Hi everyone,

It is in some desperation that I have been directed here via various search engines, in order to ask a question with regard to a particularly annoying problem I have.

For a couple of months now, I have been unable to access the forum on a particular 'flight simming' website (captainsim.com). I used to be able to access it just fine, but one day, all of sudden, I was presented with a 'page cannot be displayed' message. The forum on the website in question, USES a '.info' address...'www.captainsim.info/forum', I soon discovered that the only other part of the website that I can't access is their online store, which not suprisingly happens to ALSO use the .info address. Just as a sort of TEST, whilst MESSING around with addresses, I typed in www.captainsim.com/forum, and was presented with a test forum from the website. If nothing else, this did at least seem to confirm that the part of the address that is being rejected is the '.info'.

I have tried adding the forum address to my trusted sites, deleted all cookies and cleared internet cache etc, disabled firewall, all with no success.

If anyone could offer me some advice on why all of a sudden I have been unable to access this part of the website in question, and what I may do to solve the problem, I would be most appreciative.

I hasten to add that it is just me with this problem, I have discovered that others can access the forum in question with no problems at all.

try re-setting to defaults in internet options or try ANOTHER browser like firefox or avant i have tried this site with no fault found or contact the web team for more advice>www.phpbb.com.Perhaps the website is down. Have you tried contacting the webmaster yet?alsummers....I just visited the site in question and it appears to be working ok.....
Have you changed any of your settings ?
Perhaps try resetting them to default ( Internet settings)

Pictures, links, text etc. won't down load on certaing web pages. I SOMETIMES takes 3 or 4 refreshes to actually be ABLE to view the entire site. Running Win98 and IE 6, This happened after downloading IE 6 UPDATES. I have a dial-up with earthlink Total Access 2004. Total Access also has a tendency to freeze as well. Browsing with out starting total access also YIELDS the same problems.

Any suggestions? this seems to be a common problem with ie6 on 9x machines?either uninstall ie 6 from the add/remove in the control panel or download another browser like firefox from mozilla...if you can that is...I have been running ie6 for a while. this problem has been occurring only recently...for the past week or two.

I am going to try to D/L some udates from windows.

Oh thanks again for the help with fixing my appearance problems. You get around. Norton Antivirus (Or anything else with Ad-blocker software) MAY cause this problem.

How do you check the date and a certain webpage is viewed.
Look in the INTERNET temporary files DIRECTORY. SORT by DETAILS and look at the date. Could also check the date of cookies in the cookies directory or look at the history info in Internet Explorer.

I bought a computer from my workplace. I brought it home and tried to DOWNLOAD AOL and I got a message something to the effect that a type of software having to do with a network would not download AOL into the computer. We are on a network at work and my old computer uses AOL with a modem. It sounds to me like I'll need to make CHANGES so that the computer I purchased is not a network computer but I have no clue how to do that. Any IDEAS? ???Ok, when i try to open ie on my laptop it says somthing like.. Internet Explorer freezes for about 10 seconds when I type in a URL or choose one from my drop-down list. When I access a site from my favorites, there is no delay. When I type anything into the Google Toolbar, there is no delay, it goes right to Google results. It only happens, like I said, when I type the address or get it from the list. Once I pass the delay, everything works as it should. Any help or SUGGESTIONS would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!

T.M. When I type a URL it usually TAKES about 10 seconds to get to the page (USING 56K dialup). When I click on a Favourite the page is almost instant because when you store a favourite it leaves a cookie on your PC which helps with the connection.I have a cable connection, so I should HIT the site almost instantly, even from a newly typed URL.

Whenever i go to nintendo.com using INTERNET Explorer, the site will not show up. The top part with the LINKS on it will show up but nothing else will. I also see this:

at the top of the screen. I'm using direcwav, a DSL provider, but I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Also, at the bottom of the IE screen there is a PICTURE with an eye and a red circle with a slash through it. I also don't know if this has anything to do with it. It's only been happening for about a week now, but this is really bothering me. I go to a DANCE forum (dance.net; I'm a dancer) and lately, when I try to go to that site in IE, it freezes. I'll hit ctrl+alt+delete, and it tells me that IE is not responding, but I try to end the program and it just freezes my computer again and I have to manually restart. dl65 I'm really computer stupid and have no clue what o/s is or I'd answer that, I think I am on DSL or Cable. I am pretty sure I have all updates I OUGHT to have. Don't worry about it anymore though, my brother graduated and got a laptop for his graduation present and is giving me his computer is a week so it's all good.For future reference.. OS MEANS Operating System. Win XP, Win 98, Mac, Linux are all examples of Operating Systems.

