Solve : install a game into my tablet from a disc without a disc drive in my tablet?

Answer»

I want to install a game on my tablet. the game is on a disc. I don't have a disc drive on my tablet. how can I install the game without a drive? What OS? Is the game written for that OS?

When you say the game is on a disc, what kind of disc? Do you MEAN it's on an OPTICAL disc such as a CD/DVD?

If the tablet is a Windows tablet, and you have a Windows game that is on a CD/DVD, then you should be able get an external optical drive that will PLUG into the USB port on the tablet. You'll then be able to install the game to your tablet. You'll most likely need an external drive with it's own power supply since often the USB port on a tablet can't provide ENOUGH power to power an external drive.

If you have a desktop or laptop PC with an optical drive then you could share that drive over a NETWORK and install to your tablet from the shared drive.

Solve : Should I be getting higher fps??

Answer»

Hi there, ill try to KEEP this detailed and describe it with my slightly limited knowledge of computers. I have 2 computers in my household, a macbook pro and a desktop pc. Naturally, I thought my desktop would be better for gaming, but here are the specs for both:

2011 Macbook Pro:
Intel Core Duo 2.4 GHz
GeForce 320M 256mb
4GB Ram

Pc:
AMD A4-5000
GeForce GT620 1024mb
6GB Ram

I use minecraft as a sort of BENCHMARK for both pcs. The macbook gets around 20-30 FPS usually, and the pc on same settings gets anywhere from 30-60. I then decided to get Counter Strike Global Offensive on both systems. When the mac got about 15-25 fps, I decided the pc must get better frames. However U was shocked to notice stuttering while playing and fps stayed a low 7-12 fps, even on minimum settings making it unplayable. I updated the nvidia graphics driver but it had no effect. I am wondering, should my pc be getting these low frames? Or is there a problem? ThanksHave you tried possible fixes as suggested in google hits for CS-GO?

https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=counter+strike+go+fps+issuesI hope you're trolling right now or joking, because those specs will blow up your pc if you try to run Cs:Go. PC gaming is not cheap! Please stop telling people they need to spend more money in order to get a better computer .... at least on this forum.I'd expect much better performance given how it runs better on a demonstrably less powerful system.

Hard to say why it's not running well, though. They ( 1n2ui7ion ) resurrected this from July 2016 .... never heard back from originator. Ah, oops. Didn't notice that. What a professional and graceful exit. Would you believe he's 28?Quote from: BC_Programmer on March 11, 2017, 12:26:48 AM

That's gamers for you. I never heard "get off my d**k" before. I might use that.

Flagged this for a mod to kill it off and remove the nasty comment thrown at Allan. SHAKES my head at how stupid this guy was, and for 28 he acted like he is 13. Hopefully his Rage Quit is permanent.

Additionally his comment:

Shakes my head at the fact that his statement is wasteful with money. Money spend never guarantees longevity of the build. I have seen many people dump that kind of money $1300-$2000 into systems before and get 2 or 3 years out of the system and then either the system requires a motherboard or something else to fix for hardware failure. Additionally Video Cards cooking to death because of GPU cooling fan failure or clogged up with dust etc. As well as people also push the hardware harder overclocking and even up over-cooking hardware killing it or stressing it to where it destabilizes and acts up.

I've been a penny pincher PC builder for myself and am happy with my gaming builds with a very tight budget and lots of reuse of mixing old and new hardware. Additionally I like to test the limits of minimal system requirements of games by underclocking, disabling cores, and memory to see where the true minimum system requirements are for games. I have had World of Warcraft running on 1 core of a 4 core CPU setting core affinity, and forced multiplier to CPU only running at 700Mhz and the game ran. However the game ran better at the 1.3Ghz of the full speed Sempron 3850 Quadcore. I have a AMD FX-8350 4.0Ghz 8-core system if I really need that kind of processing power, and that 8-core build I was able to pull off for under $400 by reuse of older hardware.I deleted that offensive post and banned the user. Have no idea who he was and I've certainly never run into him on any other forum.

Solve : Witcher 3 - Sticky Keys pop up in combat annoyance - And runs on 8yr old system?

Answer»

Just sharing in case others online run into this. I was playing Witcher 3 on my older gaming system to see how it would run the game on a Athlon II x4 620 2600Mhz with 4GB DDR2 800Mhz RAM with GeForce 730GT 2GB 128-bit video card and in the combat training it instructs you to hold down Left-Shift in combination with left-mouse click to strike harder. Well I guess I pressed Left-Shift 5 TIMES and Sticky-Keys popped up. Initially I thought the game crashed when a pop up window displayed and game froze, but it was asking if I wanted to use Sticky-Keys. I ended up de-selecting the sticky-keys active when left-shift pressed 5 times to get rid of this problem. I was kind of surprised that game controls for Witcher 3 would have had where it would trigger sticky-keys for Windows 7 64-bit.

Fortunately the annoyance is fixed easily by unchecking the check box and applying the change to not have it pop up after 5 times that the left-shift key is pressed.

Performance wise, the Athlon II x4 620 2.6Ghz CPU and nVidia Geforce 730GT 2GB 128-bit video card are kind of laggy. I have the better 8-core FX-8350 CPU system with EVGA GeForce GTX 780 ti 3GB 384-bit , and that runs Witcher 3 far better. Surprisingly the Athlon II x4 620 2.6Ghz CPU is not pegged to 100% for all 4 cores when game is running, but the GeForce GT 730 is weak and so there is noticeable lag. This CPU paired with a decent GTX card it would probably be better to play. Core activity for the quadcore showed all cores swinging between 40 and 60%with game running so its not pulling 100% to run Witcher 3. The 4GB RAM, all but 300MB was in use by the game according to graphic logger.

At some point I might test this system with Witcher 3 with the EVGA GeForce GTX 260 896MB core 216 superclocked edition and see how it performs.

[attachment deleted by admin to conserve space]There is no way for a game/program to say "Don't activate sticky keys while I'm active", so the workaround some games use is to save whether it is enabled, disable it, and then when the game is closed, turn it back on if it was enabled before. It can disable the shift key entirely, with a low-level keyboard hook, but of course that can only work for games that don't use the key- this is what is used for the Windows Key in some games, for example.

Thing is, if the game crashes and the user wants it on, now it's off, so it can mess up preferences. I guess some developers have decided it's not worth it, or that most people disable the setting anyway.Hah, so reading your post prompted me to fire up a game so I fired up Just Cause 3. Don't really utilize the capabilities of this system for running games. But it led to a rather interesting series of events, quite related to performance. But even more so, I discovered an issue that was the result of me not practicing what I've advised on this forum and elsewhere!

Now the game runs fine, absolutely no issues whatsoever with performance. But out of nowhere my displays went blank and the sound cut out. The System was still on- HDD light was blinking, etc. but I couldn't actually get either of my monitors back. (I did try plugging into my on-board to see if it recovered with that or something but no avail. I didn't lose anything important.

Now, my first thought was the Graphics card- given the symptoms, it seems reasonable, no?

So I give up and force it off with the power button and reboot, then take a look see in the event viewer. I was expecting to perhaps see errors about the Graphics card driver not responding. But I actually saw something quite different- Instead, I saw a message from "Resource-Exhaustion-Detector" stating that The system had run low on Virtual Memory:

Code: [Select]Windows successfully diagnosed a low virtual memory condition. The following programs consumed the most virtual memory: JustCause3.exe (17680) consumed 8853925888 bytes, firefox.exe (16072) consumed 2104459264 bytes, and devenv.exe (21080) consumed 1013133312 bytes.
That's about 8GB, 2GB, and 1GB respectively.

Now, this leads to my mistake: I had actually turned off Virtual Memory entirely! (Thus my "Not following my own advice" remark). I f igured "it's 32GB of RAM, I can save disk space this way"

I figure the system just flat out ran out of memory and just couldn't complete the task switch from Just Cause 3 to the dialog Windows shows saying that it has run out of memory, so it got stuck.

Anyway, I've followed the advice I've been giving all this time and turned Virtual Memory back to System Managed.

Interesting.... I have noticed that some games the windows key doesnt function to get back to desktop. Never thought that the game devs disabled it intentionally. Thinking now it was probably disabled to avoid crash conditions. One such game that the windows key does not work in to get back to Windows desktop is Driver - Parallel Lines. I had an awesome game going and I paused the game and wanted to fire up fraps to record an insane car chase where I was having a bunch of fun with AI/NPC Cops. I was going to double back over an area in the game that i knew I could get an insane jump out of and land it back onto its wheels and keep going. Sadly windows key didnt function to get me back to Windows desktop to turn fraps on. So I had to exit the game, turn fraps on, and then launch the game and then navigate all the way back on the map to where I was that i wanted to do the stunt recording to record it in which then the tilde key worked to start/stop recording for fraps.

Interesting crash with Just Cause 3 and Virtual Memory disabled. I too what have thought that 32GB is plenty and to force it to all work within RAM vs Disk Swapping data would be a performance gain of not having up to 48GB of swap space for 32GB RAM. Somewhere I was reading, cant find the ARTICLE now, but that disabling swap space and forcing it to all run in RAM detracts from Windows performance because Windows wants to use Virtual Memory, so its actually being crippled by it disabled.

I had one system that was acting strange on me ( suspected SSD issues and with SSD issues serving back data to RAM improperly it was causing system crashes ) and I lowered the swap space to the bare minimum since it wouldnt allow it to be disabled completely so it was set to the 2-4mb for C: forcing it to run on mainly just RAM and a 4mb area of the SSD. The system behaved with this setting so I then knew it was a issue with my SSD. However Windows 7 64-bit was not as responsive as it was with virtual memory enabled. Sure it had only 4GB RAM, but with just the OS and Firefox browser, I did sense some lag to the system. The processor is a Sempron 3850 1.3Ghz quadcore and so to begin with the system isnt all that powerful, so crippling virtual memory on a system that was sort of crippled by design to be an electron sipper, it stood out as a performance loss on this system whereas a more powerful computer might not be as easily noticed.

One thing I havent tried yet is to see if I can set up a RAM Drive and have Windows pointed to the RAM Drive for its swap space. It would then force Windows to work in RAM and it would be happy with its swap space that by design I guess it works better with swap/virtual memory space enabled vs crippled/disabled. I havent done this yet because on a 4GB RAM system it wouldnt work out too well. I have a system with 16GB RAM though and that would make for an interesting test. Of 16GB I could have allocated 6GB RAM for system and 10GB RAM DRIVE for very fast swap space. Perform a baseline benchmark prior to this and then one after to see if there is any real gain. The only unknown that I have is.... the chicken or the egg coming first scenario. That is.... the RAM Drive would need to be available for Windows 7 to use for swap/virtual memory and would Windows 7 be happy with the swap space not being active until the RAM Drive service is started. I am thinking Windows 7 is going to have a fit upon reboot when the RAM Drive service is not active yet to give Windows 7 its virtual memory within RAM. * Its also kind of funny that its a mess of using RAM to help itself. But Windows was designed to run on systems that didnt have a massive amount of RAM, and so Virtual Memory is deep in the root of its design to make the OS work without running out of memory.

The system with the SSD issue with virtual memory, I have since installed a HDD and the crash conditions have been far fewer than with the SSD. Also set the virtual memory back to system managed SIZE.

Im kind of surprised that your system crashed running out of RAM. Recently on my older system with 4GB RAM, I have been getting low memory warnings when I have Windows 7 64-bit running Firefox active and Firestorm Viewer for playing around in a virtual world on Second Life. The low memory warnings suggest to shut off firefox. I skip past the low memory warnings that pop up on occasion and everything continues to work. When looking in the resource graphic log that runs, I see that the system only has like 300mb memory free. Additionally, the system is running on a 120GB SSD and it only has about 1GB free space on it, so since its set to Windows Managed Virtual Memory size, its likely having a fit because it wants to grow and its stuck within the constraints of the jam packed SSD. Maybe your system was going to warn you that its running out of memory like mine did, but the game took the focus and hid the warning.Quote
Was wondering if anyone knows what happened to him.
It didn't truly crash, it just got into an unusable state. Sort of the same thing, but all the programs were still running, I just had no way of terminating or stopping them.

I suspect Windows was trying to show me the message you mention, but perhaps because of the low memory condition wasn't fully able to take focus from the game- or perhaps the rest of the system, having to redraw windows and such to draw the desktop, itself couldn't get sufficient resources to do so, and because it was confined to only using physical memory, it couldn't swap anything to disk to free up memory for basic tasks. After all, eeven to close programs or do things like control alt Delete, the systerm needs to allocate memory for the task manager or the security screen, but if there isn't a way to get that memory it can't really do anything.

The "Nowhere to swap to" issue is also why IMO the RAMDisk as Pagefile might not work so well, a s under the same conditions the same upper limit can be reached- no memroy to allocate and no persistent storage to slap discardable memory PAGES temporarily, if the RAM Disk pagefile is full.

There was a later "DETECTION" event a few minutes later as well which suggests that everything was still running, even while the screen was "blank"; the HDD Light was occasionally firing up, etc.

I'm just glad my 1070 GTX isn't failing or having problems, I hate Graphics cards issues

Scrolled through some screenshots and found the one the night that I ran low on memory and the system gave me a warning. I thought it was Firefox that it wanted me to unload from memory, but it was Firestorm the viewer I use for SecondLife. I clicked cancel I think and took my chances in a very low memory state. The screenshot shows that according to CPU/RAM gadget that I had 358MB of 4094MB free. And the graph shows that the memory was even lesser in the past as for the blue line in the CPU graph is the memory in use. The closer to the top of the graph window the lines are the closer to 100% utilization.

Solve : GTA 4 trainwreck?

Answer»

did anybody else have the worst time trying to install and play GTA 4, i have the game on disk and through steam and it was a nightmare to setup and run, now i know what was wrong but years ago when i bought the game i didn't know anything about computers so it took hours of googling and hair pulling to install. heres the pain i suffered, hopefully it will be useful for you.

installing on disk: Rockstar screwed up a bit with the disk version as the game was just a really bad optimized port of the console version, which was fixed in a later patch but my disk version had didn't have the updated patch and the installer never mentioned updates, anyway so i finally got the games installed and i launched it, to get a make a social club account, fair enough it had multiplayer features so i did that, then it told me i couldn't play without windows live, now i dont know if this program is any god now but let me say it was rubbish then, it wouldn't recognize my Hotmail, so i had to make another one then it demanded a parent email which HAD to be Microsoft so i had to make 2 bloody email addresses to for windows live so i could save my game... only to find i couldnt get more than 20 fps and it stuttered because rockstar didn't patch it properly. This all happend around 2 years ago, and i though recently i would like to play it again, only to find that the game wont support windows 8 AT ALL, so after installing the game wouldn't even open because it had compatibility ISSUES... i even tried running it with compatibility mode and that didn't work either. so i bought it through steam cos it was dirt cheap and i was getting desperate at this point, and it still didnt work steam never mentioned that it will not work on windows 8... but i eventually found a solution, it had something to do with stupid windows live, i had to add 2 scripts into the games files named XLivless. these basically disabled windows live and let it run on windows 8. My big question to Rockstar is............ what was going through their minds when they decided to make millions of copies of the game that had a version of the game that wouldn't run on ANYBODIES computer. and why would they MAKE us create a rockstar account only to have use stupid windows live aswell!

