Solve : Is there any game creation utility out there to help make a Hellbender-clone??

Answer»

Hey,

I remember games like Terminal Velocity very fondly, and I also liked Fury3 and Hellbender, though I must say I preferred Terminal Velocity's universe for some reason.

Anyway, enough about that, I've seen Hellbender and from what I can tell it seems to be a whole version upgrade of an engine like that of Fury3 and Terminal Velocity, hence the more in-depth environments, tunnel system ETC.  It was able to do good INDOOR and outdoor areas in a level where Descent II, a competitor at the time, only did indoor LEVELS.  Even if I know it's a dead genre on the PC these days, I would like to, at least someday, make an arcade space game like those three games and there would have to be some sort of engine out there that could be used to make a game like Hellbender but with different content, styling etc.  If anything I'd think such a game would be easier to make, whether USING authorware or from scratch, than, say, an RTS.

So, is there any such authorware-software or engines for such out there that would work with a Windows 7 x64 environment?  I've got ideas for the story as I'm an avid CREATIVE writer but the fact is that my creative writing alone isn't going to make the game itself a reality.  So, is there any hints for authorware or engines?  Freeware is preferred, though I might be open to a reasonably-priced option (US$200.00 maximum limit as that is about AU$200.00 - for me, very expensive and I'd need to consult my father - with less than US$50.00 being most reasonable given current exchange rates).

Solve : PS3 backup utility?

Answer»

As some may know. I've been trying to backup my PS3 onto my 1tb HDD but it was not working. I found the solution.. kinda. The ps3 can only back up to a FAT32 FORMAT and not NTFS. You may think... oh well just re-format a partition say 150gb to FAT32 but you would run into a minefield. Windows will NOT format a partition/drive any bigger than (some say 2GB, others 4gb). Other's swear they have done 60gb... who knows, but I can tell you now it aint doing 150gb. I tried a CMD prompt attempt using  'format (Drive letter): /FS:FAT32'  this started up and even stated 'formatting 1500000m' so I was like yeah! Then it stopped part way through with an error. 'File to large'.
I then WENT about half way round the internet reading lots of nonsense to find a program.

http://www.compuapps.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=112:swiss-knife-v322&catid=48:drive-managment&Itemid=193

Ran this program and within 30secs I had a fully FAT32 formatted partition of 150gb.

Now I just need my PS3 to pack in again with a YLOD to force me to buy a new one... but atleast all my IMPORTANT saves/data is backed up.

Just a tail of the nightmare I went through just to back this pile of poop up. Plus now I can run media off it from my laptop, which is cool as I like to listen to music and iTunes tends to be a resource hog, especially when playing games like MINECRAFT.

Solve : LOST PLANET 2 SAVE DATA TRANSFER?

Answer»

How do you properly backup and then use save data from Lost Planet 2 on another COMPUTER or if I uninstall the game and want to play from where I left off at a later time.

1st I backed up the entire folder from users>documents>my games>lost planet 2>

** I recieved an error that my save game data was corrupt once loading the game for the first time.

(the backed up save data worked perfect before when I first played it.)

_______________________________________ ________________________

2nd attempt (after advancing in the game all over again) I tried backing up the same folder again from users>documents>my games>lost planet 2>

AND the xlive folder from appdata>LOCAL>microsoft>xlive

I COPY both folders to the same folder LOCATIONS after the game was installed again (2 months PAST) and absolutly no luck! I still get the same error "THE SAVE GAME DATA IS CORRUPT."

IS THERE ANY OTHER FOLDER I NEED TO COPY OR BACKUP? I have searched google to no end and found nothing for the PC version.

Please respond, any info would be greatly appreciated.

PS. (I am not yelling with caps)

Solve : FONV Wireless Xbox 360 problems?

Answer»

Just wondering if anyone here has any ideas on how to fix the bug with Fallout New Vegas that disconnects your wireless Xbox CONTROLLER if you shoot an enemy. I've ALREADY got a thread going at gamespot (thought it to be more up their street) but I would be grateful to hear any tips from here as well.

http://uk.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=27561345&msg_id=327823960#327823960i hate 360 because of ring of the deathI have the solution! As it turns out, the game WORKS fine on Windows XP. This is because XP is still defaulted to use the 1.1 version of Xbox 360 Accessories (and drivers), where as Win7 (and I assume Vista) are SET to use the 1.2 version. Guess what... the 1.2 version doesn't work properly.

So any gamers on Windows 7 with headaches about fallout NV and your wireless Xbox controllers don't despair. All you have to do is:

1) Uninstall & delete your current drivers for your controller (you will need to connect the controller to be able to remove it). Do not restart yet!
2) Uninstall Xbox 360 Accessories from Programs and Features in the control panel.
3a) Disable your Internet connection (so that Windows doesn't automatically re-install the version 1.2 drivers).
3b) Restart the computer.
4) Go to http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/download/download.aspx?category=gaming and download the software for Windows XP no matter what OS you have (obviously 64-bit for 64-bit users)
5) Install the software and connect your controller to install the old drivers.
6) Re-enable your internet connection, select do not update Xbox accessories, select "Remind me next week". (I've yet to find a fix for that).

Et voilà your controller now works properly.

[Why is 'Reinstall' correct where as 'Uninstall' is incorrect even though phonetically 'Reinstall' = "rain stall" & 'Uninstall' = "un install"?]

