Solve : My computer won't display certain webpages?

Answer»
You have 'Java(TM) Platform SE 6 U19' maybe try disabling and install 'Java(TM) Platform SE 6 U20'

That wasn't it. How about in the plugins the fact that there's a ton of different versions of "application/x-java-applet" under Java(TM) Platform SE 6 U19?HM, maybe this will spark some new ideas: washingtonpost.com will work, but washingtonpost.com articles will not.I'd be surprised if it has ANYTHING to do with the problem, but I've got to ask. Did you have the same problem with Comcast?I didn't, but I don't think that's the problem because other computers on my LAN with Verizon don't have any problems.

I'm starting to think it's a virus; one virus scanner I just used said my explorer.exe is infected, so I might try a repair install.According to me this type of problem is basically occurred due to the BROWSER issue. There might be some problem in your internet browser which doesn't allow it to load certain pages. To get rid over this type issue, for that you will NEED to reinstall your internet browser. I also had same problem and I also used this solution to resolve it.
Like I said before, the pages didn't load across any browser, so that wasn't the problem. A virus scan fixed it, albeit temporarily. You're infected...

Solve : FIREFOX - HIDDEN TEXT?

Answer»

When viewingmy local COUNCIL planning application data the Text is HIDDEN until I press Ctl + A to select all. How do I un-hide this text? Sometimes the text COLOUR is the same as (or similar to) the background colour. Maybe you should SEND an email to the site's webmaster.Give us a link to the page or a similar page on the same website. The text is visable via IE7 Browser so I don't think the problem it's related to text colour.

See link below per request:

http://planning.trafford.gov.uk/Northgate/PlanningExplorerAA/Generic/StdDetails.aspx?PT=Planning%20Applications%20On-Line&TYPE=PL/PlanningPK.xml&PARAM0=390920&XSLT=/Northgate/PlanningExplorerAA/SiteFiles/Skins/Default_AA/xslt/PL/PLDetails.xslt&FT=Planning%20Application%20Details&PUBLIC=N&XMLSIDE=/Northgate/PlanningExplorerAA/SiteFiles/Skins/Default_AA/Menus/PL.xml&DAURI=PLANNINGIt would seem it works the way the want it to work. It's just the way the page is built, not a problem on your end....so why is the text visible on the IE7 browser? Tfafford Borough Coucil have told me the text is designed to be visible!
Because they don't know how to build a webpage properly...Web designers can USE different methods to display a page differently depending on the browser the visitor is using.

You need to setup Chrome to be the default email appp...
I don't use Chtrome but someone will be along shortly...I did try the first suggestion but there are two accounts so when it remembers one password and you are logged on the other account when you go to e mail you get the other persons. I went to where you set the DEFAULTS for Google Chrome and it said all defaults are being used for GC that can be. The underlined part...is this in Chrome or IE?
This is in ChromeWhen the Live login-in page opens, you need to click the "Remember me" and the "Remember my password" checkboxes to make sure you don't have to log in every time. The reason is because MSN Messenger and IE are both made by Microsoft and they are being awkward about you changing to someone else's product.I have tried this and it only works if I only have one account . but I have two and when I log on to one it brings up the others e mail when I click on so maybe there is no way to do it.Then what you need to do is repeat the procedure for both accounts and create seperate shortcuts/bookmarks to each...
You should give them distinctive names so you lnow which is which...That doesn't work it just keeps taking me to the sign up page of the last one logged in no matter what bookmark I use.Quote

are two of you fighting or what. MSN, HOTMAIL, LIVE.COM, all is owned by one company is not as if he's taking it personal, he has made his point clear "and click the tick box stating "remember my password"".
@ poster, dont you think the browser will be confused on which account to login after ticking remember my password on two different account?
So my post was in actual fact correct

@poster:

You can't have both accounts take you directly to the email inbox, but... if you have 1 email account hooked up to the internet interface and ANOTHER to the "Windows Live Mail" (Found free on LIVE.com) You may solve your problems. Otherwise I don't think that there is any way to do that.

Solve : Unable to use search function of IE?

Answer»

I am UNABLE to use the search function on my secondary computer(the one I use for searching). When I click on the search/magnifying glass, the search pane opens, but is hogged by Google and there is no search option, only a button to upgrade to IE8. The "customize" function does open the pane with different search service/search providers, and selections other than google can be highlighted, but they do not "take"-still just the google upgrade to IE 8. There is nothing google in the add/remove programs to remove. How can I GET google to release control of my search function? I am using windows XP Pro, IE 6 and Norton.

