omg same problem wid me................i just came here to pen a topic abt this problem but u already did so thanks ..............andcan someone suggest what wrong why videos aren't  playing by wmp
Isnt WMP 11 still a beta? That might have something to do with it.  Either that or for some reason your codecs are not loading correctly.

If you have the TIME I would uninstall 11 and install 10 just to check, or just simply reinstall 11.  Reinstalling something like WMP can be a big help sometimes.I think is got to be the problem about the IE broswer plugin so:
I try reinstalling IE plugin, Try out different browser like Firefox.

Are you free of any malware? WHat do you use for protection? What OS? What version of IE?

Solve : File - Send - not working?

Answer»

I don't know for sure when it started but in Internet Explorer under the File tab, clicking on send page or link by EMAIL does nothing. I know it use to work . It might have started after a Windows XP reinstall in place (repair). Anybody know a fix without a reformat and reinstall?Simply reinstalling your email program MAY fix this.  Do you have Outlook?  (Not Outlook Express.)  If not, you could try Thunderbird.I have Outlook Express. Would I go to the control panel -add remove programs and remove (uncheck box) Outlook Express then check it again for a reinstall? You can certainly try that.  But for various reasons, if you uninstall Outlook Express, I do not recommend reinstalling it.  It deserves its bad reputation.I'm a little surprised to hear you say that. I've always had good luck with it. If I uninstall it, do you think I'll lose my messages and address book? I wish I could just install over the top of it.If you do that, backup your files there FIRST. If you want to reinstall OE then do so and if the files are damaged, just use your backups.
Is Outlook Express set as your email program in Internet Explorer?  Yes it is.Let's consider the possibility that this is really an IE problem, not OE.  So, I'm suggesting some disk cleanup, using CCleaner.  No guarantee, but I think it's worth a try.I've tried several disk maint. programs. Rather than trying to reinstall again (unless I find more BROKEN things) I'll just wait for IE7 . I KINK of think that the problem is in Internet Explorer also. How do you know OE is set as your email program in IE, where did you look?
Can you send a link to your desktop from IE?I clicked on Tools - Internet Options - Programs....and?Outlook Express is associated with the E-mail listing. Quote

I've tried several disk maint. programs.
Which ones?

Solve : capturing internet radio?

Answer»

is there a way to record internet radio? cuz in my there is no techno radio station. so i can put it on a cd. so i can listen to my techno music at work.Yes.  You can use Audacity (see the software FAQ - you know the drill) to record anything that is being played by your sound card.

Beware of copyright breaches...will it say copyright on the internet radio WINDOW?where is it i LOOKED in the database?

i probaly skipped it Quote

will it say copyright on the internet radio window?
Or on the parent website, yes.  But recording this kind of stuff is usually subject to "fair use".  i.e. you're probably okay to record it for your own personal use and listen to it once or twice.  But you're not okay to start making copies for all your friends...

This is where the Ctrl+F key combination comes in HANDY.

"Audacity" is there under the "Multimedia" section in the second POST.

Solve : Problem with internet exlorer?

Answer»

I've had this problem for about a month now and its really starting to get on my nerves; so i hope one of you guys can help me out. Some web pages will load but others won't.

example: i can get this one to load but myspace.com or microsoft.com won't load at all or i get a cannot connect to server error, or i get just a white page with done at the bottom. I had reset all of my settings, reset my router and have done everything that i can think of to fix the problem.

I use IE 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301 - 1519. I updated to service pack two after the problem started hoping that it would fix my problem, but it has not.

Any help at all would be appreciated.First a quick couple of scans to make sure your computer is clean.

Solve : Blocking web sites?

Answer»

Hi,

how can i block all the web pages and allow only the web base email pages. for surfing.

Thanks.Try explaining this one again in a little more detail.  :-?Yes, that one NEEDS some clarification.  My guess is he means being ABLE to access web-based email accounts such as Hotmail or Yahoo Mail, but no other websites.  Again, just a guess.Perhaps he will return and shed some light on this great mystery.... Quote

Yes, that one needs some clarification.  My guess is he means being able to access web-based email accounts such as Hotmail or Yahoo Mail, but no other websites.  Again, just a guess.

If that is the QUESTION, I think it can be done like so.....

Tools->Internet Options->Privacy (tab)->Sites...

You can block every domain that exists except web based email ones.

Or maybe "Block Web Site Buddy 2.0" will help. Either Internet Explorer's way or other external website blockers, there's plenty if you CHECK out google.Hi,
Sorry i was in a hurry. My question is How can i block all the web traffic e.g port 80. But at the same time i need to allow traffic to yahoo.com. and hotmail.com. In other words only yahoo and msn mail domains are allowed to be access.

Thank you.Well, if it is just mail you want, you can achieve this with a router; block all connections on port 80. Then you can set up an email client (Thunderbird, Outlook...) and have them receive mail using the POP port and send mail on smtp port 25.

Tools for this would be:
FreePOPs
1st smtp server.

Maybe Ipsec? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813878

Solve : Internet Explorer Beta 7?

Answer»

Can any one tell how to get around this? Windows XP Professional INTERNET Explorer BETA 7Remember it IS a beta product.  Someone needs to flash an announcement, just like Nathan did when he disabled guest posting, that looks like this:

USING INTERNET EXPLORER 7 IS A WASTE OF TIME

Actually, we can omit the "7". IE 7 Works fine , except for when in doesn't!

