I am trying to get Maplestory to run smoothly.
I have this problem where I get logged in, but after that the music starts skipping, I can log in, and such. But the music continues to skip, and eventually crashes. I can't click on the SYSTEM Options while this happens, or the game freezes.

This only recently started happening, I was playing fine about three days ago.

I am running Windows 98, if that is of any help. =P
My display driver is RAGE 128 Pro, it's pretty ancient...
If there is anything else you would need to know, let me know how to get you the information and I'll get it.

I'm assuming this is a fairly easy problem to diagnose though.

I had a DotA CLAN match on one evening and my dodgy modem kept overheating.

It DISCONNECTED me every 5-10 minutes

So 10 mins b4 the game as a last resort i got a bag of frozen peas from the freezer and sat the modem on it.

Its worked fine for the rest of the night.

i have since replace that modem because i was spending far too much on frozen goods.

Moral of the story put a bag of peas inside your computer.

I ran this game and during the race the graphics are poor an fuzzy.How about PSU? Is your computer well ventilated?I have a front fan a side fan a cpu fan and a back fan. The cpu has a large heatsink so I think that its ventialting well.Hey, that's my FAVORITE of the NFS series.

Anyways, to help you with your problem, I'm assuming you've already set the games detail settings to max.
What you'll need to to do is navigate through the start menu until you find the game. Somewhere in the there should be something about Direct3D. Click on it and when it appears change the setting and click OK. It may give you a WARNING, but just ignore it.

I assume this is what your problem is. If not I'll need more information in order to help you.

If it is Windows 2000 or Windows XP you'll need to get the 'patch'. It's actually a dll file from NFS Porsche Unleashed. I believe it's called nfspatch10.exe. You should be able to find it on any of the major addon sites. The reason for the patch is because of the way NFSHS utilizes your graphics card. You'll probably want to have the latest patch for NFSHS installed first before installing the fix. If this doesn't fix it than I'm currently at a loss as to what to do next.

Sorry been tring to fix other errors with this pc.Since you have XP you'll definately need the patch for it to work. The patch may not completely solve it, but it is definately a step in the right direction.

The file d3da.dll is included with Porsche Unleashed. High Stakes doesn't handle newer cards as well as PU and happens to use the same dll just an older version. I'm trying to install BF2. It would start installing from the first disk, but when it get to the point where it asks for CD2 and i put it in, clicked ok, then the installer would freeze. The same thing happened to me wen i try to install NFS Underground 2. Can anyone help?

okay i have a REALLY bad problem with both of my age of empires 2 games. the game will only work on my BROTHERS file. on every1 elses file it GOES to the starting place loads and then says it NEEDS to stop. i am trying to figure out why it works on my bros file. all i can THINK of is that my brothers file is the administrator and that he used to play it all the time and no1 else had ever played but on his file.Do you perhaps have a limited account? Also most new computers have a changeable performance setting (in MINE there is power saver, balanced, and high performance). I use mine in high performance when I'm playing games. You should see if you can CHANGE the performance setting in yours.

What kind of PC is it?

You're going to have to be a LOT more SPECIFIC before anyone can give you advice.Most new games (LIKE Rainbow Six Vegas or Call of Duty 4 for example) automatically switch to full screen when you open them.
I don't know of any way to make other games full screen if they don't do it themselves.

i think a good place to start would be seeing what all of your hardware is worth now, like i know the 6 series sells for around 80 bucks now, and since its used you might want to factor in 70$ or 75$, start from there and see how much you get. I suppose... But how can I know what all is in my computer/worth of it.
Also don't I have to remove Windows from my HD since i am not an authorized Windows Retailer... i would use newegg.com its got tons of parts, and probably what you have. As for microsoft, i dont think they would do anything, its yours to give/sell you bought the cd key after alli dont have time to factor up an estimate right now, i just have to chime in that if you do end up selling your current rig, i would either A) give them windows and include it in the price or B) wipe the drive of windows and sell it WITHOUT an OS.

The easiest way I know to find out what your memory is in your computer, is to go to the Crucial memory selector page and let it scan your computer.

