Solve : Secure Sites Issue?

Answer»

I have an employee at my organization who is TRYING to add a site to her trusted sites list in IE. The site is https://osos.labor.state.ny.us/

When she tries to add it, an error comes up which says sites must have https:// prefix. But, this site has that prefix. I tried unchecking the "Require server verification (https: ) for all sites in this zone" box but she still gets the same error. What can I do to get this site added to the list?
I'm really not all that sure, but maybe if you tried OPENING it in a DIFFERENT kind of INTERNET browser. For example, if she is on internet explorer, try AOL explorer.

Solve : Error mesege while Opening" Orkut"?

Answer»

Hi,
When i am Opening orkut I am gettng following Error Mesege

"Orkut is banned you fool, The Administrator didn't write this program guess who did?"
Muhahaha
(alo attached screen shot)
OS-Windows Xp Proffessiopnal , IE-6.0 ,

Regards,
Sneha

[Saving disk space - old attachment deleted by admin]i suggest u run AVG after u start ur computer and allow it to scan the entire HARDDISC...
delete the viruses u get after u scan... and then open orkut(this procedure may or may not work, but give it a try)....Who else has access to your machine ? ?

Where did this Orkut program come from ? ?

What programs do you have for protection ? ?hi ,
i got the solution as follows.

1. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL and go to the processes tab
2. Look for svchost.exe under the image name. There will be many but look for the ones which have your username under the username
3. Press DEL to kill these files. It will give you a warning, Press Yes
4. Repeat for more svchost.exe files with your username and repeat. Do not kill svchost.exe with system, local SERVICE or NETWORK service!
5. Now open My Computer
6. In the address bar, type C:\heap41a and press enter. It is a hidden folder, and is not visible by default.
7. Delete all the files here
8. Now go to Start --> Run and type Regedit
9. Go to the menu Edit --> Find
10. Type "heap41a" here and press enter. You will get something like this "[winlogon] C:\heap41a\svchost.exe C:\heap(some NUMBER)\std.txt"
11. Select that and Press DEL. It will ask "Are you sure you wanna delete this value", click Yes
12. Now close the REGISTRY editor.
Now the virus is gone. But be sure to delete the autorun.inf file and any folder whose name ends with .exe in the pen drive.

UPDATE
It seems that they have named this malware as w32.USBWorm and according my friend, Avast is able to detect and remove it. I hope the other antivirus software will also be able to remove it soon.

Sneha..

Solve : Please help me solve this crime?

Answer»

I run winxp, internet explorer 6.0
Every time i put a letter into the address bar, a bunch of sites come up from the drop-down list.
Regardless of how many times i delete history, temp int FILES, spy-ware, ad-ware, virus scans, nothing fixes this problem.
Somewhere on my computer is a folder hidden (even though i already search with hidden folders shown) that contains all these url files, and i cannot find it. It's a crime against privacy and i want them removed, but cannot.
I've tried programs to delete all history and all, but i'm not even interested in that, just those webpages that i logged onto 3 years ago and still pop up, with not apparent source!
It's really not that important, my computer runs fine with it (i think...) but it's just really really PISSING me off....

thanks for your patience and help.To clear the saved sites from the address bar TRY the following:
Select Tools from the menu bar and click 'Internet Options'.
Select the 'Content' tab and press 'Autocomplete...'
Press 'Clear Forms'.
If you want to stop IE from saving addresses, remove the check mark from the box next to 'Web addresses'.

Don't ask me why you need to clear the forms in Autocomplete but this has been known to work. Thanks for the help.
I did what you said, and the drop-down list stopped popping up. So I feel I'm HALFWAY there, since yes--it doesn't show up anymore in the address bar -- but all the files and urls are still on my computer somewhere, i haven't deleted them.
This is probably the strangest problem i EVER encountered, not being able to locate a batch of files anywhere on my computer.
When you tell IE to clear the URLs, it should delete them completely.

