleshooting through that, installing, uninstalling, reinstalling, etc.

or is my system missing something that i don't know about....? this could be the case as i had to get a whole new motherboard done. old drive was SAVED, but i'm not sure if everything was installed back correctly.

It's probably a CODEC problem. Click on the software link in my SIGNATURE. Scroll down that page to the multimedia section. Install "The-Codecs".unfortunately, that didn't work..

Then DOWNLOAD & run memtest86, you will need a blank floppy.Our computers at school do that a lot. Ironically they're Dells! It could be faulty memory like Fed said. Or it could be a faulty hard drive using the virtual memory. Do you leave this computer on a lot? How long have you had it? I recommend running check disk. I'm running WinXP Pro SP1. I don't use IE6 itself, but I use Maxthon which relies on the IE6 platform. I DISCOVERED something seriously wrong today while making an online purchase. I've reset my firewall to 'tight' security until this is resolved.

IE6 Autocomplete 'Forms' has stored highly sensitive information which it should not have. The problem comes when I try to remove the information (Tools > INTERNET Options > Content > Auto Complete > Clear Forms), the browser won't respond and must be closed from the Task Manager. The only things I've tried are to reboot, and to use IE6 instead of Maxthon to perform the task of purging the form information. The only other idea which I've yet to try is to boot to Safe Mode and try the procedure from there.

I've looked at the Microsoft KB articles on Autocomplete in IE6, but none offer any helpful information.

I'm guessing the information is stored in a subdirectory of Documents and Settings. I've browsed through some of the folders labelled Microsoft or Internet Explorer, but I don't know which file NEEDS erased. And I don't want to erase the wrong file and find that I am having problems launching my browser afterwards.

I'm hoping somebody can provide a manual solution to the problem, as I expect that the problem of why IE6 won't perform this task is much more complicated than simply removing the sensitive information manually.

Right. I just set up a new host for my web site. I POINTED the domain name to the host and I up loaded Joomla to the host.

when i TYPE in the domain name on the computers at work and my mates the Joomla install page come up. as it shoud.

but when I get home to my pc its the old web site still!

I have cleared out all the temp internet files, re-freshed, and still nothing.

Any help would be fantastic.

Now it gets more strange....

This morning I typed in my web site address and the Joomla install page was there, I just got in from work and its gone back to my old web site.

Just a tip for the unaware. If you EXPORT the F'Fox BOOKMARKS to removable storage for backup and the storage media does not have enough free space for the file, no error message will be displayed and it will seem that the Export has been successful although just an empty file will have been created.

Although you'd have to have very low free space, or many many bookmarks, to encounter this problem.I use a little gem called MOZBack...it will backup not only bookmarks but ENTIRE profiles including extensions and themes for both FireFox and ThunderBird...and it will tell you if the device does not have enough space to CREATE the backup...Another good one is FEBE, and the perfect compliment to it, CLEO.This is CLEO.......

Hope someone out there has the answer to my annoying problem.

When I open an internet page at the moment, the page is windowed, ie: Not MAXIMIZED to the ENTIRE SCREEN, I can move the page around the desktop But there is no buttons in the top right of the screen to minimize or MAXIMIZE, the latter being what I want.

I cant grab the edge of the page and stretch the screen either.

I am pulling my hair out!

I am receiving an error whenever I close an Internet Explorer window. I can operate fine as long as I don't close a window. The error seems GENERIC in nature but at times has referenced memory-type errors--"memory could not be read", etc. This problem seems to have started after I downloaded a Google toolbar. I have tried removing the Google toolbar and uninstalling and re-installing IE 7. No luck.

I am running Windows XP Media Center with SP 2 and IE 7. I am also running Norton Internet Security and bSafe web surfing software.

Have you tried using System Restore go back to a point before installing Google?

Is that all of the protection you have?
Download CCleaner (without Yahoo! toolbar) and reference this guide.
Download/install AVG Free, update it, and scan in Safe Mode.

Although I'm not quite convinced that this is an infection, a HijackThis log can help us see if you still have bits and pieces of the Google toolbar on your computer. You never know, getting rid of it all might help.Solution A: run chkdsk/f in the cmd.exe utility off of run in the start menu. When it SAYS"Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. would you like to schedule this volume to run next time the system RESTARTS?" Type y and press enter.