I say to get past that Error , Uninstall IE7 and Go back to IE6

Im useing IE7 Right now! Quote

It won,t let you reinstall V6 it tells you have a later version on your computer I spent three hours with Microsoft trying to get rid of V7 but they gave up in the end as what ever we did did not work.  It seems ALMOST impossible to uninstall V7 if you can I can't find where to do it. I tried all the normal thing but STILL no go.

Solve : IE vs Mozilla?

Answer»

Hey all!

IE has an option in Tools, Internet Options, Accessability that allows you to 'Format documents using my style sheet'. Does Mozilla have anything comparable? I can't seem to find it, and I can't convince Mozilla to block ads on www.neopets.com, so I'd like to force it to refer to a custom style sheet before it displays the site.

I realize this is actually not a question about IE, but this seemed to be the most appropriate forum anyhow.  This kind of functionality is generally made availablethrough extensions for Mozilla/Firefox.  Try the >Web Developer< extension.  It should be able to meet your needs. That's kinda cool...but I'm stuck again. I downloaded and installed that addon, but the only option I can find that links to my style sheet is in 'CSS', 'Add user style sheet'. When that is clicked, it works GREAT for that one page, but as soon as I REFRESH, the ads are back and there's obviously no link to my style sheet anymore. How do I hook it up permanently?Sorry - I didn't FULLY take in your problem.  I answered the question, not the problem.

You actually need the >Adblock< or >Adblock Plus<.  The latter has only just been released and I'm afraid I'm not sure of the difference between the two.Alright, I've downloaded and installed Adblock Plus. Unfortunately, what I want to do is described here:

Element hiding: using raw CSS

If even selecting elements by any attribute isn’t enough, you can use the full power of CSS selectors. For example the following rule will hide anything following a div element with class “adheader”: ##div.adheader + *. The two hashes indicate that this element hiding rule is to be interpreted as a CSS selector (this particular one is a adjacent sibling selector).

Note: This functionality is for advanced users only, you should be comfortable with CSS selectors to use it. Adblock Plus won’t be able to check the syntax of the selector you are adding, if you use invalid CSS syntax you might break other (valid) rules you have. Check JavaScript Console for CSS errors.

I am definitely not an advanced user. I have the css that I use in IE, is there any way to post that and get some advice on how to format it according to the above? I'm so close!  Sure.  Just tell us exactly what you'd like to do, and we'll do our best to help.  Coolio!

Okay, here's my CSS:

div.ban,div.bottomban, div#ban,div#bottomban {

display: none !important;

}

This simple style sheet, when linked to IE, completely prevents the top and bottom banner on www.neopets.com from showing up. It removes that space entirely, it doesn't leave a blank box or anything. So, the whole page moves up because the top banner has completely disappeared, know what I mean? Same for the ad on the bottom.

According to what I posted earlier about using raw CSS, I thought I had to add ##div.ban and ##div.bottomban to the elements sections of the Adblock...but that didn't work. So, ideas?  Whereabouts on the site are you seeing those adverts?  I haven't found them yet.  Do you need to log in to see them?  If so, I may have to ASK you to PM me your login details (you could set your password to something different to normal first).  I kind of need to be able to see it for myself.Well, I sent you one of my account name/pw to log into, but even when I'm not logged in, they're displayed for me. Wonder why you don't see them? You're using IE or Firefox?

Anyhow, by blocking individual domains I've now GOTTEN rid of the ads, but the ad space is still there (just blank yellow) at the top of the screen. The CSS gets rid of that in IE, so I'd still prefer to use those elements somehow.Got your PM and will look at this Monday.  I use Firefox most of the time.Okay, I got it to work by adding the following to AdblockPlus's list: #div(ban)
#div(bottomban)You won't see the effects immediately, as you do with other blocked elements.  To see the page with the elements removed, you need to refresh the page.YES! Sweet!

Thanks Rob!Glad you've got things the way you like them!

Not sure what you mean by this but we may be able to set up something with the task scheduler or an internal timer in the login script.

Does that site GIVE you the option to save password?  I generally would not recommend using that feature for security reasons but, in this case, it might be a good choice for you if the option is available.

For username, have you checked to see whether IE remembers most recently used usernames?  If you open your browser to that website's logon page, put your cursor in the username box, and either click again or hit the down arrow on your keyboard, do you see your username in a list of recently used usernames?Firefox is good at remembering passwords.  Or try SlimBrowser with RoboForms.Hi Sir,
Thanks for reply and assist.

want to go after the main login or home page without putting the USERNAME AND PASSWORD again and again.

Jay,

Still unclear about this interval thing. The script as written will bring up your site, log you on, wait 1 hour, quit IE and repeat.

Code: [Select]Do While True
  Set objIE = CreateObject("InternetExplorer.Application")
  objIE.Navigate "http://ccc.hyundai-motor.com/ccc/main.jsp"
  Call TimeDelay
  With objIE

    .Document.frmCcc.txtuid.value="username"
    .Document.frmCcc.txtpwd.value="password"
    .Document.frmCcc.submit()
  End With
  WScript.Sleep 3600000
  objIE.Quit
Loop

Sub TimeDelay()
  Do While objIE.Busy
    WScript.Sleep 200
  Loop
End Sub

Replace username and password with real values. Save the script with a vbs extension and run from the command prompt as wscript scriptname.vbs

Note: If security is a concern, the password should be in a external data store preferably in encrypted form. Consider also that such a scheme would result in CONSIDERABLE additional complexity and overhead.

