A couple years ago I was BROWSING through the internet and I found this game. It was a dungeon crawler that used one of Tolkien's languages for the commands. I think it was ELVISH but I may be wrong. Today I decided to revisit that game but I could not find it. Is there anyone who knows where is may be or how I can get there. Thank You.I too have a list of some games that I would like to play but cant because I have no idea of the game title or who made it... mainly because EVEN in a google search there are so many games out there that no matter how you describe the game your looking for, it LOOKS like indie and other games out there. Knowing part of the game title might help some or who made the game etc as well as the time period that the game was created, as well as one key attribute to the game that MAKES it stand appart from other games such as a character name in the game etc which may be unique to that game or a town or place that may also be unique that would help in a google search or someone here saying... I think it might be this etc.

So i had a really bad pc 1 week ago and i sold it for 50$ it wasn't worth more. Now i bought the best gaming pc i could afford. I got asus gtx 970 strix, intel core i5 4690k quad core, msi z97 gaming 5, 8GB RAM, and 500 W power supply. I couldn't afford windows 7 so i got myself cracked VERSION and disabled the updates. Now here is the thing i updated the drivers for motherboard with
MSI LIve update 6 and with NVIDIA geforce experiance. I also used driver booster 2 to update all my other components. So i downloaded league of legends and it was working fantastic i got 60 with v-sync and without i got 400 fps on max settings. Now this game im trying out is called trove i downloaded it and installed it but when i got in the game i had like really choppy screen and i think my fps were only about at 30 and in some areas 40 fps. I WENT to enable v-sync in nvdia ge force experiance and still nothing... My friend has the same pc components and he told me that game doesnt lag for him. I don't know what it is Is it because i got cracked windows 7 or because i have really bad and old MONITOR.

Was wondering if anyone here plays or has played Second Life to answer a question about a problem I ran into.

The problem is that I earned L$ ( in game currency which costs REAL money through watching some ADVERTISMENTS vs spending my money ) and I went to buy some avitar accessories to customize my avitar. For the most part the purchases in game went well and items applied correctly to myself with the 865 $L that I had to spend. I was able to apply the items advertised in the game to my avitar, however I found a vendor in the game that had a couple clothing sets less expensive than the others and I bought all 3 sets, and when applied to my avitar I end up wearing the sign that was on the wall so I have a sign embedded through my avitar.

Looking around on google I didn't find anything on this issue, and I feel like maybe I was scammed in game spending the virtual currency to buy virtual objects in which someone instead of giving me the copy of the clothes instead sold me flat copies of the signs that I SELECTED and were advertised as clothing.

One of the clothing items said something about applying it to your right-hand. I went in and selected that and it places the flat sign through my wrist and impales my body of my avitar. A person in game talked something about differences between MESH and Classic items. Classic Avitar selections which I have one of is suppose to work with both I was told. I for the sake of testing attempted to apply the clothing to a newer avitar model and ended up with the same results, so I don't believe it to be a compatibility issue with older Classic style avitar in which the clothing fails to wrap to the avitar. I took some screen shots and could share them if needed, but they are on my home computer and I am typing this from work on my 15 min break.

Is there a way to fix this issue or get my virtual money back through some sort of customer complaint system in game?


BTW Second Life came out like 11 years ago and I forgot about it until a friend suggested I check it out. Its way different than when I saw it at launch in 2004. Lots of interesting scripts and multimedia features embedded to play streaming content on virtual TV's etc while in game etc, and juke boxes to select what music to play from internet streams and players etc. As well as someone shared with me an unofficial Disney location in which someone painstakenly reconstructed the LAYOUT of some of Disney with stores, rides, events, etc. They even had a parade that plays out at timed intervals and random weather in which it rained. Reminded me of the last time I was to Orlando and sure enough it rained while at Disney.. LOL ok I found a solution.... a person in game told me that I needed to drag and drop the item to be rezzed on the ground. Then I had to open the rezzed container, and then I received the items, and then click on it again as its rezzed to get rid of the 2D sign that I rezzed from inventory.

All set now, and glad I didn't get scammed into not getting what was advertised in the virtual environment.

While SL is cool in many aspects, its user interface controls seem not very straight forward. It should be much easier to just buy and item and apply it, and in this game it seems like you need to get items added to inventory and sometimes go through a process to get the items from containers that aren't obvious they are hidden within containers. A mouse over option with unpackage contents WOULD make it so much easier than going through about 8 steps that if you don't know how to perform them from someone else telling you your out of luck and lost like I was.

I went on vacation and brought my windows 7 laptop. I start playing metal gear rising and binding of isaac rebirth, first it starts of a bit laggy but otherwise fine. Then the the madness begins. Later when playing, the lag is gone but then later SOMETIMES it speeds up. Then it gets worse and worse. Which now its fast almost all the time. For some reason its happening on my laptop but I never got this on my windows 8. Thanks in advance.What make/model of laptop so we can check into specs?

It looks like your GPU might be borderline for it under minimum specs, but the CPU requirement calls for a 4 core CPU and you only have 2 cores.

I've used COMPUTERS since the early days, but have no experience with how operating systems work.
This may WELL be like asking whether I can run my car on hay instead of petrol, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.
I would be happy to migrate most of my computer operations to non-MS programmes, but I am a keen flight simmer, and do not want to lose access to this hobby.

