Solve : Chrome - Facebook issues?

Answer»

I use Chrome, have had issues with FB for several days now, it will load some posts then all the sudden stop and not load anymore. I might GET 10 or so. I have CLEARED data and RUN the system cleaner and it is still happening. What else can I do?Check your connection speeds...speedtest.net33 is the result?Mbps ? ?
If so speeds are OK....check how full this HDD is.Yes, HDD?Hard DiskHow do I do that?Right clik it in My Computer and select Properties...

It'll show total SPACE and used space...I have 7.9 out of 8 openToo full then...you need to do some housekeeping.
Windows likes approx 10% free space...15% is what you should have...Best of LUCK.

Solve : Browser uninstall?

Answer»

I have Windows 7 and had google chrome as browser, recently I have been getting dozens of pop-ups on the right side of the screen, I decided to change my browser to avast, but am having the same problem so I want to uninstall it but it will not let me, So now I have two problems, how to stop those annoying popups and how to delete Avast, anyone got a solution? Here is a tool provided by Avast to UN install and cleanup Avast Browser https://support.avast.com/en-nz/article/Uninstall-Secure-Browser

If you are getting pop ups in chrome then try running chrome in Incognito MODE as described here https://www.thewindowsclub.com/chrome-incognito-mode-safe

If the pop ups stop then you can either keep running in Incognito Mode. Or you can try resetting chrome to defaults. If still no good it could be a job for SuperDave in the Antivirus forum here .Thank you, Lisa, I uninstalled Avast OK but cannot seem to du the same with avast antivirus as for the popup avast interferes , so it has to go first,To remove Avast antivirus they supply a tool https://www.avast.com/en-nz/uninstall-utility

Note you need to be running Windows in safe mode for it to work.

If you are still getting pop ups then let the guys in the antivirus forum look at for you.

Just a thought that CAME to mind: if you do have a system restore point set before the issues occurred that you're happy with, you can attempt to go backwards and restore that way.
But if nothing works then probably give a shout out to the CH malware forum if you don't want to reinstall windows from scratch. I'm Sorry i miss read this "I uninstalled Avast ok but cannot seem to du the same with avast antivirus as for the popup avast interferes , so it has to go first,"

If you are having problems with avast antivirus you can right click on the avast icon by the clock and select to suspend avast for say 15 minutes. Until it is uninstalled. You can even stop avast till next boot.Thank you all, I have done a system restore which fixed the avast problem but the pop ups are getting worse, I will take the advice given THANKS again.

Solve : IE6 Keeps crashing?

Answer»
when i open IE everything goes smoothly but once i change the browsing window to another like IE or windows explorer or just word, and go back to the first IE it just shows the color of the background of the page i try going to another IE window and it does the same. My word window and explorer window are all perfectly normal.
I tried waiting to see if it would go back to normal but nothing happens. So i have to "end task" with the windows task manager CAUSE it won't close otherwise.

I don't KNOW if these helps but when browsing through the windows task manager i saw a "iexplorer" and "IEXPLORER" one i capitals and one in lowercase. I ended task for the lower case and the other was still running and i didn't have anymore IEwindows open.

Why is there lower and upper case?

Any advice is helpful, and srry for the long essay.

THXone is genuine one is not>http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/iexplorer/TIESTO......I believe the lower case iexplorer is the one you want.

Hope this helps ,

dl65
Wow i was looking at the "WinTasks Process Library" and i saw several risks that i saw in my pc. Man no wonder i always get popups EVEN after using Adaware and Spybot S&D. And my CPU usage was always at 100% even if i didn't have nothing running. But why can't sypbot S&D and ad-aware and other programs find the root of the problem? Cause i know there is still a virus or trojan on my pc but spybot doesn't seem to recognize it cause it doesn't show in the results. I really dislike searchpage.cc/1525/ as my homepage.

THNX for the help. tiesto....What anti virus are you using and is it up to date ? Have you all the latest updates from M/S
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp
Is your Ad-Aware and SpyBot up to date ......they update regularly.

Good Luck

dl65
Well i running Win XP HE and i just checked for updates two days ago from now. I also did the same for Spybot S&D but i uninstalled adware cause i thaught it was useless for me but i was probably wrong. Ohh i'm using zonealarm 4.5 free edition. SO i don't know if because it's a free edition it doesn't protect as good.

SO yeah. I hope this provides more info.

THNX for support.
I also wanted to add that i have a small network of two computers connected to one router which connects to the modem provided by the cable company. And i was wondering if i could of got the infection from the other computer or if i could get infected again since no changes are made to the other computer to disinfect. Or the other way around. In case it was infected.

So yeah srry but i'm kind of cause i'm tired of the dumb homepage that keeps coming back and i'm sure that is the reason why i get some many popups even with the google toolbar and other popup BLOCKERS.

try these http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ and this>http://www.wilderssecurity.net/bhblaster.html and this>www.webroot.com spysweeper and this also www.secretmaker.com or change your browser to firefox or avant.

Solve : Two ways to get to Yahoo Mail one has no spam?

