Solve : League Of Legends Crashing?

Answer»

Hello,

My game just seems to crash, USUALLY at the start , screen goes black , then I hear some buzzing in my headphones and finally , computer resets or I have to reset it. (Not in that particular order, sometimes it doesn't buzz, just black screen and everything frozen, or colored stripes on the screen followed by a freeze) . Anyone knows what could be causing this ? Computer specs : intel core i3 540 , 4 GB DD3 1333 MHz , radeon hd 5750 1 GB graphics . Latest video drivers are installed . It also happens in Starcraft 2 and some other games.

The first time I've got that error there was an error message on the screen saying : Not optimum mode selected, recommended mode is 1280x1024 60 hz. After that I've set my settings to that resolution and screen refresh rate (My monitor is samsung sync master 710n) but the crashes still occur.

I've tried running memtest, it found no errors, computer was scanned for viruses & malware, nothing found, I've tried using the driver sweeper and completely reinstalling the drivers, that didn't help either, video card and CPU temperatures are fine. Please help me find a solution for my problem.

Thanks
Smokei is online now Report Post      Edit/Delete MessageSounds like a heat problem. What are temperatures now and at time of crash? They never go higher than 45 degrees celsiusAnd your power supply rating, brand and age?I believe its 450W MS industrial, age is about 7 months.Hm, that is a bit on the low side for such a high-end machine. I'd test the machine with a 600W PSU.So, yesterday I played 3 lol games in a row with no crashes, later that day I went to play again, it crashed, I REBOOTED my pc, rejoined the game, it crashed again.

You think that more powerfull PSU would solve the problem? Quote from: Smokei on February 16, 2012, 02:47:56 PM

I think you NEED to make sure that it isn't the solution to your problem. Because if it is, you're burning up your hardware right now.You should check your hardware, because i am sure its heating problem.

Solve : Can my new laptop play Sims 3??

Answer»

I'm not sure if this is the right thread or not, but oh well...

Anyway, my grandfather recently bought a new laptop for me; it's a Lenovo G575, and I want to buy Sims 3. However, I'm not sure if its AMD Dual   Core   E-350 processor (1.6 Ghz) has the power to play the game on full settings. So, the question is, can my Lenovo play Sims 3?The Brazos platform is just about equal to the K8 platform (Desktop Athlon X2), so I'd say the CPU is good.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4023/the-brazos-performance-preview-amd-e350-benchmarked

The Mobility Radeon HD 6310 is a low-midrange GPU-won't handle 1080p videos and even moderately intensive games.
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html

http://www.thesims3.com/game/systemreq
System Requirements.
The Athlon XPs are on par with the Pentium 4, and the Semprons/Athlon X2s are 1 generation above the XPs, so the E-350 will be fine.
The Radeon HD 6310 will be able to run the game perfectly-if the Sims 3 supports the X300, which will simply be unable to run anything other than 480P videos, it will support the 6310.

In short, yes.go to www.canyourunit.com. Run the scan for Sims 3 and it will tell you if you can run the game or not.I was thinking of installing Sims 3 as well in my vista laptop but am not sure, co'z I'm considering too in changing from vista to windows 7. Any suggestion where it works better? I believe it would be on windows 7, need your confirmation though.  Quote from: sam_coles on September 22, 2011, 12:30:57 AM

A comparison between Windows XP, vista, and 7 gaming performance. Windows 7 gained the favor of the above review because it has optimized memory management, DX 10/11, and supports multi-GPU configs more effectively-XP was designed in 2000, which was a time when multi-GPU configs were for the extreme elite.

What are your system specs? The Sims 3 is not a demanding game and will run on any modern computer in the world. These are its requirements: http://www.thesims3.com/game/systemreq And yes I'd recommend upgrading to Windows 7 from Vista for the optimized user interface and added functionality. Software developers are starting to DROP support for XP because of its limitations. Quote from: ChelseaFrancis on September 22, 2011, 06:16:13 AM
And after that I bought high configuration Graphic card for my laptop and now it's fantastic for all game. I suggest you that a Windows 7 with Graphic card is a good choice for you.

There are laptops in which you can upgrade the graphics card? Wow... (does google search) apparently there are!  http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/External_Graphics_Card/XG_Station/

An external graphics card for laptops which makes use of an expresscard slot.

Are your graphics drivers installed properly? Try going to your manufacturer site and upgrading your drivers. Can you go to Start->Run->dxdiag and post a screenshot?Personally, I would recommend using a computer with just a *TAD* bit more processor you should at least try to install sims3 in your laptop and see what happens. i think yo can play it in your laptop.

Solve : need Movies not games?

Answer»

I am looking at buying several movies online ,but I would like the kind they can send me to download as I would rather they be on my pc not on dvd. Is there a place I can order them?http://www.blockbuster.com/download
http://www.hulu.com/movies
OR
Just enter the tile you want in a Google search.
Example: Enter 'princess bride' and find both reviews of the MOVIE and places where you can buy the DVD or buy the download.
Maybe this one is what your want.
http://www.eztakes.com/

But there are others. Like Amazon.

As for 'FREE' sites, I asked that QUESTION and never got a clear SIMPLE answer. The 'FREE' sites have some kind of thing you don't want to get into.
Thanks prodigy. I'm going to check those sites in a minute. I only saw on amazon that you could buy the dvd or vhs tape ,I'm looking for a download I can keep on my pc.
Oh yeah, those free sites dont have the movie I'm after..It is possible to convert a DVD movie to a common video format such as AVI, MP4, RMVB, WMV, etc. with
http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/
http://bitripper.com/
I have personally tried both of the above PROGRAMS. Some DVDs might have copy protection. If you want to convert a VHS tape to a common video format, you would probably need something like this:
http://www.altoedge.com/usbcapture/index.html
and possibly some special software. Thanks to you Geek-9pm for sharing LINKS with us. its really useful and also helpful us. from your link i have found some best movies.

Intel chipsets are worthless for GAMING. They just don't have the POWER that ATI/AMD and nVidia cards have. Not even close. Most 3D games won't play well (or at all) on an Intel chipset.

Microsoft has a whole list of cards that AoE3 won't run on, which includes 13 Intel chipsets. See if yours is in that list:

you can buy cheapest for your laptop but i think it will not suitable for you and also not give you good serve. so its only depends on you and your model. but i think you need not to buy new pc.
Pretty sure that game will actually run on that chipset...
Flogging a dead horse.I have a great idea for this problem so you will not have it again...

want to have a one fix to all, don't buy something before you know the minimum requirements. Also ask someone before you do and know what ask them. These three things might help you out a lot

Have you actually tried running the game?

Solve : Issue running Gothic 3 and Oblivion?

Answer»

Hi there, these are my PC specs:
Intel® HD Graphics (Core i3)
Operating System:    Windows 7 (6.1.7600) 64 bit
Default Language:    English (United States)
DirectX* Version:    11.0
Physical Memory:    3892 MB
Minimum Graphics Memory:   32 MB
Maximum Graphics Memory:   1696 MB
Graphics Memory in Use:    70 MB
Processor:    Intel64 Family 6 Model 37 Stepping 5
Processor Speed:    2394 MHz
RAM:                       4G
My issue, in depth, is that I am unable to run those two games on my computer by it being unresponsive as I run the exe or launcher. Once I double click it (Ran as administrator, also ran in all compatibility modes) my mouse loads momentarily with the blue circle for a few seconds, then it SIMPLY stops loading as if I never ran the application. This is the case for both games and probably more if I installed more to test them. The weird THING is, I played Oblivion before on this same PC and I had no issues as I do now. The game is updated properly and I can't help but think it is an issue with my computer and not the game. My driver is updated, otherwise I would be experiencing issues with other programs as well, which I'm not. If it isn't updated, then I can't update it because it is a customized Intel HD Graphics card (By the manufacturer, Samsung). I am DYING to play Gothic 3, as it has been a while since I played an RPG. Also, the issue seemed to have began when I attempted to download Gothic 3. I would appreciate an answer to this, I have scoured several FORUMS for an issue related to mine, but to no avail.