So the question is; Is there a way of running MS Flight Sim on anything other than an MS OS, please?

BTW, do you own a legit copy of Windows FS?
If so, you can install a dual boot setup on your Linux PC and play FS by doing a reboot and SELECT windows. **
For a limited time, MS will let you run Windows without a license on a trail basis. But that is only for the OS, not other products, like FS.

i know there is "SHOW HELPER" button/function in VALVE hammer, but in my valve hammer there is no "show helper" at all...!! i used hammer 3.4 and 3.5.2

Curious as to if there is a way to defrag large game files that seem to get skipped by the Windows 7 Defrag as well as Auslogics Defrag. The files are like 6GB or greater in size and it shows them as fragmented and I havent found a way yet to get them to not be fragmented. Tried uninstalling the game, defragmenting drive to collapse data to be more continuous, then reinstalling the game clean and I am right back to the same amount of fragmentation of 30% on a 164.7GB drive with the majority of the fragmentation being with the large game files of a 32GB game install, and other MMORPG games that consume 10GB to 25GB in size.

*Maybe its just the nature of excessively large files that chunks of it are going to fill in the holes between other data segments on the platters, however it seems as though there should be a way to give it a continuous segment somewhere on the drive in the empty area skipping over the SMALLER gaps that cause it to fragment and cause the drive to have to sweep excessively or spin extra revolutions to wait for the data segment to come around again to read in since there is 36GB free on a 164.7GB drive?

The only thing I havent done with this drive yet, which use to be a trick for better performance years ago was short stroking the drive by making a smaller PARTITION special to an area for data to be located for a faster read. Quick look online it looks like there is a better method than just making a size blindly for the partition, but to test different sizes and look at GRAPH info on performance to find the optimal size that is large enough for the data and not too large that the performance is not optimal: http://lifehacker.com/how-to-short-stroke-your-hard-drive-for-optimal-speed-1598306074

This would all be resolved with a SSD in that older system since it does have SATA ports, but I just figured I'd throw this out for discussion to see if there is a way to resolve the fragmentation issue. I might go the route of short stroking it if that is the direction to go.


RAM needs to get cheaper so I can just load up the game files to a Ramdrive Although this old computer maxes out at 4GB DDR2 Looking at battlenet was not much help. Hello. I've been having trouble connecting to other players in almost all of my online games. When I attempt to CONNECT to other players, my computer is unable to locate remote servers. The searchs end in time-outs every time. Additionally, if I host a server, it is invisible to others. For some games, I'm ABLE to scrounge up a work-around, but my preference would really be to resolve the underlining problem. Outside of the context of online games, my computer has no problems accessing the internet.

My computer is a personal gaming desktop that connects to the internet wirelessly. It has Avast! as its active anti-fire, but disabling and/or uninstalling the program (along with the Windows firewall) has had no impact on the issue. I have also used other anti-VIRUS software on the same machine in the past, which has since been removed. (I know that many anti-viruses leave files behind after being installed, so perhaps that is a place to start?)

Here are some games that have given me this problem:
World of Warcraft: Eventually, I was able to manage a work-around by putting the game into 32-bit. According to their support department, a virus inhibits the game's ability connect with online servers in 64-bit. However, my computer is virus-free as far as I know, and the problem persisted even after scrubbing the system with an anti-virus.
Nether: I managed a work-around for this game as well, but I can't recall how I did it.
ARK Survival Evolved: The object of my current struggle. I've made no progress on this one yet.
Any Steam Servers: When I click to join a server, a window flashes up for a moment before immediately disappearing. I assume this is a manifestation of my computer attempting to form a connection and immediately failing.

I've seen some CHATTER about this issue being fixed by reinstalling Windows 7, but I'd rather dodge that bullet to the head if I can. So, I come to you with the faint hope that there might be an alternative. Even if walking backwards to FACTORY defaults is the only choice, I would still be interested to know what caused the dilemma in the first place. Any help would be very much appreciated. If you ping www.google.com -T from command shell and leave it running for about 5 minutes while watching for problems does it show any problems with failed pings or excessive latency?

Problems with loading a map in CS 1.6
Hello guys.
I'm a beginner with building maps in Counter-Strike v1.6 and i've built a normal, BASIC map, a squarish room and having CT and T spawn inside. I used Valve Hammer program to build it.
I finished building the map, I've saved the .map file into my ZHLT, and run batch file to compile the map, copy map file to cs map directory and run the game, everything SEEMS normal
But the problem is that as soon as i load my custom game and start, the game just exit WITHOUT any error message.
without CLICKING batch file, i ALSO start a new game and load my custom map, the result is the same, the game exit.

i don't khow what to do!!!...

What happens if you take a map that works, and make a very minor change and save that. Does that very minor change cause that map to then fail to load in which the map editor might be the cause? ( * I would back up the map file first before changing an aleady existing map file so that you could revert back or rename it as one that wont overwrite the original. )

Hello, i recently bought a decent computer with a i5 4460, asus ge force gtx 760, 8GB of ram etc i can play pretty much every games on ultra/high for exemple i play league of legends with 300 fps but the image doesn't run smooth, and SOMETIMES it seems like it's lagging does anyone know what should i do for the image runs with 60 frames ?