Answer»

I took screenshot of TWO ways to get to yahoo MAIL on smart phone one way it shows spam folder other it does not is this NORMAL?I also use yahoo mail and I normally use the yahoo mail app from the Google Play STORE. That said, I can login to my yahoo mail on Google Chrome browser and I do see the spam folder like you have in your screenshot (the purple side).

However, I'm not familiar with what you're app or browser you've used to login to your yahoo mail account for the screenshot on the right hand side; if you let me know I can certainly try it out on my phone and see what comes up for me.

This seems to be Verizon Yahoo mailQuote from: John1397 on December 17, 2019, 05:50:06 AM

This seems to be Verizon Yahoo mail

The android app from Google Play Store has the Spam, trash, etc. separate from the other folders unlike the mobile browser version of yahoo mail, but it's there.

Solve : I faced a problem?

Answer»

I faced a PROBLEM when i was trying to get an internet receipt from an online shop. instead of my name it was {{orderwizard.ofy}} on the screen instead of my family name it was {{orderwizard.olz}}. instead of production number it was {{orderwizard.oczi}} and so on.
what should i do to fix it? This is a problem with the configuration of the website you are using. There is nothing you can do to fix it. Contact the online retailer directly, try to get the attention of a human, and inform them of the error. Consider ceasing to use the online retailer if their website is not functioning correctly.thanks. and do you MEAN there is no way (for example PRESSING a key or such things) to fix it when i face this problem?About the only thing is to try another browser.

List of web browsers

Google Chrome
Mozilla Firefox
Apple Safari
Mozilla See Monkey
Netscape
Opera
And many others too numerous to mention.

Most likely the website is defective, which has already been mentioned above.
However, there is just a chance that the PEOPLE who wrote the rib site did not check it on the newer browsers. It is just possible that they use the script that only WORKS on one of the lesser-known browsers. But I am just guessing. Still, it would only take a slight effort on your part to try a few other browsers and it shouldn't take much of your time.

He never stated you can fix it with keystrokes...the problem is on their end which you cannot fix...

Is there any way to alter this?gbhy123...usually when you download something ...ie a program your are given the option of either OPEN or SAVE to a disk. If its something you wish to keep select the save to option. Another option would be to use a download manager....ie FLASHGET and with this ...when you download it is directed to a folder called downloaded files.....from there you can do whatever you want with the download.......open it INSTALL it or throw it away if you dont want it.

Hope this helps you .

Lemming (quote)2. My browser will sometimes redirect to random sites when i click on a link (I.E. Porn sites, search engines etc.) (end quote)[/b]
_______________________________________ _________________________________
I have no doubt, for one thing, that your browser has been hijacked (another site is forcing itself to become your homepage and/or is redirecting you to their site). You do not say what your level of computer understanding is, so some of what I say you may already know. Just skip those parts.

My first thought would be to have you go to http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip and download the program HijackThis. Then, close all browser windows, including this one When downloaded, unzip it, click the .exe icon to run the program, then click Save Log at the bottom of the window it leaves. When it finishes, it will leave a notepad window with that log. Highlight ALL of it (it is a long one), copy it (ctrl+c, or Edit>Copy from top toolbar), then come here to this same thread and paste that log. Do not delete anything yet, as much of what HijackThis will find is harmless and needed by your computer.

Someone who is qualified to interpret HJT logs will have a look at it and recommend what to do next. I suspect they will also have you download Spybot and AdAware and run those, too. If you have been hijacked by CoolWebSearch, they will have you d/l CWShredder and run it, too. However, I'm just letting you know some of what to expect. Don't do anything yet....just get the log posted. You probably have a number of things which need correcting, but let's find out what they are, first, so you don't remove the wrong thing.

Best....sierradadThanks due.... heres the log:

Thanks again! Lemmingdownload spysweeper from www.weboot.com or this>>http://www.wilderssecurity.net/bhblaster.htmlLemming, as I suspected, you have a nasty variant of the CoolWebSearch trojan. Unfortunately, I'm not qualified, yet, to interpret HijackThis logs.

Because of the way yours looked, I took the liberty of forwarding your log to a friend who is an expert at HJT logs and internet security. He is not able (time-wise) to join the forum, but has GRACIOUSLY agreed to help you through this (through me...I will send him your replies), and has agreed because you will have to spend some time at this.

It could work the first time through, but he suspects there will be several posts and a lot of action on your part to clear this up. If you follow his instructions, he can get your system cleaned out, and give suggestions on how to KEEP it clean. He goes by the name of "steamwiz," by the way, and is an authority on HijackThis. Here is his reply:

You have the latest CWS variant. There are so many random elements about it and hidden files that the shredder cannot be made to fix it, though many updates have been tried.

This thing mutates on a daily basis......there are so many variants of it, and an equivalent number of fixes.... we have to find which one will work for you.

Try this :-

Download three free programs and install them.

1. Taskinfo
http://www.iarsn.com/taskinfo.html (trial version works for this)

2. Killbox
http://download.broadbandmedic.com/VbStuff/KillBox.zip

3. CWSShredder
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

Open Internet Explorer with the about:blank page.

