Solve : Is there a way to try-out upcoming IE9 beforehand?? |
Answer» Search for a Beta Copy of IE9 if available.Quote from: stevener11 on April 03, 2010, 04:43:38 PM Search for a Beta Copy of IE9 if available. IE9 Beta does not EXIST yet. Quote from: Saurabhdua on March 20, 2010, 02:14:09 AM One of the UNIQUE feature of IE9 would be to make use of 'Hardware acceleration/GPU' & that can only be possible(ATLEAST, much probable) with users of Vista & Windows 7. If that would speed up / improve PERFORMANCE of internet EXPLORER, then I'm all for it. |

Solve : Can't open web URL'S from MS Outlook 7? |
Answer» ???I know their must be a box to check or something, but I have searched. When I click on a web address in outlook When I click on a web address in outlook Could just be me, but I've never heard the term reading pane. Do you mean the preview pane, or when you click on an email and it is full screen? Not the ticket. Still doesn't work. I have been bouncing back and forth with other browsers while I test Webs I am working on, but I had prior to set the default back to IE8. Preview Pane. Does the LINK when you go full screen? There was a suspected virus SEVERAL years ago that could work from the preview pane even if you didn't click on any links. I don't know for sure but MAYBE Outlook was modified so links couldn't work from the preview pane because of the virus. |

Solve : Why is there a no 'RUN' with other browser's Download screen?? |
Answer» Hello There! I do not wish to save the installer onto Desktop or at other place before installing the new program.it doesn't matter what browser you USE it need to download the file. When you select in IE, for example, the "Run" option rather then save as when prompted to download something it still downloads the file before running it.Probably you didn't get my point! I do not wish to allocate an "Exclusive" space for installer(.exe or.msi). I will be content with files getting downloaded in the "Temporary Files" folder as IAM almost 'Religious' with using CCLEANER after every session! So why don't the "RUN" button shows up alongside "SAVE" in other Browser's Download window? Probably The European users will be able to answer it better since they can now make any Browser as default down to its roots! It's probably not an option in Chrome... Firefox or IE...I see your point but I don't see why this is an issue. If you have to save a download before you can run, just delete the downloaded installation file once the program has been installed. You should be able to find it easily. Usually, it will either be saved to the desktop or to the Downloads folder. Soybean! This was NEVER an issue but a simple "Quest" to explore! Ofcourse, users of my caliber are pretty much aware where the downloaded files are getting stored & so forth......!! Again, Why can't RUN be implemented from within other browsers? Quote from: Saurabhdua on April 01, 2010, 12:57:03 AM Again, Why can't RUN be implemented from within other browsers?for firefox, you say save file an then you just have to double-click the item in the download window to run it. the fact that it adds an extra click is redundant since people of "your calibre" never use the Run button anyways. that's for people who understand where the file is going. Quote from: Saurabhdua on April 01, 2010, 12:57:03 AM Again, Why can't RUN be implemented from within other browsers? Why should it?This could actually be a security feature if you think about it.... |