Thank you for your timeWelcome to CH. Hope you enjoy your time here.
Now, are you able to DOWNLOAD IE8? And, if so, why not upgrade? This would be a good start. It's a very good idea to keep all of your programs up to date.Hi, have you updated your IE? Parrot time.First I'd get rid of norton and use avg. I posted a poll on here to see if Norton was any good and nobody voted for it at all. All the votes went against it.

In regards to the search can you look in "tools>internet options>advanced" then scroll until you find the little magnifying glass and see what it says there?

First I'd get rid of IE6 I'd definitely upgrade from IE6, as there apparently there have been EXPLOITS to the code used for this fully patched browser version (IE6), and this was in 2010.

Remey - As I was saying in my last post though if you could check that and post here what option is ticked, but my reply would be try clicking on the other option. Shut down the browser and restart it and see what happens.

Also, I mean to say welcome to CH

Solve : Open a pdf file within IE6, with Foxit instead of Acrobat?

Answer»

My IE6 opens pdf files in Adobe ACROBAT, which is slow to start. I would like instead to open them by default with Foxit Reader, but I don't find a way. I can only disable the Acrobat add-on in IE, and the result is that the pdf files don't open at all. Is there a solution? If you disable the IE addon you should just get the usual download or run dialog box. Do you see this? Why are you STILL using IE6? Why haven't you updated IE to version 7 or 8?

What version Foxit Reader do you have?

What service pack do you have installed for Windows XP? I suspect you're out of date in that AREA, too.uninstall adobe acrobat reader completely, uninstall foxit reader completely, then reinstall foxit reader. start there and also update your computer so you don't have problems doing things when you can't do SOMETHING 'cuz your using outdated stuff.Quote from: soybean on July 09, 2010, 04:32:02 AM

Solve : Does Opera have their own version of Adblock or WOT (Web Of Trust)??

Answer»

Firefox's new update has the plugin crashing all the time. I just installed Opera, so I need these type of Ad-ons. Thanks. I am not FAMILIAR with the Firefox comparison feature (even though i do use both firefox and opera). However Opera does have a user control ability on cookies which will go a long way to your control of external invasions of your computer. (not of the viral/spyware kind). You can even incorporate the ability on a case by case basis as to whether you want to PERMIT a site to generate a COOKIE. Generally speaking i am in favour of cookies but i do like the ability to chose whether to permit or not.The parameters of choice are quite broad from all-to none with choices in between.truenorthHave you updated your Firefox addons ? ? it asks automatically in the update process...

I posted this subject because Firefox was crashing frequently after it's update. Firefox is working better since I disabled some of my add ons. Once in a while I get a plugin crash. Solve : Can't click on links in email?

For the past few years I've been using Firefox as my browser but recently added Google CHROME to see what it was like. I found Chrome basically took over my email in that any links I clicked on used their browser to direct me. I found I didn't like Chrome that much for a couple of different reasons and thought I got rid of it. Now when I open my email and there is a link to CLICK on,,,,it doesn't open the site I WANT to see. And the same thing applies to a few websites even now when I try to TYPE them in the address bar. Any help would be APPRECIATED. Thanks in advance. In Firefox: Tools - Options - Advanced Tab - General Tab - Put a tick in: Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser
Then click on "check now"
See if that helps.Allan....You are Da Man!!!.....thank you very much. You're welcome.

Solve : Firefox and Internet Explorer both not working.?

Answer»

I am using my desktop to post this because I can't get on-LINE with my laptop at all. On my laptop, neither Firefox nor IE will open. It is a secondhand Dell laptop with Windows XP Professional. I have SafeEyes as my Internet filter.
When I try to open Firefox, this error message pops up: firefox.exe - Bad Image The application or DLL C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\xul.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.

I don't know if there is an installation diskette that came with this computer. Someone bought it for me off EBay several months ago, and Firefox used to work fine. I almost always use Firefox, so I don't know just when IE stopped working, but when I try to open IE, all that happens is another IE icon appears on the desktop.

I have Norton 360 and I think Firefox quit soon after I updated my computer, not sure which update (if any) could have caused this problem.

