Bought several pc games and after installing them onto my desktop (XP system), I can't get the same ones to install onto my laptop (Vista). I thought I might try to use the DOS to install....as you can see, I'm so not computer literate.

Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated!

Compared to earlier numbers, raising my computer up reduced GPU temp: (87C-73C), HDO (41C-37C), Core 0/1 ( 61C-55C), core (87C-73C) and ambient (82C-71C)


I just bought some compressed air to clean it out (I live in a very dry and dusty area and a lot of dust came out) and shut it down for 5 hours and these were my initial cold readings:

Immediate 30 minutes later

The biggest drop is temp1, though not sure what temp 1 is.

Finally, here is the temps after I finished playing the game for 1 hour (no jumpiness at all after I cleaned it out!!!!!!):

I didn't buy the cooling pad because I wanted an opinion from you guys first regarding it:

I have my computer on 1 inch "stilts" right now to circulate the air. I have heard some discussion about whether or not the extra fans on the cooling pad are effective or not because it still REQUIRES your computer to power those fans, thus generating heat. Especially with my condition, I just wonder. I thought about putting a small fan beside it to maybe bring in some extra cooling. Your thoughts?


PS If you didn't catch what I said above, after blowing it out, I played bioshock for 1 hour and had 0 jumpiness. This was on max SETTINGS too. I think I can conclude that it was heating and dust. Or maybe just dust.

Temperatures, you care for are:
mainly - core0, and core1 (your CPU temps)
secondly - GPU=core
NOTE. You always have to look at SpeedFan readings just for this particular computer, because SF readings are not always obvious. For instance, sometimes CPU temp will be listed as Temp2.

61C-62C after playing a game for a while are perfectly fine.I have to admit, I'm SURPRISED that the temperature would drop that much just by cleaning out the dust. You must have had a lot. But regardless, I'm glad to see that things have improved quite a bit. As long as this keeps up, you shouldn't have to worry about fixing/replacing anything, which is a major plus. To be honest, I didn't have high hopes, but after seeing your new results, I think this should work out. Your temperatures aren't perfect, but they're certainly better.

If I were you, I would still consider getting a cooling pad, as long as you can find one that's fairly cheap. You don't need anything fancy. And I wouldn't worry too much about the power. They don't use much power at all (there might even be some that are battery-operated), and the little bit of extra PSU usage shouldn't cause an increase in temperatures. Personally, I think it would be a good investment, but maybe that's just me.Awesome, thanks again for the advice. I will seriously consider buying a fan for my laptop to extend the life for at least another year.

I am a very big halo fan! I think it's one of the best FPS games out there! But I have to say that I was really disappointed with the ending of Halo 3. I've installed rollercoastertycoon 3 on my VISTA desktop, and i meet all requirements for installation and i've seen that rct3 is upposed to be compatible w/vista and the setup runs fine, but when i open it up there is C++ RUNTIME library error Which SAYS "ABNORMAL program termination". it worked once, but it never worked again, even after re-installation. I'm new here and I tried searching the forums but, despite the embarrassing number of ours I spend on my computer, I'm not too familiar with it or searching forums

Anyway, I have a friend that is coming to visit me for a month and we are looking for games that we can play together. I remember playing Diablo somewhere at... somepoint in time and the computers had been networked together so we could be in the same room playing.

I'm looking for SOMETHING like that, and I really hope that I have all the info right... uhm, hopefully fantasy/rp kind of games where we won't need access to the internet. Also, the game needs to be compatible with vista, but hopefully XP as well.

I take it this is a shop bought computer? Have you thought of building your own and buying all the components for it? Just a thought.

I personally don't like McAfee, we use it at work and I don't really trust it. It seems a lot of new computers come with it preloaded for 60 days free trial. I recently bought a new laptop and it had McAfee on it. I changed to Avast which has done a great JOB so far, and when my licence key on my desktop runs out I will upgrade to Nod32 which is awesome.