Solve : Need For Speed Carbon - Crash with Windows 7 32-bit?

Answer»

Just upgraded from XP Pro to WINDOWS 7 Home Premium 32-bit and found out that Need For Speed Carbon crashes immediately upon execution. Tried setting it up with compatability mode for Win98, Win2000/me, and Win Vista SP1 as suggested on google hits with others with this game crashing with Win 7, as well as renaming Movie folder in game to Movie1 and it still crashes with same result. Below is the crash info. Anyone know of the fix to this or ABLE to run Need For Speed Carbon with Win 7 32 or 64 bit?

Solve : Dawn of War II CR/Ret Graphics Issue?

Answer»

Its that time of year again,

Computer Specs;

Windows 7 64-bit
6GB Ram
nVidia 470 GFX CARD with latest drivers
Intel Core 2 Quad 2.50GHz Processor

Problem;

Game runs fine most of the time, but will occasionally, WELL now quite OFTEN, will lock up, red static-like distortions appear all over the screen but sound continues. Only way out is the power button.

AA is disabled, drivers are updated and windows update has been allowed to run. I have cleaned the graphics of admittedly a bit of DUST but issue continues.

In Chaos Rising, issue would happen rarely in-game but more often in the Army Painter if lingered in for to long.

In Retribution, seems to be the main way for me to exit the game.A PHOTO of my screen when it locks up.

Solve : OnLive $99 Game System: The future of console gaming??

Answer»

What do you think, good or BAD?

http://blog.games.yahoo.com/blog/192-onlive-99-game-system-the-future-of-console-gamingBad.  OnLive and other similar services are largely unenjoyable and unreliable.  While it is convenient, the resolution is generally quite poor, you are often forced to use specific settings that can't be changed, there is significant lag especially when there are a lot of users, and many people are misled into believing that they can play these games on any computer without having to worry about specs (the work is done on their end, but that doesn't mean your computer doesn't use its own resources).  It also eliminates the ability to use mods, which I think is an issue for many PC gamers.

Let's not forget that you have to pay for the service and then on top of that, you still have to pay to play the games.  And despite being digital, the games aren't much cheaper, if at all.  Maybe PC gamers are DIFFERENT, but the majority of gamers I know prefer to have physical copies of games that we can collect, share, trade, or sell.

Granted, something like this is good for some people, but like the PSP Go, a lot of the gaming community is uninterested.  I currently have a free subscription and I still don't want to use the service.I also wonder how GRAPHICS work? Is it similar to cloud?Sounds more gimmicky then anything. "hey look! We can stream games from other places!".

It's described in the article. The game is played by a server on their end and the audio and video are pumped to your side. Nothing "cloud" about it, by any definition.

Solve : Mine craft server lan?

Answer»

heyyy guys , would any of people who play mince craft know how to make a lan server to play with my mates Assuming you are using the "standard" Minecraft server available from minecraft.net (I'm also assuming you are using Beta as opposed to Classic)

you would change the values in the server.properties file; specifically, you want online-mode to be "false" and "check-names" to be false, otherwise it will be required for them to login to the minecraft.net server (I'm assuming that you want a LAN server because they haven't purchased minecraft for themselves).

If it's classic, well, I don't know. Personally, I consider classic to be more akin to a 3-d paint program for kindergarten children, but that's just me.  i own the beta and my mates do i want a to CREATE a lan server for in colalge when me and my mates have break and use out laptops to play it Quote from: blackrainbow on February 02, 2011, 09:47:05 AM

this is a free to play server (just don't grief) 86.11.54.222 it is not ATM it will be up  it will be up around 6 (gmt) is there any particular time you would like the server to be up ..

Craig (Cengbrecht on the forum here, I think) has a server that's been up for a good month now:

mc578.servercraft.co:7777

personally I stopped playing when he switched to the servercraft address. It feels much slower to me.

That and I no longer have mod powers so I can't help people that get stuck in a pit near the spawn point except to throw them some dirt and wish them luck, since the game refuses to let you put stuff down near the spawn point until you get a certain distance from it.... which you cannot do if you are stuck in a pit. Solve : hl2.exe issue?

Answer»

I used to be able to play GAMES like garrys mod or counter strike on my computer just fine. However lately the only game that uses the hl2.exe that is working is the original Half Life 2 game. All other games like tf2, or garrysmod, or zombie panic crash at the "preparing to LOAD (gamename)" screen. I've tried several of the methods mentioned to deal with this INCLUDING CONFIGURING my DEP, TURNING on compatability mode, running the program as administrator, and clearing it with my firewall, and setting dx level to 88 but nothing seems to be working.

Solve : Frequency out of Range Problem?

Answer»

Well here it goes I hope this helps I've been to tons of site looking for an answer on this problem so here it goes. It started off early my WINDOWS XP Compaq Presario system was running fine up until Christmas where it got taken over by a virus long story short had to recover my machine with all my games and in GENERAL files being wiped from the system. Also at that time I installed RAM to upgrade my computer to 2.5gb of RAM around Christmas too, I have a NVIDIA Geoforce fx 5500 video card. The computer runs fine with ANYTHING but a game. I USE Panda, Super-Antispyware, and Eusing Registry Cleaner weekly so I don't think it could be a virus. Anyways continuing on I decided to play Portal/Garrysmod on Steam that day and it comes up with the usual box saying Garrysmod/Portal is loading {Still the game hasn't taken any effect YET} and then it goes to a black screen with the only thing on it is a teal blue square saying "Frequency Out of Range". From there I do not have to shut it down all I have to do is bring up the task manager using {Ctrl-Alt-Delete} and from there I can see again and shut down the game which it says is running smoothly. If anyone can help with this problem it would be most appreciated.