There thats my rant for the day...

If anyone is having the same problem: Update your game
google Xliveless and place these into your game files
This will also make using a rockstar social club account optional if you only want single player.

Well... I dont recall "they decided to make millions of copies of the game that had a version of the game that wouldn't run on ANYBODIES computer". It ran ok on my system Windows XP Home without any issues and it was a Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4Ghz CPU and Geforce BFG 8800GT GPU and 3GB DDR2 667Mhz RAM. But in manufacturing of just about everything there is a pressure to get stuff released to start collecting money on it after all the money was spent invested into it.

I worked for a company one time that even had to make a shipment of product in order to get paid in order to be able to pay payroll and we had a shortage of 9 volt battery terminals for Caller ID systems that the company manufactured in the early 1990s. So to get paid and pay payroll. The owner of the company demanded that we box up and ship out the product. The product was junk because it would not work without the 9 volt battery terminal with a battery attached to POWER it. He got paid for product that he knew was not going to function and we got our paychecks. Then customers bought the Caller IDs and sent them back in and it was a simple apology... ooops sorry. And we shipped them a new one or added the 9 volt battery terminal to the Caller ID and tested it and shipped it out to them. I ended up leaving that company when paychecks started bouncing and the owner got into serious legal issues with a woman that he gave improper suggestion to.

I bought GTA4 and never had a problem with mine. I had a windows live account from having to register another video game that required it. I keep a little notebook with stuff like windows live account and alias accounts for games I registered etc.

The only GTA title I had issues with was Vice City back around 2003 when I bought a brand new HP Pavilion Pentium 4 2.00Ghz which was a $999 computer for $719 on clearance because it was a returned computer at staples. I got it home and found out that GTA Vice City would just show the loading icon pointer and then bail out back to Windows XP Home. Further inspection of system I found out that the Intel 845GL graphics with 64MB wasnt enough. So I opened up the case to install an AGP video card. GREAT!!! NO AGP SLOT!!!! Go back to store and return AGP nVidia FX5200 and find a PCI video card that would run it. All they had was the GeForce 4 MX440 64MB. This was listed as supported for Vice City. Bought video card and started game. Performance was so poor. The PCI bus was choking off the performance. Sold this computer a few months after owning it for a heavy loss at $400. Took $400 and applied it to a Compaq Presario S6030NX Athlon XP 2800+ system for $549 from Radio Shack, just buying the tower without monitor and extras, that had an AGP slot. Bought the nVidia FX5200 128MB AGP video card and was then able to finally play GTA Vice City without any problems. So only problem ever with a GTA title was that a brand new computer couldnt run it because it needed a computer with a good graphics processor and Pentium 3 800Mhz or better I think the specs were, and the Pentium 4 2000Mhz with 512MB DDR 266Mhz RAM, and integrated Intel 845GL 64MB wasnt powerful enough for it, and HP were total idiots to buy motherboards with no AGP slot YET there was a location on the motherboard to have an AGP slot but none populated there to save 50 cents on the motherboard cost or something like that. Looked as if HP stated they wanted to buy a board from a board manufacturer but we want cheaper boards for our systems so please remove the AGP slots for the batch of boards you ship to us and this way we can get the boards just a hair cheaper. HP saving maybe 50 cents cost me $319. Before I bought the Compaq Presario from Radio shack I requested to open the cover and look inside and the guy at Radio Shack said sure. I looked in and saw the AGP slot and said I'll buy it!
GTA IV Runs fine on Windows 8.1 for me. I don't remember any problems with Windows Live (beyond being stupid and making save files harder to move to a new PC) Or Performance issues (Ran without issue on Q8200+Geforce 9800GT and 8GB RAM)i read lots of people having issues with it, i tried running it on a custom built core i5 4460 8 gb ram and a gtx 660 and it was unplayable until i updated it. Those troubles with Vice city would have been very annoying, gta 3 and vice city were a bit before my time, my first GTA games was vice city stories on the PSP i didnt start playing games on a computer until 2012, and i started with San Andreas, but i have had no other issues with any other gta game only gta 4. I still dont know why they even used windows live, since they were already using their social club. perhaps social club wasn't ready for multiplayer then, im not sure. It was just a bit painful to sign up for 2 different services only to play single player...I bought a second hand version of GTA4, and I'm using windows 8. This was a few months ago. I installed it but when I click on the icon it says "No disc inserted" even though the disc IS inserted. Can anyone help me?Quote

This is common with 2 conditions... #1 The Drive or Disc is damaged. #2 the Disc is copy of the original and is failing the anti-piracy feature that verifies that the disc is original. If other discs are fine in the drive and the disc isnt damaged then its probably #2 as the problem.

It was bought from a chain of stores called CEX, they have a lot of shops selling second hand electrical goods. All the pakheging is there and the discs have the GTA pictures on them. Nobody would bother going to so much effort to pirate it for the sake of a few quid. It seems genuine. Last time I tried the disc sometimes it says there is no disc, other times it comes up with a log in box for the Rockstar social club, but won't let me create an account.CEX is a UK chain of stores that sell used hardware and SOFTWARE. Some comments I have found

Quote
last time i was a customer there was when they still sold imports & even then they were hardly great. Nowdays the shops are just good places for chavs & crackheads to offload stolen games & mobiles. Online is even worse as their condition ratings are a minefield of lies.

Im amazed people still shop there to be honest.

Quote
Used to buy psp games from them and some even turned up with a fake plastic case with no manual and a poorly printed black and white cover!

Even instore practically everything but blu rays are full of scratches. I wouldnt bother.

Quote
I didnt go near my local stores for ages, they were selling ps2 games for about £2 with reprinted covers that looked very much like pirated games and very bad ones at that, i highlighted this to them online and they claimed that they were reprinted by the store as a 'security measure' even though the case you take to the till just gets a manual (if it exists) and disc added to it.

The game does seem genuine but may be faulty for some other reason. At the same time I bought GTA4 I also got the previous Fallout game from them, but had to take it back because one of the discs was missing!CEX has got a name for selling scratched or otherwise damaged disks.
Well, I'll put the game to one side for the moment. Life's too short (even though I really would like to play it). For some reason, when I boot my computer up I get the Rockstar Social club log in box popping up. How do I stop it doing that? Why did not you buy the GTA game on-line in its official site?Kikobrian55, you are reviving a lot of dead threads.

Solve : Dragon Age Inquisition - Great Game to play while out of work injured?

Answer»

Just wanted to share that I picked up Dragon Age Inquisition for $19.99 USD and its probably the best $20 spent on a game in a while. I am out of work right now due to messing up my left knee at work stepping down from a machine in which I landed on my left foot and twisted my leg and damaged tearing the meniscus when my knee popped and buckled. Getting MRI tomorrow and then likely surgery, but needed something to help pass the time and bored with the games I already own. So I had to go get ibuprofen anyways so I went to nearby electronics department and looked over the limited game selection at walmart and Dragon Age caught my attention because I played the first 2 of them and enjoyed those, and this newer one was a much larger game and good reviews and over 100 Game of the Year awards I figured the $19.99 price tag was worth giving it a try.

Installation was 4 DVD discs, and reinstalling my Origin account on this clean build gaming system. After installing the 4 DVDs, the game then needed a almost 3GB patch, and a few other updates to Origin and when finally installed consumed 29.4GB of my SSD.

Game Requires Minimum Requirement of Quadcore 2.5Ghz or faster CPU and 4GB RAM, and 8800GT or better video card.

I decided to install it on my older gaming system that uses less electricity than my 8-core system to see if its performance would be acceptable. On the following spec system it runs flawless and loads fast thanks to the 128GB SSD.

Quote

Athlon II x4 620 ( Overclocked from 2600 to 2728Mhz )
4GB DDR2 800Mhz Corsair XMS2 ( 2 x 2GB Dual CHANNEL )
128GB Toshiba SSD SATA3 running on SATA2
Biostar MCP6PB-M2+ ( AM2+ Motherboard - Maxed out on 4GB RAM )
Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium
Geforce GT 730 2GB 128-Bit Video Card

I was surprised that the game running on this hardware didnt load heavily on it and I can run FRAPS and record gameplay with only a small amount of occasional quick freeze frames when game is accessing the SSD to load map files etc and the SSD is busy writing recorded game content.

The game if you want to play it to rush to the end, you can play that style. Myself I like to explore and test the boundaries of the game. The game gives you a feel of a live world environment where you can wander off the road and go exploring which is a big plus for me because I just about never follow a road in a game and attack monsters and enemies from the front. Instead I love to explore and attack with strategy to thin out a mob before aggroing a boss or elite so that the fight is more controlled when I can as well as this game has hidden objects and materials scattered throughout. I found for example off the beaten path when scoping out an area that is off the one main linear objective of the game a group of monsters hanging out at a fire. I walked around to scope out the area and decided to go after them with the group of assist coop like characters that help you who are part of the story line. From a programmers point of view, there is usually reason as to why some monsters were tucked away off the beaten path. Why are they there?

So I went up against them and killed them off. And when I got to the fire they were huddled around I found a sack of coins spilled out on the floor and grabbed that, but even better was finding an Amulet that is a cheat death type of amulet. Wearing it, if your character was to take on a ton of damage beyond that of our health pool, this amulet will shatter when worn around your neck and +50 your HP so you can cheat death as long as you going get hit again taking 50HP or greater.

Buildings on fire you can go inside and also find hidden objects to use. Oddly though you can stand in a wall of fire in a burning building though and I didnt see any damage to myself as a result of being in there. I almost didnt go in for fear that I would go in and burn to death, but walked in quick ready to run out and didnt see any damage taken so I then went snooping around inside to scavenge for materials and hidden objects to use. Glad I did because it had a number of items inside materials and coins as well as a leather helm to increase my armor rating.

While I waited almost hour and a half to install the game from DVD's and then the 3GB patch and some smaller Origin patches I went looking at youtube videos to give me some insight as to gameplay, character creation, etc. One guy said the game is very addicting. Well I have played it for just an hour and YES, I am enjoying it and feel that urge to go back to playing it as I share info about it here, however I filled up my SSD with recorded game play and now VirtualDubbing the video into smaller AVI files to a USB stick and using my electron sipper workstation to be here on CH with the 25 watt Kabini 1.3Ghz CPU.

Graphics are very good, characters in game lifelike, objects and environment realistic. They have extensive character options for your character appearance and you can go with a base character appearance for male or female of 4 races or you can specify a race and then highly customize male or female characters with COLOR of skin, all other facial attributes you could just about ever think of including adding make up to the faces and controlling how defined on contrast the make up is. As one youtube reviewer stated you could make a drag queen if you wanted to with how highly customizable the character appearance can get if you want it to be looking that way.

The other feature of the game that is impressive is that the story line isnt just a bunch of guys with females sidelined from major roles in the game. So many games have just a group of guys on a mission and the females are the NPCs that just wander around and work in an inn etc. In this game there is a definite balance of gender. It starts off with a female in charge for example and later its a mix of both genders as the story line builds.

Additionally this game is almost a mix of so many other games. Other than the core of what Dragon Age is from playing the first 2 games prior to this, it has hints of Rift, Fable, and Dungeon Crawlers/Grinders for hidden objects and loot, and I even felt as if I was playing in the snowy area of Lich King - World of Warcraft, yet also has the feel of a MMORPG even though I am only playing the single-player mode now, they do have a multiplayer cooperative game play which I will try out later so that I dont get paired up with very skilled gamers and myself stand out as a noob. I will give the multiplayer part a try after I have mastered the single-player mode.

Im happy that the game is only the cost of the game off the shelf and rest of the game play is free. You connect to Origin and then game server that as of right now, I am thinking all content for single player is local on the hard drive so its probably just an anti piracy feature to require connecting to a server to play single player.

Lastly they have a Dragon Age Keep Feature which allows importing of content from prior Dragon Age games to this game. Myself I decided to just go with the default and start fresh vs being bound by decisions and rep I made in the prior versions. More info on the KEEP here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_csmpaPapk

With a true review you need cons with the pros. So here is the very few cons I have.

In the character creation on the first screen, the gender of your character is an option that can easily be overlooked. I when making my first character last night went through the customization and got to a point that I was like, I know you can create female characters, but where is that option. I didnt see it in the menu of options when creating the character. So today I started a new character. This time I was more careful to look around before just clicking to what was center of the screen. Sure enough top left of the screen had a gender option that didnt stand out sharply to me and I was then able to select female. So with a user interface for character selection, they probably should have placed this gender choice in a location that it is not overlooked, possibly after selecting the race you want, a new screen of gender, and then class, etc.

I wish this game had an offline mode so that I can play single-player on my laptop when traveling someday without having to keep an internet connection to play.

Left Click on mouse shares ability to tilt camera angle as well as attack targets or such as with my Female Human Mage, when adjusting the camera angle because I am walking up a hill and dont want to look at the ground up instead look up hill to see what I am going to get myself into, I send lightning bolts out in front of me and this can aggro something by ACCIDENT and this is the controls by default. I found that both the left and right mouse click can control the tilt of camera view and if you avoid the left click and instead hold the right click instead you can safely move the camera angle tilt and not THROW out random lightning bolts ahead of you.

While warned about this last con in a youtube video figured Id share it here to complete the review I have on it, but while you have so much diversity in changing appearance of your character, you are not given options to change height and weight of a character so the characters features other than the head is everyone gets the same body from the head down from whatever race and gender.

Well I think thats it for now. Will add more later if its important to share on this. The videos are done encoding to AVI's and so now to delete the 30GB of video files which were turned into about 3GB of AVI files, grab lunch, and get back to playing Dragon Age Inquisition.

