Solve : Chrome freezing upon waking from sleep?

My PC has started freezing after being woken from sleep and I can't seem to find the right solution to fix this. By frozen, I mean the page can't be scrolled by using the mouse wheel. I can close the browser and OPEN another page or the same page (site) and everything is normal again.1) Is the computer freezing or is it just the browser? If just the browser, is it all browsers or just whichever one you use as your default?

2) Does the same thing happen if you don't use sleep?I've been using the same browser for years and is my default. I'm ALMOST sure if I don't use sleep, it won't happen, the thing is, it happens when it wakes from sleep which it never has happened before.Please answer my questions.Question (1) I haven't checked it on other browsers because I don't like other browsers. I use Chrome BTW.
Question (2) Not a good question. If I don't use sleep, it wouldn't freeze when awoken from sleeping ... because then it wouldn't be sleeping. Question1 - Is the computer freezing or just the browser?

And for troubleshooting purposes you MUST try a different browser to see if the PROBLEM is just with Chrome or is system-wide.
The computer isn't freezing. For example, if there is a clickable address (site) it will call it up but it won't scroll down the page or even refresh the page properly. If I close out the page and call it up again everything is back to normal. I will try it with another browser to test whether it does the same thing.

OK, I let the computer go to sleep in Firefox and it didn't freeze.Then it would appear the problem is with Chrome. You can try uninstalling it, rebooting, and reinstalling to see if that fixes the problem.

And in the future, a better topic might be less confusing A better topic? Did I not make myself clear enough to what my problem is? I know sometimes I don't describe things in-depth enough or should I have stated my problem in the browser section?

My main computer is a Dell laptop that I've had for a few years and it runs Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and has 8GB of RAM. It is model N7110 (I think).

A few days ago, my browser (Google Chrome) updated by itself somehow, even though I always have automatic updates turned off and did not initiate any updating with regards to that program, and it added some kind of button or something to the toolbar on the right side that I didn't want there and so I found out on Google search engine a way that the feature could be disabled and so I did that but after selecting to disable it, I did not close and restart the browser because I was still reading some articles and such and did not want to close them out so I figured I'd just restart the browser another time and so the feature remained there even though I had checked the box to disable it.
A few hours later, I was trying to transfer some photos from my tablet computer and had two folders open and my browser was still also open, as well as an MP3 playing on VLC Media Player and then the folders "stopped responding" after I tried dragging the photo files from the folder where they were on my tablet onto a folder on an external hard drive that was plugged into the USB PORT at that time. On occasion, dragging files from one folder to another seemed to trigger a "stopped responding" error with the folders and then they won't close out and I'm forced to try to shut them by using the Windows Task MANAGER. I tried doing that and then eventually the screen froze and everything stopped responding and so I had to shut the computer down by the power button. I've done that in the past and usually the computer works like normal when I reboot but I MAY be asked to go through Disk Check first.

I don't recall now exactly what happened but basically once I rebooted the computer, I tried resuming what I had been doing but then found that the computer would "stop responding" and freeze and the whole screen and mouse pointer would freeze and so I'd have to shut it down by the power button. I didn't understand what was going on but eventually I figured out that VLC Media Player and Google Chrome browser would no longer launch and if I tried to open them, they'd just immediately stop responding and then the whole computer would freeze up. I uninstalled the VLC Media Player and downloaded and installed the most recent version from their website. It launches and plays fine. However, I can not uninstall Google Chrome. I went into "Control Panel"/"Programs and Features" and selected the "uninstall" button and instead of beginning to uninstall the program, the computer started running really slowly and then every folder or program that was open "stopped responding" and froze and I had to shut down by the power button after trying to shut down the non-responding programs with Windows Task Manager and having even that freeze up. I think these problems all began with that unwanted update by Google Chrome and now the browser won't function and I can't even uninstall it. I have been trying to USE Vivaldi browser on that computer for the past couple of days but I really don't like the style of it as COMPARED with Google Chrome and it is much slower too. I'd rather use Chrome but can't get the issues on that laptop sorted so that I can use it without stuff "stop responding" eventually.

