Solve : Game stopped suddenly?

Answer»

I have the game Battlefield 1942 and its expansion pack road to Rome. It has suddenly STOPPED working and I don't know why. Me and the rest of my family have not knowingly changed any settings. I have updated the video drivers but it has made no DIFFERENCE. All that happpens when I TRY to start the game is that the LOGO appeares and dissaperes as normal, but the game does not then load itself up. Could we have unknowingly changed an option on the computer to prevent it from working. If anyone has had the same problem, please tell me how you resolved it !!!Try reinstalling the game and get the 1.6 patch.Download the patch first to SEE if that works. Then uninstall and reinstall the game if it doesn't. This is a game you don't want to be without for too long

Solve : Games Freeze on Startup?

Answer»

Hello, I'm having a problem where any 3D game will freeze up the moment I launch the game. I've had a problem for a long time where certain games, such as Grand Theft Auto III won't start because I get an error message that the game requires at least 16MB of video memory (even though I have 128MB). And with 3D games that do work, I get lots of little white dots all over the screen. My graphics card manufacturer says there is no problem with my card, and I also get the problem with the white dots with another 64MB card, but 3D games like GTA III will work fine with that card. I ignored these problems for about a year but now it's gotten to the point where games won't start up at all. I have tried replacing the motherboard, RAM, video card, and monitor with no success. Any help/ideas anyone has would be GREATLY appreciated.

System specs:
Intel Pentium 4 2.2 GHz processor
Albatron GeForce 4 Ti4280 graphics card
1024 MB Kingston PC3200 HyperX RAM
Asus P4P800 Deluxe motherboard
Maxtor 120GB hard drivewhat directx are you running? anyway type dxdiag in the run box it will tell you more and you have mention everything but the o/s?DirectX is 9.0b and the OS is Windows XP Home.what results does you get from dxdiag?and are the drivers up to DATE.And what error MESSAGES--like stop?I've tested both the DirectDraw and Direct3D on the dxdiag screen and both tests show nothing is wrong. My drivers are up to date. When I try to start up a game, the game starts, goes black, then takes me back to my desktop and is locked up for about 30 seconds before it will let me use ctrl-alt-del to shut down the game. I never get any error messages. However, one time when this happened I got a message "Device failure detected". have you tried the patch>http://www.gbase.ch/index.asp?zone=pc&target=patches&id=12620 and are there any problems have a look in the device manager just wondering on the cdrom drive?Yes, this problem is happened with every game, not just GTA III. Games that have worked fine for the past year just stopped working 3 days ago. I've tried doing a system restore but that didn't help, which is why I think this is a hardware problem. The device manager shows no problems with the CD-ROM drive. have a look in the EVENTS log?you can find it in control/panel admin/tools events viewer as you have said its something to do with hardware try unistalling it from the device manager and re-boot then shut down and remove it from the pc* CAUTION IS NEEDED HERE* and then re-boot then shutdown replace the card and re-boot i know it a long process but win will clear out irq and reassign a new one when its replaced but try to save your graphics drivers before doing this and dont panic and it may or may not work but its worth a shot..good luck ok

plz help me!Got the latest drivers for the video CARD?yeah i did and it still does it
i think it may be that its overheating
i just put a new 5.1 sound card in it and i only got 1 fan in the middle and i also have a amd
so i think i might TRY to move the sound card down to the last pci spot.
and maybe GET another fan
should i do this?grantw123....If you suspect its overheating........go into your bios ( dont know which one your using) but if you find the part that refers to pc health you should be able to see what the temp. is in there and adding another fan and moving your card should improve things. I would monitor the temp. Then relocate the card and monitor the temp..........and then try the second fan.
I am assuming that you have checked to see if you have any bugs or viruses present. I also have assumed that your system was ok when you played the games you mentioned .......before you installed the new sound card.
Let US know

dl65 this might sound stupid but i have windows xp home
and i couldnt find my comput temp.look in the BIOS under 'computer health' or somthing like this.i couldnt find it still
but i put in a fan and move my sound card down to the last slot and still it happens
i think its my sound

Solve : Far Cry?

Answer»

Ok.. I have to alter my 'fave games' list. Far CRY is now at the top of the list! Seems a bit buggy (but I'm also using a hacked copy for testing *I test first then buy*) but the graphics and audio are beautiful not to mention the AI and physics. I'm getting emotional here just thinking about it. I've yet to try multiplayer but the soloplay is so good I may never get around to multi. This GAME is a must for and FPS enthusiast. I can't believe I'm at work for another 7 hrs before I can play again.Yep its a brilliant game. You should try the 'sandbox' it is really fun once you learn how to do basic things.

i think i have too much FREE time....Do you have a legit copy? If so, do you find you sometimes get exceptions when loading the next mission? I'll often get about 2 missions done then have to restart the game due to an unhandled exception. My version is cracked so it could be beta or SOMETHING. Other than that problem, it may be the best FPS I've had the pleasure of playing.I am also using a cracked version and I have never had any problems with it. There was a beta leaked some time ago but i do not think it was the full game so CHANCES are you are using the full version.

Solve : RUnning a game that is very old?

Answer»

I recently purchased a Kings Quest V game that was made in 1991. I have Windows XP, and I was wondering if there is anyhting out there that can make the game play on my computer. I put it in the CD rom and it doesn't even start. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Did you use the compatability tab?I don't even know what that is! Where do I find it?right click on the file that will run the game,
then GO to the compatability tab[look in the window,u will find it]
then check the "Run this program in compatability mode for..."
then choose win 95,if that doesnt work try the other Opertion system's,if even this wont work im clueless:)ALRIGHT I understand how to do that, but I don't know where to find the file that will run the program. When I put the CD in nothing happens, and I don't know where to find the game. Where do I look to find the file? Sorry, I am not very good with computers :-/Also what does Runtime Error 91 mean?I just wanted to say I got the game running, but the sound won't work. Any suggestions?Open Internet Explorer - click Tools - Internet Options - Advanced. Make sure Disable script debugging is ticked and Display a notification about every script error is unticked then Apply and OK your way out relates to runtime errors. to test sound type dxdiag in the run boxMy sound works fine, but when I run the game it says "unable to initialize AUDIO hardware" I dont know what that meanscodecs problem you can try this if you wish>http://www.callwave.com/members/help/help.asp?item=SEARCH_codecXP maybe you should look here first>http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/howto/gethelp/appcompat.aspThanks so much for your help, but when I do the compatability one it only lets me go back to indows 95, and the game says Windows 3.0 Does that mean I will never get it to work. It says it installs it on Win 95, but then when I select it an error message comes up that says "PANIC: Insufficient Local Memory: 36966." Do you have any idea what that means. Am I screwed? Cause I REALLY want this game to work, I mean it plays, but there is no sound, and only on the game. The sound plays everywhere else. And when the game does play it seems to be playing fine, with the grapichs and all. I just don't get it!!!more info for you on this game thing>http://www-personal.umd.umich.edu/~jgossiau/EMU/Emulators.htmI hope I am not annoying you too much with all these questions. ALright so I downloaded the sound thing, and now the game just bleeps all the time, there is still no talking and it still says the same thing, "unable to initialize audio hardware" but the sound thing I downloaded said it works with this game so I don't understand why it still has no sound. I keep reading this stuff about the computer being to fast, could that be the problem? So I have sound now, but still no talking. COuld it be the game? Or is there any way you know of to get talking to happen?its winxp thats the problem it sometimes has problems with older games this is due to m$soft cornering the market and hoping people will buy their games either search for a cheapo machine that will play your old games or you could buy a hard drive with an old operating system on it win 3.0 and have it as a slave with your winxp sorry cant be much help with the game problem but thats life old verses the new?or burn the game disc and play it on a playstation?or try this i am not sure if it will work>http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4152.html