You might be hitting the upper limit of the i5 CPU with the video card cranked up that high for 300 fps, if you lower the settings some you might find a better performance with possibly no noticable impact to gameplay and it will smooth over the stutter / lag.

Other causes for problems like this are if you are overclocking in any way, you can get tripped up timings. For example I went for maximum overclock of my old gaming system and it was STABLE with 12% overclock, but games would have a surge and stutter to them. I lowered my overclock to 10% and the games ran smooth. The surging and fraction of a second stutter was gone.

I have also seen systems with cheap RAM or mismatched RAM stutter games. Is this a single stick or a MATCHED pair, as well as what make/model of memory is used?

I had a problem years ago with World of Warcraft having occasional framerate lag and stutters. A friend of mine asked what I was running for memory and I said 1GB which was plenty of memory at the time. And he said no... what brand. I said it was a single stick of PNY memory from Staples. He gave me a Corsair 1GB stick and said try this instead. I swapped out the single RAM stick and whalla... problem was resolved! When it comes to memory I no longer buy the cheap sticks. I gave him his stick back and bought a pair of Corsair XMS2 sticks, and upgraded to 2GB of RAM... this was back in 2009 when 2GB was plenty. Now days I feel that 4GB is bare minimum for gaming since the 64 bit OS wants about 2GB of it.It's only the game open and i've a Kingston HyperX Fury DDR3-1600MHz 2x4GBWhat are you running for motherboard make/model? Any overclocking of the CPU or GPU or running native/normal clock?

RAM looks good, good quality. You can run memtest86 on them to make sure the pair are a good teamed pair if you like.How do i do that?

I'm currently saving some money to add more 2x4 ram and a ssdI'd run CPU-Z and make sure the RAM is 1600 and not running at 1333. A friend of mine had that happen to his Core i7. He had to go into BIOS and mess with XMP. If your RAM is running 1600 then your all set with the setting then.

I just today can't login into any of my ACCOUNTS that have a capital letter in the PASSWORD. i don't know what it could possibly be, i tried a DIFFERENT KEYBOARD and the on screen keyboard but nothing changes. These are my primary gaming accounts so it's really annoying. just WONDERING if anyone has run into a problem like this.

I'm looking for a soundboard program to PLAY sound files through voice chat so me and my friends can mess around on our server. Any recommendations? I tried Soundplant, but my friends say they can barely even hear it, like it's not even playing through the mic channel and my mic just HAPPENS to be picking up the sound playing from the speakers. Hi so I'm not good with computers but I bought one over a year ago because I was starting to get really into PC gaming. I bought all the parts and had it assembled by a company called iBuyPower and ever since day 1 it has experienced very low frame rate in all my games and it crashes QUITE frequently. I had a very busy year and was not able to hound the company as much as I should have. I did end up sending it in once, and they held onto it for about 5 weeks and all they did was replace the hard drive and video card. This didn't make any difference. Now my warranty is up and they wont help me, so I'm hoping some experts can give me an idea of what's wrong or how to find out what's wrong.

As FAR as specs go, I don't remember it all but I'll post them if I can find my order summary. I do know I have 16 gigs of RAM and the video card is a Nvidia GTX 770. Also the power supply is 850 watts and my tower is not overclocked. Yes, my drivers are up to date. Lowering the in game graphics also does not improve my FPS. The FPS starts off kind of smooth, around 40-50, but if anything exciting happens in a game (attack animations, a second or third person on screen) it just falls to around 10-15 and stays there until things settle down. I've experienced this problem in ALMOST every game I've played, most are multiplayer. This includes Guild Wars 2, LoL, Heroes of the Storm, Dota 2, Serious Sam, The Old Republic, Neverwinter, Borderlands 2, Neotokyo, Diablo 3 and Gary's Mod.

When the PC crashes, it does not auto-power down. My screen and mouse cursor simply freeze, with the computer still running, and my keyboard locks up so I can't do anything other than hold down the power button and force a shut down. There isn't really a pattern to the crashes, but I deal with at least 2-3 on a DAILY basis. Sometimes the crashes are immediately after a previous crash, and sometimes they are hours and hours in between.

The FPS drops are, for whatever reason, not present at all in: Dark Souls 2, Smite, Hearthstone, and single-player steam games like Bastion and Valdis Story. However I have still have to deal with the crashing in all of these games (except for Hearthstone, which shows no sign of either problem). So please, if anybody has an idea of what's wrong, tell me. Help me out here. I'm exhausted of this computer, and it's barely lasted a year. These issues are ongoing from the day it arrived at my doorstep, and I received virtually no help from the ones who "expertly" built it for me. And if this topic is in the wrong forum, please tell me and I can take my question somewhere else. Thank you for reading all this, please help me, I'm desperate.Without specific details from the event log, it is just guess work.

The above is for Windows 7. So I'm not entirely sure what all this stuff means but I did check the event log. There are over 3,200 errors/warnings listed since my PC was turned on for the first time. Anything in the log listed as "critical" I'm assuming is a crash, and the source for all of these "criticals" is "Kernel-power". The source for virtually all of the "errors" are either "Load Perf", "Application failure", or "Service control manager", with some other various things peppered in. Again, I have no idea what to make of this information.

So I play some games that have some redundant grinding and instead of having to man the computer to grind the virtual materials such as metal in this case to craft gear and weapons on a Facebook Flash Game that is designed to be hours of farming materials daily to craft, I generally study the gameplay and look for redundant patterns in the game that can be automated and then code up a macro to have the computer farm the materials for me so that when i am actually playing the game I can just enjoy having the needed materials and play for like 20 minutes of the actual 4 hours of game play that is non grinding to MAKE decisions and perform non redundant processes.

I coded up a macro this morning and had it triggered to start by a batch file which would give me 10 seconds after launching the batch from desktop to make sure that the browser window was brought back into position maximized and my fingers away from mouse and keyboard before it would run.

My flaw in my batch file was that I thought that it would wait until the macro instance ended before going to the goto routine that would run the 10 second time delay and run the macro over again and this time the browser is already maximized and the game is back at the starting point to run the same tasks of grinding for materials over and over again.

I walked away from the computer to get a water bottle and when i came back to the computer the mouse pointer was going crazy. At first I thought the macro was glitched. But when I brought up task manager I saw that I had over 20 instances of the macro running and within less than a minute after CTRL + ALT + DELETE to get to task manager, now the keyboard controls were completely locked out as for more instances of the macro were starting every 10 seconds and each macro would run for about 4 minutes, so as that 1 macro took 4 minutes to run, 24 other instances of the same macro were started and running before that 1 instance would come to an end.

I ended up having to push the power button on the computer to force the shutdown as for it was out of control. Before shutdown i decided to take a short video of it with camera to show friends of how bad a macro malfunction could get when not really cheating in the game, but making your computer perform the time wasting grind in games that are designed with redundant grinding that most people waste their time physically grinding it out and wondering where 4 hours of their day went etc. When the macros are coded to start and end correctly its a sweet thing to have the computer handle the no brainer point and click work that doesnt require any real smarts but by which the game designers added to slow down users progress and leech hours of the life away from the game players. In the meantime while these macros run i am able to take care of stuff around my house etc and this way dishes get done, trash gets taken out which = a Happy Wife and Life and I can play the game for the enjoyable 20 minutes of the 4 hour daily grind to accomplish all the goals that the game has for dailys and the computer can play the boring 3 hours and 40 minutes of no brainer redundancy.

Also for anyone wondering what program I am using for the keyboard/mouse macro it is called Macro Recorder - Pro Edition by Jitbit . I have used this for years and for all sorts of automation tasks. https://www.jitbit.com/macro-recorder/ I bought Pro Edition because it allows you to create stand alone EXE's that work on other systems without the Jitbit software having to be installed on those systems. Also I was using this for commercial use at the time when I bought it, but have since found benefits for it in gaming.

***Warning about Macro use in Games***
Some game clients and/or game servers have algorithms that look for ( bot like ) repetition. If caught you can be banned from the games permanently. This can be drastic consequences if its a paid for game and you have many many hours of your life sunken into the game progress. I only use the macros on free online games were if I get caught and locked out... oh well I will find another free online game to play. I had yet to be banned by any game providers and I havent used the macros for any real cheats. Its mainly just to remove the time wasting grind from games so I can enjoy the decision making and character building processes since running a DUNGEON for example over and over again for material drops is just plain boring. I dont have any special ABILITIES that others dont possess in game who actually put all the many hours into the gameplay.

One game I have NOT used the automation on is World of Warcraft because their game CLIENT has memory sniffers that look for bots and automation routines in your systems physical memory locally and Blizzards game servers have scripts that are constantly monitoring for bots/ macros and they catch people through the fact that time intervals between sequences of MOVEMENTS and command instructions in the game repeat at an interval too precise to be that of a human controlling the computer with the game client running.

I got half-life 2 and started it then it went to loading screen and then crashed and said "Available memory less than 128MB!!! -1".
Can somebody help me with this!Are you running WINDOWS 7 64-bit? Looks LIKE this is a fairly common issue although I seem to remember it working fine for me with the same OS. The fix is to set hl2.exe to run in XP compatibility mode - go to the installation directory of thre game, right click hl2.exe, go to properties, compatibility tab, tick the first box and select Windows XP SERVICE Pack 3. Saw this article on facebook and the CPU suggestion caught my eye when i saw the CPU that I have in my newest gaming rig, and would have expected lesser.

Looking at the minimum and suggested requirements the 40GB HDD space required was another surprise. I thought that World of Warcraft was the largest at current 29.424GB with all 5 expansions added + base game content of classic.

Looks LIKE I will be saving up for a video CARD upgrade as well since I have plans on playing this game and the GTX 260 isnt going to cut it that I currently have with minimum of the GTX 660 and suggested GTX 770.

The GOOD thing is with all other suggested spec's its an exact match to my latest gaming rig. So I am only looking at a video card needed and not better CPU/RAM etc.

I am having a rather debilitating PROBLEM, In bioshock infinite the first fight after finding the girl and escaping the....bird THING. My left click to fire function is malfunctioning it will fire randomly and sometimes work but othertimes not. I don't BELIEVE it is a hardware issue as the mouse works fine for every other game, but this has been a recurring issue that has presented itself in Fallout LoL and bioshock, Did i contract some weird Gamer targeted virus or something? or whats the deal?any ideas? i'm going to do a fresh install if i can't figure it out and post updates but id rather not have to do that. also i will record a video and post it so you can SEE more of what is WRONG. I experience low framerate in Dirt 3 on Steam since I installed it, even at very low settings without AA. Everything is fine (60fps) until the lights turn green (~40fps)
I checked the game cache and repaired Steam. Nothing changed

I'm running Dirt 2 at 60fps at Ultra with max AA, and Grid 2 at High at 50-60fps, so I should be able to run Dirt 3 at high.

I googled and the only solution I found is to check the game cache and repair Steam.


Thanks! If possible, try running the game in windowed mode instead of full-screen to see if that helps at all. You could always try to uninstall and reinstall the game. Windowed mode is even worse (20FPS). I'll reinstall and see what happens.

If you open up task manager and go to performance while running the game in windowed mode or something you may be able to see what is bottlenecking there.

First of all, I know nothing about online gaming. The only games I've ever played on my computer came with Windows, such as hearts, , solitary, freecell, etc. I recently discovered the Internet Spades game where you go online and play against three other anonymous players (or a computer that kicks in if one or more leave during the game). It also came with W7, my operating system, I'd just never thought to use it before.
What I'm wondering is if there is a way to play card games online with your friends. Say if you and three friends, who may live in different PARTS of the country, are able to go online at the same time and play a card game, such as Spades or Hearts, with each other? Maybe even talk and/or see each other? Are there any online games like this? Is this even possible? Before I retired I played cards with three friends every Friday night, and I really miss that, and just had the thought that maybe we COULD do it again, online. I've heard someone saying that maybe I have a old videocard. But i've bought it 1year ago. INFO online suggests that the INTEGRATED APU = ( CPU + GPU ) is weak for GAMING. You probably need to add a ACTUAL good quality video card to a PCI-E slot to resolve this issue with those games.

On this server voice servers will also be deployed, TS3,Ventrillo and possibly Mumble, For these I can rarely find any information about requirements at all.

This is scaled by how MANY concurrent connections you will have to maintain. This info could be already readily available through contacting Valve Corporation.

For game licensing info, I'd contact Valve Corporation. For game events that i use to host, i bought multiple copies of the same game or friends who attended already owned legal copies of the game. At a game con I set up 8 computers once and had all 8 boxes of Unreal Tournament 99 with me just in case anyone questioned the legality of running 8 copies of the same game at the same time as for it could have been easily rolled out using the single game copy. Your project is on a MUCH larger scale from my knowledge of lan parties.

-How do you recommend on how to roll out higher amount of (virtual) Game servers?

The server linked looks nice, however how many people will be connecting to this at the same time, and are you familiar with setting up clusters to load BALANCE?

Lastly another thing to consider is not having all your eggs in 1 BASKET, that is not having all your servers located through a single location or pipe to the internet as for if someone wanted to DDoS you, you could be crippled quickly.

So I am abit confused about buying the HP Pavilion 15-p053no . The specs are the following:

-15,6" 1366x768
-AMD Quad A10-5745M
-RAM: 6GB DDR3L
-Hårddisk 750GB
-AMD Radeon R7 M260

I am interested in running games like bf4 or bf3 and far cry 3..etc but Unfortunately I could not find much about the M260 and its performance ( some guy POSTED a youtube video on battlefield 4 but it was not enough). I looked it up at notebookcheck.com but it showed that battlefield 4 could not be ran on that gpu(shows 0,0,0,0 fps). There were no INFORMATION for battlefield 3.

I had another laptop with an nvidia GT 630M ( 128 bit mem bus width) which was able to run battlefield 3 on high settings with AAx1 on 1366x768 ( playing was smooth even in multiplayer).

What I would like to ask is:
- Will the m260 GIVE a decent performance even if its memory bus width was only 64 bit and not 128 bit ? Is it going to be better than the nvidia GT 630M?

The M260 should be better than the 630M but it's still not designed for high end gaming, it's a midrange laptop card at the end of the day. What CPU is in your laptop with the 630M?Well i am not sure the m260 will perform better than my 630m as it has 64 bit bus width only

The CPU was an intel I5 2.25 ghz.Bus width is only part of the story, the M260 is still a faster card although not orders of magnitude better.
Be aware the CPU in your OP is a fair bit slower than a mobile i5 though which will affect performance, you may find especially in games like BF3 which are quite CPU hungry there may not be much difference in performance even with the slightly faster, newer GPU.

Trying to improve gaming performance on my sons computer.
I am also helping my sister in law purchase a gaming computer for her son.

My line of thought is two fold.

First: when it comes to computers or phones or whatever. Without working knowledge. We pay for a lot of crap we don't need, or use. And we (I) often overlook the items that MAKE a real difference.

Second: The extreme high end. Or even outside my budget where cash becomes painful. Is futile in electronics because most things will be either outdated or under-perform when compared to newer releases within two to three years. As far as I can tell. A computer is one of the worst "investments" a person makes. Right behind purchasing a new car.

My (possibly flawed) understanding of compromise and balance in regard to gaming computers. In order of their priority in regard to gaming.

It is also my understanding that any result with be limited to the capabilities of the least performing component??? I think a better graphics card would do the trick for me. But I'm not sure. And I dont WANT to spend money on something that is not fully utilized. That's why am ASKING you all for your help.

My goal for my boys upgrade is, to not overpurchase and achieve the best balance for GAMING within my budget. Like to keep the budget range between $250 and $350.

In order to get a higher end graphics card (Anything higher than a GeForce 750ti anyway) you will need to upgrade the power supply to a unit around 550w. It is important to not cheap out on this, cheap PSUs can be DOWNRIGHT dangerous!

The main thing to check is the size of the video card to ensure it will fit, you will need to look up the dimensions for the card you want to buy and then check those against the space in the case, the most important factor is usually the length of the card.

As far as the ordering for gaming, I would say that the ordering would be: Graphics Card, CPU, RAM and then Monitor. The monitor is nice to look at but it's much more important to have a PC that can actually run the game at a playable level than having a really nice monitor.

Ok, so I want to set up a garry's MOD server. I use SteamCMD and followed all instructions and it seems to be working for me. I also PORT fowarded it to my public ip 92.66.190.xxx.
But now the problem: The server automatically CHOSES my internal ip wich is 10.0.0.x (x changes all the time). This is very annoying because nobody can join me this way.
Even when I search for IPCONFIG in CMD it says:
IPv4 adress.........10.0.0.x
This way it will not CHOSE my public ip adress.

This issue occurs in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas in a multiplayer mod called San Andreas: Multiplayer (SA:MP)

First, let me preface this by saying that I have practically done everything I can think of to the GAME in terms of fixing this problem. I have played this game for probably close to 8 years now. I've learned a lot about what works and doesn't work so I ask you to look at possible options that are not game specific but more computer specific, as I can go through and handle changes to the game myself.

I used to have this problem where when I would play this game, if I went into rough spots where my FPS would normally drop, it would drop quite a bit and would not recover. It essentially "DEGRADED" until the point where I couldn't go anywhere (even to a different city) without the FPS being really bad and the only way to fix it would be to relog (restart the program and reconnect to the server). This is not the problem anymore. I have managed to fix that issue but an issue still lingers. My FPS just isn't what it should be. I have a GT 650M with an i7 3632QM @ 2.2 GHZ. Yeah, it's a laptop. Yeah, it's a mobile GPU. But I don't understand how a game made 10 years ago can run so poorly, and it didn't run this way like a year ago when I bought the laptop. This is something that's started, and I'm not sure what resolve.

- Reinstalled multiple TIMES
- Removed all mods
- Set all settings down very low
- Turned off the frame limiter
- Moved the game directory

[PC Related]
- Tried various compatibility modes (none works best for W8)
- Set affinity to all cores and priority on high for the sa.exe process (helps a little)
- Roughly 63c when the game is running on all cores
- I always play with my laptop plugged in and on maximum performance mode

[GT 650M Related]
- Modified GPU settings
- Ensured that the Nvidia GPU is used for the game
- Most recent drivers
- Maxed around 81c when the game is running


[What I haven't tried]
- SA:MP has a multicore setting, it is currently on. Haven't tried turning it off
- Reinstalling my OS (it didn't come with a copy of W8 and I have no OS' around, too broke to buy one)

So let me tell you a story. A few months ago I had an issue where trying to play the game at all would cause me to have a bad framerate. It wasn't influenced by where I was in the game world, it was just that the game was not performing the way it should have been. I also couldn't watch YT videos, listen to MUSIC, and do one other thing (that I forgot). This was all resolved once I did a System Restore. However; this did not fix everything. Around that time, I noticed that often it would say my disk usage was 100% when I looked at my task manager. Now, I haven't been able to see it as often but I do recall seeing it recently. I think I saw it mostly after closing the game (presumably meaning that the game is making me use so much of my disk uncharacteristically? but thats up to you guys). But I can't confirm that because I can't replicate the problem and I don't have task manager open all the time. I try to check it and see what I can find but I can't always. I just figured I'd bring it up in case it happens to be relevant.

Does anyone have an ideas why the game may not be performing aswell as it should be on my laptop that is

1. Capable of handling the game
2. Has had the game perform much better previously (when first bought)I'm no expert but I'd say that you probably installed some sort of software that is running in the background and using your resources. This is a game that can run on a reasonably good android phone.

So, I bought this game called Bionicle for $3.00 at a 2nd hand shop. Loaded the game with no problems to my Windows 7 64-bit system. Played the game and its not an easy game. Found that is I spammed the V key I can shield myself pretty well from the attacks, but my fingers were getting tired with having to hit the V key like 2 x per second. So I said why dont i make a keyboard macro and have that running for the V key to be struck frequently without me having to get finger fatigue.

I have USED keyboard macros in the past for some games where I needed to spam some keys etc, and those games it worked out perfect. For some reason the macro with this game doesnt take the V key from the macro, so I am not sure if the game has an anti cheat built into it that blocks keyboard macros ( or ) if the keyboard macro isnt compatible with passing the V keystrokes to the game for some reason?

I am thinking there is an incompatibility with getting the V keys to the game, but not sure why? Anyone have any ideas or WORK around suggestions to pass keystrokes to a game from a macro to save me from finger fatigue?

Attached is a pic of the software I use JitBit Macro Recorder that is a great program for making quick macros that work with just about everything. You can compile these macros as exe's too to run stand alone on another computer that doesnt even have this software installed, so i used it a lot back at my prior IT job when having to roll out changes to hundreds of systems that were the same build, I just had to run through the process on 1 PC and record the process and then compile it to an EXE and then bring the macro with me on a thumb drive and execute it on the systems and sit back and watch the mouse pointer come to life and keystrokes appear on the computer with the computer acting just as if you were physically typing and using the mouse.

This macro for spamming the V key is just 4 lines, and I set the key delay to 100ms manually. When exiting the game the V key is STILL spamming and so before launching the compiled macro, I always create a batch file with taskkill /im macroname.exe to be able to point and click to kill the macro SINCE sometimes the hotkey doesnt work to exit the loop with the keyboard controls flooded with a spammed key etc.

Hi so this is my first post here and after reading some of the threads it looks like quite a friendly forum even though some basic questions are asked.
So i've got quite a basic-ish question to ask and it's regarding the FPS during gaming. So, I'd like to know if there's some sort of way to Max out my FPS as I bought an ALIENWARE 14, which is quite the beast of the gaming laptops, and while playing League of Legends I noticed that the FPS is still at 60 and staying there throughout the game. Before I bought this laptop I had an Acer Aspire 5740G which was atleast 3 years old and still managed to get 60FPS while playing on mid graphics. Now I'm playing on Ultra graphics and I'm sure that this laptop can reach more than 60FPS and would like to know how I can achieve that. I am also sure that I didn't click the the FPS limiter.

Just as extra information for those who don't know, the Alienware 14's hardware are the following:

Anyone having issues with My.com being an "upload bandwidth hog" can make a simple adjustment to throttle the upload down and even stop the seed.

The default is 100KB/sec with the seed active under all conditions.

I throttled mine way back to a 1KB/sec and also with the option of NOT to "Continue Seeding When Download Complete." As well as LIMITED the connections to my seed service to 1 instead of 200. And these changes are reflected on the last ( 4th ) pic below. The (3rd) pic shows the default settings before changes are made.

You can bring this up to make adjustments to how much bandwidth is allowed by right-clicking on the My.com icon in the taskbar. Then FOLLOW the steps in the pics attached. The last pic shows how my network activity went almost silent after the changes from continuous uploading ever since I installed Allods yesterday.

Since my broadband connection is the cheaper per month, lesser bandwidth package of 5 megs download by 1 meg upload for $49.99 per month, and I have vonage which requires plenty of bandwidth to function as well as I have other computers and streaming players for netflix etc in my home + GAME systems such as PS3 that also use bandwidth, I need to limit the bandwidth use of everything to keep the balance. On my router I have it flashed with DD-WRT and I have rules set to allocate slices of bandwidth to specific devices with bandwidth priorities. With no rule set for my gaming computer though, because I didnt want to choke off my bandwidth since I dont upload and download often but when I do I want a direct shot out to the internet WITHOUT a throttle on it, games installed that have bandwidth hungry upload seed and download update settings can be a problem, so I generally have to throttle them back to where they function without any degradation in game performance by use of options within the service that provides them or use of temporary rules on my router flashed with DD-WRT to throttle my bandwidth to my gaming PC while I am running a game with no options for bandwidth control with the seeding etc, and then when done playing the game, go to my router after first making sure no one is using the PHONE and remove the rule on the bandwidth bottleneck to my gaming system, which requires a reboot of the router to process this change, and thats why I make sure no one is on the phone when I do it. * Note: I havent had to use this method to use temp rule for bandwidth with my router in a while, as for most games these days allow for you to make the necessary changes to them from their default settings.

I figured I'd share this info in case anyone is playing any games from My.com such as Allods as i am and would like to throttle the games bandwidth back without degrading playability if they also have limited bandwidth like myself.

I play Civilization 5 via STEAM on my Windows 7 laptop and Windows 8 desktop. I have regularly PLAYED games on both PCs without issue, until the past week.

Problem 1:

LAST week, when I tried to load CIV5 on the Windows 8 desktop, I kept getting this prompt



It is a week later, and I still am having this problem.
Basically I can play STEAM on the W8Desktop "offline" but if I want to load my game from the W7laptop on STEAM cloud, I can't.



Problem 2:

So on Windows 8 I played as Babylon to turn 450.
When I go on my W7laptop, I only have it saved to turn 420...whereas if I go to the Windows8 I can load it on turn 450.

My GTX 480 which is supposed to be a far superior CARD lags in Windows 8 games, PARTICULARLY asphalt 8, which has just basic graphics and my ATi 4850 which is a much cheaper card runs them smoothly and flawlessly. Feels like I just wasted all this money on a GTX 480. HELP anyone.

I am a sims FREAK and with the new one coming out some I went to a site to see if I could run it and these are the results I got...

Hello everyone this is my first post here and Ill try to keep it short so I can get some help.

I built a PC last summer just for gaming, it was more then capable of handling all games on ultra settings but when I played games like skyrim and even OBLIVION their would be STUTTERING in LARGE AREAS like castles and stuff for NO REASON, I am also in the Archeage Beta at ultra settings and it worked perfectly up this spot where there was a HUGE tree with falling leaves and stuff and it stuttered alot every time I looked in its direction.. I thought it was something with my computer so I sold it and this time Bought one from Cyberpower PC and am experiencing the same PROBLEMS once more. Is my luck that bad that I got 2 bad PC's???

I can guarentee that it is not a virus, I take good care of my system and a virus is out of the question so please try to help me find the actualy problem. I don't know what other information I can give, but whatever you need I will tell you. It is very frustrating to me that I spent all my hard earned money on this computer and then it gives me problems like this that I can't even figure out after trying to the best of my ability.Think I found the problem. Just download the Linux version from the official Mincraft site: https://minecraft.net/download - It's just a .jar file so you will just need to run that.

Games that run at 40 fps or more on my dell, such as dont starve or EVE online, run at 15 fps or LESS on my BETTER desktop. This is just a general technique to try to isolate the problem to a certain area. The alternative of just trying one thing at a time is extremely tedious and seldom are results in a faster solution.
That's the best I can offer, unless there is some specific error message or code or other INDICATION that would pinpoint the problem area.

The E-machines EL1333G is not a gaming machine! it was $300 in Wal-Mart in 2010. It has Nvidia integrated graphics.

As for it being "nearly new", well, CPUs don't wear out, so the time it was used from new makes no difference.


I believe the Dell D230 had an option for a dedicated video card, which would outperform the integrated graphics in the Emachines. The CPUs available were also pretty good for the time and I wouldn't be surprised to see little or no performance difference going to this new PC.
You're essentially comapring what was a fairly high end laptop with a rather low end desktop, and although the desktop is a few years newer, it's not necessarily faster.

Looks like the install missed some files. Those LINES there with the miss in them, means that a file the system was looking for wasn't found. Try REINSTALLING the game, or locating these files and putting them where they belong.

Even though this was created on 4/1/2014 - will respond to it regarding its nature.

For console games I found that the NES games were all easy with cheat codes and eventually the Game Genie. Playing games without cheats however I dont think I would have beaten Contra without the UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, B, A, Start cheat for 30 lives. There were other titles that I bought up like crazy around 1992 when I worked at KB-Toy Store and was buying up games on sale for like $5 new on close out prices when newer gaming systems caused NES game prices to fall. I'd spend most of my pay checks back then at $3.85 an hour on buying up these NES games.

For NES I think the only game that I beat without cheating was Super Mario Brothers 3. Although the temptation was there to use warp whistles and other tricks. I use to play Mario 3 almost every day through the Winter that I got it for CHRISTMAS. That was such a fun game, but I haven't played it in over 18 years.

For PC Games I found Diablo 2 quite challenging and I never completed it. I beat Diablo 1 twice, although that was a dishonest challenge where I thought out a plan to place health bottles all over the floor in the room before releasing diablo with my bags full of health bottles as well and so I was able to just beat on diablo after throwing the lever and back into a corner with the health bottles all over the floor and pick them up and use them and kill diablo easily. On Diablo 2 however this was a more challenging game, better game play, but much larger maps and dungeons. I got about 3/4 way through Act II of Diablo 2 and then I was introduced to World of Warcraft Beta and I got glued to WoW from then on and never got back to finishing Diablo 2. I did however find that Blizzard added netbook support to Diablo 2, and so I installed it to the Netbook with Intel Atom processor, but played all but maybe 45 minutes of it and then got side tracked back to modern games again. World of Warcraft though is not a beatable game. You simply reach a cap of maximum level and maximum gear from crazy low drop rate drops like 0.02% and it takes months if not years to fully gear a character with bind on pickup ( BoP ) items, especially since Blizzard added lockouts to dungeons so you cant just run them over and over for 12 hours straight, you get like 4 or 5 tries at them and then your locked out for like an hour before you can go back and try another 4 or 5 times, however if you have another dungeon or raid that you need some piece of gear from you can alternate between lock outs.

Currently though I have taken a leave of absence from World of Warcraft. When you get to the end-game content and they have you grind the same stuff over and over, and force you to do these groundhog day movie type DAILIES, and then drop you off at an island called Timeless Isle which lots of stuff makes no sense and they went with the Mario Coin System for EVERYTHING!!! Such as you find a vein of metal to mine and in addition to the ore that you get from mining you are also pulling coins out of the rock that you just hammered, to stealing what should be eggs from a cranes nest and instead you are getting 3 coins and then mauled by 5 x level 90 birds that want to kill you, to killing animals that also give coins. Its just clearly retarded! And best of all you need like 50,000 coins to get a piece of gear so they basically threw all these end-game players to this island to grind low coin drop rate kills, nest theft, and maybe 150 coins from a hidden chest, etc. The only fun thing on the island is the drops from rare spawns. Some of them have some really neat abilities. Only drawback though is that with anything that is cool added to the game, it makes one wonder how long it will be before blizzard decides to degrade a special ability or totally remove it. Sometimes if you looted it before it became obsolete your grandfathered and you get to keep it like the Arcanite Ripper Guitar Axe, and the Furbolg Rod of Transformation, while other items they killed off and removed the cool abilities or benefits of the ITEM likely because someone exploited it in PvP etc.