According to the "Programs and Features" menu, the computer has Google Chrome version 89.0.4389.114 installed and that says it was installed on April 2, 2021. However, I did not install my browser on that date and actually have been using it a few years on that laptop and did not recently install any new version. In Windows program folder there was folders as if there are two different versions of Chrome installed. The other folder seems to be for version 89.0.4389.90 of Chrome.

Sorry for the length but I wanted to include as much details as I could to help understand the issues.

New to this NICELY laid out forum. Mozilla did it again: disabled W10 back arrow?? I'm not a typist & I'm 81 so my short term memory is a "little" dim. Most of my work as an Info. Mgr. is to search for info, then create an ACTIONABLE solution to a regular, or BUSINESS problem. So use of the back arrow is important to me & my customers. Any thing else a waste of time my ARMY & Corp. experience in over a dz distinct markets. Ive been trained in th K.I.S.S. principle because it PRODUCES results.

Q: How can I get the FF v84 on W10 BACK ARROW working like has done since the 80's. I did find a simple program that eliminated the annoying Update Firefox popup that appeared in the upper right of your screen; however Moz found a way to block it. Maybe there is one SOLVING the back arrow problem?

PS: Your light blue preview button did'nt work for me.

Hi,

I am having a problem loading web pages and would appreciate any advice about what the problem is.

For example, I typed www.yahoo.co.uk into the URL in chrome. The page TOOK several minutes to appear.
I then looked in the Network tab of the DEVELOPER Tools.
The links to the following urls have long queueing and waiting times.

For example, one of the geo.yahoo.com requests is queued for 8s and then waiting for 10s (see attached snip).

Solve : Loading pages on google.?

Still in trouble, I use Google on my laptop and have an icon top left of the screen. When I open the CP I get a blank white page, after a few seconds the BBC or a Microsoft page appears. (I needed Google so I can check my mail). Now I drag the page down to uncover my google icon, then I click on the icon, the google page comes up, I then close the other page. I am now in business. The question is why do I have to do all this just to open google, it has only recently started playing up, any advice appreciated. You need to go into the preferences in your browser and set the website you want as your homepage, in your case Google.
You did not say which browser you are using, is it Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox or a different one?

Solve : How to solve “Chrome Did Not Shut Down Correctly” error in Chrome??

When I open chrome after it crashes, it shows the “Chrome Did Not Shut Down CORRECTLYERROR. After I click on the “restore pages” option, chrome does not bring back the earlier opened pages. I do not know what triggers this error. Any help will be appreciated.

I searched SO before asking this potentially vague question, found many references to 'modern browsers', but no definitions. Since this is a term very widely used and referenced, I was surprised that I couldn't find a definition or even a description on the Internet.

So, what, in June 2018, is considered a modern browser? And what is a modern browser in general, is it only the current major version of each popular browser (i.e. Chrome, Safari, FF, IE, Opera) ?I think a modern browser is one that supports multiple tabs. Very interesting. Could you provide an example of a browser that does not have tabs?I am assuming your question relates to what is known as "tabbed browsing" and I believe that Microsoft didn't start using tabbed browsing until IE6 or IE7, but I am not sure my brain is properly remembering that, so forgive me if I am wrong.

Now this browser stuff goes back quite a few years and I am again not sure about my memory, but I think one of our ISOC founders was involved in the start of a tabbed browser back in maybe the 80s or 90s, but I am not sure.

As for the general question related to defining a modern browser --- that's tough. To me everything about the Net is modern because I remember computers that took up whole rooms and needed lots of air-conditioning and that was in the late 60s when I was at school and my school at that time had some of the best computers in the world.

I still have a few TRS80s, "Trash80s" we called them, and that is still modern to me. Maybe I can think of a true floppy disc as not "modern" any longer. I MEAN, the real floppy disc that could be bent. I still have a whole bunch of those, some not even out of the wrapper. But my TRS80s use those and I have quite a collection of all sorts of stuff on about 100 floppy DISCS. I think I can move those out of the description of "modern". But I still can't move that actual TRS80 unit out of the thinking that it is "modern" because I remember when they first came out and they were so small and so great, at that time.

