Solve : *** Links won't work on some webpages!! ***?

Answer»

What's happening (I don't know if these problems are related)

SEE screenshots w/description of what happens in red.

I also can't sign in to hotmail because when I click "sign in" I get a blank page and the word "DONE" on the bottem left corner of my browser.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium, Internet Explorer 7, Java plug-in 1.6.0_02 Java HotSpot client VM. Symantec Antivirus 10.0.2.2000. windows defender, windows firewall.

I think this is related to javascript. I've tried opening IE7 with no add-ons and RESETTING IE7 settings. I've also made sure Active scripting was turned on in IE, and I don't think any other programs are blocking it (though I only poked around my security software, not sure where to look).

How can I fix this? Any ideas?

You have a YAHOO account, right? Can you sign on to Yahoo Mail?

Exactly what do you see in your Uninstall or change a program panel for Java? If you have the latest version, you should see exactly this: Java(TM) 6 Update 2.

BTW, do you have Flash installed? I noticed the first image you posted should have some Flash content in the upper left side of the screen, where there's some blank space, to the left of the BOX for Nicole Scherzinger.

Solve : Internet connected, but "page cannot be displayed"?

Answer»

I'm having a PROBLEM with my wireless router. It has been working fine for two weeks, only disconnecting randomly several times after a long time without use, however today it is not working. On the main computer with the modem it says it is connected, however when I click Internet Explorer I get the page cannot be displayed. On my other computer with the wireless it shows as connected even showing the speed and signal strength, but again when I click IE the page cannot be displayed. ANY help at all would be great...I have reset the router and unpluged and restarted EVERYTHING. I am using a DLINK router and a comtrend ADSL modem if that means anything...So no computer connected to that router have access to the internet?
Have you checked several web pages to make sure it isn't an issue with ONE page?
And you have restarted both your modem and router?

If the ANSWER is yes to all of the above, I think it's either a problem with your phone line or your internet service provider. Either way you'll need to call your ISP.

EDIT:
I just remembered... try connecting a computer directly to the modem and see if you can get internet access that way.I did connect the computer to the modem, that's how i'm able to be on here. But when I connect back to the router I get nothing. But I have the internet with my modem, so I don't think It's my service provider? I'm not really sure though I'm an idiot with computers...If you get a good connection with the modem but not the router then try re-setting the router...usually a small switch on the back or a pinhole you push a paper clip into.
What DLink is this ? ?
They will have plenty of info on their site...I have reset the router (held in with a paperclip for 10 seconds) and I still get the same THING...everything says connected, but MSN won't sign in and IE wont display any pages. Thanks for the ideas though!! I'll try anything about now.

By what D Link it's the Di-524 if that is what you mean?Go to Start / Run and type in command and hit Enter...
From there type in ipconfig /all and hit Enter.
Copy and paste the results and post them here...Subnet Mask 255.255.0.0
IP address 156.34.26.244
Default Gateway 156.34.26.244
DNS servers 198.164.30.62
198.164.4.62

I was told that was all you need...if you need more then please let me know...

Solve : Auto connect on bootup?

Answer»

My computer used to connect to the internet when I switched on.
Now it's stopped doing it and I have to connect manually.
How can I set it to auto connect again?

I'm running Windows XP and use Pipex Broadband

Thanks

WHat do you mean? Broadband is online 24/7

Just DOUBLE click Internet ExplorerI don't leave my computer on 24/7.

I SWITCH it off at the end of the day.Post the make/model of your modem and we can go from there, most have the ability to dial a connection when turned on.Hi

It's a Thompson Speedtouch 330 and I'm with Pipex Broadband.

The word 'Alcatel' is included in my broadband connection status

Thanks

This is not possible with that modem, sorry.
Lots of people have had the same thing happen, myself included.Isn't this setup in IE>Tools>Internet Options>Connections?
I'm stuck on dialup and have never used broadband but I thought broadband was 'always connected' without having to dial in as such.
Broadband-->LAN-->Voodoo...
Stop laughing Calum. Not so sure, it's been a while since I threw that Speedtouch in the bin and got a real modem.
As far as I recall though, no AMOUNT of messing around could get around the fact that when I wanted to connect, it dialed in to my broadband connection (if you call it that, that's what it said it was doing anyway).
It SURPRISED me as well, I thought it was always connected but apparently not.
I know with the modem/router we have now, there are options for it to connect when asked (for example when a program that connects to the internet tries to connect) or automatically when it's turned on.
So in that sense, mine is always on, as a connection is made when the modem/router is switched on.
I hope I'm MAKING sense.

Stop laughing Calum.
Who? Me? I never said a word. Just some minor chortles, no laughing.
Seriously, I know the feeling, I was stuck on dialup for a long time - AOL dialup, too - for around a year after everyone I knew had got broadband.

Solve : Internet Explorer chooses which page it opens?

Answer»

I have been having this problem for about 2 weeks now. Ever since my modem quit working and I had to have a technician from our ISP come and fix it my Internet Explorer won't open certain pages. It won't open www.msn.com and I know that it works because I can connect my laptop to my router and it opens them just fine.