theres were my FAVORITE games when i was younger, and i know absolutely NOTHING about computers, so i dont know how to tell if it will work by looking at the requirements or anything like that.
i was just wondering if any of you had tried yourselves.

thanks!
email me if you can!
[emailprotected]XP has the ability to run applications/games in different modes. You can set it to run your game in Win95 or whatever mode the game calls for. It can be hit or miss though so you might want to check out the game websites and look for support LINKS or threads that deal with PLAYING the game in XP and how individuals managed it.

You could try repairing your browser, INSTALLING the latest Macromedia Flash/Shockwave, and/or the latest Sun Java virtual machine. I don't know what your browser is THOUGH (guessing Internet Explorer, but perhaps you don't have the latest version), and exactly what type of games Slingo offers (Flash/Shockwave/Java/Other?).What's your internet connection. Diane P. i used to have a similar problem trying to play counterstrike online with an old duron 750mhz. If you increase your ram would would probably see a fairly large improvement. Solve : question about Sanitarium?

Answer»

In chapter two, in order to electrocute "Mother", you need gas from the wrecked car to start the generator, but in my game, the gas can I'm supposed to have access to isn't there. Has anyone else RAN across this problem? Will this problem be resolved with the patch?

THANKS! I do not recall running across this issue when playing the game and unfortunately do not believe that the issue will be resolved by the patch. The patch is used to fix freezing up issues with crossing the stream.

It's likely the can is not showing up because something has not been done, may want to go AROUND TOWN and make SURE everything is done. Try reviewing a walkthrough such as the below link to make sure everything was done.

Solve : New Game: FarCry?

Answer»

This game is brilliant, it has some of the best graphics i have ever seen, and that is at meium settings (they go up to very high ).
It has the most advanced physics in any game availible (Havok 2) so enemies have rag doll characteristcs even before they die. Also practically all objects have a mass and can be moved about. It has a cool (but unoriginal) story and good LEVELS too.

Driveable Forklifts. yay.

By itself the game is very good but with the inclusion of the idiotproof 'sandbox' (level editor thingy) its insanely good.
Heres some cool stuff you can do with the editor.

Catapult

Hmmm, this looks a bit dangerous....

Physics are cool...

You can CHANGE the size of PRETTY much ANYTHING in the game (except people and animals) to whatever you want, this INCLUDES vehicles ect (which are still drivable).

In Conclusion
wow

looks like a really great one, Ill check it out soon

Solve : Lineage II?

Answer»

So I just got into the OPEN Beta of Lineage II a MMORPG game that I WOULD highly recommend everyone check out. ALTHOUGH the game is experiencing ISSUES that are being worked on the game is an Open Beta available to everyone for free for Two weeks. What makes this game different from any other Beta's I've participated in is that you can continue to play your character when the game is released to the public.

I'm currently on the bartz server as "Techno"

Solve : is MS Solitair Collection considered a computer game?

Answer»

Yes, I know the obvious that it is a GAME and I play it on my computer. But for the REAL GAMER i'm not sure if this light weight is considered in the same CATEGORY

I've asked in that game if anyone was willing to post a yourtube of them playing a few of the games mostly because I'd like to WATCH the moves. On a great DAY when I had eye's I was PRETTY good but in a few of the games I can't see the cards being played as fast as their scores indicate. Are there robotic devices that play the game in the name of the player?

I thought about offering money to watch but for all I know I would be banned for such an offer.

Thoughts?

Solve : Low FPS with Low GPU usage - New issue on an older setup?

Answer»

Hi everyone,

I've been having recent issues with low FPS on certain 3D games with low GPU USAGE and low FPS and have not been able to find a solid answer as to why. I was able to play games like Sea of THIEVES and Shadow of War with 144 FPS 6 months ago, but now these games along with most other 3D games such as It Takes Two or A Way Out run at 3-38 FPS. Oddly enough, I can still play Overwatch and Fall Guys with normal 120-144 FPS without issue. Other online games like League of Legends also run fine. I haven't downloaded any new software aside from GPU and Windows updates. Here are my specs from user benchmark:

Computer Type: Desktop
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 2060 Super, No overclock/undervolt, VRAM is 8192 MB
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600x , No overclock/undervolt
Motherboard: MBD: Asrock B450 Gaming K4 - BIOS V. 3.50
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200 C16 2x8GB, No overclock
PSU: Corsair CX650 650 Watt 80 Plus Bronze
Operating System & Version: Windows 10 64 bit clean install
GPU Drivers: GeForce Game Ready Driver 497.29

Things I have tried:

Reinstalling graphics driver and resetting 3D settings on GeForce Experience/Control Panel

Reverting to old graphics driver version prior to the issues

Disabling all overlays

Uninstalling and reinstalling the games

Changing my MBD settings to have the XMP Profile 2.0 to increase Ram performance (done after the benchmark setting you see above; still no improvement)

Checking CPU/GPU usage via Task manager. GPU shows 1-4% usage during Shadow of War on ultra settings (what I used to play on). CPU is running around 40% during gameplay.

Things I have read about but am too afraid to try/have not yet done because I feel uncomfortable doing so at my skill level:

Updating BIOS

Updating other drivers on MOBO such as AMD Chipset/etc (I really just don't wanna mess with the MOBO stuff)

Overclocking (I don't see how this would fix anything because everything ran smoothly like 6 months ago)

I really have nowhere else to turn to, and will appreciate any advice I can get on this bizarre issue. I just want to be able to play games again because it is one of the few things that brings pure joy into my LIFE. Thank you all in advance and please let me know if there's any way I can give more information to help you help me!

P.S. I'm currently a medical resident so I apologize if my responses aren't very timely as I'm usually pretty BUSY at work!If able to get an older copy of the video card driver, I'd roll back the driver to the video card to the version that you had last when it was running ok, as its a likely cause of the issue. Sometimes bug fixes etc can cause problems with games that ran better before the fixes.

Solve : d3d11.dll caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005) in module d3d11.dll?

