I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card but I only got 100 notes sterling.

I have a Gigabyte motherboard which has on it -3 PCI-1 AGP-1 CNR-2DIMM??? what ever that means.

I already have a sapphire radeon 9550 256mb in there. (is it worth changing?)

The rest of the specs are-

XP service pack 2

Pent 4, 2600 MHz

512 MB (DDR SDRAM)

Any advice is greatfully recieved

Your RAM only meets the minimum requirements. I have one gig and it's just a bit choppy (might be video card drivers though). So try putting more RAM in there. (Make sure your computer can handle more RAM before adding more). Your video card is fine. I have a 256 MB card myself.

I just got Battlefield2, and I've been playing Single Player for a while to trian, but when I go to play in Multiplayer, I can see the servers, and when I click on Join Server, it says to check your Internet connection, as it is unable to connect. I have DSL, and I know that ti works, so why is BF2 not able to join? Also, I have a good ping on the server, so I dont' think that's it. Please help.

I no its not the best spec out there but it shud run games quite easy?It could be a HEAT issue, try it with the side off the case and a desk fan blowing on it.In addition to a heat related issue it's also very likely that this is a driver related issue. Because this issue appears to be happening in multiple games.

I've made a Beta program and I want to find an audience to test it on, a chat-board on a computer site sounds like a good an audience as any. My program is a bit questionable though, the name is AutoAction and it is a program for... well cheating. It's like an auto-clicker except a little bit more ADVANCED. Doesn't decompile, debug nor change the game files in any ways, it just sends clicks and key presses. It doesn't install anything on your computer and isn't a virus/worm. well i installed Bf2 then the 1.12 Patch, start up BF2 the loading screen comes up then the screen goes black, then goes back to deskptop and nothing happens.

Tried reinstalling tried restarting tried it without the patch. Ive updated all my Drivers and i know that my Hardware is compatible with the game.

Any suggestion are apreciated.Well during the instalation of patches a few things can go wrong. The patch was some how interupted or the patch was corrupted when install. I've been trying to figure this thing out. But As far as what I know when you uninstall the game it doesn't mean that it is uninstall there are still fragments that remain in the computer. The best thing for you to do is one you can get a registry cleaner and see if ANYTHING remains or 2 try it on another computer. The only way I can get anything to REINSTALL properly is if i remormat my hard drive. Not an option considering it is only one game that is causing you trouble and not a bunch of softwear.well couldnt i just uninstall BF2 then find all the Reg that are left after uninstallation and use the rege Edit to DELETE them all?Umm I try that and it doesnt work It still remains somewhere on your computer either as a .dll file or some kind of temp file. you can try www.ccleaner.com and see if you can remove and install again. Hi all, i just reinstalled a game called HALO. When i go to run the game, it is saying that direct X acceleration maybe disabled, but it isn't. I've recently been having trouble with slow-downs in an a number of my games. Everything will be working SMOOTHLY, then the action will soundly stop while the sound continues. Then the sound stops, then starts again, then the action starts again. The whole process takes between 20-30 secs, and seems to happen at random intervals (not during periods of heavy graphic intestity). I've NOTICED this in both online and offline play, in titles RANGING from Half-Life 2 to RISE of Nations. I'm currently running a P4 3.2 and a Geforce 6600 GT, with 1 GB of ram. Lately, a lot of simple games have been locking my computer up.
I'm running on 512mb ram, with a Radeon X800xt video card, yet for some reason, my computer completely locks up whilst playing games like warcraft 3, world of warcraft, lord of the rings: battle for middle earth and other games that should not present a problem to my system.
What usually happens is the screen freezes, then weird DISTORTION comes out of the speakers, and EVEN sometimes the screen jumbles itself up. The only way i can get out of it is to hold trhe power switch down.

I have recently updated my video cards driver from the ATI official website, yet the games still lock the computer up! Please help me someone, no longer can i enjoy gaming!Sorry, i now know this matter has been addressed many times, yet i think mine may be different.

Well now I'm officially lost. A few weeks ago, my computer seemed to be on strike. I play Flight Simulator 2004 and Battlefield 2 OFTEN. When I got into the games, they would randomly crash or restart the computer. I tried installing new vid drivers as well as reinstalling SP2, DX 9.0c, and sound drivers. It was working FINE this WEEK, and today it started doing it again.

When I send the report, it's telling me the stop ERROR was caused by a device driver, however I can't seem to think of which it would be.Make sure the updated drivers come from the device manufacturer's website.
Also check the game websites for patches & fixes.

I have a P4 2.8 GHz, with GeForce 4 Ti 4400 TD128 in it, and 512 MB of DDR.



Now, after a few minutes of playing a game (any game), the sound gets cut off for some reason.

Right after that happens, the monitor BEGINS to flicker...

Then it returns to its original mode, but still- no sound, and the monitor tends to turn off and on every few seconds.

It happens to me in any game, all are games that my computer already ran smoothly.
The problem just... started... for no obvious reason.

Even ones which aren't very demanding...



When I do regular office work on it, nothing happens.

But every time I play, the problem occures in minutes- not in a specific point of a game- just like that.



Would you help me FINDING the source of the problem, and fixing it?

GuyCan you test with a known good power supply of adequate strength? Test RAM with memtest86 (free at www.memtest86.org) And also check cooling with the BIOS if possible in the case. How many fans and are they all turning? If you open the SIDE and blow a large fan directly in there does that improve performance, length of playing time?cpu to FAST for the games/or the o/s used more info....Try looking on the game manufacturer's website for an update or "patch". Also, have you made any CHANGES AT ALL to your system just before this happened? Did you download any files? Anything?

