Solve : games damage?

Answer»

Hi, im new to this computer thing, i wonder if you can enlighten me? my daughter has just bought the sims2 it plays ok on my computer , my question is do these games cause any damage or problems on the computer? the reason i am asking is when she is finished playing games it seems to be RUNNING SLOWER. Ive banned her from this computer until i find out one way or another, all the so called experts say yes and no, its all very confusing. thanksCan you give me your system specs. please? I am interested in your hard disk capacity, RAM, operating system, and in your video card...

[glb]Flame[/glb]Damage to the computer, probably not. Take up space on your hard drive, and use resources yes. Your computer might be running slower because it doesnt meet CERTAIN requirements. Same thing being asked..../\ /\ /\sorry about this, how do i find that out?please stick with me im slowly picking things up. cheersIf you go to Start > Run > type "dxdiag" without the quotes you'll get loads of info about your machine. You simply check these against the specifications on the back of the box.

Even if these specs match or ar bettered by your machine, you'll still find the PC will run slower - that's just life, get on with it. It is certainly not, however, doing any significant physical damage to the PC itself (at least, it won't do anything noticable before your PC goes beyond OBSOLETE)

My only concern is with your kids' taste in games... Hi, thanks again. just had a look see if this makes any sense, xp home(5.1 build 2600)xp2400+mmx 3d now 2.0ghz. 224 mb ram memory directx 9.0. the box reads_ xp, processor 800mhz, 256mb ram, hard drive3.5gb, sound card direct9.0. do you think this would be ok? she has other games but this looks like it needsmore to play it. thanks againWell.... It sounds like you need more RAM... The box says 256 MB is required, but 384 will perform better... Also, your processor is a little on the slow side, but that may not make much of a difference at this time... Also, your hard disk concerns me... 3.5 GB is not much AT ALL... I'm hoping that you made a typo actually... Are you sure that your hard disk only has 3.5 GB available?

[glb]Flame[/glb]An MMX processor? Hmm... you know, I work in quite a large computer shop. Maybe come visit me

Solve : missing stuff/trails in games?

Answer»

I seem to be missing textures or objects in games. I have the latest drivers for my video card and directx9. I’ve set the nVidia settings in as many different combinations I can think of i.e.- antialiasing & anisotropic from application controlled to 2 or 4, quality, performance vs. quality blah blah blah. Checked agp mode and aperture settings in bios.Specifically, in 007 nightfire any backgrounds like snow or clouds kind of stay on the screen and smear or leave “trails”. If I’m in a room there’s usually no PROBLEM except my gun disappearing from my hands occasionally. With Madden 2005 it plays perfectly with no jitter even at highest settings, my kick meter shows up, but the directional/altitude meter is non-existent. Also, between plays sometimes there are visible PLAYERS on the bench with a CLIPBOARD hovering in the air in their faces I suspect is supposed to have a screaming coach attached to it.In Halo (first one) the environment is there, but there’s no characters at all. I can see laser shots, but not the persons shooting them.In Simpsons Hit and Run it’s totally crazy looking, occasional plants and sidewalk squares, no characters can see car.I ran directx troubleshooter with no problems, BOX spun around and all.Can some one PLEASE tell me what is causing this? Could I have some kind of Windows conflict/problem causing this? I realize I don’t have some badass gaming computer, but it exceeds min. requirements on these games and I have seen them all run on even slower comps. than mine. What are these missing items called and generated or controlled by? Thanks in advance, joot7 !I am running: 1.4gig athlon, winxp, 512ram, GeForce MX 4000 128mb vidDo you know wich version of DirectX you have? maybe all you need is upgrading to 9.0c (last version)

I also had a similar problem and I solved it by removing the DRIVER with driverCleaner:
http://www.drivercleaner.net/
and installing the old driver on the graphic card CD-ROM.

Try contacting nVidia, they probably know what the problem is.

Do you see flickers and lines also? like this (it's a short video):
http://etudiant.tim.cstj.net/2001/9956138/flickers.mov

Cause if so, maybe your motherboard doesn't recognize your nVidia correclty, if so, contact me, we can verifyYou said you ran dxdiag, did you tried to test direct3D and openGL?

Solve : making of a game?

Answer»

hi i am sameer . i am intrested in game programing . i want to know actually on which plateform game are make
please reply.
This is actually a very large topic, but I'll try and give you a rough idea of what it's all about. If you look at the credits you'll see that there is usually a massive team involved, from design though to publishing, but I'll only give a quick intro into what the programming side is all about.

A PC game is, funnily enough, likely to have been written on a PC, usually in a varient of C++ with some extra tools for more specialist areas (graphics, sound etc), and occasionally they'll have to dip into some assembly code (only a few steps up from all those 1's and 0's). The PC itself will probably run Windows XP (seeing as that's what most gamers will be running) but they might run a Linux Distro or - knowing what programmers are LIKE - ten. The PC will likely be the most powerful out there too, so that they can get the best results possible.

For a console, it's slightly DIFFERENT. It'll be a similar situation with the programming languages (C++ and assembly are the norm), but the PC they use will be different. The big console manufacturers sometimes provide developers with what are called "dev kits", and are simply PC's which match the SPECIFICATION of the console and has all the ports for memory cards, control pads and all that stuff. Again, there will probably be some extra, more specialist tools avaliable to them.

If you are serious about all this, I'll give the following advice. First, start buying Edge magazine: it's much better for info on the industry, as well as the games. I would say that the Official magazines are pretty much useless for that sort of information (and in my opinion, the Official Nintendo one is only really suitable for those under the age of three or unable to put coherent sentences together). Secondly, you are going to have to take a more critical look at the games - read up on the development process and think "hmm, I wonder how they got that idea", rather than "hey, that's cool!"

Thirdly, start learning C++. It's horrid, I know, but you'll need it. And while you're at it, install Linux, grow a beard, adopt a penguin and start ingesting copious AMOUNTS of pizza and coffee, and then get aquanted with your keyboard: you'll land up sleeping on it after spending hours pouring over source code to find the one rogue comma is preventing the game from running.hey shailesh! so, you're intersted in game programming?

That's what I do, and I love it! As Corrosive said, Games are made in C++ mostly, that's for games made for the PC, X-Box, GameCude, PS2, etc. A couple of critical parts of the programming are made in assembly (terribly complicated LANGUAGE hehe) but I'd say you should learn C++ as Corrosive said, it wont be too hard if you already programmed.

As fisrt steps, follow this link to the gamedev website (an EXCELLENT game programming website, for C++, openGL, etc.:
http://www.gamedev.net/reference/start_here/
I'm pretty sure It has the answers to all your questions, that's where I began myself

Solve : ALL COMPUTER GAMES FREEZE?

Answer»

Please help!!