My computer is low on hard drive space. Could the small amount of memory cause both browsers to quit working? When and if you get the laptop working one of your 1st orders of business ought to be to totally remove Norton from your computer. There are far better (and free) anti virus software programs available such as Avira,Avast and AVG. Although it is certainly not prooven (yet) Norton is very invasive and wants to take over any computer it is installed on. Can you access anything via the web? Email for instance? Why is it that your low on HDD space? What is the HDD capacity? You may have to delete some things and reinstall them. However due to your inability to access browsers that may have to wait until you can. What type of internet connection do you have? When you say "updated my computer" what do you mean by that/ truenorthWhen I say that I updated my computer I mean that when I got back on-line (at the library) after not having Internet for a couple of months, the first thing I did was install whatever updates popped up. It was a couple months ago that this occurred, so I may not remember correctly, but I think it updated the antivirus software and maybe the filtering software as well. I'm not sure if there were any other updates at that time. After this process was complete, and I restarted the computer, the browsers didn't work. So I gave up trying to use the library's wireless internet, and went home. Later I got cable internet at home, and at that time Firefox worked well. Then firefox quit working weeks later.
The laptop is connected to the internet, however. I know because SafeEyes is able to connect. I only use Yahoo email, so I can't check that on the laptop without a browser.
The computer is low on HDD space because I started saving pictures, short video clips of my daughter, and lots of audio recordings on the computer, before I realized that the hard drive was too small for all of that. It is 37.2 GB, and it has 5.43 GB of free space, MAINLY because I've been moving a lot of stuff to an external hard drive. Before I got the external drive, there was virtually no free space left.
Your 1st task should be to start burning those pics and vid clips to CD/DVD's...
Windows needs approx. 15% Free space to run properly...I'll work on freeing up more space. Is there any advantage of burning the pictures to CD rather than just saving them on the external hard drive?
I finally found a way to access the Internet on the laptop. I right-clicked the Start button, then clicked Explore, then the Search button, then "search the Internet." From there I was able to download Firefox and reinstall it.
Now Firefox works, but IE still cannot be opened by clicking the icon. I don't like to use IE anyway, but if anyone knows why the icon doesn't work, I'd certainly like to know. No the choice of where you put your large video /audio files is not relevant to an ongoing issue of not enough HDD space. However often when a transfer is done to an external device they are still retained on the HDD--so make sure once you are satisfied that they indeed do exist on the other device, then delete them from your HDD. The only advantage (and not inconsequential to the choice ) is the vulnerability of these prescious files. A CD/DVD disc is more secure than external HDD's or flash drives as they too are subject to sudden an catastrophic failure. Personal experience known on this subject. Now that you have restored a browser connection you can probably solve your IE issue by simply upgrading the IE software to a higher level if you want to be able to access that browser. However if it is just to have an alternative to Firefox there are others such as Opera that are free to install. I use Opera and am very satisfied with it. Chrome is another. It may be that your current shortcut icon is no longer associated with the IE browser. You could create another (2) shortcut and see if it works--if it does delete the other one. truenorthYes, I just wanted an alternative to Firefox in case Firefox ever quits working again. Thanks for the warning about the external hard drive; I will start burning the important stuff to CD again. I usually have the pictures saved on Snapfish, too.
How do I create another shortcut that will actually work? As I said, when I doubleclick on the IE icon, another IE icon appears on the screen. When I click on the new shortcut, yet another icon pops up. This could go on indefinitely. I do not know which method you are trying to use to access IE. A sure fire way that should work is to hold your mouse cursor over the "start" and chose "all programs". If IE is installed it will appear in the list as "internet explorer" click on it from there. It should open.Once you have successfully opened it via that method you can right click on the open web site and make a desktop shortcut that when used from then on will open that precise page. However once open you can insert the URL for any web address and click on "enter" from your keyboard and AWAY you go. Also the IE access option (once done from start/programs) will appear in the open window on the left hand side of that window and can be clicked on from there also. The list of programs in that left hand window reflect your most recent utilization's of programs. My suggestion to upgrade your version of IE was based on a nonfunctioning current version and an upgrade will overwrite that version and should eliminate the problem of access. What version of IE have you currently installed?truenorthFirefox: Go into "tools > options > Advance > settings" in the settings page make sure that the "Direct connect to the internet" is ticked.

IE7: Go into "tools > internet options > connections > Lan settings" make sure all the boxes are NOT ticked. Re-start your browsers to access the internet. Also make sure in IE7 that the "work off line" is not ticked.
Thanks to all who replied to my question. Both browsers now work!

Solve : Cant import a Java for Opera?