Its just my home PC that is having this problem. It won't open websites like www.msn.com and www.staceypeters.unfranchise.com.

I have Norton Anti-virus and I run IE ver 6.0 on windows XP. I have a linksys B 2.4 GHZ router. Please help as it is becoming very frustrating.

Thank you!Have you tried clearing your internet CACHE files? have you done a SPYWARE scan with ad aware? try downloading firefox and see if it will allow you to go to msn.com.
Yes to all of your questions. I have downloaded firefox and it doesn't work with the above mentioned websites either. Also I have ran a full scan with norton's and it fixed any problems and if i run a new scan it finds no errors.

This normally wouldn't be an issue but one of the pages it can't load is my online school page for college and it's going to be really tough to go to college if i can't access my information. Any related help would be greatly appreciated. This might be off the wall, but I have to ask: do you have a hosts file?

Could somebody have edited it and be pulling a joke on you?

Check out:
http://www.accs-net.com/hosts/what_is_hosts.html

"if you put ad server names into your Hosts file with your own computer's IP address, your computer will never be able to contact the ad server. It will try to, but it will be simply calling itself and get a "busy signal" of sorts. Your computer will then give up calling the ad server and no ads will be loaded, nor will any tracking TAKE place. Your choices for blocking sites are not just limited to blocking ad servers. You may block sites that serve advertisements, sites that serve objectionable content, or any other site that you choose to block. "

Just for fun, use the search function to search all your hard drives for
files containing hosts in the filename.

Look inside any found with notepad. Find anything suspicious?

Okay, I did as you said and SEARCHED for "hosts" and found nothing. So I went to the location on my hard drive provided by the WEB site you gave me. Found the hosts file and it didn't have any of the web addresses that I could not access in it.

I don't know where else to look? Is there a setting on my computer that needs to be adjusted. I only have 5 days before classes start. THanks a ton for you help!I don't know if it will come up but you could try posting a HiJackthis log, there maybe something in there that needs cleaning out. (Google Hijackthis).

Solve : IE Lags when scrolling down or up pages.?

Answer»

Hey, Recently i reformatted my computer and decided to get rid of windows vista and start again with windows xp. I installed everything well and their was no errors. But after i had installed XP WHENEVER i want to scroll down a webpage it seems to go down in sections and doesn't scroll smoothly. I have googled my ERROR and i couldn't find a good answer to my problem. I have tried scrolling with scroll lock on and off. and have even tried using a different browser eg. Opera. But the same thing still happens. Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers, sk8boardinggit.Did you re-install your mouse drivers after the wipe ? ?
Also check the settings for it in Control Panel...No i didn't install the drivers. I'm downloading them now. I'll reply if it works or not after i installed them.Nope, Still doesn't SEEM to solve the problem. When i try to move a window for example, Task manager. That doesn't seem to move smoothly, It seems to skip around. Any help?Sounds like you're missing a graphics driver. Have you installed your graphics card driver after the reinstall?Nope, I think it was already installed but that was the 'Vista' version. I may have to download the xp version but i can't remember my graphics card name. I know its Nvidia Geforce and thats it. How do i find out what type it is?Doesn't matter, I found out which one, thanks to my AMAZING memory xD (Sense the sarcasm) and it now works really well, Thanks to everyone that helped. Theres no doubt i'll be back with more problems some day. Thanks to the GREAT community.
Cheers, sk8boardinggit

Solve : Internet Explorer -- slow load?

Answer»

My internet explorer takes 5 minutes to load initially, then after that, the window that has been loaded is fine and WORKS normally. Any other windows of internet explorer (i have 7.0) take 5 mins to load as well. Mozilla firefox took a normal amount of time to load so i'm guessing it's just the program (ie7). This is all new to me because this has never happened before now -- except that now i had recently learned about defragging and cleaning up your hard drive and put that to good use. I used windows defrag and vopt8, as well as duplicate file DETECTOR, a registry cleaner recommended by pcworld magazine, and ccleaner. I also used windows' own cleanup utility and scanned my drive for errors. Upon the cleanup utility's conclusion, it told me it deleted some files that could make windows not work stabilly or something LIKE that -- i have a terrible memory, sorry! >__<
Could all this have lead to a slow ie load -- i mean, this is the only thing i've done differently recently and this is the first time this incident with ie7 has occurred.
Thanks in advance for posts.

edit: also, i tried this and it happened too; the tabs work just as slowly when you try to load a new one.

Another edit: I booted this morning and firefox worked just as slowly in initial loading...i have had the same problem takes a few MIN to load opera and firefox. DONT really know why if you find a fix let me know.

In IE7 try turning off ActiveX controls and re-boot the machine a few times.
Then re-enable ActiveX and see if the problem is gone.

Also do you happen to have a Creative Labs card in that machine ? ?
If so re-install the drivers for it.don't know if i have a creative lab or not, i cannot get into ie 7 to change anything, soon as the screen comes up it sends up the it has to close thing. any other suggestions?? thanks