Solve : Which Browser is the Best?? |
Answer» I guess everyone has their own favorite...but is there a browser that's better than Internet Explorer?Or will I just be wasting my time on any others'? I've tried Mozilla Firefox on my old computer and it "seemed" faster, but I couldn't say for sure. Now that I have a new computer(well,it's 2 months old)..I want to go the best route. Worst site in the world for software evalutaion. It seems logical In any case. I hope that you guide me for the better. Thank you These results for Measure the speed of some browserswhat are Sunspider, Peacekeeper, Dromaeo, and V8? u r right http://my.opera.com/chooseopera/blog/a-new-era-of-browser-speedThe Best Ultimate Browser is the one you use...They are all free. I usually use Firefox, but I've also got IE8, Chrome, Opera, and Safari. Like it has been stated several times, it's all a matter of personal preference. Just download several and see which one you like. Unless, you are really tight on HD space, none of the browsers really take up that much space, and if you just got a new computer, I'm guessing you have plenty of free HD space You will also find out that some browsers work better on some sites than others. One advantage of having several browsers, is that if you are having a problem on a particular site, you can try another browser to see if it works better.I LOVE chrome! It fast, light, and very streamlined. There are no stupid TOOLBARS to slow you down, everything you NEED is right there and all the fancy extras are hidden in drop down menus and buttons. It is very bare basic but its fast and very clean. Firefox is great too but it takes forever to open and it just feels bulky and slows down the computer. I like things very clean and small and not many gagets on it so chrome suits me. Firefox is great for the extra addons and cool stuff you can do with it, but if you just want to surf the internet with no problems, Chrome is the way to go.Thanks so much for all the ideas.I wonder which one is the most resource hogger? I'm pretty much gona stay w/ anything linked to Google...since I SEEN this hour long show about Google on something like MSNBC News or something to that effect,I was shocked at how their MAIN office is run and how Google is doing soooo many smart things...has anybody else seen that special that I'm referring to? So I'm thinking MAYBE I'll try Google Chrome or....? But after watching that show about Google,I was amazed! Can't explain it...you'd have to just see it to see what I mean Thanks for all the help!! ;-} Quote from: zf490 on February 12, 2010, 02:12:54 PM I use SRWare Iron: http://www.srware.net/en/software_srware_iron.php It's BASICALLY Google Chrome, except it doesn't have spyware. EDIT: You can also install all the Google Chrome addons on SRWare Iron.Quote from: wohonajax on March 04, 2010, 04:23:17 PM I use SRWare Iron: http://www.srware.net/en/software_srware_iron.php |

Solve : What's Your Preferred Web Browser?? |
Answer» I know not a lot of PC USERS use Safari as their main web browser, but I do. I like its speed, ease-of-use, and especially the Top Sites feature. What's your favorite web browser, and why? I like Chrome very much because it run fast with webpages but not sure why they wanted to bother with ChromePlus I think they like to confuse us. Solve : Favorite internet browser? |

Solve : Fastest browser? |
Answer» Vote for what browser you think is the fastest. My favorite browser would be firefox because it is fast and you can add addons to the browser. More secure than internet explorer.Another one? So you can venture a guess on what i use. It's CHROME isn't it? I know it's Chrome. Go ahead and say it's Chrome. OK just kidding. I would have to guess and say you use FireFox. At least I hope that is it.Ding Ding...we have a Winner...Quote from: Carbon Dudeoxide on April 23, 2009, 09:40:00 AM Another one? Very true. I also like Firefox better even though chrome is faster. I use k-meleon 1.1.4 , its the easyest on system resources and one of the lightest browsers available making it the fastest, i use 56k modem so i really notice speed increase/decrease, and k-meleon is all ill use.Actually, of all the browsers i've used (IE 6,IE 7, Firefox, Opera). I feel that Opera is the best, and this is of several reasons. The main one I think is that it is extremely fast, but not as fast as chrome. However, it is the pheriphals from Opera that I feel it makes it the best browser. Firstly, Opera has its own built in chat client, which means that there is no need to install any other addons for chatting, like in Firefox. Secondly, Opera also has a built in download acclerator, as well as its own torrent client, which again, means that there will be no need for any addons. The whole LOGIC behind extensions in FFox is so that you only install those you want or need....not like it's a big chore.Firefox is the best browser available. It has great support and has soon many useful extensions that I can't live without. I love that i can use Firefox on any platform I use(Windows, Linux, MAC). If you want a good secure all around browser this is the one for you.Firefox may be the BEST browser available, but that wasn't the question. Chrome is by far the fastest browser. Chrome is the correct answer. I use Firefox by the wayEver notice how fast Notepad loads ? ? Do you use it to compose e-mails or type out a resume' ? ? Chrome is not the correct answer.Opera users are just like Mac users if you know what I mean. No offense by the way FireFox The Best Browser, GUARNTEED I Say Firefox Firefox Has It All Dont Freeze Like Internet Explorer,SAFARI 4.0 Dont Lag Like Opera Dont Suck Netscape, Firefox Pwns ALL, Amazing Skins, Non LAGGY Fast Good For ALL WEBSITES Dont Freeze ALOT OF Options, ADDons Bookmarks You Can Litteratily, Personalize Firefox To Your Standard, And Style TorrentIt©Just fyi, every program can lag. Every program can freeze. I just like Firefox because of its cusomability. I wouldn't consider the most stable on earth, but that's probably because I have it loaded with add-ons. Chrome is fast, but as patio said it is not the answer, not yet anyways. |