Lots of videos on youtube to check out if anyone is looking for a lengthy game like this and wants to see gameplay before buying. I bought it blindly not having seen the gameplay prior to this and just based it on my satisfaction with the first 2 releases of Dragon Age + sticker on outside of the case stating over 100 game of the year awards and only $19.99 and no monthly fees to play it was a good purchase on my part. One Youtube reviewer stated that if you rush through the game you could get in done in about 80 hours, but plan on about 300 hours of play. Myself with the fact that I like to wander off and look around for stuff hidden in the game, I will probably play it more than 300 hours before finishing it for that one character, and then go play a different race and class type. I went with Mage because I like ranged, but they have a Melee Rogue and a Ranged Rogue that are calling to me as well as for I have played as Rogue in other games and love the sneaky and swift deadly abilities they have and martial art like pristine deadly motions to slice n dice the enemy. Aion and World of Warcraft were the better Rogues I played as assassin rogues as well as assassin/sub in WoW for years.

Solve : Games lag after a while?

Answer»

Hi all, so I have an issue here, games lag after a while in my GTX 480 previously, and also resolution cant go up to 1280x720. Now, I use my gt 430, I have a game called GTA 4. it's running ok and the screen resolution goes to 1360x768, but when i turn it up, the resolution goes to 1280x720, yet the text looks smaller. Anyways, GTA IV runs ok but after 30 minutes, the game STUTTERS. I still don't get how the PC possibly bottlenecks somewhat by itself, maybe.... My SPECS: Intel core i7, GT 430, 8 GB RAM, h61m-p35 (ms-7680), Power up ATX 650w.
Thanks.

The GT430 is far weaker than the GTX480. I have the GT430 in one of my systems and its a $40 video card which is ok, but not a GTX480, the one I have has a thin heatsink and small cooling fan and has run PRETTY hot, so I had to add more airflow to the heatsink/fan of the GPU and now it runs at around 57C when gaming and 32C idle.Quote from: DaveLembke on June 25, 2014, 05:00:00 PM

Yeah...i was thinking why WOULD you use the gt when you have gtx480. I have a gtx460 and GTA IV runs fine without any of the issue you are experiencing. The 480 is a high end card in its class so you should use thatI have the same problem, my GTX 480 which is supposed to be a far superior card lags in Windows 8 games, particularly asphalt 8, which has just basic graphics and my ATi 4850 which is a much cheaper card runs them smoothly and flawlessly. Feels like I just wasted all this money on a GTX 480. Help anyone.I have the same issue im playing warlords of draenor and aion, just at this two games, when i play minecraft or runescape is fine You should absolutely be using 64bit windows 7. Reinstall that. You can use the same licence code for 32 and 64bit. Also check if you have a memory leak. Once it starts to lag, open up task manager and see how much RAM is being utilized. Run MemTest86+ for 24 hours and see if your RAM faults. Last, don't forget to update your driver.

GTA IV is a PORT for PC , also called as "The worst PC port ever"

Its a console game which is poorly optimized for PC , no matter how good GPU you have , it will run badly
btw gt430 in comparison to 480 is like rey mysterio vs big show

I hve 660ti & still it STUTTERED so i uninstalled
note :- Lag & stutter are differentthis video fixed it for me

Solve : Changing XP to Vista for better install & play PC Gameplay games?

Answer»

Reasons that I'm still with XP MEDIA center edition that did work well playing mid 2000's games v.good & the PC has access for 4GB memory 4- sata hdd which is a bonus too. This PC of mine crashed, I used system recovery which now I can play games like battlefield 1942, panzer elite, but can't play the more advanced battlefield 2142 anymore ? It took myself a long time to find out how to make this game run & play single / online too., but I wonder if I should use one of my two Vista Home Basic PC's HP or Acer ? The HP being the weaker & the Acer having more memory & bit bigger processor speed too. Not sure which Windows XP 05' or Vista 07' PC would be best over-all to run gameplay pc games from 2005 to 2011. Seems as I once heard that Vista might give myself more problem error issues or crashes than using XP for installng & playing gameplay software Just try it.

Games produced close to and since Vista was released will have been designed with the Vista environment in mind and will work fine. Most games older than the Vista release will work too, although you may have to run some in compatibility mode. Just got my XP to Sp3 once again ,but to play any past Origin games they say I have to upgrade to at least Win. 7 for their exe application to run & which any game I choose to play. Not sure how to do this kind of upgrade operation ,but I will need to find out how soon This might be good to know...
Anybody can install and run Windows 10 on a separate partition if there is 20 GB of free space. And you can use many features of Windows 10 even before you buy the license. So, you may try ma it and see if it improves the performance of your games. In some ways Windows 10 is better that Vista for performance, even with older computers. However, a few programs just can not wok of Windows 10. But it costs nothing to try.

Win.10 is not avalible for free no more, but I can not see or find current Vista to Win 7 upgrade options either. What I can tell that Win 10 system requierments are above my two good working Vista PC's I think not sure over-all ? Heard Win 7 is better than 8 & the other higher Windows avalible too. The object is to run older gameplay games in single player modes on either my XP or one of my soon to be upgraded Vista home basic PC INSTEAD. Then my last Vista pc will be used to surf the internet & run one advanced music mastering program only which may help not to overload or crash any of my 3 working Pc's Are you sure that Vista will work better than XP?

Solve : GFX Card Recommendations??

Answer»

I have an INTEL HD Graphics Card but I am looking to REPLACE it to enable me to play games demanding of HIGHER graphic capabilities. Which one should I get? I have had the NVIDIA 720 recommended to me before but what are other options? What make/model computer do you have, as well as what games titles would you be playing on this system so we can give you some suggestions?

You might need a small form factor video card, or a higher wattage power supply or you might be able to simply install a card and the power supply that came with the system high enough watt rating to run say a GT type card. More info needed to give you the best ANSWERS to this.I use an ASUS desktop PC. My processor is an Intel core 2.90 GHz and it uses a 64 bit Windows 8.1 OS. MI use an ASUS desktop PC. My processor is an Intel core 2.90 GHz and it uses a 64 bit Windows 8.1 OS. My graphics card is an Intel HD 44000 with a total memory capacity of 1792 MB.

I intend to play Fallout 4 and Star Citizen. I use Steam to download games. The ASUS Desktop should have a model number... this is important to look up your specific computer.

An example is: CM6730-US003O

There should be a label on it somewhere that shows the model number.K30AD on the actual tower. The FULL model number is K30AD_M31AD_M51AD.

I was wondering if there are any free (preferably browser based) games out there similar to GTA or Fallout, where you can explore the world and do prety much what you want?

Almost a month old... but maybe still interested in this, so i will answer it. Somehow it fell off the radar in july.

Due to limitations in the browsers ability to render GRAPHICALLY intense games, you will find that games for a browser will be limited to flash type of games or javascript etc. A GOOD example of game limitations in a brower environment would be to LOOK at games on Facebook for example which are flash type of games.

In order to get GTA and Fallout graphics and performance, the game needs to specifically run on its own calling out to RAM directly and calling out to the video card to render without the crippling limitations of what a browser environment permits.

Limitations in browser games is mainly 2 reasons.

#1 - (Trust Limitations/Security ) Browsers need to be secure, and you wouldn't want a rogue website being able to run code that will directly call to your hardware which would be a hackers paradise situation.

#2 - (Bandwidth) Intense Graphics = Textures, Map and Audio files are called upon frequently by video games some files can be 1GB in size that are called upon and that's why most of the games are large installs. While the internet has GROWN and bandwidth with it, it still doesn't make sense to have all game data on a web server for the video game and more sense to allow a user to install majority of the game and then portions that prohibit piracy on the server side protected but required for the game to run.

So there are none that work strictly on just browser that I am aware of due to these issues and limitations.Just wanted to add my recommendation as I have been also through this phase. I'd like to suggest one game, Dying Light, last year back in January. It has a huge open world, a lot of stuff to do and a great single player campaign. It may not be like GTA, but it is a great addition to open world games.

Solve : Delete Game Data?

Answer»

Hi Everybody, first of i want to apologize if my ENGLISH isn't the best. I really try to stick to it the best i can, but my first language is Spanish (and second German).

I'm not sure if this is even in the right category, but i guess its a good place to start. My problem are some MMORPGs i uninstalled year's ago. I realized a while ago even though i uninstalled them through Control Panel, they're data are still on my PC. They have been hidden (not really hidden) all this time and have been eating a lot of memory space. The first game called "Age of Conan" has been taken 24 GBs away and the other one called "Aion" 20GBs.

So i wanted to ask how do i delete all of those files? The GAMES do not appear on my Program list and i'm not sure if i just can go on and delete all of the files. My computer is a ACER Aspire X3990 with WINDOWS 7, Intel Core i3 2100. The game's are under Program Files (x86) (again, they where not really hidden, they are just a product of my laziness of actually checking my programs :b ). In "Age of Conan" what is actually taken away most of the memory space are the RDB files (?) which seem to take away 24,2 GBs alone. On "Aion" it's more distribute between FOLDER's as Objects (9,9 GBs), Levels (5,4 GBs) and so on. Do i have to extract the RBD files or other data's in some kind of way?

I just want to get all of the data off my Computer.
Thank you in advance I hope that this post is in any kind of way understandable
And greetings from Germany If they are gone from add/remove programs in Windows, then they are orphan data and you can simply target the folder and delete them. Aion hides their stuff under NCSoft. Age of Conan I bought way back and it was the worst $50 ever wasted. Tried to unload it onto ebay shortly after buying it but there was a flood of other people unimpressed with the game and they were selling for like $3.00. I simply tossed my AoC game into the trash because $3 wasnt worth the ebay hassle of listing and selling and shipping etc.

I played Aion and love my scout. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and seen how they orphan data on your system.

Solve : World of Warcraft - External Hard Drive work around for removal of support?

Answer»

Just sharing this here in CASE ANYONE else on the web is looking for a way to run World of Warcraft off of an EXTERNAL hard drive. Up until Legion expansion it use to work for me. But recently BLIZZARD broke the game execution through external hard drive connected via USB and now states an error message on Battle.net stating Execution of World of Warcraft to en external device is no longer supported.

I didnt want to consume 48GB of my SSD to run the game and so I went looking for an alternate way to make this work. Sure enough Blizzard does not verify that the path is linked to a symbolic link and so I am able to install WoW to my C: drive, then move the game to my E: drive which is external hard drive, and then delete the C: installation of WoW and create a symbolic link to the external hard drives path to the game and it works with no error messages.

Not sure why Blizzard wanted to kill off running the game on an external hard drive, but I just cant see it eating up almost 50GB of space to run it on my SSD.

Here is the symbolic link that I used highlighted. My installation is custom to C:\World of Warcraft. Anyone with default installation would have to change the path to MATCH their installation path and change destination path of symbolic link to make it work for them. This below was run on my Windows 7 system and you need to open up the command prompt with runas administrator.

Solve : Changing files into .bin files?

Answer»

Hello,
I'm trying to build a custom map in a game called Empire Earth, the map features a part of the real world and I want to make the map is REALISTIC as possible. I've found a site through other forum posts that let's me select a grid of the map and it will than give me info (amount of columns/rows etc). This link however dates back from 2004, and since than the map where you select a grid has changed, the main point is that you used to be able to download the required info in a .bin file which than later you were able to change to .dat (.dat is needed) by simply typing in a different extension. However now I only seem to be able to download the file I need in .tif, .asc (ascII), .grd or .nc. My question is:
Is there any WAY to change the .tif, .asc, .grd or .nc into a .bin or .dat file? I'm really noob at this, so I don't know which exact info I need that should be in the .bin or .dat files, I just know I need the .bin or .dat file of the particular grid of the map I want. I really need some help here, thank you in advance .

The site with the map I use to select a particular part of the map is this: http://maps.ngdc.noaa.gov/viewers/wcs-client/
(If there are other sites like this that give me the option to do the same but than let me download the info I need in .bin or .dat that is fine too)
Regards,
KiwiId try a converter to make a binary file from an ascii file and save it as a .bin file and see if that helps. However no guarantee it will work.

http://www.rapidtables.com/convert/number/ascii-to-binary.htmThank you, I'll try that. As I said I'm pretty noob at this, can you walk me through how exactly I do this? It asks me to input ascII text input does that simply mean I have to input the file's name? and what exactly is a delimiter string, and waht do I have to input there? Thank you

Regards,
KiwiOkay, I've FIGURED out I had to open the ascII file in a text document, copy and apste everything in there in the coverter. So I tried that, it crashed several times before I was able to do so, simply because there's an enourmous amount of numbers in that file. When I managed to paste all numbers in there, I found out, the text bar where you can paste teh files info is to small to fit all the nubmers of the file I'm trying to convert, it fits in about half of all the nubmers needed. Any IDEAS what to do now?
Thank you,

Dear regards,
KiwiSeems as though due to likely a clipboard maximum character limit within the program that you would need to have a program that read in the ASCII and writes it to file as a Binary file then that doesnt have this limitation. I havent tested this program out, but here is another that might solve this for you.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/ttbconvert/Ok, thank you I'll try this

Dear regards,
KiwiOk, I'm not 100% sure this will be a safe download, since there are several reports on severals sites saying that the download site you gave me also puts junkware/malware allong with their downloads. Is there any other program that would be safer?Other than writing your own to do it, your stuck with HUNTING for one that will do it for you. I'm unable to test whether download is safe or not from where I am at... so its best to find one, download it, scan it for malware and virus and if clean and its one that has an installer associated with it to be careful when installing it to not just click next but read all prompts to uncheck unwanted bundleware etc. And then run malwarebytes and a virus scan after just to be sure nothing flew in under the radar.Ok, thank you, I will do that. Thanks for your help so far.

Regards, Kiwi

Solve : Computer Very Slow Suddenly Even with Lowest Graphics Settings?

Answer»

Hello,

About a year and a half ago I bought a brand new ASUS X450CA Laptop. I'm in high school so I don't have much money. I saved up for two years and bought this laptop on sale from the ASUS website for $950.00

Computer Specs:
ASUS X450CA 2014
Intel Core i7 3537U CPU @ 2.40 GHz
Windows 8
8 GB RAM
NVIDIA GEFORCE 720M Graphics Card

For about a year the laptop worked great. At the time, my internet was quite bad but the laptop always worked fine. I bought it so I could have a GOOD laptop for school work, as well as computer gaming. The game I play on it is World of Tanks. This game is not demanding and for a long time, I was able to play it on minimum graphics with between 60 and 100 fps.