But if you want to make sure, you can check it manually. Give this article a read:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=157729

Or you could use CCleaner. This will delete all your browsing history completely. (Install it without the Yahoo bar).
We also have a guide on the forum on how to set it up.
Configuring CCleanerthanks for all the help. I was told a little while ago to try ipurge and that totally did the trick. it managed to erase all those urls that were hidden somewhere on my comp and they don't show up anymore.
thanks again for your time!

Solve : What is the best internet browser for Vista??

Answer»

Hey, I was wondering what the best I.B there is for Vista?MOZILLA Firefox with a few add-ons and Macfox Graphite theme is the best interent browser hands down!Personally, I choose Firefox, because I like the way it handles a lot better than IE.
I find it's FASTER to start, faster when browsing, faster even when downloading files.
Plus it's a lot more customizable.
You might as well give it a try, it's free and you have nothing to lose.Quote from: Calum on July 15, 2007, 03:43:39 AM

I seem to be the only one who has always experienced the contrary.

Still a good browser, though.Quote from: Calum on July 15, 2007, 03:43:39 AM

It allows you to stop, come back later, and re-start.

Hey, I was wondering what the best I.B there is for Vista?
I'm believe some or all of the previous respondents are referring to their experience with Windows XP, not Vista, but I also believe that's irrelevant. The latest version of IE is 7, whether you're using Windows XP or Vista. Likewise, the version of Firefox is probably the same. I am referring to XP because I've only used Vista briefly.
Firefox 2.0.0.4 and IE7 are the same for each OS, the only difference is of course the OS as far as I am aware.
I don't believe there would be much of a difference between using each browser on XP compared to Vista, so I think all these opinions are still valid.
Quote
Can't say for sure about this. I prefer Free Download Manager.
You recommended that to me before, I did use it for a while. But I didn't like the way it worked and looked, so I just went back to using Firefox for normal downloads, uTorrent for large ones, and DownThemAll for getting lots of things off one site or page.
Here's an example of my IE7 compared to Firefox downloading the same file. Firefox, max speed: 280kb/sec. IE7, max speed: 100kb/sec.
Firefox = over twice as fast, for me at least.I think the Download Statusbar (Firefox extension) is very good. Instead of opening another window with all your downloads, its in the bar just above the windows tool bar below.Although it's a bit irrelevant, here's another positive vote for Free Download Manager. It's a must-have for anyone on a slow connection.

FDM will let you stop a large download, come back to TOMORROW and re-start it. I don't think Firefox's built in download manager will do that. I think you can only pause a download for as long as Firefox is loaded. Correct me on that if I'm wrong.
This feature is probably what CBMatt was getting at with his comment about slower connections.

Agreed that it sure does look different, especially compared to Firefox's plain and simple built in download manager. Like a lot of programs, they complicate things with a ton of options. Once I got used to it, I can ignore all the stuff I don't need.

You are correct. When you load Firefox again the download is still listed, if Firefox has been told to remember downloads, but as failed rather than paused.. You then have to restart it.

I guess I would have got used to it, but it was just simpler for me to GO on the way I did before.

Agreed, it is interesting, and odd.
I personally have no interest in why this is so, I use IE only for Windows UPDATE and to test things occasionally, like this download speed. Other than that, the IE Tab extension works fine for me. I think I can use Windows Update from IE tab as well but I find Firefox slows down when I am opening IE tabs within it, so I tend to avoid it.ive used both IE7 and firefox in both my mom and friend have it. I'm a big fan of firefox and for me and every computer i've put it on the users say its better then IE and on vista it works nice.I wont use anything other then firefox. With addons like adblocker, weather, gmail notifer, grease monkey, and lynx internet radio, and all the other crap I have installed I just can't go back to IE.Hmm.... Another IE vs FF thread.

Solve : internet history?

Answer»

is it possible for your internet history to show web addresses that you did not go into? a friend has some web addresses he says he did not go into (not the kind of sites he would visit - if you know what i mean) showing on his internet history. Someone ELSE told him he could have a virus putting those sites on his COMPUTER. Is that possible? i don't know if he has virus protection or spyware protection, but I have advised him to get both.