Answer»

Hello, I have been struggling with this issue for some time now:

When playing the game "Genshin Impact" after a few minutes or hours the screen will eventualy freeze, while the audio continues to play in the background. Upon INVESTIGATING the crash log it says: d3d11.dll caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005) in module d3d11.dll at 0033:2e6f98a0. I have uninstalled my NVIDIA drivers with DDU and installed the latest version, as well as VERSIONS from 2020, 2019, 2018... but it made no difference. I have checked dxdiag (https://paste.ee/p/wkUGQ ) and my directx is up to date. I have also installed the latest version of VC_redist and NET Framework. CrystalDiskInfo shows no health PROBLEMS. GpuMemTest also shows no errors with my GPU. Memtest86 passed my RAM sticks. sfc /scannow also detects no errors.
I have tried the usual suspects for Genshin online (windows 8 compatibility, fullscreen OPTIMIZATIONS, verifying game files, uninstalling/reinstalling, changing game resolution, etc.)

The minimum requirements for the game are: CPU: Intel Core i5. Storage: 30GB. GPU: Nvidia GeForce 1030. RAM: 8GB. Direct X: Version 11.
Here are my specs: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/46053629 . I feel I should be able to run the game without problems.

Here are the two logs I have been able to find: (error log) https://pastebin.com/t5DZAczn and (output log) https://paste.ee/p/PeBEZ .

Thank you in advance. If you have any overclock set for CPU or GPU try it with the system running normal clock speeds.

Additionally finding lots of issues with the 1050 ti and this error message on the web. Maybe try a DIFFERENT video card if possible to see if it clears up. https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/geforce-graphics-cards/5/402649/d3d11dll-crash-on-games-or-apps/?topicPage=9I believe neither my GPU or CPU are OC. Unfortunately I can't change my GPU at this time. Perhaps I could try to downclock my GPU? Here is a GPUZ screencap: http://gpuz.techpowerup.com/21/09/08/wr8.png

Solve : Some games lag horribly on my PC?

Answer»

Hi everyone,
For the past half year or so I've been dealing with a strange occurrence while playing some of my games on the computer. First of all let me just say that my computer is 10+ years old, so I don't even expect it to properly run games that came out after 2010-2011.
My problem is that some of my games use 100% CPU and they start to lag as soon as I try to open them. This has honestly perplexed me because this occurred with games that previously ran perfectly fine. I'm talking Harry Potter 1 and 2, Diablo II, Prince of Persia trilogy, all pretty old games and yet somehow my PC decided that suddenly it can't TAKE it anymore, like it did for 10 years or so. It takes usually a minute to load the game and then another minute to be able to exit it because the computer slows down so much. This I found interesting because at the same time games like LoTR Conquest, KoAR and Skyrim, newer games run pretty well, no complaints there. So I wondered whether the problem could be related to games that require a disc to play but Diablo II (pirated version with disc in daemon tools) ran flawlessly a couple days ago and now that I bought the game digitally (so no disc) and try to open it the lags start coming like with the other games. Two Prince games are also digital but the problem persists. Another fact that might be of interest is that with some (not all) of the above mentioned lagging games I had to double click twice on their icons for them to start, which in the past wasn't much of a concern, they ran smoothly, but now it starts loading on the first double click but won't ever start up the game unless I double click again, but I don't think it's about running the same game multiple times simultaneously because the task manager shows that only one is running.
I've recently cleaned my hardware, got rid of viruses, there is plenty of space on all drivers, I don't even have internet connection most of the time. Sure, CPU runs pretty high even with playable games (around 95-100%) but that hasn't really caused any significant performance ISSUES so far.
My specs:
Intel Pentium 4, CPU 3.00 GHz
RAM 3,00 GB
32-bit Windows 7 OS
GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
Besides the graphics card and CPU cooler no changes have been made to the hardware in the last 10 years. I know my computer is done for. I'm planning on drastically upgrading it in the NEAR future but for now I just want to be able to play my old games.
Any help is much appreciated.
Video card is very bottle necked by the CPU, but I am thinking maybe you have a thermal issue with the CPU that is CAUSING it to thermal throttle. I'd make sure the CPU temps are staying below 70C you can use speedfan to monitor temps of CPU/GPU and more. Speedfan is free. Additionally there is a tool out there that can detect thermal throttling however thermal throttling can also be seen with task manager and look at the CPU utilization and see if its solid 100% use or if its cyclic in CPU backing off of 100% as it tries to cool itself as its running. Other way to detect thermal throttling in some that will hold steady at 100% use is watching the clock speed of the CPU as it will speedstep to a slower CPU clock and that brings on lag as the CPU attempts to stay cooler by running slower yet 100% use.

A Core 2 Duo or better computer can be purchased these days cheaply as refurb or used. The Pentium 4 while your playing games of the period you may want to add more games to what can be supported and in that process you will want a true dual core or better CPU like a Pentium E5400 or Core 2 Duo or better. However cost of used computers have come down so far that for example I got a 4th generation Core i5 tower with 8GB RAM and Windows 10 64-bit for $109 on amazon a year ago with a warranty and the processing power of a 4th gen Core i5 is many many times more powerful than even the Extreme Editions of the Pentium 4 series as well as could save you money on your electric bill as well as so much more processing power for less power consumed.

Nvidia Gforce 1030 Graphics card
I would like to know what kind of video card you have, but if the question is only about the processor, then it should more or less work at medium settings. At least for me, the g5400, similar in characteristics, coped quite wellSorry, but i3 is not suitable for Far Cry 5, even for the minimum requirements.Minimum requirements:
Source: https://www.google.com
OS: Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 (64-bit only);
Processor: Intel Core i5-2400 3.1 GHz or AMD FX-6300 3.5 GHz;
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 or AMD R9 270 (minimum 2 GB);
RAM: 8 GB.The Intel Core i3-4150 and the i5 2400 are roughly equivalent in overall performance. i3 is Entry LEVEL and i5 is mid-range, but the i3 is also newer and built on a new microarchitecture.Thank you all for the replies. My appolegies for not replying sooner. Please regard the post as solved. Thank you.

Bluestacks (an "app") for me to play mobile game
Operating System
Microsoft Windows 7 and above.
Processor
Intel or AMD Processor.
RAM
At least 4GB of RAM
HDD
5GB Free Disk Space.
Games for Bluestacks (no information given do to the game being mobile/Android only hence this app to play those on PC)
Hogwarts Mystery
Sims Free play
Papa's Mocharia To Go /other gamerias from this series
maybe Criminal Cases series (4 different ones of them).'

Extra:
Photoscape for editing SimLit photos
(No additional requirements) beside the Window 7.8/1)
Adobe Reader for SimLit "news article"

(I did try to narrow it down but for everything but the sims pack the idea works of going with the best for instance I used the information with Bluestacks Bluestacks needs:
Intel or AMD Processor.RAM
At least 4GB of RAM
HDD 5GB Free Disk Space

and I used the last ND game to be able to see what the best requrement is
4 CPU or equivalent class
512 MB of RAM
3GB or more hard drive space)

but the idea doesn't work with Sims 4 since the more packs you have the more RAM you need and that's not even taking into account mods and CC as well)

What is the best computer for me with these various Specs for the games - a gaming one or a different computer?