Then open taskinfo program.

Look for “Internet Explorer” on the left side and highlight it.

On the right side, open the “Modules” tab.

You will see a list of .dll files.

Sort the files by Company.

You should see a few .dll files that don't belong to any company or don’t have any description. In the list should be both the malicious secondary .dll that is generated by the malicious core .dll AND the malicious core dll. Again, they should not have any legitimate company name or description.

Run CWSShredder. It will delete the secondary .dll that is generated by the hidden core .dll and all associated registry entries.

Run Killbox.

In the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste the following:

c:\windows\system32\(whatever your identified core filename is).dll

Note: You will not find the malicious core .dll if you search for it using windows explorer or the file search engine. It is hidden.

IMPORTANT: Click on the Action menu and choose "Delete on Reboot". On the next screen, click on the File menu and choose "Add File". Then it should show up in the window. If that's successful, choose the Action menu and select "Process and Reboot". You'll be prompted to reboot, do so.

After reboot, use the Taskinfo program again to check to see if the identified malicious .dlls are gone. Don’t forget to open Internet Explorer to do this.

Run CWSShredder again and/or updated ADAWARE program to remove remaining garbage.

CWS installs via the byte verifier exploit (Mostly) in M$ JavaVM so just surfing a page with an infected applet can install it with no user participation. So once you’ve run the above, it is vital that you go here, click Scan for updates in the main frame, and download and install all CRITICAL updates recommended

When you are done post a new log

steam

(EDIT) Note that I would recommend you copy and print out these instructions so you have them in front of you as you do this (END EDIT)
Thanx dude..... Ill download those now... i got the instructions! Ill be working on it all tonight! Thanx man! tell ur freind thanks too! Ok ive been through all of the instructions.... And everything seems to be fine... but knowing me and computer =

So once you’ve run the above, it is vital that you go here, click Scan for updates in the main frame, and download and install all CRITICAL updates recommended

Where is HERE?
i couldnt do that one i was a bit confused! sorry...Sorry, Lemming....I forgot that ctrl+C doesn't copy the URL's. The word "here" means Windows Update

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

Make sure you get all the CRITICAL updates....then you've covered that part (they are patches put out by Microsoft to plug up vulnerable "holes" in Windows).

By the way, steamwiz said you are very welcome....he's glad he could help. Within a day, he will review your new log and let you know if there are any remaining little "tidbits" you need to remove manually. Also, I'll post his page about how to KEEP your system clean once it's finished.

Best....sierradadOK, Lemming....here it is. Sorry for the delay, but steam got busy and couldn't get to it right away. Anyway, here's his reply:

Your log's pretty clean now.....just a little tidying up to do....

Close ALL browser windows (including this one) - run hijackthis and tick to fix (check the box next to) the list below.........when all are ticked (checked) click the Fix Checked button at the bottom. :-

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

Reboot

This particular hijacker is mutating daily, and has a habit of coming back after a day or so......but I think you nailed it....keep your fingers crossed for the next couple of days.

steam
Here are steamwiz's suggestions for keeping your system clean:

Contributed by steamwiz (Note that lines in italics are my thoughts...not part of the original article)

There are many ways for someone to hijack your browser. The hijacker could be a .dll file or an .exe file or a .reg file or a combination of any of these. It could be in the ROOT C:/ directory or C:/Windows or C:/Windows/system or just about any other directory. There is no constant...everything is variable. The only certain thing is that it is getting through a security loophole on your computer, be it from security settings or lack of patches/updates.

(1) First thing to do....click tools...Windows update..... and download all critical updates.
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

(2) Second is to download and install Spywareblaster.
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

(3) Third download and install Spywareguard.
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html

These programs take up very little resources and run un-noticed in the background.

(4) Fourth download and install Spybot Search and Destroy
http://www.safer-networking.org/
Always check for updates before running. Click the immunize button..... and while you're there (at this page) you can lock your homepage if you want to. As with an anti-virus program - check for updates at least once a week, with all the above programs.

(5) Fifth download Regprot.
http://www.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=regprot
It's so easy to use, you forget it's there. Once installed it just runs in the background. You'll forget all about it, until a dialer, hijacker, trojan etc, gets through your defences and tries to put a run key etc, in your registry - up pops a box asking if you want to allow the new key. Obviously you say no (make a note of the name and location of the file which is trying to run so that you can delete it) but now you've been alerted to something trying to sneak in behind your back and you can deal with it. If you install new software or some updates from Microsoft and the box pops up - you will ACCEPT the keys.

None of this can guarantee 100% that you won't be hijacked - but it will certainly go a long way.

(6) Make sure you have a firewall (Google search for download sites...free ones are in bold TYPE).

These are popular firewalls:

Agnitum Outpost Firewall PRO
Agnitum Outpost FirewallFREE
Norton Internet Security
Norton Personal Firewall
Kerio Personal Firewall FREE
Tiny Personal Firewall
Sygate Personal Firewall PRO
Sygate Personal Firewall FREE
McAfee Personal Firewall
Black Ice Defender
Zone Alarm Pro
Zone Alarm Firewall FREE

If you like, you may compare them before you decide: http://www.agnitum.com/php_scripts/compare2.php (I use ZoneAlarm free firewall, but that is just my personal choice)

(7) Get anti-virus software.