ThanksYes a virus could do that and ADVISING him to get anti-virus and anti spyware was a very good idea.
I have to say though, I personally think the chance is HIGHER that someone actually did visit those sites. I'm not accusing your friend but just suggesting that he looks into who has access to his computer. If he indeed have no protection, someone could even have created a BACKDOOR on his computer and used it view said sites.I'd advise him to get Ccleaner Slim and use it after every online session. Thanks so much! I will advise him to both suggestions. I was not sure who to ask, and this helps more than you know.

Solve : Need AOL transferred from old computer to new computer?

Answer»

I purchased a new hp lap top from a friend. I need to know how to get the AOL dialup from the old one to the new one. I cannot find the original CD. Please advise.

It would be much, much easier to simply get a new CD. They're freely DISTRIBUTED in magazines and retail stores all over the country. Or you could even just download the SOFTWARE. You might also want to create a backup of your C:\Program Files\American Online x.0\backup FOLDER, which should contain your e-mail.

Solve : IE vs Firefox; which is better in XP??

Answer»

I agree internet ex isnt very good at all , Firefox is so MUCH faster than IE sorry but it is lol , i dont use extensions on firefox anymore because it takes up to much memory and i see it as pointless ...........I was using IE7but when I heard (at this forum) that FireFox was better I started to use Firefox.
But Since I have quite a few problems with my computer and had to run CHKDSK /F /X for a few times.
I noticed that after each time I ran it FireFox was completely reseted.
In the beginning I just adjusted it each time but After a while I was TIRED of it.
Now I'm using IE7 again.
But If I would have that problem I would use FireFox.

Jonas What was reset in FireFox ? ?
Chkdsk shouldn't do this to FireFox...Quote from: Jonas Wauters on July 22, 2007, 02:30:47 PM

Solve : Add or Remove Programs panel shows two versions of Firefox?

Answer»

Hey guys, my panel shows version 2.0.0.3 and 2.0.0.5, which I just installed yesterday. Can I remove version 2.0.0.3? What will happen if I do that?According to this thread you shouldn't uninstall it. Just use CCleaner to remove the 2.0.0.3 entry.
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=241413

EDIT:
This thread seems to agree that uninstalling 2.0.0.3 wouldn't be a good idea.
http://www.webuser.co.uk/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/355108/an/0/page/0Thanks for those links. They do seem to indicate that uninstalling 2.0.0.3 wouldn't be a good idea.

So, that's different from the way Sun's Java works. If you update it and an older version is still in the Add or Remove PROGRAMS panel, that older version can be removed.

I wonder if Add or Remove Programs panel will accumulate more of these Firefox entries when additional updates are installed. I realize CCleaner could be used to remove the entry from Add or Remove Programs panel. I guess the underlying question is whether there's actually wasted disk space due to un-needed older program files remaining in the system or is it basically a glitch in Firefox installation procedure that is leaving the older version still in Add or Remove Programs panel. From what I've read it's a glitch in the install procedure that fails to remove the old entry in add/remove.
Assuming that the newer FF got installed to the same directory as your old one, I don't think you have to worry about extra files taking up disk space, SINCE both versions use the same files. If this wasn't the case the 2.0.0.3 uninstaller wouldn't remove the newer install.

Personally this have never happened to me so I don't think you need to be overly worried about FF entries accumulating in Add/Remove.

Btw. personally I've always HATED the way Java updates. Each install takes up 70+ MB, so if you got auto update on and don't uninstall the PREVIOUS versions they can easily take up a lot of disk space.I'm brave; I zapped it with regedit, one of the ways MENTIONED at http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=554091. You could also use MozBack to backup your profiles and do a clean install of the newest version...this is how i got rid of it.

Solve : Pictures and graphics are not clear in ie????