 Good luck. 8-)
Sir, This is actually what i need. A lot of thanks.

Sir it's open and running till the time and quit once but next opening time it's giving error (error.jpg) or not run.

One thing also i want to ask that : Where should i have to save this file. Will i have to run scrip command daily in command prompt.
When this process will not have to work, what i will have to do or For removing this process what will i have to do.

A Lot of Thanks and Regards,

Jay

You can save the script anywhere you want, just be sure to POINT to the directory when you reference the script. For example you posted you saved the script on the desktop.

wscript "c:\documents and settings\administrator\desktop\jj.vbs"

You can use the task scheduler to launch the script or setup a shortcut. The tricky part is that wscript is the EXECUTABLE program and the script name is a command line parameter. The script was written as a loop; use the task manager to kill it.

Updated script (the original has a small problem)

Code: [Select]Set objIE = CreateObject("InternetExplorer.Application")
Do While True
  objIE.Navigate "http://ccc.hyundai-motor.com/ccc/main.jsp"
  Call TimeDelay

  End With
  WScript.Sleep 3600000
Loop

Sub TimeDelay()
  Do While objIE.Busy
    WScript.Sleep 200
  Loop
End Sub

Hope this answers all your questions. 8-)

Sir It's working very well but showing error after opening first.

Regards,
JayI can only reproduce your error if IE is terminated while the script is running. Perhaps I don't understand what you're trying to do. After IE is started, the site brought up and logged-in what exactly do you expect to happen? I'm also unclear about the interval thing.

Solve : IE shuts down/closes accessing certain pages?

Answer»

I have a Dell Dimension desktop operating with WINDOWS XP.  I can get to the net using IE 6.x but when I try to get to an MSN page using my hotmail/passport login, I get a message saying that IE has encountered a problem and will shut down.  They ask if I want to send a message about this problem to MS, I click yes and it closes out of IE.  I have tried REBOOTING and going to the site in a different manner but no joy.  This seems to happen periodically.  It GOES away for awhile and then comes back.  I think I am current on all my Windows updates.  Try downloading Sun's Java VM from www.java.com.  Might help.  I'd also recommend moving away from IE, in favour of Firefox or OPERA, but I'm not convinced that MSN will work 100% with those non-MS browsers...  Still, it's unlikely to get worse!

Solve : Upgrade from 6 to 7 gone wrong?

Answer»

I have Internet Explorer 6, and tried to upgrade to 7. After I installed it from microsoft.com, I began setup. After a while, it said that it could not be installed and that I should restart to undo everything. So I did. Once my COMPUTER rebooted, I started getting messages about things not being able to start because file iertuti.dll or somehting like that was missing. I got this message for a bunch of things like Windows Media Player, Norton, etc. So I tried the last known good configuration thing, and that didn't work. Then a friend emailed me the file, and I put it into the System32 folder, and now the message doesn't come anymore. But, Internet Explorer still doesn't work, every page says page cannot be displayed. Don't know if this matters, but I got some annoying malware that might have something to do with this. Can anyone help me?Go to Add/Remove programs on the Control Panel. Make sure "Show Updates" is listed. Find IE 7 near the bottom and remove it.

And stay away from betas. I went to Add/Remove w/ the show updates checked, and found IE 7. I assume you mean remove the Update for Internet Explorer 7 Beta 3 (KB922880) subcategory, of the main category Windows Internet Explorer 7 Beta 3, cause the main IE category didn't have a remove option. But when I tried to remove the subcategory, it said Setup has detected that Windows Internet Explorer has been upgraded on your computer since KB922880 was installed. If you remove KB922880 your system will be unusable. The removal of KB922880 cannot continue.
I'm assuming this means Windows thinks that I only want to get rid of the update, but the update pretty much is IE7 so it won't let me?

PLUS, I forgot to say in my first post, I tried to remove Internet Explorer from Add/Remove Windows Components, but after rebooting, the files were still in Program Files and nothing had changed. It sounds like you have totally FUBAR'ed the system then, at least in terms of an uninstall.

Do you have a real Windows CD if you need to reinstall it and get IE functioning?

As mentioned above NO beta product should be installed if you aren't prepared to hose your system. No, I don't have a Windows CD key  Everyone needs a real Windows CD sooner or later.

In your case it looks like sooner.

oh my. Yea if I'm to be perfectly honest, my entire computer is a disastor and there is probably no helping me. I'm not the best when it comes to computers. I really don't know anything about mine. It was put together from scratch by a friend, who I'm no longer in contact with, so it has no manual and everything has been ripped off I believe.
ok I've got some stuff. I'm using Windows Xp Professional, Version 2002, Service pack 2, IE 6.0, Symantec client firewall, which is turned off and doesn't work properly anyways (as soon as I open it it also says it needs to be shut down). I've been having the problem ever sinced I tried to play a game (1 week ago).
Some other problems I've sort of worked around: Hotmail doens't work properly in IE, it freezes on every page, but it will work in firefox. Windows live messenger works VERY RARELY, usually just opens up and freezes, but I can get the really old version to work. Alot of websites don't show up properly, the links aren't on them.
Anything else I can tell you? Quote

Solve : Internet Explorer Reg Key?