Hi out there to any KQ fans like me. I feel kind of silly asking this ? but even using the WALKTHROUGH for KQI-I am having trouble finding the "pebbles" going north after filling the bowl. When I go north-there's a cliff with rushing water-no beach. Did I miss something?

The package I PURCHASED can be run on WinXP but sometimes the older games have a problem with the monitor settings. You need to be PATIENT and just keep trying!

good PM everyone. i got a game called marvel ULTIMATE alliance, the one with the .b5t file extension. l followed all the instructions on how to install it and it worked. my problem is i burned to extracted files in daemon virtual drive to the cd and not the original .b5t files. now, every time i TRY install it a prompt will appear "Please insert the correct DVD-ROM, select OK and restart the application." is there a file missing? does anyone know how to resolve this?Sorry, I'm a bit CONFUSED here. I recently installed street FIGHTER online and when i click to load the game this pops up: Failed to load shockwavectl from CONTROL.dll your version of controll.dll MAY be OUTDATED make sure you are using the version of control that was provided with your application. I downloaded shockwave player and installed the latest version and it still gives me the ERROR message.possibly try the windows updates, and do u have a LEGAL version of windows?

Hi, I just installed an OLD game, Bio F.R.E.A.K.S. I can go through the menu's and pick my characters alright, but when you start up a match the screen is almost entirely BLACK. I don't know much about computers but a friend said it might have something to do with a driver. Does anyone know how I could FIX this problem?

You can get a lot better equipment for the money than buying one from a manufacturer. i second building your own for the following reasons...

1. its cheaper
2. its easier to upgrade
3. you get to customize every aspect of your computer

no. the graphics cards are not yet fast enough to take full advantage of PCI-E 2.0. there is a difference in performance between PCI-E 1.0 and PCI-E 2.0 but it is fairly slim. i would not base the decision of getting a new motherboard on it having PCI-E 2.0 or not.

I wanted to try to PLAY Red Alert on my computer, running WindowsXP Home SP2
It is designed for windows95
At first it wouldn't install, it said I was running "Windows 5.1" (yes, a 5)
I changed the compatibility to Windows 95
Now when I run setup, a dos window goes full SCREEN, some text flashes for about 2 microseconds (says something about starting the install) and then the screen goes BLACK.
And stops.
I disabled the compatibility and it didn't give me the other message, i just got the dos window again.
I googled this, and got a few million responses. I checked out the top 10 and none of them had my particular PROBLEM, I have followed eight different ways of installing the game and none of them work, i just get my black screen. Any ideas?

Compaq presario v6000Windows 5.1 is correct (XP is Windows NT v5.1).
As for your problem, uninstall the game and remove all related files (e.g. the folder in Program Files).
Then load the setup program, using compatibility mode for Windows 95, all boxes checked.
If it installs correctly, then do the same for the shortcut to the program and see if that loads.
C&C will work on XP, it works fine for me.
Oh, also try this patch.

Hey guys, I am trying to install Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos on Windows Vista. Ran it in XP SP2 compatibility mode, and when warcraft3.mpq starts INSTALLING, it always stops at the same spot and my COMPUTER freezes.

Running Windows Vista x32.And the file is war3.mpq sorry.it is funny that you have this problem because I played WC3 on my computer once and I have it installed on vista.

Why are you using the xp sp2 compatibility mode? did installing NORMALLY not work for you? Yea, I ran it normally, and it froze up in the same spot also.

I can play Diablo, Diablo 2: LOD, and Starcraft, but Warcraft 3 just doesn't seem to work. I think it could be the disk though if it is freezing up.funny. clean the disk ny getting a kleenex or eyeglasses type cleaning pad a LITTLE wet and then gently wipe underside of the cd slowly in circular fashion.

still researching my videocards, what do you think about Radeons? I found a diamond ATI radeon 3870, and they got GDDR4 in them, some websites claim its better then the evga 8800GT 512 ddr3. I'm not to sure, any suggestions? should I stick with going for that evga 8800GT 512ddr3? both are in my price range.i would go with the 8800GT, but that is because i am a nvidia guy. if you buy a nvidia card from EVGA, you can use the step up program.