Recently installed a new motherboard into my Compaq computer and now every SINGLE game i try to play, it will go for a couple of minutes and then freeze, locks the computer completely up and i have to then shut down.

Any ideas? been dealing with this for a while now.

ThanksIs your computer compatible with the new motherboard? It sounds to me LIKE an overheating issue... Check out your power supply.... Also check to make SURE that your video card supports that motherboard....

[glb]Flame[/glb]I agree with Flame, something is over-heating on your motherboard. That, of course, if you talk about 3D games and not about Solitaire & Co. Yep, I agree, I had the very same problem and it was because my CPU fan was jammed with dust so after a while, the CPU overheated and everything jammed. Try looking if all the fans are rotating PROPERLY when you start your computer.

You can also go there: http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/
it's a CALCULATOR to know how much power you should need

By the way, does it only happens in games? try that

I just dont understand. I have installed other sim game without any problems But this is a nightmare,I bought it at christamas and havent palyed it yet. This must be a compatibility issue... I want to know about your video card... What kind is it? Also, how much memory is installed on the video card? (ex. 32MB, 80MB, etc.)

[glb]Flame[/glb]Hi i dont know about video card. I do have 512mb.It also has a graphics card but this was in when i bought it from currys it says intel extreme graphics. Someone its installed it just switches itself off when you try to play it.Well then, we'll just have to find out... Do this... Click on Start -> Run ... In the run box, type dxdiag ... Now, you might see a rather small dialogue box... Just click no... Now, you will see a large dialogue box... Click on the display tab, and look at the top-left of the box... It will say manufacturer info... Tell me what information you see...

[glb]Flame[/glb]Hi do you know of any site that sells these at ressonable prices? And what do i ask for when PURCHASING one. knind regards maggieI would suggest CompUSA http://www.compusa.com , or BestBuy http://www.bestbuy.com , or even PCWorld http://www.pcworld.com ... Use the STORE locator to find a store near you, or you can order online... Happy shopping!

[glb]Flame[/glb]Flame, she mentioned Currys which is a large chain in the UK for general electronics. Leave her to me...

maggiemay46, I actually work for PC World (who are owned by Dixon Group, the same guys who own Currys) and I will say that it's worse; you do not have a 64MB graphics card - you don't have one at all.

It's a slightly confusing euphamism which actually means that the processor handles the graphics work, which to all intents and purposes means it is useless for games. If you are looking for a PC, steer clear of anything that says "Integrated Graphics". Beyond that, it's a matter of getting something with lots and lots of big numbers.

Although it may sound a bit like I'm biased here, your best bet would be to come to PC World (or order at www.pcworld.co.uk). As the name suggests, we sell PC's and little else, so we are more experienced in this field and also have more services specific to PC's. Currys also deal in cookers, televisions, freezers... go figure.Quote

Flame, she mentioned Currys which is a large chain in the UK for general electronics. Leave her to me...

Well, consider it left!

Solve : downloaded a game cant get 2 work?

Answer»

Hi there my problem is that i dawnloaded a game and i dont know how to get it to work i have 2 bin files, a Cue file and a MSinfo document

and i dont have a clue what to do??? I need more information! I need your amount of RAM, Game type (name), Operating System, and your video and sound card information...

[glb]Flame[/glb]the game is called The.settles.Heritage.of.king
my computer is pentium111 - windows xp -256 mbRam -
and a ATI 3D Rage PRO 2X .

thats all i know. What does the game require? Does your computer match or beat the requirements?

[glb]Flame[/glb]I can't find the requiremants for the game.
I downloaded it from share provider
it just tells me about what the game is like to play
then it says - 1. Unrar
2. Burn or Mount the image with deamon tools
3. Install the game
4. COPY over cracked executable LOCATED in the/crack directory on cd1
5. Play the game

and i dont know what all this means or what to do?Go to the game website and find out what you need to run it.

You've been told what to do by the providers of the download. What stage are you stuck on?found the web site but can't find the page that gives the requirements for this gameHere's my recommendation.

1) Turn off your computer.
2) Go watch some t.v.And thirdly, go out and buy the game, instead of downloading it from a P2P network. Cheapskate. Now now Corrosive. If people don't branch out and download illegal software (for testing purposes only of course) then we'll never see them in the viruses section asking how to remove Kazaa. It brightens my day so to see "I've downloaded a game and now my computer doesn't work".I'm a fan of "HELP! I downloaded Kazaa and now my system won't boot!" myself... lol

[glb]Flame[/glb]AFTER downloading a file or two of course...

[glb]Flame[/glb]Good point Joleen. But do REMEMBER that by downloading it he may be damaging the chances of me getting a career in the future (I want to be a games programmer) and is currently damaging my current industry...

Which reminds me, it's time for me to plug... THE SETTLERS: HERITAGE OF KINGS - ONLY £24.99!!!

Solve : GTA San Andreas texture issues?

Answer»

I've installed 2 mods, one that replaces all the cars in the game to high poly real cars and a mod that retextures most of the surfaces in the game with higher resolution ones. The problem is, now the textures randomly change to the really low res versions used when they are viewed from far away. It gets really annoying because this strips down the detail so that I can't see poles and stuff and keep crashing into them. I think the issue is that the game has some kind of memory limit by default which isnt letting enough textures load into memory when I'm playing since they are now bigger. I got the SA limit adjuster but I'm not sure which VALUES to change, does anyone know?Is that not what is supposed to happen when you are traveling at speed, loading the textures and scenery?Yeah that's what I'm talking about, it happens on the PS2 version when you drive or fly fast because it can't read the data off the disc fast enough, but the problem is for me it does that all the time. What also tends to happen is it displays the high resolution stuff and then randomly switches to low res. Sometimes objects dissapear entirely, for example the bridge that goes over grove street will completely dissapear and the cars driving over it will float in the air. Sometimes even the texture for the ground will completely dissapear and it will be clear.Could it be because of the mod?Quote from: Soviet Genius on September 10, 2008, 03:16:29 PM

Yeah, it's because of the mods, but I think this is happening because originally the game has a size limit for the cache of textures and models which is no longer large enough because the textures are higher resolution and therefore bigger. I was wondering if this can be fixed with the SA limit adjuster, but I don't know which settings to change...Not sure (I don't have GTA SA for the computer anymore) but wouldn't it depend on your RAM, VRAM and/or Processing Power?Quote from: Soviet Genius on September 11, 2008, 04:06:18 PM

Thank you for replying to a month-old topic with SPAM. *sigh*i had the same problem.
The problems comes when you modify this game especially when replace texture with high quality ones.