Im right clicking on pics, trying to save them on my hard drive but when i go to save them my computer FREEZES & i always have to click on task manager to END the task. I am having issues playing mpegs. I use IE Explorer 6.0 and Windows MEDIA PLAYER 9.

I used to be able to click on an mpeg and it would automatically start playing in WMP. But now, if I click on an mpeg...it doesn't play. It just "hour GLASSES" forever.

Also, when I try to right click and select "save target as..." it never downloads....it takes forever.

I used to be able to do this with no problems. What COULD be going on here? Thanks.

Hi, My internet connection is only at 24,000bps max. When I play on this poker site it seems when I get over 2,000,000 bytes sent the game slows down and some times locks up. I then have to reboot and go back to the site to play. I was wondering why this happens.
I was told that java had something to do with this.
I'm running windows 98, 800 meg HD, 320 Ram. Thanks for any help.

Java usually would only AFFECT logging on ( I think) , but you probably have M/S Virtual machine installed .....do you have Sun ( Java ) installed ? Is this something that has just started ?

Hi dl65, the modem is a 56k but the phone lines in this area only lets me connect at 24,000bps. No it slows down almost everytime I go on that site to play. Not sure about if I have Java installed or not. Could it be the site that I go to? When I was using dialup I used to go to a Casino and play vid poker .....I noticed that their site was really slow and at time I had to LEAVE come back and then it would work ok for a while and them just stop ......

As FAR as the modem properties , I have it set at the max 115,200. That is the only site that really gives me any problem. I haven't asked anyone else in the neighborhood about there connection speed, I guess I'll have to do that. Thanks for trying to help me out.
Philtry connecting the modem directly to the main phone box...and have you thought of broardband?or TRY update the modem drivers it may help?a 56k should run at 48bps?also maybe the modem needs changing how old is it?...

Ok I recently downloaded Browser Fortress (http://download.com.com/3000-2144-10278894.html?tag=lst-0-1). I quickly noticed this program wasn't very good at all when it wouldn't go to websites for no reason. I EVEN went to uninstall it only to find it still working and I manually had to delete it. Anyway when I still had the program (ha, I HATE to even call it that) running and opened up IE, the titles of the webpages WOULD be in a format similar to "The Title Of Page Here"- Protected by Browser Fortress even after I had susposively uninstalled it. Now webpages are similar to "The Title of Page Here" and a hyphen comes after every title of the WEBPAGE, every time. It's not really a big deal, just a little annoying. So can anyone TELL me how to get rid of that? Have heard that it messed up someone else's registry, although I'm not sure if that would matter in my case. I have a problem playing video (MPEG, AVI, MOV) files. I have also the same problem watching TV from my TV card. About every second the picture SLOWS down almost to a stop (stagnation) and it picks up and slows down again.

What could be the problem?

dl65 I have always have this problem. I've updated the drivers periodically. When I watch the videos, the CPU Usage is in the 40% range. Watching DVDs is fine, though.Have you researched the SPECS on your vid card ......maybe your pushing it beyond what it was designed to do.

dl65 Pushed what? I haven't done anything to it other than update the software for it.

When I watch a video though, one way to stop the stagnation is that I change the Set Priority of the program running from "Normal" to "Realtime" (in Windows Task Manager, Processes tab). I don't think this is safe because I am using all my resources for it and it may crash the computer at some point.blwol....when you watch tv through your TV (vid) card exactly how do you get the cable SIGNAL into your computer ?

I have been working on a website with a personnel directory that has a search option. When using the search option in IE, the user cannot hit ENTER to make the search. It returns no results. However, if he clicks on the search button, the site returns the appropriate results. When I use Mozilla, I only have to hit the enter key to make the search work properly. Is there any HTML code that will make the enter key work in IE, or is there something wrong with the settings? Is there any way to fix this problem?Are you using a SUBMIT button or are you using a plain button? You might be able to set the button as 'default' or something like that. Thanks to some help from people on this site, I found out I could use Windows Explorer to access web pages since my Internet Explorer gives an error when it tries to open.

I've tried to re-install IE 6 from the Microsoft WEBSITE but it never helps. I've also tried uninstalling IE beforehand, but it never appears to actually go away, if that makes sense. I use the 'remove programs" option and restart the computer, but all the icons are still there, etc. I wonder if I am not actually re-installing it when I try to.

Finally, when I use Windows Explorer on the Net, anytime I click on a link, it tries to open a NEW page in Internet explorer and i get my error again. Is there a way to change that option? Can I tell my computer to open links in Windows Explorer or some other alternative?When you hover your mouse over the link it should show you the destination on the bottom of your page. Type that location into your address bar and off you go.or try another browser like firefox from mozilla or avant the internet explorer that was it suppose to be ?Thanks, I have been USING the copy and paste functions with success. Problem:

When I LOG in (I start my computer, the user logins pop up, and I log in) THINGS go fine if I leave my internet CONNECTION off. When I turn on my connection (un-standby my modem) and go into IE I GET a set of errors.