After about a year the computer started gradually getting slower. A quarter of a year ago I tried to download a bunch of stuff that gave me quite a few viruses, a browser hijacker and some other malware and adware. Once I had all that stuff my fps dropped to between 10 and 25 (unbearable). Even just typing in a web page and loading it would take anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes. So, after spending a month endlessly trying to fix it, I put it away on a shelf.

Recently I got it back out and factory restored it. Deleting everything from it and reinstalling windows 8. For 1 1/2 weeks, my computer played World of Tanks and did everything else great again (though World of Tanks was only running at between 50 and 60 fps, that's fine for me). Two days ago my computer went more or less back to the way it was with the viruses and infections. World of Tanks has been running at 15-25 fps which I am unable to play with. All other things on my computer like web pages and watching videos is still fine but gaming is not. I have run several tests and I have absolutely nothing wrong with viruses or anything of the sort. I now only have World of Tanks and google chrome on my computer.

I am at the end of my leash here. I cannot afford to buy a new laptop and I really need this one. If anyone can help me get my computer running well again like it used to I would be so grateful. Please if anyone can help, do so. I'm not that good with computers so I MIGHT not be able to do complicated coding or anything but I will try.

Sincerely, Samuel Parker Have you run speedfan or another temp sensor/display program to check temperatures? If your laptop runs hot it will slow its performance to avoid melt down. Games would be IMPACTED by this, while other use that is not so demanding MAY act normal. Your CPU should be less than 55C and GPU should be less than 60C.i would like to ask are you making sure to keep your drivers updated as a driver that does not have the current updates can ALSO run into problems.

Solve : Saved Game Data Editing - Torchlight 2?

Answer»

Decided to TAKE a LOOK in the .bin save game file for Torchlight 2 with a binary/hex editor and while it displays the hex to the left side the right side shows ascii and for a value like FF and A0 the ascii shows as . and . yet FE would be like ö and other ascii

Was hoping I COULD write down items in inventory and then try to find their location within the saved game binary file.

Anyone have any knowledge of tweaking saved game .bin files ... is there more to it than just a binary/hex editor to see the files for what they represent without trial and error changing a value and STARTING game and seeing what it affects to MAP out the saved game file .bin file?

I agree with you.Quote from: DanniRAWR on July 12, 2011, 06:36:27 PM
I was just wondering if there was any news about the game you were looking for? I also remember PLAYING the game. I wish I could remember more, but I just remember various activities in the game, such as working my way through a labyrinth, picking up pieces of inventions along the way. After doing so, I was able to build a scuba-like apparatus, and when I finally escaped the labyrinth, I would get in the flying machine and fly away...

There was a game with the flying machine as well, and you had to navigate your way across a terrain full of obstacles without crashing...I just wish I could figure out what the name of the game was and/or where to find it!

I played the exact same games . . . The labyrith was made up of 2 buildings, circular right? and u had to get to the other BUILDING via the scuba or water-walking invention (or maybe it was a bridge . . . eh). There was also the painting of The Last Supper there and there were a lot of side rooms connecting to the labyrinth. Inventions included the flying machine with bat-like wings, a flying object that rotated to glide/fly around, the water-walking/scuba invention, and a circular wooden invention that worked as a 360° CANNON or something. There was also a pre-machine gun, that rotated forward as it used up ammo and seemed like a . . . wagon-gun?
btw, hello from 2016! XD

Solve : NES Classic relaunch Nov 11, 2016 with 30 games?

Answer»

Looks like Nintendo might actually make a all-in-one 30-game system available similar to the Atari, Sega, and other older game system all-in-one's finally.

In my collection of game systems, I have the original NES and many games, but I dont play it much because its more of a collectors item now. I have a modern Chinese NES Clone (Yobo) system though that plays the older cartridges and so when wanting to play Mario 3 or some other game I will use the clone box to play the games which is top insertion so that you dont need to blow on the games and pray to play them, that it will WORK without the blue screen flash or garbled pixelated graphics from poor connection between the cartridge and system etc.

It will be nice to play many titles that I enjoy playing in this and then put the original games into safe dry storage. I guess I know what I want to buy myself for Christmas this year.

http://www.dailydot.com/debug/nintendo-nes-classic-relaunch-date/?fb=gkI can see the APPEAL, in particular it's more affordable than most other options (barring PC emulation, which I suppose would be free). I'll probably end up getting one even though it provides me nothing of value as I've got an Everdrive N8.

BTW, I'm pretty sure Blowing on Games is one reason why people have problems with the Original Front-Loader system. Mine still works perfectly- no less reliable than my SNES or N64, and I've never blown in any of my cartridges.I just found out about this a few days ago. I've been wanting to start collecting retro games but I haven't had the money. The NES was my first console, so I'll probably end up getting it. I'm also lazy and hate having to switch games in and out. I don't think even the new consoles can hold 30 games with how big all of the download sizes are.Yes thats another plus to these all-in-one remake systems not having to swap games.

I am just hoping that the ROMs they use for the games are the actual originals and not a modernized ported version that is different. For the Atari 2600 all-in-one which I think has 40 titles, there are some differences in sound and graphics that stand out so its close to the original but different.

I noticed that Duck Hunt as well as other game titles REQUIRING the gun controller are missing from the list of titles and thats because the original games require a CRT display in order to function properly for hit box detection. On my original NES and Yobo clone my gun wasnt working and I thought the gun was broken. Borrowed a gun controller from a friend and still not working. Held gun to the screen and still missed the ducks when back in teh day as a kid doing this was a way to get crazy scores. I then did research online and found that the way the game detects the hit box on the screen it needs the CRT after glow which LED and LCD displays dont do.

Back in the day of the mid to late 1980s it was what just about everyone did and it worked unless someone spit into the cartridge. There were even cleaning kits for the cartridges. My friend had one cleaning kit that i could have sworn was pickle juice based on its smell with a foam tipped stick to wipe down the gold contacts.

Speaking of SNES and N64 .. I still have my SNES and never ever had the contact issue with the top loading of it. I never understood why they went with the insert and push down to spring loaded pins design of the original NES. I thought maybe it was to just be different than all the other systems that were forced insertion to top of game consoles like the Atari systems and others, with Commodore 64 being in the side of keyboard etc. I miss my N64 and if they make a N64 all-in-one system I am hoping they place 007 Golden Eye on the game list of included titles. I loaned the game system to a friend and it got stolen while at his house with all my games and he never paid me for the loss or replaced the system. Ebay is just a few clicks away to replace it, but it would be at my expense and i actually dont play console games as much as I use to. The Playstation 3 that I have I pretty much gave to my daughter to have and I have the 2 other playstations before that in storage. Never bought the XBox because of the ring of death problems people were having and I cant justify paying $50-60 per game title.

I think thats probably one of the reasons why I became a PC Gamer vs Console Gamer is that games are cheaper and almost endless selection of what you can RUN on the computer with the right Hardware and OS combination vs a console system being locked into limited list of titles and all at a premium of serious cash unless you buy second or 3RD hand games from a rental store or gamestop trade-in's.

Solve : Windows Live?

When I try and verify the release date of my games it comes back saying that it's not able too an needs too be connected online, HOWEVER, I am connected online and have the most recent of Windows Live.

Dead Rising 2
BioShock
Batman Arkham Asylum
Curious why the release date is important.... is it looking for a build number to test to see if its current for online play to where the games need to be PATCHED to latest for online play and OLDER builds are unplayable? If this is the CASE then you MIGHT be able to manually patch them forward to current.

Solve : Laptops for football manager??

Hi
I was just wondering what laptops/notebooks people could recommend under £200 for playing football MANAGER 2016 on?
I was playing it on my mums Asus which only cost about £150 I think but that's BROKEN now.
Football manager is pretty much the only GAME I play and the only other things I use a laptop for is facebook, emails etc so really I don't want to SPEND LOADS when I don't use it for much.
I'm not too hot on technical stuff so any advice would be great.
Thanks :-)

Solve : Solitaire for Windows 10 other than the one it came with????

Answer»

I have a Windows 10 laptop and I do not like the Solitaire game that comes with it. Much prefer the ONE a have on my Windows 7 Pro desktop. Is there a way of getting the older Microsoft version of Solitaire on Windows 10, or is there a free Solitaire game to download that doesn't come with a lot of strings attached and malware? I would like one that I could play off line as my internet service here is wickedly slow and restrictive in the MB department. It helps pass the time when I am left on "HOLD" on the phone. Thank youAssuming this is not call-and-response, here is one link

Solve : World of Warcraft 6.2.4 - Underclocked and 25 watt APU?

Answer»

Decided to test out World of Warcraft 6.2.4 on a computer I built that I never intended for World of Warcraft. But curiosity got the best of me and so I installed it to this low power consumption system to see how it would run if it could actually run it.

System Specs:

Gigabyte Socket AM1 Motherboard
Sempron 3850 Kabini Quadcore 1300Mhz 2MB CACHE APU
with Radeon HD 8280 Graphics 512MB with 1507MB shared for total of 2019MB graphics memory available ( 400Mhz )
4GB DDR3 ( 2 x 2GB ) SINGLE-channel because the kabini doesnt support dual-channel 1333Mhz
90GB OCZ SSD
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS

At normal running conditions with clock at 1300Mhz for the CPU and all 4 cores active World of Warcraft ran actually very well with normal graphics settings. Frame rate was in the 25-30 range depending on what was being rendered.

I decided to set core affinity to cripple the execution of World of Warcraft down to a single core at 1300Mhz and it still continued to run pretty well. Only a small hit in the frame rate performance so the CPU with only 1 core available was acting as a bottleneck to the GPU.

Then I decided to go into the BIOS and change my multiplier to 8 from 13 which DROPPED the APU, CPU to 798Mhz. Started up World of Warcraft and it ran, load time was longer but once loaded it was running pretty good on all 4 cores active, but the CPU use was pretty heavy for all 4 cores with occasional fraction of a second freeze frames.

Then I set core affinity to a single 798Mhz core for WoW to run on and it still continued to run, but it took a 10 frame per second hit in graphics performance and the game was getting choppy.

Surprisingly the frame rate was about the same between running 798Mhz for all 4 cores as well as running 1 core at 1300Mhz for World of Warcraft.

Pic Below is lowest performance I could cripple World of Warcraft to for CPU at 798Mhz and a single core. Frame rate standing in PLACE was hovering around 18 FPS.

Solve : Online Game Log?

Answer»

I recently played a online game and being accused of using a script or automated bot , is there any way I can look at a log for a time they say I done this , and what programs were running ? I HOPE you guys can help as I furious over this In the future please give your requests for assistance a subject that relates to you question. I've TAKEN the liberty of changing this one from "can you help me" to something more pertinent. THANK you. What Game?

Anyone else using this account other than you?

Most online games such as from Blizzard Entertainment have memory sniffers. The memory sniffer looks for memory address manipulation of otherwise protected addresses that are the target of cheating, it will report back to them and they will ban you. If this was unexpected, I would be checking your system for any MALWARE or virus's that are trying to lift information from your account. A dirty addon module etc in which a gold farmer or hacker is looking for you to type in information that will allow for them to gain control over your account and steal virtual property and wealth as a means to sell it to someone else on BLACK market for real money.

More information is needed as Allan stated.

Generally you need to work out a ban with the game company, the first offense is usually a lock out period to teach a lesson that your system was caught and stop it. They dont permanently ban unless habitual offender or hacking took place in which you really blew it with them to where your too high of a risk to them to allow back in under that same account.

Solve : Paladins: Champions of the Realms?

Answer»

New to this forum. I'm sure there is a dated thread on this, as I searched and found such, but what are this forum's opinions on Paladins: Champions of the Realms VS Overwatch? I know Paladins has more of a MOBA feel to it, whereas in Overwatch classes tend to dictate the gameplay more, as there are certain situations suitable for certain classes depending on the type of game you are playing, the map, etc.

I have about 75 hours on OW, and I only downloaded Paladins about a week ago, not even, six days. However, I find myself more intrigued with Paladins, playing it MUCH more frequently, and for longer periods of time than when I first bought OW, and I think I'm going to stick with it as far as Hero/XP Based FPS games are around.

Again, thoughts on both games, and why you are partial to one or the other?

I don't think you have to be concerned about that, Video games are rarely a topic that attracts much attention here, which is actually pretty nice.

As for myself, after Quake II, the only game that I played ONLINE with any frequency was Minecraft, but that was back before running a Minecraft Server was big business and you could make a living off "donations" by being an unscrupulous, greedy jerk. It's one thing to aim to have the server pay for it's VPS. It's quite another to aim to use that as a revenue stream for payroll.

Anyway, point is, I've heard of Overwatch, and even heard that there was a similar game out and seen Internet arguments about it. Being that neither title interests me in the least, I've not been fussed to care about either.

Paladins: Champions of the Realm is a free-to-play team-based multiplayer first-person SHOOTER video game released in September 2016 as an early access product by Hi-Rez Studios. Within a week of its release on Steam, the game had attracted 800,000 downloads according to Steam Spy and was one of the top 10 most popular games by concurrent users on the service.[1]

Each PLAYER controls a hero character with differing abilities, and they are split into two teams who compete to achieve objectives. In response to accusations that the game is an Overwatch clone, Hi-Rez COO Todd Harris said that "[Overwatch] was not the inspiration for Paladins", and "the game that deserves the most credit is Team Fortress 2".[2]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paladins_(video_game)

My list of FPS games started with Wolfenstein 3D on a floppy disk from a friend on a 386 to run on my 286. Then Quake and Quake 2 on a Pentium CPU system years ago, tried Quake Arena in college in the late 1990s and didnt get into it then Unreal Tournament 99 GOTY Edition for many years https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unreal_Tournament , Counterstrike while also playing UT99 in between, then 2005 and got pulled into MMORPG with World of Warcraft for most of my time and little time with FPS still playing UT99 stopped playing CS when there were so many cheaters playing and walking in the air and instant headshots and the jump spam macros to avoid targeting them by players not using cheats as well as instant aim headshot cheats not requiring aim. Then played Warsow https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warsow_(video_game) for a while which was free, but liked UT99 better especially when able to download free maps and host my own UT99 server on a Pentium 3 to play with friends and strangers online, and then looked for a new FPS and found Alien Arena https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CodeRED:_Alien_Arena which was fun until I found out that the AI script cheats in the game. The AI in Alien Arena is able to see through objects and walls so if you hide around a corner waiting to snipe an AI, the minute it enters the room it turns and shoots you, so line of sight to the AI is 360 degrees with player detection vs only what is in front of it facing in which I should be undetected and able to snipe it unless it looks my way and detects me. I contacted those who do the dev work for Alien Arena and told them about how the AI's cheat. The answer I got was that its best played with real players vs the AI. I was hoping to play against AI's to get my game experience up so that I wouldnt enter a multiplayer arena as a complete noob. Stopped playing it, but now that I mention it I might redownload it and see if they corrected for AI that cheats. I then played Bloodrayne https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BloodRayne which was a Vampire hack n slash type of game and I had a lot of fun with that, but single player mode got kind of boring. I then got Doom 3 and Quake 4 but soon found myself using the GOD Mode Cheats because I was getting frustrated with the normal play being difficult to the point that without God Mode I wasnt satisfied with it, however this God Mode soon lost its luster as for what point is there in a game you cant die in and just shoot and kill everything with unlimited ammo and invincibility. Then got into Return to Castle Wolfenstein Platinum Edition https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Return_to_Castle_Wolfenstein which was a lot of fun and I avoided the cheats for the longest time but soon found myself hitting the tilde key and cheating to get past areas and enabling god mode because it was fun blowing the enemy away with a choice of weapons. I then got into Team Fortress a little bit, but found that the FPS games were starting to get stressful to play. Heart Racing and Adrenalin pumping and yelling curses etc ... my wife was starting to complain that I was getting way to into my games and annoying. Luckily i wasnt the type to throw the keyboard in rage or anything like that, but the FPS games I was getting carried away with and the stress wasnt good. Took the games way to serious, so I left FPS games and went to playing more MMORPG and Dungeon Crawler games that are more calm with only occasional vocal outbursts while playing. Most of which are much cleaner. Although playing as a Rogue in PvP on World of Warcraft, I started getting way too into that with assassinating players in a capture the flag type of game play and when people would camp the graveyard to gank you as you come back into the PvP play that aggravated me and I finally left PvP. Although I did have a PvP Realm that I played on as an Alliance Deathknight on Sargeras and everything was perfect there with occasional PvP until Blizzard decided to merge realms because people were leaving world of warcraft because you would be out playing away from the city and it was just about totally dead. No one playing PvE content. The merged realms consolidated players together to make the game look more lively as for the few playing PvE would now cross paths in play vs pass each other like 2 ships in the night isolated on different servers. The biggest problem with this merger of realms was that there were realms unbalanced with more horde than alliance, so the minute they merged sargeras with other realms it was a floodgate opened wide open of the worst ganking of alliance players in PvE areas I had ever seen. People were killing Quest NPC's so you couldnt complete PvE quests, players were camping graveyards for those killed anywhere in the zone to gank them once again as they try to leave the graveyard into the PvE world again, additionally there was a portal from Stormwind to the Dark Portal and the spawn location where you would exit to the Dark Portal zone 20 or 30 horde players would camp above the spawn location and instantly kill those entering for easy Honor Points and to be total ***es. To get through the Dark Portal to outlands they even had people camping that at both sides of it so if your lucky to sneak into it or rush into it at the other end was a gank party ready to kill you. Dungeon entrances also camped so you couldnt get into a dungeon or raid without getting killed. It felt as if the ratio was 15 horde to every 1 alliance player on the PvP merger. I left World of Warcraft playing on PvP realms after that and went to PvE or RP realms where you had to be flagged PvP to get ganked. Getting back to FPS vs the complaint about WoW, there are so many FPS games out there today. Many of them have many similarities to others.

Going to check out this Paladins game when I get home from work since its free to play. Only catch to many of the Free-to-Play games is that many of them are Free-to-Play and Pay-to-Win where they have you paying for objects or benefits that other free players dont get so your more powerful because you paid the developer of the game vs those who dont pay. I understand that they NEED to make money somehow, but the Pay-to-Win games I run away from very quickly. Games to me are either completely free no strings attached with no unbalanced play or cheating, pay a 1 time fee for the game and balanced play with no cheating, or get game free or buy game and pay a small monthly fee to play but everyone is balanced and no cheating. I dont like the game revenue concept of the person with the deepest pockets to pay out being the most powerful in the game and that is what most of the Pay-to-Win games are! You get a few thousand people paying and you have a army of Pay-to-Win players ready to mow down the Free-To-Play players. So why play a game like this to be a target for a Pay-to-Win player. Playing the game as Free-to-Play is stupid because your just a willing to be killed duck and feeding game design making it successful so a paying player can have the fun of killing a human target vs an AI player. Those free to play are being used many without them knowing they are being used as just easy targets against unfair unbalanced opponents. The small reward system in the free to play might hold the interest of the free to play players, throw some feed for the ducks and they will stick around for the paying HUNTERS to blow them away!

I have gotten into games like Lord of the Rings, Aion, and others that were Pay-to-Win and so for example to have a mount and special gear you had to buy them with real money so those who payed were having fun killing others who didnt pay that were same level or even higher level than the person who Payed-to Win and the gear stats are so much stronger in the person who payed for gear and so they are almost Godlike against free players and only challenged by other Pay-to-Win players.

Solve : older games on newer machines?

Answer»

Greetings!

I enjoy an odd variety of games ranging from different years. Issue being that some games where not programmed for todays operating systems. I recently updated one of my Towers to windows 10 and have no issues with current software but older software has issues. Specifically some games.
Currently ive acquired a new system thats running windows 7 Pro (i dont want to loose the license by upgrading to 10).
Anyways its a peppy little machine so horsepower for these games is not an issue: its a Dell Percision T5400 that has 2 Xeon E5450 CPU's, currently only 4GB of FB-Dimm DDR2 RAm, a AMD HD 5770 1GB and for hard drives 80GB boot plus 160Gb slave.
The games im trying to run are GTA VC, London Racers: destruction madness, NFS underground, and 18 WHeels of steel american long haul.
The issues im having for the most part is white boxes appearing on menu bars and pause menu's while in the game. A different issue in GTA vice city where the mouse doesnt respond and the colours are stuck at 16bit and resolution at minimum without the option of changing them. ANy suggestions? im about to try XP mode in comparability options. Here are impossibilities.

I SECOND that... additionally you can get a good Pentium D or Core 2 Duo system running Windows 7 for under $100 to run older games. If you have older 16 bit games you will want an OS such as Windows XP 32-bit or older.

I have some games that I love to play that just have issues with modern hardware. Everything from games intended for a single core processor that acts up on a multi-core CPU requiring me to set core affinity as a work around on a dual or quadcore newer system such as Unreal Tournament 99 to Diablo 1 and Atomic Bomberman having issues requiring a bug fix to work on Windows 7 and not look like an acid trip.

I have a Pentium 4 computer that was created in 2002 running Windows XP on 1GB RAM with an old GeForce 4 MX440 64MB Video Card for older games that dont play well on modern hardware and OS.

If you have some really old games like I do intended for a 8088 4.77Mhz CPU you can run into a game that plays way to fast because these were built around execution rate of a 4.77Mhz clock and a modern 4000Mhz system would run it that many times faster. I ran into this issue back in the day with my Pentium 75Mhz with games unable to be played unless I ran another program to bog the CPU down to get the games execution rate to slow, but it wasnt perfect. I ended up finding a 286 12Mhz system and that system ran it slightly faster but ok when a 8088 wasnt available.

The 286 I used to own had a Turbo button, when enabled the CPU rat at 4.77Mhz, presumably specifically for this sort of purpose.

Speaking of old PC systems... I rather wish I had tried harder to keep many of my older systems. I discarded them thinking they were worthless since I got sick of having tons of old PCs and boxes of ancient ISA and AGP cards lying around.

Seems they hold their value- that is the model I had, though mine had a IDE HDD/Controller (ST-225 was ESDI as I recall) and a 5-1/4" diskette drive as well as a 3-1/2" drive. (I still have the former).

It is interesting how the prices on ebay/craigslist/etc for systems older then around P4 have skyrocketed massively. my suspicion is that it is a speculators bubble, with people buying up 5150's and old PCs up through Pentium II class systems expecting to be able to sell them at a higher price in a few years. Interesting... I must have tossed away about 40 computers from 8088's thru Pentium 2's, and gave away Pentium III systems to a friend who needed extra systems for Diablo 2 and UT99 lan partys.

The 286 I had was an early 286 that didnt have the turbo button. I think the 286's that came with turbo switched between 12 and 16Mhz. My 286 was pre AT it was an XT 5162 which came with 640k RAM and had a dip switch bios just like the 8088's so no user friendly BIOS. Hard drive configuration was a pain since the parameters of the drive had to be configured with the controller which was a card. It wasnt IDE it was the older one that skips my mind the specification with the 2 ribbon connectors + power. I ended up finding a 16 bit ISA card that was a 4MB Memory expansion card that I plugged into the 16-bit ISA slot and this allowed me to run Windows 3.1 on it. I also had originally a CGA card in it for video and got a Trident 1MB ISA 8-bit VGA card from a old 386 and good VGA monitor and then was able to play Wolfenstein 3D on it and original Doom 1 & 2, and Commander Keen, and others as well as many many hours playing Leisure Suit Larry... hehe The hard drive the 286 had was a 40MB that took up the entire 5 1/4 bay. Windows 3.1 took up about 25% of the hard drive, but back then 30MB free was more than most needed with games that either ran direct from floppy drive or were very small like 300kb games or smaller etc. For modem I had a 1200 baud, but those with money had 14.4k at the time. Had it on Prodigy for about a year pre modern internet online service.Quote from: DaveLembke on February 06, 2016, 01:37:25 PM

Ive considered it, and it looks like ive no choice to go back to this consideration. I have a few P4 boards lying around and a nice C2D intel board. Issue is all these machines have CPU fans that are loud and obnoxious. I actually have a MX440 lying around somewhere. I know its the Asus edition. As for your last comment i do have an older IBm and DOS box that i play all my old games such as doom on. but i guess i gotta build me a nice P4. Quote
I have a few P4 boards lying around and a nice C2D intel board. Issue is all these machines have CPU fans that are loud and obnoxious.

Only fans I have found to be too loud are the HP SFF systems with the squirrel cage air ram that spin up and sound like a jet engine. But this only seems to occur on the 2.8Ghz and faster Pentium 4's that have the Hyperthreading for some reason and higher TDP. The 2.6Ghz HP SFF systems the company I worked for had were quite quiet.

If you have a normal socket 478 or 775 heatsink for your Pentium 4 and the Pentium 4 is adequately cooled it shouldnt be very loud. The only fans that were loud as far as these heatsinks go are the fans that are dying and start to groan and the case resonates and AMPLIFIES the sound or you have a high end gaming heatsink with heatpipes and its like a server heatsink with massive airflow and high RPMs intended for a hot blooded overclocked CPU etc.

Here is my list of systems I have gotten for free and have in dry storage:
Quote
Pentium 4 1.7Ghz 768MB PC-133Mhz RAM 40GB HDD
Pentium 4 2.0Ghz 1GB DDR 266Mhz RAM 60GB HDD
Pentium 4 2.4Ghz 1GB DDR 266Mhz RAM 80GB HDD
Pentium 4 2.66Ghz 1GB DDR 333Mhz RAM 80GB HDD
Pentium 4 2.8Ghz HT 1GB DDR 400Mhz RAM 160GB HDD Foxconn motherboard has 8x AGP slot available for video card but the motherboard has 1 swollen capacitor in the integrated sound circuit and a darkened area around a VRM that ran hot near the AGP slot "so I dont trust it".
Pentium 4 3.0Ghz HT 1GB DDR 400Mhz RAM 120GB HDD unfortunately no AGP or PCIE slot and PCI video card is limited its an eMachine. I have a Geforce 2 64MB PCI video card in it, but its a sad motherboard crippled by design to not have an AGP slot.

Celeron D 335 2.8Ghz 1GB DDR 400Mhz RAM 160GB HDD AGP 8x Geforce 6200 XFX brand

Athlon 64 3200+ 2.0Ghz 1GB DDR 400Mhz RAM No Hard Drive Gigabyte Gaming Motherboard supports SLI but only have a single Geforce 7600GT in single slot.

Athlon 64 x2 4400+ 2.2Ghz 1GB DDR 400Mhz RAM dual Geforce 6800GT video cards SLI No Hard Drive

My DAUGHTERS Core 2 Duo E4500 system is getting rebuilt and I gave her the Celeron D 335 2.8Ghz to use. It plays Minecraft fine with Geforce 6200 XFX video card with 256MB VRAM AGP 8x. Since she likes that computer and isnt complaining about performance, it is actually quite snappy performance for a Celeron D with Windows XP SP3, she might keep that system for a bit. She also likes to program with Scratch on it so she brings programs between school and home that she does in the MIT Scratch program.

As people toss out their old computers I generally get them and scrub their drives clean or give them the drive to take and destroy in which i end up with a system without a hard drive until I add one.
How ironic. I do have a HP sff 533 board with the 2.8 but ive changed the heat sink since i had it in a regular case. I also have a p4p-800-mx and a Se board. All these have the HT p4's. i Discarded all the slower model P4 machines i had.

Solve : Skyrim Chrash?

Answer»

I can't seem too run Skyrim for some reason though, I have newer hardware and surpass the requirements for the game. I just put in a Nvidia Geforce 950, which, plays the game with ultra video. I tried even reinstalling it with still the same problem.

Windows 7 86X, Nvidia Geforce 950, ASUS M5A97 PLUS AM3+ AMD 970/SB950, Kingston ValueRAM 8GB 240-Pin DDR3, AMD FX-4350 Vishera Quad-Core 4.2 GHz Socket AM3+Are you running Windows 7 x86 or x64.... you state you have 8GB RAM. If your running x86 then its the 32 bit which is limited to only using 3GB of the 8GB. Maybe this is a typo.

I'd suggest running memtest86 on the system to make sure that your RAM is healthy. I have had some problems in the past with the kingston value ram. I had a 1GB stick that booted system fine and system ran fine until playing world of warcraft in which the game would crash hard with a memory dump. Sometimes I would get the memory crash event detected by the game client and other times I would get a BSOD kernel dump. I ran memtest86 and it showed that the stick had an issue with a memory address in the 724mb RANGE, so with Windows XP at the time only using about 300MB of RAM and rest of it free, WoW was touching on dangerous memory address. Memtest86 showed that the address should have read back 0101010101010101 and instead it was reading back 010101110101110111. I create a RMA ticket and sent the stick back and they sent me a new stick within about a week and the replacement RAM worked with no troubles.Quote from: DaveLembke on January 29, 2016, 09:15:20 AM

I couldn't run that but, I ran memtest and came back with no known errors after letting it run. That is what I have in the system and is running 86X.

Well your system is then being choked down to only 3GB RAM then, so it is probably making gaming poor. Hard drive light might show lots of activity with paging to make up for the lack of addressable memory by OS. It would be way better if you could get 64-bit OS installed to make full USE of your 8GB vs only 3GB of 8GB wasting 5GB of memory that cant be addressed.

Additionally the Skyrim is this through Steam in which its launched through steam service or is this a legally purchased install ( digital download purchased copy or DVD install? If its one that has had a key crack and is illegal, then there is no way around stability issues with the game.
I think that I have coppies of 64X Windows 7, won't that mean that I wouldn't be able too run or use alot of my hardware/programs then? I have a hard copy but, when I launch it goes through Steam64 bit Windows 7 works with no problems that I am aware of for about 99% of software out there that is 32 bit. The only drawback to going to 64-bit Windows 7 would be if you require support for older 16-bit programs as for Windows 7 64-bit doesnt work with 16-bit programs.

I'd start fixing this problem by first upgrading to Windows 7 64-bit if available to you, then install clean games to system and this way your using your full systems capability with all 8GB of RAM. Be sure to backup any important data to a external drive or flash drive before wiping it clean and clean build for Windows 7 64-bit.

I upgraded to Windows 7 64-bit about 5 years ago and I have some older games that are 16-bit that wont run on it, but I have a removable drive bay on my system and so i have choice to run it off of the 64-bit Windows 7 build drive or Windows XP 32-bit. The Windows XP SP3 works perfect for older 16 bit programs and games. If you didnt want to have removable hard drive you could also always have a dual boot system with 2 versions of Windows installed to same drive and at boot able to make choice between 32 and 64 bit OS with 64 bit set as default.I was FINALLY, able too run mem86, it ran about 11 passes and came up with no error's.

I am not running ANYTHING 16 bit, that I know of :/

The only dual boot I have on here is 10 and 7Quote

Assuming 7 is where the crashing is, have you tried skyrim on 10 and does it behave on 10? Also is this 32 or 64 bit version of 10?Windows 10, is it own seperate OS

I can't seem too upgrade, it too the 64X OS. Says that the 86X can't be upgraded, obtain a 32 bit version of the disk.Unfortunately you can't directly upgrade 32bit Windows to 64bit, you need to do a clean install.I was able too get a copy of Win 7 64x installed, other then a few drivers which, I had too find different versions of seems too work without any problems. I think that it was not able too access, alot of the memory Quote
I think that it was not able too access, alot of the memory

Yes... that was my thoughts on the issue when i took notice to that detail of x86 and 8GB RAM... You were not making full use of your total RAM count until now and any computing you ran prior had 5GB wasted unable to be addressed. 3GB RAM is a little too tight for Skyrim and OS to be happy. I play Skyrim on a 64-bit system with Windows 7 64-bit and just about all my RAM of the 4GB is used up when playing. I'd say 4GB should be the bare minimum for Skyrim even though 2GB is the ORIGINAL minimum. Maybe on Windows XP 2GB might be an ok minimum for it, but Windows 7 runs best on 2GB or greater RAM alone with 32-bit Windows 7 2GB or more best and Windows 7 64 bit on 3GB or more for best performance.

I read in NEWSPAPER yesterday this article linked below. The newspaper made it sound like all yahoo games were getting canned. This info here doesnt suggest all, but that there will be removal of games.

Looking at Yahoo I no longer see the Chinese Checkers that I use to play with my cousin. Its been a couple years since I played it but its missing. Maybe Facebook is WINNING out the PLAYER base. I suppose I can CHECK facebook to see if they have chinese checkers.

Back in the day, late 1990s with dial-up Yahoo games use to be a hot spot for me and friends to play poker, chinese checkers, and other games.

There are MANY different levels of Intel HD graphics older and newerIts a Lenovo B50-30

I believe its Intel HD Graphics 4000Are there any specific game types that interest you and do you have a steam account yet?

I get all sorts of games cheap that most can run on your graphics ABILITY of that laptop through humble bundle. A portion of the money goes to game dev and rest to charity. One example was GETTING 8 games for just $1.00 USD. 2 of the games are fun and the others I gave as gifts to friends by CLICKING to create a GIFT key to give away. Here are popular games

Solve : port forwarding Battlefield 4 on a 3G modem Huawei e8258ws-2??

Answer»

Hi all,

I am abit confused and a noob on how to "correctly" port forward battlefield 4 on the Huawei e8258ws and I cannot seem to do it right.

In this picture below you can see how it looks inside the router, and I am confused on choosing virtual server or special applications. Also, how do I go about filling up the boxes with the right numbers?

Can anyone help, please?

[attachment deleted by admin to conserve space]https://help.ea.com/article/online-ports-for-battlefield-4/

Should be able to just configure according to this and get it working.

Note: I was able to google search but unable to check out the site through my internet connection, but all INFO should be there on which ports and what to configure. Thanks DaveLembke, I had managed to get to that web page to get the port numbers earlier, however, I did not know which options should I choose when putting the number in - is it virtual server or special application? and maybe you could provide a little example on how to fill them up.
I have always used static port forwarding. This requires the computer or device on network using this port forward to remain at a fixed static IP address.

The website has the list of UDP and TCP ports. I'd go with static and set this computer or game console to a static IP address. You will need an entry for each port added. Once configured those ports will allow traffic through the internet to that computer or game console specifically allowing communications on those ports. As long as ISP doesnt block specific ports it should work.

Not familiar with that routers interface, but it looks like you go with virtual configuration for static configuration.

You need to enter the info and click add or click add in order to enter the info, then click apply each time to save each line maybe in which the router might refresh or it might be ready for the next port right away. As you add them they will start to list below. In the example I gave port 443 TCP would have been entered first and thats why its listed below. Port 80 is then entered and needs to then be applied to add it to the list. Order of ports entered doesnt matter, but its best to go with ascending to make it easier to look at when troubleshooting with lowest port listed first and highest port last. The common port selection might just be a drop down for common ports like port 80 and 443 etc, not sure what this drop down will give you but a selection here might automatically populate the LAN and WAN port fields. In the list of ports entered I see a Modification column but not sure what populates here so I added ------ as the unknown. The name field you can name anything you like such as BF4. The static IP address entered is 192.168.1.14 this is the IP that the computer or console will be always at. If you dont set the IP to static and its working on dynamic, if the lease is lost for that IP then port forwarding will break as for if the computer or console goes to a different IP address then whatever device gets 192.168.1.14 will be getting that port forward improperly, this can be a security issue if a system that is not properly secured wanders into a port forward. Port forwarding is basically allowing communications through routers firewall to a specific system or device. The system that is connected to the port forwarding is exposed on the DMZ to port probing and hackers targeting specific ports. Some ISP's block port 443 commonly used for FTP.

[attachment deleted by admin to conserve space]It is a terrific answer from you DaveLembke and am grateful for it as it is setting me on the right track and clearing some confusions.

However, I still have few questions regarding the issue:

1- I believe the IP the 3G router has given me is 192.168.1.185 as I have seen under Connected devices in the router config. Is this the Static Ip address I have for this computer, because if I went to a website such as canyouseeme, the ip address is different and starts with something like 2.68...etc.

2- The ports number WAN and LAN should be filled with the same number (i.e. in the BF4 port list, there is a 14000-14016 for example, should I fill 14000 in the LAN port and 14016 in the WAN port as some sort of range? or they should be the same in each instance as I did in the screen shot.

Btw, I am unable to add more than 8 ports to the router. I think it is a hardware limitation. Would I be fine with half 4 TCP and 4 UDP ports only?

Regards

[attachment deleted by admin to conserve space]It limiting you to 8 ports... hmmm... Id get a different router that allowed for more. As for the only way to get around this 8 port limitation would be to open it wide open with a port range and create a security risk of ports not necessary to to be open for targeted computer at that IP address. The dynamic port forwarding from the looks of it is the only one that allows for ranges to be set. Ive never gone dynamic with any of my routers as for i feel more secure with static values of strict permission. Dynamic to me is too lax of strictness. It will allow looser security. You could get it working, but at a cost of lesser security to systems within your network.

One way to force the computer to always be at a specific IP would be to set the IP address on it statically to say 192.168.1.251. Then alter your DHCP setting for your router to only offer 192.168.1.2 through 192.168.1.250 as part of the DHCP IP pool, and this way no dynamically IP given device will ever be the same IP as this system at 192.168.1.251 as well as yoru computer will even work without the need of DHCP. To do this you go into the network settings for the network adapter and select Use the Following IP Address and then enter 192.168.1.251, then your subnet mask the same as the subnet mask you had when you were connected to router through DHCP given IP address, and use same gateway as that of DHCP issued addresses which is usually 192.168.1.1. You then will want to also set up the DNS with static values as well. Before going in and messing with values you can write down the info from running cmd at start run and the enter IPCONFIG/ALL and press the enter key. You will see an IPv4 address, subnet, gateway, and DNS IP addresses. Write these down. Then go into the adapter properties for the NIC and specify the static information where you will be entering everything you wrote down the same in appropriate fields except for that your IP Address you want to be 192.168.1.251

Remember you need to go in and change the DHCP range to end at x.x.x.250 or else another device could be given x.x.x.251 and have duplicate IP conflict.

There is the local IP address which is 192.168.1.251 and if you go online to see what your IP address is, you will see it as the IP Address that is issued to you by your ISP. This IP Address is the address your modem is connected as, Your router connects to the modem and acts as a gateway to allow your own IP addresses which are in the 192.168.1.2 thru 192.168.1.254 range until the DHCP range is properly ADJUSTED. This is why you see the 2 different IP Addresses. When connecting elsewhere to your computer that has the port forwarding you would be connecting via the IP Address that the ISP gave you, so if your address was 68.103.74.128 and you wanted to connect on port 443 for a file transfer it would look like 68.103.74.128:443 where the colon specifies that the following value is the port to pass the communications over vs standard port 80. Traffic would come into your modem as 68.103.74.128:443 and pass this to the router. The routers firewall will see traffic for port 443 and with the port forward rule would then direct the traffic to 192.168.1.251:443 and to the outside world they dont know your internal address scheme unless there is a script that scans the system that its connected to and reports back the local LAN IP address. If your IP Address issued by ISP is 68.103.74.128 then that is what hackers and others see. and whatever ports or port ranges are added to the rules, those are all the ports that a port probing would detect at your IP address of 68.103.74.128 if your ISP issued IP address that the modem was connected to is that IP address.

I dont want to steer you wrong with dynamic configuration, so maybe someone else here who uses the dynamic setup would tell you the most secure way to carry out this since your limited to just 8 ports. I use DD-WRT on my D-Link router and I havent found a limit yet and I have all sorts of ports open or on hold just needing me to select to activate them for VoIP phone, FTP, and other purposes.

Is getting a better router with better custom configuration options a choice or you have to get by with this specific router only?

EDIT: You might be able to get by more securely with this router keeping the static entries for specific ports and adding the ranged ones in the dynamic option at bottom. This might give you ability to go beyond 8 and maybe 8 static and 8 dynamic ports or ranges for 16 port rules. I have to read thoroughly through your post to get a complete idea but I just wanted to mention that I am the only one connected to this router, I am in a hostel and using a 3G modem as the hotel's network isn't good enough for gaming. I connect to the hotel's network when I am not gaming. Would this make things easier at setting the static IP address for my laptop? With no other devices on the router there is no competition which means you get maximum bandwidth. Setting IP static would be important so that the rule always applies to your laptop vs turning laptop off and turning it back on and getting a different IP address which then breaks the static port forwarding if you leave the network configuration dynamic could occur.I have turned off the laptop and back on and the IP given to my laptop remained the same 192.168.1.185, I do not remember seeing the laptop on other days with another IP address. Is it still necessary then to change the IPV4 settings in the adapter to 192.168.1.185 ? The DHCP server settings has a range from 192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.200 and the lease time is set to 86400, if I turned that DHCP server off, would I get better bandwidth for my laptop? Also, if I turned it off, does this mean I will lose the ability to connect any other device to the 3G router? You have been a great help DaveLembke .

I have read through your description and in layman words I could summarize what you have thankfully explained by saying that my 3G router has its own IP address(e.g.68.103.74.128) assigned by the ISP and the router in turn spreads out IP addresses across connected devices from a range that can be configured in the router, the DHCP setting (e.g. 192.168.1.185). The port forwarding works in a way that when information is sent through the port(e.g.80) to the IP set to my router (68.103.74.128), the router could in turn send that information through somewhat "better" if I assigned a port ONLY to the IP address the router has given to my laptop. So, in other words, ports acts as a medium that delivers data better between two different IP addresses.

To answer your question about my access to a better router, sadly I must say no. I have been looking for a good 4G modem replacement that has port forwarding but I have not been able to find one yet. Using other kinds of router currently is not possible for me as I am staying in a hostel.

I could do as you said about setting the "rangey" battlefield 4 ports to the virtual dynamic server to overcome the 8 ports limitation with the 3G router, but will it affect security?
One more thing, as you can see the in first picture, there are four options to fill for the dynamic port forwarding. Should I use the same port number (e.g.20000) for " Trigger Port Start" and "Open Port Start", and similarly use (20100) for " Trigger Port End" and "Open Port End"?Quote

Static on laptop would ensure that it always stays the same. If you turn off DHCP then only other devices that are set up with static IP, subnet, gateway, and dns would work on network. Devices looking for a DHCP lease simply wouldnt get a lease and so they wouldnt communicate. With your DHCP server settings in the router set for.100 to .200 you can essentially pick any IP addresses between .2 and .99 and .201 and .254 for your static IP of laptop. I wouldnt suggest shutting off DHCP as for you have concerns of getting other devices to connect to it. Bandwidth on laptop is whatever your getting through the router. If you had other devices on this connection it would slow it some when they are ACTIVE and using the same network connection out to the internet. But with laptop only connected to it, you then have maximum bandwidth with no bandwidth competition with others. However with 3G connection as your internet connection, the signal strength with the tower will affect bandwidth. The STRONGER the signal the better the speed, the weaker the signal the more lag due to resending of packets and lower sync rate of say 1X vs 3X etc for 3G wireless connection to ISP.

The more ports open the more prone you are to hackers poking around when they port probe and find your system. They then will try a number of ways to use these open ports to gain remote access passing attempted overflow conditions and more to gain control. The dynamic configuration you will have to just try out to see if that would fix this I havent messed with dynamic forwarding and trigger ports. Everything I have done is in static config and I dont want to steer you wrong.