Here are two good, free A/V programs:

AVG Anti-Virus -- http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php

Avast Anti-Virus -- http://www.avast.com/i_idt_153.html

(I use Avast...I had AVG, but had trouble downloading the updates. They just had too many people using it....if that problem is fixed, it is a good A/V program....they both are)

Thanx sierradad and steamwiz!

But i have another problem... My microsoft update page just sends back an error message saying: Incomplete or somethign every time i do it.....

Whats wrong?Hmmm....that's a new one on me. Here is something you can try. It may fix it, but won't hurt even if it doesn't:

Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. Then, click Internet Explorer once to highlight it and click the Add/Remove button. From the window that opens, choose Repair Internet Explorer, then OK. See if that helps.Nope... internet explorer ISNT even listed there.....

I have windows XP if that helps?

Lemming, I believe we have taken care of the original problem(s) with what you've already done. I'm really thinking this should be a new post, with a new topic thread ("IE Error Message," or something like that). It would help for you to try again, and write down EXACTLY what message you get in the error window, then start the new thread with that (be sure to mention you use XP). There could still be an IE Repair option available in XP....I just don't know where to look for it. Perhaps another member who uses XP will know what you can do. If not, maybe I can "nose around" a few places and see what I can find out. Sorry I can't be of more help, here, but I'm sure there is an answer.

Best....sierradad

Solve : Site Loads in FF, not in Edge or Chrome - My PC Only?

Answer»

I have clean installs of Chrome on my Win 10 PC and my wife's. Both are MSFT Surfaces - hers a 3, mine a 5.

There are some websites that load just fine on Firefox, but time out in EDGE and Chrome - COMES back with "Check Firewall or PROXY". They load just fine in Chrome on my wife's PC.

Clean installs of Chrome in both. All Histories and Cookies have been cleared on mine. This is happening in reg and Incognito modes.

Any suggestions?
Create a NEW user on the system and see if that new user account has the same issues.

I've seen before a corrupt user profile cause weirdness like this with one browser fine and others messed up.

If this solves your problem you can then move to using the new user profile and data will still be accessible to the old profile -or- you can copy it from old to new user data location.Do you mean a new user profile for Chrome? Or for Windows? sorry for long delay in GETTING back to you... meant user profile for windows as sometimes they can get corrupt and mess with browser and system behavior.

Solve : Bing keeps interupting?

Answer»

This may be the wrong topic for browsers but, Bing keeps bothering me when I open Chrome and when my PC WAKES from sleep. It's not a biggie but was just wondering how to stop it from doing so. I've searched several times and nothing suggested seems to WORK. I tried using OPERA and adding some of Chrome's extensions to it but I've been using Chrome for so long, it's hard to change.https://www.minitool.com/news/remove-bing-from-windows-10.htmlI'm pretty sure I've been to that site before and couldn't find any app related to Bing. I ran across one that I was digging through but it was long and drawn out and before I could get to the end I FADED from view. I had only 2 hours sleep the day before (endoscopy at 6AM) and hadn't GOTTEN caught up yet. I'll look at the site you listed to see if I missed anything. Thanks.

Solve : How to Skip All Ads when you browse Internet.?

Answer»

It is not the browser. Google will push worthless advertising almost any content while you are tying to read anything. It is beyond annoying, it is right in your face.
Here is how I stop.
I close the browser,
I do not LOOK at the "why is this Ad here" thing.
I do not answer anything s. I do not click anything.
I just leave.

Will they ever learn? I don't care.

I can always get a n book with the comfort the book will never nag, annoy disturb my peace of mind. You can find books in a place CALLED 'Library' and there is one near you.
You may try this -
Chrome browser setting then scroll down and select Advanced, From Privacy and security scroll down and select Site Settings then scroll down again you will see the Ads tab - Just click and Allow.
If it not work. Then Uninstall the browser from your PC.
After that go to -
1st: C:\Program Files (x86)
2nd: C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\
3ed: C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming
Permanently delete all the Google folder from your PC.
Then go to "Run" by pressing Windows Key+R
Type "%Temp%" and Clear all.
Type "Recent" and clear all.
Type "Tree"
Now, refresh your desktop by right-clicking your MOUSE button.

Now Restart your PC and Install the Browser again.
I think it will solve your problems.gorge441,
Thanks, I will try it. I use a combination of uBlock origin to block most ads, and NoScript to block all Javascript by default, which prevents annoying pop over garbage, not just advertisements but the "How dare you use an adblocker, you are making us cry" CRAP that some sites throw up; Not to mention that most browser exploits take place through Javascript so that's a security measure as well.

I've also got a Raspberry Pi with Pi Hole configured as my DNS server which blocks a good number of advertising domains completely on my entire Home network.