"Run a DLL as an App"
-Asks to send error report, closable

"winlogon.exe - Application Error"
-CLICK OK to terminate and restarts my computer, click debug to screw up my computer worse

"An exception occured blah blah axaamon.dll", UMonitor"
-Nothing happens when I close it


If I leave the error windows up, I can do whatever, but if I close them, my computer reboots. Any ideas how to fix this? I've tried system restoring because I was really desparate, but still gets the same errorDoodage.....You say there's no problem until you enable your internet connection....Do you get the same result if you open your mail program instead of IE .

I'm unable to view secured web pages. I get an error MESSAGE indicating that the web PAGE can not be displayed. This happens all the time with every brower I've tried to use. Any idea what's causing this?kevin....what operating system are you using.....its POSSIBLE it could be a security setting thats causing that SITUATION .

dl65 I'm using Windows-XP. I was told by my internet provider (Verizon-DSL) that I had a corrupt "win" file in my registry which was PREVENTING me from viewing secured web pages. They also said I had to go back to the manufactor of the computer (Dell) so they could instruct me further. I'm in limbo, waiting for their reply. just put an s after http...............ok..

IE 6 has been really messed up page cannot display page will load cannot open links...and so on. ANYWAY the OPTION to remove IE 6 is grayed out and I get this message-ERROR CREATING PROCESSReason:the system cannot find the file spectified Is there any way to uninstall this? I have tried to INSTALL over itself but it just says I have the latest ver. and will not install. Repair option is a joke..system file checker does not find anything. Help! Also says previous internet files are missing-does not say what files they are.Linda....What happened ...did your p/c contact a virus?

with IE 6 and "touch wood" have not had any problems .......yet.......but I do make sure I have all the fixes and patches

My IE6 was mess up too. Go to some website (like hotmail.com and it won't go pass userID passwd page). Im running win98, n was thinking MAYB IE6 n win98 not suitable for each other.

As far as I know, IE cannot b downgraded n cannot be uninstalled.

My only solution is to use another broswer: Opera.

When on certain message boards, as soon as I click on the topic box chrome shows a dropdown of past MESSAGES (about 5). I was wondering how to stop it without uninstalling chrome and reinstalling. The horizontal scroll bar at the bottom of the screen is barely visible. This usually happens when changing the magnification of the screen. Some of the pages I go to are that way even with a setting of 100%. Is there any way to change it? I've messed with the resolutions but it doesn't help. I found this from searching and it says to add the Windows 7 extension. I can't see any harm in trying but thought I'd ask for some input from you guys. It seems anytime I change things in chrome, I lose my 25 plus thumbnails of links I have saved in speed-dial.

OK, I'm not getting any help, either I've asked a stupid question, not a very important question or no one has an answer. I have TWO computers that have Windows 10, one mouse which is a USB allows USING a wheel click to place a + sign inside a circle and when you move the mouse the page scrolls. The other has a wireless and won't. All settings are the same. Could that be the answer? I'll find out in a minute.

The answer is yes, the USB mouse has the + in a circle and when the wheel is clicked, the page will follow the movement of the mouse and the wireless won't. PERSEVERANCE RULES!

Can one get infected while
1. VIEWING an image loaded by a website (not clicking it)
2. After a user clicks on an image (for viewing in a larger RESOLUTION inside the browser or getting redirected etc)
3. Running and viewing video in a website
(Not downloading any of the above or viewing via a player outside the browser)I FEEL this should be in anissue in most of the cases, but some sites have javascripts loaded on hover effect.

Recently my INTERNET home page goes to one that I have not selected. This only changes when I start it after it has been shut down. Everytime I start my COMPUTER I must reset the home page on the internet options page. I even selected reset defaults to original position, but this page continues to come up after shutdown. As long as I don't shut down, the correct page comes up everytime I go online. It only happens after it has been shut down. The latest Ad-Aware .......after you get it installed click on updates to be sure you have the latest and then scan your machine .........I forget what that redirector is called thats causing your trouble but I think Ad -Aware will find it .

Go online and search for House Doctor free online virus scanner. Scan hard drive.(even if you already have virus protection,this picked up hijack software and my Macafee did not)

Go online run CW shredder.

I just downloaded and ran the Ad-Aware and it fixed the problem. I am, however, not sure what should have been removed and what should not have. Since it just went into quarantine, I deleted it all.