Solve : Turn of IE? |
Answer» How do I turn of ie. if I GO into IE and put the 0.0.0.0 in the address box and 80 in the other in lan settings my computer wont open PAGES bcos it CANT find the proxy server address. I use firefox and that has no problem, although I did change my sever recently to the google server. Does anyone know a way round this I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to do.Your post is an odd one. What's all this fuss about?: Quote "if I go into IE and put the 0.0.0.0 in the address box and 80 in the other in lan settings my computer wont open pages bcos it cant find the proxy server address." How to turn off IE? Well, I'm not sure what you mean by turn off. If you don't want to use IE, then simply don't use it. Make Firefox or some other browser your default browser and be done with all this. Thanks for reply, wht i was tryin to say was i read on compter hope that to disable IE you had to go into IE settigs tools>options>lan settings and in address box put 0.0.0.0 and in the othr box 80 and this would disable IE, BUT WHEN I DID THIS MY FIREFOX pages wouldnt load because it couldnt find my server address (proxy server as i changed over to google server. seems like IE has a finger in every pie)As was stated above, if you don't want to use IE don't use it. End of problem. But it still seems to be running in the BACK ground some how When i open task manager i have 3 IE exe running in processes which is a bit worrying as i dont use it. As i say ive tried to disable it by USING the procedure i told you about, but firefox wouldnt load pages when i did that.the IE tab is no where to be seen on my 'concious' desktop, but it must be still lurkin underneath somehow.Internet Explorer should not be "running in the backgroung" if it is not open. You should scan your system for malware with both your antivirus utility and MalwareBytes.Could it be that you are confusing internet explorer with explorer? Explorer is a basic part of windows that has nothing to do with IE and it will always be running, but only one copy. If that is the case there shouldn't ever be three copies of it running. AFAIK there is always at least one Explorer process running, then one for each Explorer window you have open. |

Solve : What Browser?? |
Answer» Along with your Choice explan WHY?simple OPERA is better for me I would really rather use portable firefox so I can take my bookmarks back and forth between home and workHave you tried the Foxmarks extension?Nope, never even heard of it. But using portable firefox I should be able to take my fav's with me. Just doesn't work like that since for some reason it won't work at work. I think my profile there is pooched. I'll take a look at it though and see what happens.lol I'm using mozilla firebird. I dono why, but it works for me ^^So why not try it out (Foxmarks)? It keeps all your bookmarks synchronised with a central server so that (if you wish) a change in your bookmarks on any of your computers will be automatically propagated to all other computers.I’ve had too many troubles with getting hacked when using IE and losing the whole system. I changed to Firefox after the last system repair job and find it to be nothing but the best for my needs. Firefox was recommended to me via the techs here on this message board and I’ll never go back to IE. Firefox gets better the more you use it and learn some of the special features. I like firefox more then IE by far because its much more secure and has many more EXTENSIONS. Though IE is slightly faster then firefox. But I picked other(Opera) because I love its clean interface and its much faster then firefox or IE. The only problem with it is the fact that it doesnt support extensions. IE has a very small number of bugs comparing to firefox...and the security is better too...IE has less bugs than Firefox? And is more secure? Have we entered an alternate reality here?! :-?i really only use IE and firefox. just because i never tried opera or any other browserI use FireFox primarily, and ever since I got the "IE Tab" extension I never looked back. I still keep IE around, though, for web testing, along with Mozilla, Opera, MSN and... that's it. FireFox Myths Not all it's hyped up to be, but still definatly my fave. And I'm lovin' FoxMarks too. Thanx robpomeroy [smiley=thumbsup.gif] |