Thanks for this topic. Thanks for the extensions BC, A vid I normally watch that has ads through it has stopped since adding the extensions in my browser that you mentioned. This is more than a malaise, it's a MALPRACTICE beyond measure. I have tried to use ad-blockers, but I dont see the results I would like to see. It's not that they're annoying (which they are) - a lot of times they bring a trojan along with them. smh!

Solve : Internet Explorer in Windows 10??

Answer»

I'm trying to SET up my computer for working at home. I am supposed to use Internet Explorer. At home I virtually always use CHROME. My computer did an update, and seemed to transition to Microsoft Edge. When I tried to download Internet Explorer, I got an error message STATING that it was not compatible with my computer. Is it possible to download Internet Explorer on a Windows 10 operating SYSTEM? If so, what version of Internet Explorer?
Use the search tool on the Task Bar to search for Internet Explorer. It still comes with Windows 10. MS wants you to switch to Edge so they don't make it easy to use IE but they don't make it impossible either. This link may be useful. How to enable/disable internet explorer on windows 10:
https://teckangaroo.com/enable-disable-internet-explorer-windows-10/

But on my computer, I just search for internet explorer USING the search function of start menu and it shows up and I can use it just fine.

Solve : Looking To Leave Mozilla Firefox?

Answer»

Hi there!

Mozilla Firefox has been my primary web BROWSER for over a decade, since way back in grade school! I am looking to switch web browser for a better quality of life

I am leaning towards Google Chrome because a SINGLE thing like translating a whole site in English would be useful to me, I want to ask what would Google Chrome do better than Mozilla Firefox for me?

I always use Android Phones so that would be one less app to download, I was thinking of Microsoft Edge but it does not have the support that Chrome has when you THINK about the add-ons

My primary concerns are, will it be easy to transfer my bookmark folders? Will I be able to transfer saved log-on?

ANYTHING else should I know before I commit?
I would suggest running both side by side while you're deciding....you can import all your settings and BOOKMARKS...

Solve : Re: Is WEP Secure??

Answer»

Wanted to pitch in to share that WPA3 has began to roll out! Some older routers are RECEIVING software updates that allow WPA3 to be enabled (for example, Eero users will see WPA3 settings in the "Eero Labs" portion of their apps, and Google WiFi users will see settings within the Google HOME app. (If you don't see "WiFi" in the Google Home app, the workaround is to unpair one of your WiFi points, then set-it up using the Google Home app rather than within the Google WiFi app.) Newer consumer devices, such as iPhones on iOS 13 and MacBooks on the latest OS are already capable of connecting to WPA3 networks.

A lot of the current WPA3 implementations are actually IMPLEMENTED as WPA3 / 2 transition mode, which is the reason you see scary-sounding articles like, "Serious flaws leave WPA3 vulnerable to hacks that steal Wi-Fi passwords". As more consumer devices become compatible with WPA3, we'll be able to drop the transition mode and encrypt our networks exclusively with WPA3.

I've been testing this for a few months, and there's surprisingly very few devices out there that aren't compatible. Even old-school wireless printers and cheap WiFi enabled lightbulbs and smart switches work FLAWLESSLY with WPA3 transition mode.

Oddly ENOUGH, the Xbox One X does not seem to support WPA3 transition mode at this time, but I wonder if a software update could fix that. Please stop posting in the FAQ section...

Solve : Same Firefox versions, different results?

Answer»

The Past month and a half i had to reinstall Win 7 and of course some programs that i had in the past...Firefox was my default browser. Since then, I would get NOTIFIED of a recent update and would let it do its business. Now, I also have as a SUBSCRIBER to my local newspaper a digital form of it and as a Senior, I am getting to feel more comfortable using the digital form than the paper itself because of failing vision. Before i had to reinstall Firefox, on the previous version i had no problem with it. Since the new installed version i noticed that my version has omitted the 'tools' on how to navigate closeups and etc. I called the company and for an hour got nowhere. They ASKED for my version of FF and it matched their version where they had all the tools displayed. So my question is, with is both having the same versions of FF, why do they SEE icons ( tools ) that I cannot? I DOUBT if this has anything to do with cookies and/or clearing cache to resolve this problem, mainly for the short time i have been using the newer version for a short period.

Solve : Problem with video playback?

Answer»

I've been having issues with video playback on my computer. I first started noticing it on streaming video but now it happens on sites like Youtube as well.

When I'm watching videos, the picture will PAUSE for a SPLIT seconds every few seconds. The audio keeps playing but the video skips. I TRIED deleting cookies from Firefox(my browser) and it didn't work. I also tried openingvideos in Chrome and it had the same problem.

Any ideas how to solve this? So you're talking about a browser issue, not when you are playing video through an app - is that correct?I've only noticed it happening with video in WEB browsers but it happens with multiple browsers so I don't know.I've noticed that this problem is now happening with videos I have OFFLINE. Not sure it's a browser issue any more.

Solve : Can you save all your bookmarks online in the cloud instead of on your computer??

Answer»

My browser is extremely slow and laggy. I have deleted all the temp files and cookies and it's still slow. I have hundreds of bookmarks and I wondered if that could slow it down. If you ask that question on google most people say that it does not slow down your computer or browser. However, one guy said it does slow it down. He said he has hundreds of bookmarks and every so often he exports them as an html file and deletes them all from his browser - and every time he does that it speeds up his browser quite a bit.