Alright, so here's the issue; At random intervals while playing Fallout 3 the game will crash leaving nothing but a completely unresponsive black screen. After which the computer will emit one beep for no apparent reason thereafter. At first I thought, alright, my old system did something like this when the 7600GT overheated. Checked the temps, Hottest thing is the GPU, and its at 52C the highest, which is roughly 122F, which is ice cold for a GPU with like, 50MB of VRAM free being bogged to h**l and back with a massive post-nuclear wasteland being rendered. (used everest to log them, it logged up until the very end. IE, the black screen of dh00m as I've named it). Then I thought power supply could be faulty, but that's not the case either, voltages are solid. So I tested the RAM, over six hours and no errors with memtest. Hard drives are also fine, so I thought it was the DVD drive maybe (Kind of weird, but I figured, what the heck? Ain't much else could be causing it). So I tried a no CD exe, still no go (yes the game is legit, my brother bought it for me). I don't guess it could be the motherboard, it only does this with Fallout 3, tried new and old drivers on EVERYTHING, got nothing. Thought the nVidia chipset and GPU drivers might be conflicting, so I didn't install the chipset drivers for the NIC and onboard video, still no go. I've plowed through Prey, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl, and countless other games without an issue like this. I've tried everything imaginable, h**l, I even re-installed windows on this 60GB 2.5" SATA150 drive 'cause I thought the IDE bus might be overloading since they only threw it on for optical drive use mostly. But, nope, few hours of playing, sometimes less than an hour, bam, black screen. Sometimes it just happens while wondering around the wasteland, sometimes it happens while going into buildings or places, but its only happened a time or two indoors (not including in a city like the city of Megaton, one time I looked at the d**n bomb and then that nutjob cromwell for the church of atom and bam, crash). So, honestly, I have no clue whats causing it, however, with the same copy it does not do this on my Dell Inspiron 1720 notebook, just with this desktop. Anyone got any ideas?

As a note, during the black screen of dh00m, the system, as I said, is unresponsive, mouse movement, keyboard actions, nothing works. Although the left monitor (secondary) still shows the background or whatever was on it. Its froze though, mouse cursor doesn't even move. Oddly enough I can usually hear the last bit of audio, not looping most of the time. Just playing like it would in game. Though sometimes when it loops its an insult and I have to listen to that 'till the d**ned thing realizes I'm holding the power BUTTON and turns off. And as I said, the motherboard speaker (At least I think that's the motherboard speaker) beeps occasionally.. Come to think of it, after I get some sleep, I'm going to try to force the system into another black screen and see if I can find the source of the beeping. It will be either the power supply or the motherboard.. Hoping its the motherboard 'cause that's way cheaper than a d**ned good power supply. Though.. Come to think of it, the beep is a bit too muffled to be the motherboard.. I'm almost certain I'm overloading my power supply with the 8800GS, which means every bit of money I get from Christmas will go into a new power supply. Though, don't hesitate to post your opinion about the problem, if you've got somethin' to say, say it! Might help me save what little money I can get and invest in something a bit more useful than another PSU, like, more RAM. Would kill for another gig or two, or a better CPU, or both if the budget permits. Though, with this issue, looks the the only thing I'll be getting is a new PSU or motherboard.

I've uploaded a log of the temperatures, voltages, and other stuff below in a .rar, plus a system report generated by everest if it helps. There both simple HTML files, easy to read. I had to upload them in archives 'cause HTML files can't be uploaded to CH.

As a side note, no, my desktop is not overclocked. I overclocked it a lil a while back but something didn't seem to like that and windows would sometimes hang, so I undid that quickly.

Please, if anyone has ANY idea what could be causing this, tell me! Its driving me nuts, 'cause I have to practically have the left and right mouse button binded to quicksave to prevent from being crashed and screwed out of winning an annoying battle or somethin'. I hope this isn't a hardware issue, might be, been thinking the PSU is getting too much load and is trying to shut the system off or kicking off a rail and the drive happens to be on that rail. Maybe its kicking off both and the system simply freaks out 'cause of the lack of power? That could cause damage over time I think.. Either way, I don't know, I'm confused, annoyed, and getting kind of p***ed off. Alright, got it to crash again earlier. Took close to two hours, usually does it in a matter of minutes. Anyway, the beeping is in fact coming from my motherboard. What it means, I don't know, the motherboard will beep every 30s roughly when it goes into a black screen. Nothing is overheating, maybe the power supply is shutting off to prevent being overloaded or going into some safe mode? I'll note again, no the system is not overclocked, and yes this only happens with Fallout 3. So, please, if you have any idea what is causing this, tell me.

Yeah, tried patching it. For the record, I tried both my legitimate copy and a pirated copy I got from a friend, neither work, patched, or otherwise. Both give the same black screen. I tried the pirated copy thinking maybe, just maybe, my copy was bunked. Seems to be something related to my desktop its self though. I've played Counter-Strike: Source for hours on end without a single problem with the graphics completely maxed out at 1280x1024. I dunno what is causing Fallout 3 to do this to my system. I'm going to upgrade the RAM and possibly the drive this Christmas. Definitively getting a new DVD-RW drive, I had to SCROUNGE an old 32X CD-RW out of a stripped apart HP Pavilion just to install Counter-Strike: Source. The drive is as slow as it is old, but, it works for now. I can't really re-install my copy to see if I can get it to work until I get another DVD-RW drive. Mine died, and I went off and destroyed its tray.I had a friend who reported he constantly crashed as well. I actually played this game 8 hours a day till I finished it (I know, I know, don't hate me because I'm beautiful) and it crashed once or twice for me in the period of ... 20 days?