Answer»

Have W7 and had definitely PLANNED to use Opera but the new Java se6 v 20 does not seem to work in my Opera 10.54 which means it doesnt work for my BankID either. There seems to be a java version for Opera but I can not import that one via the Java Installer, it does not work...any suggestions? Use of IE is NO option...ACCORDING to http://www.opera.com/support/kb/view/375/, you only need to install Java in Windows. You do not need to install a plugin because Opera uses the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) on your system directly instead of using the plug-in to run Java applets. yup, possible but it still doesnt work. Have installed latest version 20 in 32 bits and version 17 in 64 bits...At present, I only have Opera installed in Linux Ubuntu. So, not sure what else to advise you. Exactly what is the problem concerning your BankID? soybean...in XP/IE8 the Java Applet automatically started because it is used when entering my bankaccount and after that I can do business online with the bank...in W7/Opera that Applett doesnt start because they say Opera is using JRE and not a Java plugin...so that neceassary applet does not start up and so no me getting in into my bankID...and that means I HAVE to use IE while i am trying NOT to use MS applications.... strange thing: I see now that I have IE8 in both 32 and 64 bits in W7?

this W7 stuff is a confusing heap of both bits types.... Quote from: Peterwolfe on June 29, 2010, 04:05:53 PM

that means I HAVE to use IE while i am trying NOT to use MS applications....

I am sure using a Microsoft application isn't going to kill you. Unless of course you have a crazy gunman standing behind you just daring you to us an MS application so he can PULL the trigger.

Heck you are already using Windows 7 so I guess you would be screwed either way if the crazy gunman was there.

Solve : Toolbar missing in Opera??

Answer»

I've recently downloaded OPERA.

I have a top toolbar with all the usual features - back and forward arrows, lock, page reset, home (which I'd like to change), address bar and search, and the sidebar has bookmarks, widgets, unite, etc.

The Opera Help Tutorials say I should also have a main menu, but I have no inkling of how to get to that and I really would like to get to the browser settings and make some CHANGES, and also to have access to Print etc.

If anybody can enlighten me, I'd be grateful.

I USE Windows XP Home EDITION, Version 2002, Service Pack 3. I have an AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core Processor 6000+, the system runs at 3.02GHz and I have 3.00 GB of RAM. My hard drive is 298GB with 194GB of free space.

Thanks

Solve : Laptop will not connect to the internet?

I have a T61 Lenovo Thinkpad which will not connect to the internet wirelessly. I have also tryed to plug it in via land line and it does nothing. When I attempt to use the wizard to create a new internet connection it does not do anything. Also it does not show wireless internet connections in the connect to link in the start menu. Any ideas of how to fix this/ what could be CAUSING this?

The COMPUTER runs Microsoft XP Proffesional, Service Pack 3.Has it ever been able to connect to the internet? If yes then what has CHANGED? Have you contacted your ISP? Have you contacted the manufacturer of the wireless router? truenorthIt did in the past but that was about a year and a half ago. Then it went through alot of trouble with viruses and such. But now the viruses have been removed and it works for the most part fine. I have not contacted either of them yet. I know its not the router though because I have two desktops on it right now. When i referred to the "router" i was specifically referring to the one connected to the laptop. It could be an internal one or i could be an external. That one is unique to the laptop and could be the source of the problem.truenorthThe laptop has an internal router.Quote from: truenorth on June 24, 2010, 08:06:24 AM

You can get a laptop with an "Internal Router"?I'm guessing he's confusing "router" with "wireless adapter"Yeah that is what I was thinking two but with the way things change now a days you never know what will be out next.Yes Allan is correct--wireless adapter. The o/p if he has access might be wise to try an external and SEE what transpires. Solve : Something is wrong with my browsers (video included)?

Answer» HTTP://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iSZKrAz87s

For some time now, I've experienced something annoying in every of my browsers. As you can see in video, it happens when I scroll up but not down (it happens on every website, not just Msn). First I thought it was my drivers, so I updated my video driver, but nothing changed. I've checked around the internet but I can't find anyone with similar problems. If it helps, I have a NVIDIA GeForce GT 330 video card.
Can anyone help?could be a problem with the card itself. The card is most likly not loading fast enough.

What type of computer are you using?Hmm, it seems to be fixed now.
For some REASON, video driver wasn't fully updated even though I updated it from NVIDIA's hompage. I updated it again to a newer version and changed back to Windows Aero (changed to basic to see if it helped) and the problem seems to gone. Thats GOOD.

Solve : Help please cannot update anything?

Answer»

A few MONTHS back I had a Conficker attack, followed by a fake antivirus attack. I cleaned both of them. Shortly afterwards I seemed to lose the ability to connect to update servers, not all of them but quite a few. I PLAY Legend of Mir 3 that will not update. Windows itself will not update. Adobe will not update. There are a few others but cannot remember who.

