Solve : Best resolution(s) for simulators?

Answer»

Hi again.

What would be the best resolution for simulators e.g. railworks for a LAPTOP with this:

2GB RAM

156GB Storage

Intel Celeron processor( NOT dual core)

Intel graphics media accelerator driver

1280x800 screen resolution

The reason is because when i try some of the resolutions e.g 1280x800 it becomes really furstratingly slow.

Mattmisread. nvm

Most ordinary laptops are not built for games with big graphic demands. Your best bet is to go down on the resolution to maybe 800x600 and that should help it alittle.I have already tried that but it still is very slow and totaly unplayable.

But THANKS anyway.

MattYou should probably look into getting a graphics card.Quote from: kpac on July 07, 2010, 03:28:26 PM

You should probably look into getting a graphics card.

Kpac, it is a laptop

Sorry to say that the laptop itself may not have the guts to run the game as you want it.

As well as resolution, try turning off things like shadows, and lower the viewing distance in game, these two things can give a significant FPS boost.Quote from: Kurtiskain on July 07, 2010, 05:53:44 PM

Ugh......sorry. I actually went to currys digital yesterday and i seen a laptop with 3GB RAM that costs roughly about £375-£380 which is less than my laptop because mine cost £400 AND my laptop only has 2GB RAM.

IT EVEN HAS A BETTER PROCESSOR THAN MINE! it's the celeron DUAL CORE and mine only has the celeron (non dual core).

my laptop was 699$ and it's a Dual Core T3200, with 4GB of RAM and a DVD-RW burner.

I think 699$ is pretty close to 400 Pounds (hey, I don't MEMORIZE exchange rates), too.

But seriously, you are going to need a lot more HORSEPOWER to run that game. Even my laptop has TROUBLE running most games (well, that's not 100% true, but it certainly can't compete with my desktop machine at all)

Solve : Good cooperative play PC game?

Answer»

My wife and I have been having a lot of fun playing Lego Batman for the PC together, but we will be finishing the game soon. What other PC games are out there that are somewhat family friendly (not FPS) that can be played cooperatively? I have been trying google searches, etc. but all of the lists are either really long or really short. Not one of the lists mentioned Lego Batman as a PC game either, so I imagine there must be other games geared towards CONSOLES that have been released for the PC as WELL that are not listed.

Thanks for any suggestions. You could try MMORPGs?

Star Trek Online (my current one)
WORLD of Warcraft (Still have an active account)
EVE (EWWWWWW)
Thinks like that?

You could also try Strategy games like the Total WAR series. Napoleon Total War now offers co-op campaign mode which makes for a very long game.

Depends what type of games you likeLike I said, I am interested in family-friendly games, so anything with an "M" rating is out of the question. Also, it has to be something that two players can play on the same computer at the same time. It could be split-screen, or shared screen, but I am not interested in online games. Just the two of us.Hmmmm, best bet would be a Nintendo Wii although I hate them myself. Trying to think of any games that are split screen co-op. Only one that comes to kind is castle crashers, available on xbox store.
Co-op has been pretty phased out since online gaming is more the norm now I'm afraid.Battlezone 2

It's a future fighting style game.

It's a bit older but still fun.

RTS + First/Third person Views.

Its not too bad, I dont think your wife might really mind.Quote from: WillNeedsHelpFast on March 10, 2010, 07:50:15 PM

Note:
1. he wanted a game that can be played by two players at once
2. he wanted a game that was family friendly (if it involves KILLING people with guns it is not considered family friendly by today's standards)Speaking of Lego games, have you two tried the Lego Star Wars games? My girlfriend and I play that sometimes. I don't know how Lego Batman works, but in Star Wars you can play 2 players simultaneously and cooperatively. Great fun. But as far as PC games go, cooperative, family-friendly games are rare anymore. As mentioned, the Wii has quite a few that fit this category, but that would mean buying a whole new thing and I don't know how crazy you (or your wife) would be about that.Rayman Arena
LEGO RACER
Robot Arena
Toon Golf
Pinball games
Paintball games

Solve : The Sims 3 CPU speed?

Answer»

Hey folks,

I've just bought the Sims 3 and was told by the cashier to use the 'can i run it' website to check whether the game's compatible with my laptop.

I passed everythin except for the cpu speed and i realise there's nothing much i can do abt that so my question is can i still play the game on my laptop?

I have an HP pavilion dv6000, windows vista.

CPU Speed
Minimum: (XP) 2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent; (Vista/7) 2.4 GHz P4 processor or equivalent [If built-in graphics CHIPSETS then 2.6 GHz Pentium D CPU, or 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent.]

You Have: 127.9 GB

I don't see why it's showing 803MHz.

Your CPU is a dual core @ 1.9GHz. (1900MHz on each core)

Just out of curiosity, download, install, and run this...

http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpuz/cpuz_153_setup.exe

Tell us what it shows for your CPU. Look at the "Core Speed".I ran the program and it came up with the same thing, 803.6Mz

Any chance i can still get away with runnin the game?I guess i'm confused. Because the "Can I run it" tool shows your exact CPU, and then says that it's only 803.6MHz. Thats not even half of one core's speed. Maybe there's a problem with your motherboard and/or RAM thats causing your CPU to show only 803MHz. The amount of RAM is good, but I don't know if it's compatible with your motherboard and CPU.

Use the CPU ID tool to tell us what it says about your motherboard, and look at the "Speed" tab and tell us what it says about your RAM.

Have you bought the game already? If so, have you opened it?The thing with laptop gaming is the CPU is more likely to be thermal throttled, and run at a reduced speed to save battery power, therefore extending the time between charges. So the CPU is either overheating, or the laptop is running on a 'low power' mode.