I am wondering if there is some way to save your bookmarks online in the cloud instead of in your browser's bookmark folder. If you could save them on a website and you could always stay logged into that website, then you could put a link to your online bookmarks on your bookmarks TOOLBAR. So if you just click the bookmarks button on your toolbar it will take you to that website where it shows all your bookmarks in your browser.

I know there are services that allow you to UPLOAD all your bookmarks and sync them with all your browsers, but that's not what I'm TALKING about. I don't want them in my browser or on my computer slowing down my browser. I just want to access them online from my browser. Is this possible with any of these services? Does anybody know? What browser ? ?I'm not sure why it matters what browser, but I usually use firefox, sometimes chrome. Safari and iCloud will sync your book marks. But I have not used that on a PC. The only way your browser can slow down is if it is trying to DNS cache each book MARK. A lot of browsers do this in the background so when you click the link it's quicker to respond. If you regularly clear your browsing HISTORY you may notice it will be slower. Some browsers will also go off to re-find the favicons so they have pretty icons associated with your bookmarks. I know in Safari you can turn this feature off. The iphone has a similar feature call quick website search and Safari suggestions. Turn them off to avoid preloading

Solve : Yandex Browser?

This is a good BROWSER EXCEPT for one thing. EVERY time a want to add or delete a book mark this MESSAGE appears.

Why do I need to open an account with Yandex in oder for me to add or delete bookmarks?

Yandex is the Russian VERSION of Google. Google makes a profit by knowing what customers want and then targeting adverts. I guess its the same for Yandex. If they can see your saved pages they can target advertising. That makes sense - ThanksAnd i wouldn't agree with it being a good browser...just sayin...

I can the same in the extension list but not beside the search bar. Any way I can make that visible? To make the extensions visible near the search bar, GO in the search bar and type: chrome://flags then you should search for "extensions" and then disable "Extensions Menu". After this, restart chrome and they should APPEAR on the RIGHT SIDE of the search bar again.

Solve : how can i reduce memory usage of FF, its 59%??

Hi,
How can i reduce memory usage of FF, its 59%? That seems hi. Tried access mozillzine form. Logged in ok but could not access sub forums. That's why i'm here.

Save bookmarks. Install new version o f Fire Fox.
Or stop using Fire Fox.First off How Much RAM does this system have? 59% might be NORMAL if 8GB or LESS RAM.

I have noticed with Firefox that the longer the browser is open the larger the RAM consumption is... I personally close Firefox when done with it and relaunch the browser when I need it again. Systems with 8GB or more RAM while Firefox can grow to consuming up to around 4GB RAM there is little impact on the user experience as LONG as the CPU is decent to handle the memory juggle as the browser bloats caching data.

Chrome browser does far BETTER at memory management as well as if its an older computer Chrome will run smoother than Firefox for example I recently installed Windows 10 64-bit to an Athlon 64 x2 1.9Ghz 3600+ CPU system with 6.5GB DDR2 RAM ( 3 x 2GB sticks + 512MB stick ) and Radeon HD5450 1GB Video Card and Firefox has a stutter to the slider bar on all web pages, yet Chrome runs smooth when using the slider bar to scroll up and down on a pages such as facebook.

I recall SEEING it said on another forum that memory usage of Firefox was lower on a flashdrive, meaning a portable version. I cannot attest to it, as I have never used browsers on flashdrives, and ditched Firefox when Mozilla Mothership sabotaged addons en masse, for the crappy web extensions. It couldn't hurt to look into it. Frankly I'd try out the derivatives, but then I've not been a fan of Firefox for many years, so zero user loyalty. Doing a Google search using 'how to reduce firefox memory usage' comes up with a lot, but nothing grabs me.

Solve : New computer can't connect to Youtube and Google services quickly, or not at all?

Answer»
Problem: Loading up video LINKS on Youtube takes way longer than it should; longer than going to any other websites. Loading up the Gmail login page can also sometimes take a while, sometimes not, and I'll sometimes not be able to even log in with the CORRECT credentials, but sometimes it works as well. Happens on Firefox, Edge, and Chrome.

Windows 10 btw

I suspect it's a driver problem but idk. New PC, every part is new. The motherboard is the B550-F ROG gaming board from ASUS. I've installed the chipset drivers for this board on their website and restarted. When I try to install the LAN drivers, all that happens is the internet disconnects for about 10 seconds and comes back on again, so idk if it's actually installed or not. I have another desktop PC (my PC) that's worked on my Verizon Fios network just fine for over a year now. It has none of these issues.
I deleted your other thread - no need to double-post the same issue. If you SEE an ERROR message when you try to log in to youtube.com, the problem is most likely related to one of the following reasons: -You are not connected to the Internet. Check if other sites are loading. -The administrator of your domain has blocked access to YouTube for your account. -Yourtube.com has been blocked by your network administrator or ISP. Check with them what you can do about it. If your computer is running another operating system, this solution may not work for you. Open the system settings and go to ""Applications."" Find the YouTube service in the list, clear the cache and delete the data one by one. You can read more at https://sites.google.com/view/activateyoutub/.