The next developer to come out with an XP compatible version of any of the original Lemmings games wins my vote.

I wanted to play Half-life again, just for the nostalgia, and when I go to run it, it comes up with this message:

It won't let me play the game. I have only had this problem on a laptop, never on a TOWER before. The comp is older, Pentium 1 200MHz, 64MB ram, Win98SE. I have run Half-life on a computer exactly like this one, with no problems. Is there a fix somewhere?

Every TIME i play a game (any game) it freezes,It WORKS about 10 min. then I have to restart my computer to get it to work again.

I believe registering it from the begining helps verify the authenticity of ownership. Can anyone help me? I wanna know how to use animation on Adobe Photoshop...? Yes. All DVD-ROM drives accept CD's.

Just MAKE sure your other system specs (memory, video card, processor speed) are up to the MINIMUM REQUIRED by the game you wish to play.

3.maybe you made a wrong SETTING in options.

im embarassed to say that on roller coaster tycoon 1 i cant get my mechanics to fix broken rides, nor can i build a CUSTOM roller coaster. i normally don't PLAY CAMES but this is fun. please help me. Do you have a manual or online help of some kind?Fixing stuff like that is men's work, you don't qualify. Have you set partol areas for the mechanics? Is there a clear walkway for them to use? Are they set to do BOTH inspect AND fix rides?

I recently purchased a PNY 6600GT 128MB AGP and installed it with no problems whatsoever. I have since installed Quake 4 and played the game for hours with no issues.

I just installed Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood and the game runs for approx 25 mins before freezing the system entirely, must be manually rebooted. The same symptom occurs while trying to play Age of Empires 3.

CALL of Duty 2 runs well, but has frozen once - in a different manner so i suspect it is unrelated. Where BIA and AoE3 instantly lockup, CoD2 video froze, with sound continuing for several seconds before everything locked up and sound stopped altogether.

I have checked all temps after each incident and everything is well within acceptable levels. I have checked voltages to my video card and they check out, but i have no way of checking them while im playing a game, only on re-boot. I have ALSO tried the latest Nvidia drivers as well as some older ones, specifically 81.85 and 77.77

Anyone have any suggestions? you guys have helped me out before!

ABIT IC-7 GYou posted everything except your power supply. Have you tested that as well? And the lockup is ONLY on those two games? No other times?ah yes whoops - its an antec 350, which is the min for the 6600GT.

CoD2 JUST now locked up the same way as the other 2, this is its 2nd lockup, first time like the others.

I thought that it might be a PS issue at first also. I have 3 HDDs, the video card, and 2 80mm FANS - but no CD ROM or floppy hooked up. there is also a 10/100 NIC but thats pretty inconsequential right?Can you unhook two of those drives and give it a spin? What about leaving the side of the case off?Temps are all good, I cant leave the side off because i need one of my 80mm's to be blowing on my HDD's all the time, and its mounted on the case. After it freezes i take the side off and check temps "manually" aka does not burn me = within range (after properly discharging myself of course).

The only temp I cannot check with software is the gpu, but the heatsink is room temp . . . i guess it could be a heat transfer problem? maybe some thermal paste . . . do you know any utilities i could get to monitor the gpu temp?1) Sound drivers

5) I'm stuck at the big cannon I can't run RAM diagnostics because I have no floppy discs. and no CD Burner. Lets just assume that my RAM is fine because this problem only occurs in newer games. CounterStrike Source runs just fine.

Good News - Found the problem, from as far as I can tell the graphics card was overheating. By setting all of the performance options and the resolution down as low as possible, and running a fan into the side of my case I was able to run Brothers in Arms for 2 hours.

Bad news - all that work for something that could have been easily fixed with a temp sensor and a program.

PS the big gun at the very beginning?? like the anti-aircraft gun?Yes! That's the one, I climbed up out of the trench then a bad guy popped up out of a hole.
I killed him & now I'm running around in circles.

Of course the one place I didn't look was down the bad guy's hole. LOL!

IVE not had my own computer for very long, so I dont have many games.

I bought some older games cheaply from GAME, re-released by 'Sold-Out Software'

The only annoying thing was that everytime I put a disc in it ran the installation menu instead of the game

They WORKED fine for a coupla DAYS, but all except 2 (I have 6) start the installation menu as normal, and then the error message appears:

Run-time error 50003

And it closes. Putting the disc in, waiting for the menu to (annoyingly) close itself, then manually selectingthe game from the disc doesnt work.

They all worked before! thats what annoys me and (this is a shared com. so I cant be certain) no-ones made any recent changes

I suspect crappy old games & XP are not a good mix.

can any one help me. I am trying to run FIFA 2006 and have run it through damen tools however when i load it it acts as if there was a sticky key on one of the DIRECTIONAL BUTTONS. I have tried the vio with note pad and it isn't accting like ther is a sticky key. can anyone help?Which operating system are you using? Everest Home Edition will tell you all about your computer.ok, i'll try that, i'll post back to tell you if it works, i'll have to do it later though cos i'm off out somewhere todayi downloaded it, but it still doesn't work, so i e-mailed the company that made the game, and they have replied with a load of things that might be wrong, so i will try all them, hopefully they will tell me what might be wrong.Can you post us a copy of what they wrote you?