Solve : Some things are normal, but most my games are not!?

Answer»

When i got home after a long DAY at school i was going to hop on a game called League of legends but when i get in a game it goes so slow it is impossible to play. Its not laggy, but the characters are like in slow mo. Same with wow here is a link on you TUBE ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwbd9VWjliU ). This happens on a lot of thing o my computer and its really bugging me. Im not sure how to post my computer information but i know this
Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual  CPU
E2160 1.80GHz
6.01 GHz, 0.99 GB OF RAM
Physical Address Extension
I have seen this happen when you have a CPU that is running hot. The CPU Thermal Throttles and slows the CPU's executions down in an attempt to cool itself by processing less executions per second. I'd check your system temps with a utility like speedfan to make sure its not roasting with the games launched and underclocking itself to thermal throttle.I'd probably open the case and give the innards a nice cleaning ... get RID of all the dust there if any and to be sure there's DECENT airflow.

Just a thought... wouldn't hurt...

There are TONS of older abandonware/freeware RPGs you can find if you dont mind 90ies and 00s graphics.
I found great pleasure in many old gems that are legaly available for free.

Maybe check the relevant sites like http://homeoftheunderdogs.net/ , they have huge lists of old games that are now free to download legaly due to the devs closing store and abandoning the IPs Quote from: Tectonic on February 12, 2011, 02:30:54 AM

you can't "abandon" a copyright or intellectual property. The only reason it's safe is because there is no company left to sue you for infringing on their copyright, not because that copyright no longer exists.

Quote
Proponents of abandonware argue that it is more ethical to make copies of such software than new software that still sells. Those ignorant of copyright law have incorrectly taken this to mean that abandonware is legal to distribute, although no software written since 1964 is old enough for copyright to have expired( at least in the US). Even in cases where the original company no longer exists, the rights USUALLY belong to someone else, though no one may be able to trace actual ownership, including the owners themselves.

BC, Your morality is commendable.
It appears that such noble traits are in the minority.
But somebody said: "God and one man are a majority."

Doing a Google one 'abandonware legality'
There is this item:

but which god?""A man with God is always in the majority." ~ John Knox"

""Any man more right than his neighbors constitutes a majority of one". ~ Henry David Thoreau"

""One on God's side is a majority" ~ Wendell Phillips"
Do you have a point?I think he may be saying that the God to which he refers is the Norse god Loki.

Although I will humour him, and assume he is using the most COMMON definition which is the abrahamic god.

So, despite the ramblings of a few random people who can be quoted saying those things, the question remains-

How WOULD somebody know they are on "god's side"? And what does it have to do with anything in this thread? Quote from: BC_Programmer on February 14, 2011, 07:32:02 AM
And what does it have to do with anything in this thread?
That's mainly what I was getting at.  This is meant to be a video game discussion on a computer forum.  Neither subject has anything to do with religion. The intent of the comment was to make not of BC's rather high standard of morality about using a product , a video game, that belongs to someone who has not defended their rights fully. It would appear that his position is a minority viewpoint.

Hear Ye , thou shalt put religion in thy post.

But is it  alright to talk about Minority Morality Mentality? (AKA 3M.)

Quote
""Any man more right than his neighbors constitutes a majority of one". ~ Henry David Thoreau"

Is that acceptable? Or if somebody is more right than others his righteousness  --it becomes a religion? If that is the case, why not talk about hacks and cracks?

If we find that a majority of the members believe it is alright to steal software if you no not get caught, then it becomes logical to discuss the matter. Logically, to refuse to discus acceptable criminal behavior would therefor be tantamount to promotion of righteousness and therefore advocating a religion. Is that correct?

May I make a post about how to get Windows 7 free? Others do it on their blogs. Nobody stops them .It must therefore be a good secular practice. If you tell me no, you are defending sanctimonious righteousness.

I'm not even going to try to make sense of that.  Let's just stick with the topic at hand, shall we?Wow, It's amazing that STATING the fact that Intellectual Property doesn't magically go to the public domain and become free would cause such a tirade of bullocks in it's purest form.

I never said anything about Morals. Stop constructing straw man arguments. I never said it was alright, or not alright, to steal software. I never said anything about piracy at all. I just stated that IPs can't be abandoned and their products don't become free. Nothing more, nothing less. I was stating a fact. They said it was Legally free. I said it was not. That is all.I would say Halo Trial, but it's just a trial.

I've only played starcraft 1 for about 5 minutes total.

I wouldn't say that's enough time to MAKE a fair judgement.

It was just like starcraft one but with alot worse scenario, a lot worse multiplayer and the graphics of warcraft 3 (almost 10 years outdated).

The graphics weren't that bad. They're a lot better than WC3's graphics if you turn everything to full detail, and if you can't, that's not the game's fault.