The low power mode option is a lot more likely. Are you running the laptop off battery? What power profile are you using when plugged in?Hey, I was on low power as at that point I NEEDED a new batterybut i've bought a new battery and changed

it to hp settings and I've passed the canirunit test. THANKS very much for the tip.I personally would never do any gaming with out my laptop plugged in and on a well ventilated surface. As Kurtiskain pointed out most laptops run on reduced setting when on battery power unless you go in and change the settings your self. Also if you add in the strain on the battery and heat generated when gaming it is just good practice to have it plugged in and ventilated.maybe you want to get a laptop cooler to keep it chilled while u play.

Specs for C&C Renagade

and the second time is when i play Command and conquer renagade, i can play the first level of it and the it crashes out with a black screen and an error message saying my grathics has stop working and goes in to 256 color mode its not a diver issue the drivers are up to day

[recovering disk space - old attachment deleted by admin]Quote from: blackrainbow on June 17, 2010, 08:31:21 AM

mobile intel 915 gsm chipset

The problem most likely lies in this, as the Intel chipsets are not designed for 3D gaming and can't handle the stress.

You're probably right, it's not a driver issue, it's a HARDWARE one. It's not a problem, it's just that you've reached the limit to what the Intel video chipset can do.hmm :/ any thing i can do You might be ABLE to get away with setting your games to the lowest possible QUALITY, but it probably still won't work very well.

However, seeing as it's a laptop, there's nothing you can do. Laptops are not the best thing for gaming, they're even worse for gaming when they've got an Intel chipset. Another thing that hurts is that it only has 512MB of RAM, which it also shares for video.

My advice: (and I KNOW it's not what you're gonna want to hear)
If you really wanna play games, invest in a good desktop. If it must be a laptop, make sure it's got an ATI or Geforce chipset in it and enough RAM to support both the system and the video card, since it's shared in most laptops.Quaxo:

I'd fully agree if the games were more modern, but since they are relatively old and also have quite low requirements, I don't think it's the normal issue of a underpowered integrated graphics.

However, that being said, I think the "try reducing quality/res" idea might be worth a shot. For some reason or another the graphics driver is crashing, and the fact that it does so on a relatively old game is somewhat worrisome. Does the laptop work with any other Direct3d/OpenGL utilizing games?

Also, in an interesting coincidence, I had the exact same problem on my older PC with a Nvidia 5500FX- I was able to fix it by updating the game, so if you haven't done so, make sure to install the latest patches (for C&C first decade if that is the product you actually have those games as part of).i find my lapot a bit weird it can run portal, but i wont run c&c games, i can play ra2. hmm ill see if i can find the up date patches. Quote from: BC_Programmer on June 17, 2010, 11:42:59 AM
Quaxo:

Any time I've tried C&C Generals crashes on Intel chipsets before it even starts. I've had this issue before trying to run it on my EeePC and my girlfriend's Toshiba, both of which have Intel chipsets. However, World of Warcraft will run on Intel chipsets, as I've run it on both of those systems, on minimal detail and medium detail respectively. If I tried to push for more, it made the power adapter overheat on the EeePC and the Toshiba itself would push heat limits, even with a cooling pad.

Like I said, computers with that kind of hardware just aren't able to handle 3D games.

You know, it occurs to me now that I do have C&C: The First Decade and some Intel video chipset computers. I could EXPERIMENT tonight and see if I can get Renegade to work.well, I don't think it's a "global" think with all intel chipsets... I know my Satellite L300 can run both games fine- but, then again, my L300 is a lot newer and has a far newer graphics chipset then the PC in question.

Actually, given the new information that it can run Portal fine, I'd be inclined to blame DirectX/Direct3d- or, I suppose, more precisely, the Intel Driver/Chipset's implementation of it.hmmm i have enough old parts laying around i will try to build a tower just to play them and finish the games or i could micro wave my laptop (i think would be more enter taining ) dont try that at home

Solve : My computer struggles with CoD4 Multiplayer, but not single player!?

Answer»

Hey.

I've had in my COMPUTER a nVidia 9600GT for two years, but lately it struggles with Call of Duty 4 Multiplayer. Some specs include Intel Core 2 Quad @ 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, Windows XP 32 bit.

In the multiplayer, even the INTERFACE(before I even join a game) skips every second or so, and then in a game it keeps skipping every second or so. Also, sometimes(about 30% of the time) it will let me play with very little skips or lagginess so that it's actually playable, but it still hiccups sometimes. But what is very odd is that it's only the multiplayer portion that skips and lags. The single PLAYER portion(which is actually a whole different executable) never lags nor skips at all.

I've had this computer for two years and only within the last few months has it seemed to struggle. And, it's not a problem with my internet because the computer sitting next to me with a nVidia 8400GS, 2GHz single core CPU, and 1GB RAM runs the same THING just fine. I had both computers spectating the same person in the game, and my 9600GT computer skipped and was unbearable while the 8400GS was smooth.

Does anyone have any clue why this could be? Thanks!

That is an awesome tool, mad joker! Just run the game and when it finishes completely loading when ur in a safehouse or after the first cutscene video press Esc and go to graphics. Click auto detect then change screen reolution to lowest which is 800X600 and then just put most of the other graphic settings to low/medium just keep view distance to below 15 and then the game should run fine, like mine did till I maxed my graphics with a 9800 GTX GEforce Oc 512 by NVIDIA, you should get a better card to for the new 2010/2011 games. VPN software:

I don't have a LAN network so I use a VPN (Virtual Private Network).

What is VPN you say?

A VPN joins two remote computers together over the internet as if they where in a LAN network.

