Hey all, playing World of Warcraft for a bit, but recently had some issues with graphics, need some help and stuff:

This mostly has to do with graphic issues. Because the graphics card is decent, I play the game on its highest settings. A few weeks ago I noticed the graphics became almost jerky at times. Was really wierd. Scanned for spyware, updated software for video drivers, and then did a defrag and still to no avail.


Not sure what to do next, any suggestions?I had a problem like this and found that my hard drive was fragmented badly, and the swap space required for the game being that I had 2GB of Ram was set to 3GB to 4GB swap space.

I defragged and the choppiness WENT away

Check your fragmentation is my suggestion.

I see many private WoW servers online and found a few links to download the software and database to create your own.

Question I have is has anyone here successfully created one and if so what software, HARDWARE, and database did you use. Also any other tricks to making it work?

I am not sure if it is legal or not as well, but I see a whole bunch of them online and it would be neat to have a bandwidth friendly method of a lan party at our company that doesnt eat up the single DSL connection that 5 locations share for internet access.

Being that I pay my $15 a month to Blizzard I dont see it as piracy as long as you pay them their $15 and each member of the lan party has a real ACTIVE account in which they are paying their $15 as well.

DaveThe end user license agreement for WoW specifically states that this isn't allowed, and you RISK having your account banned for doing so. WoW does contain monitoring tools to see what programs/websites are running when WoW is (Blizzard admitted to this). It does this to prevent people from USING hacks and visiting websites that contain exploits and sell gold.

As for it being illegal or not, it depends on where you live.

I, for one, am not... Some ridiculous decisions from the officials, but each of them COULD have went either WAY (except for one in particular, right at the end haha) so can't have too many complaints. Overall, it was a great game to watch and, from my perspective, it was great to SEE Scotland playing the way they did at times.I feel sorry, Scotland didn't go through...My old country is in, though, by beating Belgium 2:0. You can find your VIDEO card's memory from either on the card itself in some cases, or the BOX it came in.

One particular chipset can have various amounts of memory, just depending on who manufactured it and what they felt like putting on it.My V-card came with the computer, so there's no box. I have to take apart the computer? I can't PULL up a file?If it helps, I it first started happening about a week and a half ago when I was playing Civilization 4 - Beyond the Sword.
I've seen the exact same aforementioned KOTOR glitch of gliding around on one leg and what not.

The disks for my games aren't scratched and in happens on games that don't use disks (like WoW) also. I've tried uninstalling the games and it still happens on the other ones.

I've tried clearing my temp files, defragmenting about ten times, and changing the graphics settings. Nothing helped.

I'm USING an Nvidia 8500 with a 163.75 Driver. I posted the exact problem and my system specs a while ago.

Does anyone even have an idea about what this is?

You can download the free TRIAL from that page.From the Control Panel, double click on add/remove programs, click on the 'Windows Setup' tab and tick the check box games from the components to be installed/uninstalled and click ok.I tried to go into the add/remove program of window setup,

I play COD2 and from what I have HEARD from many
players, the single player game is awesome,
multi in cod4 is HARDCORE two or three shots and your dead
but there are a ton of naders and marties
NEED to limit those and airstrikes so skill and reflex is more of a factor

My COMPUTER did surprisingly well. I definitely need a better video card, though.

Well I have this game from a sold out range (or other similar company) and I am confused. The microsoft website details for the MECH packs details SEVERAL upgrades and maps that are only usable with the mech packs, YET my version has there options. However, the unique mechs are not selectable in my version - in the instant action section - yet I have seen on two separate OCCASIONS, one of the unique mechs in the campain tournament fights.
Any have any answers for this?

At this POINT I don't see why any gamer would switch his primary gaming OS from XP to Vista. Every benchmark test I've seen shows that XP is speedier than Vista. Why hamper your system with Vista? If you disable as many startup items and services as possible, XP's speed and responsiveness improves considerably. I also don't run a virus SCANNER since I know what I'm doing online, and I'd recommend that option to advanced users who know how to steer clear of the pitfalls that you can encounter online.

That's a fair point . . . but, what about future games which will be Vista-only?
Arguably, Windows 98SE is a better choice for gaming than Windows XP, as it's faster on the same hardware and has much less overhead.
That doesn't mean that gamers shouldn't use XP though, the security reasons alone should tell you that.
Vista at the moment is not a great choice for most gamers, but when DirectX10 games become more common, it will become the platform of choice for enthusiasts wanting to play the latest games.When you mentioned DirectX 10 it reminded me of how Halo 2 will supposedly be available only for Vista. From what I've read, a company called Falling Leaf produces software that will allow ONE to play Halo 2 on Windows XP. Do you know anything about this? Anyone familiar with the game Faces of War?