Solution B: delete all of your anti spyware programs except for one.

Solution C: start>control panel>PERFORMANCE and maintnence> run all the programs for "freeing up space on your hard disk" one by one

Solution D: start>control panel>add/remove programs> delete the google toolbar if it is still there

Solution E: internet options>programs>manage add-ons>delete everything with "activeX control" in the "type" column.

Solution F: go to start>run>type in:"c:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe" and it might take you to a point before you installed google.

Solution G (ONLY TO BE USED AS A LAST RESORT): get a new C drive

Okay guys, I have tried a lot of things such as delete all cookies, browsing history, saved passwords, caches, and whatever ELSE. If it still doesn't work, try uninstalling Firefox totally and installing it again, be aware that this will clear all your settings etc from it.
To do this, first uninstall Firefox via the usual Add/Remove programs route.
Then use CCleaner to clean your system, also use the Issues tab and remove anything related to Mozilla or Firefox.
Then, search for all FOLDERS named Firefox, Mozilla or Mozilla Firefox, and remove them.
Important - if you use any other Mozilla software, only remove ones related to Firefox.
Then reinstall Firefox.

Everytime I try to download anything, I get "Your current Security Settings do not ALLOW this file to be downloaded". I have went to Internet Options and set everything to the lowest settings and still have the same problem. Even turned off firewall for a time and still have the same problems.

After I reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled XP and my other programs I FOUND that IE and Firefox windows scroll 3 lines at a TIME which resembles a ripple effect RATHER than a sheet of PAPER moving up and down. Sc rolling is extremely slow with the cursor on the up and down arrows. Can you help me?You want it to scroll less lines at a time?
Go to Control Panel, then Mouse.
Then choose Wheel, and choose the amount of lines you want to scroll from there.

From some days IE 7 is giving problem with my system.

Its not able to open any page, a popup occurs saying unable to open.

Neither can i close the IE window, Task Manager is the only option.

Checked for all viruses and spywares.

There were a few problems with the earlier versions...you could try a reinstall.That's what i did.

It was MAY be some 7 days back. Did you uninstall and reinstall or just install over the top ? ?Unistall, restart, Install. FireFox...or Opera. There are alternatives Surviving because of those only

But there are some sites which work on IE only.

That's why i needed it to work. The only one i can think of is for Windows Updates...and even then you could revert back to IE6.

Personally i refuse to use anything that doesn't work properly...IE7 has fit into that CATEGORY for me and i've made 3 attempts. I'm not MS bashing but it was released before it was ready and judging by the latest update it STILL isn't.

3 days ago my intenet browser stopped connecting to any website. I was running IE7 which I uninstalled and went back to IE6, STILL no luck. I downloade FireFox from another computer and installed and that did not work either. I am using Charter CABLE internet through wireless router. I am able to send and receive email so I know I have an active internet connection.
Just before the problem occurred, I received a barage of popups. I RAN AdAware with updated definitions and SpyBot Search & Destroy but with outdated definitions. With the timing of the popup barage, my guess is this problem is some sort of Spyware, malware or virus.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated as I am pulling my hair out over this one and don't have much to spare.

Here's what I would suggest, reboot into safe mode ........ repeatedly tap the f8 key at the restart until you are offered the various methods of starting...... then select safe mode......... once safe mode loads, run your anti virus ........ when it's finished , run your spybot as well.

let us know if that turns up anything .

Windows will not start in safe mode. The process will start but hangs up and I receive the message... Sorry for the inconvenience but Windows was unable to start. This may be caused by a hardware or software change that was made.... Not an exact quote but that is the gist of it. I have made multiple attempts with the same results. I did download PC Tools AntiVirus from another computer and an installed on the problem computer. 3 items were found. I don't have the log with me to show what was found. The found items were removed/quarantined. I also ran Ad Aware and Spybot S&D again (multiple times) Ad Aware found 8 critical items that were not there last time I ran it. These were removed and when I ran it again nothing more was found. I attempted to start in safe mode again after this but had the same results.