GTA SA is not supported by high resolution texture, original GTA SA as just low poly textures, even radeon 9200 can handle it very GOOD. When I modified GTA SA with a dozen high resolution textures for vehicles…boom! The ENVIRONMENT textures is missing.

theres a mod called stream fix which fixes the issue perfectly.Honestly I think it's silly to retexture any game less then about 10 years old. It's like "darn, this game RUNS really good. Hmm, how can I make the FPS go down the crapper? I know! I'll load a gigabyte worth of textures!"
Sorry buddy, -500 points to you. 3 week old topic.
I would have taken away a thousand points but I liked your point.

Any error messages?I was playing the game - they upgraded and now my mouse won't work with it - it is Partypoker.comWhat surface is the mouse on and what type of mouse is it? (laser/wireless ect...)

Also, what do you mean by 'they upgraded'?The mouse is on a mouse pad - it is not wireless - like I said before - never had problems - They upgrade their site every once in a whildOk....how does the mouse not work?

I've never been to that site so I don't know how it works.

If it's a flash-based site or it uses Java, you will have to click into the window for the mouse to work in the game, but that might not be the problem.

Exactly what is the problem....Okay, I have a question of my own (which leads to others)...

Is the mouse acting up constantly, or ONLY after you log into the game?

If it's happening constantly...
Is the mouse OPTICAL or does it use a ball?
Have you tried testing another mouse?

If it's only happening after logging in...
Have you tried updating your Java and Flash? What about your video card drivers?
Have you contacted the game's support team?
Can you play an older version of the game?

Solve : Is anyone complete 8 times biohazard 4??

Answer»

Hi
I completed biohazard 4, in 4 times. 2 times in normal mode and 2 times in PRO mode. I wanna know that if I will complete it anymore, is any blocked items to will unblock?
I completed resident evil 3 in 8 times (With PS1), and after it movies in the game was changed. and now wanna to know that if I complete 8 times resident evil 4 (biohazard 4), will any change in the game?
Do you have google, there's load of stuff out therekind of off-topic but I know that completing(getting 96*) super mario world 8 times in a row doesn't gain you anything aside from a headache and an innate urge to jump over 10 times your height without flinching, usually resulting in a broken pelvis or pulled hamstring.

Anyway; as reddevil pointed out, there are a multitude of sites, I'm sure, dedicated to the subject of biohazard 4; I suggest a FAQ/guide, which will hopefully contain the information you seek, as well as various other tidbits that would interest you.
It's probably non of my business but, why not find a site giving you information on what can be unlocked first and go about it that way, instead of completing a game 5, 6, 7 times for no apparent reason. What I usually do is complete a game on normal then on hard and then find out all the locked items/bonuses etc and try to open and complete every possible thing in the game. Not everybodies cup of tea, i know but that's how i get my kicks.

I know completing a game multiple times is fun (Shadowman about 6 times) but if you want to unlock stuff you can save a lot of time by focusing on the tasks, instead of completing games in the hope something will change.heh, most of the games I play have have everything pretty much uncovered; at least half of them have had source code released into the GPL. Doom, Quake, Quake 2, Duke Nukem, etc.

For some reason I can no longer play them on easy skill. I have to play the quakes on Nightmare, Doom on ultra-violence (nightmare is a... well a nightmare) and duke on *censored* I'm good; strange how I can cope with respawning enemies in Duke but not Doom.

And I understand the "completing everything in the game" notion; still working on getting to level ** with my CHARACTERS in chrono trigger, for example.

The only gameplay style I detest is the "BUY game, look up cheats, use cheats, beat game" method.

Yeah, A FRIEND of mine named Jess (yes, i've named and shamed him) buys the walk through WITH THE GAME. Goes home, completes the game WITH THE WALKTHROUGH then says 'Yeah, i've completed Medal of Honor.

NO YOU HAVE NOT you cheating little s**t

Yeah, it wind's me up to. Especially with the price of games. What is the point. I've told him he should just buy the walkthrough and learn it. It's the same thing.exactly; take doom secrets- it feels so much more "exciting" to find them without external assistance, and I found a few completely accidentally; same with quake and so forth; then when I was REALLY into each game, I would then find an appropriate FAQ/guide, since at this point I will have PLAYED the game through a fair number of times; reading the guide often initiates me to start another one using my newfound techniques.

Using one on a first playthrough is pretty much just interactive fiction; except for a few games, I don't think I've ever read a guide or FAQ before I had beaten the game.
Yep, nothing better than knowing that it took 373 people to create a game, a giant corporation to make the game, millions of pounds/dollars to distribute and advertise the game and I completed it in 35 hours. COOL!

Solve : technical question?

Answer»

My question is regarding the general use of graphics CARDS. If a graphics card does not have enough video RAM when playing a game, does it utilize the RAM on the motherboard to compensate, or use the page file on the hard drive, like virtual memory?I believe will use system RAM as a sort of paging file, in the same way that when system RAM is used up, the hard drive's paging file is used.Correct me if i'm wrong, but data being PROCESSED by the Video Card will be temporarily stored in the Video Card's memory.
When the data is being used for an application or program, it is stored in the RAM.
If the data is being used, but no very often, it will be in the computers Virtual Memory.I took the question to mean TEXTURES and objects within the game, which are stored within the video card's onboard memory.
So, if the card has 512MB of VRAM, and the BUFFER fills up with objects and the game NEEDS to load some more textures, what happens then?
As far as I am aware, the files are loaded form system RAM into the VRAM, which is one of the causes of stuttering in some games.
I could be wrong though, I'm no expert.

Solve : CoD 4?

Answer»

Ok, I have CoD4 for my PC and everything on it works perfectly, but when I go to refresh the server list in MP, about 25 seconds after that my internet just stops. My router and MODEM both STILL have the correct lights on. I can connect to a CoD4 MP server and play as much as I want, it just seems like the Refresh button jacks it up. Any ideas why and how to fix it?
Thanks. So the refresh button in the game screws the game up?

If so, what exactly happens when you click Refresh? Internet disconnects, that's it?WELL like I said, everything works fine, then I click on Refresh, SERVERS come up, I can click it 2-3 times but then my internet just seems to freeze. My xfire logs off, internet explorer cant connect, and Call of Duty cant find any servers. My laptop can still use the wifi though.
And I posted twice because nobody answered the first time...My apologies for not replying sooner. Things have been very busy for me.

Anyways, since over a week, how is it? Problem still there?

If so, have you tried reinstalling Call of Duty 4?Problem is still there and yes I have reinstalled.

HI everyone from melbourne, Australia. Anyway the situation is l bought the CLASSIC sierra adventure games for windows xp about a year ago, i.e. kings quest collection, police quest, leisure suit larry etc. I've always ENJOYED these games, since l played them many years ago. Anyway the problem i'm having is that l can't save my games on kings quest 5, kings quest 1-4 were fine, and i have only just started playing kings quest 5, it basically sais that my saved games directory is full, and l have to save it somewhere else, and l have no clue of what to do, im AVERAGE at computers, and there seems to be not much information on the problem i'm having on google. If anyone has any solutions/suggestions l would be very grateful.