Now browsers these DAYS worry me, because I fear that all the hype about security is covering up the key point, commercialization. I suspect recent browsers are MAINLY so companies can do a better JOB of making money.

Sure there is security mixed into that, but I wonder how important the "making money" part of browser upgrade is, compared to the security? Maybe some day I can hire some people to do a proper study on that subject. Something like a percentage thing of 50% of the upgrade is for security and 50% is for commercialization. Some sort of way to easily understand what's going on.

A modern browser? What a difficult question? Especially for an old fart like me.

Greetings! Long time no see. I have a desktop running Win7Pro, with both IE and Edge browsers. When I open Edge, I see IE open up and run underneath/in background. Both IE and Edge have been updated as recently as possible (with IE, it's kinda MOOT, EH?) Can I safely delete/uninstall IE so that only Edge RUNS? With two browsers running simultaneously, it bogs down. I noticed on my Win10 laptop that only Edge is installed, no sign of IE. If this has been answered elsewhere, please include link to that thread. I only looked back SEVEN pages in this section...

hi i was wondering how could i MAKE downloads go faster. Right now my download from megaupload is going at 83.3kb but before it used to go at like 400kb. I noticed that when i download stuff now i can still go on to sites pretty fast but when it downloaded at like 400kb my browser sites would load slow. i was wondering if there was ANYWAY to change it so my download get full priority.Ok, since no one has answered, here is one.

Speed test servers are dedicated to do just that - speed test. It's like having almost perfect download enviroment.
When you try to download some real file, the speed depends on quality of servers, quality of your connection, time of the day, how many users are accessing that file, etc.
What type of connection do you have, and what is your ISP advertised speed?
Post also a link to some download, and we'll see, if we're getting SIMILAR download speeds.I have a 3mb connection or at least that is what my internet provider says i have. its kinda weird right now i am downloading at 380kb but i want to know why it keeps changing. Your browser reports speeds in KB/s, the speed tests here at BroadBandreports.com report speeds in kbps.

1 kbps = 1000 bps

Take KB/s and multiply by 8.192
Example
100KB/s = 819.2kbps

Your browser reports speeds in KB/s, so if you see 500KB in your browser your speed is 4096kbps or 4.096Mbps.

The dslr speed tests report speeds in kbps, so if you see 5000kbps, that's equivalent to 610.5KB/s in your browser.

it mostly depends on the site, some sites limit their download speed pretty low,...you could download two files at the same time, first one file to know the speed for download 1 file. wait a minute download a second file just to see if the speed splits, if your first download was running at 80kbps for 1 minute and then when you downloaded the second and the speed splits so the files run at 40kbps then your connection speed has decreased and you should call your internet company dudes... but if not then 80kbps must be the site download speed limit, or it could be that you have limited the max download speed for your computer and theres no DOUBT there is such a function SOMEWHERE, ....

Hello: I use Firefox and have the Zotero addon, which is used for researching articles. It takes screen shots, and also records a list of references, the names of the author, and any notes that I want to keep about what I've read. I have done a lot of research and have recorded it in Zotero. It's all on my laptop and I'd like to transfer it to my PC. Is this possible?

Dr .D.Try going to your program file folder on your HD (i.e. C:\Programs)... And go to the Firefox folder.

Can you find a folder called "Zoreto"? If you can, copy it the folder to a flash drive/blank CD, and then copy it to the same folder on the other PC.

Now download the addon for Firefox (on the second PC), and all the info should be there...In the past, I just copied the entire Firefox Folder:
C:\documents and settings\username\Application Data\FirefoxThank you gentlemen. I will try that. I'm wrenching my laptop away from my son tonight and I'll give it a go. I will definitely keep you posted as to whether it worked or not. Thanks so much for all the help.