One thing I did -before- I got the game in was update every single driver I could think of;

• Videocard
• CPU (+ Dual core optimizer patch by AMD)
• Chipset
• Soundcard

I need some help with settings for CAMTASIA recorder 6. The automatic setting for video configuration is too laggy for HD runescape. I have to use manual setting but i dont know what SCREEN capture rate is (frames/sec). i tried 30 and 80 but both made video laggy. does anyone know what frames/sec i should use. Also need help with video compression i have it on microsoft video 1 but i dont know if thats the right setting for runescape video.

I have the battlefield 2 pack which comes with battlefield 2 and battlefield 2 special forces in one box. The keys worked fine before. But I have now SWITCHED a 8500GT in my system to a 9500GT and single mode works fine. When I LOG in to play multiplayer online, always getting cd key is invalid error.

Should I reinstall? I have latest patch installed already....

well it mostly happens while im playing counter-strike SOURCE, but it does happen in other games.

for some reason, while I'm playing, the words that i type will suddenly CONVERT to Chinese letters. even when I RIGHT click on the words and change the option back to English it does it again anyway. Not only does it convert my words, my number keys stop WORKING, and whenever I hold down a key, for example just holding down "W" to walk, the game starts lagging.

first off, here are my specs: Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition (Build Service Pack 23790), AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000 3.1 GHz, Nvidia Geforce 8200 on BOARD graphics -256mb, 450 watt psu, 4Gb Kingston pc2 8500 ram, 500Gb Western Digital HD, ASUS M3N78-EMH HDMI motherboard.

I have had this computer a little over a month now and it has done this pretty much since i started playing games on it, which was a week or two later. What happens is i will be playing a game like Half-Life 2 and it will typically run at around 70 fps but after about 20 seconds of playing it will drop down to 3-5 fps for about 6 or 7 seconds then will run smooth for about 15 seconds and do it again. It does this on all games i own and makes it very hard to play them for more than 5 minutes. i pass the recommended specs by far on all of my games and would like to know if anyone else can help me. thanks in advance.Sounds like another process is stealing your processing power.

And, just to get an idea, how many processes are active?there are usually around 33 running. just a few minutes ago i disabled almost everything that wasn't a system process and got it down to 25 processes. i then tried to play a game and it seemed to help at first, but after about five minutes it was doing the same old thing again. Tan_Zait is in all games, and I've downloaded all the updates i know of for my games. I play mainly FPS but i play some games like Supreme COMMANDER and SID MEIER's Pirates and it does it on them too.If you know how to, take a look inside of your pc and maybe have a bit of a test and see what happens if you change the motherboard, or the hard disk. Try something like that with some spear parts that you might have around the house.

when i was younger... like 5-7 years ago.. i remember playing an online computer game, something i downloaded off the internet. It was a great game that id like to find again. In the game, the player drives a spaceship THING around in a world collecting marbles by running into them. There are many other players in the same level. my computer game can't continue so i can play, it is grudge mu online, it ALWAYS TELLING me "error code5" someone help me FIX my computer,, plssss... Several THREADS on the official forums seems to suggest this is because of AVG. Apparently AVG detects GrudgeMU as a virus. If you got AVG installed, disable it while you play the game.

I've had this game since about 3 days before it was RELEASED due to the shop I get it from BROKE the release date (again) for it. I love this game and have been a fan since back in the good ol' Champ Manager 96/97 days. PROBABLY earlier.

I'm slightly addicted, one of the few GAMES where an hour feels like 10 minutes for me.

Thought it would be fun to see if anyone else out there plays it... And recomend players!

Why are file SIZES so big these days.....Games are getting more complex. I thought it would be a good learning experience and bought this game through EA's online download program. The download for it was 6.4GB and it took about three HOURS, but overall was a good experience being able to buy a game late at night and being able to play it later that night.

My internet is being fed through my school and my school is a goverment funded school.
Until resently everyone has been able to enjoy the PLEASURES of on-line gaming.
From everything I have gathered our school has installed NEW cameras using our network

My PC is a Dell OptiPlex GX100 and it runs the latest Windows XP. My graphics cardis and Intel 82810-DC100 Graphics Controller.