Also I can no longer connect to my wireless printer.

I can use the internet FULLY in every other way, browse, download, upload, even play games online. I can connect to other computers in the house and even stream off my laptop to my xbox.

I'm using a laptop, windows VISTA, firefox and a wireless router, I was using windows firewall but have switched to zonealarm to try to fix this, it didn't work.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be the problem or do you need more specific info to help diagnose it?

Cheers if you can help, cheers anyway for looking.

Solve : IE8 Notification Bar Not Functioning?

Answer»

Installed `Miro" Internet TV, got Security Center Firewall notification, opted for ask me later.
Uninstalled `Miro' and no longer have notification bar. Did not change any SETTINGS myself. Assume this was a service that was turned off but which one specifically? Not that I really
miss it, just concerned something may have been compromised.

Thanks for any help.Hi there,

Is there still a problem with this one?

Rgds,
MMThanks for the reponse MM, and yes still not functioning for downloads but works properly for addon, activeX and popup blocking notification. Rechecked IE seccurity settings and have prompt for downloads enabled.
Turned off SmartScreen Filter temporarily but still no change. Thoght maybe latest Security updates for IE 8 might reset something but no. Scanned with MSE, MSRT, MBAM, SAS, IOBIT, HitmanPro, DrWeb Cureit and EmiSoft. Used Revo uninstaller, CCleaner and RootRevealer as well. Can't think it's a malware problem.
Did you have asuggestion?
rhabWhat are you running just now... xp, vista, 7...

Rgds,
MMXP SP3 Toshiba A70 Celeron 2.80 512 ram 40 HDD, MSE, MBAM-ProtectedHi,

Try the following below for me please.

right click on taskbar > task manager > highlight any program and click e, find explorer.exe and then click end process but keep task manager open

On the menu bar in task manager click file > new task (run) and type explorer.exe and see what happens and let me know please.

If you want to do that just now, I'll keep an eye here and you can let me know how it goes. If you are going to do it later can you let me know so that I'm not sitting for ages thinking you're going to get back to me LOL!!!

Rgds,
MMJust to say that when you end the process of explorer.exe the taskbar will vanish completely but don't worry it will start up again when you restart the explorer.exe in task manager.

MMThe task bar disappeared and reappeared as you suggested. Did happen tonote I have two iexplore.exe
running.end the process on the one with the least memory usage.Did that, lost both entries, added again and two entries appeared, both of which show equal usage.
Downloaded some files today, still no prompt through notification bar.um... internet explorer is iexplore.exe, windows explorer is explorer.exe.

This I know, is there a point to be made? I'm all ears. Any elaboration is welcome.Quote from: rhabdomantist on June 13, 2010, 01:26:54 PM

This I know, is there a point to be made? I'm all ears. Any elaboration is welcome.

well, your problem is with Internet Explorer, is it not? since explorer.exe is not related to internet explorer I do not see how messing about with it's processes could solve the issue. You could probably do something with iexplore.exe, but my personal recommendation would be to run IE in safe mode (instructions here.Thaks BC Programmer, was wondering myself was Taskbar function or Windows Explorer would have to do
with my question but not professing to know everything and open to suggestions for something I have not been able to figure out myself, I thought ending and restarting explorer.exe relatively BENIGN and was waiting for a response with the rational behind it from MM. If I were to run without add-ons(I usually right click on IE icon and select from small popup menu)would I then lose the notification/information bar for popups and ActiveX controls? Also, would reinstalling Windows Downloader rectify my problem? As I stated in my original post, I don't really miss this and always check the warnings in the download box anyway. Perhaps because I
download a fair bit IE has thrown in the towel and is tired of reminding me. Sometimes a person may have to concede that the MACHINE knows more about me than I do about it; much like the first car I ever owned. Any further suggestions would be appreciated unless you feel it's time to close this one out. I took note in other posts in this forum that perhaps responding to older unanswered questions may not be looked UPON favorably.Hello I'm back with the problem solved,
Should have thought before to check other user's settings for comparisom. Changed the following,
-Unchecked "Enable Integrated Windows Authentication"- Internet Options>ADVANCED>Security(#10)
-Disable "Automatic Prompting for File Downloads"- Internet Options>Security>Custom Levels>Downloads
Still seems strange that disabling prompting actually enables it and not sure if the first change made a difference as I have never reset that on my own until now.
So kudos to those who assisted me.