Some info on my system is that its a hp laptop, i'm using firefox, and windows vista business (don't know if any of that helps).

STAY well all
ciao
aaron

p.s. just WANT to say l appreciate the free helpI had the same issue with one of the Space Quest games out of a similar one of their collections.

What they've done with these collections is rigged them to work with an included version of DOSBox, a DOS emulator for Windows. At the time of release, DOSBox was still in beta stages, and therefore is prone to the occasional bug.

The first time I had this problem, the game was installed on my D: drive. I gave up on it then, and a few months later, tried it again, but installed it on my C: drive and it worked fine. Not sure if this helps you any.

Solve : CIV IV Beyond the Sword Super Slow Game Play - what am I doing wrong?

Answer»

I hope someone can help...I don't know a lot about computers, I just know that something isn't quite right!

About 4 months ago, I got a new laptop and just recently got around to installing CIV IV Beyond the Sword on it, something I've played a million times and without any problem on my old dinosaur of a laptop. It won't play right on my new one!!!

I have an HP Pavilion dv2700 Notebook with that 64 bit Vista that they talked me into at Best Buy. My processor is the AMD Turion 64x2 TL-60 2.00 GHZ, 4 GB RAM and a Nvidia 64mb graphics card.

I searched through the message boards and found a link to that Can You Run It? website, which I tried and it tells me that I meet both the minimum and recommended requirements to play this game. Why am I having trouble?

I would greatly appreciate any advice, dumbed down for the computer illiterate.

Thanks!

Crissy
Uh...no. You don't meet the recommended.

# Windows 2000 (SP1 or higher), Windows XP (SP1 or higher), Windows Vista
# 1.2 GHz Intel Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon processor equivalent
# 256 MB RAM
# 64 MB video card with hardware T&L (GeForce 2, Radeon 7500 or better)
# DirectX 7 compatible sound card
# 1.7 GB free hard disk space
# DirectX 9.0c (included)

These are the minimum. Laptop graphics are seldom GOOD for heavy gaming...

You have 64 MB video RAM. The game requires 64 MB video RAM. Sounds like minimum to me.Quote

Laptop graphics are seldom good for heavy gaming...
It actually depends on what laptop it is. Some LAPTOPS are designed for heavy gaming, animation, designing, movie making, ect....

I don't understand this though......
2GHz Dual Core Processor, 4GB RAM, yet they only give you 64MB Video RAM?
Something isn't right....

ANYWAYS, even though it may be just hit the game specifications, it should still run nonetheless.

What error message are you getting when you try to run the game?Check your Nvidia control panel (right-click the Nvidia icon in the system tray). Under "3D Settings -> Manage 3D Settings", there should be 2 tabs on the 3D settings, global and program settings. Under global, make sure any option that has "Application Controlled" as an option is set so. Allowing Nvidia (or even ATI cards for that matter) try to force setting unto some programs/games can cause them to slow down dramatically.

For the Nvidia control panel, generally the best option for games to choose is the one in the list with the Nvidia icon next to it.

In program settings, there is a listing for Civ4. You can adjust the default settings the Nvidia control panel chooses specific to Civ4 there.Quote

They're designed to do so within the limitations of a laptop form-factor. So they might be a little better than their non-specialized counterparts, they're still not as good as their desktop counterparts.

Anyhow, that is not a problem here. This guy just wants to run a piece of software. It could even be a graphic card intensive screensaver, as long as the laptop doesn't overheat or has to work harder than it's originally intended to do, you should be fine.

Yes, but if he selected the option, he'll be notified of the new response and might come back to find the solution he was looking for. 2 weeks isn't all that long, especially when people are busy with real life things and also given the time of year people are probably extra busy.

What the games? No

The DS itself Bassically has an OS on it.Ok, and how do I turn it on? Can I power it via USB?

I found one ALONG the road and it seems to have lost its owner.. If turning it on will help me LOCATE its owner, I'd be kind of thankful. That and I'm kind of CURIOUS to see how it works.

If not, I'll just pin a sign on the tree asking if anyone lost anything expensive lately. Maybe insult their TWO digit IQ while I'm at it, eh?

Check both of these picture if its a DS lite it should be

on the side like this

Regular DS

Should be the button that has a red circle around it

Remember to hold the button down for a few seconds until It comes on.
To turn it off just Hold it down again for a few seconds.

Next a screen like this will popup

Then! just tap the screen and It will give you a screen like this There should be a name on the top screen. Thanks,

It's a "lite" variant and it seems to be out of juice. I probably need a special ADAPTER to charge it eh? Has some type of port on top.. Looks like USB but I don't have any cables like that lying around at the moment.

I'll just go ahead with printing the sign. Hope I don't get a lot of weirdos claiming its theirs...

Solve : Bully Scholarship Edition issues?

Ok, Last weekend I bought Bully Scholarship Edition for the PC. I got home and tried to run it on my laptop. No go because my laptop doesn't have pixel shader 3.0. Then I try to run it on a friends computer that meets all REQUIREMENTS. Now I have an ISSUE with direct x 9.0c.

The error states that the game needs a Dx 9.0c COMPATABLE sound card which the computer has. I've updated the sound drivers, dx drivers, dx itself, reinstalling the game, changing the maxmem, and running a dx DIAGNOSTIC tool.

I'm about out of solutions for this game and I really was looking forward to playing it.

I called rockstar and yelled at them and they TOLD me to do everythign i've already done.

Any suggestions?

Solve : Looking for a cool, free game?

Answer»

I tried to introduce my dad to Call of Duty 2... in his day it was all arrow keys. Have you seen people new to computers trying to type? He PRESSES W a bit, then wants to move back. So he has to scan the whole keyboard looking for the S key, during which time he is getting shot at and killed. It was slightly funny. His computer only has onboard graphics though and so couldn't manage more than about 10fps, so not suprisingly he decided he didn't like the game.Ahh but after a while , it just become second nature , and you start to associate the Letter S With Running From danger ^.^

But the way most games are Layed out today you need to use WSAD because all the the Extra Controls are Placed around those ButtonsI didnt see Anarchy Online if you like rpg this is mmorpg mass multiplayer online rpg big download but i ejoy it best freeware game i ever had. apparently theres two versions google for "free anarchy online"I tried AO before but I just couldn't get into it. There was too much tutorial! Too much text to read, I didn't really know what I was supposed to be doing... and then when it really matters (like where the heck am I!?) there's nothing to help you.ok true but thats my opinion with all games today. Atari had one button and directional... now on a standard game console you have like 20 buttons and THREE directional pads... better grafics and a more liberal gaming invironment do have major drawbacks...
Hey all, read your posts. Just wanted to let you know about a great FREE mmorpg game called LAST CHAOS. It's one of the free AERIA games. There are six types of classes to choose from, (Healer, Sorcerer, Titan, Rogue, Mage, and Knight), and each class gets to choose one of two jobs at level31.
Here's a list of just a few of the things you can do:
1-Smith, upgrade, and enchant weapons and armor
2-Boost skills for spells and abilities
3-Fight monsters in several "worlds" and dungeons
4-Fight other players one-on-one, or in a guildwar
6-Raise dragons and horses to mount and ride, or raise the new "Scra-chi" and "Ichi" pets to fight along side you.
7-Participate many special events held by the Game Masters(GM's), and Game Sages(GS's)
And with the weekly game upgrades, the list is ever-growing.
Best of all, unlike many online multiplayer games, Last Chaos and the other AERIAGAMES games are FREE to download and FREE to play. All you have to do is create an AERIAGAMES profile, and bam, you can download and play any of their games for free.