There are a few VPN programs out there and I've used alot of them but the best I've come across is:

1st Place, COMODO EasyVPN http://easy-vpn.comodo.com/

And tied in 2nd place, Wippien and Hamachi

Wippien : www.wippien.com

Hamachi : http://www.filehippo.com/download_hamachi/

Hamachi is also really really good if you just want a simple VPN connection. Also it comes with ZERO configuration so you don't have to deal with firewalls. *thanks to my good friend qwertyman XBLGT: TOOC00L4U

Honourable mentions:

>Doom 1, 2 and 3

>Quake 1, 2, 3 and 4

>Dungeon Keeper 1 and 2

>CSS

>Unreal Tournament

>Rainbow 6 Series

Then I RECOMMEND these games because they are extremely fun. But unfortunately there not free

In the future I'll add to the list so feel free to mention some other good LAN gamesto ammend the list, I'd like to POINT out that, with Doom, it is really the WAD files that you would need to "purchase"- DOOM.WAD, DOOM2.WAD, etc. Since the program itself has been released under the GPL. Thankfully, because if this fact and the number of ports, one can download a port as well as a free WAD file, a prime example of an iWAD being FreeDOOM, which recreates a fairly good Doom feel with entirely new resources.Don't forget zdoom How would I do that? ZDoom is a port and can run FreeDoom.I just tried out Teeworlds with my brother.
It's really addictive, and fun too!

Solve : My VB/Java Browser Based MMORPG Project! (In Development)?

Answer»

Here is a sneak peak video! : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-c_xoH0kb6M

Please VISIT our website at: http://www.r-go.tk

Racing Gears Online is a new MMORPG that I am designing. It is a delightful throwback to the genre of isometric-view racers, which hasn't been great since the days of Rock N Roll Racing and Ironman Ivan Stewart's Super Off Road. Featuring tight racing controls, 12 wacky driver avatars encapsulated in 12 real-life vehicles, and fast-paced, addictive, and challenging racing, Racing Gears Online is simply a great game in every respect.

If you've been pining for the days of simplistic, addictive racers, like RC Pro-Am and the old Micro Machines games, then you're in for a treat with Racing Gears Online.

Upon starting the game, you'll find yourself with only a few unlocked tracks. Some of the cars include a H2 Hummer, a Dodge Super-8 Hemi, a Lotus Typhoon, and a Chevrolet SSR, among others. Each car is also armed with its own special ability, like one that makes other racers SPIN out when they come into contact with you, or a speed boost that's activated whenever you're hit with a weapon. Before a race, you also have the option to use an individual racer's cash to buy weapons, like oil slicks, smoke screens, nitro boosts, and land mines. These gimmicky abilities, along with the weaponry, come together to create a style of racing that's almost comparable to a modern-day kart racer. However, it isn't all blasters and oil slicks, thankfully, and the driving engine is where the game really excels.

When racing in Racing Gears Online, you're presented with an isometric viewpoint. Just press Z to accelerate, X to brake, and let up on the accelerator around corners to pull off a powerslide. That's about all there is to the driving mechanics, but that hardly makes the game easy. Your opponents (which include computers as well as other online players) are quite tough, forcing you to bob and weave through enemy weaponry, as well as keep an eye out for hidden shortcuts (of which there are almost always at least one or two in every track). The best thing, however, is that the challenge of races never feels artificial. There's no rubber-band artificial intelligence that lets CPU drivers catch up with you--right at the last second--when you're about to win. Every racer is just as capable of screwing up as you, so if you suck at the game, it's totally on you to learn the tracks and improve, because you won't have any cheap opponent racers to blame your inherent lack of skill on. And since the racing is so wholly enjoyable, you'll most certainly want to get better anyhow.

The track designs in the game also help matters quite a bit. There is a huge variety of environments, the tracks are laid out with plenty of twists, turns, terrain changes and OBSTACLES to navigate. The addition of the shortcuts also keeps things interesting, especially since the locations of most of them are tough to decipher until you've repeated a track a few times. Overall, there's more than enough variety and challenge contained within each track to keep you coming back time and time again.

All the cars start out basically the same upon your first play. However, as you play through the game online with others, you'll earn mad amounts of cash you can use to purchase upgrades for things like tires, your engine, and weapon storage. The tire upgrades are especially useful, as the game uses a few different types of terrain and weather across each track. So you'll have snow tires for snowy conditions and dirt tires for off-road courses.

Outside of the online mode, there are the usual quick race (computer players only) and practice modes.

There's a nice variety of weaponry and car upgrades in the game, providing you with more than enough reason to keep coming back to earn more cash.

Aesthetically, Racing Gears Online is a fairly simple-looking game, although it's hardly an unattractive one. The 2D car sprites and environments blend together very nicely, and the cars actually show off a fair amount of detail. The game's most impressive achievements in the realm of presentation come from its technical aspects. The isometric, top-down camera that's employed works extremely well, never moving in such a way as to cause you to crash just because you didn't see a turn coming. Even if you do happen to drive behind a piece of scenery, a little arrow icon appears to denote where your car is, preventing you from losing sight of it. Racing Gears also runs at a constantly smooth rate, never chugging or breaking up frames, no matter how much craziness is occurring onscreen at once. The basic makeup of the audio is largely excellent, featuring solid car effects, some neat weapon effects, and some exceptionally catchy tunes that play while you race. The songs sound like MIDI-inspired versions of Fatboy Slim-esque dance tracks, and they're all very listenable.

All told, Racing Gears Online is an extremely pleasant surprise that delivers as good of an arcade racing experience with the modern day mmorpg era as you're going to find for a java browser based game. It is one of the the flashiest, deepest, most action-packed racer you'll ever see, and it has more than enough well-produced, addictive qualities to make it worth a spot in your collection of free to play MMORPG's.You Should Change The View !!!!!!!!!!!!! The View U Are Using Is As Same As Gta London Or 2 (Whatever It Might Be) It Looked Old ,

Gameplay :9.0

Mechanics :9.5 Hmm, very interesting how you were able to use the exact same resolution as the SNES (256x224)

Also curious why you would choose to use the name "A button" and "B button" for the game functions. that makes no sense. Unless of course it is a SNES game.

Additionally, while it is claimed that you are "racing 7 of your friends" this is also not the case. For one, your car is faster then ALL of them. This is a trait of the CPU players in a game being slightly slower then the player.

Additionally, I find it hard to believe that everybody playing except for you would just happen to randomly decide to drive along the exact same racing line. Almost like it's defined for an AI.