Solve : Firefox slow - Chrome a better choice?? |
Answer» Quote from: BC_Programmer on May 12, 2010, 08:01:39 PM Goes WAYYYYY slower then FF. I thought it MIGHT have been a cache issue, so I loaded my web page a few times in a row in Chrome.Well, that's not the typical experience people have with Chrome. If it was, they wouldn't be using it ... it's just that simple. I have Chrome and Firefox installed on my notebook PC. I have no inclination to defend Chrome. I've mainly used Firefox for the last two years or longer. In the last 2 or 3 months, I've been using Chrome - and Opera on another computer - just to get familiar with them in anticipation of a discussion on browsers as a topic at a monthly meeting of a computer users' group to which I belong. Believe me, my use of Chrome would have ended quickly if it were noticeably slower than Firefox, but it isn't. I find it generally quite responsive and definitely not slower than Firefox. I have no idea why Chrome generates instances of tasks in Task Manager each time an additional tab is opened unless it's a technique that's they found improves speed. But, based on my observation, the sum of the CPU usage shown in Task Manager for Chrome is not greater than what Firefox uses to display the same websites. So, I don't see this as a serious negative point regarding Chrome. Quote from: BC_Programmer on May 12, 2010, 08:01:39 PM Seriously, WHY DID THEY USE MULTIPLE PROCESSES? unless they think their javascript engine is likely to crash completely, they should have just used multiple threads. Read this: http://www.chromium.org/developers/design-documents/process-modelsQuote from: 2x3i5x on May 12, 2010, 11:31:35 PM Read this: http://www.chromium.org/developers/design-documents/process-models I'm well aware of why they did it. And it's still stupid. There is no reason not to use threads. It's complete nonsense. Quote But, based on my observation, the sum of the CPU usage shown in Task Manager for Chrome is not greater than what Firefox uses to display the same websites. So, I don't see this as a serious negative point regarding Chrome. Your missing my point. every process is scheduled based on their priority- Each process is given a specific slice of processor time. IF chrome has 2 processes- it will get twice as MANY timeslices as say, IE, since IE is a single process. This balloons with each "new process" it spawns. It doesn't matter wether that timeslice is used- you still lose the CPU time required to context switch to and from the processes. Quote from: BC_Programmer on May 08, 2010, 08:50:14 AM whaaaaaa? You run mspaint through WINE on Ubuntu? That's just... crazy. Well, unless you mean Paint.NET.No I meant MS Paint. I used it when I was on Windows and it did everything I needed. So when I switched to Ubuntu I just continued using it. But now that I've just installed Ubuntu I don't think I'll be using MS Paint anymore. I'll be using mtPaint or Krita. Quote from: BC_Programmer on May 08, 2010, 08:50:14 AM But E-mail should be handled by something else. when I use the "Send" command in Paint Shop Pro, for example, it uses my default E-mail handler, thunderbird.I fully agree here. Actually integrated email was tried with Netscape/Mozilla and it was not so SUCCESSFUL. Then Mozilla decided to create a new browser (called Pheonix, later Firebird & Firefox) which offered all these extra's in the form of addons. And guess what, it was successful. I personally like the addons idea to ADD things to a browser because not everyone will want say IRC chat.well chromes not as secire but heck its blazing fast |

Did Mozilla use the term chrome before Google released the browser Chrome? How is a chrome URL different than an ordinary URL?Quote from: soybean on May 15, 2010, 08:27:42 PM Well, thanks but I don't quite see the point of them yet. Can you give a general explanation of their purpose?Chrome URLS are pretty much like shortcuts to internal browser files. Quote from: rthompson80819 on May 15, 2010, 08:29:23 PM This references Firefox 1.0.I just searched for "chrome url firefox -google" and it was a LINK I found. Chrome is the UI that results from Firefox's XUL parser. In the CASE of URLs it's probably just used as a synonym for User Interface. This is actually kind of funny. Who would have guessed that so many software TERMS would come from the movie Ghostbusters. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XUL |