Answer»

Recently I updated to ie7 and all my pictures on it look like pixcels. If I right clik on them and then clik on Show original image they come in clear. I was told the ie 7 has some trouble yet so I went back to ie6 and the same thing is happening. I use windows xp and have no problems with any other programs at all. Any help at all would be very appreciated.WITHOUT more information, the best I can suggest is deleting your Temporary Internet Files.

Does this problem happen with any other browser?thanks for you answer, I have DELETED all temp files. Uninstalled ie7 and installed ie 6 again same problem. I reinstalled ie 7 problem still there. This problem doesn't happen in email just explorer. Could there be a problem with my HARD drive? Would that not show up in every program?? I run Windows xp home edition.Quote from: CBMatt on May 21, 2007, 12:20:42 PM

Does this problem happen with any other browser?
Try using Firefox or Opera and see if the same thing happens.

Also, download CCleaner (install without Yahoo! toolbar) and set it up according to this guide.

And in IE, go to Tools > Internet Options. Click on the Advanced tab and then click on Restore Defaults. Click on OK.
(NOTE: I'm using IE6. These steps may vary slightly for IE7.)

Let me know if this changes anything. Are you on DIALUP with some kind of "accelerator" software? You didn't give that info, but that can cause this.

Solve : Flash Player/ Javascript- images/ videos dont load?!?

Answer»

Hi, I have a Dell laptop that runs on Windows XP. Recently I had a virus and a computer technician deleted the virus and put Symantec Antivirus on my computer. However, since the virus was deleted, many of my websites don't work, such as banking websites and tv websites (like abc.com, mlb.com, etc.). The websites say that I dont have my javascript enabled (which I do) or that I dont have flash player (which I do). I even tried to redownload macromedia flashplayer and the place where I was supposed to click "install now" didn't show up. Do you have any idea whats wrong with my computer? Thank you!

Check to see if the Norton product you have includes a firewall...if it does you will need to do some tweaking in there to get it to ALLOW the sites you cannot currently visit.I opened up my anitivirus and it didnt say anything about a firewall, but I dont really know where to look. However, I tried disabling the antivirus to see if the computer WOULD work and it still did not. Any other ideas? Thank you!If you are using IE do the following:

1. Start
2. SETTINGS
3. Control Panel
4. Internet Options
5. Security tab
6. RESET all 4 security zones to Default

1. Start
2. Settings
3. Control Panel
4. Internet Options
5. Privacy
6. Restore 1 Default button

1. Start
2. Settings
3. Control Panel
4. Internet Options
5. Advanced
6. Restore 1 Default button

You MAY need to do the following as well

1. Start
2. Settings
3. Control Panel
4. Internet Options
5. General tab
6. Remove cookies, temporary files and history

that is not in English, sorry I should of specified that it was in English.

What I really meant to ask was:

how do you CHANGE the home page to the default in firefox?

btw, I figured it out with some light googleing:

it was something like tools--->options---->main---->check restore to default

i think

thanks for the input thoughTools / Options / General...the FIRST THING you see is what homepage listing you want...I'm curious...what program did you INSTALL that made this change? Is it legit?bearshare-not the "most" legit, but certainly not unheard OFSO your Homepage is now bearshare or you are unable to change it to what you want ? ?

Please clarify.Maybe both.I'm sorry, I thought I did clarify two posts ago, the problem has been solved! in detail:

When I installed bearshare, it changed the homepage of my default browser (firefox) to a bearshare webpage.

soon after I noticed this, I followed the procedure given to me by Patio. when I selected "restore to default" my homepage was instantly reset to the default, and has been the firefox default homepage ever since, problem solved.Good to hear you are fixed up...

Solve : WORK'S ABILITY TO COPY WEB MAIL??

Answer»

Hi here's a question for ALL the gurus out there ....

When at work...
I know any email I send from my work computer from my work email .... is copied at the mail server...
Its their software and hardware... and its where they place fire walls and .... etc etc etc...