Given these inconsistencies and the lack of any actual perspective that proves it's running on the PC rather then on the SNES where it Obviously came from, I don't believe this.StarCraft

I've never really liked any Warcraft game. The whole fantasy aspect just falls apart in a RTS setting, since the rules don't necessarily need to follow logic.

"ok, what's strong against Fire Monger-Wood-Nymphs"?

"hmm- well, let's make a new unit, the WaterFall Super Pixie."

"Cool, that was easy."

whereas other RTS games such as C&C and AOE, actually need to create something that makes sense in the context.Quote from: BC_Programmer on March 25, 2009, 08:14:35 AM

Never understood it either... you dont have too its much like Final Fantasy in a way. Like moogles and chocobo's you shouldnt have to get it just for the fun of it right?1. Final Fantasy VII
2. Final Fantasy VIII
3. Chrono Trigger
4. The Legend Of Zelda: The Adventure Of Link (did you know there are 14 Zelda games!)
5. Legend of Dragoon

I love this thread! Especially because people are mentioning RPG elements and I have to make an RPG game in XNA & C# as my college final.. I think I'm going to write a thread about it! Quote from: Treval on March 21, 2010, 03:18:09 AM
3. Chrono Trigger
Chrono Trigger is one of my all time favourites. Heck, I even got the actual game off ebay instead of just playing it through emulation.

Quote
4. The Legend Of Zelda: The Adventure Of Link (did you know there are 14 Zelda games!)
yep! that's one of the shunned ones, but it's one of the greatest as well. it mixes RPG and action at least as good, of not better then it's predecessor, and maybe it's successor (Link to the past... (unless you count Links awakening)).

Ocarina of Time is a great game but sometimes I think it might be overrated simply because of the "nostalgia" sentiments. I'm not sure how popular Majora's Mask is (I didn't like it AT ALL at first, but I've come to like it at least as much as OOT, if not more so). Recently beat both Wind Waker and Twilight Princess on my Gamecube (never played them before, since N64 was kind of the time I "grew out of" consoles (translation: my mother sold them )). They were alright, and Twilight Princess is pretty good too.

heh, when I recieved my copy of the A Link to the past in the mail I played it immediately and was at the last dungeon when I saved and quit, but when I started it the saves were gone for some reason the battery contact wasn't touching the battery, so I opened it up and fixed it and then beat it again. Although I had beaten the game loads of TIMES on the real system before I didn't realize it was possible to beat it so quickly; seemed more "epic" at the time, I guess. Good times though, since I remember having to beat the ice dungeon boss with a half a heart. As far as I'm aware the SNES is the only system that only had a single Zelda game made for it; NES had the first one and Adventure of Link, N64 had OoT and Majora's Mask, Gamecube had Wind Waker and Twilight princess, etc.

I want to say it was a launch title, but I'm not 100% sure. I know I was able to acquire one of the other launch titles, F-Zero, still in box with the plastic on it, for 8 dollars.... and yet chrono trigger was 70 bucks and that was just the cartridge. It's unconventional and even downright strange, but I guess that's why I like it myself. I have a friend who loves RPG games and hates Earthbound, though, so it's not for everyone. Won't know until you try it. I've just played Earthbound. Got annoyed by the large number namecalling (if you know what I mean).

Solve : Is having a Second Life a good idea??

Answer»

Guys stop going OT. =PI agree with the comment's above, you do LOSE out A lot on life playing games like Second Life etc... so many things can destroy you playing those sort of games. Specially for young people has they grow up not focusing on school there future because stuff like that will become A habit which develops A hole, the more you play, the more chance you life is going down it's A serious habit. Even on the X-box and PS3 getting really addicting to playing a COD or HALO etc.... Playing that all day INSTEAD of going out and communicating with others getting some exercise and fresh air. It's really unhealthy for your and really bad for your future, it's ok to play games now and then in your spare time. Even most unemployed adults over the age of 18+ still doing stuff like that and living with there parents because they never focused on school and his future and just stuck in another world and not even getting a job. But anyone should think more about there future more than games. Games can wait and be played anytime, but Time doesn't.Completely agree with Imran. He makes a very good point.Quote from: Keaira on March 24, 2010, 07:46:05 PM

I play second life and I love it. I get off on running a business and making it work. But anything you can think of, you can find it in sl. You can do or be anything you want to do or be. You can be a premium member for $70 a year but you dn't have to. The only benefit to being a premium member is that you can own property. But you can have a free account and rent your property from another resident.

Just think of it, you can be anything you want to in rl and work in your own business and have your own house in rl and all that is priceless ^_^

rl = Real lifethanks so I tried second life but am finding it difficult to play?hmmmmm the MONEY thing is what really confuses me. With enough patience and a good manual/references/google you can make it and understand it. I haven`t tried second life because I need some pay pal thingy that I don`t have.
But Iv`e seen it alot and it looks super great!!
I think having it is a great IDEA!

Solve : Crysis displays error message before loading?

Answer»

Hi,

I just fixed an issue I had with my computer that CAUSED it to freeze, and now I finally got back up to speed, went to install crysis, and after installing it and trying to play it, I get a message that says, "Please insert the original disc instead of a backup (1000)". The problem is that I'm using the original dvd , not a copy. My only clue is this: right before the freezing issue occurred, I had been playing crysis for about 4 hours straight on this new system which I had BUILT same day. The game was right in the middle of an in-level event when it suddenly froze...audio looped very rapidly forever and the screen displayed the last image I had just seen. After I RESTARTED the system, the freezing issue started occurring with my entire system(eventually fixed by updating BIOS). However, while trying to fix the freezing issue, I DECIDED to try playing crysis again to see if the system would crash...the first time I tried doing this, I received this same "original disc" error. It's almost like the disc became corrupted by the first freezing event. Any ideas on how/if I can fix this without having to go BUY a new game? Thanks!reinstall itTry these links:

Ahh, ok. Looks like a lot of people have this problem, I should have done my homework...thanks anyways! As a final note, it does make that clicking noise that's being described, but oddly enough I tried to play the game last night and it worked, so I guess I just need to keep the disk clean.