Whats your budget?

I'd suggest a system with at least 8GB RAM. And you can save money by buying a refurb with a warranty. I picked up a Core i5 4590 with 8GB RAM 128GB SSD and 1TB HDD for $200 each on amazon a few months ago and the Intel HD graphics plays games on normal graphics settings of the list that you have.

A friend of mine wanted to play SIMS 4 and I built her up a computer with Athlon II x4 620 2.6Ghz Quadcore, 4GB DDR2 800Mhz RAM, and 128GB SSD C: with 500GB HDD D: and for GPU I had a SPARE NVidia Quadro K2000 2GB DDR5 video card and it plays SIMS 4 with no issues on normal settings and she has the packs for it. The OS on the system I built for her though is Windows 7 64-bit as for Windows 10 64-bit with 4GB RAM starves games of RAM because Win 10 is memory hungry and best at 8GB or greater RAM to avoid excessive paging.

Solve : Battlefield 2 AIS server?

Answer» LONG shot from a newbie.
I have played BF2/AIX almost since it's inception but due to it's age and PEOPLE moving on there are only a few servers left. I would like to set up a server at home and wonder if anyone here has any knowledge of doing it and can offer some advice... I have made a couple of attempts but not SUCCESSFUL in getting it to BROADCAST to the 'net.
BF2 and BF2Hub is installed on a spare machine running Centos 7, (Windows Server is way too expensive).
Thanks for reading.

Solve : Playing casual, light-weight or old games on integrated graphics??

Answer»

I play Age of Empires 2 HD with one of my friends and he told me that he plays his games on an inexpensive desktop without a graphics card. I have another friend who tells me she plays Sims 3 on a $400 laptop. It got me wondering about what games can be enjoyed on cheaper computers without discrete graphics cards. Personally, I have played some casual, light weight games, such as Plants vs Zombies and Tetris on old laptops back in 2007-2011. I have also played NES, SNES, and N64 emulators on cheap laptops without a GPU. Is there a hierarchy for integrated graphics? Are some integrated graphics more powerful than others? Can some integrated graphics handle light weight games better than others? Here's a list of some games I'm wondering about playing on cheaper computers without a GPU.

Gemcraft 2 Chasing Shadows
Dungeon Warfare
Metal Slug 3
Metal Slug X
Cat Quest
Papers, Please
Stanley Parable
Doki Doki Literature Club
Plants vs. Zombies
NES, SNES, N64 emulators
Arcade classics: Dig Dug, Pac-Man, Galaga, TetrisIntegrated Graphics on systems with Intel, AMD, and nVidia graphics have been pretty good for entry level games since around 2009. My fiance plays SIMS 3 on a 8th Generation Core i3 Laptop with the Intel HD Graphics and that laptop was $429 when new 3 years ago. I have an electron sipper desktop build that has a mobile APU which is an AMD A8-5545m quadcore with 1.7 to 2.7Ghz CPU speed where it runs at 2.4 to 2.7Ghz Turbo enabled most of the time and the Radeon HD 8510G built into the APU is powerful enough to play games like World of Warcraft at Normal ( Middle slider ) graphics details at 40-60 fps as well as most of my Steam Games without issues. I have since installed a nVidia Quadro K2000 as for while this Video Card isnt really a gaming video card and came out of a server with a pair of them for medical processing they are better than the APU's GPU and so I can go with Ultra settings in WoW now and they were free and dont require a 12V molex CONNECTION like high end gaming cards yet the benchmark is the equivalent of a nVidia GTX 260 but at lesser power consumption and some differences in shaders etc but the 2GB DDR5 is perfect for a gaming card. the Biostar Motherboard that came with the A8-5545m APU in it was only $79.99 and I already had DDR3 RAM and all other components from DOA systems that I gut for good parts and so I was able to build that system up very cheaply with 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz RAM as a set of 2 x 4GB sticks.

The way games are these days its best to get a system that meets the system requirements for a game, however you can buy the game and install it and see how it plays. You might FIND that the APU or integrated on motherboard GPU is plenty for whatever the game is, however if you go for games that require a gaming rig you might find yourself buying a video card, but you might just need to get a video card and a power supply to drive the 12 volt needs of it and wattage as many games are more so GPU intensive and less CPU intensive and so for example a friend of mine has a lower end modern Intel Pentium that is paired with a GTX 780 ti and 600 watt power supply and it plays all his games very well. But if you look at the CPU utilization the cores are pegged at 100% use in games, but no NOTICEABLE lag gaming. So its fine to have a CPU running full tilt as long as temperatures stay below the maximum suggested temperature for that CPU by manufacturer. 100% CPU utilization though usually equals a bottleneck EVENTUALLY to the video card not able to run at peak performance and so a benchmark run on the system if the benchmark shows the GPU performing worse than others who have tested that video cards GPU it can be the result of the video card bottlenecked by the CPU to which point a CPU upgrade to a Core i3 or Core i5 would fix that depending on budget or if you have plenty of money to spend get the fastest performing Core i7 for the Intel board and remove the bottleneck issue.Thank you for your reply DaveNo problem and correction to SIMS its actually SIMS 4 that she plays not SIMS 3, so more demanding of graphics yet it plays with no lag.

Solve : CS-GO not always recognizing input or delaying it?

Answer»

Specs:
i5-6300U 2.40 Ghz
8 GB DDR4, 2133 Mhz, single channel
256 GB SK Hynix SC308 NVME SSD (65.0 GB Free)
Intel HD 520
Windows 10 Pro x64
Latitude E7270 (Ultrabook)

So, heres my issue. Whenever I play CS-GO (Counter Strike Global Offensive), at random times it will just ignore when I press my touchpad buttons for a fire input, or it will be a heavily delayed input. It starts off only occasionally, the longer I play the more and more it does it. It also never happens if I use a keyboard key as my fire input, only the touchpad buttons.

This does not happen in any other program or game. Ive tried getting it to replicate in Edge, CS: Source, several visual novels, Minecraft (both 1.12.2 and 1.8.9, Optifine and Labymod included), Steam, Discord, Chrome, CS 1.6, Half Life 2, and other programs I can't remember at the moment.

In ADDITION, ive also tried to re-verify the game files multiple times, re-installed the game, uninstalled and re-installed my touchpad driver, and even going so far as UNINSTALLING my antivirus to see if that was the cause.

Is this a hardware/chipset specific issue or glitch, or should I just buy a mouse to fix it? Its becoming very problematic in matches and games.

Solve : Best settings for Fortnite ??