Solve : speedup firefox load time? |
Answer» it takes up to 30 seconds for firefox to come after i click the desktop icon; how can this time be reduced?Uninstall or disable some of the add-ins.any suggestions as to which ones use the most resources?First of all, I have no idea what you have INSTALLED. Second, just use TRIAL and error. Start by disabling them all and then you can add them back one at a time and see what happens.Quote from: hchalek on May 23, 2010, 12:40:48 PM it takes up to 30 seconds for firefox to come after i click the desktop icon; how can this time be reduced? Task Manager and/or msconfig should reveal any cpu hogs. Right click an open spot on task bar and choose tsakmanager Start, run [ msconfig ] should reveal unecessary programs at startup time Use IE8 Buy more RAM Buy a faster CPUi'm 79 years young and learned from you both; THANKS. i disabled 3 of what i felt were marginal add-ins, exited, re-entered firefox, and the time was considerably less. thanx again for the guidance.Sure thing.Follow the given steps to speed up firefox: 1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which REALLY speeds up page loading. 2. Alter the entries as follows Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true" Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true" Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once. 3. Right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves. |

Solve : Where'd it go?? |
Answer» I remember a computer user used to be able to access a web page from the desktop. I'm not sure which OS it was but I'm pretty sure it was Windows ME or Windows XP... or MAYBE windows 95. Is there a way I can get this for Vista?Turn on Active Desktop.... I don't think Vista/7 have Active Desktop. It was removed due to some EU ruling or something. Neither does Windows XP 64 bit. Nothing to do with any EU ruling. It did play a role in a US court case however. (The availability of Active Desktop was key to Microsoft's legal argument in the United States v. Microsoft antitrust suit that INTERNET Explorer was a FEATURE of Windows rather than a separate PRODUCT.) Windows Vista replaced the Active Desktop with Windows Sidebar (called Windows Desktop Gadgets in Windows 7) , which also allows components to be added to the desktop. I've actually never used it at all so i should have checked before Posting. Thanx for the heads up...Hi, Please follow these steps: 1. Go to any web site 2. CLICK on 'File' menu at the top. (If File menu is not enabled, press 'Alt' key to activate the Menu Bar, i.e. File, Edit, View, Help options) 3. Select 'Save As' and name the webpage file and choose Desktop as the location to save it 4. No go to the Desktop and open the saved webpage. I apologize if I have miscomprehended this issue. Solve : Firefox > Chrome ?!? |

Personally, the way the tabs reorient and resize themselves in Firefox already pisses me off.I would demand an immediate refund...Quote from: patio on May 17, 2010, 09:16:13 PM I would demand an immediate refund... Of course, in contrast, the way Chrome does it is even more infuriating. First they decide "golly, let's resize all the tabs every single time they close one" (which can make sense in the case where you aren't trying to close multiple tabs quickly), and hey, let's put the tabs in the FREAKING TITLE BAR. I find it somewhat interesting how MS get's "yelled at" for "bad practice" when they simply italicize and bold the titlebar text of Microsoft word (95), and yet when Chrome decides to place an entire UI element in the title bar they are praised for their "ingenuity". Anyway, re the ORIGINAL question- Firefox already resizes and reorients tabs...A link to what you have to look forward to... http://lifehacker.com/5484789/firefox-40-alpha-2-%252B-chrome+like-plug+in-isolation--fewer-browser-crashesQuote from: nadav224 on May 17, 2010, 05:14:55 PM I want the tabs function on firefox to mirror Google chromes. When closing multiple tabs on Chrome, they re-size and re-orient themselves (so it's easy to hit the "x" to close them). How can I do this with Firefox? Is there an extension that does this? The re-sizing is not unique to Chrome. Firefox and Opera also do this. What do you mean by "re-orient"?They change size according to how many you use...they can also be right clikked and moved/change order...Quote They change size according to how many you use...Well, yes, they do to a point. I have both Firefox and Chrome installed my laptop running Vista. Tab width changes on both when the number of tabs open reaches the point where ADDITIONAL tabs can not be fitted into the row of tabs without decreasing the width of all tabs. And, when tabs are closed, one at a time, the tab width is increased until the number of tabs remaining open is small enough that all open tabs can be displayed at standard width. For example, I have Firefox open with 4 tabs open. If I close one tab, the other three remain the same width. But, if I open a 5th one, then all tabs become slightly more narrow. So, at the native resolution on my laptop screen, 4 tabs is the breaking point where tab width either narrows if more tabs are opened or it remains constant if the number of open tabs drops below 4. I SEE the same behavior with Chrome. I believe Opera behaves the same way. So, I don't see any DIFFERENCE between browsers regarding resizing of tabs. Quote Wait for FireFox4....Late June i hear. Quote A link to what you have to look forward to... I was not aware of this...thanks! I use Chrome when I'm at work but when I'm at home I still prefer Firefox. Some of the functionality of Chrome is great but there are some things missing still. I am hoping that the next version of FF will perhaps borrow some of the better things implemented in Chrome. |