Most secure is running the game with no port forwarding at all. Open Ports come with some risk. The more of them open the more prone you are to hackers trying to get in when they perform a probe sweeping looking for open ports. Then based on the port number they find open they will use tools targeting that detected port to try to get in, usually with hacks that target specific port numbers most common uses.
Does the router have an option to show it's external/WAN IP address, if so, is this the same as your public IP as shown from websites such as http://icanhazip.com/? Many (or pratically all here in the UK) mobile data providers do not give you your own public IP address, instead they share a single public IP address amongst multiple customers using a technique known as CG-NAT (Carrier Grade Network Address Translation). If they are doing this then unfortunately it is impossible to forward ports from the internet to your local machine. Thanks for sharing that info Cameron. I just learned something new about mobile data providers. My extent of mobile data providers is limited and this would definitely stop port forwarding in its tracks if he is getting a same IP shared with others vs his own IP. I believe the answer is yes, the router shows an external (WAN) IP address and it was similar to the icanhazip.com showed... I live in Sweden so I am not sure if use the CG-NAT feature you mentioned..

@DaveLembke

I tried setting my own static IPV4 settings in the wireless adapter preferences but I am not sure it did make a lot of difference. Also, it is annoying as I also connect to the hotel's network which would force me to change the settings back to Auto every time I stop gaming.

I have tried something today to test if port forwarding works and that is Tunngle, I set up a port rule for using the same IP the router has given me and face at the bottome right corner turned green. Does this mean it is working correctly?
I have also noticed when logging in a battlefield 4 server, I am not seeing the list of "connectivity issues icons" that appears on the right corner when you first log in to a server. That happened after setting up the port rules.

There is an option in the router config to enable Upnp as you can see in the picture, would it help if I enabled it?

One more thing, can you please check if I have set up the port forwarding rules correctly?

[attachment deleted by admin to conserve space]https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Plug_and_Play

Ive only seen this used for network printers that are shared etc.

Ports look to be correct comparing back and forth from what you have and listed.

Regarding the static IP, yes it would have to be switched between static and dynamic or else you cant connect to their wifi. If your happy with the chance that your IP address can change, you can set your computer to dynamic. If you get it working and some day all of a sudden its not working you then just need to confirm that you werent given a different IP address from DHCP.

Solve : Low FPS in DX games after HDD to SSD upgrade?

Answer»

Hi!

I have a very peculiar problem with all DirectX games (Dirt series, Grid 2, even old Need for Speed); Non-DirectX games are fine (such as Minecraft). The FPS are very low after I upgraded my storage HDD (the OS and some programs are on the SSD, games and some programs were on the HDD) to a SSD. I used Macrium Reflect to clone my storage DRIVE. Here is the step I went through and some info on my storage setup, to better understand the problem (and maybe the cause):

Previous storage setup
C: OS on 850 EVO 250gb (unchanged)
D: Storage on WD Black 1TB (was filled 1/4, is now replaced by a new SSD of 500gb)

  • Plug the new SSD (MX300 525GB) on the motherboard, turn on PC
  • Format the new SSD, give it drive letter F:
  • Clone the WD Black 1TB to the MX300 500GB (Macrium shrunk something to MAKE it fit on the 500GB)
  • Turn off PC, unplug WD Black
  • Turn on PC, change the drive letter of the new SSD from F: to D: (LIKE the now unplugged WD Black)
  • Reboot PC, test games. Loading times are improved, but FPS are very low (20-30 FPS most of games, Rocket League is at 5-10 FPS).

I think the mistake I made was to reboot the PC without the D: drive. Right after the cloning, I should have set the HDD to H: and the new SSD to D: right away, THEN unplug the HDD.

It looks like this mistake messed up DirectX. I tried re-installing it, but no luck. I updated the GPU drivers too. I ran UniGine Heaven Benchmark: OpenGL mode runs fine, DX mode doesn't (low FPS).

I don't know what to do, I searched on other forums with no results.
Thank you in advance!

P.-S.: I hope that my English is not too horribleEdit - The CPU usage goes higher than usual; up to 89% total CPU usage while Windows finishes booting up. Usually, it goes up to ~75% only in CPU intensive games. If you run DXDIAG and wait for it to load info, and then click on Display Tab top left of the DirectX Diagnostic window, does it show any problems in the Notes Section?

ALSO are all features enabled on this window similar to my pic shared?

Also in the Windows Event Logs is there any issues in there or does all look well?

[attachment deleted by admin to conserve space]DXDiag is all good and the event viewer doesn't show anything unusual.
I did a full reinstall of the graphic drivers, no luck.I went for the good ol' format and reinstall solution So clean install fixed it and it was an issue with the transfer from HDD to SSD then?It seems that it was an issue with DirectX. Booting the PC once with no D drive (the storage drive) messed up DirectX in some way... well, that is my guess. I don't know why nor how, since DirectX is installed on the main drive (C), which I did not touched. Interesting.... glad you got it fixed through clean install. And yes DirectX shouldnt have been affected on C:\Windows with the change to D:

Solve : Assistance Understanding Specifications of games compared to my hardware?

Answer» HELLO Everyone,

This is a hardware and Video game related question. I viewed it more of the gaming forum item so here it is.

I am working on recording content on some PC games. I have chosen MechWarrior Online and HurtWorld. I run a recording software on then windows 7 and now Windows 10 OS of Elegato HD.

In my attempts to record video of my gameplay, both games are heavily unplayable. Hurt world far more than MechWarrior even on its lowest settings. MechWarrior was not as poor but still clearly almost impossible to play. I noticed my Processor was running roughly 45-50% from just the Elegato alone. (Task Manager)

I viewed my Hardware specs and compared them to the minimum-recommended specs for both games and I even ran comparisons to the Procs and Video Cards and I was either right along with the recommended or better and always far better than the Minimum. Can anyone assist me in understanding why I was failing to run Hurt World at all and Barely Mech Warrior with what appears to be a very fair hardware setup?

My Setup is Wndows 7 - Elegato HD running in the background - I-7 -4700MQ CPU at 2.4ghz, 32GB of ram PC3-12800, GeForce GTX 770M - Minimal background services - Toshiba X70-A Laptop with 225gb SSD for OS Ops and a 1 TB HDD that is for EVERYTHING else.

Changes I have made but did not test against - Windows 10 Upgrade, UPDATED video related drivers (Was on update behind) Updated Windows (Appeared mostly defender and window 10 related) I updated Elegato (One update behind) I also tested with Elegato not running, only on Mech Warrior and the game was still pretty unreasonable. All settings moved to the lowest possible in the game during initial testing (Which almost made it worthless to play anyway visually speaking)

Min/Max settings for Mech Warrior Online -Vista/Win 7, Core 2 Duo E7300 @ 2.66/Core I5-3470 @3.20, 2GB/8GB Ram, NVIDIA 8800 GT/GeForce GTX 660

Min/Max Settings for HurtWorld - Win XP/Win 7, 2GHZ/3GHZ Proc, 4gb/8gb Ram, GeForce 460/GeForce 660

Pulled the INFO on the games from the sites on the games.

I apologize if I missed important information, I googled how to gather most of it.

My comparisons across the web made it appear my laptop should be able to keep up at Medium settings, possible Med-High and at bare minimum Low settings. I can't afford a new $3k computer to PROVIDE new content for my viewers right now but was hoping maybe someone can explain if I am misunderstanding hardware for these games or doing something wrong?

Thank you for your time. Ask anything and I will figure out how to get the info for you here.

Solve : What is the name of the game??

Answer»

Hello people!

I'm looking for this game for many many years!
I played it on pc maybe in 2004
It was a sort of 3d real time strategic fantasy rpg set in a colourful world.
The camera was on top of the map, you could move it with arrows and select with mouse.

You could hire, equip and grind heroes (warriors, wizards or archers)

In the wizard STORE there was a guy singing "Wands and quivers, quivers and wands, if you look for a chest..."
Monsters are colourful and a bit cartoon style.
Do you remember the name?

Thanks in advance xDLooks like I found your POST elsewhere in August looking for same game. I was hoping a Google search for Wands and quivers, quivers and wands, if you look for a chest would be the key to finding the game title. I dont recall this game or have ever played it and I own thousands of games. Maybe someone else will know.

And found you again here too... so unless someone knows the game title or has ever played it it looks like a google search might be a bust. Ah yeah, I'm obsessed by that game. I wrote on many sites, and I searched in many RTS lists with no success :O
The person who will find the name is without any doubt a HERO! If you KNEW even the creator of the game that might be a big help as for you can look up lists of release dates for games from them and find it by a timeline reference. I had to do that to find an old DOS based Apogee Software to find this game that I use to love playing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rise_of_the_TriadAh sound great, but unfortunately I don't remember the creator's name.
I remember it wasn't so hard and I finished it in less than 10 hours I think.
I remember it was a game I installed from a cd or dvd of a videogame magazine.
Graphics were great and full 3d, resolution was scalable so I think the release date should be from 2002 to 2006, genre: RTS fantasy, I think for pc only. HmmYattaaaa!!
I found it!
I searched on metacritic on RTS, there were I think all RTS games ever RELEASED. It was Medieval conquest!!!
Thank you for your support Cool Congrats!!!

Hopefully you can find the game now for sale somewhere to get BACK to playing it. I have bought lots of used games off of amazon pretty cheap without any issues.

That's cool!
Here's the song I was talking about

Solve : Specifications for Arma 3?

Answer»

What are the specifications needed to run ARMA 3 on each setting (if you could say for single player and multiplayer). I also realize that on servers it depends somewhat on how the actual SERVER RUNS. Thank you!

Maybe make a list ex:
Core
Graphics card
EtcIt's really hard to give definite numbers as there are so many variables and different people have different definitions of what would be classed as "running well". Your best bet is to look around on forums/videos to see the actual performance that different people get with different specs of SYSTEMS.

Solve : Gears of War: Judgement - mapname problem?

Answer»

Instead of having to open a SP map by going into the game then TYPING "open mapname" in the console, i'd like to have the game open a given map automatically. I have TRIED creating a new shortcut from the startup.exe and in the target line putting a space after it then tried many things including the following...
-open mapname
open mapname
"C:\path to map" -open mapname"
"C:\path to map" -open "C:\path to map"

Any every variation i could think of. Is there a way to do this. I mainly just play 4 of those old Kantham maps, so i want to have 4 different shortcuts that each open one of the 4 games. What do you get for error messages when trying to run that INSTRUCTION? Does it give any indication that your even close to the correct instruction. Are you sure the game supports this at the command line... as for many games load a service that is then used for interfacing with maps and CHEATS etc.

I am guessing the console interface is within the game itself and not a DOS SHELL environment and that is the problem.

Solve : Good co-op games??

Answer»

Hello everyone and happy new year,

Can you guys recommend good coop games for PC (preferably FPS), I have been playing call of duty: modern warfare 3 survival with a friend but am tired of all the random disconnections that ruin the experience. I have been checking Payday 2 but also read bad reviews on Steam so I am confused. What do you guys usually play?

My collection of FPS games with coop play as an option is ( Team Fortress 2 , Unreal Tournament 99 GOTY Edition, Counter Strike, and Alien Arena ). These games aren't the newest games out there, but are FUN.

Alien Arena is free and if you against other players your better off vs up against the AI's in the game as for the AI's cheat. If you hide around a door for someone or some alien to enter the room to shoot it in the back, it is unfair in its code that it sees in 360 degrees when entering a room so it turns your way instantly shooting at you. When up against real opponents they wouldnt turn right away to shoot at you like that unless your location was tipped off to them by a teammate. The gameplay against real people is hardcore, so you have to be fast! If your looking for an adrenalin rush and like games that are fast paced this is fast paced. I had better gameplay on the move vs waiting to snipe people.

My all time favorite FPS is Unreal Tournament ( UT99 is my most favorite but graphics are dated ) but there is map editors and people hosting LOTS of custom servers out there to connect to for death matches capture the flags and coop play. About 10 years ago I use to host my own server for OTHERS to connect to. I had a map called Massive Bedrooms as the main map that ran. It was great big rooms that placed you and other players the size of army men and it was like a Toy Story deathmatch. So many great places to hide and snipe as well as ambush people. Climb into Lego houses and run across a bed for extra armor plating or ammo that would spawn because you can run out of ammo if you shoot foolishly to empty your GUNS. Carry as many guns and ammo as you can acquire and select fast with mouse wheel to which ever weapon you wanted as well as right and left mouse clicks were primary and alternate fire so weapons had where you could hold right click and stack up a RPG to shoot 5 at the same time or left click and fire one at a time. If you kept target in sight long enough you could get a missile launcher to lock onto a person and they had to run in a way to avoid it following them to their death. Additionally there is one weapon in the game that is the mother of all weapons. Its just about a nuke. You can lunch it or alternately guide it with missile view. And it doesnt matter if your on top of the target or a foot ball field away from them and other people the shock wave is instant death to any one in the blast radius of it. All sorts of futuristic and some modern weaponry. My server died when the CPU fan seized up on a hot summer day in a home with no AC going and that was the end of serving it up. It was just a weak Pentium III 850Mhz computer with 256MB RAM running Windows XP and hosting the game on a 12GB HDD. The best thing about this game is that it was created around the Pentium III computer era and so you dont need a powerful computer to play it. The game can be obtained cheaply. I bought my copy for $10 on amazon. The game does have some harsh language and wanton to it. If you snipe a headshot the persons head blows off and bounces in a bloody mess. I think there is a checkbox to remove some of the gore, but I never used that checkbox. You can stack kill types such as multiple headshots you will hear a mortal combat type of voice that yells out GODLIKE etc. There are also things about the game that I cant discuss here as for I dont want to promote misuse of the game. I still occasionally play it against others and sometimes just bots in which I will set player count to 16 so its me against 15 bots, then raise the kills to like 50 and go out and have fun.

Team Fortress 2 I played a little bit of, but due to a computer at the time that only met the system requirements of the game when it came out, others with gaming rigs and fast frame rates had advantage over me with 15 to 20 fps and so I havent played that much. These days I have a system that would play it well, but dont have any desire to play it. I have thousands of games some of which have rarely been played and others have been played to death and I keep coming back for more gameplay with them.

Counterstrike I played online against others until people STARTED using cheats with scripts to instant targetlock, walk in the air and snipe you which one guy did, and jump spam scripts to avoid headshots. The cheaters KILLED CS for me. Not sure if they got better at keeping the cheaters out of CS, but I dont like playing games and getting killed with unfair advantage that cheaters have.