Dr. d.Whew! I did it! I didn't/couldn't do it the way you said, so I did it "the hard way." That is, I went to the Zotero program on my old laptop, clicked the little wheel that says "Actions" and chose, Export Library. A whole BUNCH of files were exported to a file on my laptop. I copied that onto an external memory chip and plugged the chip into my new PC. For some reason, I couldn't copy it, I kept getting messages while it was copying so we gave up on that. Instead, I used the chip and read all the folders, about a hundred of them probably, each referring to one of the references. Inside each folder was one file with a firefox emblem, excuse me, icon. That was the key file. I clicked on that and the reference I wanted popped up in my new computer in the Zotero section. Then, I saved it to Zotero, just as if I had taken it from the internet or something, took a "Zotero picture", and then went onto the same file. It took about an hour, and I'm sure there is a BETTER way out there somewhere, but anyway, this did work.
So, thanks for being there and giving all the support along the way. I'm still trying to figure out how to get my .wab file from my old compie onto the new one, but that's on another thread somewhere, I think!

I've been doing quite a lot of searching, but nothing yet.

I have Vista Home Basic x64 and Firefox 3.02 for about two months. During that time, I've installed two of the more important plugins manually, Shockwave Flash and the Windows Media Player plug-in.

As far as the Shockwave Flash, I've always had a question about it First, Is it the same thing as Adobe Flash? According to the FAQ on http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/faqs/flash.html, it is not. It specifically states that "Shockwave Player does not include Flash support. You will need to install Flash Player separately".

So now I'm a little confused! My initial Flash install was for Internet Explorer 7. That was before I had a chance to install Firefox. During that installation, it installed all of its files in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash.

Inside Flash are all kinds of files, INCLUDING two that you can update, FlashUtil9f, which according to http://kb.mozillazine.org/Flash is for Shockwave Player and NPSWF32_FlashUtil, which is actually an exe. I'm assuming NPSWF32_FlashUtil may be for Shockwave Player too.

I've updated FlashUtil9f before, but can't remember if I've ever updated NPSWF32_FlashUtil. I've also never been sure that any of these files or the updates you get from them have anything to do with Firefox.

Anyway, after I installed Firefox, I received that drop-down message about installing the missing Flash plug-in. Then when I clicked "install plugin" it said that the install was unsuccessful an that I would have to install it manually. But before I did, I did some searches about Firefox and Adobe Flash. Much of what I found told me that people were having all kinds of problems.

Now as I write this, I can't even remember how I ended up getting Flash installed on Firefox. Seems there's all kinds of methods listed. One of which is to go the the Firefox add-ons page where an Adobe Flash Player is listed. However when you CLICK on Download Now, all it does is take you to the Adobe Flash install page: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash.

Once there, when you click "Agree and Install now" it downloads an .exe. Now I can't remember if I ever ended up running that or not. I must have, because Shockwave Flash is now in my Firefox add-ons plugins. And everything works fine too. I can watch YouTube and all with no problems.
But there are files for Shockwave in my Firefox plugins folder!

That's why I'm trying to get to the bottom of the different ways listed to supposedly get Flash to work on Firefox. One site says all you really have to do is download NPSWF32.dll and put it in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Firefox\plugins folder. However I've also read where if you do that, you'll then have two Shockwave Flash's in add-ons.

One more thing. I've learned that Flash 9.0.r28 and earlier versions of the Flash plugin installer copied two files to the installation directory of Firefox. NPSWF32.dll to the plugins folder and flashplayer.xpt to the components folder. But I guess newer versions don't do that.

All I know is that I currently have no Flash files in my C:\Program Files (x86)\Firefox\plugins or components folder. But I guess that's ok, because everything works.But, in your opinion, should I at least have NPSWF32.dll in my plugins folder? Would it make any difference, performance-wise?

Let me quickly list what I have in my Firefox add-on Plugins: BitTorrent, DNA Plugin, Java Platform SE, Microsoft Office 2003 for NETSCAPE Navigator, Microsoft DRM Netscape Network Object, Microsoft DRM Store Netscape Plugin, Mozilla Default Plugin, Shockwave Flash Version 9.0r.124 and Windows Media Player Plugin.

Now do I really need all of these? First of all, Microsoft Office 2003 for Netscape Navigator, Microsoft DRM Netscape Network Object, Microsoft DRM Store Netscape Plugin and Mozilla Default Plugin, all installed by themselves. I was never asked if I wanted them or not. Currently I have all of those disabled until I find out more about them. I look foward to your suggestions on those.