The GeForce 8800GT seems very popular, but I've not YET tried one. I hear they're quite nice. I've been on ATI cards since 2002 or so. I've got a 9550 and a 9600 (on two different systems of course). Mostly because they were sent to me for free, and were great cards when I got them. They still get the job done, but some new games won't run at full detail. It's getting time to upgrade. I've been considering a GeForce myself, and it will probably be the 8800GT (if I get it soon) or whatever follows it. Maybe I can talk my distributor into sending me one of those for free hehe.The 8800GT and HD3870 are fairly evenly matched.
One performs better in some tests and the other in others.

ThanksMost games don't support this but you can try this:

RIGHT click the shortcut to the game, click the shortcut tab at the top and where it says TARGET, it should say something like this,
"C:\Program Files\Grand Theft Auto\GTA.exe"

Change it to "C:\Program Files\Grand Theft Auto\GTA.exe" -window

im having a problem with defraging my oblivion FILES using contig and the built in defraging software, it says the VOLUME does not have a GROUP of contigous, free clusters that is large enough to contain the entire file. and its slowing the game down dramaticly down to 1-11 fps outside any HELP apreciated The game would usually slow down due to what is HAPPENING onscreen in the game.
What are you hardware specs and what Disk Defragmenter are you using?

actually mona does survive if u finish the game on the most difficult setting. so going on that it is possible there is going to be a 3rd. i belive the whisper was that it was set to come out in 2009 but i havnt heard anymore on this yet.

max payne is one of my favourite games/series and i hope they do make a 3rd. also on another note a movie for it being released some time this year according to imdb.com but i wouldnt hold my hopes to high on that being any good, as most movies released from video games arent a pinch on the game.

As the topic implies, i noticed today while playing Command and conquer (ZERO hour and tiberium WARS), just plain randomly my cpu screen goes black, my monitor says that its going to sleep as if it lost signal and my sound also goes away, which FORCES me to restart windows.

I find this odd cause the other day i played these games for hours without a problem. Im also playing Crysis and it hasn't done that yet. I've recently upgraded my computer but these games worked fine after the upgrade, my specs are as follows.

-Asus P5N-d mobo
-Core 2 Duo 2.17gh(i forget the exact thing) processor
-Dual SLi Geforce 9600GT gpu's
- 550 w power supply
-3 GB of RAM 4200(waiting on some nice corsair ones in the mail)
--all encased in Antec NINE hundred full tower

Also i monitor the heat and the highest heat in there is GPU 1 at a normal of 58 to 64 degrees celcius. Any advice or help would be great, thanks in advancethis sounds like and overheat, but 58-64?

Can some one tell me why my game (medievel 2 total WAR) is very slow and some TIMES it stops. How can i improve this to enjoy the gameWell according to the website, the minimum processor speed should be 1.5GHz but the RECOMMENDED should be 2.4GHz.
According to your sig, your processor is 2.11GHz. That could be a part of the problem.

For smooth gameplay, I would suggest tuning down the graphic QUALITIES in the game settings.
You could also try defragmenting your hard drive
(Start --> All PROGRAMS --> Accessories -->System Tools --> Disk Defragmenter)

Good Day everyone; I'm running Vista on my system. Just this past WEEK the oceans in my FSX only show WAVES on PART of the ocean. All other scenery is fine (land,trees,BLDG etc.). It's as if a line is drawn on the ocean, one half good wave action and reflection, on the other side same color but flat. If I move slider all the WAY to Min. all the ocean is flat no line same color. I've turned off 3rd party software, but problem persists. Should I go for a clean install ... Thanx Robit