Answer»

Hey Guys,

I was looking through my registry and I was trying to find the string that enables certain tabs to show up. Such as under internet explorer, you can go to tools - internet options - and then you GET a whole bunch of tabs. I needed to know if you knew where in the registry keys for the tabs are. Thanks in advance!
-BTYLet me say that playing in the registry has CAUSED heartache and reinstalls for many as the system can become totally unusable. If you are familiar with this and are willing to risk it, at least make a backup copy first.  Dude trust me when it comes to this stuff I know what I'm doing. I know all about how if you mess with the registry you can crash your computer and everything. And a backup of the registry is the first thing I did. Lol Most of the time I just go in and poke around a bit. Never change anything becuase I know what it can do. But thanks for the warning.
-BTYWhat tabs are you trying to make show up?  Or are you trying to hide some?  What are you actually trying to do?LOl .......Hi Rob ...........   Quote

Dude trust me when it comes to this stuff I know what I'm doing.

He knows all about it .......... Odd , then why's he asking for assistance ......hummmmm

dl65  And now he's gone AWOL. Hope he didn't crash his machine.Lol no I didn't crash my machine but I was a gone for a while. But what I meant by saying all about it is, that I know that I can f**k up my computer that way. But I'm smart enough to know how to not mess it up. Anyways I'm trying to make the connections tab show up. Which is under tools - internet options. So that is exactly what I am trying to do.
-BTYWhy is the connections tab missing?  If it has been disabled through group policies, you may not have sufficient privileges to reinstate it.The Internet Options screen that appears from IE's menu is the same thing as the Internet options screen that can be accessed from Control Panel, except that, when opened, it's labeled Internet Properties instead of Internet Options.

I'm thinking that if you open the Internet Properties panel via Windows Control Panel, you will also not see the Connections tab there.  Seems like this just further confirms what Rob said.Ok well the thing is I didn't tell you one thing. And after this your probably won't HELP me which is ok. See at school we have been using a proxy to get around our websense and the only thing that we can use the proxy for now is Firefox becuase they took away the connections tab under interet explorer. And I was watching one of the admins and saw that he had a reg key that reinstated the connections tab.
-BTY Quote
Ok well the thing is I didn't tell you one thing. And after this your probably won't help me which is ok.

That's right, I don't think you're going to find help forthcoming on this.
No wonder we didn't get all the details EARLIER...i REMEMBER the day of finding loop holes in my school sercurity to be able to play games and browse the net...

plus how do u know you even have the right to hope regedit?

Solve : Text too small on printouts from web?

Answer»

Hi,

I RECENTLY went to high SPEED internet.  since then all my printouts from my e-mails and printouts from my web pages are so small I can barely read them.  I have tried all the changes suggested, from Tools, View text etc. but when I do another print out it's the same thing.  I never had this problem before I went to the high speed.  Any help would be appreciated.

thank you. What browser are you using?  Is it the same one you were using before GETTING your high speed Internet service?Thank you for replying.

I had Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.  I could use either one.Do you have the same problem with both browsers?  And, what do you use for email?I have the same problem with both browsers.  My e-mail is with Yahoo Quote

I have tried all the changes suggested, from Tools, View text etc. but when I do another print out it's the same thing.
Exactly what program are you referring to here?  Have you tried making adjustments in the Print Preview screen or Page Setup screen?

The programs I'm referring to are from the menu bars on Internet Explorer or when I'm in my mozilla.  I haven't tried the print preview screen or page setup screen.  I'll give that a try.  thank you so muchThank you so very much.  You have solved my problem.  If I go to print preview, instead of print, and then go to 125 percent instead of letting it TAKE the shrink to fit, I get the size print I need.

thanks for sticking with me.

Glad to hear problem solved.  I'll mention two other points regarding printing a web page.  You can set a custom percentage if the listed percentages don't quite suit you.  You can also adjust margins in the Page Setup screen.  So, if you select 125% but find that a little of the right side of a page GETS cutoff, you may be able to remedy that by either changing the percentage factor to some custom setting or change the margins.

Solve : Browsing full screen?

Answer»

I am currently using Internet Explorer 6.0 Package 1 update (WINDOWS ME). Up until a couple days ago when I would open a website it would open in full screen. Something happened. Now the screen comes up to half the size every time, and I have to use the maximize SQUARE in the upper right hand corner to maximize the screen. Can somebody tell me how to set my computer back to the full screen mode. When I say full screen, all the toolbars were still there. This is very frustrating to me. Help!! I should tell you...I am not a computer whiz. You will have to talk in simple language. Thanks a BUNCH!!

MaryIE remembers the window setting size of the last screen when you close it.  goyellow....... Just grab the edge of the reduced size widow and pull it out to the desired width , then pull it up or down to the desired height.
Now when you close that window up it should remember ....

That doesn't sound normal. This could be a problem with the power supply. eMachines are notorious for bad or weak power supplies that OFTEN take out the motherboard or other components when they go. I don't think this is necessarily related to the other problem, but I would be concerned.

I would also start by testing the RAM and hard drive.

www.memtest86.com for a RAM checker and the appropriate hard drive maker's site for free diagnostics.

What are you using for virus protection by the way? Is that Service Pack 2?
I am using Spysweeper, and McAfee.  I scanned with both programswith no problems showing up.  Yes it is Service Pack 2.  I will take your advise and see what the website has to say.  Thank you so much for helping me.  Shari Quote

Solve : Menus missing-the whole row (file, edit, view etc)?

Answer»

:exclamation
I downloaded IE7 a few days ago. It's very different from IE6. I don't see any of the usual Menu tabs, such as file, edit, view, go etc. There is no help tab to see if I actually got the finished Ie7. I'm pretty sure it wasn't the beta. It wasn't supposed to be. I get to my favorites by clicking on the gold star LOCATED at the far left of the "toolbar" (all icons).