Solve : Call Of Duty 4 Profile name.?

Answer»

It SEEMS that cod4 has a limit on the amount of profile letters you can use. I think its 12 or so. Thats all I can use anyway. What I do not understand Is some players Have long profile names when I play the game on line? whats up with that? Can anyone tell me how they are doing this?H4CKS!!!

Actually, there is a small application for Halo PC that allows you to put symbols in your name so I think there is SOMETHING similar in your situation.Hmm, Interesting. Now I KNOW someone out there knows how to do this, Cause I have seen people using long names on there profiles. Now, Let's GET something straight. I am an HONEST person and do not want to do anything illegal. so If there Is a website you can refer me to so I can do some research, That's fine. Thanks.I actually don't know where you could go but I would try looking at CoD4 fan sites and/or maybe download sites.
To get the name utility for Halo, you can get it at a halo modding site so I would try and do the same.OK, All you have to do Is..... Go to the options menu, Than multiplayer options. Type what you want to make your name longer. But It will only give you a few more letters.

Solve : Heroes 3 On Vista?

Great old game, but it seems to have a problem with DirectX 10. Does anyone know of a way to bypass or patch this problem?

WOULD apriciate any help.

Just a pre-flame to anyone that posts what pc specs: Heroes of MIGHT and Magic 3, Vista, DX10 & that's all that's relevant at this time.I don't think it's possible. Do you not have DirectX 10?I have DirectX 10 and I'm pretty SURE that it is the problem.Quote from: Carbon Dudeoxide on July 21, 2008, 02:31:30 PM

I don't think it's possible. Do you not have DirectX 10?

I remember hearing a problem like this a while back.

I think microsoft still hasent done anything. What is the actual problem? The game just fails to start, it installs in compatibility mode though. It mentions mutiple TIMES that it's not happy about DX10.DirectX9 is installed on Windows Vista, but it's not the same version of DX9 that's used in earlier versions of Windows if I recall correctly.
Have you tried UNINSTALLING and reinstalling the game?
That's the only thing I can think of really, sorry.

Solve : Steam vs. Empire: Total War question?

Answer»

Does Steam own EMPIRE Total War? I tried to install Empire on a clean system and it requested Steam.

So there's a novel idea - put out a great game and tie it to your own control system.

I wonder what marketing genius thought of that?*censored*? double posts? No, not a double post. This is a different question. Read it.

I'm asking if Empire is tied to Steam - that wasn't my point before.oops. my bad

Steam does not own it. they are working together. I noticed in Defense Grid it says that the game can be run INDEPENDENTLY. I'm sure the same is true of Empire.

Exactly how does one do that???not too sureAre you wanting to remove Steam?
Why?Do not remove steam its the only way that you can play your game. IF you remove it, there is no legal way of playing the game. period.

This thread is not about removing Steam, it is in REGARD to Empire Total War and its ASSOCIATION with Steam.

Can Empire run alone? That is the question. When I run it on another computer it brings up a Steam registration request.

Basic question is: How can I get this game to run solo? No.Quote from: BC_Programmer on March 12, 2009, 01:10:31 AM

No.

Solve : COD4 Multiplayer question?

Answer» HEY guys, this may be a dumb question, but I play COD4 online a lot on the PC. My brother and another FRIEND both have PS3's and they play online. Is there a way that I can play online with them even though I'm using a PC? I think the servers are different and I didn't know if I could DOWNLOAD something or if they could do something so that we can all play together online. Thanks for any HELP.Im pretty sure you cant :\

Assuming that on the PC you actually get to pick a server to play on, you wont be able to play with people online on 360 or PS3. I know some games ALLOW you to play against 360 players like shadowrun for example, but Im pretty sure CoD4 isnt one of those games.

Hope that was help Nope you cantThanks guys.

Solve : San Andres Multiplayer server??

Answer»

Hey guys
I have a question concerning a game mod for Grand Theft Auto Multiplayer. Me and my friend are trying to start up a multiplayer roleplay server but IM not exactly sure how to start one up and I dont have the scripts for it. Can anyone provide me with some facts to get started? I downloaded the things required to start a server, but the instructions arnt so clear...Any help would be greatly appreciated

If you could provide a good roleplay script as well, ill pay you 100 space dollars Anyone? Is there online play built into the game?
If not, then there more than likely isn't multiplayer. It's a modification

www.sa-mp.com

So yes there is multiplayer, and yes you can start a serverHave a look here: http://forum.sa-mp.com/index.php?topic=72147.0

Apparently, there are no servers online, so it looks like you'll have to set up your own. Hm, Thanks alot, Still very confusing for me

Im willing to give someone admin rights on the server if they help out, Me and someone else will be paying for it though so all you have to do is set it up Well, if you're asking me, sorry, I don't have time at the moment with exams and other stuff going on. I'd love to help though.

Have a read through the instructions again. It mightn't seem that confusing after a while.
You did give me a good start though
Ill have a look through all this stuff again, I manage to set it up once...Second time not so much...

Thanks for the help though and good luck on your exams!

If anyone is willing to help PM me, Ill fill you in on the details, I have the scripts and the link on where you can retrieve them for anyone willing to helpNo problem, and thanks for the luck. A notice for those interested in my (maybe our if you help out! ) server can CHECK out my website, used to be for a game called Second Life, The website is in process of being updated for gta exclusively. The blog contains some of our basic ideas on what the server will have, although not complete. My website is relatively new so I am in need for members. What does that mean for you? Well, we are in need of people to run gangs! Recruit some friends and apply to have your gang created on the server. Please check the blog for details!!! Thanks guys!

www.corleonefamilymafia.webs.com Just in case you were still needing help....

Once your server is RUNNING, you will need to port forward from your modem/router to your computer, and tell your friend your external IP address to connect to, to start the game.Thats another part thats a bit confusing for me, I MIGHT be able to do that though...