We try to burn Need for Speed High Stakes so that we will have personal multiple copys one for back up one for myself an for my father to use. But when we use nero to make copys they not working like they should.Most games are copy protected for pretty obvious reasons.
I'm guessing that's why the copies don't work.I didnt think that it would be that strong or anything.That strong?
Even the most basic copy protection should make a simple disc copy fail. I run the game and it show the intro. But it wont show anything past that theres sound but the monitor says it can't display it. I love to play the Sims. My disk GOT broken, and so my friend gave me her copy of the Sims Complete Collection, because she doesn't play it anymore. I installed it, but when I play it, it will only last for a few minutes and just shut down to the desktop. It's not even minimized, completely off. I lose all my progress. When I start it up again, it lasts for a shorter amount of time and shuts down.

thank you.Here's some things you could try, check the bottom of the disc for any scarthes, did you uninstall yours? Also, these have to installed in a certain order never messed other versions sorry if this is what you already FIGURED.

.....but CoD4 runs fine. The FPS stays above 40 ALMOST all the time, the lowest I've seen it is 30, but the GAME still feels unresponsive and jerky. I've tried lowering the settings but that only increased the FPS and the game was still stuttering. No problems with any other games. I've tried defragging and setting the affinity for the game to only ONE core in task manager (it fixes stuttering in some games like NFS MW). I have the latest patch. My Specs:

AMD ATHLON X2 64 2.2 GHz 4200+
1 GB RAM
XFX GeForce 8600 265 MB

That is a tough problem there. I have no idea to help.You meet the specs pretty well. What OS are you running?
Try using the lowest possible settings. Any change?
I would suggesting closing all un-needed programs (and check that using Task Manager) and then trying again.Problem seems to have gone away randomly. Thanks for the help. (running XP btw)All right. I guess it was a one time thing then.
Sometimes if you're like downloading a large file or you have many programs running in the background or LISTENING to music, they take up resources the game needs so it will lag.
That might of been your problem.

I just bought the game on ebay during the week for the PC. What is it with the controls? id rather use the arrow keys to move around the place just like in Grand Theft Auto. In the options it wont let me change the controls, bloody stupid. I have a controller but id rather use the keyboard. Does anyone know how to change the controls? Its W,S,A,D on the keyboard to move around.Did you look under the options in the game. It didn't come out yet. And we can't help you with pirated software. Read the forum rules.Not sure if that is a real teaser or not, but if Diablo 3 came out, I'd add it to my collection. Beat the first Diablo many times, and Diablo II once ( LONG GAME !!! ) Then after playing Diablo II, its hard getting back into playing Diablo 1 without the ability to "run" is painful. Randomized game maps made for lots of fun play since stuff is not always in the same spot. Diablo II also had this Random Map feature which made it fun when I had to rebuild my system and RESTORE my saved game. I guess the saved game does not save the Map configuration... what fun that was trying to find stuff after the rebuild in the game.

With WOW as powerful of a game and $$$$ Maker, it would be neat to see Diablo III come out like Startcraft II which I am also waiting for.

And like WOW and Diablo II its hard going back and playing the prior versions which can be painful if not played for just the old school feel. Warcraft II was so much better than Warcraft 1, and I didnt care for Warcraft III, now that WOW is lightyears ADVANCED over all prior versions, I havent fired the prior versions up for about 5 years now. Although Diablo II is still fun for its gaming concepts and I have fired that up for a few Lan Parties on older P2 and P3 systems and UT99 DM Tournaments...

I can go on and on, but will shut up for now... ha ha

after you hit OK on the patch intalling page, on the light-grey making page thats just before the title of the game an ERROR comes up, it says " ULTIMA Online Client has encountered a problem and NEEDS to close." do you know what that TRACES to?

We installed Need for Speed an it ran okay so he wondered if there was a way to put in more TRACKS since we havent played this game untill we realized there was a patch for xp. So I put in a car an a track booted the game an it didnt come up to the intro so after forceing it to exit I removed the track an tried again. Still the same problem so he complete uninstalled it and reinstalled everything. But that didnt work so he cleaned out his registry but it still dont work. Its a Dell Dimension 8250Any IDEAS why it wont work? We tried installing it an it still wont work.Any thoughts out there? Try uninstalling the game, DELETING its folder, running ccleaner (the file and registry cleanup), and then installing the game.Thats sort of what we did. Quote