Solve : Broken images?

Answer»

It started yesterday... I started to notice that some images were broken in chrome. So, I took the website to Firefox, and I had the same issue... some images weren't loading. The same was in Opera, and Internet Explorer.
When right clicked on the broken image icon, copied the URL, and took that URL to a separate tab, the image loaded PERFECTLY.. For some images however, I got a 404 NOT FOUND.
I am running WINDOWS Vista home Basic, I did not recently install any new software/hardware.
I am running Google Chrome 5.0 beta, Firefox 3.6.3, Opera 10.53, and IE 8.

Sounds like poorly built WEB pages to me....
Yeah, sounds like a broken link on the page between the image on the page displayed and the actual IMG src (image source). Just a broken link really

It may be worth a trip to Our VIRUS and Malware section and follow the info for posting your logs...
This is a low level infection...however it's designed to not only block Windows Updates but also blocks many A/V protection apps from updating as well as blocking any online scanners...

Solve : Can't access secure web site from multiple computers?

Answer»

I have 20 computers on the same subnet, behind the same firewall and single router. I have one external IP that all computers use, and all computers receive exactly the same GPO settings. 10 computers can access a certain secure website while the other 10 can't, site times out. BTW all computers are XP Pro SP3

Things I've TRIED and ruled out: none of which worked
-Using different web browsers (FF, Safari, Chrome, IE) all fail so I ruled out the browser as the problem
-Also tried reinstalling IE7
-Took a computer home, different ISP, and tried to access site
-Tried starting in safe mode with networking
-Tried accessing the HTTPS site by IP address
-The site is configured to ignore ping requests, but trying a ping resolves its IP address for me
-Used wireshark and able to see the website does send packets back, but IE spins and says waiting for reply
-Tried a netsh winsock reset
-Tried unistalling the LAN Driver, rebooting and reinstalling the it
-Compared computer settings and even IE settings to a working computer, they are the same
-Tried logging in as different user and accessing the site

I've ruled out the router as the problem since some machines can access it.
Also, I don't think I am having a certificate issue as the site is a child domain, and I have the root cert installed
Please Help

i took a CISCO networking class and unfortunately i don't remember much abut it but sounds like you have an external ip problem. if all 20 comps are Trying to access the same site At the same time the server might disallow some computers I wish it was that simple. There are actually two sites that we can't access, but one of them is specifically for me so I am the only person that ever tries to access it.

I just reinstalled the operating system on one of the "non-working" computers and I am able to access the site now.
ALSO, I just booted off my imaged OS that is about 4 months old and I am able to access the site from my "non-working" computer. So I think there is a computer setting, that might be causing this problem...maybe an old GPO persistant setting or something. Does ANYONE know if this could be the case, if so what setting? It would have to be a registry fix most likely; reg cleaner was not help.

Well I solved my own problem after a week of troubleshooting. This forum was my last stop so don't you think this was an easy find.
My problem was that TLS/SSL RENEGOTIATION was disabled. Some HTTPS sites require it and those are the sites I could not access.

In more detail: if by some strange reason someone else has this problem....

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\DisableRenegoOnClient

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\DisableRenegoOnServer

Notes:
If the DisableRenegoOnClient subkey is present and has any nonzero value:
The client will not initiate renegotiation.
The client will not respond to renegotiation.

If the DisableRenegoOnClient subkey is missing or is present and has a zero value:
The client will initiate renegotiation.
The client will respond to renegotiation.

If the DisableRenegoOnServer subkey is present and has any nonzero value:

All the PC's work. I'm just having an issue with having to reset the zone settings on just one of the computers when I shut it off and RESTART it sometime later. If I do the same with the other PC's there isn't this issue. Just curious why this is.

Solve : Annoying Disconnects?

Answer»

when ever im browsing the internet i get random DISCONNECTS i know this because it on google chrome browser its says : RESOLVING HOST

and i know i still have internet because i am on a video chat with my girlfriend..

the thing is the all my browsers get disconnected even though the computer still has internet...

is there a solution to this?? ITS IS REALLY FRUSTRATING

Thank you..Disabling the 'use DNS prefetching' in the option menu's "under the hood" tab may HELP. This should solve the resolving issue.

If not, CHECK your proxy SETTINGS. If your not using a proxy, click on "Lan Settings". Make sure "Automatically Detect Settings" is un-checked. Click "Ok".