Solve : best free disposable email addressess?

Answer»

Would like to hear from others on this subject. What do you USE, what's your favorite ?Please stop posting in the FAQ section...Hi BellaUSA, check out this list, it's pretty overwhelming https://gist.github.com/adamloving/4401361What do you mean by "disposable"? Just a one-time use, or use for a random period of time and then delete, or what? I just have my main yahoo email, then I can create aliases that I can delete easily.....

Or like SAID before, a create and forget email that kills itself without leaving any trace after some predefined time?Quote from: 2x3i5x on April 11, 2018, 12:37:03 PM

Does Yahoo Mail offer accounts that work that way? Is that what you're saying? Quote from: soybean on April 11, 2018, 01:05:41 PM

No I was just wondering if OP was asking about email services that allows you to create aliases and delete manually OR email services that allow you to create emails and they will delete it for you.

Both serve pretty much the same purpose....Google allows creation of email accounts with alias names in their gmail service. Later, the account can be deleted. Meanwhile she has yet to return...

Perhaps she created a disposable Forum account...I use yandex.com/mail and mail.comIn regards to soybean about google gmail accounts, they require you activate them with a valid confirmed telephone NUMBER. If you want a short use e-mail and don't want a real confirmed phone number associated with the account then this is a problem.

E-mail that I have used for alias gaming accounts to friend my alias accounts to my main to control like 5 different accounts for the same game was thru Juno which still exists and offers free e-mail. *However their password strength on the e-mail do not allow complex passwords, so they have to be something simple like black1973stang or any other letter number combination. None of the [emailprotected]#$%^&*() etc are valid characters to Juno's authentication server, so its not a very secure email service given your constrained to a lesser pool of alpha numeric combinations with the maximum password length, however you don't need to confirm a real phone number against it and that's why I use Juno for my alias accounts because its quick to set up and use bogus names and addresses and no phone number confirmation required.

We have a slew of new Users that are necromancing old TOPICS.... Oops didn't SEE the date... Quote from: soybean on April 11, 2018, 08:19:17 AM

Yes, I think that's what he meant. There are temp mail providers I guess. I have a friend that uses them to verify accounts then discards them.

Solve : Specify browser by which a Win8.1 opens a specific Desktop Shortcut?

Answer»

I have multiple browsers installed and in use for several WEBSITES. Most of the websites, I access via Desktop Shortcuts (Win 8.1).

Unfortunately, my preferred - thus Default - browser BREAKS a few websites due to its high level of privacy protection.

Is there a way to specify which browser is opened for each Desktop Shortcut?

Sorry if my terminology seems antiquated or strange, but I have a large DISPLAY and I've filled it with Shortcuts. I need some to OPEN with Chrome, but it is NEITHER my preferred, nor my default - which, again, features settings that are too strict for a few important websites to open or function properly if they open.

Any ideas?Check out the instructions at this link: https://www.technipages.com/windows-open-website-with-specific-browser

The author of that article says it works for windows 7 and windows 10 but you can try to see if it will work for windows 8.1.

Solve : Limiting Facebook from eating up all system memory on 4GB RAM computer??

Answer»

Was wondering if anyone knew of a WAY to limit system memory to a certain cap for specific or any websites that are open in the browser?

My wife has this strange thing happening where the longer that Facebook is open and navigated it seems to build up with some sort of cached content that it wont unload and so it starts to first eat up system RAM and then the system notices that more memory is needed and so it starts to cause excessive paging and then when the hard drive is running 100% utilization in task manager of Windows 10 Home 64-Bit the system starts to become almost unresponsive as in you can move the mouse pointer around but the browser is now extremely slow to react to telling it to close tabs or anything else including trying to shut down the browser. In addition to this Windows 10 is almost unresponsive to entering TaskMGR in the Search Windows box to launch Task Manager to see how badly its brought the system to its knees.

Ran a hard drive test and its all healthy. ALSO ran Memtest86 to make sure everything is good with that. Also ran Malwarebytes to make sure she didnt have malware hijacking RAM.

Thought it was something to do with Firefox and so I had her try out Edge, but Edge has the same issue. I then tried Chrome and Chrome had the same issue. Gave up trying to find a browser that Facebook wouldnt suck every last drop of system RAM through. However if there is a browser that has an ability to memory cap a website or tab I'd be willing to try that.

The computer is a Core 2 Duo 3.0Ghz HP SFF with 4GB RAM and unfortunately it cant take an upgrade to any more than 4GB.

I have tried all sorts of things like disabling the Superfetch of Windows 10 so that it doesnt try to cache stuff and this is no help.

The page file is Windows managed size and it gets huge. I havent set it to like 6GB maximum or anything like that as for I dont see that as a solution.

I could upgrade her from a HDD to a SSD but this would just mean that that poor SSD would get BATTERED with excessive read/writes so i havent gone this route.

I looked online for a way to cap Facebook to only being able to use like 1GB of RAM and havent found a way to cap it. Also went on a search to see if I can set a maximum amount of memory per tab but also didnt seem to find anything.

