How much does making your own good gaming computer cost? It doesn't need to be a super computer by the way. A computer that probably couldn't play Crysis but is still great for other GAMES like Team Fortress 2. Thanks ^^It all depends how you define "good".

I have been playing Neverwinter nights 2 mask of the betreyer. Well i do not have a clue as to what happened but suddenly while playing the screen went black, then the sound started skipping then it stopped. I couldnt get the computer to do anything. Had to do a hard boot, tried starting the game back up again. After i hit the button to load my game back up it did it again about 30 seconds into the load up. tried this a few more times with the same results. Each time having to restart the system.

Have uninstalled the game and reinstalled it and updated all the patches. to 1.11 if i RECALL. the same problem STILL persists. Have looked all over IGN's boards for any information that would sound familiar to my problem. But did not come across anything.

I have not, to my knowlege changed anything in the computer that i could even imagine doing something like this. Only thing i can think of, would be i couldnt update the AVG free edition i have for the last few days. so i uninstalled it and reinstalled it. After MESSING with the game. Before i screamed and pulled my hair out figured it would be best to ask for assistance

Agin any assistance would be great. have you overclocked your CPU or GPU?No not at all. Have you tried RUNNING any other games? Actually i had not tried any other games. But i have fixxed the problem. I spoke to a friend and was TOLD that over time Video cards can vibrate themselves loose of their slots. Well i tried re seating the card an walla. It's working again. Is there anything i can do to fix the vibration problem. its a Nvidia 6600 and it has a fan on the card. Was just wondering. But wanted to thank everyone for their input this issue for me. Aside from removing the fan (not advised) there really isn't anything you can do to stop it. Make sure the card is screwed to the case or otherwise secured if you case doesn't have screws for expansion cards (like mine, it has a special clip that holds the cards down).the back of the card (where the monitor plugs into) should be secured either by a screw or a clip, also, your motherboard should have a clip on the PCI-E slot to secure the connection between the video card and the motherboard.

I don't want upgrade for a while. Is this a good setup?I would prefer buying a single more powerfull graphics card instead of two less powerfull cards. If then still using a motherboard supporting SLI you COULD install one more graphics card in the future.
You did choose a very powerfull processor. Maybe it would be better in perspective of gaming performance to use a less powerfull processor and instread putting the money on a better graphics card.
Good luck!I agree with peregrin, you should get a better graphics card. At least get 2 8600s instead of 8500s. Also, I think it would be better if you got ram in 2X1GB and 2X512 if your motherboard has 4 slots.Go for a Core 2 based system rather than an Athlon one.
Also, the graphics cards are not very powerful at all, it will not even suffice for today's games at high settings.
Get an 8800GT instead, it's about twice as powerful as that setup and will keep you from needing to upgrade for much longer.
Finally, the sound card is basically a waste of money. The Audigy SE is not a good card, I'd recommend either saving the cash and staying with onboard, or making the jump to at least an X-Fi Xtreme Music (NOT the Xtreme Audio).i think that that is an amazing setup. but, if i was you and i had the money i would do the same, except for those graphics cards. I would go with 2 of the 8600 gt xx's. they are very fast and now tiferdirect has a deal out for em at 100 each. a great deal and i have one and can vouge for it. it is very good. and very stable even after my overclock. 675 mhz. i run some pretty demanding games though and it eats em and asks for more hahaRight now, I have that exact card from tiger. That's the best thing to get if you're short on cash. It even runs Crysis!! But the settings are on medium low, 1440X900, and no antialiasing. It still looks awesome though. Half-Life 2 ep. 2 runs at FULL settings and the FPS is never lower than 30, usually sticks around 45, and this is with 8X AA. My only complaint is the fan on this card, it's a little loud, but it's not a big deal.my computer has alot of fans so i cant really tell lol. but i think this card is pretty good. you cant beat it for the price.

Hello, I started playing CSS but I am having a PROBLEM connecting to the servers. It turns out that my Latency or Ping THING is at 2000. Therefore servers wont let me connect. My connection to the internet is a little weird I suppose, it's my DSL modem connected to a hub, on the hub my living room computer is plugged in. Another cable goes from the hub to my room where its connected to a router, and from the router I have two computers connected to it. I don't know if this would be the problem but I'm not really sure. Any help is GREATLY appreciatedon my comp i GO from the hub to a modem to a router then to 4 computers in my house and i get pings from 30-120 depending on where the internet connection is.

i can play homm3. but when i install any of the expansions or chronicles when i go to play the load screen comes up and every thing freezes. this computer used to play all these games. i downloaded a chess game for the PC, CALLED Real Chess. It works perfectly, it even lets me save my game and lets me do a turn again if I want. The only thing is: I can't minimize the game's SCREEN and WHENEVER I quit the game, annoying popups appear. Does anybody know a free, good working and downloadable chess game? I have a PSOne that still works. I still play Suikoden and Final Fantasy Tactics on it. Funny enough, my first PS2 (the original large one) died after a few years of much use. I replaced it with the slim version a few years back, and it still works fine now. I won't be purchasing a PS3 however. I kinda got out of console games, but have been considering getting a Wii.