But now...
thanks to President Bush....
companies now have the ability ... so they say...
to copy the sent emails from web accounts ... like HOTMAIL... or YAHOO...
also copy unsent emails... from these same accounts on the web...
AND ALSO... emails you read....

This is what they say....

How true is this?
How would you know its being copied?

What about accounts that are secured.. like school email accounts... that have some more added security to them....

does this not make it harder for some of these web watching softwares?

Anyone???
Anyone???
Anyone??? :-? :-?Actually in reality anything you do at work on their TIME and on their machine can be monitored INCLUDING but not limited to e-mail, browsing, IM's etc.

It's been some Co's Corporate policy for some time and has nothing to do with Bush...

Just be knowledgeable that it can be done and act accordingly. My work's policy is that Computer/Network/Internet is for company use only. They don't mind us using the net at work (like now) but we can and will be monitored at any time. They may terminate at will for any deemed offensible.Read the POST again... this isn't what i ask...

NEXT!

Can someone tell me how do you know if they copied your web mail...
is there a way to do this...?

I'm fully aware that they can track your time ... on each site...
I'm fully aware that they can see which sites you hit....

But to now copy emails you read off the web.... is some thing new...

Google WEB WATCHER software and see what i mean.... for those who need to be educated...

architech..... To give you a quick answer .......... It's yes they can copy it and you would not know. Just bear in mind that it's their system .........

Solve : I can't view some web pages?

When I try to visit certain web pages, I can see the page for a few seconds and then INTERNET suddenly collapses and closes all the web pages that are opened. It doesn't happen with all internet sites, only with some. This is very annoying and I have no IDEA what the problem is. (I use windows xp and internet explorer 6.0).

P.D. I only have a very "basic" knowledge about COMPUTERS so can you be explicit when answering this question? Thank you very much!!!What internet pages does this happen on?
What virus and spyware protection do you have, and what FIREWALL?
What happened before this started? We can be explicit with answers if you are explicit with information PROVIDED.

Suddenly means fast clicking, right? I suspect you're actually opening two windows by clicking on the icon twice. Slow down a bit and make sure you aren't clicking twice on the icon. Does that work?Quote from: Calum on May 15, 2007, 09:40:35 AM

Bit fo a longshot, but your folder options may be set to single clicking for opening items...

go to Control Panel > Folder Options and under the "General" TAB, ther will be a "Click items as follows" option, make sure this is set at "Double-click to open an ITEM (single item to select)" and click Apply... does this solve it?Quote from: skannan007 on May 15, 2007, 01:17:32 AM

Solve : Can't connect to internet, router says excellent connection?

Answer»

Hello,
I am new here and looking for some help. I have 2 laptops running off a wireless router. One's fine, the other isn't able to connect to the internet suddenly. It looked like the router address was incorrect so I manually changed that, now the Intenal PROSet/Wirelss says connected, but when I launch IE 7 it says I'm working offline. I have checked in Tools to make sure I'm not supposed to be offline, and have tried a variety of web addresses.

Any ideas?Sorry, also should've mentioned I have no other browsers loaded and connecting with the cable doesn't work either. What OS are we talking about here? Win XP or Vista?Running XP.Go START>RUN, type in:
cmd
Click OK.

In Command Prompt window, type in following commands, and hit Enter after each one:
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Restart computer.Thank you for your help. Here's what I got, not sure what it means.

Ipconfig/registerdns
Registration of the DNS records for all adapters of this computer has been initiated. Any errors will be reported in the Event Viewer in 15 minutes…

Ipconfig/release
No operation can be performed on the Local Area Connection while it has its media disconnected.

restarted, IE still says working offline. Tried it again with waiting 15 minutes (in case the ipconfig/registerdns needed to process 15 minutes) still no luck.

Start>Run, type in:
cmd
Click OK.

At Command Prompt, type in:
ipconfig /all
Hit Enter.

Copy everything, and paste it back here.Hi - can't copy and paste SINCE I have to go between laptops, so hopefully I get this right.