My entire computer is running very slow both offline and on. I often lose my INTERNET connection and can't load web pages with either IE7 or Mozilla Firefox. Would the 2 browsers create a conflict?  It didn't seem to before IE7.  I've been trying out Firefox for a couple of weeks now, but some sites require IE.
Any suggestions?
I run Zone ALARM, AVG and have AdAware also.

I'm running a Dell Dimension 2400

Right-click in some of the blank space in the menu area (e.g. to the right of the tabs).  Check the "Menu bar" option.  There should be no conflict between the two browsers.

Your computer may benefit from a system cleanup.  I use the following routine on all the computers I service:

CCleaner
Eusing Free REGISTRY Cleaner

Thanks so much Guru.  I did that and now have my MENUS!!

Thanks also for the tips on system cleanup.  Your computers must be squeaky clean.

Solve : Editing in IE7?

Answer»

With IE6 I could scroll to a toolbar for EDITING. I could edit a document with EITHER Excel or Word. In IE7 in the File toolbar it allows me to edit with Excel only. How can I get an option to edit it with Word??

PeterGo to Tools, Internet Options, Programs, and click on the drop arrow to display the list of options for HTML editor.  If Word is listed, select it, click Apply and OK.Thanks that works! However, not WANTING to sound greedy, if the document I have opened needs to be edited how can I get Excel for use in editing? Do I need to open the options folder again and everytime I need to change the editing "tool"?

PeterI suspect multiple ways of editing a web page can be added to the IE7 Page menu so that you do not need to go to Tool, Internet Options, ..., and change the PROGRAM, by editing Windows Registry.  But, I have not found a reference on how to do that.  You might Google for something.  Here is one thing I found which talks about a Registry entry, but I don't know whether this particular reference can be applied to Win XP and IE7: Internet Explorer Client Registry Layout

If you're not familiar with editing of the Registry, be very careful.  The wrong move can cause major problems with your COMPUTER.

Solve : Accessing OE from IE 7 Homepage?

Nothing new about that.  The full screen mode in IE 6 and IE 5.5 also covers the taskbar.

I presume you're talking about the Quick Launch toolbar.  Since it's on the taskbar, then obviously it is also hidden if you PUT IE in full screen display.

NB: The keyboard shortcut to go in and out of fullscreen (a.k.a. 'kiosk mode') is F11.My IE 6 task bar is not hidden in full screen mode :-?
I can 'grab' it with my mouse & pull it down so it can't be seen.
Move your mouse to the very bottom of the screen & see if the curser turns into a double arrow. Quote

IE really does not have a "task bar", does it?  Isn't the lower part of the IE window called the Status Bar?  So, do you really mean Windows taskbar?  If so, I find I can't make Windows taskbar stay on top with IE in full screen mode.
Soybean has the good oil, the taskbar is the 'desktop' taskbar, but I can drag mine up or down with the mouse in fullscreen (IE6) mode.

Solve : Link in E-Mail to automatically update home page?

We are moving to a new intranet SERVER in work which is looked after by a separate team and they want to change the home page address from an IP address to a domain name instead.

Is there anyway we COULD attach a LINK in an E-Mail for users which they click on and it updates their homepage automatically? Or another simple SOLUTION that doesn't INVOLVE going around each PC and adding the new address manually.

Solve : Downloaded Firefox 2?

Answer»

Well, this is my FIRST time using Firefox and believe I think I'm in love with this program. It has many add ons and its has the tabbed browsing which was the one thing I missed from IE 7. Honestly a good program to install!Totally agree with you 110%.
I absolutely love Firefox, I'm so glad my friend introduced me to it shortly after version 1.0.
I've been using it ever since, it's even on my flash drive as Portable Firefox.
It totally beats IE for everything IMHO, I never use IE except for Windows Update.
Awesome program.IE 7 does have tabbed browsing but I don't like the way it works in that regard as well as Firefox.  I can't get on with IE7's tabbed browsing, it confuses me.
Links I expect to open in a new tab open in the same tab or in a new page, and then the tabs don't behave like I want them to.
I'll just stick with Firefox.Yep, I agree with you.  That's what I meant when I said I don't like the way it works in that regard as well as Firefox.

I first started using Firefox about 2 months AGO.  I'm still using 1.5; will probably UPGRADE to 2 soon. What's holding you back?  Just curious; I upgraded as soon as it was available.Just holding off awhile to see whether any complaints were being reported.  Also, just thought I'd take some time to EXPERIENCE tabbed browsing and the other features of version 1.5 before upgrading.  That way, I'll have something to compare to.  There are some existing issues with 2.0...i'm holding off as well.

Theyre pretty responsive to bug reports so i'm sure they will be dealt with shortly. I'm content to wait til then...Personally, I've had no problems with FF2 at all, once the extensions were made compatible.
It has crashed a few times, but less than FF1.5 did, and much less than IE.Urge to uninstall rising..... Should I just downgrade to 1.5? Or should I just stick with 2 even though there are flaws?Have you had any problems with it?
There are always some problems with any program, some are just more or less buggy than others.
I'd say if you have issues with F2, then uninstall it and go back to 1.5, wait for 2.0.1 to be released (or whatever they call the next patch)
But if you don't, then stick with it.
Just my two CENTS. Quote

Urge to uninstall rising..... Should I just downgrade to 1.5? Or should I just stick with 2 even though there are flaws?