You must be thinking, "Does he work for AERIA or SOMETHING?".lol Nope, I'm just another gamer trying to share the great game I found while surfing the web for freebies. I've played Last Chaos almost every day on the Caraie server for over a year now, and love it. But don’t take my word for it, check it out for yourself at:
http://lastchaos.aeriagames.com
Like I SAID, it's a free game, so you have nothing to lose but time(which I'm guessing you have, since you've read this far.lol). See you "ingame".

Solve : Solved - "Parental Lock in Max Payne 1"?

Answer»

Anybody knows how to bypass Parental Lock in MP1.
I forgot the password I kept for my little brother.

Well, might you have written it down? I mean, I had the same problem last week when I made my older brother mad by turning parental control on on his computer. The only way he could turn it off was to find the password. So he took it from me!!!! Sorry, don't try to understand my sob story. Just try to think back and remember if you wrote it down. Or retrace your steps.

yuppp

Not sure there is anything you can do. Perhaps contacting the manufactuere?Just reinstall the game... Sometimes the simplest solution is also the best solution, AY raptor? Anyway, if you care about your save data, I'd advise backing it up before re-installing. Just thought I'd throw in a heads up if it isn't too late.Reinstalled..
No luck..Well....Parental Lock is there for a reason....KNOW the reason..
Some graphics are for the 18+ and not for the younger..
But doesn't mind ..
The problems is that I don't GET to enjoy the story because it stops all the novel screens.
Given your age, I don't think your brother put parental lock on there.

But heck, because I'm all for senseless violence and exposing kids to this at as early a stage as possible, here's the solution!

Solve : Video card good enough??

Answer»

My son is trying to run Brothers in Arms, *censored*'s Highway game on our computer but, it's characters are bit jittery, not smooth on our computer. We have a Plug&Play Monitor NVIDIA GeForce 6800 currently RUNNING. Should we get a better card? What kind?
We have ENOUGH RAM (2GB) and we have a 3.19 GHz intel pentium (4) processor.
Thank youShould be all right, here are the requirements for that game:

I'd say you need a CPU upgrade as you don't meet the minimum requirements on that side.
Also, a new video card may be helpful.I'm confused. I thought I had enough CPU with 3.192 GHz?
We have a Dell 4700 dimension.
Thanks.I just found out about a website that checks for game compatibility. It's
www.systemrequirementslab.com It was very helpful in determining that I do have the minimum requirements for the game but, I did need to update the NVIDIA card, which I did (they had direct link).
It's a different type of CPU.
The requirements state a Pentium D as a minimum - a dual core CPU, like two processors. Yours is a plain Pentium 4, not a dual core.
I'm not saying the game will not run, just that as your video card is about at the minimum, it will likely be quite choppy. Is it possible to ADD or replace my current CPU to a dual core? Sound like it might be complicated. Would it be worth it? My son will most likely get a laptop for graduation next June. Perhaps I will wait and make sure it's a dual core.
Thanks everyone.I also have a Dimension 4700 which does have Hyperthreading technology. Mine came with a 2.8 gH 520j P4 with H/T tech. The max for that socket 775 board is a 3.8 gH 570j which I upgraded to. You can go to the P4 6xx series processor with a bios flash. I also have 1 gig ram cards in each of my 4 slots. I hve a ati Radeon HD4850 video card. Your board does support pci express x16. Your processor should be fine. I would upgrade your video card & ram though. I can play Crysis , COD2, UT-3, Gears of war, Halo, and Dead Space , all on high settings 1440x900 resolution. The P4 with H/T acts like a dual core processor.

Hope this helps?FORGOT to mention......You will have to upgrade your power supply to run the video card I'm using. The dimension 4700 power supply comes with a 305 watt psu. I upgraded to a Antec 500 watt psu. You will need a minimum 450 watt psu to run the 4850 video card. With all of these modifications your half way money wise to buying a decent brand new system. Your call?Bottom line is your gonna have to spend $300 to $325 to get that puter up to snuff to be able to play games like Hells highway.Whew! That's a bit too much upgrading for our MACHINE. Thanks 4fingerlid for all that info. I think we'll just wait to get a laptop. Any suggestions as to which laptops can handle such games? Or at least, what I should look for in a laptop.
Thanks.ya you would need a whole new graphics card and cpu which would most likley require a new psu and probably a new motherboard imo i dont think its worth itGaming laptops

however it is still in the Burning Crusade era at patch 2.4.3, but you can FIND others, like toxic WoW at 3.0.3

Carbon's point, exactly. cuz you just lost me in this sentence

Sorry I'll explain.

WoW is like any GAME, and has patches that fix bugs, add items, quests etc.

and some servers require you to have a certain version of WoW to play on their servers.

So I use version 2.4.3, but some people prefer newer patches and so opt to play on servers that use 3.0.3.

Sorry if it is still confusing

Solve : Blue screen of Death with COD4?

I just installed a new cpu COOLER to replace my stock intel one that wasn't working properly.
Now for some reason COD4 gets the BSOD when i try to run it, i reinstalled it to no avail.
I have no idea what's CAUSING this so any help would be great.please tell us what the blue SCREEN saysDid COD4 work before you installed the new cooler?
The new cooler might not be powerful enough to keep your PC from overheating.
I am not saying that your computer is overheating, that might be a problem tho.he is using windows xp if you look under his nameIt's not overheating i know that.
The screen has the usuall- if this is the first time you've SEEN this message....

To repeat what we've all been saying, we are simply not bothered to go searching the three thousand posts if yours looking for your most recent specs. From now on, unless otherwise stated, I'm going to assume his computer is a Commodore 64. I will then provide the simple advice "Try RUN" until the specs are otherwise revealed to NOT be a commodore 64.

Often times, that happens.

I was once told by a former employer that a computer network is like a card house. If you pull the wrong card, the whole thing may come tumbling down.