Solve : Google URLS? |
Answer» I'm trying to get a link to an I'm Feeling Lucky result (and hopefully do something with that later). I TRIED using however, when we change QUERY to QUERY2 it will display a regular search page. Also, I triedObviously...the page searches for a certain string in the URL and if found, returns the im_feeling_unlucky() function. Quote from: kpac on May 28, 2010, 10:06:16 AM Obviously...the page searches for a certain string in the URL and if found, returns the im_feeling_unlucky() function.I know! But this doesn't: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=QUERY2&btnI=745Oh okay, I see what you mean now. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=QUERY&btnI=I%27m+Feeling+Lucky - redirects, but http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=QUERY2&btnI=I%27m+Feeling+Lucky - doesn't. Is that it? Well then it's simply because there isn't a single best match for "QUERY2" in the listings.http://www.google.ca/#hl=en&q=QUERY2&aq=f&btnI=1 works. Okay, well the only other THING I can come up with is that it uses the most RELEVANT search result from that country's index.Ok...now...how to collect the URL that the link redirects to...Explain exactly what you're trying to do and how you're trying to do it.I'm just thinking...but it doesn't matter anyway...there are already enough bots which do this. |

Solve : firefox 3.6.6 won't open after install? |
Answer» Operating system Windows XP, sp3. After installing Firefox 3.6.6Upgrade, or first installation?I apologize for not perhaps not giving enough information. The COMPUTER is a Compaq SR 2010 NX, 120 GB HD,that belongs to a friend that is disabled. He asked me to check it out as it was running so slowly. I installed a 1 GB of memory, ran CCleaner, defragged the HD and REGISTRY, and the machine, other than the Firefox problem performs almost as good as new now. After the first failed attempt in opening Firefox 3.6.6 after installation, he told me that someone (?) had tried to install Firefox and it would not open for him either. I have not tried the Safe Mode installation as it may be a few days before I can get to it. My research with Firefox and others on the net that have had the same problem have said that the Safe Mode install doesn't work either. I am about ready to install Chrome on his machine, and then wait until the bugs are out of the new Beta Version of Firefox, and try it again. (Anything to get away from IE8) I do appreciate any help. If I do find a solution to this problem I will post it here.I didn't suggest installing in safe mode. I'd like you to boot to safe mode and try to open Firefox.Just re read my last post, and realize what I said. I didn't mean to try and install it in Safe Mode, just to open it in Safe Mode as you suggest. I will try that when I return to his computer. Thanks.try DOWNLOADING an older version of firefox and see if it does any better. You could then try upgrading to the latest version using the update checker built into firefox. or perhaps try installing firefox somewhere else (i.e., some other folder outside of the program files default like perhaps under C:\ or whatever the local disk is for say)Over the weekend I tried all the SUGGESTIONS given to get Firefox 3.6.6 to work on the computer and nothing worked. So I gave up and installed the new Firefox 4.0 Beta. The download and installation worked flawlessly. I then downloaded and installed Google Chrome again flawlessly and both engines work perfectly. It is not worth the effort and lost time to keep digging to discover the anomaly of that particular computer that won't let 3.6.6 work properly. Thank everyone for your advice and help.Pretty intriguing results...and no way to tell what the culprit was...but good to hear you are fixed up... |

Answer» For about a month now, all three of my browsers (Internet Explorer 8, Mozilla Firefox 3.6.3, and Google Chrome 5.0) keep freezing randomly. Windows 7 Action Center has reported to me that "Flash.ocx caused IE to crash.", and Google Chrome said in an error message that "Shockwave Flash Player was running slowly and crashed". This seems to happen regardless of the content of the site I am currently VIEWING at time of freeze-up, or how many sites I have open at one time. |