Solve : EA Games "Origin" Service - Want to manual start service vs auto start?

Answer»

Installed EA Games "Origin" service when installing Dragon Age II , which was an activation requirement. Walked over to my idling computer tonight after it was at desktop with nothing running and saw core activity on WINDOWS 7 and was curious as to why there was 75% CPU usage. Opened task manager and saw Origin service was using 63% and killed service bringing CPU back to 1%

Was going to set this service in services to manual since I don't trust it now that it was running something when idle which was unnecessary and suspicious, and can't locate it in the windows services list under services.msc  . Its not under EA or Origin or another name to easily identify. Anyone know what the service is CALLED in windows services for Origin Game Service, or an easier way to pin point its service name so i can make it a manual started service VS automatic?

Google search came up dry for me.  DAUpdaterSvc

https://help.ea.com/article/my-dragon-age-origins-dlc-is-unauthorized-or-not-there I finally found where its triggering to start. Went into MSconfig and found it as for its not in windows services view where I expected to find it since its an autostart process. Now to figure out how to make it manual start vs automatic. Looked for the Quote

DAUpdaterSvc
but none found. Below are pics of it found in MSconfig and the process name in Processes under Task Manager.

Wonder if I should remove the -AutoStart from the call and leave it there or delete it completely from MSconfig and then start it manually via a shortcut to Origin.exe

That's what I would do.

Thanks... the good thing is that the game works without the service running. So I will leave it installed but disabled for now. Looks like EA Games is trying to make their own Steam Client like service and they called it Origin. Removed it from startup in MSconfig.

Solve : Batman Arkham City DX11?

Answer»

Dear Computer Experts,
I have a Radeon HD 6670 which supports DX11. But it is not working on double-clicking the shortcut for Arkham City for DX11, the program simply stops working. Using the BmLauncher I have to go to Settings and turn off the DX11 FUNCTION. Also, during the installation, I only remember installing DX9, not DX11. Do I have to download any software or install something else for DX11? When Windows 7 says that Arkham City has stopped working it also notifies me by saying that they couldn't load the shader FILE. Why do these problems always happen with me? But I am able to play on DX9.Have you made sure you got DX11 installed?

https://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=17431

So the game does work under DX9 but not DX11, right? Is DX10 in there as well? Does that work?i have dx11 bcoz when i checked dxdiag it said my DirectX version was DirectX 11. Maybe I have to download a special patch for playing Arkham City. Can you tell me some other GAMES with DX11 support so that I can check tem out?raptor, the link led me to a download that had a audio file and a ppt presentation about dx11. dont i have to download software? first, pls forget the above post.

Sorry about the DX11 link, I haven't got a clue where to obtain anything later than DX9 it would seem... Microsoft refers me to their games for Windows live marketplace.

However, I think that if your DX11 is out of date, you can update it through Windows Update. Not to mention that Batman should have come with a suitable version of DX11. If you didn't install that, it might be on the CD.dear Raptor

Solve : Advice on Graphics Card?

Answer»

I recently had someone build me a computer, which was just supposed to be a nice stable work computer that might do some light gaming. Once i got it, i picked up The Old Republic and started playing. The game ran well enough, didn't look amazing, but i was enjoying it. However, one of the hardrives he installed kept crashing, and after multiple visits he finally built me an entirely new system. Only catch now is that the game no longer runs smoothly, and is INCREDIBLY laggy. I was planning to upgrade the graphics card anyway, but i just wondering what type of card i should GET. I don't need the end all be all, but i would like to be able to run most games smoothly. Doesn't necessarily need to be at max graphics though (i have a console for that)

here are the specs

Model:precision WORKSTATION 490
BIOS: Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS version 1.10 A08
Processor: Intel (R) Xeon(tm) CPU 3.00GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.0GHz

From what i can tell my currecnt driver is the NVIDIA QUADRO FX 3450/4000 SDI

As I'm sure you can tell, i know nothing about computers. so if this isn't the info you need, please let me know what you need and where i can find itStar Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, right? 1 or 2?

It should work with a card like that. What operating system are you running?
Any question marks or exclamanation marks in the device manager? (Right click my computer -> properties -> hardware -> device manager)

The guy you're talking of sounds pretty incapable, by the way. You don't "build" Dell computers because they come prefabricated.
You also shouldn't let him tell you that the "hard drive kept crashing" because if a hard drive "crashes" once, it's pretty much over...

He also picked a pretty odd machine that isn't really meant for gaming at all, it's meant for... well.. Dell can say it better than I can:

Quote

Looking for a high-end workstation that delivers groundbreaking performance and exceptional
processing power to space-constrained environments? Then look no further. Developed in
close collaboration with hardware and software partners, the next-generation Dell Precision
490 workstation combines a flexible, compact chassis and intelligent power management to
deliver an ideal solution for financial trading floors, performance clusters, render farms and
other crowded, power-sensitive environmen
Basically this is what I've got going. The guy works with my dad in the petrochemical plants outside my city (we're known as chemical valley, lucky us). The plants get an astronomical budget every year for computers and what not, and so every two years they replace their systems even though they are still in great shape. My dads friend is the technician in charge of maintaining them. When they get replaced he buys them super cheap from the plant, sets them up for personal use, and sells them. I misspoke when i said he "builds" them, because its not like he is building them from scratch. he does however set them up to be whatever his customer needs. So he might swap out the graphics card, or install wireless receivers or whatever. The hard drive wasn't crashing repeatedly (my poor use of technical jargon) but it was failing, and the computer was freezing/crashing. So he set me up with an entirely different system.

Anywho, the game in question is the MMORPG The Old Republic, not the RPGs from a few years back. Basically what I'm interested in LEARNING is what this system can handle, and what my options are that won't break the bank.Aaaah, that's an entirely different beast.

ATI/AMD Radeon HD 5850 1024MB seems to be a recommended videocard for this game. That means anything from that number and upwards made by ATI/AMD should in theory suffice. The higher your budget, the higher you can go.

The maximum supported wattage for your videocard slot (PCI-E 16x) is 150W according to Dell so that's important to keep in mind.
They also recommend a GeForce GTX 465 but that is a 200W videocard.

You meet the rest of the system specifications by a wide margin ALTHOUGH the game might not be optimised for your type of hardware because it's not really meant to be gamed on.OK, i just read the outside of the power supply, and the model number is N750p-00 which as i understand means it is a 750 watt power supply. can ANYONE confirm? Correct. Thanks for all your help! picked up a new card, and its running great! game runs well, and looks awesome. You can use Nividia GeForce 9600 GT 512MB vs GeForce GT 240 GDDR5. i think it will better for your pc.

Solve : Reccommend a game?

Answer» I don't have a LOT of spare time, but when I do I like something relatively uncomplicated. Graphics NEED not be good. I suppose what I'd really like is something like civilization I - highly addictive, being able to play half asleep, computer opponents only, and maybe turn-based. I don't want anything with a steep learning curve. It has to work on my 64BIT machine. Buy, free, or whatever. WILLING to pay if it fills the bill.

Thanks in advance for any help.

P.S. Don't steer me to emulators please. I've set up three of them for Civilization I, and they were all an unsatisfactory pains in the arse.
I reccomend rise of nations it's a good gamePerhaps any of the Heroes of Might and Magic series.

It's turn based, single or multiplayer, and relatively easy to learn.

And no matter what your system specs are, one of the series will likely run on your computer. The first one was released in 1995 and the latest (and sixth) one in 2011.

As to whether or not they'll work on a 64-bit system, I can't say for sure. The older ones might not, but their system requirements claims the 6th one will work on 32 or 64-bit systems.Realm of the Mad God is a really fun & addicting fantasy mmo kind of game that is free and can be played in browser. Why not play a newer Civilization game?  I've heard nothing but good things about Civ 5.I suggest you to try the following games.

Tom Clancy's EndWar
Black & White
Shogun: Total War
Archon: The Light and the Dark
Legacy Online
Empire Earth
Heroes of Might & Magic III: The Restoration of Erathia

Solve : Screen goes black when playing - "signal lost"?

Answer»

I'm putting this here since it's only happening when I'm playing games but I'm not sure if I'm in the right place for this.
When I'm playing graphic-heavy games my screen goes black after 6 min (I've timed it) and GIVES me the message "signal lost" (or maybe it's "no signal"?) and I have to reboot. Anyway, this has been going on for nearly a year. I haven't added anything except regular updates (windows update, drivers etc) and before this started I could play graphic-heavy games without any problems. I even took it back to the store and had it checked for any problems. I described what was wrong but when I got it back they said they found nothing except dust. I took it home to play and the same thing happened again. Nothing wrong, sure.
I've tried to keep it dust-free and cool, used a different screen, going back to previous drivers in case the NEW one was unstable or something, updated the drivers (and the games when possible) again, changed the in-game options to low or off but nothing seems to work. If I'm very lucky I can play the games for 30-120min instead of only 6min but I've no idea why and I can't get it to happen again with any regularity.
Ordinary games works without any problems. Examples are Broken Sword, Sherlock Holmes, Still Life, Darkness Within and various MMORPGs like Luvinia. Examples of graphic-heavy games no longer working: Two Worlds 1&2, Mass Effect and the Reckoning: Kingdom of Amalur.

I'm using a gaming-computer that's soon 3 years old. I'm not really sure what info you need to know or where I can find it. I've checked the temp with CPUID Hardware Monitor and the Core is 55C-63C and the fan's 65C-72C (if I'm reading it correctly). Is that high or READ wrong?

Windows Vista Home Premium, SP2, 32bit
Intel Core2Quad E8200
4GB RAM
NVidia Geforce 9800 GT
Realtek High Definition Audio
Avira Antivir Personal, Ad-Aware, SpywareBlaster72c is sort of hot. Is that the temperature at the time of the problem as well?

Make sure your videocard is firmly seated. It's the temp the CPUID says it's now but the fan is quiet and the casing is cool so I don't know if it's true or not. I haven't checked the temp when playing (either before or after, I just got the program) but I have tried to play at different times ie the first thing I did after starting the computer in the morning vs waiting several hours after starting it. If it went black because of overheating then shouldn't I have been able to play when the computer was recently turned on?
I haven't tested if the videocard is firmly seated yet, though I've thought about it. The thing is, the casing is sealed by the store/workshop. Probably so the warranty will still be valid. I can either check it myself and probably not find anything, or wait and let them check it for a fee. Again. Keep the warranty or keep the money... Quote

t. I haven't checked the temp when playing (either before or after, I just got the program) but I have tried to play at different times ie the first thing I did after starting the computer in the morning vs waiting several hours after starting it

Perhaps the fan is FAILING but hasn't failed completely, resulting in certain gaming sessions being O.K.

You need to check the temperatures at the time of a crash and before that. Report them.

Also, is there still warranty on the computer after 3 years? It's important that you can inspect it for blown capacitors and other signs of damage..I think it's overheating, as those temps are a bit high.

The first thing I would recommend is removing the CPU cooler/fan, clean the thermal paste off the heat sink and the processor, then reapply it. If you're using the stock Intel cooler that came with the CPU, you might also consider upgrading to a better cooler/fan.Hi Karinms,

Did you solve this problem?

I'm having the same issue on my sons PC and we've pretty much changed out everything excepts the SDD and HDD drives.....massively baffled!

The only thing I might think it could be is that he connects it through a 720p TV with a cistom res due to oversized display.

Anyway, I'd be grateful if you can tell me if you fixed it.

The only thing I might think it could be is that he connects it through a 720p TV with a cistom res due to oversized display.

Anyway, I'd be grateful if you can tell me if you fixed it.

Thanks

Solve : Lag during specific video games?

Answer»

Hi,
I use my Sager laptop to play games. It has Nvidia 540M graphics card.My operating system is Windows 7 64-bit.

When I play games like "Need For Speed:Hot Pursuit" and "Call of Duty:Black Ops"(single player, missions) I do not have any problem with lag at all.The gameplay is smooth.
When I play a first person shooter game called "Medal of Honor:Allied Assault" multiplayer against other people online, I get a terrible ping spikes.Whenever there are more than 20 people in server my computer starts lagging(up to 600ms),whenever there are fewer than 20 people my ping is fine (constant 60ms).

When I play the same Medal of Honor game in the same server on my desktop computer(Nvidia GTS 450), my ping is always low(50ms constant) so the problem is not my Comcast home internet or the game server that i connect to.
I tried CONNECTING my laptop wirelessly AND wired but I get a lag no matter what.

What do you think causes this problem on my laptop and how can I STOP getting lag whenever there are more than 20 people online ? I have the latest Nvidia drivers.

Thanks. So 19 people playing or less and no lag and 20+ and always lag and ONLY on the Laptop you see this? How much system Ram does laptop have, maybe the 20th person to keep track of x,y,z COORDINATES is at your laptops memory limit. Do you run desktop gadget on windows 7? I use CPU/Ram meter on mine with a timeline so that if I have weirdness I can hit windows key and look at timeline of Ram and CPU usage to see if it was at 100% etc. Most laptops these days share system Ram with video GPU needs, so you might be running at 100% and lag is your system then failing to stay in synch with the serverside clockwork of the game.

I know that my Toshiba Core 2 Duo 1.8Ghz and GeForce 7300 running XP on 1.5GB Ram to play World of Warcraft lags out when I get into populated areas with lots of people, yet my desktop tower computer a Athlon II x4 2.6GHz quadcore with ATI Radeon 5450 HD 1GB DDR3 Video Card, and 3GB DDR2 system Ram just about never lags out in cities that are crowded. My dualcore CPU on my laptop is at 100% and Ram is 90% consumed by the game, and the GeForce 7300 Mobile is breaking a sweat playing the WoW v5.0.5 on lowest video settings. The bandwidth meter in the game also climbs to around 250ms in cities and back to 30-40ms in lesser populated areas. I figure that this is being caused by the delay in my game client to maintain the sync with the server because my laptop is sort of trailing behind in communications SINCE the CPU is running full bore.

Some questions:
How much Ram?
What CPU?
Are you running a desktop gadget to monitor Ram and CPU usage so you can see if its hitting 90+% when running game with 20 people connected etc? ( use windows key to switch back to desktop and keep game running, you will see usage dive when doing this so you will want a timeline type gadget running or you wont see real figures of STATS while running )

Solve : Can anyone suggest a good gameing comp??

Answer»

Hi my old comp is dieing on me and i am saving up for a new gaming comp but i do not know what to get. i figured i will be able to save up 1,000 dollars for the comp and i want it to be a PC so i can still do school WORK on it (unless there is a way to convert word documents to what macs use) The biggest game i would play on it would be skyrem, but i would still be happy if it played minecraft lag free. Then i would prefer it to be a pre-made comp but i would be still fine with a comp you MAKE yourself. please help i am having a hard time TRYING to figure out what to get.  I would buy a system with a quad-core or better CPU that also has a PCIe 16 expansion slot available and a 350watt or greater power supply. Then pick up a video card for around $100 with at least 1GB dedicated Ram. If system comes from manufacturer with 4GB Ram, I would bring it up to 8GB. All of this can be done for less than $1000, probably in the neighborhood of $600 USD if you get say a Athlon II x4 Quadcore CPU Compaq tower for $459. 4GB DDR3 Ram upgrade for less than $50 and $100 video card. If you prefer Intel you can go with Core i5 or Core i7 CPU. I prefer AMD for best price/performance buy. The last Compaq tower I bought had a 350watt power supply. If your going to go with an insanely powerful video card you might need better than a 350watt, especially if it is not powerd off of the PCIe bus finger taps. If it requires the 12Volt power connections to power supply to video card, I'd upgrade power supply to at least 650watts ( around $50 ).

I am running Skyrim on a Athlon II x4 620 ( 2.6Ghz Quadcore ) with 3GB (DDR2) Ram on Windows 7 32-bit with ATI Radeon 5450HD with 1GB Ram without issues on normal video settings. Also mine craft no troubles with, and World of Warcraft I have graphics set high and am getting 30-60fps depending on whats going on. My video card I got for $30, but I would suggest a more powerful one closer to the $100 mark so that it can keep up with modern games. Mine at $30 COULD start to freeze frame with whatever game comes out next that demands more GPU power. I have already gotten my $30 out of it, so it was a good card to buy time and get something better later vs sinking money into a powerful card now and wishing a year from now that I got the next best video card for the same price!

Solve : can't play multiplayer?

Answer»

Im trying to find bowling games where you can invite FRIENDS to play but the only one I found was creme saver lanes. can someone help me? I checked out gamesgames.com and that was only try to beat high score..you can't play at the same time

matter of fact I can't find any good games to play with friends except on Omg POP
mini golf and card games (Besides tonk) would be my ALTERNATE choices.

this really confuses me. does no one like to play online with their friends anymore? or did everybody go to stupid xbox?Good evening JAJsangel and welcome to CH

A couple of things to be careful of "a lot of web sites" that offer free games will tell you in order to play the game "just click here to install the game" The problem is they tend to come with toolbars, malware, free scanners and they also may have a game application plus the kitchen sink

In my opinion I do not trust ANY tool bars there is always a catch or you end up with a browser issue afterwards, but that is me.

And yes a lot of people do game on line gaming but they do the xbox, wii and PS3.

If you have a since of humor there used to be a game called something like Christmas elf bowling etc. I remember seeing it a long time ago and it is funny (I think it is single player maybe it was multi-player) but I thought is was very funny  but if there are little ones in house I think some of the elf's showed part of there rear end there was nothing really graphic or Naughty.

I did take a look at the gamesgames site and they may have a tool bar and once you sign up for account some game options you have to buy pieces / upgrades etc and once that is set up if you have kids they can spend money on your account with out your permission

Just be careful some web sites are just polluted with bad stuff but someone else may give there opinion, myself when I do play one games it is games like Quake, doom, unreal, need for speed etc. Good luck and have a nice day, Mike

If you have any more QUESTIONS or if you find a good site or game please come back and tell US someone else may be interested. Mike   Was just thinking that facebook has lots of  games that are cooperative and competitive, so maybe they have a free bowling game there that doesnt require install and just runs on flash. This was Elf Bowling and there were at least 3 different releases, they had local multi-player but not online multi-player.
The company name was NStorm but I don't think they are around any more so getting a hold of these games is GOING to be difficult.

I suggest you  should try playing bowling games in gamezer.com. i am regular member in that community and here has lots of fun. at first you will create an account than you will can play with any players which you want.

Solve : Game Cheat Memory Hack Question?

Answer»

I have been using game cheats for years, most of which were easter egged in there intentionally by the programmer such as (showmethemoney - 'starcraft' ) or cheats implemented by saving game state to an alternate location and always writing good changes to a single save file to boost gear etc ( Diablo 1 & 2 for example 'single-player') I also had the Game Genie for NES way back.

But recently I found a 'memory hack' to cheat a game and I am curious as to how a variable can be changed in Ram on the fly when I might be wrong but it was my understanding that Ram was random in where data was stored so how can you know that forcing data to change in memory was going to specifically target the single variable in a game vs hit sensitive operating system values in Ram that could crash the system? Do variables have a fingerprint in memory so they can be found to target and force the binary change in Ram or how are they doing this force change?

Google search didnt come up with anything other than pages and pages of cheat sites, so I figured I'd post it here. Not looking into making a hack for a game, just trying to understand how it all works out of curiosity.Memory access can be sequential (where you cannot access memory location 10 without passing 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and a tape is like that... later memory locations take longer to get to... or random where you could access (say) location 5 straight away. The word 'random' just means that you could access any memory locations chosen at random in the same amount of time. A scroll is an example of sequential access - if you are at the beginning you have to unroll it to see the parts further on, and if you then want to go back to the start you have to roll it back up again, whereas a book is an example of random access (you can flip it open at any page).

Data stored in RAM (Random Access Memory) is not stored at randomly chosen locations. A program (or rather, the programmer) knows exactly where all its data is stored, including all the variables. If you happen to know which location you want to change, you can just target that one value.
Thank You Salmon for answering with good information on this.. but I still have a question.

Quote

Data stored in RAM (Random Access Memory) is not stored at randomly chosen locations. A program (or rather, the programmer) knows exactly where all its data is stored, including all the variables. If you happen to know which location you want to change, you can just target that one value.

Question I have with this is if you have two instances of the same program running the address in the Ram will be different to where the variable is stored in both instances. And on a multitasking system depending on what loads first from second as well as the amount of Ram that one user has say 1GB over another user with 4GB will likely have the variable tied with the game located in different locations in the memory .... so there must be a fingerprint sort of speak to search for before altering the value ... right? If so how do they find this fingerprint to know where the data is located in a multitasking environment?  If there are two instances of a program each will have its own private data memory. When a program is run the operating system allocates it with a unique program ID and also reserves memory for it. The program neither knows nor CARES what the actual memory addresses are. The OS will allocate the program blocks of memory and the program code will know the start address of each block and keep track of the contents.  Cheat engines for a particular game work because the engine author knows the game program inside out and knows how to query the OS to find out the block locations and once that is know can calculate where the various data values are located.

All Processes have their memory SEPARATED. As far as each process is concerned, they are the only thing even in memory. They allocate memory and are given pointers to their own Virtual Address Space, which maps to either RAM itself or the pagefile. Most games either store their information in the same places in Virtual Memory or have some other sort of distinctive way of finding where things are in memory externally, and cheat programs simply open the process and read and write to the game program's address space.

I guess one way to show what me and Salmon are describing is with a small example. Let's pretend we have a small little text adventure. The text adventure stores your inventory. Let's try to keep things as simple as possible here, though that might be tricky. Usually, an inventory item would have quite a bit of information. Let's stick to a simple example- each item has a item ID, and a "damage" value, which might work with armor or something. these might be 32-bit integers, so each item is 8 BYTES of memory. Usually such an inventory listing will probably be used in several places- as a list in each "room" to show the contents of the room, as a list for each player to show their inventory, and as a list on each enemy as well, to determine what they will drop. If the program is written in C, C++, or another compiled language, usually the order that things are initialized will determine where in Virtual Memory the variables are actually stored. If we go with the simple case that the Player structure is initialized first, that means that the Player structure will always start at a given Virtual Memory address in the game process. a Game cheat program can easily take advantage of this- if it knows the structure, it can wander through the memory itself and see things; for example, the Player Structure would likely contain a pointer to an array of INVITEM's for the inventory. the cheat program can use the Process Memory FUNCTIONS to read from the Player structure location (which will be fixed for each compile, most likely); then it can find the pointer to the array, which will be a pointer within the Virtual Memory address space; it can then continue and read that data and parse and interpret it as needed; if desired even changing, say, item IDs within the process memory on the spot to change items.
Thank you both for explaining with detailed information.

Solve : Can anyone suggest a good gaming monitor??

Answer»

I was wondering if someone could help me choose a good gaming monitor, I have just purchased a 3D ready Asus vg236 but I am going to take it back for a refund because the 3D wasn't what I was expecting. I also want a 26" or higher monitor, which leads me to my first question... Will a 26" monitor be to big if I am sat just a couple of feet away? The one I have at the momment is 23" and seems a bit small as I am used to a 26", but I am just wondering if it is bad for the eyes been so big and close up. Also I would like to know the best brands for gaming monitors. Thankyou!!As FAR as best bang for my buck + quality brand & performance, I went with Samsung because the refresh rate was nice and fast so you dont get the LCD blur in games.

Also for PERSONAL preference I also went with a standard square 19" screen vs wide screen as for I hate my older games in widescreen mode making everything flat and wide or running the widescreen in square resolution as if it was 15" with black wasted area on left and right of screen. I did however have to pay almost 2 times the cost of a widescreen to get an older style square screen though, which is stupid that they cost so much more, when you would think that with everyone wanting the wide screens ( except for myself ) that there would be an abundance of them to be in check or cheaper than the widescreens. I cant imagine the widescreens being that much cheaper to produce than standard square screen displays. Unless there is a shortage of square screens for people such as myself who still want a square area that is correctly proportioned for older games etc that are coded to run only 800x600 or 1024x768 and no other resolution size.

When I saw the price tag 2x a widescreen, I almost bought a used display to save money, but yet again I wanted fast refresh without blur and a display that would last with a warranty. Samsung has a great warranty plan and I use to buy samsung for the business I worked at at my prior job. Out of liek 300 displays we only had 1 drop out, and they were great about the replacement. I had the original box saved and shipped it back and I received a replacement in about 2 weeks. I give Samsung 5 stars. I have also DEALT with other display brands like Acer, Dell, Hyundai, HP, and envison. And Out of those names the Dell and HP displays lasted the longest in a corporate environment where they were left on 24/7/365. While we had a large number of issues with the Acer line that someone decided to buy 30 of when I was on a 2 week vacation for a project to cut corners. The Acer warranty system was a mess, and the replacement displays lasted about as long as the original displays which was about 3 MONTHS before issues like backlight burning out, and pixels stuck littered the screens.Benq and Samsung are the best monitors for the gaming pc and you will get any kind of monitor size which you wanting.

Solve : GTA SA (SAMP) speedometer?

Answer»

ok so are you may know and if you DONT, i recently built a new computer, that Dual boots windows XP 64bit and WIndows 7 Ultimate. I enjoy playing SAMP(san andreas multiplayer) and i used to use the speedo mod from this link. However when i try to execute the game it tells me i need at least directx version 9. I have it installed! http://www.gtagarage.com/mods/show.php?id=73
If you notice on the comments im not the only one with this issue, and if ANYONE has found a solution let me know. I used to run it perfectly on my pentium 4 however it wouldnt work when i turned on HT. gave same error. Is it cause i have 8 cores?

my system
AMD FX8120 8 cores at 3.1Ghz
8GB RAM
1TB hard drive
1gb MSI R6870 hawk graphics. Good evening comda and welcome back to CH

From what you are saying it use to run under XP but once you enabled HT on the CPU it won't work? Have you tried XP Compatibility mode. Also up on there site you can try the other version of the mod that they have "PROXY DLL VERSION:" because the direct x one has had issues.

The direct X 9c you installed is it off of the game disc or did you DOWNLOAD it from MS. If you did off of the disc maybe it didn't install correctly. Here is the whole directx 9c from MS http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14546 or maybe there is a update to the mod you are using.

Hope this HELPS, Mike well that version doesnt work either. all the other cleo speedometers crash when i SPAWN a car in SAMp or /park my car in NG-RP. I found this speedo that doesnt use cleo but have NO idea how to install it. Its a program in C++ how to install that any idea?

Solve : Old game?

Answer»

This is for people who have played a OLD computer like something around 8-10 years AGO. I can remember a picture of this game i had when i was little and i played it with my cousins and we had a lot of fun but i cant remember the name of this game.... i just want to play it again to see if it is still entertaining. I can remember one level that is pretty far on in the game where you a lil DUDE (platform game btw) and u start of the left side of the screen and you must get to the right hand side of the screen. I can remember having trouble on this one mission and so we played it over and over again because we couldn't figure it out (That is probably why i can remember this level). Any way it was set in a metallic like room and there is an invisible block that you must jump onto to get to the other side. If you concentrated hard enough you would be able to see it. We did and pasted that level and moved onto the next and this time there were two blocks and it was all about timing which we didn't have.

That is the best description i can give, I would like to know the name of this game... If anybody knows could you please post it up.. i will be forever in your debt. If you can you can reference your idea of what the game might be so i can have a look at what you think. I cant exactly remember the graphics but i know it is in colour.

Any help will be very appreciated, THX,
Tan_Za
Maybe Duke Nukem 2D. You have to give more detailed description cause there are so many games that are like what you described.

You can browse this SITE and maybe you will find it:

If you do, you can also download it. They have pretty much every dos game available for download. Quote from: Linux711 on November 01, 2010, 10:57:30 AM

Duke Nukem 3d wasn't a platformer...

And I've never heard of this "Duke Nukem 2d" game being referred to. I wonder if it's anything like Duke Nukum?Well, I was of course referring to the one that is a platformer.  Haven't played a Duke game in years and I'm posting from a GAMING console, so I couldn't look up the proper title; I just went with the one everyone else is talking about (assuming it was a typo).I am pretty sure that in this game there was no shooting or violence of that type...

Still any help?

Thanks,

Ot's not Duke 3D that wasn't platform, could be 2D though. Anyway thanks for the great link/headsup for Homre of the Underdogs !! great site!!Well i am pretty sure this game had no violence and i cant find anything with the website you guys supplied...

Solve : Computer freezes when playing online games?

Answer»

Hey guyz,

First of all, thanks for helping me with this extremely annoying matter. Here is my problem:
Everytime when I play an online game, for example: Perfect World Internation or World of Warcraft (and even Team Fortress 2), the game freezes after playing for a while (Between 20 and 40 minutes), and the only exit is the reset-button.
The first thing I did was updating my videocard (drivers, if I'm right?) --> NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT
Now this worked for a while, I could play 1 hour straight in a row and then it froze again.
Its very annoying. With offline-games like Mass Effect 2 and Bioshock 2, I dont have any problems at all.
It seriously is only my online-games. Sometimes I'm only able to play for 1 min and it already freezes.
Note: I'm quite a noob when it comes to programming and stuff with the computer

Thanks in advance for helping me!
-Cheers, Bzoekerfirst of:
pc specs, gimme
internet connection(i.e. dsl, modem, etc.)
internet provider(i.e. brighthouse, verizon, etc.)

Sorry for the late reaction!

My computer has Windows XP
Internet Connection --> Very high, sofar I know, using a internet modem
Internet Provider --> A very dutch one, said to give me a download speed of 100 mb/s

Dunno of the above will help anything, but we have a second computer where this problem doesnt occur at all. Its only this computer. I hope someone knows of this problem and knows how to handle it.

Thanks in advance,

Let me know the temps and if you need help with cleaning.

DO NOT clean it out if you do not know what your doing. We will help to make it safe.Alright, I did some Temperature-checks for you:

Normal Temperature......|........Temperature while gaming

CPU = 2700 MHz.....................2700 MHz
CPU = 25 Celcius......................42 Celcius
Core #1 = 32 Celcius.................41 Celcius
Core #2 = 27 Celcius................38 Celcius
CPU Voltage = 1.36 V.............1.34 V
Core #1 Load = 11%................60%
Core #2 Load = 3%..................44%
GFX Temp = 35 Celcius.............37 Celcius

Between those temperatures is a playing time of five minutes.

Thanks in advance,
-Bzoekerdefo somethings overheating, might be your graphics card. Probably going to wanna get that LOOKED at/changed. Is your computer really hot or normal temperature?

Is there dust in and around the fan?

could be a broken fan?

I had the same problem with my REALLLLLY old dell pc. Wasnt worth gettin fixed so i just gave it to a mate. I wouldn't have gone for heat issue but the guys may be right. Bioshock 2 is beast of game compared to WoW.

Have you tried running WoW on the lowest graphic settings and does that make a difference to the amount of time you have before it freezes?

Run WoW in its windowed mode and see if it still freezes, if it does you can then just X it or access Task Manager if it is only crashing the game.I had some really bad crashes with Bioshock 2 when it first came out but it ended up being my graphics card. I installed ATI tools and found out my card was running 98c! Safe to say it died shortly afterwards!Hi FG1536,

It was caused by the graphics card shooting up to 500fps which it shouldn't be doing. I limited the FPS to the screen refresh rate (vsync) and all games work fine now I would of thought it was the cpu overheating, oh well maybe a good time to give the fans and heatsinks a clean up anyway Quote from: Rebo00 aka Spank on November 03, 2010, 10:58:43 AM

Looking at those temperatures, I don't believe temperature to be a factor here
Todays CPUs and Graphics cards (okay so it isnt the newest on the block, but its not exactly old) are capable of operating at 60 Degrees celcius just fine, and most will operate up to 80 Degrees Celcius.

The high frame rates could be the issue, try enabling the V-sync option to FORCED in the nVidia control panel, this will be under the 3D settings. TF2 and WoW are by no means graphic INTENSIVE games, so it could be a miss-sync

The other issue could possibly be with your network adapter driver. Try updating this from your motherboard's website.

Solve : Pinball Arcade?

Answer»

I am currently playing the old Microsoft Pinball Arcade game with Win XP Home on a 9 year old Dell.  I will be buying a new PC soon with
either Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Pro.  Does anyone know if Pinball Arcade will be playable on either of these systems? It's a 12 year old game for Windows 95/98. It's POSSIBLE the game will run fine, but there's no way to know for sure unless you try it. I tried SEARCHING, but couldn't find any references to people playing it on Windows 7. I found someone who was trying it on VISTA and had trouble with the right FLIPPER, but there was no conclusion to that discussion.I remember playing the Demo version just fine when I found my Windows 98 Disk, since that was one of the demos on it.

Yes I played it on win7. No I don't know why.

Solve : Call of duty: Modern warfare 2?

Answer»

It would seem that Modern warfare 2 has been hacked. As of about 20mins ago. The game online is now prity much unplayable as your character can jump about 200ft in the air and run at about 200mph. This is also bizarre as my character went from level 56 to 70 in one game. It also seems that everyone else has as well APART from a small few.
This is a shame if TRUE as someone has yet again messed everything up on a small whim of being 'leet'.
I thought it got hacked a week ago or something. It's happening again.. we cannot play a game unless a person with unlimited abilities is playing. What a shame .. I feel the ability of people to play computers is falling into a travesty. I pity the morons that cheat and then boast about their CHARACTERS or skills. Quote from: QUANTOS on November 20, 2010, 06:23:19 PM

Agreed.

I don't mind people cheating on an offline game that is just 'there' game. That is your choice, but do no force people into dealing with your cheats online. Most of the better online games have a pretty good anti-cheat system.

older ones do as well; for example, Quake 2 doesn't have a built-in "anti-cheat" but since players can vote to kick a player that is cheating clearly that helps to dissuade it.

EDIT: *makes a mental note to play Q2 online again some time soon*

I wanted to start playing the LORD of the Rings Online and so I created an account online and DOWNLOADED their client. The client installed correctly but when I stat up the client it loads to a certain point, and that point is "Getting Data Centers". The client never seems to get past that point, I've restarted it several times but to no avail and I RECEIVE no error messages, which other people with the problem seem to get. I pretty sure the I created a firewall exception for this program. This game is running on a MSi E7235 LAPTOP with Windows 7. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Alright, I was able to solve the problem by REINSTALLING the client.

Solve : The Sims 3 CPU Speed Requirements?

Answer»

I am LOOKING at getting The Sims 3. My laptop meets all the requirements except the CPU speed. I am running Windows Vista and it says the minimum requirements is 2.4 GHz. My latop has 2.0 GHz. Will I be able to play the game or will it run just too slow? If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated.
THANK you. Welcome to the forums.
What processor does your laptop have?
Sims 3 requires a Pentium 4 class processor at 2.4Ghz or better - a better class of processor will not need as much speed to perform the same, for example even a 1.6Ghz Core processor would be better than the 2.4Ghz Pentium 4.My processor is: AMD Turion Dual-Core RM-70 2.00 GHz.
Thanks for the welcome. That's much better than any Pentium 4, so on CPU speed you're good to go.
However, with this being a laptop your graphics may not be uop to scratch ... still, Sims 3 shouldn't be too demanding so you might be all right, it's a fairly modern laptop so should handle it.www.canyourunit.com

Go to this website and try out their analysis software (that compares your pc performance against the minimum specs of the game itself and select the sims 3 from their game list menu... also I find website works bit better in IE but that's just me)I went to the website and EVERYTHING passed except the CPU. The graphics card was up to speed so I think I should be good since it is a dual processor. Thank you for the information.Your computer should be fine I think, Sims 3 is not a hardware intensive game by all means as far as I am aware.

If you can install the game without the software's installer complaining that you're pc does not meet requirements, then it'll run  Sites like that are fine in some ways but fail to recognize the actual performance of most newer processors.  They also don't tend to be able to distinguish between a good and BAD graphics card other than by one or two features which aren't necessarily relevant.
Don't get me wrong, it's a good starting point, but the results always need to be taken with a pinch of salt, and always ask if you're not sure (as you have done, and your CPU is more than adequate).Im using an intel pentium dual core CPU 2.16 GHz and i still lag on sims 3. any idea why? What graphics card do you have, and how much RAM?Name   Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family and 3GB RAM
That's a laptop with integrated graphics card which is why your game performance is bad.*censored* does that mean? sorry im a noob at this kind of stuff. It means you're using a laptop with a very weak graphics chip, which is not DESIGNED for modern games.
You can either reduce the detail settings in the game (if applicable) to try and get acceptable performance, or live with the "lag".pegasus980, in the future make your own threads for support, don't hijack someone elses thread.

Solve : My hotkeys don't work while I play games?

Answer»

Recently, when I play games that use hotkeys like Warcraft III, Starcraft II or rpg games, none of them work. I can type properly in the chatbox, but for things like skills or actions, I have to manually click. If, for example, I am in the start menu for Warcraft III, only the commands that require the alt+(key) work. I can't directly hit the "L" key to load a game like I use to, but have to use alt+L.

I have noticed that when I try to reassign hotkeys, when I press a key, instead of showing what I assigned it to, I get a single digit numeral, and even if I press the same key SUCCESSIVELY or different keys one after another, it ascends from 1 through 9, and then starts back at 0 to start over. This is not only for my pc games, but also when I play browser/flash games, the same problem occurs. If I have to type any text for the flash game, any key sequence that I type in always results in, for example, something like "123456789012345" if I make fifteen total key presses.