Finally, and I'm sorry this has been so long a post, I went to a site the other day, http://www.mgoblue.com/home/ and up popped a drop-down that said "Additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page". So I clicked on "Install Missing Plugins" and up popped the "Plugin Finder Service". It said, "No suitable plugins were found" "Unknown Plugin (text/html)" This has also happened on one other site for me.

So now I'm thinking, "What the heck is this? I thought I had all of the plugins I need?"
And I don't know if it was asking for the Real Player or Quicktime Player or not. I would think it would let you know if it would. So any ideas on this one? It's a mystery to me! I did some searches on this and apparently found that quite a few people have run into this, THOUGH I found no solution for it.

They're not the same, however I only have the Shockwave Flash Plugin here, and everything is fine. No problems at all.

For me, the plugins folder just has one DLL file called npnul32.dll.

If you're wondering how they got there, they were most likely installed when you installed MS Office.
I know that, if you install Skype, it will also install a Skype Add-On.

BIGDOGESPINOZAI don't see anything malicious. You have quiet a few startups, but I don't think their number is so high to explain your computer slowness, and occasional booting problem.

I am looking for a spell check utility for IE7 that works like the MS Word Spell Check by underlining or flagging incorrectly SPELT words, preferably one that you can even right click the word to fix it.

(Right now I am using Google Toolbar, but its not extremely convenient) Here Ya Go...Yeah, that one works, but unfortunately, it doesent flag the words. (I have it anyways)

The latest Firefox browser has a built in spell checker.It does indeed (v2.0 and above)
You can even install more dictionaries for different languages via the extensions section on the Mozilla site.
For example, I have the EN-GB dictionary instead of EN-US.

Yes, I found this change annoying too. You can either use Shift-Alt+S to submit or you can change it back to how it was using about:config
Change:
ui.key.chromeAccess to 5
ui.key.contentAccess to 4

Hi everyone,

I'm not sure exactly what is WRONG. I THINK it may have SOMETHING to do with Flashplayer, but there's a good chance it's something else. On the Youtube player the red duration meter EXTENDS across the entire player, covering the "play" button and the volume slider. It is the bright "fully loaded" red. I have no idea what caused this. The bizarre thing, however, is that a similar issue began around the same time which has nothing to do with the internet. When I enter my login password (for XP), the characters began being displayed as vertical lines instead of circles. This in itself doesn't bother me, but it is strange. Also, certain windows don't display text on buttons. For example, in the box that I enter my password in to access my external hard drive, the buttons which say "hint" and "enter" are blank.

These issues all began around (exactly?) the same time, so I think they are related, but that the problem is manifesting itself in such different ways is confounding me.

Hi and thanks for taking a look at my question.

I used to be able to use a keyword analytic on Google but cant seem to find it any more. I know they are continually updating so maybe it is GONE now.

To describe it then, I would type in a word and in the left hand column/banner there were several additional items you could choose from such as pictures, videos, maps and so on.

One of them was a keyword analyser that came up with, what looked like a central circle (with my search word) then several satellite circles surrounding it with suggestions relative to my search.
I forget what it was called.

Can someone please tell me if that sort of analytics, spider, micro niche finder, pagerank, SEO or search method is still available?

Wiki has a section on pagerank that is close, but no cigar, here.

The tool was a helper to let you know about your keyword/s. It gave a main circle with your keyword, then around it they gave several circles and each circle would have its own subdirectory of keyword suggestions again with lines connecting to another group of keyword circles with similar words. Misspelt words sometimes would also appear occasionally. After three or so you were so far away from the word you started with. The bigger the writing inside the circle the more popular the word or the more that word was searched for (and I'm pretty certain it was google).

Thanks too for your suggestion soybean. That is mainly for pay per click keywords.
I think that is mainly for advertisers that want to know words that will maximize their return by choosing a more popular word that people will search for, more often.

I went through a few older drives looking for the links that I used to use back then and the one link I was most positive was the one, now gets redirected to adwords, as linked by soybean.

As I said, it was a couple of years ago I used it, so it seems as with everything else, it has been replaced with a new updated model.