After applying the 1.04 patch, the game becomes a lot more difficult. Your soldiers die about twice as fast.

I noticed in game.pak (which is ACTUALLY a zip file) there's a file for each of THREE difficulty levels: easy, normal, HARD. Does anyone know where you adjust this in game? I can't seem to find any OPTION for changing difficulty. Am I MISSING something?

alright, well i just built my new pc and have had zero problems until today. i just find it ironic that it all had to happen in one day....

every time i play counter strike SOURCE, i get this hl2.exe has stopped working error. now, i dont see this BOX until i close my game, and my game functions normally. but i just wanna know how to get rid of it. i tried that thing of typing that command in cmd but it didnt work. i also tried RUNNING it as admin and other various things of that nature... but it has not worked.

do the lag spikes only occur when you are playing over the internet? do they occur when you play CoD4 single player? we have to be certain we are zeroing in on the right thing.

can you hookup directly to the internet, without using the router or the wireless adapter? if you can, see if the lag spikes occur when you are directly connected to the internet.

I just reinstalled XP on a new hard drive, when I try to LOAD any games I get Fatal exception errors. I tried UNINSTALLING and reinstalling the games, but that doesn't work. I need help with this problem, please!!! I will attach a gif. to show the error.

I don't have the TIME right now to keep looking for a confirmed solution but if you google "Fatal exception Error#132 wow" you can find some forums detailing the problem and hopefully you can find a solution.You know, when I reinstalled Windows about 2 months ago, I had this exact same error reinstalling WoW, but just WoW. All other games have installed just fine.

I finally ended up copying the installation from my girlfriend's computer and copying her registry key to match the LOCATION on my system.

This is the dilemma?
When I first installed the game and tryed to open it...when I clicked on play I received a Directx Error Saying:

"Could not start Graphics engine.
MAKE sure you have directx9.0 installed, and Direct3D is Enabled"

Ok.. so I went and made sure I had the Directx installed by going to microsoft and getting it!! then made sure 3D was enabled and ran the test in the Directx diagnostics under tools in system information... all test went ok!

Then I went to driveragent.com and did a driver scan and have updated all drivers. So I thought maybe it was the display adapter that was bad so I put another one in to see if that was the problem... still the same error.. Oh and after doing all this stuff I have rebooted my computer after every update and change outs! I even uninstalled the game and re-installed it... To no avail!!
So thinking it might be the game itself I downloaded it to another comp and it plays fine.. and took the one I knew was good and installed on here...with the same error everytime!!! I am out of ideas of what to try to get it to work on here...so hopefully you guy's/girls can give me an idea on how to eleminate the error and make it work!!

I downloaded it from gamehouse so figuring they are the makers..and I am still waiting for a reply back from them.. seems that is only game that doesn't run on comp..but does run on another comp.. thought I would ask and see if anyone had any suggestions.. while waiting for a reply back from them!!! thinking maybe graphics controller is just out dated!! have updated drivers so maybe just outdated for the newer games?

I did recieve a reply back from gamehouse support finally and they had me send a directx diag.txt to them so they could maybe figure out my problem or at least see where to start.. Thanks Huh. I really thought that was going to fix you up. Lets give the game company some time to figure it out. If you've tried the latest drivers and two different video cards maybe it's a software issue. Keep us updated.One more thing, you could try, is to reinstall DirectX.

We've bought an old PC game "Monster Jam Maximum" for our 6 year old son. There is a slight possibility of bad CD. Did you buy it brand new?

I'm a real fan on the old Wolf 3d DOS game SINCE I had it on my first computer BW [before windows] for the kids. I have downloaded the game and tried to run it on my w98se system with a PIII all-in-one motherboard with PCI components. Thing is I can't get the digital SOUND to load and playing the game with only the computer speaker is no fun! Anyone have a fix for this?I'm not a gamer, but I truly loved that game, and I'm positive, it worked fine on my Win 98 computer.

If you are still having trouble, and you have a Sound Blaster Pro, Sound Blaster 16, or similar card, try turning the volume level of the Line and Mic all of the way down, as it is possible that you are picking up interference.

I have the LOGICAL journey of the zoombinis game and it wont work on my xp.
I GOT told to do this -

1. Copy the contents of the zoombinis CD to a first level folder on your C drive.
2. Right-click on the "SETUP.EXE" file and select "Properties" and then click on the "Compatibility" tab.
3. Check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" box and select "Windows 95" and click "OK".
4. Double-click the "SETUP" and follow the installation instructions.

but now when i put th cd in and try to run it, it says i need to insert the cd ... but it's already in

first of all CLEAN your cd, to be sure it's ok. Just get a soft cloth or kleenext, and get it a bit WET. Then just clean the bottom side of cd carefully.