Answer»

Hi there,
I was trying lately to improve the FPS rate when playing Fornite and COD: modern warfare by CHANGING some settings in the games by following some online guides such as this site https://www.bestsettings.com/guides/best-settings-for-fortnite/ and it has helped me to improve the gaming experience but there are more settings that they are suggesting to play with the windows settings. I was wondering if somebody more experienced can tell me if I change the settings as they are suggesting would that negatively influence the non-gaming PERFORMANCE?
Thanks!Settings of fortnite, window Mode. Set this to Fullscreen, display resolution, set this to your monitor's native resolution, FRAME Rate Limit. Go with unlimited or match this to your monitor's refresh rate. 3D resolution and set this to your monitor's native resolution, View DISTANCE, Shadows, Anti-Aliasing Textures.what is the best display resolution ?? does anyone knows ?Quote from: cynthiaD89 on March 31, 2020, 11:03:20 AM

Solve : Long-standing issue with "Star Wars: Dark Forces"?

Answer»

I have a long-standing issue with "Star WARS: Dark Forces". I have no problems getting the game to run, but there is one issue I'm always having. The game never plays the boss music when a boss is being faced. Is there any way to edit the midi files to trigger that? Not that I will attempt it. Knowing how the iMUSE music engine works, I'm not sure I can accomplish it. When facing the first Phase 1 Dark Trooper, the music track BOSS-05 should play, but it does not. There's got to be a way to trigger it.Quote from: Ryan on October 13, 2020, 09:25:31 PM

Maybe I should try a midi editor or two to convert the midi files and insert the proper sysex messages into a file to see if I can trigger the boss music. A prime candidate is Mission 10's music. It starts out with a battle with multiple Kell Dragons during which you can only use the fists. After having contacted somebody working on a mod for Dark Forces that ALLOWS things like mouselook, I've FOUND out the cause of the boss music not working is the main executable. This topic is done with. Even he cannot fix it. Maybe the guy BEHIND The Force Engine can get it working. There is work being done to recreate the underlying JEDI Engine, called "The Force Engine". It's incomplete right now, and probably isn't a drop-in-replacement for the original, as it probably won't have a DOS Build, but it might be something to watch, as they would be in the position to fix issues like that.

Answer»

I am trying to find the name or web ADDRESS of an old Star Wars: Dark FORCES website that contains iMUSE related words like “STALK TRANS”, “FIGHT TRANS“ and “ENGAGE TRANS” with SYSEX information. Does anybody have any information?I FOUND the "ENGAGE TRANS" info inside a file within Dark Forces' "SOUNDS.GOB" file. Still didn't help. A complete mystery. I don't know if it's a source code problem or if Lucasarts simply didn't complete the transitions, which is sounds like they didn't finish them.

I'm currently trying to figure out if using windows xp and modern components LIKE a 1060 will allow me to play older GAMES from disc(mgs2/mercenaries 2). Is the operating system the only thing KEEPING me from running these games or do the graphics card and processor also cause issues when attempting to run them. Currently use win 10 which has a useless compatibility mode.
Will build new pc if op system is only issue.Quote from: kagaminerin21 on August 25, 2020, 05:54:20 PM

Windows XP will not run on new hardware. You are better looking for a Windows XP computer which STILL has XP loaded this is recommended as activating XP is a problem now.

Check computer recyclers in your area or look for a 10 year or older gaming computer in garage sales etc.
Or there is this which has XP drivers https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Optiplex-7010-Professional-Refurbished/dp/B01LKOZEF0

I think windows xp won't run on those pc parts. You can still try it out and see if it works, but i wouldn't take that risk. I'd rather just install windows 10 and an emulator for the older games

Solve : Can't play Pinball??

Answer»

Hello, I dug through my old box of DISKS and found an old game on CD called Pinball Illusions.
I tried to play it on my new Dell, ( I just wanted to test the computers abilities) the dell has a Pentium4, 1 gig ram 500 Gig hard drive Xp sp3, but it wont do anything.
SAGAME
When I tried to install it and RUN it a smallish box came up(looked like a DOS type install box) and words flashed across the screen then everything just went away.
End result is the game doesnt do anything and wont play.

I tried it in my other computer the AMD Athalon but same thing.
Am I doing it wrong?
Im thinking it may be too old for modern systems. or its me ( THATS the most likely cenario)
Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you. It's a DOS game and you would probably need to install a program like DOSBox to be able to run it.

If all you want to do is play the game, it's available to play on-line here: https://classicreload.com/pinball-illusions.htmlI think they are a copy-paste spammer. copied from here.

Solve : 06'Battlefield2142 Trying to install & play BF2142 once again!?

Answer» Last time I could play PC BF2142 gameplay was 2016,but my Pc crashed & could not ever find a correct way to REINSTALL the game to work again. Since, online play is almost impossible to find to play, but I prefer to USE the BF2142 single player choice anyway.which I played 100% of the time back in 2016. I have downloaded many GB's worth of different versions, but nothing works after I try & fail on making this fun game play again.Recently, Im trying a IPC games Bf2142 version that has to do with a crack file & a keygenerator now. Here are the instructions: extract rzr-2142 with PowerISO or other method. Then install the game,The keygenerator is mounted file in a folder, after INSTALLING the game, only 2 things to do,put the crack file in, C:Program Files/electronic arts/Battlefield 2142, you must put in the default profile & you must open up the file in the crack of the file, insert these 2 folders in the 2 files in My Documents/Battlefield2142. Now, to play the 2142 game press the log in & after an error pops up press cancel, then select a profile ,then try to play? Sounds EASY ,but I just dont understand all the cracking parts & using the Keygenerator mostly then putting in all the files in different folders some crack then other files/folders. Somewhat confusing enough to let another version to keep me from playing a GREAT past 06' EAgame again!

Solve : new computer windows question?

Answer»

Hello everyone,,

i like computer games. and like some of the older versions. as in the ones that you can not use on vista.
i would like to get a computer with windows xp still. the only computer i can even find for sale that has this has little ram and hard drive. this will not help me https://100001.onl/ https://1921681254.mx/ https://happymod.site/.
i asked best buy if i buy a computer from them and want xp instead of vista for them. they said they can, but not all functions might work.
i have heard of something called patches?? do they work.

or does anyone know where i can still get a good computer with xp??BUYING a used computer with XP is probably your best direction to go. Any new computer build may lack the drivers to support XP as the chips that the drivers drive may only support Windows 7 and newer as an example.

So look for a good safe buyer to buy a used Windows XP OS computer from and run the games you want to play on XP on that system. I would suggest something like a Quadcore CPU Like the Intel Q6600 and a NVidia GTX Video Card that pairs up well with your games. if the games are not extremely HEAVY in graphics you might be able to get a GT card like a 9800GT videocard. Look at the games you have for suggested HARDWARE and have hardware equal to or better than the suggested hardware requirements.

I would be sure that the computer that you get has SATA Controller so that your not buying a IDE aka PATA drive system which is lesser performance as well as SATA drives come in larger than 500GB capacity whereas IDE aka PATA drives come in 500GB or less in size and slower.