Im kinda noobish at starting a server but we all have to start somewhere

Anything else you could help with would be greatly appreciated

Im also currently looking for a scripter, I have a script I downloaded somewhere but im trying to add a few more features to make it more unique, if anyone can help with that few free to PM or reply, help will of course get you admin rights

Thanks for all your help guys

Solve : Wrath of the Lich King?

Answer»

Hi. A friend and I who used to play WoW quite a bit. we were both endgame and everything in Burning Crusade are considering coming back for Wrath. Towards the end of our time in WoW though BC had become soooo boring and we COULD barely stand it. My question is is it worth it to come back for Wrath? Is it a lot different than BC, what is different exactly? Thanks in advance.I know- I become boring after a while. Sorry about that.It is getting a little boring after the high of "Midnight Madness" but if you are wanting to get back into it, give it a shot. Even if you get bored with it, you could always sell

[image removed]True my friend and I have pretty decided to give it a shot. The death knight seems pretty appealing to me and leveling up and the whoel social aspect is what I miss most from the game so were going to jump back in and level a couple death knights together. I think I'm going to be a gnome I am giddy with excitement lol.I have had a blast leveling to 80, but then the grind of running the same instances over and over gets a bit old. Guess, it is time to make a new character or get back into the pvp side of things.Hmm yeah. We have both bought the game now and I must say I've barely touched it since I've had it. I have a dk now LEVELED it to i think 59 lol and haven't even touched my main character still level 70. My friend on the other hand though has been playing an insane amount of time. I really just do not have that kind of time. I mean it literally took me 2 years to get to level 70, but so far the little I have seen of the game I really like it.well to be honest Blizz has MADE WoW a very casual game, even if you were only to play it an hour at a time it would still take less than a month to level a lvl 70 to 80 its much more laid back than it was in Pre- TBC and TBC itself.
but i think this has lost its appealI currently have WoTLK...but the only reason I came back was for the lvl 80 and the Death Knights.

TBC was the better expansion, and though the new instances are fun, they do get boring.DK's are a fun toon to play, VERY TOUGH TANKS with the plate gear, and the quests actually give you nice blue gear rewards that are far better than what you could buy in the auction house etc.

My choice for my DK was a female Night Elf... she kicks serious *censored* and can shadowmeld if the mob is too much for her as part of her racial inherritance of being a night elf.

Also the AOE ( Area of Effect ) casts that do not require Mana! Is awesome, you can both be in the mob pit hacking and slashing axeing them down and cast DOT ( Damage over Time) AOE's to bring death to all enemies around you.

Still havent found the weakness to the DK, but to have a balance in the game there has to be some weakness, whether its FEAR SPAMMING from a Warlock or whatever it may be that affects all others anyways.

I have played for 2.5 years and the social aspect of the game is what really keeps it going for me. Dailys just get plain boring, but the interaction with other people is priceless at times. Met lots of good people and continue to do so. So its a gamers chat room for me at times. Also it helps to not just have 80s, but also have some new toons to run dungeons etc with the chance that you could die etc vs becoming so strong and tanked out with the best epic armor and socketed gems for theri stats that you become GODLIKE and it gets boring if you dont have to worry about dying in the game and swat bosses like flies. Without a challenge it gets old fast if you are playing the game, just to play the game not not be social.it may not be in the spirt of the post, but i got a 56 druid.

which brings me to, personally i think druids, are kinda for people like me who cant decide what class to be at the start. i mean you can flip flop if you want lol, with respecializing and all...(hmmm balance, feral, resto... what to choose what to choose,)

Solve : Another error...?

ATI I thought

I'll take a quick look

Yep ATI or do you need more info about it (where can I find it Rofl)

and thanks for the replies nowI have patience, but I'm waiting for quite a while now since I first posted my problem... There's a limit to everything you know...well when what I suggested didn't work I ran out of ideas.

As far as the patience thing goes you have TWO options.

1. Continue to patiently wait for some one that knows how to fix your problem to volunteer their time to help you. Since no one here gets paid for the assistance they give they tend to help people as they can and when their time allows not when the person with the problem thinks they have to have it solved by.

2. If you can't wait to be able to play a game then you could always look for additional help elsewhereActually- a bump once a WEEK would be acceptable. I usually don't go past my first page of unread posts. Sorry I can't BRING anything relevant to the issue though I don't want to be ungratefull, but it sometimes takes a while before some1 finally posts something. And when I post something like my post above, I get replies.

So yes, I'll wait, but I hope it's worth it...you've waited this long and yet done nothing to find out what your actual video adapter is. check device manager.

It sounds to me that your drivers are not installed properly or your card is not returning the proper GLstrings or DX caps for the game to realize that the card has TnL... or it doesn't have TnL in the first place.I haven't told anyone CAUSE I don't know where to find it ... I told you guys I'm a noob.

All my other games work properly, so I don't know what's wrong?Hi again guys.

Take a look at this link please.

This guy has almost same problem.

But I don't really understand much of what they say.

Also, I don't think I'm able to download a more recent Graphic driver from ATI. When I got my new hard disk and they tried to reinstalled my drivers, they couldn't install the ATI graphic driver cause it was to new or just didn't worked on my laptop, so they found an even older VERSION which finally worked...

Is this more helpfull to you guys?

Greetz,
BaldirAlso, I tried to do what this guy did (about the driver thingy)

This is what I could find so far :

Chiptype : ATI U1 (C6)
DAC-Type : Internal DAC(350MHz)
Memory and something else, space? (it's in Dutch so I have to translate) 16 MB
Adaptersignseries : Mobility U1
BIOS-info : BK5.0.0 VR001.000.006.004.010.000.001.001 ca 16MB Graphics card is not going to be enough to run Battlefront...I have played it before, and even on m 128MB 9700 Pro it was barely playable on medium with a 2.5GHz Celeron...then I tried BF2....i just about cried.I guess there is no way to update/upgrade it for free, not?

Guess I'll just have to wait till I ever get a better laptop/computer.
Otherwise, how much would a new graphic card be (like kinda very new, with almost all new features) and would it work on a 6 year old laptop?