4MB isn't necessarily low-end, but I have seen a few people with that speed having issues, although not many. Did this problem start before or after you installed Norton? Just out of curiosity, try temporarily disabling the firewall. In FACT, disable the entire program if you don't MIND. Although your firewall is set to allow Steam, it's possible that the Norton program itself is interferring with it.

One suggestion I can give you is to use FixWareout and post your RESULTS on the Steam forums...members there have a much better idea of what other programs would interfere. Two warnings, though...(1) you have to wait for approval before being allowed to post and (2) many members will swear up and down that the problem is with you and not Steam. They'll still try to give you a hand, though.

As you can see, Steam is a major pain when it comes to troubleshooting. It would be best if you could CONTACT Valve for assistance, but it often takes them quite awhile to get back to you (if they ever do).My #100 post

So here is my problem: I have two hard drives in my computer, a 36gb WD Raptor which has XP Pro and a few very small PROGRAMS, and a 250gb WD which I PUT all my programs/games on. About every year I do a clean install of XP by using DBAN and then just simply installing xp. The problem is that even though I have installed all my games onto the 250gb (which I do not wipe) the games will not run because there are some files that are put onto my C: DRIVE even though I installed it on my G: drive. My question is: "Is there a way to clean install my C: drive while not having to reinstall all my programs? What files should I LOOK for in the C: drive that I should copy or whatever so I can paste them back once I've reinstalled XP?" Any help on this subject would be great. Thanks!A lot of games rely on their REGISTRY entries and won't work properly or at all without them. As for making them work, there is no easy way. You could try to exporting the registry settings for each game, then importing them into the new install, but it doesn't always work and messing with the registry can often make things worse.

I would recommend just reinstalling the games.

I recently cleaned out my WHOLE laptop.

I used system RESTORE, and got rid of all the crap that Toshiba installed on my laptop. I unfortunately also uninstalled the Mccafe anti VIRUS and firewall because of it becoming a nuisance.

On the downside NO GAMES will work on my laptop. I've TRIED uninstalling and reinstalling. EVERYTHING you can think of.

Any help???

OH and I can't hibernate my laptop either. You installed using the reinstall disk Toshiba provided?

You NEED antivirus and firewall. So just get either AVG or AVAST (you can get freeware version for both) then get Comodo firewall (also free)

When I play NFSMW the game runs wierd. The FPS are high enough (30ish) but the game sorta slows down then speeds up, its LIKE smooth lagging or something. I just cant catch a break, okay so I INSTALLED Diablo 2 on my pc, and everything is fine until I start the game, the ground goes black with patches of it visible and then the game freezes when I leave town, im running vista and my graphics card is a GMA 950 I believe, ive heard of other ppl having issues with the game and this setup, but I havent seen ANYTHING about the ground dissapearing, please help.
Blizzard recommends you set the shortcut properties as they are in the attached picture. If that doesn't work, they recommend you additionally add XP SP2 compatibility mode.

A lot of games from the Win98 era won't work properly or at all on XP or Vista. Diablo and Diablo II are both EXAMPLES of this.

You should note that if you run the game, pretty much everything else on your computer will either be very slow or take ages to load because the game would probably using80 to 100% CPU Usage.

Running, most game don't take more than about 30-40% CPU usage. Minimized, this amount is even less, dropping to 5% or less. If you're running at 80-100% on a game, you probably don't meet the system requirements for it and can't complain that it runs slow.

Just got an Acer ASPIRE T180 desktop, it came with Nvidia GeForce 6100 installed. Installed City of Heroes, and it looked awesome, until my mouse DISAPPEARED. Ok, I made do. Well. I was just wondering around and always has been thinking of a game that I would love to play. Well here is the thing. Do you guys think there will be a game made, where you will be able to actually conquer the world with actual armies and marching through actual map that takes some time to reach the other country or anything like that. Where you could CHOOSE any country and make advancements with it and then go into war. Yes I know there are plenty of games similar like that but none of them are really fun. They are either turn taking or it's just has nothing to do with the world map. For example some games have this world map, well like civilization, but you have to take turns and it just... well I don't know how to explain it but it gets really boring. The other maps have the conquering thing of the map but EVERY time you want to conquer something you actually conquering the entire area not peace by peace, inch by inch. And for every area you have different map.
I am pretty sure that the game of my dreams is going to be about 10 GB at least, but it would be so much fun to play. Well it's just my opinion though.