Otherwise I'd strongly suggest getting some type of improved video card for your computer.When I tried installing the update, it said I already had a newer version of the update. So I've decided to upgrade my graphics card, but I don't exactly know what type of graphics card to buy. Because I don't know what kind of graphics card this "Intel 82810-DC100 Graphics Controller" is (is it even a video card or is it attached to the motherboard?). For this PC should i buy an AGP or PCI video card? "Intel 82810-DC100 Graphics Controller" is an on-board video chip.
You'll want to get AGP video card, which is faster, then PCI.
You have to check, though, if you have AGP slot on your motherboard.
Get a card with 512MB RAM, which will cost you around $100.

I just downloaded a "TRIVIAL Pursuit Unlimited" game and when I opened up the folder it shows CD1, CD2 and Intrusioni (Italian for instructions I assume?). Inside the CD1 folder is a Cpy-tpu1 Bin file and a Cpy-tpu1 Image Files. In CD2 there is a Cpy-tpu2 Bin file and a Cpy-tpu2 Image file. I know it's a lot to ask and I'm not even sure I should be asking, but can someone lay it out for me in a simple step by step PROCEDURE as to how to install this darn THING and eventually play it? By the way, it is Italian within the Intrusioni folder and I unfortuantely don't understand,,,,,OTHERWISE I'd try to do this myself. thanks in advance."Bin" MEANS, it's an actual CD image. Your best option would be to burn that CD1 folder to CD, and it should work as regular installation CD.

I was having some PROBLEMS with diablo 2 on my laptop so I reinstalled it. I have all my saved games from before in a folder which I MOVED into the diablo folder once I reinstalled it, but when I go to the main MENU in diablo they dont show up. How do I get diablo to play those saved games?are they the save files the same version as the game is?

I play warrock on-line, and my machine is a HP w/amd64 3800+, 2 gigs of ram, ATI x700 video card. I have a DSL connection via ATT/Yahoo.
I experience alot of whats called "lag" in the game where the graphics get jerky and slow. Sometimes it starts off good, but the longer I play, and just some games I join, are really jerky and slow.
The other players call this Lagging, and ask about "pings"... what are they talking about? How can I solve this issue? Is it my connection, or processor speed, or just warrocks servers?In a lot of online games, when you are choosing a server, it gives you a huge list. There is usually a column for server NAME, game time, etc. One of these columns should be called "ping" or "latency". Choose a server that has a ping under 100. Also, try lowering your graphics settings. It might be lagging because your machine can't run the game properly.Im warrock player, Ping or Latency is what others bring data from their computer to the game server. The more is badder. 1-99 is good. 100-199 is ok. 200-over is bad. You have the option to choose which ping to allow the users to join in game with you (if only u make the room). If you didnt make the room, the info about the ping can be seen far right of the LISTING room names. Try at least join 100 and under. Lower total of pings that people in the room can be LESS lagging. Also set all your settings at low, turn off the shader model, and turn off the blood effect. You should have (almost no lag)

My secret to stop lag...

Open up the warrock, but dont click the ok button yet. Open up the task manager, close down the explorer.exe and any other PROGRAMS you are running, then close the task manager. Go back to warrock and click ok. you will have almost absoultley no lag at all. Hope this helps. Cheers~

As I understand it is "page file" a part of the hard drive which is used in the same way as RAM.

Me to had technical problems with Stalker and therefore red about these things, althought I have not tried to change my page pole size myself. Therefore I can not provide much help. What I can do is to point out a few links with USEFUL INFORMATION.

Hey GUYS. I recently picked up Europa Universalis III. I installed it to my laptop (Dell Inspiron E1505) and had no problems. I start the game up, it runs through the pre-game cinematics with no problems either. However, when it COMES time for the game to start, it shuts down and a Error box pops up. It reads: "128MB of video memory is required to run this game!". OK, but I wouldn't think that that would be a problem. My card is an ATI Radeon X1300 (256MB). So what exactly is going on? Did you try to contact the game maker?I did a bit of reading on the EU3 forum and the game seems to have issues with INTEGRATED Intel graphics chipsets. If you haven't already done so, download and install the 1.1 patch from the official website and check Dell's support site for newer graphics card drivers. If it still doesn't run I think you should contact Paradox (the company behind the game) and find out whether or not a fix is underway.
But the main issue here is that your laptop was never meant for gaming and even if you get the game running it might not run very well.