Adwords pages now show on the right hand side a column with related terms and a counter that has
"The number 100 represents the peak search interest" for related terms, instead of 254,978 searches for this word.
Lets say, search for "dishwasher" @ 100 then the sub menu is now 90, 80, 60, so on. Clicking on related terms gives me, "Best dishwasher" or "Bosch dishwasher" etc., clicking on one of those, takes me to that search term.
So it seems they have taken out the pretty coloured circles and replaced it with a flat line graph that I can hover over to find how many searches were for that term.

The more I use adwords, the more I am committed to that being what I used to use. ( not as pretty but functional I suppose).

Since avant doesn't even register on the charts of any browser usage statistics sources I've seen, I think you will have difficulty getting help with it. If she watches Netflix, Youtube, and other videos elsewhere and everything is fine. If she watches her favorite shows on Free Hulu the shows play perfectly fine but every commercial break the videos play for 2 seconds and sound and video stops for a second and play again over and over again for the entire duration of the commercial which can't be bypassed.

I installed FireFox and the problem went away with FireFox. BUT ... my wife doesnt like FireFox and insists she wants to stick with Internet EXPLORER so she is complaining to me to fix it.

I personally did away with IE a long time ago in favor of FireFox. The only time I use IE is at work and sometimes I have programs that make calls to the browser etc. But she wants it fixed and I cant find any problems with the IE browser on her system.

I installed a CPU/Memory monitor gadget to her Windows 7 desktop to watch the resources while this is happening. CPU 2 cores average around 60%, and there is 900MB RAM free, so its not starving for CPU or RAM. I already know that I have plenty of bandwidth, but performed a speed test from her computer to www.speedtest.net and it was nice and fast 20mbps download/ 12mbps upload.

Also made sure I had all the plugins for FLASH etc through www.adobe.com and all is up to date, as well as all MS updates are up to date.

Anyone know of anything I may have missed? Maybe a configuration band aid that I am unaware of for IE10 etc?

Really wish she would just switch to Firefox and make the fix easy since its just 1 site ( Free Hulu ) having this issue and only during commercials, and on FireFox its fine. I told her that if she has to have IE, she can use IE for everything ELSE, but just use Firefox for Hulu and she is not happy with that...

Whenever I switch to a new web site, it GETS stuck with "1 item remaining". In the left BOTTOM corner it will countdown as it opens all the components of that web page screen, and it shows "__ ITEMS remaining" and when it gets to "0" you can then work with the page, but not until it gets to 0. SOMETIME it just takes a long time for the last "1" to open and sometimes it gets stuck on "1" and never changes to 0. Why? How do I fix this?

Hello and thank you for looking at my problem.

I recently cleaned out a problem from my computer here, and now I have a bit of time to sit and play with it.

I think that Adwcleaner sees some things as problems that actually are not, but it does take out the nasties.
My opening page to Ebay now had lots of ads being thrust upon me. (At first I thought it was just Ebay. They are constantly changing s^*t. )

So when I did sit down to it, I thought I might have to go into the F/F Options, to fix a few of the things that got deleted during the repair process. Which I did. (Im using F/F 21. on Win Xp Pro SP 3, on my tower. It has a Pentium 4, 3 Ghz with 2 Gig of Ram.)

And that is where it all went wrong.

There was a list of websites that had exemptions and I didn't know what the websites were.
So in my prudence of cleaning up, I deleted them.

The result was no better..... in fact worse

So I tried to restore it to an earlier time. Picked the recent one and reset. No joy.
I tried a restore point 2 days earlier and still no joy.

I took a picture of my opening page here that has the top banner in its correct position but the lower half (body) has moved 3/4 of the page to the right.

I dont know how THAT happened, nor do I know how I might fix it.

Any suggestions you might have would be most helpful.

Thank you Allan for your reply, and I AGREE with you. It was a matter of frustration after curing a problem, but what do I title something like this?
I cured the other problem but this seems at best, to be a display issue? But not a Windows display issue, maybe a Firefox issue? (There is after all only one site in contention, all other sites seem to be OK)

Is there a way that I can reset the (maybe) display, back to a default setting? I tried a system restore, after I deleted websites that I was not familiar with, in "Options" "Allowed sites, Pop ups" but that didn't do it? It seems that deleting the sites I wasn't familiar with, was the cause of this.