Other thing to know is that some older games REQUIRE some system changes to run correctly such as I like to play Unreal Tournament 99 and this game was created back when most computers were a single core processor. When running this game on Windows XP on a Athlon II x4 620 Quadcore 2.6Ghz CPU the game would stutter. I had to set core affinity to force the game to run on 1 of 4 cores in order for the game to play correctly.

Solve : Why Gaming PCs Have No Future.?

Answer»

I don't think it's a bad investment, and think from the perspective of a person which uses his PC for all the other uses, like programmers, video editors, these PC's are a great investment for them. And the guys which can SPEND 100$ on PC must be using them for streaming, editing and lots of stuff.
If the computer isn't going anywhere in the NEAR future then the PC GAMING is going to stick to it. Okay.

Solve : Any game I play crashes, no matter the graphic quality settings?

Answer»
I've had my PC for a few years and ever since I got it, the performance has always been bad, even on very low graphics for any game. Games such as Destiny 2, APEX Legends, Fortnite, and Garry's Mod can run from a few minutes to a couple hours before crashing, and the error messages are almost never the same (the games will freeze and the audio will keep playing most of the time on a LOOP and will close by itself). Last year I took it into a professional to check the hardware and they said there was nothing wrong with it, but when I got it back, it still crashed. I also ran the windows memory diagnostic (it found no errors), I have uninstalled and re-installed my DRIVERS, I have ran a BurnIn Test (no errors), and have an up to date anti-virus. If anyone knows what is happening to my computer please let me know. Thank you.

Solve : Warzone freezing, not crashing?

Answer»

Hello, I have an interesting issue here. I have a prebuilt CyberPower PC I bought on Amazon approximately 18 months ago. Since then I have played Fortnite, Apex LEGENDS and Blackout just fine. However when I play Warzone the game will randomly freeze, almost like internet lag, then come back with me in a completely different area.

Specs:
B360M Bazooka Motherboard
i5 @ 8400
GTX 1060 3GB
2x8GB @2666hz Corsair Vengeance RAM

What I have done:
Ran UserBenchMark and identified a SHORTCOMING in RAM. I UPGRADED from 1x8gb to 2x8GB and the freezing still happens. I have TRIED running ISLC while I play and it is less choppy but still freezing. I tried to run Process Lasso and that also didn't work.

I was tracking the CPU and GPU latency via the in-game overlay but when the game froze those also froze. So I downloaded Afterburner/Rivatuner to use that overlay but when the game froze those froze as well. So I cannot pinpoint what is locking me up.

The game NEVER crashes. Just stops mid frame and come back sometimes relatively quickly, sometimes up to 10-15 seconds later. I have tried all of the youtube how-to's and I am lost as to what is going on.

Any help would be greatly APPRECIATED. This is very frustrating as I ran over 100 hours on Apex Legends with no issue and now I can't play a single game of Warzone without this happening.

Thank You

Guys Pls Help.......
When I tried to play any game today, after starting monitor showed coloured display and hangs. Its followed by a "RRRRRR" sound through the headphones
Then I had to stop ups and then I started pc again and the monitor blinks for sometimes from HDMI to Analogue. Than it starts NORMALLY after some trying of starting and closing the pc again and again. But if I tried to play any game it shows the same problem. It does not SHOW any problem when I am not playing any games. My confuration
Intel core i5 4440
Gigabyte B885 mobo
GPU : AMD Radeon R9 280
Driver is latest
Windows 10Run MEMTEST86 on it for about 3 or 4 full tests and make sure the RAM is healthy.. You could have a memory address that isn't reached when taking it easy on it but the games that need the memory land on that bad address and then it locks up and RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Other thing to check would be hard drive or SSD health by running CrystalDiskInfo and make sure its Green Good and not Yellow with a Warning of an ill drive. *Virtual Memory if there is an issue with Read/Write of this to System RAM, it can act like a RAM issue and RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR and other types of crashing as well. Note: MEMTEST86 tests just the RAM and not the hard drive. CrystalDiskInfo reads the drive health S.M.A.R.T data off the drives installed.Sounds like CPU problem. Try to monitor CPU temps or reapply thermal paste, lean off any built-up dust. good luck! When I am playing games I see blue color screen with horizontal lines. The image disappears but I can move the mouse. No other keys work at that time.

I am using Wndows 10 OS. Quote from: sumnoon on September 23, 2018, 05:01:20 AM

You would be better starting your own post not tacking onto one from last year.

I would try Ctrl alt delete select task manager, select more info and see what is running and how much free space etc. As a basic rule every thing should be about 1/2 maximum so say your disk is at 100% then this is somewhere to look. There is lots of windows PERFORMANCE information in there. You could post some screen shots if you WANT.

Solve : My favorite games crash straight to desktop.?

Answer»

My PC randomly crashes to desktop on a few games and every now and then I GET a BSOD. It's always a KERNEL security check error. I have made sure my windows update is up-to-date and ran a few other steps I FOUND online. Not sure if it fixed my BSOD, not sure if it's related to my game crashes. When my games crash, they crash straight to desktop. GTA V, Apex Legends, and Rocket League are the main ones that come to mind. A couple others have/do but can't remember what. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

My PC Specs:
Windows 10
Intel i7-2600S
16gb RAM
GTX 1660

This is a link to a thread on EA support forums full of crash reports. On page 3 are two apex related event viewer errors from a crash and my DxDiag at the time. The only thing that has changed is I have gotten a new monitor.
https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Apex-Legends-Crashing/m-p/7932441#M43453

I also used CrystalDiskInfo to make sure my harddrives weren't going bad. 1TB HDD & 256GB SSD.

The following is 2 event viewer errors from when Rocket League just crashed to desktop.

Is there anything for GTA or Apex in event viewer?

Also what type of SSD are you using? It is suggesting a driver issue and likely the AHCI driver.

Solve : Hiow to Play 'Age Of Kings' (AoE II) under Windows 7 ??

Answer»

After trying out several things I got Age Of Empires II (Age Of Kings) to install on one of my Windows 7 Systems (Windows 7 Professional, HP Pavillion dm4-1164tx laptop, core i5-450M, 8GB RAM, built-in Intel graphics [HD 2500 ?]).

I could get it to run initially by setting compatibility mode to XP3. No other boxes checked on that tab (I have found that so far, checking res box 640x480 or disable themes box makes any difference).

With compatibility mode set to XP3, the game opens as far as single player>random MAP setup screen but when I start playing, some screen menus are not completed (those at the bottom of the screen; those at the top are ok). The colours do not seem to affected (except once, on the "play" screen menus). I can also see the "minimap" (at the bottom R of the screen). This shows me why the main screen is blacked out - it simply showing the unexplored area where the minimap cursor is - this cursor inexorably drifts to top of the minimap (the minimap is in the shape of diamond with points at N, E, S, and W: the cursor drifts to the north point.) [I'd post a screen shot of the "play" screen if I could]
There (anywhere in fact) the mouse is unable to move the cursor on the main screen: rather the cursor can be controlled as expected, but it does not move AROUND the map). Clicking on the next villager near the minimap momentarily returns the cursors (the on-screen and minimap) to my village but it instantly starts drifting away ending up at the north point.