I've been playing a lot of Killing Floor 2 lately.
It's a huge improvement over the original in terms of polish, quality and variety, dev team are very active so hoping for some more improvements in the next few months - more maps, characters and weapons are on the way. It was in early access for quite some time and was officially released in November, the community is pretty great too.Warframe!I have been playing dying light recently and it is amazing. Other good coop games in my collection are; evolve, payday 2, left 4 dead 2. All these are good and I recommend giving them a try. (But my most fav game is dark souls although not fps like you want but it is still the best)To add to this... how about a game that is single player but ( self-coop when able to control time ), go back in time and replicate yourself so that your able to coop your character, take on mobs with replication or go overkill and take on a boss or other single monster/target from multiple angles.

Blades of Time is one of my favorites.

I like how the blades cut through the air and distort light and special moves similar to mortal combat to get pretty messy and spatter blood everywhere.

Also it has puzzles where you need to replicate yourself to open a door to let another instance of yourself to walk through before your replication of yourself vanishes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1Pdt2JbsDwYou can try Battlefield of course:) Crysis is good also, the second and the third part.

Solve : newer games and what the rules are?

Answer»

Greetings,

Ive never done or installed steam yet and was wondering how it all works.
Currently I want to get GTA V on DVD from Staples/Best Buy.

If I buy it there, can myself and my brother both play at the same time? I get it comes with serials but is it one users only or?

I remember GTA IV had a serial and allowed 5 uses of that serial. is the same thing with GTA V?The DVD version comes on 7 DVDs and includes only one activation code. You can install it to more than one system but it cannot be used on more than one PC at a time. The game is intended for one player per license. If the game is available through steam you might be able to get it at a cost lower than that of a physical store copy. I buy discounted games through Steam as well as Humble Bundle Store in which Humble bundle sells games at discount and part of the money goes to charity. Many of the Humble Bundle games give you keys to activate the game on steam. They also sell sometimes DRM Free games where you can download a physical copy as well as use the steam key to activate there as well. Situations with game offerings that are DRM Free and dont require online authentication to play the game, multiple copies could be running at the same time, although your not suppose to.

One game I was very happy to get a DRM Free version of is TORCHLIGHT II, as for when I travel I like to play games while flying and bored. Most airlines I am on dont have internet and so I have to play games that are offline only. Up to that point buying online or buying a physical copy of the game, the game required logging online to play and maintain an internet connection to play it. It was really nice that they made this available for offline play.

It will probably be a long time before GTA V is available DRM Free, as for there is a loss of control in how many multiples can be running it.I don't like the idea behind steam. I'm not getting a physical copy. so if they shut off the server I'm screwed. no installer no iso, image nothing. they install it and run it all. maybe if I got at least the installer file id be a little more happier.

Yes I know its to avoid piracy so don't throw that in my face. Steam has been around for over 15 years. skepticism was warranted at it's introduction but I think at this point- where game software is so large it has to either be put on a Blu-Ray (which few people have in their PC) or several DVDs, it just makes more sense, particularly given it's proven track record of sticking around. If they just up and shut down and left everybody in a lurch watchdog groups would be all over them.

Interestingly, the Physical version suffers from much the same issue anyway; it connects to an online server to check for activation status and if you aren't connected or say the server is shut down, you can't play it.
Quote

Yes I know its to avoid piracy so don't throw that in my face.

Didnt mean to upset you with the reasoning behind why... the dont throw that in your face, nothing thrown, just stating the facts and reasoning.

Steam has been around for years and is VERY successful. I have about $1000 in games purchased through or handled through them with 119 titles in my library with them. Most expensive game costing $30 and least expensive costing $1.

I dont see steam going out anytime soon. Additionally they have where game progress is saved with them for games that have save states so if you play a game between multiple systems it will sync with their server and you can pick up where you left off with a different computer. I love this feature because in the past a system crashing sometimes meant LOST game states. With them I can uninstall a game and reinstall it and pick up where I left off with certain titles.it's like putting money in a bank... you don't have the phisical copy, and if the bank fails, you're left with... nothing. But seriously, what are the odds of a bank failing? On this analogy the only flaw in it is that here in the USA the money is protected by the FDIC if a federal bank. Thinking that maybe only a credit union that fails might be a partial or total loss. Partial loss since the way that people would be compensated for their losses would be through liquidation of capital assets and so people might see a PERCENTAGE of their money back based on the sale of capital property that the credit union owned before imploding on itself.

There is a website to see if your bank is listed as protected to $250,000 https://www5.fdic.gov/drrip/afi/index.asp

I belong to a credit union for example that is not insured by the FDIC and keep just a small amount of money ( $25 USD ) in there for the loan benefits they have. To get LOANS at 1 to 2% cheaper through them has its benefits and I dont see them failing so im not worried about my $25 i have in there.

The other thing is that its best not to have all your eggs in one basket. I for example have a special saving account with one bank just for paypal and online purchases with only the money in there that I am willing to risk if it ever got hacked etc. This way i dont get cleaned out. My brother got cleaned out by a hacker that got his paypal info about 10 years ago due to his system infected with a keylogger. He didnt know it until checks started bouncing and by that time his account was empty. He never saw his $900 ever again and had no cash reserve elsewhere to pull from. We all chipped in to help him pay rent etc.Good points Dave
Not sure if all of them can (or if it makes sense to) be applied to videogames though

Solve : While playing games my laptop overheat, hat do I do about it??

Answer»

Hi. I have a lenovo ideapad yoga 11s. While surfing the web it never gets hot only when I play LEAGUE of legends and especially pokemon tcg online itll get even hotter. I heard theres something that you can change in power options in processor power management but i dont understand that. Should I be worried that my laptop gets hot?Yes. Heat can SHORTEN the life of your laptop. Normally the laptop takes care of the problem. The fan is controller by a heat sensor. But if it really gets hot it will shut down. Has that ever happened?
What do you have under the laptop? It should be a smooth surface that allows air flow. You can get an external fan to help keep it cool, but that shod not be needed. You can just use a cheap desk fan to help cool the back of the laptop.
At Walmart you can get a little fan the runs off the USB.

From Walmart.com: Desk Decor Plastic Shell PC Desktop Cooling USB Mini Fan Pink DC5V 2.5W now just $11.34 on sale.
Does that answer your question?

I saw one of these fans you shared Geek at walmart, oddly it was in the automotive section hanging off of a teaser rack. I call them teaser racks because they are generally used to draw attention of children to a toy of some kind such as in cereal isles in which the parents intentionally avoid the toy isle and need to get cereal and the kids see the toy and have to have it and the parents are stuck dealing with a screaming child or spending $3.49 in which they end up buying something they didnt intend to.

A few years ago all sorts of stuff started showing up that was powered off of USB ports. Everything from Small Desk Lamps or Flexible keyboard Lights, to Coffee Cup Warmers. While I dont think its a great IDEA to use USB ports like outlets for power for certain off the wall accessories such as a coffee cup warmer, this fan as long as it is well filtered and doesnt pull too much power might be ok, however the fans I saw in walmart didnt look very impressive for airflow to be used for cooling a laptop.

The best cooler for a laptop is a cooling pad such as one of these. Im not suggesting to buy this specific one, just showing that this is the BETTER solution. Depending on dimensions of the laptop they might want a different larger model etc. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834953035&cm_re=laptop_cooling_pad-_-34-953-035-_-ProductQuote from: Geek-9pm on September 23, 2015, 06:16:40 PM

It has never shut down, does this mean everything is fine?. I downloaded Open Hardware Monitor, what should my temperature be at? i think when im playing games it gets to 60 ish or 70 ish celcius but it has never shut down, should i be worried until my laptop shuts down?It is doing good. Both AMD and Intel CPUs now have internal protection and that trips at a higher temp.

Room temperature is about 25 C. In side a laptop it might get to 40 C sometimes. But the CPU can hold one until about 90 C.

For more info, just search for CPU temperature.
Just like with a desktop it can collect dust that will prevent air form circulating properly.you should be worried if your laptop is overheating. There could be a couple of reasons for this.
When you use your computer make sure the pathway of the fan is not blocked in any way. Use your laptop on a flat surface. If that does not solve your overheating problem, Consider getting a cooling pad. Overheating can also occur if there is a lot dust in your laptop. Get it serviced or cleaned.
There might be some programs running in the background that you don't really need which may be the ones causing your laptop to overheat by eating up too much available memory. check your task manager and see which programs are doing this.

Solve : Windows 10 causing Fallout 3 GOTYE to freeze/crash?

Answer»

So I recently Updated to Windows 10 and upon playing Fallout 3 GAME of the year edition VIA STEAM I experience so much freezing that the game almost becomes unplayable. Has anyone else experienced this, or know any fix? What display driver are you using?

What system specs do you have?... if a store bought system ( make/model and any upgrade info )

What do you have for a video card or is it INTEGRATED?

sorry I wasn't more specific but i found a solution. If anyone else is having this problem try this.

Find and open (BACKUP first!) the fallout.ini file in "My Documents\My Games\Fallout3"

Find

bUseThreadedAI=0

change it to

bUseThreadedAI=1

Add this line after it

iNumHWThreads=2

worked like a charm.Good to hear you found a solution and it seems rather simple at that given its just an initialization file change.

I have installed ds4 TOOL and ds4 xinput software it is connected to my pc and works in project 64 but when i TRY to play max payne for pc it does not work at all cant figure out what the problem is. Dualshock WILL work flawlessly with emulators. However it WONT work with all PC games - that i know for sure
it isnt optimized to run with most of games

your best bet is to wait for ds4 dev to release NEXT version if its still in work

Solve : Low FPS While Gaming (Certain Games Like League Of Legends)?

Answer»

Hello, guys!

I'm here requesting help for a FRIEND, (an actual friend) who has low fps while they're gaming.
It started yesterday during League of Legends. First and foremost the specs are as follows:

Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit SP1
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+, Manchester 90mm Technology
RAM: 2.00GB Dual-Channel DDR @ 198MHz (3-3-3-8)
Motherboard: ASUSTek Computer INC. Amberine M (Socket 939)
Graphics: HP w1707 ([emailprotected]), 512 MB NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT (XFX Pine Group)
STORAGE: 232 GB Seagate ST3250410AS ATA DEVICE (SATA)
Optical Drives: IDE-DVD DROM216 ATA Device, LITE-ON DVDRW SHw-160h6S ATA DEVICE
Audio: Realtek AC'97 Audio

The Situation
A few days ago the internet had been off. (Nothing to do with it just background information). When it returned. My friend installed
some windows updates. The updates crashed but the PC was still on. My friend restarted the computer and RECEIVED two blue screens. They tried to do a system restore but it could not be restored to an earlier point, (something prevented it).
Later on once my friend got into windows it said it was restored to a previous version.

Now the problem persists.
My friend had an average FPS in most games. However now it has been reduced to Five or a One and they can no longer receive windows updates. They're neither downloading nor installing the windows updates. Troubleshooting/Fixes did not help.

P.S The temperatures seem relatively cool (40 degrees Celsius) the highest temperatures were the CPU with 48 Degrees and Graphics with 61 Degrees.

Please, if you can. Offer some advice. All help is welcomed and appreciated.

Cryptic.New Clean Install of Windows 7 32-bit
Clean installation of nVidia driver

The system specs are weak, so LoL probably wont play the best on this hardware to begin with. Surprised that it actually was playing in a manner that was acceptable prior to windows update system corruption mess.

Might want to run crystaldiskinfo on the drive too to make sure its healthy. A dying drive can cause game lag and performance loss with data seek delays and virtual MEMORY PROBLEMS. This system with just 2GB RAM is pretty dependent on Virtual Memory for gaming.I shall check this out.

thank youThat is good information. Unfortunately, I know next to nothing about gaming. Hopefully, some will step in here.I don't remember how I fixed for a friend but it has to do with OPENGL, try updating your graphics drivers.

Solve : 2142 Battlefield 06' PC Gameplay offline single player mode attempt ??

Answer» BOUGHT this used mint condition with the product register code key on the back of manual & a near perfect install using my new/old 07'Hp desktop with XP service pack 2 or 3 . I went to EA games to start a new account even knowing this online game SERVER is no more I heard there was a zip Ffolkes 2142 battlefield unlock mod that needed to be unzip & extracted so the game could be playable in single mode offline which I installed the files to the 2142bf oem program folder as instructed. Also, this Ffolkes files suppose to bypass the Eagames online 2142bf game sign-in / password for normal start-up & play. The game does show the Flockes at sign in instead of Ea each time I try to start the game to play, but nothing more happens from that point on ? Earlier, when I tried to send the Ea games product key to register Ea said, the oem manual product key was invaid, but they gave myself an Ea account code to play this game ANYWAY. I have research this game to CHECK this games other owners views about issues on this & sad to hear that there are too many than I can count ! The few smarter 2142bf owners out there have had much success on getting this Eagame to function & play as in the past. I'm more than ready to join the ARCHIVE group of owners that can make this 2142bf game still play as it once did offline or online,if possible

Solve : Movie Maker non stop video?

Answer»

Hi,
I have create a VIDEO by Movie MAKER, CONVERT in MP4,
and I have embeded it on web,
the video turned once not continuely,
do someone tell me how to make it turn non stop ?
thanks a lot !To make the video look you would need to change this in the settings for the player you are using, it has nothing to do with Movie Maker.when I watch my video on my computer, the video is non stop turning,
but after having put on the web, it turns only once,
how do I set the player ?That's because the player on your computer must be set to LOOP the video whereas the web ONE you are using isn't. You will need to look into the documentation of the specific web player you are using to find out how to make it loop the video.I found my solution, very simple

Solve : Weird overlay on Phantom Pain?

Answer»

So, I've been playing the Phantom Pain and mostly EVERYTHING runs great on my rig, buttery smooth FRAMERATE at max settings. The occasional pop-up or loading hitch, but mostly great.

So, this is the forth day I've been playing, about 30 hours in, and when I load it up, I see this weird overlay over the shadows and/or black areas.

I'm ACTUALLY at a loss, I've never seen this before on a PC. It reminds me of the lines I would get on my old SNES back in the day.

I seems to come up randomly, so restarting often corrects it, but I'd like to never see it. Any ideas why this is showing up at all? I've attached a screenshot and my DxDiag.txt.

Thanks in advance for any help or even just speculation on what makes things like this happen

[attachment deleted by admin to conserve space]Looks like a Graphics card issue. Either starting to fail, overheating, or a DRIVER bug.

I don't KNOW what graphics options are available but if possible you can try disabling Ambient Occlusion as well.
