I literally just downloaded Firefox so there is nothing to delete in it. Also tried reinstalling it. Do I first download IE 7, then uninstall IE 8? Thanks.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957700#fixit4meYou can uninstall it first, but you need to have another browser like Firefox or something installed to get IE7 back. If you dont, then download it and uninstall IE8 and you should be good from there. If you try and INSTALL it without taking IE8 off it wont let you, it will say you ALREADY have a newer version than the one your trying to install. Happy troubleshooting. Quote from: nalee on June 08, 2009, 06:14:16 AM You can uninstall it first, but you need to have another browser like Firefox or something installed to get IE7 back. If you dont, then download it and uninstall IE8 and you should be good from there. If you try and install it without taking IE8 off it wont let you, it will say you already have a newer version than the one your trying to install. Happy troubleshooting. No, I'm almost certain that simply by uninstalling IE8 through the Add/Remove control panel, Windows will automatically roll back to IE7, you don't have to install it further. Anyway, I decided not to uninstall IE8, IMO it has some nice additions and improved security over IE7. The problem of IE8 not responding (it "hangs," "freezes," or "locks up") is merely occasional in my case and probably only occurs in certain sites. I will try some workaround when the problem occurs again. Yes, it's true that IE8 also takes longer to start and to open new tabs than IE7, but I don't think any of this justifies uninstallation of IE8. I think the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. At least in my case. That's why I asked if anyone knows what are those "problems" referred in the error message that may occur when I close the busy window. |

Solve : A follow up to IE8 rollback discussions? |
Answer» I also run XP/SP3, and unfortunately "upgraded" to IE8. I tried uninstalling through add/remove software and roll back to IE7, so did the GUYS at the computer repair PLACE when (through my own carelessness ) I GOT a virus (or 12). They said that they WOULD have had to uninstall the SP3, then uninstall IE8, reinstall 7, then reinstall the service pack, and still I might be stuck with 8, or have other problems. I checked the program list and it says IE7, but when I open it up it looks and acts like IE8. Guess I'm stuck, eh? |

Solve : FireFox is restoring to default? |
Answer» For some REASON, every WEEK or so, my FireFox keeps setting the toolbars back to default, and whiping my ADBLOCKPLUS filters. Is there any way to stop this, as it is really annoying to keep adding my filters again.Without any more insight to the problem, I can only suggest disabling all add-ons except AdBlockPlus and see if it still happens. Solve : Banking scams? |
Answer» I now receive several emails every day supposedly from a variety of banks and financial services. These include the bank and financial service I use. They suggest that there is something wrong with my account or that they have a service to offer if I log in. I delete these IMMEDIATELY. They are a nuisance so I would like to prevent them arriving. I know I can use filters but there may be better proven methods to handle this matter. I use Firefox and Yahoo Mail.1st contact your ISP...they can block them better than you can... I almost forgot....install Chrome. I hear google chrome has privacy issues. If you don't disable their auto suggest feature or something like that, google's servers will be able to capture what you're typing and the ip address associated with it and the guys at google can look at what you do on the internet. Solve : c drive has no space how do i install mozilla on d drive and make it run on d? |
Answer» please helphello c DRIVE has no spaceAssuming, Windows is installed on C, you need at least 15% of a free space for your computer to operate correctly. If your free space is getting close to null, ONE day you'll wake up to unbootable computer. Don't even think about installing anything until you free some space on drive C.evreyone says 15 % but its not true the actual amount is 1mb because i had it happen on a old laptop with 6gb hdd and wind xp when it has less then 1mb hdd left it doesnt boot it just shows a blue screen with 3 error messages but free space before your computer becomes unbootableQuote evreyone says 15 % but its not trueYes, everyone is wrong, and you're the only one who knows everything. Stop this nonsense, would you?i DIDNT say i know evreything but the only thing that NEEDS 15% is defrag but if your space is running out do clear some stuff out Quote but the only thing that needs 15% is defragFalse.Broni, you're 50 years older than his maturity. Don't bother arguing with him. We should just explain to the op that he should be ignored as he doesn't know what he's talking about. |

Solve : What is the best broweser to use? Does firefix have compatibility issues?? |
Answer» RIGHT now I have IE, the one that came w/ my computer (don't know what version it is.. but the computer is fairly new) - how can I tell the version? ANYWAY.. I keep hearing that firefox is better and I want to get it BUT I am fearful that unlike IE that works w/ everything, Firefox has compatibility issues. Is this true? Anyone use firefox? What's the pros? Cons? I know there are add ons but the basic internet as it comes is what I am referring to. Is it best to just stick w/ IE? I have also heard things about Google Chrome.. is that good? I am not sure what to do.. any input from PERSONAL experience (not just stats, b/c I can read stats) would help.DLoad and install FireFox to see... IE does not need to be touched and can be LEFT alone... They can run side by side with no problem. Anyone who said FireFox has compatibility issues has his own compatibility issues and probably should not have a PC...QUOTE from: PhantomAgony on June 03, 2009, 08:34:08 PM Right now I have IE, the one that came w/ my computer (don't know what version it is..Click Help, and then click About Internet Explorer to see what version you have. If you install Firefox and/or Chrome, just keep in mind you need to tell Windows which one is your default browser. If, for example, you set Firefox as your default browser, then hyperlinks in email messages, Word Files, etc. will open a Firefox window. According to http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp, Firefox is now used for 47.7% of web browsing. That's a pretty strong statement supporting the popularity of Firefox. I recently installed Chrome, too, just to take a look at it. I haven't used it much yet but it seems to be a worthy contender in the browser arena. So, I have all THREE browsers on one computer. This does not cause problems. Again, one must be designated as default browser. That can be easily changed.I have 4 browsers installed on my computer; IE, Firefox, Google Chrome and Safari. I would recommend Firefox and Safari, I use both them regularly. Firefox is a very good browser, I didn't have any problems with it at all, and it has a lot of useful add-ons. Safari is very easy to get used to, and runs just as Firefox, really good. Google Chrome is also a nice browser, but I don't use it much because I don't really like the looks and I have to refresh some site before I can see them.. Just try some browsers, and then keep the one(s) that you like the most. |