I just started to hate microsoft even more. How do they manage to screw up Halo 2 more than Halo 1? I can't get it running in any normal widescreen resolution. In full screen mode I can only pick 800X600, 1024X768, and 1280X1024. In windowed, there are MUCH more resolutions and the closest one to what I WANT is 1280X720, but it looks RETARDED in windowed mode. My monitors native resolution is 1440X900, but according to the wide screen gaming forum that resolution is completely UNSUPPORTED. If 1440X900 is impossible, at least 1280X800 would be okay. I've TRIED adding the -vidmode 1440,900 and 1280X800 to the shortcut but that made no difference. I have an XFX 8600 GT XXX and an HP w1907 monitor. I'm running the game in windows XP using the loader.exe thingy.

you can get better, but for the price id say this is a respectable productheavily DEPENDS on the type of games one plays. For example, I got a Logitech Dual Action, looks and feels like a PS2 CONTROLLER. I thought the analog sticks would get in the way when playing SNES games, (ZSNES) but it doesn't.

Also, it is not advisable to use a joystick for FPS games. ALTHOUGH with all the options and binding you can do nowadays you might just want it for more buttons to push At Radioshack they used to sell PSX to USB adapters, so if you like the PS1/PS2(might even work for PS3) controllers you can connect them to your computer via USB. I bought one. It works great, and it only cost like $8. I'm not sure if they still sell them though, ebay would be a GOOD place to look if your interested.Xbox 1 controllers are USB. All you have to do is rewire the ending and download a driver for it. I'm sure I could find a tutorial if you need one.360 controllers are good, and Logitech 3D extreme pro in the joystick department.

Hello, wondering if anyone can help me with a problem.

After a couple of YEARS in dormancy, i decided to reinstall might and MAGIC 9. I did that sucessfully, patched it and all that good stuff, but i find that when OPENING any kind of menu window within the game, that i have about a 7 second delay, due to a temporary freeze-up or lag. MM9 is a 2002 game, so it is somewhat old.

My computer is newer and i hadnt played it on this one before, and im wondering if anyone can tell me what about it is causing the problem on the older game. I have an intel core 2 duo cpu (the e6750), 4 gigs of pc6400 ram (only 3.25 gigs are recognized because i am using xp pro 32-bit os sp2), 2 internal sata drives (500 gig each), soundblaster xfi xtremgamer sound card, evga nvidia 8600 gts video card 512 megs, mb is gigabyte 965P-DS3, samsung esata dvd burner, and im using direct x9c, and no over clocking.

My current nvidia driver was 163.71, and i noticed there was a new one, so i installed that one, which is 169.21, and that one caused the delay to run up to about 20 to 25 seconds, so it caused even more delay by upgrading.

I went to a mm9 site and someone had similar problem, with someone suggesting using the 30.82 driver from around 2002. Well, i installed that, and when i tried to run the game i got an error, i believe it said mmix error. that occurred with 3 or 4 drivers that i tried from the 2002-2004 era. some of them wouldnt even let me install, got a message saying they are not compatible with my hardware. i tried about 6 or 7 drivers in all.

I then tried the xp compatibility thingy. i tried win 95, win 98, with and without the 256 color option, and then small screen option, and one other option that i dont recall ATM, but none of that worked to get rid of the delay/freeze.

I ran a dxdiag and tested everything and it all tested FINE, and for that matter, elder scrolls oblivion, which is quite new and graphic/cpu intensive, ran fine on my new pc, even with 53 mods that i had installed.

Sorry for the long story but thats it, can anyone help? is it that the program cant handle a duo core cpu? or something about that new vid card? or maybe sata?

I am getting INCREDIBLY frustrated!!!

I keep trying to install my Sims onto my new laptop - I manage to get all the way through all the updates I have (Sims Deluxe, House PARTY, HOT Date, Vacation, Unleashed and Makin Magic) and then if I play immediately it works ok, but if I exit and try to play again or if I don't play immediately, it KEEPS coming up with a message: It has come to our attention that you have installed another Sims expansion pack after The Sims Makin Magic((NOT TRUE)). For this to work properly, The Sims Makin Magic installer will now update your installation. Select OK to proceed. (only option is to press OK) Then the installshield wizard runs, and asks if I'd like to uninstall The Sims Makin Magic, which then actually uninstalls everything, and I'm back to square one. I have reinstalled and restarted more times than I'd care to admit, and would REALLy appreciate it if anyone had some advice, something I could try, or if they could EVEN point out something incredibly obviously wrong that I am doing.......

Okay, so the problem is when I try to play certain games, for example Counter Strike Source, Call of Duty 4, Portal, or Unreal Tournament 2004, it runs smoothly for about half an hour, then it freezes up. I can tab out of the game, and then go back in, but it freezes up again within a few minutes, and eventually I get an error that says "Display Driver Stopped Responding." I have a Zotac 8800 GT.