The scenarios were a lot more interactive and less about just building up a force and wiping out the enemy. Except in multi-player, where the same old strategy still applies: build a mass of troops and zerg the other player.

I wouldn't say it's the worst thing they've done, unless you are referring to only three currently active franchises, but they have come out with many worse products if you go back to early Blizzard or even back before they changed their name from "Silicon & Synapse". Look at some of the crap they made for SNES, MS-DOS, and Genesis, which of course aren't impressive now, but even back in the day were a joke (see "Blackthorne", "Rock n' Roll Racing", "Justice League Task Force", "The DEATH and Return of Superman").Sorry starcraft 2 in full gfx is pretty much the least impressive rts game of the last few years graphically, I believe.

As for gameplay, it is outdated and done to death.

However, the mutliplayer is the worst part above and beyond everything else on Starcraft 2. That is why the Pro SC circuits of Korea still play SC1 and havent touched SC2 much. Blizzard tried to grab their industry and they ignored SC2 in return.
Battlenet2 offers none of the features that made battlenet1 able to keep SC1 ALIVE all those years. No lan, no ladders, no ability to play with people from other continents and more. Quote from: quaxo on January 26, 2011, 08:14:02 PM

I don't recall claiming otherwise. The first Starcraft was as perfect as it gets for RTS in my opinion so what could they have done really?  If they move too far from the original people will complain... you have balancing issues etc...  I think they got it RIGHT on but that's just imo.

Solve : Help with The Witcher, game crashed, save file is now gone....?

Answer»

I was playing The Witcher Enhanced Edition and I was in the swamp getting ready to head back to the city and I decided to save my game. As the game was saving like when it says "Saving..." the game crashed and the message pops up "The Witcher has stopped working and has to be closed" or something like that. This happened before and everything was fine because I just hopped back on and loaded my save but this time my save file was gone.

I clicked the "Load game" option on the title menu and it just says "No games available to load" or something to that effect. I then went to the game folder and looked in the saves files to see if it was truly gone but it's still there, my save from before is RIGHT there. For some reason it won't load in the game but it's there. I don't know what to do, is there anyway I can recover my save? I NEVER had autosave on because I hate how those pile up.

I really need to get this save back because I put in hours into this game and had almost beaten it, plus I was really enjoying the game. At this point I would just stop playing, I haven't the will nor energy to start all over again so please help. Ok, let's try fooling the game.

1. MOVE (not copy, MOVE) the current save game you have.
2. Start a new game. As soon as you can, save. (if naming the same is an option, use the same name as the old one)
3. Return the main menu, attempt to load this new save to VERIFY it works.
4. Exit the game completely.
3. Overwrite the new save with the old save. (keep a copy of this save in case this fails)
4. Start the game again, try to load your old save.

What this does:
If whatever record the game keeps of saved games was somehow corrupted or lost, this will hopefully create a new record, which hopefully the game will not care if it's the old file or the new one.

Anyway, let us know if it works. If not, I'll have to do some digging and see what I can find out about The Witcher saves (I don't own the game so I am shooting from the hip here). Quote from: quaxo on May 24, 2011, 10:45:03 PM

I'm willing to try this but a few things first as I'm not too computer savvy...

1.Move the save where?

2. I can do this no problem and you can save right from the get-go however it doesn't give you the option to name the save. It just saves and that's it no naming or nothing.

3.Will do

4. Will do

5. How do I overwrite it, in the game save menu or from the folder? and how would I do this? How do I save it in case it fails.

6. Will do

Thanks for the reply, Like I said I'm not too computer savvy so I need a bit more info. One MOMENT, I am downloading some The Witcher saves so I can have a look at them. Check back in a few minutes.Ok, they've got a weird naming scheme for their saves.

Here's an example of a save game I downloaded. It supposedly loads at the beginning of the game, after the prologue.
000063 - Witchers' laboratory-063.TheWitcherSave

Not quite sure what the 63 is meant to be, but it looks like it saves the location name as well (Witchers' laboratory). I keep finding resources online for downloading save games, but none of them explain what to do with them other than put them here:

C:\Users\Username\Documents\The Witcher\saves

Which I'm guessing is the location your current save is at.

What's the name of the file you currently have? Quote from: quaxo on May 27, 2011, 10:03:50 PM

The file is called

"000020 - Swamp Forest-020" I know this is my file because I was at the swamp when I saved

That is exactly how it looks from here C:\Users\Username\Documents\The Witcher\Saves\000020 - Swamp Forest-020

When I click on the save folder (the 000020 swamp forest one) it opens up a really lengthy list of a bunch of "QST files" ALONG with some "SAV files" and a few others and I have no idea what these are. They list a bunch of the monsters I've killed and things I did prior to saving for example one says "q9039_Cmentar.qst             5/23/2011      3:37 PM           QST File         15KB"  there is long list of things like that with different monster listed that I actually remember killing before saving.

I assume the Cmentar is referring to a monster I had killed prior to saving http://witcher.wikia.com/wiki/Cemetaur this was my first time encountering this monster in the entire game and I remember saving shortly after (like 5-10 minutes after) so based on this I know this is my save.

Solve : Running Old Games on DOSBOX?