Currently i have told my wife that when she is done with Facebook to exit it and this seems to work, but she is like your the IT Guru come up with a solution so that I dont have to close Facebook.

Additional Information is that this HP SFF computer I gave her as an emergency replacement because she blew the power supply in her original full tower. I have a power supply on order for that and when that arrives I hope to eventually get her back onto her Quadcore system, however her Quadcore computer has a SSD and only 4GB RAM and so this Facebook issue on this s computer with 4GB RAM may have pointed out that the SSD in her other system may have been getting hit heavily with excessive Read/Write conditions but because the SSD is so much faster than a HDD it doesnt cause lag I am guessing.

The solution might be to throw more system RAM at the problem, however I have read about others online complaining about how Facebook grows and one guy with 32GB RAM claimed that Facebook grew to consuming 16GB of the 32GB RAM and he was looking for a solution to it.

Lots of finger pointing at Facebook for making sloppy code that doesnt unload old content and allowing it to build and build.

Myself I dont use Facebook long enough to have this problem. I get on and check it out and then when done I exit it and the RAM is given back to the system again, but also my computer has 8GB RAM.

Figured I'd post this here to see if anyone knew of any solutions that i could try to see if I can force facebook to lesser RAM. Only method I came up with is to run facebook within a virtual machine where the virtual machine can only grow to the memory allocation that the virtual machine was set up to, but a system with 4GB RAM doesnt have much breathing room to host 2 copies of Windows 10 at the same time because your then looking at like 2GB for Physical PC and 2GB for Virtual PC to which performance would take a hit, as well as this system is just a Core 2 Duo 8000 series 3.0Ghz and so it would be balanced at 1 core per OS and that too isnt going to work out that great.

It would be cool if there was a addon for Firefox or something to force a memory cap to tabs or websites, but i havent found anything yet. Hey Dave, could you find the solution?

I'm trying to solve the same thing on my girlfriend's new notebook It seems this is a common problem. My computer does the same thing. Im looking for a solution to it as well.

Good luck.
ImnoGuruSorry that I dont have any helpful info to report back on this.

The computer with the 4GB RAM was replaced with one with 8GB and Windows 10 and the solution seems to be just exiting Facebook and closing the browser when not in use. Both Firefox and Chrome seem to grow if left open. And so closing them and opening them when you need them seems to be the solution to not having a browser consuming lots of RAM and Paging memory.

Solve : Firefox ... how to create white list or another way to content block?

Answer»

So its been quite a few years since I had to content block on a computer. I am setting up a computer for my girlfriends daughter who is 7 to do remote learning and she wants her daughter to only be able to get to 3 learning websites.

I tried a couple addons and they dont block ACCESS to an adult site.

Looked on GOOGLE on how to White List in Firefox and the directions they have there dont seem to apply to the latest Firefox 81.0.1

Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to lock the browser down to just 3 websites and everything ELSE wont work.

Maybe I need to avoid Firefox and use a different browser that has this FEATURE?This works.

Solve : Lost bookmarks & passwords from Firefox?

Answer»

Thank you for looking at my problem.

My laptop went feral & lost all the bookmarks & passwords from Firefox.

I tried a system restore but they were mostly GONE also with just recent system points for a day or so before the loss.

Ive tried an old ( really old ) external drive with a json file but those bookmarks are totally jurasic.

Can someone suggest how I might be able to recover my bookmarks.. and my passwords would be a good additive. ( Actually its probably a good thing they died so now I can delete a lot of the crappy stuff/websites I hardly use anymore. )

I think it may have been a Firefox update or a Windows 10 update that killed it ( most likely )
I didnt sync firefox to any other devices or send it to the cloud or Google. These were strickly on my laptop.

This computer is running Windows 10 Home, has 4 gig ram and is a 64bit intel i5 [emailprotected]

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you ImnoGuru. Click the Bookmarks button. ...Show all Bookmarks
At the top of the Library window, click on Import and Backup and select Restore.
Click the date of the bookmark backup you want to recover.
In the new window that appears, click OK.
Your bookmarks from the selected date should now be restored. This happened to me the other day, so it's probably a Firefox update that's done it. My back ups didn't show in the back up and restore option. So I went to User>Appdata>Roaming>Mozilla>Firefox>Profiles and in there you should hopefully find profiles and bookmark backups which you can possibly copy and past into a new or most recent firefox profile. And although it's after the fact you should consider MozBack...STILL Free i believe. Thanks for the REPLIES friends.
kburra, I did try that but there was only the previous DAYS information it that. So that method for me didnt work.
Steve M, sounds like there is a chance?? that might work. I'll try that next.
Patio thanks also. Everybody does love something for free . As you say... it is after the fact. A shame Im so familiar to making constant backups that suddenly they disappear. I do think that the recent update could have been the problem?? but this laptop is RATHER old. Maybe a mechanical/electrical failure is immanent. .

Maybe something less DIGITAL is a solution. Im sure people might remember pens & paper for safeguarding information.
Cheers ImnoGuru.