I have had this problem for a while, mostly while typing emails nothing I do fixes it, touch freeze, DISK clean even reinstalling Incredimail, I am SURPRISED it isn't happening here, there must be a reason for this behaviour, can anyone help with a solution. I have tried Incredimail with no success, It is driving me nuts, here's hoping. If this is on a laptop, then its likely that the touchpad is getting touched through the process or typing. On my ASUS Laptop I had to add a program that DISABLES the touchpad while the keystrokes are occurring. Otherwise I WOULD be typing a message and different areas of the email or document I am typing would all of a sudden have the pointer move the focus of what is to be typed elsewhere from where I was typing.

I have noticed that my firewall is disabled and it will not let me enable it. it says access denied only supervisor can VIEW and change. i have no supervisor. this is not on a network. i use norton antivirus and firewall and am paid thru 2-15-2005.

You might want to check >DOUBLE click on your Firewall icon a window will pop up. > Click Status and Settings>Click Personal Firewall > Click the program control tab > and you'll be able to check to SEE if access to the internet has been blocked and you can permit access again.
Becky Queen .....I would review the settings in your Norton Security.....it sounds LIKE you have a setting set that is PREVENTING you from accessing the pages you wish. REMEMBER .......when all fails read the instructions.

Thinking maybe there isn't a solution for this, but running this by everyone here to see if maybe there is a solution for this. So I have been playing around with Windows 10 as a gaming system and for the most part everything runs good, however some online flash games that I play I notice start to lag out after playing for about 10 minutes. I tracked this down to Edge starts to grab up gigs of RAM to where only 268MB is free in which a memory compression kicks in and starts to make for lots of hard drive activity. If I exit out of Edge then 3 GB of RAM is freed up. Launching Edge again everything is good and only 1.7GB of 4GB of RAM is in use. Logon to flash based online game and now 2GB of 4GB is in use. I sized the browser window down so I would watch the RAM use and as I was playing the game slowly megabytes of RAM were getting eaten up. Eventually after about 10 minutes or sooner if my browsing activity has me doing more than just the flash game it drops to less than 1GB free and when available RAM drops below 500MB that is when the game starts to lag out and memory compression kicks in around 300MB free. When this lag is happening, the CPU is not very busy but the RAM is full and the game starts to lag out and hard drive activity goes wild with the memory compression.

For the last couple days I have been just exiting the game and relaunching every 10 minutes or so to shed the wasted memory issue which appears to be some SORT of caching that this game causes to eat up my RAM. But thinking maybe even though a google search turned up dry on this, maybe there is a way to shut off the caching feature which I believe is causing this issue with Edge. I have a fast internet connection so not sure why it needs to store data LOCALLY for the browser and from reading online it appears that its doing this to make performance better, but they are making it worse because I don't need this caching going on. Whenever a frequently needed piece of information is needed I have broadband internet and so just grab a new copy vs a cached copy of what ever object it is.

The game is Forge of Empires https://us.forgeofempires.com/ which I play with some guys at work who introduced me to it. I have tried Firefox for this game and Firefox lags right at the get go, so I went to Internet Explorer for Windows 7 and no problems at all with Internet Explorer on Windows 7. Then I am trying to force myself to get use to Windows 10 and came across this annoyance of Edge in eating up all available RAM with this game and hoping for a solution without swapping browsers. I haven't tried Chrome yet to see if its the best choice at this point, but if I can avoid using Chrome, I'd like to be able to shut off this caching or purge the cache somehow to keep it from building in which if at all possible I just have a batch running or VBScript running that dumps the Edge Cache every 60 seconds etc if that's even doable I am not sure but just hypothetically speaking of a work around if Edge itself doesn't have a toggle option to shutting off its Caching, maybe the cache itself can be targeted on a timer interval to purge it if its unprotected of purging etc.

Additionally I have seen some people with same issue with Edge being memory hungry and one guy upgraded to 8GB RAM and he just stated that Edge is memory hungry with its caching and more RAM just REDUCES how often memory compression has to kick in which to me just sounds stupid. How much information has to really be cached. If I had 32GB RAM, could Edge decide to Cache 30.5GB of 99% useless info that can otherwise just be redownloaded on the fly.

Additionally to add to this.... I installed Windows 10 Home 64-bit on another computer also with 4GB RAM and a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4Ghz and clean install of Windows 10 Home 64-bit running this game right at the get go no software installed and Windows cleanly installed from Microsoft supplied ISO image, Edge starts to eat up the RAM and memory compression kicks in the same. So I know its not just this build. Its something with Edge being memory hungry which I believe to be excessive caching of web content and the flash game Forge of Empires maybe has lots of elements that are cacheable...