Answer»

hi all, i have been trying to get the my copy of Blood running on my PC utilising DOSBox v7.2, i have seemed to successfully install the game and go through the setup but then when i launch the game it starts to load up but then an error appears which reads:

"DOS/4GW fatat error (1012): C:\BLOOD\BLOOD.EXE is not a WATCOM program"

I have been searching for a sulotion for this for a while, i came across one forum that suggested i use DOS32A, but i could even get that to run.

any help will be much appreciated

regards
I have used FreeDOS for a bunch of old games that dont like DOSBOX, but FreeDOS is not like DOSBOX that will run side by side windows. I created a FreeDOS bootable USB drive and placed the games on it. Tons of DOS games can fit on a USB stick..lolThanks, i'll give  Freedos a go hey,

After much unsuccessful mucking around with FreeDos i have given in and purchased the game that i have ALREADY purchased more than 10 years ago from gog.com and it runs perfectly, should have just spent that 5.99 in the fist place.
thanks all the same for your help, i think i just lacked the knowledge to pull off what you were suggesting still sounds like a great IDEA and i will keep trying to do it, i like the idea of one thumb drive with all my old dos games,

CheersIf DOSBOX doesn't work, you can run DOS in a virtual machine (which will appear almost the same as DOSBOX). You can download VirtualPC 2007 from Microsoft's site and the latest version of DOS here: http://www.syschat.com/download60.html

Now, you just have to make a new virtual machine (which is pretty easy just using the wizard) and then you mount the ISO file of DOS found in the link and then you can install DOS. Now your done. Put your games on a CD and play them in the virtual machine.Blood has been working fine in DOSBox for me...DOSbox has a list of supported games and Blood is listed as a supported game.I tried VirtualPC 2007 with DOS 6.22 and many DOS games dont like the Virtual Graphics Adapter, especially the older games created for CGA and EGA displays that work ok under a real physical VGA adapter and display, but black screen or error out in VPC2007 DOS 6.22 virtual setup.Virtual PC uses a S3 Trio for emulation.

I've yet to find a DOS game that doesn't work under any Virtual machine that supports running MS-DOS. I have a S3 Trio (the exact same one implemented by Virtual PC) and I can tell you, any problems games have on Virtual PC are the same as they would be with the actual card... I'm looking at you, scorched earth... (That may be what you were saying Dave but I read it like you meant that the problem stemmed from the fact that there was virtualization at work)

Also, as for "DOS 7.1" there are a few points I would like to make:

-the installer says it's "GNU Software". It's not. it's the same DOS, they just ripped it out of Windows 98/98SE and added a crapload of other stuff. It's still proprietary. You can't just slap a "This is GNU Software" on top of something already licensed in another way and say it's legal.

-because of the aforementioned reason, it is technically illegal to download and use it if you don't have a proper license for Windows 9x.

-I'm pretty sure posting links that are "borderline" in this way be against the forum rules.

-What does this DOS 7.1 have over freeDOS? not much, really, at list with regards to running older games. Probably easier to get booting from a flash drive as well, additionally, freeDOS is actually free and there is no question or "gray area" or legal BS to try to comprehend with it (with the EXCEPTION of the GPL, I suppose (is freeDOS GPL?), which is a rant in and of itself)

Nope. "Multimedia" is meaningless. a PC with a 133 Pentium processor, a 4GB graphics card and 128MB of RAM can get the "multimedia" label, so it's largely meaningless.BC, your sarcasm detector must be broken ... I was referring more to the fact that this specific laptop has an integrated video chip from 2007 or thereabouts, yet it's apparently better than modern "gaming" laptops with chips like the Mobility Radeon 5870 (also known as the 5770 I believe ... ah, laptop naming schemes, how you lie). I am thinking it may be that the computer in question is HOOKED up to a usb type (Netgear) network and not hooked up directly to a modem. I am running WINDOWS 7 and have DSL. Quote

that the computer in question is hooked up to a usb type (Netgear) network and not hooked up directly to a modem.
So your PC in question has a Netgear  USB and the connection drops sometimes.
But the PC used with a CABLE directly to the modem works. You must mean a wireless router modem combo. A simple modem has only one connection, as far as I know.

Yes, wireless connections, often called Wi-Fi, can and do drop out. The most common type is the 802.11g standard. This standard was NEVER intended to be foolproof. You may have to change it to another channel to avoid interference.

You could try another adapter instead of the one you have now. They are now super cheap. You would expect a new adapter to be BETTER, but that is not always the case. Maybe you could borrow an adpater from a friend and see if that helps.

The maximum speed  of any  DSL is seldom more than  3 M bps. So even if the adapter only does 11 M bps, it should not drop the connection. Wireless is faster than DSL.

Just try another adapter. Install the right drivers.

I saw a guy on Youtube play Halo on his NDS

That is possible, the NDS is a very powerful device, it could probably run quite a number of ported software like Halo effortlessly.

the vid he refers to is this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqvgjETZT20

note the description STATING the specs:

Pentium 2, 1GB of RAM, TNT Riva M64 PC Chips m775

First, the motherboard being a PC Chips m775 is a bit DIFFICULT, being that that is a Socket 775 and the Pentium 2 was either a Slot 1 or a Socket 7, and required a board that was either (surprise) Slot 1 or socket 7).

Secondly, the resolution appears to be 1024x768. But I'll be conservative and say it's 800x600.