Well i woke up this AM and found i can not get on the net with IE version 7. I did notice it said your computer was recently updated in the little BUBBLE down on the right. I have SP2 and Windows XP. I tried GETTING on my ares P2P program and it connected and was able to test download something. I pinged yahoo and got a reply. Thanks so much for your time - JTok i think i have it fixed, what i did was i deleted the Hot fix for IE 7 (KB947864) Restarted computer and instant internet again. Thanks for helping me out - JTGood Work...it wasn't in the list though. i know for some reason i only listed the XP updates didnt see the IE ones. Now the computer wants to keep DOWNLOADING this update. So i had to put it on manual update - JT

I deleted bookmarks in firefox, how do I get it back?How did you delete them ? ?
The normal path for the file is Docs and Settings/User Name/Application Data/Mozilla/FireFox/Profiles/ and then clik on the profile for the bookmarks.html file....

HOPEFULLY it's still there.
There's a handy little utility called MozBack that you can use to backup your profile from time to time...backs up profile;bookmarks; themes and extensions.

Hopefully you can recover what you lost. I sometimes export bookmark and import to internet explorer. That way, if all is lost, internet explorer is a temporary firefox until the REAL thing gets fixed for me.

These must be backups you created...i don't think it is normal Firefox behaviour.
I show none in mine...I've got a folder called bookmarkbackups as well with 5 backups of bookmarks.html, and I haven't created it or the files myself.

It is just very curious that yours is not making the five automatic backups of that file.


Side NOTE: I use SyncBack to make a back up copy to another drive. With Firefox making the automatic five backups, with different file names, it is a bit of a pain in the *censored*. As time goes by, I'd have a LOT of bookmark files saved by Syncback.

I use SyncBack, not MozBack. You are just the opposite.

MozBack is designed to work with Firefox.

What are the chances that MozBack is handling this for you? in that MozBack, after it makes a backup copy for you, erases the extra copies made by Firefox? Perhaps as a way to prevent what I'm experiencing.... having to manually get rid of the extra copies.
What do you think?

You may be on to something...on a side note i also use SyncBack as well but only manually.....Probably in my Top Ten list of best Freeware !

Do you use Adblock Plus? Do you have problems with images on Google only?Opening FireFox in Safe Made didn't work. I can see images in Yahoo's image search.

Solve : IE7 Cookie problem with Hotmail?

A friend has asked me for some help.

It's not really a major problem just more of an annoyance.

Everytime he OPENS Hotmail he GETS a MESSAGE telling him that cookies need to be enabled.

If he clicks on his inbox the message goes AWAY and he gets into his inbox.

He's just a bit annoyed about having to do that click when he should be going straight in.

I looked at his cookies and they are already enabled. Security is set at medium.

He is running Windows XP Home with IE7

I've done a couple of searches but haven't FOUND an answer.

Anyone got any ideas?

Solve : Blank page/Different language??

For about a week now I have been trying to get to Blogspot.com. Whenever I type in the URL, it just takes me to a blank white page with a different language all over it. Same thing with blogger.com (they are the same website). Even when I try to click on it from google etc. I get the same weird page. It is getting really frustrating as this is the ONLY website this is happening to. Here is what I get....

1. Download SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users:
http://www.superantispyware.com/

* Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
* An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
* If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here: http://www.superantispyware.com/definitions.html.)
* Close SUPERAntiSpyware.

Restart computer in Safe Mode.
To enter Safe Mode, restart computer, and keep tapping F8 key, until menu appears; select Safe Mode; you'll see "Safe Mode" in all four corners of your screen

* Open SUPERAntiSpyware.
* Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button.
* Click the Scanning Control tab.
* Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
o Close browsers before scanning.
o Scan for tracking cookies.
o Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
* Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen.
* Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
* On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
* On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.
* Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
* After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
* Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
* A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
* If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".
* To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
o Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
o Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
o If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
o Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.
* Click Close to exit the program.
Post SUPERAntiSpyware log.

RESTART COMPUTER!

2. Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html to your desktop.

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure a checkmark is PLACED next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
* Post the log back here.