The computer by the way runs everything else awesomely well. I downloaded over 300GB of games from my steam library and am testing them out on my new build, and the APU surprisingly is running really well. Games I thought it would choke on its playing at quick FPS like Blades of Time. It will be interesting when I get to testing Witcher 3 if I will cripple the APU. How hard can I push it before I bring that mobile APU the AMD A8-5545m 1.7Ghz with 2.7Ghz Turbo APU to its knees. Witcher 3 I know if going to be a long shot for it to run but it will be interesting to see just how bad or maybe this APU will surprise me and run it at 30 fps. But, since I tend to have a lot of browser tabs open at the same time, I quickly realized Edge was hogging memory. That's when I decided to ignore Edge and use a different browser. Chrome does the same thing with multi tabs open...

[attachment deleted by admin to conserve space]You might try disabling Javascript. Depending on what is on the page, it may be that advertisements or other background logic are running. Edge's Javascript Interpreter is practically an open sieve when it comes to memory as a few Javascript HTMLInputElement wrappers are cleaned up within the javascript engine correctly but the native component is not free'd and is orphaned and is thus a memory leak.

You might also try disabling Page Prediction.

Of course, it may also be a problem with Adobe Flash. Some browsers are affected worse than others. Or perhaps an issue with Edge altogether, as people have been reporting memory usage problems for quite some time; Microsoft's response on their forums has gone from dismal to outright ridiculous. One thread I found had the tagged Microsoft Support USER advising that the user needs to replace their Memory modules.

Thanks soybean for your input in this too. Its unfortunate that Firefox doesn't play well with this flash game for me. I had been using Firefox for years and then all of a sudden either the latest Firefox introduced game lag when you click on an object and the animation is lagged and the response is sometimes 2 or 3 seconds before you hear the audio trigger to an event you clicked on which use to be instantaneous etc, or Adobe Flash updated and made this change, or the game itself server side they made a change that just runs like mud on Firefox for me on systems I have tested the game on to see if it was a system issue or browser issue etc. On systems running Windows 7 Internet Explorer runs the game with no problems. And with Windows 10 the game runs fast as well, until all RAM is consumed and then becomes just about unresponsive and same event trigger lag as Firefox has etc.

I tried getting toolbar to show up to go into tools for Edge last night but I needed to get to sleep and so I gave up on it to deal with it today. I guess the cache area must be protected well for someone to not have come up with a tool by now to clear it on the fly. There is always memory injection methods, but those usually lead to BSOD and all sorts of other problems if your targeting the wrong memory allocation to wipe a web cache. I've only messed with those sorts of tools in stand alone games where you can target an address and force unlimited ammo and health etc and force a god mode to a game with a known address for whatever it is your forcing a value to. Not sure if its allowed to talk any further about memory injection, so gonna drop it at that.

Closing and opening a browser every 10 minutes when all RAM is consumed might be the way it is I guess. The etchasketch method Update to this:

Tried the stuff suggested by BC and didnt see a change.

However I installed 8GB RAM last night as ( 2 x 4GB DDR3 1600Mhz ) sticks to replace the 2 x 2GB DDR3 1333Mhz and this pointed out something interesting that I didnt see with 3.2GB of the 4GB usable. With 3.2GB usable of 4GB due to shared memory of the GPU, I saw all my RAM consumed all the way to around 200MB free and then memory compression would kick in, and the game would lag out. What I found with 8GB RAM is that RAM use climbs to 4.1GB used by Edge Browser of the 7.2GB usable of 8GB with 768MB used by the GPU of the APU. And there is still 3.1GB RAM available of the 7.2GB and the game lags out the same. The other thing I discovered is that if I logon as one of my 5 accounts and do whatever game play is to be done and then close out Edge and then relaunch edge browser before logging on as another of my 5 game accounts the problem doesnt happen. But if I logoff of one account and logon as another account that next logon seems to be just barely lagged but as game play progresses the memory consumption of edge continues to rise and then the game lags out pretty badly including can become unresponsive yet the browser itself is still responsive to open new tabs and do whatever. Additionally while its lagged out badly the APU's CPU use of the quadcore is at 24% and its not 24% with 1 of 4 cores pegged to 96% its 24% CPU use with all cores mostly free and balanced load.

The issue seems to be with this game and the fact that I play multiple accounts. If I stick with one account per browser launch, the problem isnt there. Not quite sure how the game can become crippled yet the CPU isnt flooded with anything to crunch and the browser otherwise can go off to elsewhere while the game is crippled and everything else runs fine. I havent tried launching another flash game at the same time though to see if flash itself is borked.