First, the motion blur effect? Not happening. It's not in the Device capabilities of the GPU. It barely supported Hardware transform and lighting. Everything else had to be emulated by the CPU using the software renderer. This included, for example, any and all lights.

You'll also notice that the bump-mapping and reflection mapping and even the pixel shaders are still SEEMINGLY unaffected (the pavement sunlight reflection, in particular). As I noted, the Riva was one of the first Nvidia cards to even support hardware transform and lighting, and now we are to BELIEVE that it magically has pixel shaders and reflective bump mapping capabilities that weren't introduced until years later?

Complete BS. The person who made the video is either a liar or a complete IDIOT who doesn't know the difference between a P2 and a P4, which the system likely is (I can see a p4 possibly running with a Riva, since as I noted all the unsupported features (such as bump mapping) can be deferred to software emulation and with a P4 and a low resolution this might allow for the framerate given. But  there is no way a Pentium 2, at any clock rate, will be able to view it.

Oh, and did I mention that the Most wanted executable has instructions that will only run on a Pentium 3 or higher? because that's pretty important too.

thanks thats what I wanted to know.

Solve : Fable install error -1610?

Answer»

Hello,

I missed the old days playing this game so I tried to install it again but i get a very frustrating error -1610 right at the start of instalation Windows Install CleanUp Utility didn't work so please help...

http://img695.imageshack.us/i/errormeh.jpg/That's an error with INSTALLSHIELD, causes explained in the link (no given solutions for an end user though):

http://support.installshield.com/kb/view.asp?articleid=Q107999

Quote

This is a Microsoft Windows Installer initialization error message that occurs when launching a corrupt Windows Installer-based package. This corruption can be caused by authoring errors in the setup itself, a virus, insufficient disk space when the setup was built or other reasons.

While they don't explain how to fix it, there are sources out there that do explain how to fix it. Seems to be a rather COMPLICATED process though. I wasn't able to find anything relating to this and Fable, but there are explanations for other games that use InstallShield. Search for some of those. If this error occurs while attempting to install a setup, follow these steps:

1.Open the project.
2.Select Build > Release Wizard.
3.Enter a new Product Configuration name in the Product Configuration panel.
4.Enter a new Release name in the Specify a Release panel.
5.Select the desired options for the other panels.
6.Build the installation with these new options.

What do they mean 'Select Build > Release Wizard' ?
-----------------

what if i just try to get an alternative install program if that's possible? As I said, those aren't instructions for an end user (meaning people actually installing the software). Those are instructions for companies making an installer with InstallShield. Hence why I said they offer no solution for you. That's the website of the company that makes InstallShield, and they don't offer technical support for games that use InstallShield. For that, you'd have to go to the company directly, but since the game is 6 years old, you might not have much luck, as they no longer support it (it's not listed on any of the associated companies' support pages anymore).

Your BEST BET is to take the time to search around through Google or whatever search engine you prefer, and gather up some solutions. I've seen them out there, but I don't have the time just now to search for them for you.

Search for "fable installshield error 1610", without the "-". Try other VARIATIONS, like "installshield error 1610".Actually CH forum is my last resort - I ask here only if I can't find a solution by myself. I tried google and got no results  http://www.google.com/search?q=fable+install+error+1610

Solve : Weird 'slowdown' with some games -- at wits end! Help!?

Answer»

Okay, I'm pretty good with COMPUTERS but this has me totally stumped.

Here's some basic info on my system:

HP computer with AMD Phenom 9750 processor
2.40 Ghz speed
8 GB of RAM
Nvidia GeForce 9100 video card
Windows 7

I know it's not the best video card, but I'm not a huge PC gamer so it's been fine for what I run on it.

I used to be able to play games like Civ 4 and Star Trek Online with no issues on lower settings.

But recently, within the last few months, when I'm PLAYING the games I start having some mysterious 'slowdown' during the game. Everything gets really laggy and slow and hard to run ANYTHING. It's like the game will be fine for 5 minutes, then the slowdown hits for 5 mintues, then it runs fine again.

Didn't used to do this until a couple months ago, like I said, and i haven't changed anything on the computer.

I've allready tried totally uninstalling and then re-installing the video driver and I am sure that nothing is running in the background. I've checked during the lag and CPU usage is no more then 20 percent.

I know I've allready run MSCONFIG in the past and pared my system down to running just the barest ammount of stuff. I didn't see anything in Task Manager that I don't reconize, or tying up any resources. The games are also running bare min graphic settings -- I've checked that allready also. And although STO is online, I've had the slowdown hit Civ 4 when running solo as well.

I use AVG (register) as my virus/spyware defense program and it's run a full check and FOUND nothing.  Also done a check with two OTHER malware programs and also checked for rootkits.  Also defrag the drive once a week.

Been playing some stuff over the last few hours and I can mention the following: older games and any program, like emulators, don't have any issues at all. The problem only seems to happen with more modern games like Civ 4 and Star Trek Online.

During the periods of 'lag' in the game, the ENTIRE computer lags. If I minimize the game (but leave it running) and do things like load web pages, navigate through them, or what not, then it's slow as well. When the game is not lagging, I can do all of that normaly. If I quit the game during a PERIOD of lag, then everything clears back up.

And it did NOT always do this. The problem just started a couple months ago.

So something with programs itself is causing the lag. I have allready turned the graphic settings down to their min.