So the issue is now why is the "play" screen not working ? why does the cursor drift away from wehere it is placed ? why aren't the bottom menus/information screens complete ? How do I FIX it ?

Dumb_Question
5.September.2019it's related to certain background software, though there isn't a definitive list, motherboard software and "monitor" software usually does it.

There is an community patch which claims to fix the problem. It might only work with the Conquerors expansion, though.

There are no menus at the bottom of the screen unless a Unit or Building is selected so I'm not sure what you are referring to.Thank you for your helpful reply, BC Programmer.

I have seen this patch and applied it to get the Conquerors to work under Windows 10 IIRC.

When you say 'background software' could that be that I have I quite of a lot of programs open just at present, browsers with many tabs mostly, Opera, Firefox and IE11 ?
I did think that maybe I should restart my computer.
Or were you referring to 'background software' as what I would call system software ? I am using an external monitor and wireless keyboard. My monitor consistently gives me the message about optimal res. being 1080 x 1920 but then my laptop default is 1366 x 768

If you could tell me how do a screenshot I'm sure it would help everyone see what was going on. I've tried PrtScrn>Exit Game>paste into paint and it gives me a black area in paint

Dumb_Question
5.September.2019You can use F12 in the game to capture a screenshot. I'm not sure specifically where it saves- I'd guess it saves in a folder within the current users Documents folder, though it might be part of the AOE2 install.

by background software I mean software that SITS in the background. A lot of people like to run temperature monitoring utilities for example. Audio devices and video cards driver software will often install their own sets of software that runs in the background for "Control panels" or whatever.

the Microsoft "Zune" software is one example, which I didn't mention because it's doubtful anybody nowadays uses it. the background "Mouse" utilities like Logitech SetPoint and Microsoft Intellipoint can cause this too.

What a strange thing coincidence is.
I run CoreTemp because in the past my computer's CPU used to get very hot cf it's max, and this caused it to stop, and I wondered why.
Also, for unknown reasons "Zune" is installed and the launcher is running as a process. (I inherited this computer)
Nothing I can do about the m/b or graphics software.
Once again thank you for your help.

5.September.2019https://www.reddit.com/r/aoe2/comments/81tfxe/running_original_age_of_empires_2_on_windows_7/ --> in case it helps->2i3i5x
I figured out where the refit posts had gone - I'm not signed up to reddit so most references appear blacked out and I have search manually for them. As to using VMs, I tried it once, to play SimCity but it was just awkward although it worked.

But I HAVE A NEW PROBLEM (related). I thought I'd try running AoK in W7 Safe mode, but as I wasn't prepared to take down this computer I installed Age of Kings on a similar one (again, an HP Pavilion dm4 8GB RAM and core i5-450M but with a different ver of W7 and probably differently set up.). Installation was OK except with one disc that these machines have problems with (always, at some point in installation it says "...write error...check your HD is not full or that the file is not in use" neither of which can possibly be the case). But I couldn't get the game to start at all. Even using the batch file to turn off explorer.exe (see the reddit post on this - https://www.reddit.com/r/aoe2/comments/81tfxe/running_original_age_of_empires_2_on_windows_7/). The batch file file runs, but the game still doesn't open. No compatibility options work. Even running in safe mode the game doesn't work. Not a hint on this machine (I think it's a dm4-1100sa ?). There must be something I have FORGOTTEN to set up - can anyone spot it ?

Solve : Age Of Empires 1 and 2 not working on Windows 7 PC?

Answer»

I have been a fan of this game for years and in the past have continued to be able to play it whenever i have upgraded my PC. Within the last year or so though i have been unable to get the game to work on my windows 7 desktop (3yo Packard Bell). Both AOE1, Rise of Rome and AOE2 Kings will install but fail to open once installed. I can however run the game sucessfully on an old XP desktop (Compaq), albeit with graphics issues.

I have tried running the games in compatability mode for Vista XP an even 98 to no avail. What could be wrong? Has some update or patch to the OS or associated systems made the games incompatible with my system or is the game just too old for a modern PC?

Any ideas? Would be nice to get it going again and not have to hang on to an old pc just to play it.

ThanksIn compatibility options, have you tried the other tick boxes? Some of them can be helpful in getting older systems to run, it's worth trying with each of those.
If that doesn't help, try disabling the Aero theme entirely by switching to Windows basic temporarily, to see if that helps as sometimes Aero can cause problems with older games.I switched the theme from aero to basic and both games worked first time without resorting to compatibilty modes. Does this mean that i cant personlaise my desktop if i want to run the games? Would changing the background/desktop wallpaper mess things up again by taking the appearance setting s out of basic mode?

One issue i have with running the games in windows 7 is the graphics which in AOE2 particularly are not as they should be. Are there any further settings that can be changed to put this right?

ThanksQuote from: richardf77 on JULY 17, 2013, 03:08:33 AM

The wallpaper can be changed without dropping back into Aero, just don't change the theme back. You can always save a custom theme for Aero and one for Basic, and switch between them easily. It's worth trying the tickbox under compatibility to disable visual themes, that may also work without you having to go to the Basic theme.

Buy Age Of Empires 2 HD? Seriously though, I'm unsure because I haven't played any of the AoE games, so not only do I not know first hand what they're meant to look like, I also don't know of any specific workarounds other than just Googling it myself.Re: AOE palette bug-

AOE1 and AOE2 use 8-bit indexed colour palettes. What this means is it get's to choose 256 colours fro a larger set and then use those.

The issue is that, with windows and 256 colours, 256 colour modes work by way of asking applications what colours they need. Applications can then say to windows "Well, I would like these colours, but at the very least, I need these ones" and Windows will do it's BEST to preserve the palette colours for all applications.

AOE and AOE2, for example, have their own set of 256 colours that they use for everything. Normally, since it 's a full-screen, foreground application, this has no issue, because nothing else is usually holding colours hostage in the palette.

Windows 7 (and Windows Vista as well) I believe, however, do. There are some palette colours that Windows Explorer (eg. the taskbar/start menu application) refuses to let go of, which makes for weird magenta outlines and bits of weird colours.

The solution for windows Vista and 7 is to kill explorer.exe before you launch it. I personally use a batch file:

Code: [Select]taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires II\empires2.exe"
ECHO press any key to restart explorer...
pause
start explorer.exe
This will kill explorer, start the game, and then when you finish wait for you to press a key in the command window, and then restart explorer. This same technique is required for appropriate visuals in many older games that use 256 colour modes. (Command & Conquer being just one other example).