Ok this is driving me mad. I have a 4 meg connection and i am constantley getting desynec in games. Nobody else on the server is getting this, so its obviously got SOMTHING to do with my connection. What do you mean by desynced? Are you getting disconnected, are you lagging, etc?The first thing to do would be to contact your ISP to make sure it's not a problem on their end.If its not at there end what could it be.

My problem is that uninstallation of the game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. apparently not uninstall all of the game.

I did install S.T.A.L.K.E.R. SHADOW of Chernobyl on my computer to try if the previous patches and graphics drivers had resolved a problem with crashes I have with this game. unfortunately it did not resolve the crashes (But this is not the problem I NEED advise with right now). Therefore I uninstalled the game again.

Before I installed the game I did check how much disk space I had used. It was 106 GB.
When I had installed the game the used disk space was 112 GB.

When I had uninstalled the game I did expect the used diskspace to be back to 106 GB again. But it was not, it was 108 GB.

Since it was two GB more then before I installed the game I thought that something went wrong with the uninstallation. Therefore I did install the game once more and then uninstalled it directly after (this time I uninstalled it with "Add or REMOVE Programs" instead of the uninstall option in the programs menu).

After the second uninstallation I checked my used disk space and now it was 110 GB!

I tried to use a system restore point from before I installed S.T.A.L.K.E.R. the first time, but this did not reduse the used disk space. I also tried to search after files containing "stalker" or "s.t.a.l.k.e.r" on The hard drive but did just find an empty folder.

So my question is: Why does this occur? Is there anything I can do about it?
Some advice would be much appresiated, the problem is not that I am short of diskspace, but I don't like the idea of having several GB unusefull data on my hard drive.

I would highly recommend this if you have the money and if your board supports it.

Isn't dual core completely pointless for gaming because games never use both cores? Oh and that game runs well on my system, AMD Athlon 4200+, 1 GB RAM, GeForce 8600.

First, I have spent HOURS trying to setup this ****ing piece of shitware. Due to this I have become EXTREMELY mad so please forgive me if I go crazy.

I use XP SP2. I have read all readme FILES that COME with the trains for BVE4 and so far I got ABSOLUTELY no help from them. BVE4 requires a "CSV" file to load a game but when I unzip the ZIP folder to the proper installation directory for the train BVE4 doesn't load it because there is no "CSV" file. Only DAT, CFG and picture files exist in the folder. So tell me, WHAT THE **** IS GOING ON?

I installed The Matrix on my system an when I run it the intro is all distorred. I don't know what to do I uninstalled my old Sims complete game because it kept freezing on start up and bought Sims Deluxe and installed that. When I try to PLAY the new game a pop up comes on saying.....It has COME to our attention that you have installed another Sims expansion pack after the Sims Deluxe Edition. For this to work properly, the Sims Deluxe Edition Installer will now update your installation. Press OK to continue. When I press OK it looks like it is INSTALLING SOMETHING then it ASKS if I want to uninstall Sims Deluxe. I did that and it is doing the same thing when I reinstall it. Hello... Has anyone else downloaded and installed the Open Source DOOM and imported the WAD files to the game? I installed the game and cant seem to find the WAD files that should be available.

ThanksThe .WAD files come with Doom. They don't come with the open source versions because they aren't free. Either go buy the game to get the .WAD FILE, or look around on the internet for custom levels.Thanks,

Need some suggestions for old Windows games. They need to be either 2D or very light 3D and capable of running at 640x480. Can anyone think of any games that fit that description?

One of the funniest adventure games, ever. I guess I can add Command and Conquer and Red Alert to the list. Both of them in their Windows VERSIONS (available on C&C: The First Decade) run great and are 640x480. Also pulled out my Space Quest Collection, which runs nicely as WELL. Digging through my stacks of CDs, I also found an old copy of SimTower, which runs perfectly well in XP and on wide screen since it runs in whatever size and shape of window you give it.

I'm looking for things to install on my EeePC. Since the hardware isn't exactly superb, it's kind of limited on what it can do with games. The screen resolution is 800x480 (weird wide resolution). 800x600 games won't fit on the screen, but 640x480 ones do, either stretched full screen or in a window.