Final check if still no LUCK:
Start > Settings > Control Panel. Load up the "Network Connections". You will now see a list of the network cards and bridges on your computer. Only one of these is used by your computer to connect to the internet. For example, if you are using wireless internet you will only be using the wireless connection. Right click on each other connection and select "disable". You should only have one enabled connection.

Important: Restart your machine after changing setting(s) to check.Quote from: Azzaboi on June 09, 2010, 10:31:58 PM

On pressing the 'Home Page' button; NEW tab opens up...& pleothra of other issues!

Refer to attached screenshot & help if anything is possible...

[RECOVERING disk space - old attachment deleted by admin]1. A beta is not a full release. It may be buggy and have limited configuration choices. Maybe you did not know this.
2. You don't have to end every sentence with an exclamation mark.
3. If you want a configurable browser try Mozilla Firefox.

Saurabhdua, this is a beta version of maxthon 3, and the DEVELOPERS have already confirmed that it is STILL a work in progress and is not a complete browser with the features all in 'cuz it's still a work in progess.

Use maxthon 2 or a different browser if you want the features you are LOOKING for at the moment.Ya, but then I have never seen a 'Beta Product' ever that is stripped down to such an extent!(Sorry Salmon, can control everything else other than putting an exclamation mark! )

& certainly Salmon, Hope needs to amend the existing 'Checks n Rules' to put an end to frequent !!

I received an email from MS Outlook containing an attachment which was a .vsd file (Visio). My Problem is this, I am able to preview the file using visio previewer, but when I want to open the file completely using Internet Explorer, the browser opens and has a red X in the corner.

Which Version of Internet Explorer?

Hi again,

I meant to say that if the above does not work and if you have used it like this in the past then scan the registry. You'd be looking for any file association errors.

Rgds,
MM

I doubt it's a file association error. If that were the case, IE wouldn't have tried to open the file to begin with.Even though you can see the file in preview mode in IE, to really open and work with the file you will need the full Visio installation.I should have added the full Visio software is about $250, but there are some freeware PROGRAMS. Some of the freeware programs are somewhat limited, but can do the basics depending on what you need.

Hopefully that helps somewhat
You must be trying to run your post count up quickly. You seem to have a PATTERN of posting these little extra comments right after your initial reply. You have a time period - I believe it's TEN minutes - after posting during which you can modify a post. So, no need to make another post just to say some final words. Besides, these little follow-on posts add nothing meaningful. Are you two a tag team or something?

I didn't know about the ten min edit. I'll do that in future. I also made a post on a thread from the 31st May and they got back to me. Do you have an answer for that?

Rgds,
MM

Ps - I'm not trying to up my post count. I've just not had much of a chance to get on much of late so I'm just looking and trying to help the ones that had no resolution. Sorry for trying to assist people. If you both have something to say to me then you can both pm me instead of getting your own post counts higher.I think the edit window is an hour.

And we can all thank our good friend Billrich for the fact that there is a time limit at all. (mostly, but also a good number of help seekers liked to "respond" to replies by changing their original post, which was confusing, to say the least).

You don't understand quite how the people seeking help work.

First, at least some of the people you are trying to "help" have not been members here for months, even years. They will not receive any notification of your reply. At all. they will PROBABLY never know (they deleted their account for a reason, after all).

The others, maybe they will receive notification, but after a year, it's highly likely that they found their solution elsewhere or have already figured it out.

The only positive thing that could come out of it might be that future posters with similar issues can find a WAY to resolve their problem.

However, that simply is not the case. First off, a good portion of your replies are really just interrogating for more information (sensible, because the OP often leaves out critical tidbits, but not sensible since the OP has certainly solved their issue)- asking for more info hardly helps future posters searching for help with their issues, regardless of how similar their situation may be to the original poster. Also, all you did was pretty much re-suggest advice the Original poster had already ignored (to re-check for malware via the malware experts on the virus forum) prudent, YES. but again, it's doubtful (but not impossible, I suppose) that the Original poster has not solved their problem either themselves or through other means.

Secondly, you are rather frequently suggesting for people to "clean their registry" and "fix their associations" for issues that are almost wholly unrelated to either "registry issues" (of which no such thing exists) or file association problems (which are extremely easy to identify and fix).

I'm not about to go into a 6th rant about "registry cleaners" (*censored*, do a forum search, you can probably find the previous ones I made (the one I made yesterday was pretty good I think) or how useless they are, but a summary would be this- registry cleaners fix "problems" with the registry, right?

Too bad there is no such thing as a "registry problem" or a "dirty" registry.