Ah, that makes a lot of sense BC, thanks for the info. I'd heard of killing explorer being a workaround, but I wasn't sure of the reason. Do you know if StarCraft would also have the same bug, or not? Do you know if StarCraft would also have the same bug, or not? Because in Windows 7 I found that StarCraft would sometimes, after a little while of playing, have the colours go all crazy and the game became unplayable, it required a restart of the game to fix.

Most likely. Usually it shows up in any game that uses 8-bit colour. (Of course many such games had their own bugs related to the palette too)Anybody out there who can help please do. It is about Age of Empire II. It starts good in Windows Me and Windows XP. I started Windows7 3years ago and since then I installed Age of Empire II but won't start. Tried everything possible but the answers are hopeless.
In this forum I got many tips and tried but also fail. Has anyone managed to get this game WORKING in windows 10 at all? Recently I decided to try it for the first time since upgrading to 10 and while the CD loaded and the game appered to install it would not run. I had it working fine on 7.

Strangely though the older AOE 1 runs absolutely fine on 10 with virtually no system adjustments, wheras on 7 the display settings needed altering to get it running properly.

Any fixes for AOE 2 or is it RIP for that game (or find an old PC to run it on)?I am having problems connecting my 2 computers to multiplayer. One is XP one is windows 7. I can create the room and find my xp with my windows 7 but it wont let me join the room. When I try to join my Xp from the windows 7 in reverse roles I cannot even find the room. I am running it through my rotor at home and both computuers will show a different IP I know this an old post in an old thread, and Richard has probably found an answer, but just in case he hasn't...

Many people have got AoE II (Age of Kings) and The Conquerors and AoE III and The War Chiefs and The Asian Dynasties to (including myself) to run under Windows 10

Can't remember exactly how though. Vaguely it's a question selecting compatibility mode (sometimes on install) and installing the appropriate patches. Check aslso you've .NET 3.5.1 and there's something else too Direct Draw maybe applied. (I think these are under 'Features' in CP)

Search the internet for the best way for you - the answer is out there !

5.September.2019 Just in case somebody comes across this old thread and is still looking for an answer ....

Came across this reddit thread on the topic, seems like somebody got it to run on windows 7 --> https://www.reddit.com/r/aoe2/comments/81tfxe/running_original_age_of_empires_2_on_windows_7/

The original AOE3 + the two expansions are both currently installed on my win 10 machine and am playing it without a problem. Did not have to do anything special to get them to work. Just had to get the latest released patch so that you can play without needing to hunt down the discsThanks 2x3i5x, but I can't find a useful post, on that page there are lots of irrelevant posts and even when I tried to narrow it down by 'searching' there are still lots although more relevant.

However, I moved on to trying install The Conquerors
I found that I needed the v1.5 patch to get anywhere after a trivial install. I found that to install I needed to use The Conquerors disc from the same collectors edition as the AoK came from: using a different one it simply failed to install (small box with a yellow triangle ?)
The v1.5 patch was non trivial to install but not that difficult either. There were some settings that I had to uninstall & reinstall again to get right, but after that it seemed to play perfectly.

This only now leaves the problem of playing The Age Of Kings on Windows 7

Good luck!

A thought came to mind ... might not be an ideal solution, but to play old games via a virtual machine (i.e., virtualbox or VMWare) Doesn't beat installing the game NATIVELY on the host system anyway but at least if it works, it's playable for the meantime

Solve : Need some help choosing between a ps4 slim and pro?

Answer»

i'm in the market for a ps4 as a secondary console. i play most cross-platform games on my pc or x1x (i know, i know), and mainly am looking for a ps4 for the excellent exclusive library. i'm not sure if i should go for the ps4 pro, or if the SLIM is good ENOUGH. i do have a 55" 4k hdr TV (TCL P607), but not a 5.1 sound system (just a sound bar).

i won't do anything multiplayer, so this is just single-player experience. i'm mainly looking for commentary on if these games will be dramatically better on the pro vs. the slim - either in terms of visuals or performance. with a used slim being 100$ less than the pro, if there's not a ton of difference, i'll get the slim and buy more games.Quote from: JerryTubs on August 27, 2019, 08:50:41 AM

What is your favorite FPS game?Battlefield V
Unreal Tournament 99 is my most played and favorite.

I use to play lots of counter strike but there are so many cheaters out there that its pointless to get on and play that anymore with cheaters getting instant headshots and running jump LOOP macros as well as even worse those who have cheats that allow them to walk on air above you and snipe down at you from a position that they should never have been able to get to.

Other games I played a lot was Alien Arena ( Free to play FPS ) and Warsow ( also free to play ).

Warsow is ok but my favorite is UT99 which has so many maps out there to play on as well as people are still hosting their private servers to connect to and play. Cheating on UT99 isnt really there, the biggest thing is people who play a room so much that they know where the spawn points are for special weapons and armor plating as well as best snipe locations.

Alien Arena is ok but the AI in the game for solo play against AI cheat. The aliens as part of their code do not have line of sight, but INSTEAD a radius around them, so if you hide around a door way for an alien to enter you cant shoot it in the back from behind the door, as it comes through the door it instantly knows your there and it kills you quickly. I submitted a suggestion to the devs of Alien Arena to change how the AI aliens see around them, so that you should be able to walk out behind them as they are facing the other way and shoot them in the back, but the last time I played 2 years ago the aliens instantly targeted you within a radius of range around them, so the advantage that you have playing against real players who only see whats in front of them is not there with AI's, so for the fact that I love to play solo play against the AI's in UT99 because its line of sight for them, I left Alien Arena and went back to UT99 that while the game is nearly 20 years old it still plays fine on modern COMPUTERS and so many maps out there for the game to have thousands to play. One day I ran a download from a website that hosts all the maps for download to which i was able to target all .zip files from the website with HTTrack and download 14.9GB of custom map files to have thousands to play on. I have only samples some of the many maps, and some of them are my most favorite to play. Other ones that have you on objects in space and you see planets moving as a result of the rolling space station your standing on I avoid because they give me a vertigo like feeling of dizzyness so certain maps I avoid to not get a motion illness with them.

I actually found Wolfenstein really enjoyable! I play csgo. It was cheap, and I can consistently find people to play online with. Offline I play 007-Goldeneye for the N64.Quote

Offline I play 007-Goldeneye for the N64.

That game right there was the whole reason for me buying the N64 back in the day. No other game for N64 was as good as that one IMO. So many hours playing that fun game. hmmm....

CSGO to death, but you need a good gamer mouse to dominate your enemies. I first started playing CSGO because a random guy on Techgara invited me.
After that, I was addicted to Planetside 2 - I highly recommend this game.
Now I'm play Borderlands 2.
Borderlands 2 anyone? CS-GO (PC)

PUBG Mobile (Android/iOS)

Pixel Gun 3D (Android/iOS)

Squad Strike 3 (Android)

Thats my list.