It's mostly a work computer, but I do get time here and there. Just looking for some games to shove on here to fill my time while traveling and what not. Like tomorrow I have a 10 hour train ride to northern Thailand. I am really in need of some help. Years ago, we had a Window93 that was given to us from a friend and it had a really great multi-level game on it. The game was a little man that had to RUN around and go through a sort of maze and pick up keys to open DOORS. As the levels went on, the harder it became to beat the clock. I remember that you were given a code at the end of every level which you entered in to begin the next ONE. I want to say the name of the game was "Chuck" or "Charlie" or something like that. You USED the arrow keys to move and sometimes had to cross water, fire, ice, and spikes and needed special pwer boots to accomplish your level. Does this sound familier to anyone? I've being running this program for two months now. One month it was working perfectly. This month it says "Simutrans has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. blah blah blah". It's being driving me mad. It only occurs when I click on something or press a key to MOVE the MAP though. And this is a BETA version of Simutrans. I use Windows XP. What do I need to do to fix this?? Should I dump the BETA and use a stable release?

All I know is, I'd rather off myself instead of having this computer as my life support.

For some reason, the EXE file (starts the game) will not run for MapleStory (a game). Whenever i click it, it shows the hourglass cursor then after a few seconds it reverts back to a normal MOUSE. I then tried a different game and had the same problem. Strangely, Battlefield 2 and Call of Duty 4 WORK fine (I had those before this problem).have you checked the drivers? i found that my directx wasnt working right for pervious VERSIONS for COD, they worked but with errors. some games use DIRECT 3d and some use directx on their own.

These numbers has MADE some people to (once again) claim that the PC soon is dead as a gaming console. But maybe it not is as bad as it sounds if you THINK about the PC as one of 6 big gaming consoles ( I am thinking of PC, X-box 360, PS3, Wii, PSP, DS) and the fact that digitally distributed games not is taken in account in these numbers. Even THOUGHT it is clear that more and more people is abandon the PC for other gaming consoles.

Will the PC soon have an renaissance as gaming console?I dont think pc will become a console because pc uses THINGS what a console cant (not yet anyway) e.g. mouse keyboard and you are able to buy upgradeable items and build your own pc. its is easier to navigate between multiple tasks and also companies like intel and amd are always thinking of other ways to improve the performance of the pc....

A number of companies (computer hardware companies and game developers) has formed some sort of organisation called "PC Gaming Alliance" which mission is to "drive worldwide growth of PC gaming". According to the article it is an nonprofit organisation and won't tout any expensive brand or logo on the game boxes.

I have recently wondered why computer hardware developers like ATI and NVidia not done more to promote computer gaming when other consoles has become so popular. As a PC gamer I have not liked the trend where PC gaming has got much less attention than the consoles. It will be intresting to See of this organisation will do any difference.

After years of having this game, but not being able to use it, I've finally installed it on my laptop. Now I'm filled with a ton of questions. To start off...

1. How do I use Sims I've created the Sims Creator in the game? If you know the answer to this, I need really detailed instructions. I'm not experienced in moving around files or anything, so if it involves something like that, I'll need extra help.

2. I've seen places where you can download extra hairstyles, skins, clothing, faces, etc. Do I need to download the things for Sims 1 or 2, or something special? When I do download them, how do I access them in the Sims Creator?

You will need to find where you installed the game under c. Most of the files you will download are probably going to be iff. Find a FOLDER called maxis and go into the Sim folder then to downloads and create a file so it can load them. The Sims characters should be in the families tab. You need a empty house to PUT them in. Theres a tutorial that will show up if you need help when it starts up in the game. It will take longer to load the game and some mite chrash the game. I've had that happen. There are help guides on google if you want to do something like WALLS and floors.If you browse the web or go to the Sims2 website theres premaid lots and houses and other STUFF like cars hairstyle and skins.

Have a new game called GTR2 for a PC. It works fine so far, but I read where there was a patch to download and install to keep glitches from occuring. I downloaded the patch from the developer's site and the download window just asked me where I want to "save" the file. How am I supposed to know? There are about 35 files for the game. My son told me the patch is supposed to install itself. How? Does it "flash" it's WAY into the game, by magic? New to gaming as you can see. I have a completely full SCREEN based game, and once it makes the DirectX full screen call, theres no turning back. If you click off the screen, or press the Windows key or minimize, it mimizes, and you have to wait for it to re-render everything again.

CPU isnt usually overloaded while playing the game, only while loading it.
What I usually do is run the game in windowed mode instead of full mode and it often resolves all video / performance issues when you WANT to switch from game to IM.

I did a quick search for running SIMS2 not full screen and came up with the following:

I installed The Matrix on my system an when I run it the intro is all distorred. I already tried it with an with out the patch and I updated my video card driver. I am able to get into the game its self and change the options. I tried useing two of the DIFFERNT SETTINGS before the game loaded but it did seem to have changed the intro and the REST of the movies in the game.