Solve : IE error message?

Answer»

I have Internet Explorer 6 with windows 98SE. Some months ago an error message started cropping up with IE and it would shut down. A WINDOW would come up asking to report the error to Microsoft, which I did on numerous occasions with no response. I have tried numerous WAYS of getting rid of the problem without SUCCESS so I use Firefox most of the time but I do need to use IE on occasions. I cannot upgrade to IE7 because of the system I have. I have been unable to reinstall IE6.If I remember correctly 98SE in the control panel under add/remove if you click on IE it gives you the opportunity to remove or repair. Running repair may correct your problem.I have been unable to reinstall IE6 I forgot to mention that it takes sometime for the repair to take place, so be SURE and wait until it tells you to reboot. It would be easy to think the program had stalled. Thanks for that suggestion. I have done that so IE6 has been re-installed. It now works OK except that it puts out an error message when I click on X to shut it down. this error message seems to be an error. I can now use IE so LONG as I am prepared to ignore the false error message. What does it say?
Maybe, you should try Firefox? Less problems...I have been using Firefox for months but occasionally it is necessary to use IE.I see...

Solve : Proxy Suggestions?

Answer»

Anyone have any suggestions for a way to setup a proxy for a dial-up user that will preload all the frequently visited WEB sites ( about 75 websites ) on a proxy so that their MAIN computer would load the web pages off of the locally cached pages and everything is as QUICK as high speed on the local lan as long as they dont TRY to acquire data that is not precached on a proxy?

I cant seem to find any proxys out there that allow for a list of websites to be entered for the proxy to dial-up access and precache the web pages.

Any suggestions, unfortunately high-speed internet is not available since they are out in the back woods of NY state up by canada, and they only have dial-up because they have a phone ... ha ha

I suggested to them to take thier older Pentium 3 computer and turn it into a proxy to precache the internet, but only heard of this done, but never set up a proxy myself to be able to point them through it.

Hoping someone knows of an easy to use inexpensive proxy. I see that Apachee has a Proxy solution for free, but it might not do what I NEED it to for them.

Any suggestions???

Solve : IE 7 saying "Cryptographic service not working"?

Answer»

I use Windows XP Service pack 2 and IE 7 and am having a problem viewing webpages that require logins or passwords, ie., bank websites, email, etc. I downloaded firefox and everything works fine.
I tried to reinstall IE 7 and even downloaded IE 8 Beta but when I try to run them I get a message saying
"SETUP could not verify the integrity of these files. Make sure the cryptographic service is running on this computer.

Could you tell me what might be wrong with IE?
This has happened before, but within a couple of days, the problem seemed to resolve itself???
Thanks!Go Start>Run, type in:
services.msc
Click OK.
Find Cryptographic Services in the list, and see if it's listed as STARTED, and its startup type is set to Automatic.Have same problem but when I tried to correct got "error message 193" HELP!-pleasekernel
Please, start your own topic.I checked Cryptographic services under "services msc" and yes it is started and runs automatically. * If the Cryptographic Services service was already running, stop the service by clicking the Stop button. Using Windows Explorer, locate the folder C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 and rename it to something like xcatroot. Now restart Cryptographic Services by clicking the Start button, and try IE again.
* If same error still OCCURS, stop the Cryptographic Services service again. Open a command prompt window (click Start, Run, type cmd and hit Enter) and then type the following commands:

regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 sccbase.dll
regsvr32 slbcsp.dll
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll

Restart Cryptographic Services by clicking the Start button again. Try IE.Renaming the folder to xcatroot did not work. I enter the commands but when I when to restart the cryptographic service, I got an "Internet explorer script error"
Line: 1
Character: 1
Error: Unknown
Code: 0
URL: res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\mmcndmgr.dll/views.htm
Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?
I entered yes & no and it still would not start.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308260 and also: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1e1550cb-5e5d-48f5-b02b-20b602228de6&displaylang=enGo Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools, and click on IE (no add-ons).
Same THING happens?Yes, lol...that worked..why? So, do I have to restart the cryptographic service because it would not work yesterday after I did what you told me....
thanks!!Some IE add-on is messing up things. To find out, which one....
Open IE normally, go Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab, and click "Reset" button.
This will disable all add-ons.
Restart computer. See, if you can access sites in question.
If you do, start enabling add-ons, one-by-one, restarting IE each time, and checking troubled sites access.
Do so, until you'll find the CULPRIT.