8GB RAM also calmed my Hard Drive usage down lots for Windows 10. Far less paging and memory compression doesnt trigger or I havent found anything yet that causes it to trigger.

One odd issue that I had though with the RAM upgrade that I dont believe is related to any of this is that when I installed the RAM initially Windows 10 said I only had 3.2GB usable of 8GB. The BIOS and Windows 10 saw the full 8GB but it kept telling me that only 3.2of 4GB was available with 768MB shared with the GPU. Lots of hits on google for people complaining about Windows 10 having issues only using 1/2 your installed RAM. I ram memtest86 and no problems with the full 8GB. Tried going into advanced settings and MSconfig for memory management and no change to issue. I followed another persons suggestion to reseat the RAM and still no change. I was thinking i was going to have to stick my 2 x 2GB sticks back into it and maybe the 2 x 4GB sticks that are 1600Mhz arent supported somehow, but another person suggested swapping the sticks A to B and B to A. So I tried that since what can I lose from trying that when everything else didnt work. WHAMMO!! That was the fix. For some really strange unknown reason these RAM sticks will only work with Windows 10 to use all 8GB with 7.2 now available vs the issue of only getting half my RAM if the sticks were installed a certain way. Memtest86 run again for 4 iterations and no problems. The RAM installed was high end gaming RAM from Corsair and they are a matched set. Some other people on the hits had mentioned theirs was also Corsair so not sure if this is a bug with Windows memory management and some odd timing issue with Corsair memory that Memtest86 wont detect where with these 2 sticks installed in the current order satisfies Windows 10 because of the slightest difference between what should be 2 RAM sticks that perform exactly the same in performance. Happy that issue is over with with only 1/2 of my 8GB usable, and when i got my 8GB it pointed out that even with plenty of RAM left at 3.1GB left, the game lags and freezes up when switching accounts under the same Edge Browser session. So I guess the closing of Edge and relaunch of it for each account is the way to go. Most people dont play 5 accounts of the same game, but I found that its beneficial with this game to have something else to do while waiting for a material creation timer etc, so i can do something on account 1 and then do something on account 2, then 3, 4, 5 and then when done with 5 go back to account 1 and pick up where I left off vs twiddling my thumbs for a 5 minute timer which i cant just watch the counter and sit there bored, I have to do something and so I multitask in this game to get rid of idle time. As well as its great when I need materials I can just trade it between my own accounts and self assist under my own guild. Sounds like a memory leak in the Flash Player software. Which wouldn't surprise me whatsoever.

Anyway, regarding memory compression, it is used to avoid paging. Instead of paging information to disk, it compresses the information. Which (at least in theory) is faster to decompress/compress than to read/write from disk.


Leading back somewhat to your original question, You can turn it off via an administrator powershell. However I wouldn't expect that it would fix the issue because the issue is largely due to the memory load, and not the fact that compression is being used RATHER than disk paging.

There must be something else behind the scenes that is limited I am guessing and it gets to its limit and thats why the lag happens and eventual freeze. Is there a memory cap that Flash can get to to which it chokes itself to death even when more memory is available?

I can run other browser tabs and no lag there other than I havent tried a second flash instance yet, and everything else is snappy and responsive without lag for the rest of Windows 10.

Also thanks for the info on how to enable/disable mmAgent via powershell. Gopnna check that out when I get home from work especially the help page it has. Edge uses the Adobe Flash Player that is frustratingly bundled with Windows. Just checking the module listings and it uses C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\Flash.ocx.

Perhaps that is out-of-date?

Also remember Adobe Flash is pretty much it's own programming environment, so the game itself may be responsible for it's own memory leaks via ActionScript, too.

Bull...With my version I have found that on Adobe's TEST page, I see the "Flash was blocked on this page" show up in the address bar (a puzzle piece with an X through it) I can CLICK the box in the web page (the small test flash file) with the "puzzle piece" logo and click "Enable Adobe Flash". The page refreshes and I get the same "blocked" indicator, but I can click the Flash Player 'object' again the run the plugin.

Note that using Flash Player in Chrome should be done using the built-in Flash Player. If you see any "Adobe Flash" EXTENSIONS in chrome://extensions then you should remove them- Those extensions are what Chrome now blocks unilaterally, and they try to take over the built-in Flash Player which means that no Flash content can be used if the extension is installed.

When I open internet explorer 6.0 my home page is some search engine crap, so I change it in the options menu to msn.com, and 5 minutes later it is changed back to that search engine page, I don't want that page, yet it keeps coming up as my homepage after I change the homepage in the settings menu... any ideas on how to fix? Most browser HIJACK programs rely on something being in the start page box in the IE settings. If you leave it blank sometimes their garbage pages won't appear.