I don't know if this is related but this problem started when Firefox first started to highlight certain text boxes. For example, the subject box on this page is highlighted right now, but if I clicked on the search box, Firefox highlights that instead. Thing was that the problem I have right now use to just be on and off, but now its not GOING away, and I have no idea how that happens.

Any help please?

My computer specs are:

       Machine name: LENOVO-PC
   Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.100618-1621)
           Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: LENOVO
       System Model: IdeaPad Y450
               BIOS: Rev 1.0
          Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU     T6600  2.20GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.2GHz
             Memory: 4096MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 3932MB RAM
Page File: 2367MB used, 5496MB available

I can't imagine ANYTHING in Firefox being enabled / disabled that would CAUSE you hotkey issues outside of Firefox. But to be safe I would keep Firefox and all other programs closed when testing out a game such as Warcraft or Starcraft.

Have you added a new keyboard or adjusted the keyboard software / drivers in any way? It's possible that newly installed keyboard software may have changed something.

If all else fails I would make sure all programs are closed and any background programs (processes) are ended through Windows Task Manager. No, I have been using the same keyboard and haven't installed any new drivers or software either. I have already tried switching keyboards before too.

I have also tried closing background programs that I THINK may cause problems, including Firefox and MS Word, but the problem still exists. Try this...

When running the program, e.g. Starcraft II, right-click on the icon and choose the option to run as Administrator. It worked! Thank you very much!

If you don't mind me asking, how do you think running it as an Administrator help solve the problem? Because I am the only account on this laptop, shouldn't it be run as an Administrator anyway? I'm also pretty sure that the account I use is set to administratorAlthough you're logged in as administrator to help prevent potential security risks, when running a program in Windows Vista or XP the UAC does not give programs themselves administrator rights. This helps prevent programs such as malware having the ability of infecting your computer.

Solve : correct processor for playing PC games?

Answer»

My son wants to buy a game (Fallout NEW Vegas) that needs a Core 2 Duo processor to work. Won't an AMD athlon do the job?You need at LEAST an Intel Pentium Dual Core E5200 2.5GHz or an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5800+.

The minimum system requirements are here:
http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=589&game=Fallout:%20New%20Vegas

But I advise that you don't play games on minimum system requirements.Fallout new Vegas system requirements:

http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=589&game=Fallout:%20New%20Vegas

EDIT: beaten to the punch I was... same link too, heh.

as Ironman said; it's BEST not to try to play games using the minimum requirements. Also the graphics card is at least as important as the CPU
Thank you both for your input. I thought the AMD was better than the 2Core Duo but I guess it matters on the version as well. He can't keep up!!Actually, the requirements listed on that page are not minimum, they're "based on recommended system requirements ".

Here are the actual minimum requirements. Again, these are the minimum requirements to run the game, but the player will get a mediocre experience playing this way, but the game will run on its lowest graphic settings.

OS: Windows XP/Vista/7
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz / AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+
RAM: 2 GB
Hard Drive: 10 GB free space
Video Memory: 128 MB
Video Card: nVidia GeForce 6600 / ATI Radeon X1300
Sound Card: DirectX CompatibleConsidering I need to close almost every single program I'm running in order to get either FO3 or New Vegas to run for more then 10 minutes without CRASHING and even then I still occasionally get jerky animation at times, and my system is way past the recommended requirements, I'm going to say that YMMV with regards to requirements on any game whatsoever. It depends who choses the requirements, I guess. Some may define "minimum" as the lowest possible specification for the executable to run at all, with no regards to the actual playability (say hello to 640x480 on the lowest detail settings in some scenarios with that one). Truth be told, I NEVER bother with system requirements at all. I've had games whose minimum requirements almost double my PCs requirements run full speed with no problems with detail turned up, and I've had games whose recommended requirements are essentially half what I have in every respect run as slow as molasses. My method is to install the game and try to play it. too slow? reduce resolution/detail extra graphics and other effects as necessary until it does. Of course my machine can usually run even the very newest games just fine, so perhaps I'm more jaded against requirements since I never have to look at them.

Thing is, your original post was Vague- you asked if an AMD Athlon would do the job. The original AMD Athlon was released in 1999, and no doubt has no hope of getting anywhere near any requirements for semi-modern or modern games. Basically, only the newer Athlons would do the job, and since you haven't supplied any details as to the actual Athlon in question here it's impossible to say wether it meets the listed minimum or recommended requirements.

There is no OEM version... what error message?

There are three releases of Command & Conquer:Red Alert- the DOS version (which is a waste of time to even try to get working) the Windows version (RA95.EXE) which works PERFECTLY fine with the right compat settings in any version of windows from 95 onwards, and "The First Decade" release, which is actually exactly the same (as far as red alert is concerned) as the original release (excepting that it contains the expansions).

I suppose it's also possible we're talking about different games entirely though. (Red Alert 2 works fine as well). Quote from: BC_Programmer on November 06, 2010, 08:43:08 AM

i am referring to my OS as being OEM. i changed all the application files and setup files to run from compatibly windows 95 and am still receiving the error that it doesn't like 64 bit system.
i have attached the error message.

Solve : Graphics Card Crashing Suddenly?

Answer»

Hi everyone, I'm NEW here and I hope I don't sound like a complete idiot or post in the wrong place    I'm suddenly having trouble with what I'm assuming is my graphics card.  I've had OBLIVION installed on here for about two months now, never had any problems with it.  Now, whenever I try to play, Windows encounters a problem and needs to close.  Similarly, whenever I try to play any games on Steam, it refuses to go into full screen mode.  Also, this has never happened before now but now whenever I load Oblivion, Windows has to go into "basic" view mode and it can't display my Aero theme and run Oblivion at the same time.  This has only started happening today.

As far as I know, I haven't modified any of the settings.  I'm not completely ILLITERATE but my knowledge is limited when it comes to graphics cards etc.  All I did today was uninstall Norton Anti-Virus Suite so I could reinstall it from Comcast (since it's free from them).  I didn't uninstall anything else that I recall.  I'm really confused as to why my computer is doing this all of the sudden....Oblivion ran fine about two-three days ago

I am running Windows 7 64 bit, with 4GB of RAM and the graphics card is ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200, the processor is AMD Turion

Something I did notice... when I went into the settings in Oblivion it has my graphics card listed as AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200.  I don't remember this being there before.

I attached a screen shot portion of my specs from "Can You Run It?" for Call of Duty: World at War

[recovering disk space - old attachment deleted by admin]Maybe try a System Restore by doing the following> Press Start /Accessories/System Restore. Now choose a date just before all this went wrong and press ok. You may have to Boot into safe mode to do it.Seems like the computer is using the onboard video card. Check the BIOS settings to confirm this. Quote from: JoshM on October 31, 2010, 01:14:26 AM

Seems like the computer is using the onboard video card. Check the BIOS settings to confirm this.

It's a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200. It's a laptop. What other card would it be using?

Josh, check all of the video card settings in the Catalyst Control Center. Make sure they're either off or set to LET the application decide what to do.

If the system restore doesn't work, you can also try uninstalling then reinstalling the ATI driver. Make sure you remove the Catalyst Control Center as well.Go to the website of your laptop manufacturer and download and install the current driver for your card.

Solve : Running game in WinXP SP3 compatibility mode.?

Answer»

Say I run a game in WinXP SP3 compatibility mode when I have windows 7 ultimate 64, will the game still use my 6 gig of ram I have? Thankyou!!The software will only use what it needs, Windows still allocates the RAM as needed. That's not what he wanted to know

Unless I'm mistaken, compatibility mode will have access to all ram. Quote from: Allan on October 21, 2010, 02:58:53 PM

That's not what he wanted to know

Unless I'm mistaken, compatibility mode will have access to all ram.