Solve : Lost ..?

Answer»

Hi,
For a long time I have been losing my bookmarks in firefox, Today right now when I logged in , I saw that my bookmarks are lost again, It has happened before , It seems that my bookmarks are disappearing periodically or something!!

It's so annoying I've lost my bookmarks so many times !!

I COLLECT them and then one day they are gone!!!!

Please help.

Thankyou Here's one ALTERNATIVE for you: a program called MozBackup, which backs up your bookmarks and other settings you select to your hard drive. There is one other procedure, but I have to look it up real quick.
Quote

http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/

Alright I'm installing it but what could be the reason? Why do they just keep disappearing ?I knew you were going to ask that! I'm thinking! While you reflect on that , here's another thing.

I've installed it and now while i began to run it ,its askin me to choose between two options,

1) Backup Profile 2)Restore profile

I guess I have to chose backup profile cause I can't restore anything since I don't have any backups already.

Is it?

EXCELLENT!

You found the source of the problem! Now, we have to be careful. I'm reading up on what to do -- Yes, you should only have one profile, so let's SEE what needs to be done. Which source!!

I was talking about options.Do me a favor, please: press ctrl-alt-del to bring up the Windows task manager, click on the Processes tab, and tell me how many times you see firefox.exe on the list. You can just close that window when you're done.Task manger shows just one firefoxAlso -- I'm going to post the link of the thread / info I'm reading:

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=258366

I had this problem last year on my desktop computer. I kept getting multiple instances of firefox.exe, as many as four or five at a time. I'm trying to remember how I solved the situation.

Okay, just one firefox.exe for you -- good.I could tell you to just start deleting profiles, but I wonder if your bookmarks are in an exisiting profile -- sorry it's taking me so long -- I'm trying to be cautious.Nice instructions and screenshots on the following thread...I'm still reading!

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_new_Firefox_profile_on_Windows
I didn't have any profile before i installed mozback .

And i'm reading up the link you've given .

Thanks Well, you can BLAME me if it messes up again -- I'm really trying not to have you go in circles! It's alright , its not a big issue, this is nothing .

I'm sure this will be solved soon, It just irritated me a lil cause I had my animation learning forums links bookmarked (to help me with my on going studies).

When I went to open a web site, all of a sudden more and more EXPLORER windows started to open. At one time I had almsot 60 windows opened at one time. I had to SHUT down the computer.

Any ideas?

In the meantime, I will run a VIRUS scan.Your virus scan will not proof to be very effective.

I suggest you read this article and install the software recommended by the administrator:

Please Read This First - Viruses & SpywareSome web designers will put popups on their page or load other pages as part of the onload event of the original so you may end up with many many many pages. Sometimes the same thing will happen based on the onclose event.. you close the original window and another pops up automaticaly. Get the Google toolbar for free, it has a pretty good built in popup STOPPER. Also.. next time you should stay out of the porn sites or stop looking for warez.Or use a browser such as Mozilla Firefox. It has a built in pop-up blocker and many more useful features in your personal fight against the Spam.

See the News section for more details.I use the Google toolbar which has a built-in pop-up blocker and now my pop-ups are pretty much nil. That does not mean that the Spyware that may be undermining your privacy is gone as well.I use the free version of PopupStopper from:

http://www.panicware.com/

You can give that a try. It seems to stop most popups (I do get some popups that are associated within whatever site that I am on.) Better off using Mozilla Firefox. An entirely new browser with an incredibly effective pop-up blocker.best of the bunch is secretmaker from secretmaker.com freeware and does more than just pop-ups

Solve : Site Access?