Also, I second the virus scan, spyware and adware scan, and trojan scan. Those pests can REALLY create a mess.

Also, if you can't afford to buy an antivirus program.
AVG Antivirus is a very good Windows based virus scanner and it is totally free (the program and the updates).

Or if you are an avid-Dos user F-Prot Antivirus has a free Dos virus scanner. I think it might be detect and removal but I'm not sure. But it comes in handy if you can't boot into windows because of a bad virus. You can make a bootable cd that'll run on startup. I only WISH other tools were this handy and didn't rely on windows so much.

Anyway, good luck.

And don't forget to update your Windows and Browser files by using www.windowsupdate.com .

Will my Gmail account be AFFECTED in ANYWAY if I were to restore default settings to Google Chrome? I understand I’ll have to put the settings back to the way I had them, but will my email and BOOKMARKS be affected? I had played with different ad blockers and now my location is all messed up. My ip address is ok it’s just when I do a search it shows a location of Louisille, Kentucky INSTEAD of Parma, OH. Might seem like a silly question but I can’t get it answered. I feel, if you have backed them up, then you may regain them, other wise it can be difficult.

Try placing folder in Local/AppData/Chrome and deleting some folders newly created. So old folder will still be holding the old configuration.

I've had both AOL and Firefox for years and this afternoon Firefox decided not to let me open my AOL. One of the suggestions provided was to open Firefox in Safe Mode. So, I did, and followed the instructions and exited Firefox. I signed in again and it took me to the Safe Mode again and this happened 3 times even though I did as instructed for Firefox being stuck in Safe Mode and restarted my computer. I have Windows 7 Pro with all newest updates, 64 bit. I would like to know if I deleted Firefox and reinstalled it without a browser how would my computer get to the Internet to download whatever is necessary to set up Firefox again? Internet Explorer is on my system but I've never used it so nothing has been updated on EI through Microsoft nor through Norton my security. A LOT of this is above my PAY grade. I will have to keep checking back to see if I've had any answers as I can't get into AOL to get my mail. Any thoughts out there? Thank youThere are may browsers that work with windows 10.

I commend you first try Chrome. You can download it with Firefox.

First I would download and install Malwarebytes and perform a full scan of your system. If you have any detections for problems share a screenshot of the problems or list which problems were detected. Malwarebytes is free for home users with a 14 day trial of premium service. When 14 days are up you can simply turn the premium service off but still able to use it for manual scans, just without realtime protection.

Curious if you have something that messed with your browser on the MALWARE side of things.

Additionally curious if your able to get to AOL from Internet Explorer even if its out of date?

One other thing to try is to see if its a corrupt profile for Firefox. The way to test this is to create another user account on that computer and then set it up with admin permissions. Then use Firefox logged on as that account and see if the problem is fixed.

Additionally you can click on HELP if you have the menu bar present at top of Firefox and check to be sure you have the latest version of Firefox installed. If its out of date you can select from there to tell it to update the browser.I've used Malewarebytes and Spyware Blaster for many years, running them about every other day along with deep scans from Norton.
I don't know what happened, but when I went back to my computer this morning, booted up and signed on to AOL through Firefox, it worked. I have this question about javascript. I USE Firefox and in the about:config section I search for javascript.enable and PUT it to FALSE (CUZ of security I only want it enable if its absolute needed). But there are also other lines, like "browser.urlbar.filter.javascript;true" and then I have like 50 other lines called "javascript.options.(etc)"
Does "javascript.enable" set to "false" affect all of them? And if not is it necessary for the privacy? (I dont want to use any premade script/addon).

I hope this is the RIGHT section for web based email questions. I use yahoo mail mostly since 2002 and I also use gmail. Starting ~ last 2 months, I've been getting a bunch of delivery failure notices that GO directly to my yahoo spam folder. But I'm not sending these. It always list '[emailprotected]' as the intended recipient (the characters vary in the position where I listed 'xxx' but the 'aircool' and the @paleoe.xyz are always the same).
1st thing I don't understand is that these all list the senders address as Gmail - 'Mail Delivery Subsystem <[emailprotected]>', but this issue is happening on my yahoo mail ACCOUNT.
Another issue that may or may not be related is that I never have any emails get put in 'Spam' folder with my gmail account. Never have that I remember since 2013 when I first opened this account with Google.

The first file in the folder is the url address for the "learn more" LINK listed in the emails, but I don't SEE any solution to my issue listed.

This isn't causing me any problem other than having to sort through a large number of emails in my 'spam folder' in order to check if any legit emails got automatically put into spam in error.