I've looked at the Task Manager during slowdown and confirmed nothing is running that should not be.

Also, my Virtual Memory settings:
Virtual Memory: Total paging file size for all drives -- 7935 MB
Windows is currently automaticaly magazing the memory
Additional Info:

Minmimum allowed -- 16 MB
Recomonded -- 11902 MB
Currently Allocated -- 7935 MB

The only things that I've updated on my computer between then and now was the video driver and Direct X.

And I don't see one hint of malware or something tying up the PC during high perfromance games either.

I don't know what else I can try, but it sucks, cause it basicaly makes the games unplayable now for some weird reason.

After updating drivers it is sometimes nessecary to reconfigure graphics settings within the game. Also try the NVidia Control Panel and adjust 3d settings.

Good Luck!I allready have the graphic settings in the game down to the bare mins and I have used the 3D Control Panel to turn off all extra also.  Same problem.

Actually, you'll be disappointed to know that the typical EULA, including the one with SWBF2, prohibits selling the game. Keep in mind how these things work: You haven't bought the game itself, you've bought a license. You've purchased the rights to use their software. People rarely take the time to read what this license says, but most of them anymore do PROHIBIT the reselling of a game once you've opened it. Funny that they make this INFORMATION incredibly hard to find without opening the box.

Doubtful. While some companies will do this for games that have some problem with their key*, Lucas cut support for this game a long time ago. They no longer respond to support requests for it.

*For EXAMPLE, and I might be mistaken, but I think it was Bioware that had problems with a bunch of Neverwinter Nights keys that got rejected when people tried to register their games. They were issues new keys in this case. The problem was actually the font the keys were printed in. Some letters, like I and 1 or O and 0, came out looking identical.I guess I need to work on my sarcasm

Solve : AvP Gold (and general) Multiplayer help.?

Answer»

So me and my bro wanted to play some older computer games. Mind you, we never really played multiplayer anyway so we both don't have too much clue about how that kind of stuff works. He has a Vista Notebook and I am using a Win 7 netbook. We both use the same network via router to connect to the internet.

Now when we try to host a game, the one who joins can't see the sessions. Tried messing around with various settings and IP addresses and Hamachi, but to no avail.
Anyone with more experience can give us a few pointers?
regards,

If you use it on the same router you don't need to use Hamachi.

And if you are in the LAN and still can't see each other have you tried online?
I may not need hamachi, but we still can't see each other , having tried running the game as admin and in compatibility mode (if that changes anything).

Tried online just the same (via ENTERING the IP address, where we have the same as we connect to the same router) with the same results, thing is we can't find ANY way to MAKE it work.So you can enter the IP address to join a game?

if so do you get an error?I can enter a IP Address of the one hosting the game, but it will still display "No sessions found"And you are sure you have connection between the router?

If you have win7 pro/business you can try
Start=>cmd=>MSG /server:"PC name" "acc name" "Text" and see if the message get to the other computer (No quotes)Only have win 7 starter, so..

And I'm quite positive we have the connection via the router, because over this network we usually send and share files. The only thing I can think of is to update the game to the latest patch, if that won't work I have no clue why it wont work.Considering the game hasn'T been updated for the last 10 YEARS, I doubt there's still a patch I don't know about

Solve : Problems installing an add-on for Flight Simulator 9?

Answer»

This is my first POST so I would firstly like to say 'hello'. Right, onto the matter in hand which is an on-going problem I have had for a long TIME now and despite much searching and asking around I cannot get anywhere so hopefully you guys will come up with an answer or suggestion for me. First of all, I have a desktop PC Windows 7 and have got all the lastest UPDATES installed including Service Pack 1 and many of the .Net Frameworks and Microsoft Visual C++ Programmes installed. I have a clean install of Flight Simulator 2004 (9) installed and I have been trying to install a programme called Ground Environment Pro which I BOUGHT and downloaded from the company's website. Now, this is the second time I have tried this and I always come across the same problems.

When I try to run the programme the first message I get is [microsoft] [ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified. Then I have to press OK...

Then when I get the option if I want to backup my files it won't let me then I just get a series of error boxes popping up saying things like 'Ground Environment Error- The connection cannot be used to perform this operation. It is either closed or invalid in this context'. This series of error message comes up whenever I click on most of the options and sometimes the error boxes do not go away and in order to by pass it I have start the task manager and close the application.

Now, I have actually been on to the company's website via their forum and explained what's happening and although I have had many replies none have worked. Suggestions have been things like making sure UAC is turned off, run the programme as administrator, download all the lastest updates, turn off your anti-virus plus many more, all of which I have done but to no avail.

I googled SIMILAR problems and if you go into START-SETTINGS CONTROL PANEL-ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS-DATA SOURCES (ODBC), then I wonder if there is anything in those settings which I need to change or delete. I don't want to start messings around with it and cause further problems but if anyone can help on this matter it would be most appreciated.

Many thanks for any help you can offer.

Not for TRANSFERRING ROMs. the SD card is for saving data. Unless you have that weird aftermarket attachment thing, then you can transfer homebrew DS games.
Either way, you can't modify them. And you can't use commercial games (well, there probably a way, but again, forum rules would prohibit such brow-raising discussions.