Index.dat is not dangerous.
Of course it can't be deleted by normal methods, it is in use by the system. Conspiracy theories are boring and so is Microsoft bashing.

c:\DOCUME~1\Your Name\Local Settings\History\History.ie5 [edit] This is a hidden folder inside your Internet Explorer history that tracks the urls you have visited.

Absolute rubbish. It is the IE history, it does not track it just says which sites have been visited within a pre-set time limit that can be set by the user.

Of course IE remembers where it has been. Clicking 'back' on the toolbar would not work, opening the history folder within IE to return to that really good site you found wouldn't work. I would be very surprised if Firefox, Opera etc didn't have something similar.may i suggest guest that you use a seach engine for the<<<<<<<< internet explorer>>> http://anutsaka-san.home.comcast.net/yayrant/ieharmful.html and read all the article......Quote
It is proof enough that WINDOWS XP comes with an "auto-update" program so that its users can download and fix vulnerabilities as Microsoft gets around to them.

If an autoupdate program wasn't included they would be moaning about that.

It may seem it takes MS a long time to rectify a problem but have you considered the amount of work it takes? First talk to the person who found the hole, try to repeat it and find what, how and why it happens, then... Write the code to patch it. Make sure it doesn't break anything on any version of Windows with any/all or no service PACKS or updates and then test it on all the different versions of Windows in other languages . And on top of that ensure that it doesn't break any of the third party software. This takes a little time to acheive. That quote makes it SOUND as if they fix vulns in their tea breaks.

Internet Explorer Barrages You with Ads

Web sites and ad-ware barrage you with ads not IE. If you hate pop-ups that much disable java and java script in the internet zone. No more pop-ups. Easy. Plus Java shouldn't be allowed for any site to run it's crap anyway. Same with ActiveX, it should be disabled in the internet and restricted zones. The default security settings for IE are the biggest problem and my pet hate with IE. If it came with the security zones battened down to begin with it would be much safer. The average user hooks up their brand new computer to the inet and doesn't have a clue at what is out there. And it isn't their fault.

I have picked only the more blatent absurdities but if IE wasn't so widely used and Firefox (for example) had the largest share of the browser market then it would be FF that had been studied and exploited in the way that IE has. As FF continues to get more users more holes will be found.

That article was written by someone who, for some unexplained reason, hates MS. It's easy to knock something down but to be constructive, explain the problems, let people know how to secure IE would make it a much more important piece of writing.Ok thanks for your views on the subject.....i still use ie....and its up to the user to decide what is what....after all said and done....maybe other software programs are spying on users anyway....i posted this thread.....to see if people jump out of the frying pan into the fire...Quote

No problems LOL. I was in a bad mood last night and couldn't believe that the article was being presented as fact rather than an opinion.

So do I and I can't see me changine to any other browser. I agree totally, everybody has to make their own choices.

If MS were really spying on us all the database must be rather large by now. LOL
Quote
i posted this thread.....to see if people jump out of the frying pan into the fire...

Not quite sure what you mean by that.

To confirm what I was saying about securing the internet zones MS has confirmed the existance of a hole that has yet to be patched. The workaround is to set the internet zones to high.
http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1833697,00.asp

Disabling ActiveX downloads, active scripting, java script and java within the inet and restricted sites zones makes IE much more safer and the usability does not degrade by a significant amount. A few websites are broken but if they are to be trusted add them to the trusted sites zone.

Firefox is easy to configure for NOVICES.

You know how to configure IE, but many a novice would get lost in the jungle of configuration settings that really do not look all too friendly.

Solve : Explorer fault has paralyzed my system?

Answer»

I'm a total COMPUTER novice, so please excuse my ignorance. A couple of days ago when I powered on my computer it told me I needed to enter the number contained on my Windows 98 booklet. I've had this computer for 5 years so I thought this was weird, but I entered the number and was able to use the computer. The next day when I TURNED it on I got an "Explorer" error box. My only choice was to click "CLOSE" but when I did this nothing happened. None of my programs started, none of my icons came up, I couldn't even see the mouse cursor. I tried rebooting but got the same Explorer error. I even started in safe mode and the same error came up. So basically, I can't access anything on my computer. Can anyone help or has my computer had it? Here are the details for the error message:

So you have, or do not have AOL? More information on your system please...

[glb]Flame[/glb]So are you telling US you have an AOL account but don't have the AOL program? If so then go pick one up at any store and install it.

If you DID have AOL before and you cancel them (good 4 u!) And you want to get online go get another ISP provider.

Are you a dial up or a highspeed USER? Sounds like your a dial up user