Hehe, it wouldn't be the first time that I misunderstood a question, good save Allan.Seeing as they recommend having at least 2GB minimum for XP compatibility mode, I would have to assume whatever is beyond that would be accessible as well. Thanks for the replies so FAR... However, the replies I have had so far seem a little uncertain. Does anyone else know for certain if it will still use my 6 gig ram in WinXP SP3 compatibility mode?If you are running a program in XP compatibility mode, it MUST be 32-bit and therefore would never be able to access more then 2GB of RAM simultaneously. (Actually, 4GB, but that's 4GB has the upper 2GB reserved by the system)) However, memory beyond the ~3.5GB "limit" will still be allocated by the memory manager. Remember, a "pointer" or memory handle is only valid in a single address space; an address/pointer in one program can point to a PIECE of data while the same pointer number in another program COULD point to something completely different; each 4GB address space (32-bit programs) is completely independent. 64-bit programs have a much larger address space, but in both cases, the actual memory address and therefore where it is stored in physical memory is not actually something one can discover, and would be rather silly to try to do anyway because unless you lock a piece of memory the memory manager could swap it out at any time to virtual memory and swap in something else for some other program, meaning that that segment of physical memory is now in use by some other program.

The only thing "compatibility mode" does is configure a number of App-Shims that are commonly needed by programs written for XP.

Solve : BF2 rank information not showing correctly after re-install?

Answer»

The problem I am having is that I downloaded the BF2 1.5 beta patch and then decided to revert back to the 1.41 version. So I UNINSTALLED BF2 (leaving profiles intact when asked if I wanted to remove them also), and then re-installed BF2 along with the 1.41 patch. Now, when I log in to the game, it shows my correct rank on the BFHQ screen (gunnery sergeant), but when I join a game, it lists me as a private with no weapon unlocks. Also, I am having issues now with the game occasionally crashing to the desktop with no ERROR message, which is something I never experienced prior to doing this. At first it was only on the HIGHWAY Tampa servers, so I downloaded and re-installed Highway Tampa, but it doesn't appear to have fixed the problem. When I uninstalled BF2, I did not uninstall BF2 SPECIAL Forces, should I have done that?Is BF2 Special Forces an expansion or addon to the game? If so, yes. You should reinstall that along with BF2. The 1.5 patch would most likely have patched the files for that extension too.
I cannot be 100% sure since I don't have BF2, but I don't see any harm in trying it.It's a little of both, I guess.  I thought after the fact that I should have also uninstalled SF, but oh well....  That's probably my next step, to completely uninstall both BF2 and BF2 SF and then re-install, and then patch.Worth a shot. Well, I'm not 100% sure, but completely uninstalling everything and starting from scratch APPEARS to have fixed it.  At least it hasn't crashed to the desktop yet.

EA support finally got back to me, and now I know why people complain about them.  Their solution to my question, which was ALMOST exactly what I submitted here, was to tell me to empty my temp folder and make sure no programs were running in the background.  That was it.

Wow.

Solve : Warning forever?

Answer»

Hello,

Just a simple query

I downloaded a copy of the Warning Forever game the other day http://download.cnet.com/Warning-Forever/3000-7440_4-10298144.html?tag=txt

When I ran the exe file it created a folder on the hard drive containing an exe file, a couple of readme files, a bin file. It doesn't appear to be in the programs list in the start menu. When the game had been played it also created an ini & sco file and another folder called rec.

I now want to unistall the game, but it is not listed when I run Windows add or remove programs. Does this mean the game is not "fully" installed and is it ok to simply delete the PROGRAM folder from my hard drive manually?

Many thanks Is there a file called Uninstall.exe or Unint.exe or anything similar? If not, then the entire folder can simply be deleted. Thanks for the reply

No there isn't any form of uninstaller. Looks like it'll be a delete of the entire folder.

Cheers again  You could TRY running the installer again to see if it has an uninstall option.Hi, ran the installer again, but nothing DIFFERENT happened. Each time you just get a little box which asks which folder the game should install to. Click ok and it just creates the folders and files described below.
I downloaded a uninstaller program (myunistaller) to see if that would list the game, but it doesn't EITHER
it simply doesn't add itself to the programs list. Not sure why this is a difficult CONCEPT to understand  As I said, nothing wrong with simply deleting it.Sounds like it was a package exe...

You know, kinda like a ZIP, but in exe form that extracts all the files somewhere. Don't see it much, but I have had a few. YOu should be able to just delete if thats the case.

Solve : I need help finding a old computer game Idont konw the name?

Answer»

The only thing I remember from this computer game is that I had a WIZARD and a Archer and also a knight on my side. And  I would go around this map and battle different people. The fighting style was taking turns with each member of my team. I know that the way I upgrade my THREE members was to LEVEL up each of their towers and that about it. so if you think you know what this game might be please let me know.        Disciples? or early HEROES of Mihgt and Magic? Anyone know what it is?

Solve : HELP WITH DOWNLOADING A GAME?

Answer»

Hello, my problem is downloading a game from a floppy disk to my PC by way of ms prompt.
I played this game last year but for some reason I uninstalled it.
The name of the game is " Blake Stone" it is a 3D game and for some reason it won't install.
To install this game I would have to GO to dos and TYPE a:\ I've done that but but it takes me nowhere.
The other way to install it it's by GOING to run and type A:\ then press enter. This does not work either. But in the past it did.
Can anyone help me with this?

Thank you!

COSMOS ( Brandy) You may need to use a program like DosBox to get this to work correctly.Thank you for replying back.
I do have dosbox downloaded but even with this I can't get the game install.
I don't know if I have to type in a code or change something.
It does says  " dosbox with launcher SE" then it has two small boxes with a black check in them.
Is that what I'm suppose to launch?

cosmos (Brandy)You may have to do some special stuff to mount the drive and everything.  Try looking at the directions here (http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/Basic_Setup_and_Installation_of_DosBox).  Does this help? Are you typeing the name of the file?    Are you just doing this A:/  cause it will sit at that till you tell it something.Hi again.
I tried  downloading dosbox which is different version from the one I have, but a message appeared saying this file is corrupted.
So I din't downloaded.

BrandyIt mean that the files are badTry opening the setup.bat or setup.exe file directly from the floppy itselfIf the files are bad there isnt much that he can do, he would have to find another download for it.I have purchased  three of  these games in case they got  corrupted and I have gotten the same results wit all three.
I had no problem installing this game in the past.
I think the problem started when " Ad-Aware" had finished scanning.
The game is install this way, go ti run type A:\ install. Then I hear the PC making noise, like trying to do something, then is silence. Please if you don't mind. how do I open the setup bat or the setup exe. file from the disk? Also once I'm there what do I do?
Sorry for all the questions.
If this don't work then there is NOTHING else to do.

Thank you!

cosmos (Brandy)hhmmmm.....  I dont know but I do know that ad-aware stopped makeing defs for it. Quote from: cosmos on April 23, 2009, 10:56:12 AM

OK

Open My Computer from either youe desktop or start menu.
double click your A:/ drive and then find the setup program from there Hi there, well I went to my computer and found the A drive. Tried to download the game. At first I had hope because I can hear the PC trying to download something.
But then it stopped.
Now I was thinking that maybe there might be something wrong with my Dos, but that's another issue.
will write Apogee which is the company that made this game. Maybe they know something we don't know.
Anyway those who tried to help me thank you for your time. It was greatly appreciated.

God Bless!

cosmos ( Brandy )Hi again, just saw that my floppy disk space is full. Maybe that's why I can't install the game.
Does anyone here know How I can free up space for the A drive. It also says that I'm low on visual memory. I don't know anything about that but that what it said.

Thank you again!

cosmos ( Brandy )Its virtual memory and there is no a drive as a single drive.  The space is all on floppies same with cd and cd readers.  You can do a Format A:/ on any floppies that you want to clear.