In other words, sometimes the smallest problems have a large number of factors.

that seems a little far out there. But that kind of scary to think about that HAPPING with out me aware of it.

Computers do a lot of things without people being aware of it. In some cases, that's a bad thing (viruses, malware), in some cases, that's a good thing (I don't need to see all the 1s and 0s when I copy a file). In case of suppressing a Blue Screen of Death, I'm not sure why Microsoft decided to do this. Maybe they though home users would **** their pants after seeing one.

Usually those are "for fun" topics (also known as "SHOW your e-peen"). They don't get stored in some database or anything for people to reference to whenever things go wrong. In a perfect world, it would.

In any case, if you really want to have the info handy for people to reference to without having to repeat yourself, finish filling out your Forum Profile Information under "Computer." So far, you only have "Pentium 4 2.8 GHz" showing up...

Now I can draw a few conclusions just from the CPU, though:

1) Socket 478 motherboard.
2) Northwood or Prescott core
3) DDR1 RAM

Since Socket 478 boards aren't available retail anymore, your best bet would be eBay for a new board.

Otherwise, save your money and put that toward a new build. If you go down this path, you'll have to get, at the very least:
1) New motherboard (of course)
2) New CPU
3) New RAM (DDR2 or DDR3, depending on the board)
4) New video card if you were using an AGP card (Socket 478 boards have AGP slots--new boards have PCI-e for video cards)
5) New power supply if your old one is less than 500W, a generic brand name model, or lacks an EPS12V connector.Quote from: Raptor on December 18, 2008, 11:35:46 AM

Solve : WoW Uninstall Error?

Answer»

Well I followed this websites instructions to play WoW on their servers for free; http://megames.org/world_of_warcraft/wow_guides/how_to_connect.html and it didn't work probably because they told me to DOWNLOAD the trial instead of the full game, anyway the real problem is that I tried uninstalling the WoW trial and it gives me the error "Uninstall.xml could not be read". Any ideas on how to remove this trial?Blizzard indicates on their site if this error is ENCOUNTERED to delete the WoW folder through My Computer to remove this from your computer.Would that be middle earth WoW?

Same server I'm on

Full or Trial, doesn't matter, you just need patch 2.4.3 of WoW
Edit: You want patch 2.4.3 of TBC WoW

If you want help regarding how to get it running just PM meYeah, I deleted WoW folder from the My Programs and then I deleted all the shortcuts and the I went to the registry and deleted the Blizzard Entry, but the trial was still listed in add and remove programs, so then I thought why don't i do a system restore to before I INSTALLED this, so I did that then the shortcuts were still there so I did the same step again followed by a disk clean up and its seems to be uninstalled. Thanks Admin!

To Kurtiskain, Yeah really want to play WoW(and for free!), but I don't really have the time to right now I just followed Middle Earth's instructions to see if they would really work. I plan on getting the full game(though other means ) later and then I'm PM you for support on how to connect, thanks though!
the trial and the full game are the same thing btw the trial just lets you set up a free 12 day WoW blizzard account

(I hope this isn't rule breaking territory here, I'm not telling him how, just what)
make sure you don't get a WotLK Torrent at it won't work on M-E

It must be 2.4.3 TBC to login to the server.

I know that I got mine through a friend who I believe got it through a torrent, which by the way, isn't ILLEGAL I don't think as Blizzard makes all their clients/updates freely available, it's the subscription they make their money off, not the game.

I just checked and their is a torrent for 2.4.3 on another server (ITRWoW) but you can modify the realmlist to point to any server you like

Solve : Prism3d.exe?

Answer»

I recently downloaded '18 Wheels of Steel: Across America' - and upon first loading it up, the game worked absolutely fine. This was a trial version, just to note! I had to close the game down for a while, but when coming back to it, an error message arose SAYING that prism3d.exe wasn't working - and the solution provided was simply a patch made by the production company which was of little relevance.

Anyway, I uninstalled the game and reinstalled, and it worked fine the first time. Again, however, the prism3d.exe problem error came up again when trying to LOAD it the second time. Forgetting this completely, I went ahead and brought the game! The purchase simply allowed the trial version to be played fully - but then the same problem persisted.

Knowing it worked fine first time around, I don't think it has anything to do with my graphics card, and i've updated my graphic card driver just in case to no avail. Apparently this prism3d.exe is something created by SCS which enables the game to work, but I haven't had any luck finding out how to MAKE it work.

Any IDEAS? Thanks. What is the Exact error message?

What Operating System is this?OS is Windows Vista.

The problem itself is literally just an error message coming up saying "prism3d.exe is not working". I tried downloading this program again, but upon trying to open it, it suggested a dll file called gfxshared.dll held an error? I have one pressing question......this isn't a torrented game, is it?Not that I'm aware of! Just checked my e-mail account, I downloaded it as a trial version but then upgraded to the full version through Trymedia. I sent them an e-mail asking about it, they just sent me back an automated e-mail with aload of rubbish about internet explorer RELATED stuff.

What confuses me most is that upon first installing it, it works absolutely fine, so I can't deduce it to be a graphics problem, it just doesn't want to work the second time you load it up. I can get around it, just keep uninstalling and reinstalling, and thankfully my saved files are seperate so they're always available, but that's not really the principle.

Solve : NFS Pro Street Patch Problem?

Answer»

Hi, I downloaded nfs pro street patch v1.1 yesterday. I first COPIED that patch file to the directory in which nfs was installed. Then, I double clicked on it and some installation took place.
After that when i tried to run the game, the game started normally but it showed the version 1.0 not 1.1 and SECONDLY, when i choose any option like career etc, the game GOT an error.
I tried MANY times but it didn't worked.
Please help me how to successfully install the patch. If it's still reading 1.0, then the patch didn't apply properly or was corrupted. Unfortunately, most games don't have the option to revert to prior versions, so you'll need to uninstall and reinstall the game most likely. Clear your internet cache and re-download the patch from a trusted source (like the developer's website).can u give me some of the siteshttp://www.ea.com/prostreet/downloads.jsp?locale=us&skip_intro=1

firstly the European patch link below is (232.766kb) about -228mb - very nice download speed too.

Solve : Stella 2.6.1?

Answer»

Is anyone familiar with this Atari game EMULATOR. I was just trying the different settings on it and I clicked on "OPENGL". As soon as I did that the Stella interface turned white and I can no longer access any options to change anything in it. I tried uninstalling it, restarting and reinstalling it again and the screen is still white, when I run Stella.

any suggestions appreciated OK people, let your souls be at rest..

Here is a solution. When uninstalling Stella, it leaves behind the CONFIGURATION file, Stell.ini, located in "My Documents" in Windows XP. So when I uninstall/reinstall it must be using that same file.

The file may be edited so I simply edited the file to my liking, and I can now see the Stella GUI....It is no longer WHITE.