I'd say disable your extensions one at a time til you find the culprit...extensions are always far behind a new release...

You may need to do the following as well

1. Start

3. Control Panel
4. Internet Options
5. General tab
6. REMOVE cookies, temporary files and history

These items are still there , it's just a matter of locating then.
I installed it , however after several days of using it , I noted there was a little lag time when switching between pages or opening new pages ....... I also noted a slight differance in the FONTS ....... After  reading other peoples comments who have tried it ..... ( the most recent IE7 ) .....  I decided to revert back to IE 6 at least for the time being.   It does offer additional security protection , however the lag issue ...... I do not like ..... ( As far as I know , the test machine is free of any BUGS or pests ).   I would suggest this ....go ahead and give it a try , and if your not happy with it .....revert back to IE6 ......as detailed here..... http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/support/default.mspx     Go to " How to install/uninstall Internet Explorer7"

I would like to update my ie6 with vital updates,.. but.. its asking me if I would like to d/load the service pack.. ..

When you say service pack..... are you refering to SP2 .... ?
Assuming you have a legal copy of XP , you certainly want SP2 ........ as well as any other critical updates available to you . If IE 7 is included in the updates , simply remove the check mark and it won't be installed .

The above is correct,.. thanks.. will take note of that.

Solve : Internet Explorer-Page has Expired??

Answer»

Warning: Page Has Expired...Wha??? When I go to certain--but not all--web sites and click the "back" arrow I get the message "Warning: Page has expired". Something about the page no longer beingavailable and directing me to the "REFRESH" icon. This has just started happening recently. A virus? Something I'm doing wrong?? It's annoying..jack4855.......  The example you listed is not uncommon, but just to be on the safe side, post a LINK to the site your having the trouble with and we can check it for you.
If its just the odd site , theres probably nothing wrong with your machine and your not doing anything wrong .

dl65  Two that I have accessed and encountered this problem with are "Rotten Tomatoes.com" (a movie REVIEW site) and, embarassingly enough, "Cupid.com", the internet dating site. The problem occurs at other sites as well. jack4855..... I just tried going to http://www.rottentomatoes.com/  then I tried clicking various links on the OPENING page ....... one at a time ......and when each of the new pages opened , I used the back BUTTON to go back to where I had just come from . I tried at least 6 differant links and did not run into your issue.  I wonder if somehow one of your settings has been changed. How about trying this ......... open IE and click on tools/internet options/security tab .... then click the restore defaults button and then apply and ok........ Now go back into Tools/internet options/advanced tab .... click restore defaults , click apply and ok ....... Now go back to rotten tomatoes and have a go and see if things are ok .

Can someone give me the link to the article about removing IE7 and INSTALLING IE6 please? That would be greatly appreciated.

MikeLook in add/remove programs in your control panel. You should see the IE 7 "remove", once you remove, it will AUTOMATICALLY go back to IE 6. At LEAST that was how it was for me. It was very simple to remove IE 7. Goto http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/support/default.mspx to see the microsoft windows explaination of how to remove IE 7.Thank you, will do that right now.Just to let you know Dave mine did the same THING, it went back to IE 6.

Solve : Both IE6 and IE7 Fail to Run?

Answer»

My problem is this, on my Dell Inspiron laptop, when I click on the INTERNET Explorer icon the program opens but fails to find the MSN home page and continues searching until I stop it.   I had this problem with IE 6 on my Dell Dimension 4500 in July but, after several attempts to repair IE6,  I downloaded IE7  and the same problem occurred with that program.    When I stopped trying  to open Internet Explorer I got the usual MS message telling me that Internet Explorer was unable to link to the WEB page I requested, thus I was unable to use IE.   Exactly the same problem now occurs with my Inspiron. neither IE6 nor IE7 will work.    Fortunately I have other browsers that I can use.

I first searched the Dell Forums and found a REFERENCE to this site:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q318378

I looked at the pages in the reference in order to try to reinstall Internet Explorer 6 for Windows SP2 and  followed the instructions. But I received the message telling me that the program was set up for automatic updates and no updates were available for my system.     Presumably all the critical updates had been downloaded before the problem with IE arose.      In the three references in the section entitled "Reinstall Windows XP SP2",  I could not find any specific instructions on how to remove the existing IE software and how to reinstall it.   The problem was further discussed in the Dell Forums here:

http://delltalk.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=sw_winxp&message.id=194367

Later, I accidentally solved the problem but I had no idea how it occurred since I had tried several methods to overcome the problem, but I did manage eventually to load IE7  successfully on to my Dell Dimension 4500.

This is the problem that has now occurred on my laptop and I have tried several of the methods to solve the problem that I was advised previously but without success.     Naturally, I do not have IE6 and IE7 installed at the same time.

Has anybody had this problem on their computer?      Was the problem solved?     If so, how?

T.Hyde

My Computer System:

Dimension 4500, 2.53GHz processor, 512Mb DIMM, Windows XP SP2, 20Gb hard disk, 80Gb hard disk, Roxio CD R/RW, Blueyonder Broadband & LAN, Dell Photo All-in-One printer.

Dimension 4100, 1GHz processor, 256Mb SDRAM, Windows ME, 20Gb hard disk, Adaptec CD R/DW, HP Deskjet 840C, Scanjet 3300c, Blueyonder Broadband & LAN

Inspiron 8600, 1.4GHz processor, 512Mb SDRAM, Windows XP SP2, 40Gb hard disk, Philips CDRW/DVD disk drive, Blueyonder Broadband & LAN

Netgear RP614 v2 router.