If you are building, it looks pretty stout. As has been mentioned, The Card is iffy. If you want to save some money, go with the ati 5770 card. It is a good performer. Seems a little expensive.  Where are you from?  Also you will have no problems playing those games, but you won't be able to run gta4 on all highs.Old thread is old.Agree about the graphics card I guess that you buy a PC not just for a year and even now this card doesn't have really good performance so if you have the possibility buy something else. Usually I type graphics cards ratings in Google and it shows the rating, here you can find some models which may replace the one you've chosen. Moreover to enjoy all Sims 3 graphics you need a more powerful card...

Solve : GPU caused blackout?

Answer»

Before I start, I will say that this thread has NOTHING to do with a power failure or house power-outage. Thank you for your cooperation.

Well, just today I was using the CryEngine2 SandBox2 level editor, and all of a sudden the screen goes black.
I try to hit the Windows key, nothing.
Alt+Tab, nothing.
Control+Shift+Esc (Task manager)
Nothing.

Finally I hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete and it comes up with the Windows screen asking what I want to do.
I click in task manager and then I close out SandBox 2, I think then, it went black again. Switch back to task manager, close out SandBox 2 from there, and then the screen goes black again, then after SB2 closes, the screen goes back to normal.

Since this game/level editing software requires High-Graphic and system memory, and is both a CPU and GPU hog, it is possible my Graphics processor stopped responding to display commands from the driver?  Either, way, it scared me.

I actually thought my GPU had fried or something, I'm taking as many precautions I can to save my GPU from SITUATIONS like this.

If anybody knows what this could have been caused by, please post your answer here, and what I can do to prevent this.

Thanks!

I've also had a situation like this where the display in the viewpoint messed up, where the shaders and lighting quit, and I just saw white spots floating around at random positions. And the screen was more in a grey-tone.

As I was saying, if anybody can think  of the cause(s) of this, please tell me here!
Thanks to you all!   A overheating graphics card can cause this issue, especially if the sound of the program continues in the background.
My HD 4870 can overheat when my fan dust filter gets blocked and I am in a hot environment.
The game i am playing will freeze on the screen, go black, but I can still 'play' eg still shoot the gun in Modern Warfare 2 and such.
After the card has cooled sufficiently the card kicks back in and it can run stable, of course it wil just heat up again.

Do you notice the fan get louder with use?If you're able to get out to the desktop with Ctrl Alt Del, then it most likely isn't a heat problem, as it would not display anything until it cooled sufficiently. It wouldn't selectively choose what to show. Most like, it's either a driver issue or problem with the editor. If it has only happened once, I wouldn't worry about it.

I take it you're not having trouble playing GAMES, just with Sandbox? Quote from: quaxo on July 20, 2010, 01:34:49 AM

Actually I do have some problems with some games, yes..

BTW, I always crank my fan speed to a fixed speed, which is 50% to 70% fan speed.

Since its always at 50*C or 60*C no matter how high the fan speed is, as long as it is not below 20 or 30 percent fan speed.

I guess my GPU is always cool, or my fan is faulty?
My fan does work, because I can hear it when it speeds up when I control it manually.

I was thinking that because the "security" menu of Ctrl+Alt+Del in Windows 7 showed up, it must've been the display driver that stopped responding to Graphic commands.

Could I be right?Nope. Quote from: patio on July 23, 2010, 08:13:56 PM

Ok, since I cannot edit my FIRST Post i will post here.

I have a Intel Duo Core 2 processor 2.52 ghz
NVidia 250 GTS with SLI and PhysX.
I have 8GB of RAM and 1003MB of on-board Graphics memory.
It is known to be only warming up to 63*C if ever possible by its thermal paste and heatsink/fan cooling, in simple terms, it never reaches any higher than that do to the cooling it currently has.

Is this enough information?  Please let me know if I missed any crucial details.Like I said,

No OS details, I see. I presume that with 8 GB of RAM you are not running a 32 bit OS. That would be foolish. Are you using Crossfire? If you have a separate graphics card, why are you setting aside nearly 1 GB of RAM for onboard graphics?

I'm sorry, I have an Nvidia GTS 250 GPU hooked up to the PCI-E port I believe, Its a one in a slot, so obviously its not onboard.

And the GPU has on it 1003 MB of DDR3 type memory, I think I believe it was.

My OS is Windows 7, if you ever looked on the LEFT(!) side of the forum where User Information is put aside.
It is x64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate. Quote

Hi. Your specs look good and the GPU temps are fine. Seems to be a hiccup with one of the apps, although it could possibly be the card, but I don't think so if it behaves with everything else.

Solve : Efa linker?

Answer»

Does anybody use these things anymore? I'm probbably sure noone uses these nowadays... Anyway, if anyone has or had one of these things, PLEASE tell me if it is possible to put a original Gameboy game (.gb) FILE on the efa linker using the software. For some unknown reason, it won't let me sync anything other than .gba roms...... Help, anyone? It depends on which one you have, but I think most (if not all) of them weren't designed to work with GB ROMs, only GBA.umm... I don't have it with me right now, but i am pretty sure it was 528 Mb or something around that... And i geuss the obvious FACT slipped by my brain that a Gameboy advance cartridge should only support the files it was designed to CARRY (.GBA files).     Thanks for the help, Quaxo! This seems to have gone unnoticed, but it should be noted that it is against our forum rules to assist in piracy and other similar ILLEGAL activities.