The other option I saw was to just DELETE the file and reinstall.......Other things I might have done was sift through the registry and delete stuff related to Stella or reinstall windows, but who wants to do that??

I feel dumb posting this but I thought I'd take a chance. I love playing scrabble online and I found a great website called lexulous. I've played with people all over the world. Recently the website has changed because Hasbro who owned scrabble sued the two INDIAN brothers who started this website that use to be called scrabulous but during the law suit they changed it to lexulous. Anyway now I'm having a PROBLEM playing. When I click on a tile on my tray it makes a smear path to the square I'm placing it on and then once it's PLACED I have to click back on the tray to make the smear go away. Also sometimes my TILES disappear. As a result I'm losing game after game. I've chatted with other players and so far no one has the same problem so it has to be something with my computer but I didn't have this problem before they changed to lexulous. I have updated all my programs. I've tried playing through Firefox.......nothing works. I love this game so much but I'm not liking it anymore. There is no really good scrabble online but this one.

Does anyone have any suggestions........please?

i play both PC and console games. my pc is better for shooters but i kinda LIKE consoles more because in the long run a console is cheaper because you don't have to go out and buy a $200 video card and processer if you want to play games on the highest detail.

Nope. you just have to buy a entirely NEW console for the next generation, rather then a new Card.

On the bright side, at least with the console, there isn't any troublesome installation issues that could crop up.

Mostly ya,
and with how quickly graphics are advancing these days its gonna get to the point where you have to buy a new graphics card, ram upgrade, and processor annually, though LOOKING back I change my mind, i do prefer PC games more because you can mod them. Though if you don't have a console you are missing out because there are lots of great games that aren't on PC.MGS 4

GTA IV The best game around. Enjoyed but wished i could have use my wheel.

Fallout 3. Still play haven't FINISHED yet ma bee this is number one actually. Very NICE game.

Farcry 2 love the graphics very nice. love the gun fights. but driving round sucks the car performs like a levitation platform or some thing it looks like a car but its just wrong.

spore kute but I'm getting board. only up to tribal though

Dirt is a really good Rally game Very Nice with a wheel and only $20 on ebay.

I'm told that left for dead rocks by my clan brethren and Will buy that next....

i usually play halflife 2 DM, Counter strike and Battlefield 2 classic but they are my favorite online games.

Solve : D3DRM.DLL Missing Error - Problem AND Solution?

Answer»

If you get this error do the following:

Update DirectX
Reboot your PC
Reinstall the software (PROBABLY a game)

These have been suggested as fixing problems BUT the sure fire way i found was to do this:

Go here:

http://www.dlldump.com/download-dll-files_new.php/dllfiles/D/d3drm.dll/5.1.2600.0/download.html

Download the dll file and save to your desktop , its not gonna be there long

Move the file from your desktop to one of the following folders:

32 Bit Systems

If you are using 32 Bit Version of windows go to your system32 file located here:

C:\Windows\System32

and move the d3drm.dll to that location and try RUNNING the program

64 Bit Systems

If you are running a 64 Bit system then move the file here:

C:\Windows\SysWOW64

and try running the program

Dont Know

If you dont know what version of windows you have then do the STEP for 32 bit windows and try running the program with the file there. If the program doesnt work then remove the file from where you just put it and move it to the location specified in the 64 bit windows user part. It is very likely one of these steps WILL work for you , if they dont im stumped

A little point to remember is that if you put the file in the location specified for 64 bit users and the game worked then it is likely that you are running a 64 bit system. It will come in handy to remember this.

Footnote

I know some people on these forums may not like to download from places allowing download of dll files for the reason that they can be vital to systems and could hide viruses etc. I agree with that BUT i used this dll to fix Motocross Madness 2 on my windows 7 64 bit Home Premium system and it all worked so I think you will all be ok. But if you choose not to use this site , do so at your own risk because , as i have said before , dlls can be dangerous

Hopefully this helps SOMEONE in need like i was

I was banned on a program called Street Challenge (a multiplayer game) for in-activity. I made a new account, but it said I had also been banned on that one, as all account I make on my computer are linked together. What can I do to stop this (I mean like reformatting or something) Thanks. You get banned for things like cheating, etc.
It's an IP ban, so create additional accounts or reformatting won't work.

Your computer's internet has a static IP address, you have to change this if you want to get around this block.
I don't think they ban people for "inactivity" they might delete accounts, but they wouldn't ban anybody.

Your computer's internet has a static IP address, you have to change this if you want to get around this block.

How do I change my IP?Depends on your ISP and DHCP server, but if it is a Dynamic IP you can just disconnecting from the internet and reconnecting it to get assigned a new IP. I am guessing your using an 'always on' static IP so it won't change. If your IP is static, then you CAN’T change it without contacting your ISP or using a proxy.

Go to a site to CHECK, for example: http://www.whatismyip.com/

You can go about manually assigning your own IP address. This IS possible, but you run a very high risk of your ISP BANNING you from connecting to the internet.

Also you have a MAC address, PHYSICAL hardware address, assigned to each device while it can be spoofed, you can not actually change it. The DHCP server records your MAC and assigns an IP. If you disconnect from the ISP, you lose your IP address. The next time you connect, the DHCP server sees your MAC, looks to see if it has assigned an IP address to you before. If it has and the lease time has not expired, it will most likely give you the same IP address you had before disconnecting.

You can use proxy servers, can be annoying to find a good speed one and secure, but basically your computer connects to this server which forwards your internet requests on through a DIFFERENT IP making you a bit more anonymous. The sad thing is that some ISP's keep your 'dynamic' IP static for monthsssssss! =P
Spoof your MAC!

I have to have 6 GB of RAM to run AOEIII fluently on max. =P

slow and jumpy symptoms relate to:
- little/slow RAM
- hard drive
- hard drive virtual memory being used because your system ran out of RAM
and it has to swap between RAM and hdd space all the time (RAM=fast, HDD=slow)

Also that video card is not awesome.. here's why.

I guess you have enough money just laying around that you can share with every one so they can afford to buy better systems.

How about instead of just saying some one has a crappy system you do something constructive and try to help them with their problem. If you READ all of the OP you will see that the system in question was previously able to run the games in question with no problems yet now it can't.

Jimbot182,

When was the last time your system had a really good cleaning?

What SIZE hard drive do you have and how much space is available?

When was the last time you scanned for virus/spyware?

Have you noticed any other problems with your system other then with games?

How long have you had this problem?

What changes if any were made to your system prior to this problem arising?Quote from: mroilfield on March 26, 2010, 12:37:46 AM
Not every one can afford the latest and greatest.

True, but consider that they have enough to buy the games, and a way better graphics card can probably be had for 30-40 dollars. But, given it used to work fine in this config and doesn't that's just a band-aid solution.

Quote

Not necessarily. Sure, you meet the minimum requirements, but those are generally meaningless. As Treval points out, the 5200FX sucked even when it was released.

That being said, I cannot say for sure wether this is the cause for the issues; I ran Half-life 2 quite comfortably on a 1.6Ghz P4, 1GB of RAM and a 256MB 5500FX (at 1440x900).

In an interesting twist, I found when I switched from an older generic Sound Blaster PCI to an Audigy SE that performance in everything dropped dramatically; even zdoom lagged unplayably. This turned out to be because the Audigy was not actually processing sound data, but the actual "sound card" was really just a software emulation of the DSP processor chip, since the "Audigy" SE doesn't actually have a "Audigy" chip, which was probably why it was 20 bucks.

Since "SoundMAX" is a integrated Audio Solution and a lot of integrated Audio solutions defer almost all their processing to the Processor, Combined with the fact that your working with a single core processor, you could try reducing sound quality settings both within the game as well as in your control panel. (namely, reduce sampling rate and bit-width). Try an older Audio driver.

video and audio codecs

No. That doesn't even make sense. Video and Audio Coder/Decoders are used for Decoding things like Mpeg video and DVDs. They have absolutely nothing to do with games (except maybe in-game movies).

Only other thing I can think of is a full reinstall of windows, but that's an awful lot of effort that is best avoided.I suggest running an analysis of defragmentation:

start -> all programs -> accessoires -> system tools -> disk defragmenter

Run 'analyze' on all disks and if it says "This disk should be defragmented", then do so.
Also check to see if your C:\ (or system drive (where Windows is installed in)) has enough free space
(by enough I mean at least 1 GB; e.g. 100 MB free space is definitely a problem).

Try to reinstall your chipset drivers. Maybe some people here can tell you how to do that. =P

Solve : Empire: Total War trouble?

Answer»

I have just bought Empire: Total WAR. I installed it, and then launched the game. Immediately, the screen goes black, and all I can see is the cursor. I can hear the game music in the background, and I can click on stuff, but I get no picture. The game is running, but I'm playing without seeing!

I have tried a complete uninstall and reinstall, but that didn't work.

Seems like your RAM is letting you down.
You have to remember this is FREE RAM not just a bit of 1gb

Also that processor if it's a single core processor. That along with the memory issue. So not having enough RAM WOULD let the game run fine but with no picture?
That and the fact your CPU is not good enough. The CPU is single core not fast enough. in order to get something that meets the minimum, you'd NEED a new processor. to get to recommended (which is a alias for "playable") you would need a newer generation CPU, (a Core Duo, for example) which will not be usable in the same socket as a P4.

Next, as has been stated, you don't have nearly enough RAM to run it. Remember they are Minimums. The minimum requirement for windows XP is 64MB, for example.

Lastly, your GPU is 2 YEARS too old. a 9250 comes in PCI and AGP variants. the X1300 is not only a newer graphics card, with a newer generation GPU as well as faster RAM, but it operates on the much faster PCI-Express bus.

so that's RAM, Graphics Card, and CPU you need to upgrade, the CPU will probably need a newer motherboard, and so would the graphics card, which means that your basically building a PC from scratch.

Hmmm... while playing, is there any program running?Click Here To See Weather You Can Play It Fine Or NotGTA 4 is buggy and slow, a game I purchased and returned the next day until I got a new graphic card. My parents purchased the DVD when it first came out as a Christmas gift, I begged due to it's R18 and then said return it (they gave a full refund, not store credit but cash, no problems, even though it has a no return on it, as I screenshot an error message that came up half the time)!

It is highly depending on the graphic card and it's memory, don't bother with the system requirements unless you just want to play on the low of the lows glitchy graphics. Update the graphic card and all problems magical disappear, quality and speed return. When it was released it was full of bugs and graphic problems, ensure you have updated it also!

It should of never been released at it's original state, which is worst than beta, I blame 'Microsoft GAMES for Windows Live' they injected into it, screwing half of it up. First DVD install was a failure, didn't install correctly. It's the first game I had to install/uninstall and reinstall, then tweak just to get it working a bit better. It's also a game that works better if cracked, and you wonder why so many people pirate, lol (before you say it, note it's not illegal to NO/DVD if you have the original DVD).

Also update your DirectX, should be DirectX 9.0c for WinXP.

I had a 8800GTX, which I later upgraded to 275GTX, retried it and it runs smoothly, totally different now.A person I knew had no problem playing GTA4 on max settings and super fluent:

his rig:

- Most expensive QuadCore out there (forgot which one; Xeons? they cost 900$)
- RageII Extreme mobo
- 8 x 120 mm fans + watercooling
- GeForce 280 GTX 2 GB Video RAM (I think)
- 1000 W PSU
- 8 GB DDR3 RAM
- 7 TB hdd space

I can tell you it was fluent because I played it on his rig.
Everything was shiny, max distance and beautiful. No lag whatsoever.
Not even in action scenes.
When I first read this thread I thought it was talking about GTA:VC, since that was the fourth one. Although I think the association came about since GTA III is part of the same world as the SA and Vice City games. Of course it's obviously referring to the far newer and hefty computer requiring GTA IV.

Thank for reply. Now it better after my brother he configure Texture and other in graphic setting it to low.
Now I can play it.
My spec
ASUS P5KPL/EPU

Here are my specs

[SAVING space, attachment deleted by admin]Have you been to CYRI?

http://www.canyourunit.comyes but I want a second opinion i dont PASS recommended because my pixel shader and vertex shader arent 4.0 according to that.Sometimes its HARD to tell. Depending on several factors such as the age of your computer, the os your using and the different programs your running at the same time as the game, we can offer you no more than an educated gueseSince you don't meet the recommended Pixel shader/Vertex shader version you will probably NEED to reduce some of the quality settings in order to GET smooth gameplay.

What Does That Mean Quote from: the_mad_joker on June 06, 2010, 01:32:30 AM
What Does That Mean

Should be written PS or ps. Common abbreviation in English which precedes something written after the end of a message. Is short for post scriptum (Latin for "after what has been written"). It is usually used after handwritten messages to add something that the writer forgot to include in the main part. Some people think that PSs are sloppy and would rewrite the message. There is no reason for them, REALLY, in editable messages e.g. those typed using a computer.

Example.

Dear Mad Joker

You are invited to come to our beach party next Sunday.
There will be a barbecue and free beer. My mother will
play the accordeon, and my father will give a DISPLAY of
juggling. It starts at 13:00.

Best wishes

Salmon

PS Please bring your guitar.

(PPS, PPPS would start any more successive ones - Post Post [Post] Scriptum, although I was taught that if you have to use a PS there should only be one at most; if you need two, it would be better to rewrite the message.)