The only thing I can think of, is either to check your ethernet connection (also be sure to check Crossover cable for any defects it may have) if using broadband, (If you've never had dial-up skip this) or to check you connection PROPERTIES to make sure you are not trying to dial default connection. If in connection properties it says something other than "Never dial a connection" than IE will not load correctly and at the top where the title of the page is it will say [Working Offline]. If using wireless internet be sure to check the WEP key or what ever encryption you are using to match up with you router. Hope this helps  .thyde9337.....  You post is a little confusing . You start talking about one machine and then factor in a second one and then a third is mentioned.
How about stating with one and lets see if we can get that one sorted out .
You connect to the net via a router and a cable modem.
Does this machine connect to the net ok ?
Are you able to send and receive Email ok ?
You have XP/SP2 installed .  Do you have all the available updates installed.
Do you have IE6 or IE7 installed?

let us know.

Solve : IE7 JAVA problem?

Answer»

XP SP2. I installed IE7, but it's not letting java applets load up from the web. I've checked Internet Options Advanced and Security Advanced, but can't seem to find the items that were there in IE6 to enable JAVA.

Any clues?

Thanks in advance,
Try re-installing Java and when the installation is finished, it should come up with a checkbox within the program (check it), it has something to do with using Java EXTENSIONS in IE. Can't really remember exactly what it says. Do you have this option in your system:
Yes, I have that option checked. I did reinstall JAVA, but don't remember SEEING the ITEM mentioned by the fellow above. I will reinstall and look for that.

Thanks for the suggestions. Quote

That SLIPPED my mind I totally forgot about that even though I tend to work with Java on (almost) a daily basis. :-/

I have a Compaq with Windows XP. I have a 2.8 Ghz processor with 256 MB ram and only 61 MB free.

Thanks! aces67.........  Unfortuneatly , there's not a lot you can do if your on dialup ...... What sort of a connection speed do you get ?  More ram would be better , HOWEVER it will not make your system download much QUICKER ....... It will make your machine perform better though.

Solve : Bad IP Address!?

Answer»

My computer is a HP Pavillion, with Windows XP, and I'm trying to hook up Verizon DSL. I tried to get help from HP, but since I bought my computer in late 2001, it's considered obsolete and they won't help. When I tried to CONNECT with DSL, it wouldn't work. At first I thought my line wasn't DSL capable...but Verizon said it was. So, obviously, it was something wrong with my computer. I didn't want to be one of those people who call for help,(and it ends up being an obsurdly easy fix) so I worked on it for a week before I caved. All of my connection lights were good and my memory is fine. I did the ping and config commands. I also attempted the network wizard. All of this failed. Verizon said it was probably a bad NIC, so I replaced it. Failed. Then Verizon said, after I did the config command, it was a bad IP address. They said that Windows will assign a random IP address, if something goes wrong. That's all fine and dandy...I know what the problem is, but no one will help me fix it. So, there it is....my tale of hardship Can anyone help? I would greatly appreciate it! astoner1977....  You say you replaced the ethernet card ........Did you install the drivers which probably came with it ?

Do you have the Mac address from your machine ?
Some ISPs require you to register this with them
Does your machine display a ip address?

to check this......... click start / RUN ....... in the run box type cmd  ....then press enter.  A new SMALL black window will appear...... At the blinking cusor ...... type.....   ipconig/all   then push enter.........
You should see info appear.........   Your MAC ( physical address ) should be there as well as a ip address.

let us know what you discover.

dl65  Thanks for the quick response! I have done that command and the address it gives me begins with the numbers 169... I don't have the full address in front of me b/c I am at my work's computer. My ISP provider had me run the same command and the address that I received, she said it was a bad number. She told me that Windows will make up a random faulty address if certain problems arise.?? Does this make any sense to you? It sounded like an easy fix, but like I said HP wouldn't help at all!
Yes. I did replace the NIC. It now has ethernet capability only. My other one had dial-up as well. Also, my ISP provider never mentioned registering the IP address. I HOPE I've been able to make sense of all of this.P.S. The driver that came with the NIC, on the box said it was Win. XP capable. But, in the instruction book only goes to Win.2000, as well as the driver disk. So, I don't know what that is about either.Start by reading our networking FAQ.  There's a link in my signature.

I think it is ok there are definitely some glitches to be worked out. From what I have read allot of us have had problems, but I guess if you are having problems that is why you are here not because you are gust curious.Personally, I hate it
But then again, I hated IE6 as well
I hardly ever use it anyway, Firefox is the best thing since SLICED bread in my opinion (or maybe better, who needs sliced bread?  Just rip a chunk off...)Should be thrown in a vat of nuclear waste

Seconded :-/ IE7 is OK, but I dont like that the menu bar is gone by default. It also broke a bunch of automated macros, so I moved my automated routines over to one of my other systems RUNNING IE6 still and Windows 2000 Pro.

Kind of wish they left the format the same, and just patched the problems.

BTW: I hate the XP View in XP, I like the Classic View that looks like 2000. I dont NEED a wizard to help me navigate or a questionaire when adjusting network properties through the GUI etc.LOL ..... I'm a wee bit confused by the poll voting options.......