Also, I have Halo, and my graphic card is a bit to low for it, but it still runs. Graphics are slightly worse but I'm used to it and it ain't that bad.

Is the graphic card able to stop the game from launching? Normally it would just start but with horrible graphic then, not?A laptops graphics card is very rarely upgradeable.

If the graphics card's specs do not cover what the game needs, then yes you are correct in saying that the game will not open.k that sucks. Well, at least I know what the prob is now ty

Solve : Silly question?

Answer»

This maybe a silly question, but I am going to ask anyway. This has been driving me nuts, I have just recently been dabbling with gaming on my PC. I installed Tiger Woods 2008 and everything is perfect, except, the machine wont let me PLAY the game with the controller I bought (logitech dual action USB). It will however let me play using my mouse. I'm sure there is something that I am missing?

Please help the rookie. With some of the logitech CONTROLLERS you have to download software (normally comes with the controllers). I have a couple of those controllers myself. I don't remember if they are plug and play though. Also if you haven't already, check in the game options to see if you can change the controls to WORK with your controller. Sorry if this doesn't help any, hopefully it does though.I did get a driver disk with the controller, and successfully loaded it. I can go into control PANEL and access the controller to run a TEST sequence on it. I also went through all the options that I could find on the game and didn't recognize anything that looked like it would fix the issue. Then the game either doesnt support the controller or your missing the settings in the gameYou probably dont have it set it varies on the game but some times you have to do it manually.keep in mind vista is renown for its lack of plug and play options, i had the same controller it worked with xp, but vista wouldn't recongnize it...you probably needed a seperate driver. there for the answer to your question that your going to ask is in it.

Solve : Game loading problems?

I have a brand new PC game which I DOWNLOADED. I can GET to the menu page, but once I click start and the loading page appears and it will load half way and then stop. I can hear the game going in the background and if I click somewhere I can hear the the game working. Only problem is I'm still stuck on the loading page and cant see the game. Ive noticed that the game intro is extremely laggy, but I don't know what to make of that. I have used games from the same maker that worked fine. I tried lowering the game resolution but the same thing happened. Please help me!!!What game is this? Its actually only a game demo. Its the the demo for the new game Empire Total War. But since its only a demo I fear I will have the same problem when the actual game is released. (although I have had similar problems with other games) Computer specs please.

Free Hard Drive space: 87.5 GB
Hard Drive capacity: 149 GB

Dell is the manufacturer and its a DIMENSION 8400

The computer seems perfectly capable of RUNNING the game.

You MENTIONED this happened with other games too? What games?

Also, when did this all happen? The same thing happened with Rainbow Six Vegas 2, and Knights of the old Republic 2. I have Call of Duty 4, and Medieval 2 Total War which both run perfect. I downloaded the Demo for Empire Total War two days ago on the 20th, and as soon as I downloaded it I got the problem, never got past the menu. Same for the other games that never worked which I downloaded over a year ago.I'm actually not so sure what's wrong. This problem sounds exactly the same as what my friend has, and I haven't been able to solve it.

Are there any error messages at all? There is no error message.

I was wondering if my graphics card has anything to do with it. I have a ATI RADEON X300/X550/X1050 Series card. Quote from: classicgk37 on February 22, 2009, 08:40:11 AM

Ok so my computer apprently is a piece of junk. . i play World of Warcraft and only have this programme on while i am playing nothing in the background.. i can barely do anything in the main cities and i normally get lag spikes when caster as i am a mage. .

My comptuer spec is. .

512 MB DDR2 RAM
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
Intel Celeron 420 processor. .

Now my question is. . if i upgraded my RAM to a 2gb would i have no lag problems? as i am a raider ofc. . and well want this sorted cause it's annoy

Thanks!!Welcome to the forums.

I'm now a WoW gamer, but from what I understand the hardware requirements can be quite steep to get acceptable PERFORMANCE in more populated areas.
Your computer is fairly low-end for gaming, especially the graphics chip.
Is this a laptop or a desktop system?argh crap. .

it's a desktop =\Well, in that case you can easily do some upgrades, if you like.
Is this machine pre-built? (e.g. Dell, HP etc) if so, what's the model?
If it's custom built, what are the other specs? If you don't know, click here.
What's your budget?It's a eMachines, pre-built
Erm the model is E4231

and well i don't so much money so err not alot lol

say about 200?What currency, USD?English Pound's

But can also be in USD pref English pound thoughGBP is good, I'm in England so it's much easier.
I'll put together some info for you now.Ah awesome, thank's alot for your help.

I mean i've been raging abit at my computer for being so low budget =\

I'm taking a computer course in college about this but i still dont get most if thisI don't mean to double post but if you didn't read my edited post i did this for safer measure, and i hope it doesn't affect anyone?

Anyway. .

I've also been talking to my friend about this problem and he has told me to go to here and this link http://www.ebuyer.com/product/158995
and told me to get this graphics card and then get a cheap RAM 2gb for around £30]

should this be enough for it too run smoothOK, here's what I think looks good to me.
2GB of RAM - £22.99.
Radeon 4830 graphics card - £86.24
New 580W power supply - £57.49
New processor - £39.09
Comes out to a tad over £200, but you perhaps could drop the graphics down to save a little, or BUY your CPU from somewhere else like CEX (if you have one nearby, those CPUs go for around £25, which is a steal).

Hope this helps.

I see your post, and that graphics card isn't bad for the price, but the 4830 is much more pwoerful and better bang for your buck. If you wanted to save some cash the 4670 is what I would recommend though.Just to say though...

I have a machine here that isn't listed in my specs,
AMD Athlon XP 2200+ (1.8GHz)
1GB DDR RAM
Radeon 9700 Pro

and this runs WoW WoTLK at lowest apart from spell detail at full, at 1280x1024 at 60+ FPS
so at medium settings at 1024x768 I still get 60+ FPS.

So really the only thing you seem to be needing is a graphics card, rather than an integrated chip.