Answer»

I am having a problem accessing several sites which I previously had no problem with.

The following occurs when I attempt access:

I receive a message as follows:

"Microsoft Internet Explorer

Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly.

OK"

Clicking on "OK" causes a second message to pop up:

"Microsoft Internet Explorer

You MUST click YES to get access

OK"

UNFORTUNATELY there is no "YES" to click on.

When I try to close or delete this message I am returned to the first message and eventually into a closed loop jumping from message to message. I must then GO to Task Manager to shutdown this loop which in turn closes Internet Explorer.

I have not modified my security settings. I have tried with security set to minimum and Zone Alarm disabled with the same result.

I have also done a complete virus scan, cleaned all adware, spyware, and cookies, cleaned and optimized the registry, ran SFC and completed a repair installation of WinXP but the problem still exists.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.Restore your Internet settings to default. Perhaps something has modified it for you?

Go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced TAB in Internet Explorer

Or

Go to Start -> Settings -> Configuration -> Internet Options -> Advanced Tab

intially IE was just REALLY REALLY slow.. btu then it stopped working all together and now it cant find the PAGES. but i know i'm getting a fast, strong signal from the Wireless modem. and all the desktop computers (which happen to be macs) all work with the internet. so i know its not the internet, its a *censored* up with IE or some sort of internet preference. Solve : Files are automatically opened?

Answer»

When I go to download something on the internet, the box that asks if I want to 'open' or 'save' or 'cancel' is gone, and all files are automatically opened. I need to save certain files.
Please help me bring the box BACK! what is your operating system and internet explorer? SCAN for bugs first? What have you done in order to make the options dissapear? Are you using a download manager?I have Windows XP, which was pre-installed with Internet Explorer. I'm not sure which version of explorer I have. I think I ACCIDENTALLY unticked the tick box that said always ask before preforming this operation. And no, I don't even know what a download manager is.
I hope this helps!
:-/you are using ie6 on winxp...go to tools/internet options/advanced tab ...click....restore defaults click...the click ok...done..a download manager some people using ..it all depends on your NET connection..for example get right....when ever you connection is BROKEN the download manager resumes your downloads with without file loss...

Solve : links won't work in IE6?

Answer»

Help-- No LINKS will work for me! A new page opens, but the address bar is blank. Sometimes I can copy and paste, but even clicking 'open in new WINDOW' won't work. I've run my anti-virus, ad-aware and SPYBOT, but it didn't help. I also ran the program to repair ie6-didn't work either. Can anyone help or give me a suggestion?Check that your firewall isn't blocking your browserSet your advanced settings to "Default" in Internet Explorer options.

Start -> Settings -> Configuration -> Internet Options -> Advanced tab

Or

Extra (Tools?) -> Internet Options -> Advanced tab

Perhaps a browser such as Mozilla FIREFOX is a good alternative.OK. I'm tired of all this crap with IE6. I'm downloading firefox as I type. I've never tried an alternative browser, so I'm a little nervous. Thanks for the advice.Go to the News SECTION on this forum, I have posted an article related to Mozilla Firefox.

There is nothing to be nervous about, as Firefox will not be used as a standard browser unless you configure it to.

Solve : Continual Popups?

Answer»

Hi, can SOMEONE give me some advice please?

I keep getting popups all the time on my machine from Vegas Red Casino, Golden Palace Casino, Chrysler, Capital One and other telling me I have SPYWARE on my system. Some are from sandboxer.com.

I've run Adaware, Spybot S&D, WinPatrol, Spyware Doctor, System Mechanic 4 Pro, Tweak Now, yet still can't get rid of the *censored* things!!

I've run hijack this and it seems there is an .exe file (I may be wrong) thats causing the damage, problem is I can't get rid of it and it seems to change name all the time to make it more difficult to spot.

I'm running Windows 2000.

below is my Hijack this log:
