I recently got halo 2 for vista the other week, thing is that I talked with one of the guys at Best Buy an said that I should be able too RUN it on XP. Cause that is the unit I want too install it on too. The thing is that I get this message The process entry point CreatePorcessWithTokenW could not be located in the dynamic link library ADVAPI32.dll. Halo 2 doesn't work with XP.Im aware of that. I'm going to make some assumptions based on the specs listed in your profile since you didn't bother to mention what your specs are. Considering Halo 2 is a Vista game, the 3100 is an integrated chipset that shares system memory, and you've got 2GB of memory, you're probably barely meeting the minimum system requirements for memory, let alone the recommended.

What is your definition of "other extreme games"? We're not psychic. You're gonna have to try harder.

Ditto. There are programs that can slow down the processor, but that isn't what you need here. That would simply make your already bad situation a lot worse.

By that definition, all "extreme games" are relative. By comparison to Atari 2600 Pac-Man, for example, Super Mario Bros. 3 could be called an "Extreme game". I think a far better term to use would be a resource-demanding game. "Extreme" basically means the furthest or highest extent of something, so saying "extreme game" is sort of meaningless, unless there is a lot of information the reader is supposed to infer (in your case, Extremely resource demanding, as opposed to extremely boring or extremely repetitive).

Hi, I have a "iiyama LCD monitor" and wanted to know if the refresh rate EFFECTS games. The refresh is currently set at 60 hertz, but do I need to have it set HIGHER and what gains would I get by doing this? I think I can get it set at 75 hertz but I have to lower my resolution on my desktop.Actually, refresh rate has little to no effect on an LCD monitor. I'm sure you can find that reported in any number of documents available online about the SUBJECT. I am not one to normaly play world of warcraft but i have already got bored of starcraft 2(sort of will play sometimes). Anyway i was given the first game and the 2 expainsions for it and i have installed the first one on my windows 7 pc. I have been trying to install the next one which is burning crusade but it says that they are incompatable... I have found out that the original wow is in the language set of English(GB) and the burning crusade is in English(US). How can i get around this so i can install the expansion??
Is it possible to change the one installed on my pc to be english(US)??

Tan_ZaNot if the key you have is for a non-US version. You will need to purchase a US version of the game. You can do this through the US version's website if you can't find it in stores, as they usually only have the World of Warcraft Battlechest now and not always the single original game.

The different regional servers are not necessarily on the same patch anyway. Sometimes the US and EU versions are at slightly different points, making patched versions for one incompatible with others. China is just now getting Wrath of the Lich King and I'm not sure where Korea is. CURIOUS, why someone would give you a MIXED set of games?

Recently I've been experiencing crashes while play games. This mostly only happens after I've been playing for a really long time. The game stalls and then completely freezes and I cant do ANYTHING. Last night it happened, and then I got a blank black screen and couldn't do anything, but the computer was still running. I restarted immediately, and it froze during boot-up. I shut it down and then waited a few minutes to restart again, and this time I got past boot-up but got a message "Overclocking Failed!" (im not overclocking...) It then froze at this point. So I shut down and then waited a few HOURS, and rebooted again, and it booted up fine. All this SEEMS to point to a heat issue but ive been checking my temperatures and they never get above 50C.... any ideas what might be the problem?Well Bootzy, I have no idea why your computer gave you those messages, but I DO know that some games crash becuase of add-ons..... Scanned for viruses?Well, it actually only happens while playing world of warcraft. it never happens any other time. I checked on their technical support forum and found that many people are having the same issue, so I assume its something to do with the game. I have a 3.2ghz p4 with 1024mb ram, geforce 5900 xt video card...i DONT have any problems playing games with heavier graphics like ut2004, and my temps never get above 50c, all fans are working, checked all of them. many people have mentioned it being related to heat though, but i just dont see how that can be when i can play other games at higher temps without a problem.In that case, check for a game patch and contact the game developer.hi when i play my game all the time it eather shuts off or my computer restarts.its been doing this scince i got the game can you please help ma?

i seem to have problem with my games. After a bit of PLAYING them, the game, and the rest of the screen go wierd. Here is a screenshot:



The computer doesn't seem to notice (i can do normal stuff, but the screen is like that) and when i restart, it goes away. It's not the monitor, since the onscreen menu for the monitor is normal when it appears. But it is really annoying since it screws up the game, and noone seems able to help me. Any ideas?Well.... And for some strange reason, it doesn't happen on steam games, i.e Half Life 2, CS:S, ETC. but on all the other games. (except the source mod Garrysmod).i installed the drivers. Before you say these might ont be compatible, Q3 and TA worked before. Now that i think opf it, it started when i installed GarrysMod. I'll see what happens if i uninstall it...

According to Microsoft, the emulator is ok, but only if the games played with it are legal originals and not copies of an original or ripped ROMs of an original.

I'd obtain permission from the developers of the game to do what you WANT to do, ALSO i am not familiar with this game title, but you may also need to have access to its source code to be able to alter it to make it multiplayer across platforms like you mentioned. For the past while several of my games have gone insane on me. They display double images, sometimes two or three which ghost over each other and makes them ESSENTIALLY unplayable. These are all games that worked on my computer before. I've tried everything I could think of short of reformatting my computer. I've tried:

Running virus scans
Scandisk
Defrag
Asking my mom to buy me a new one
Asking RANDOM people on the street to buy me a new computer
Reinstalling the games
Reinstalling the video drivers
Uninstalling EVERYTHING I COULD
Reinstalling everything I uninstalled
Screaming nasty words at my computer (I felt better after this one, but the games still don't work)

Somehow uninstalling and reinstalling all these files corrupted some system files dealing with IP protocols, killing my internet connection. I eventually got that fixed at least, but then even more games started to go myopic.

The games that I've found that have started doing this so far are:

Dragon Throne
Robin Hood: Legend of Sherwood
Sudden Strike
Sudden Strike II
Alien vs Predator
and
Romance of the Three Kingdoms 3

I'm running a 700Mhz Comaq computer that's probably just tryng to tell me to let it die. My video card is the only new PART in the machine (everything else is 5 years old or so) and it's an nVidia GeForceFX somethingorother. If SOMEONE could think of a WAY to fix this it'd be appreciated.

???I have played Roller Coaster Tycoon on my PC for a few weeks now and it has run just fine. Today I go into the game and the screen is stuck. It opens the park, but the mouse will not make the screen scroll. What HAPPENED?NEVERMIND. I figured it out. The PROBLEM was taken care of by a menu item under options. I feel really silly.ok. Whenever I install half-life 2 it will install but then when I go to play I get the following message:

And then it closes down. It always happens when steam is updating I think.

[glb]flame[/glb]Turns out that when you install HL2 it comes with a version of Steam which then goes online and checks for an update of itself. If it finds a new version it downloads it installs it and deletes itself. It turns out there was spyware/adware/malware that wasnt letting the new version install or something like that. After running spysweeper adware and spybot three times each I got it to work.hey, im having problems with my video card and im just trying to get some help. the problem has been happening with half life two, but it has also happened in onther 3D games. ill be playing the game and all of a sudden the screen will go black and the moniter reponds no signal. nvidia, the makers of my card, say that it is due to refresh rate, so i changed my refresh to 60hz as sugested. this didnt help. i was wondering if anyone knew another solution. maybe the resolution of the game itself, could it be my moniter? any suggestions that could help me would be greatly appriciated because i just want to play this game... it is awesome. thanks

[glb]Flame[/glb]my video card is a nvidia geforce 5600 with 256. im almost positive my comp can handle it, its a pentium 4, 2._ ghz. its a vaio machine if that makes a difference. the drivers are all installed properly, i actually took it to a computer shop and had them install everything. everything is up to date, they cant seem to find the problem EITHER. ive been told that it could be heat, but the fan works on the card and in the machine. temp isnt overly high either. any other ideas. finally, if not, what videocard to you suggest replacing this ONE with. im currently trying to play world of warcraft and half life 2. thanks.

Whenever I play any game, the computer all of a sudden RESTARTS in the middle of it. Sometimes it just boots up and sometimes it freezes with colored lines across it and i have to manually shut it off. It STARTED doing this a couple months ago and I tried getting all the drivers updated but it did nothing... heres some specs.

Okay I got both of these games for x-mas, and ive had nuttin but trouble. First off, I have a Dell Insspiron 5100, 2.4GHZ P4, 512MB SDDRAM, 40GB HD, Mobility RADEON 7500. I installed both games. Doom 3 ran good. Half Life 2 ran, but none of the characters displayed any graphics at all. they were just black blobs. I checked all my system properties and my drivers were 2 years old. I updated my drivers from dell, and the graphics got much better, but still sucked. I then found a Mod for my card that WOULD allow me to run CATALYST 4.12. The graphics for HALF LIFE 2 are awesome, HALO is awesome, but when i run DOOM3 (which ran good before) It runs like a slide show. I have done disk clean, ive dafragmented, i have the latest graphics driver, all my 3D SETTING are set to performance mode, I just cant figure this out. My driver for my cd rom (SAMSUNG SN-324B) is two years old, but i cant find any drivers for this model. ALright GUYS and gals.........theres my brain bender. Can anyone help?Well, what kind of video card do you have? Does it meet the requirements of BOTH video cards?

[glb]Flame[/glb]I have a mobility Radeon 7500. its a directx7 card, but i have directx9 installed. and yes, it meats the criteria for both games. and it worked well with Doom3 before ii installed the newer catalyst drivers.Well, that might be your problem right there.... If you have a direct X 7 card, then I'm not so sure that upgrading to Direct X 9 was such a good idea...

I've used DirectX 9 on a DirectX 7 card before I think...

2: What has a screensaver got to do with games? Can you please post in the right place?
3: Most screensavers come with an uninstall option. Check either the Start MENU, the Add/Remove Programs DIALOG in the Control PANEL, or in the directory it was installed in.

If you can't find them, try re-installing the screensaver to get the uninstall options backTo recover, click start -> accessories-> system tools -> system restore . After that, just follow the instructions....

*** NOTE: Make sure that you CHOOSE the day before you uninstaled the screensaver ***

Open this file in notepad and tell us its contents. I will tell you which lines to remove.

hey guys, i just reinstalled xp pro on my laptop which previously had no PROBLEM running my games. after reinstalling all my drivers and games i tried running them...each one fails at some point during the BEGINNING of it. it does seem to be mostly with gameGive us more of your system specs.... (Memory, ETC.) This information will help us make a proper DIAGNOSIS... Also, have you checked with the manufacturer of the game(s)?

I need to make a backup of my daughters SIMS 2 game. She has downloaded A LOT of stuff (SKINS,lots,houses,etc.) from the net. Can I make a backup of her game with everything that she has added to it? If so, How do I go about doing that? I have Nero Express, Nero Backitup and NeroVision Express 2 SE. Will a CD have enough space or do I need a DVD? In my add/remove programs in the control panel, it says that the size of the SIMS 2 game is 2,807.00MB.
How do I go about installing it after I get it onto disk? Will it run and install LIKE a regular install disk when I put it into the computer?
I'm planning on doing a complete restore on my computer using the DVD restore disk it came with, that's why I need to copy her game with all the add-ons she's made. I'm very computer illiterate too, in case you didn't already know, so, I'm so very sorry for all the stupid questions. Thanks so much.
StephanieI doubt that you'll need all that much space - you might even be able to get it into a floppy (THOUGH a regular CD is probably a SAFE bet).

I can't give you any specific advice on The Sims 2 (because I don't have it, and wouldn't buy it), but most games store the savegames and modifications into seperate files and folders. You're best bet is to look into the directory you installed the game into.

The files and/or folders in question are usually sensibly named, so finding them shouldn't be all that difficult. Copy these onto the CD/DVD you want to use and whenever you need back-up the files, just copy the files into the appropriate place and the game will SORT the rest out.

iam running Microsoft window home edition and iam trying to install a game i have CALLED " independence war" made by ocean in 1998, the game would run on my older windown 98 computer. when i try to install i get a error pop up saying
" C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/AUTOEXEC.NT.
This system file is not suitable for running ms-dos, and windows aplications."

i can click on two buttons " Ignore,cancel" but no matter wich one i click on it just stope the instalation.

It doesn't matter either way though. If you are running the LATTER, try running the game in Compatibility Mode to mimic Windows 9x. If it's the former then I'm afraid you're going to have to go BACK to 98 (2000 is actually a version of NT, designed mainly for businesses and doesn't run games - well, most of the time)

The save function doesn't offer the capability of naming games, etc.Never played that particular Half-Life but I find it odd it doesn't let you name your games. One work around could be to go into the game's directory and cut and paste your save games out into another folder and keep swapping them like this. It's a bit of a mess around though.Some games allow you to save using a different name, some don't. Just WRITE down what savegame belongs to you and CONTINUE gaming.

HELP ME!!!!!!Firstly, I don't think that voice activation is enabled by default on most machines, so try using the keyboard and mouse to enter commands rather than shouting at the computer.

Secondly, you haven't told us what game it is. Find out and while you're at it, tell us what OS you are using. Then post both BITS of information here or, better yet, search Google yourself to see if ANYONE else is having this problem

I had installed and played Call of Duty on my computer 10 or so months ago. I have since uninstalled it and reinstalled it, but I can no LONGER run it in windows xp pro. When I go to run the game, it says that the exe file is not a "win32 file"!!!! Can someone please help?

NMWFirst, try UNINSTALLING Call of Duty completely, including DELETING the game folder in c:/program files..

If that doesn't work, try to update the game, a LOT of times the developers come out with patches for many system errors..Sounds like there is probably a few currupted files that stayed in the computer after uninstallation, and they are blocking you from installing again...... Patches from the internet are always useful..... Ya see, these game companies ALWAYS LEAVE a few files behind on your computer for reasons beyond my knowledge. That might be your problem.....

My COMPUTER's fan suddenly starts MOVING so fast, it makes loud noises, as if it is being use to its maximum and suddenly stops, when I play any type of game, EVEN PACMAN or warcraft its the same. I've got Rome: Total War and VAMPIRE: The Masquerade on my computer upstairs, (which is not connected to the internet, hence eliminating spyware possibilities), and my system outdoes their recommended requirements. I've got a radeon(i think) 5600 video card that I purchased along with the computer in mid-2003. It was the most EXPENSIVE vid-card available so I know it's not that. But my games still glitch when I max out rome's graphics and vamp just glitches in general. (The games will momentarily freeze and then continue PLAYING) Any help with maximizing my system configuration to play the games WITHOUT glitches would be well appreciated.More system specifications required.

Ok, for a LOT of people, they buy Sim City 2000, or another edition, and save games. If you thinking of installing Sim City 4, DELETE your saved games. They CAUSE tons of problems. I had SimCity 2000, saved a few games, uninstalled 2000, and put SimCity4 on, and my game would not start. It stopped responding. I had to delete all of the saved games and objects left over, and then it would work. Hey, just a friendly warning for all of those who have these games!

When I am playing COD single/multiplayer, I occasionally and sometimes often get these triangle looking things on the screen. Is that a problem with the video card? I have a Dell Inspiron 8200 and am using NVidia GeForce card. I tried uninstalling and reloading COD...updating video drivers...and it still does it. I recently got the new COD United Offensive and it does it too, hence I think my computer is the problem. Anyone got any ideas on how to fix this? i was installing CD ROMS just fine yesterday and now it wont EVEN read my games its says "please insert correct CD-ROM, select OK and restart application" someone please helpReinstall the game.

Strange thing happened on the way to the golf game.
I have played this same game the 2004 version for a year now on this puter. Now I have the 2005 version which has the same system requirments as the okd one. However I cannot start the game I get an error message that says Display Memory not enough. The requirment is for 16mb video card and is the same as 2004 which as I SAID I still play??

There's more to videocards than just the amount of memory.Did you hav any saved games from the old version? If so, they are INSIDE, messing with your new files... If you delete them, things will RUN more smoothly...

the mouse and the keyboard that are acting in a wierd everytime i play CounterStrike 1.3....the problem is a delay in the reaction after
i press a CERTAIN button(e.g. when i turn left ,the player
turns left but after 1 SECOND later )...the game,however,
return to its NORMAL state where the is no delay but this
only lasts for some time because the delay rehappens
after a while....i have changed the VEDIO mode in CS
configuration menu so that it becomes OpenGL instead of Direct 3D,but this didn't help...!!

I have a old game called Battle Chess and I used to install it on my older computers with no problem I have a dell 8200 Dimension 1.8 gig/512 memory.OS windows XP with sp2 and i decided to install and use the game ,the game has music with it and sound effects from the game pieces. When I install it on the 8200 it installs ok ,I have the sound of the pieces(King&AMP;Queen .etc) but no music. The Company that created it is interplay but i cannot seem to locate them ,I THOUGHT an upgrade or a patch might help. Maybe some one in the group might have an experience with this Battle Chess, Its a great Game Kind of tough to learn to play but its fun if you can get all the fuctions to workHasn't Interplay gone bankrupt not too long ago?

The game may not work properly on Windows XP because it does not support older games. Your soundcard may not be supported by the game. Have you tried running it in compatability mode?I have the Amiga version of Battle Chess but that did not have any music. If you're GOT such an old game working on XP, I'd feel lucky to get that far! The music will probably be down to incompatible MIDI drivers. You can try http://www.ece.mcgill.ca/~vromas/vdmsound/ for help getting sound and music working... or the game may refuse to run at all with it, so use it at your own risk. If you're trying to get such old games working and they have other console versions, I'd try emulating them with eg an Amiga emulator. It's a lot easier than messing around with DOS. In some cases it's actually legal (you owned the origanal blah).You can also create a dualboot with a pre-Windows XP OS.http://dosbox.sourceforge.net