I understand that it's impossible to completely stop it, but I'm aware of the fact that steps can be taken to give me more privacy. I have already gone through and turned off a bunched of windows settings. My MIC, camera, and anything that says "In order to better SERVE you, by sending such and such of your activity and info to Microsoft." Lol It's all off! I also removed the preinstalled Mcafee security. I've seen many GREAT reviews on windows defender, and I figure I don't need it and don't want the software digging so deep into my files. I also CREATED a whole new OUTLOOK account. I'm downloading Fire Fox as my browser. I was considering Tor, but I don't go surfing the deep web ever and I don't want to. From what I understand, it's not exactly the best choice to shop while using Tor and I do a lot of online shopping. Now, I'm trying to figure out what VPN to go with and how to set it up, but I also read that if I do the settings right on Fire Fox, I won't necessarily need one. Now what? Can anyone help walk me through the set up?

I just finished reformatting my hard drive and reinstalled Windows 2000, but when I go to install the service packs, it knocks Internet Explorer offline. I've already tried the work around in KB 833974. Does anyone else have any ideas on what I can try?

PS - I've already tried installing SP2 and SP3 to see if the problem was specific to SP4, but got the same problem.skibunny5....when you say it knocks explore offline.....Are you on DIALUP or hi-speed. Does it CLOSE your internet CONNECTION or just shut down the connection to the update centre .......still leaving you on line and able the browse?

can not export bookmarks in chrome 49.0 it says the location of the file is in your user directory in the path "AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default." If you want to modify or delete the bookmarks file for some reason, you should exit Google Chrome first can't find or Google Chrome stores bookmark files in the path "/home//.config/google-chrome/Default/" or in "/home//.config/chromium/Default/" depending on which versions of Linux and Chrome you are using. It is best to get at these files from the command line because the "." character in front of "config" in the path indicates that ".config" is a hidden directory can't find.Where are you exporting the books to ? ?
The syntax posted has errors...sure you got it right ? ?Any where just want to keep COPY, when you go to bookmarks in chrome drop down menu only choice is bookmarks manager or import bookmarks and settingsFor the latest version of chrome, Version 77.0.3865.90, I can SEE the following:

clicking on the three dots on upper right shows a menu as seen in this first screenshot which does show only an import option.




However, if you type chrome://bookmarks into the chrome address bar and pressing the ENTER key on your keyboard, all the bookmarks you have are shown in one column.
But there is yet a 2nd three dots thing you can click on top right corner in that blue bar as shown in the following second screenshot indicated with red arrow. (can open image in new tab if you'd like to see it BIGGER).




Then finally, clicking the three dots in the blue bar from second screenshot yields a menu as shown in the third screenshot below which has two options: Import bookmarks and Export bookmarks. Upon clicking the Export bookmarks option, I see a standard save window that let you save your bookmarks wherever you want. An HTML file with your bookmark links will be saved.

Came across some other user's post regarding the old chrome 43.0 but in case 49.0 still has it this way or similar :

Open Chrome and press Ctrl+Shift+O to open the Bookmark Manager. Now click the dropdown arrow beside Organize, select Export bookmarks to HTML file..., and now save the file somewhere you can find and ACCESS later to import, etc..

Despite being CONNECTED to my WIFI, neither of my INTERNET browsers will open any page at all. I always get the message " cannot connect securely to this page, this might be because the site uses outdated or unsafe TLS security settings. If this keeps happening, try contacting the website's owner."

All my other connected devices work (android, xbox, wife's laptop and phone) and spotify is able to play music that is streamed on the computer in question. Only browsers cannot connect for some reason.

I have tried many fixes that I've read on the internet, including uninstalling chrome.

Not sure if this is the right forum to post this in, but here goes...

My question is this: Is it possible to use the STORED data on my browser (cookies, etc.) to see the information that I have sent to a website?

I am using Firefox 70.0.1 (64-bit) on a Mac. I recently WROTE a comment on a Wordpress website and attempted to submit it by clicking the "Post" BUTTON. Unfortunately, the website had for some reason screened my comment as potential spam. I have attached a screenshot of the page it gave me. It urged me to go back and check the details of my post to make sure everything was correct.

Unfortunately, there was no way to go back other than to click the back button on my browser. When I went back, the comment I had written (it took me quite a while to research and type out) was gone. The "Comments" field was simply empty as if I was visiting the site for the first time and was about to write a new comment.

If there were a way to go back through the data that my computer sent to that website when I clicked "Post" and decode it so that I could at least copy and paste the text of my comment and put it somewhere else, that would save me a LOT of time and effort. I appreciate all tips anyone might have!There is no way to retrieve your LOST comment. This is why I compose longer comments, responses, etc, in Notepad before posting.