Also the Celeron series never really was that great at games.Kurtis - thanks for stepping in, it's helpful to have some comment from someone else who's played/plays WoW.
A graphics card will require a new power supply anyway, or at least I'd highly recommend one.
The Core-based Celerons are pretty decent actually for the price, I've built a few systems round them and found them excellent, the only disadvantage being that the 4 series are only single core (hence the newer E1200 and upwards series).Quote from: Calum on March 05, 2009, 01:50:20 AM

It is ok

Yes that card will want a newer power supply if it is under 500W for optimal use.

I admit, I have not had much experience with the newer celerons, only the older ones, up to skt 478, but only the ones before celeron D, which only had 128KB of l2 cache.

In comparison, my old 2.5Ghz celeron is FAR outstripped by the 2200+ @ 1.8 GHz, even in games, using the exact same graphics card (Radeon 9700 Pro)

That being said, your celeron 420 is of a totally different series and timeframe, so is alot more EFFICIENT at it's tasks.

I also noticed you were running Windows Vista too, this can degrade performance with poorly WRITTEN drivers, and also with memory usage/page file, as you only have 512MB Ram.

Both the graphics cards you and Calum have posted are overkill for getting 60FPS in game, i would expect over 100+ with either card & 2GB of ram, with the main bottleneck being the CPU.

Solve : Can't run "The Rise of Atlantis" Game?

Answer»

Help! My wife and I are addicted to "The Rise of Atlantis". We ORIGINALLY downloaded the free version on GameHouse.Com (with commercials) and played approx. 3 weeks with no problems. The game locked up and wouldn't open. I un-installed the game and ASKED their tech. support for help. They said to remove the game and also told me to go to (regedit) then to go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER and delete the "Rise of Atlantis" file and also to go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and do the same thing. I did all that. I tried downloading the same game from other sites IWIN, etc. with the same results. The game downloads and the installation Wizard INSTALLS the game. When I click on the ICON the hour glass appears and then dissappears. The game doesn't open. I have 5 or 6 other paid Gamehouse games that run fine, I bought the "Rise of Atlantis" CD on Amazon. It came today. I installed the game successfully but it does the same thing. I click to "Play Now" and the game never opens. I have Windows XP Home edition, plenty of spare on my hard drive, DirectX 9 with upgrades, All drivers are up to date. Like I said all other games run and open and play fine. It's like there is some file on my computer blocking the game from opening. I don't get a security warning from my security software. Does anyone have any idea on what I can check? Any suggestions would greatly appreciated!!!!!
If its currently installed, you could try uninstalling it with http://www.martau.com/tu_download.php

That might work but I'd be out another $30 if it doesn't. I've ALREADY got $20 in the game itself. Thank you for your reply though.Hi. I ran into a similar problem. I played the game on AOL and loved it. I found it on J&R Music and Sound and bought it along with Magic Match. Rise of Atlantis loaded successfully, but would not play. Magic Match by the same company, works fine. I called J&R and asked for a replacement. I just received the replacement and it is doing the same thing. I had contacted Oberon with the first CD problem on line and found a phone number. I never received a call back. I had to clarify that I did not download the game from them, but it is their product. I received several emails and the last one is asking me to download the game from them. I have not responded as yet. Like you, I believe I will be charged for the download. I have two CD of Rise of Atlantis which are not working. I may attempt to reach Oberon again stating I found this site and if you look, this problem had 333 hits before me. I think that would indicate other people are having the same problem. If I find out any answer, I will post it here for you to find. If not, I will return both games, with great disappointment. If you should find out an answer, please post for me to find. Thanks Strawberry. If I find out anything I'll let you know. I'd appreciate you doing the same. Thank you!!

ROFL! [sarcasim]that one has the best graphics[/sarcasim]

Graphics aren't everything. Today's children don't seem to realize that...
A game can have the best graphics in the world, but if the gameplay sucks and it's no fun to PLAY, then it's a crappy game.

COD had a decent storyline, REALISTIC graphics (for it's time), and it is still fun to play. It easily scores higher than a lot of these new games, with their fancy graphics, but pathetic stories and zero fun factor.

And I don't rag on graphics because my PC can't handle it. As you can see from my specs, I'm more than capable of running Crysis at the higher levels.Like crysis for excample? No story line but the best graphicsI liked Call of Duty: Finest Hour (had that on PS2...excellent game)... other than that I've only played CoD 3 on Xbox 360, multiplayer, and it was a really bad game.
I thought Crysis was an excellent game myself, and the story wasn't all that bad. It had holes, sure, but I play for the gameplay only...if I wanted to be TOLD a story I'd watch a FILM or read a book.CoD4 is kickass but i'd still prefer CoD5 as it offers co-op and the storyline is a little more interesting compared to find-the-terrorist-and-bump-him-off storylines we see in our games and our movies. Yeah the weapons in CoD5 are a little bit retarded but hey, who'd wanna play a game with uber-good weapons? I'd buy CoD6 when it COMES out though. I hope it's like CoD4 with co-op and survival modes. I have played 5 for 3 days and I returned it. Don't bother. COD4 is by far the best FPS console game to date.

Solve : Transferring game saves?

Answer»

I know that with most new GAMES you can transfer a SAVE to another computer by going into that game's folder, but some games (particularly old ones) don't show saved files in that folder. Does anyone have any idea where the saved game is being stored and how I might transfer it? The game I'm having the problem with is HYDRO Thunder.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.Anything here: http://www.gametap.com/play/gameInstructions/130000450 ?Have you looked in My Documents? The saved games/settings would either be in the same directory as its program files or in a folder in My Documents.Quote from: Carbon Dudeoxide on February 23, 2009, 02:01:34 AM

The saved games/settings would either be in the same directory as its program files or in a folder in My Documents.

Could also be in AppData (which is hidden), or COMMON Files in Program Files.Any idea how to make the files in AppData un-hidden?Go to Control Panel > Folders Options > View tab. Be sure to uncheck again if you find the files.