I am going to try this outCool. The hardest part is getting the regular expression right. Let me know if you need any more help. Out of interest, this technique is usually called "web scraping" or sometimes (inaccurately) "screen scraping". |

Solve : Bizarre connection problem with multiple browsers? |
Answer» I am starting an online graduate library science program later this week, with all coursework requiring me to access the UNIVERSITY of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's website (including my e-mail, forums for class "meetings," etc.). The site is www4.uwm.edu. Until about ten days ago I was able to access it without any problems. In the past ten days, I have been able to access it only intermittently, with the browser usually reporting that it can't find the DNS at www4.uwm.edu. When the browser does find the site, about one time in twenty attempts, everything works as normal. This is bizarre for the following reasons: |

Solve : Weird Google Chrome Problem? |
Answer» HI PEOPLE, I have just observed a weird thing with Google Chrome. Don't know what it is. I usually click on the desktop icon which is named "google chrome" but after i CLOSED the program, i noticed the the icon was renamed to "popo" just like that. Anyways here is what happened as well. I noticed the following: I don't know if it serves any importance. The computer has 4 user accounts on it and is running Windows Vista. When i right click on google chrome and other icons, clicked on Properties, and then the security tab, i saw all the USERS plus an unknown account named "UNKNOWN (hfdsj-fhuerfhjdsbfjdsb-cndsffbndbfghdsjdsbv-hjncdgj" with a red question mark next to it. Any thoughts? I installed Malwarebyte Anti-malware and conducted a scan that came back with no results. Then when i restarted, out of the blues, none of the user accounts were working except the Admin. Any thoughts here as well? ThanksYou got something.............. nothing should rename your shortcuts without you saying so. My recommendation is, DELETE the account and run virus software. |

Solve : Disapearing icon?? |
Answer» My computer KEEPS telling me that my hardrive is full and so i was trying to clear some sapce and i saw a button that said it would get rid of all of the stuff i don't use but i think i got a bit confused with the ticked boxes and now my INTERNET explorer icon has gone from my desktop and start menu and programs menu how do i get it back cant you just start it from the start menu? The OP stated that their internet explorer is gone from the start menu so not they cant' start it from there. Also you need at LEAST 15% of your HARD drive for windows to operate properly so please stop with this 1mb stuff. Lyoncub, Right click on the start button and then click on properties. Then click the customize button. Now you should see a section for "Show on start menu" there should be a box for internet make sure there is a check in that box.if you dont find it then use the search in the start menuUsually you can find the Internet Explorer at this DIRECTORY: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer, if not just click on Start --> Run, write iexplore and press Enter. If Internet Explorer starts, just browse you PC and search for it with word iexplore. Cheers. |

Solve : How to Unlock Internet Options?? |
Answer» [Removed by creator for violation of board policy.] You flatter me. If you really wish to, go ahead. The effort isn't being MADE to flatter you. It's to make the morons humble. My intention was not to offend anyone by mistake. Unfortunately, morons are morons for a reason, and I highly doubt their ability to glean humility from this thread. It would probably not be the first time they had been lead, either by example or instruction, not to take an offensive stance to other's point of view, and chances are another example wouldn't do a bit of difference. Yet you remain free to sticky this if you so feel, and I remain flattered.Don't feel flattered. Morons are unable to be humbled so it probably won't become a sticky... |

Solve : I think this is a browser issue--or maybe a firewall issue...? |
Answer» When I try to open my yahoo mail inbox, I get an error message about a script that has stopped RESPONDING. Then I get this: What browser/version? Firefox. It's the lates upgrade, 3.5 or whatever it is. I haven't tried a different browser. I'm not on my home pc right now, but when I get home I'll try that and see if the same thing happens. It appears to be working in Explorer. But in Firefox, it FROZE up my pc this morning. Then again, I just tried Firefox after I tried Explorer and it worked in Firefox as well. Hmmm. There's a chance the issue is on Yahoo's end...last month i couldn't use it RELIABLY for about 3 days.Try one more thing... Close Firefox. Go Start>All Programs>Mozilla Firefox, CLICK on Mozilla Firefox (safe mode). Same thing? |

Solve : I can no longer "preview" an URL? |
Answer» Hello, You might want to run full scans with your AV utility and either Malware Bytes or Super Antispyware Yes. This begins to sound ominous. Almost certainly malware is causing this. I had to clean a computer with this a few years ago and boy was it a pain. I think a combination of HijackThis! and Spybot Search and Destroy finally KILLED it, but I don't remember for sure. |