The question is ..... "Do you like IE7"

As I read it that would tend to suggest that one either likes it or doesnt ......
So the anticipated RESPONSE should be either .... YES or No ...... and yet neither of those voting options are available......?
Is it possible these polls are being created by a polititian?
I was unable to vote as my possible answers arent listed.

dl65  I think IE 7 is OK.  However, I installed Firefox on 9/28/06 and it has become my preferred browser.  I like the way it works for tabbed browsing better than IE.  If I click on links in email messages, Firefox opens them in separate tabs in an existing window; IE opens another window.  Oh Joy......................The best thing I liked about IE7 was.........it was sooooo easy to uninstall.   Quote

Which?  IE7 or Firefox?
If Firefox, definitely (in my opinion anyway)
If IE7, it depends on what you think of the new interface...apparently the security is better and I think it's a bit faster, but personally I vastly prefer FirefoxIE 7 should not have been released.I don't like IE, any version or any flavor. Used Netscape under DOS and even that was better than IE. Any of the Mozilla.org browsers or those based on the gecko engine are superior to IE.Agreed and well put...course us 2K guys stay ahead of the curve by REMAINING behind.

Solve : Web pages always have white background colors?

Answer»

I've encountered this strange problem, which I can't seem to correct.

Brand new Dell Latitiude D420 laptop, running WINXP Prof SP2
Internet Explorer V 6.0 installed.
AVG anti-virus (paid for, not free edition)

When I connect to the internet, every web page visited does not display correctly. Problem is that background color, or colors is / are always white. Text content, links and images do however seem to be displayed correctly and WORK fine. I have searched on the microsoft.com website which suggests a remedy under the following link

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/277008/en-us

however, the 'Ignore colors specified on Web pages' checkbox is already unchecked.

I have since installed Firefox v2.0 to see if it is an IE problem only, but the problem is still present there, so it seems to be independent of web browser.

I did check and COMPARE all of the Firefox settings against my other desktop computer (Dell, also recently purchased but running XP Home edition), and in as far as the options are the same the settings are identical.

I have not managed to find much else on this type of problem on the internet. The comnputer only connected to the internet for the first time this week, and has not been used for general browsing at all.

Any SUGGESTIONS welcome! It is probably using default system colors. Those might be colors that you have selected for background, desktop, etc. IE will default to the selected system colors, but in Firefox you can set them to anything you want. When setting colors in Firefox, deselect "Use system colors".Brand new? Have you contacted Dell? They have great support and this ma be a known issue.yThanks for the quick responses!

I had already looked at the 'Colors' options in Firefox. Although the 'Use System Colors' checkbox was checked, the 'Allow Pages to choose their own colors.....' box was also checked, which I understand overrides the 'Use System colors
' box. Just to be sure, I have now however, unchecked the USC box as well, but it makes no difference.

I had not made any changes to the default settings on Windows XP, IE or Firefox.

One mistake I made earlier though. The IE version installed is actually the new IE 7 rather than 6. I believe when Firefox installs it takes various of its settings from IE if that has already been installed. I will try uninstalling IE 7, load IE 6 and see if this shows the same problems.

Can you post an address to one of these white websites?Fed - Thanks for your suggestion. I have attached a .jpg showing comparisons between the correct and as viewed formats for two homepages. The 'correct' screenshots on lhs are from my desk station, the screenshots with 'white' backgrounds are on rhs.

I've noticed some icons are also missing on the Yahoo homepage.Great work, I can see exactly what you mean.
Can you post the addresses to those sites, I can't quite make them out. They're www.bbc.co.uk and www.uk.yahoo.com. However, all web pages I've visited where I'm familiar with their 'normal' look, are similarly affected.

Ticking and unticking the 'Ignore colors specified on Web pages' is changing my browser alternatively between the screens you put up so I guess I can say, "It works for me"
Have you cleared your browser history & cache and refreshed your screen in conjunction with unticking that box?
Make sure you click OK after changing any settings too.Just to keep you all up to date, I took the computer to work today and PLUGGED it into our site network, wanting to show the problem to our Administrator to get his opinion. Murphy's law dictated that it worked perfectly OK when I did this, web pages display correctly.

I will try it again at home tonight. The only difference I can think of is that at home I use a 3Com wireless broadband modem router to access the internet. I have found that the problem is present at home whether I connect wirelessly or via a cable. Possibly there is a firewall issue in play here. We'll keep the light on. Interesting.

Let me know if you ever fixed the issue.

My dad's web pages also look exactly like yours, all of a sudden.  I'm CURIOUS about that firewall issue, although I doubt he fussed with the firewall.  He contacts AOL help a lot, so maybe they had him change a setting.Ok, I finally got the problem sorted today.

I spoke with one of our network adminstrators at work today, who suggested that the fact that web pages displayed perfectly when connected via my work network indicated a firewall or profile issue. When logging onto the network at work, the Windows firewall is automatically switched off and various profile settings are applied.

Upon trying the computer on my home network, I manually switched off the Windows Firewall fully expecting this to fix the problem. Unfortunately this was not the case, the problem was still present. Eventually, after some more searching on the internet I found a reference to web page display problems in the Firefox knowledge base at

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Website_colors_are_wrong

The suggestion which fixes the problem is unchecking the high contrast box in the Windows Settings at

Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Accessibility -> Display -> uncheck "Use High Contrast", restart the application

I'm not sure why this was checked, presumably as a Dell installation default. I'm guessing that when I log onto my work network my profile settings apply and uncheck this box automatically.

Thanks to all for earlier suggestions, I hope the above information is helpful to others

Many thanks for the feedback. [smiley=thumbup.gif]
