This has been occurring for a while now. While playing Oblivion I randomly receive the "Black Screen of Death." When I say randomly I mean that there's not a specific thing, such as fast traveling, that the black screen always appears on.

When the black screen occurs the sound usually cuts off, sometimes it'll start looping, and the computer doesn't respond to anything. My monitor reports that it's receiving no signal and goes into standby. I have to manually switch off the computer and then turn it back on.

Sometimes when the computer loads back up I get a message SAYING that windows has recovered from a serious error and that I should report it. Other times I do not receive any notification that my computer previously died on me. When I send the error report I am lead to a microsoft page that claims that the problem is being caused by the device driver.

Anyway it tells me to go to the NVIDIA site and update my drivers. I have already done this and the problem is still occurring. Microsoft's other "helpful" solution was to contact the computer manufacturer. I've yet to do that, and I'd rather not have to.

How is the cooling?

When the computer is Idle (just turned on + not doing anything), what is the temperature?

You can use Speed Fan to monitor the temperatures.Also post your system specs. I had a look at the game requirements and they seems a bit hefty.

Okay, SpeedFan lists the following as the temperatures:
GPU: 75C
CPU: 55C
Internal Temp: 44C
Remote Temp: 43C
HDO: 42C

The GPU and CPU have little flame icons. I'm assuming that's bad. On the list of fans on the left side of the program window, apparently only fans 1 & 4 are currently working.

I'm not exactly sure how to find out the DVD-ROM information or what the DirectX8.1 compatibility is with my sound card.


You have a pretty nice computer there.
Don't worry about the DVD Drive information or the sound card, it shouldn't be important here.


The cooling may be the problem. Those are idle temperatures?

I suggest opening up the case of the computer and PUTTING a fan facing towards the computer and seeing how well it runs.

Alright, I'll try that and tell you if it works or not.The game ran for about an hour and a half with no problems. However I was once again revisited by the black screen.Any ideas what the temperatures were? Have a ASUS board (P5N-E SLI), Phoenix Tech Bios, NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT CARDED 1.87 Hz Intel Core 2 Duo processor computer and I am confused about where to go to get better settings for the SimBin GTR2 driving game I play. Tried all the settings within the game I could find (everything turned to greatest resolution) and still the graphics LOOK "blocked-up" ( the view is made of little squares as distant details appear into view) as the screen displays the track coming into view at any speed. . This makes it really hard when I need to view the track turns coming up at 180 mph!
Where do I go within the graphics card to get better resolution? Or, what other ideas do you all have for me to try?Is this a recent problem?
Perhaps its the game itself, not your graphics settings.

However, overheating is known to cause issues like poor quality graphics or a slow computer.
If you want to check this, download and install Speed Fan.
When you run it, it will show you your temperatures. Give them to us when the computer is at idle (not doing anything).

Another possibility (if this is not natural) is a bad driver. This can be fixed by going to the NVidia WEBSITE and reinstalling the Video Card Driver.Carbon, I'm on it!

(Re recent prob: When the game was first installed I don't think I noticed it.)Carbon, temp1= 90F;temp2= 104F; temp3= 77F; 4 HDO= 84F; Core0=86F; Core1=84F; Core 130F; Ambient= 32F. Note that the Core temp had a flame next to it. I haven't called the Fire Dept. next, but maybe an extra fan might help? I already have a Vantec Spectrum Fan Card that's manually adj.. Used it in my comp. case before I rebuilt the entire computer (was a DELL). Put a new MB in and HD as well as a Graphics card. I'll get to the NVIDIA up date later today...want to do it right. Got a family all AROUND me!130*F isn't that bad. My laptop hovers at that temperature.

If you want to make sure, try an External House Fan of some sort and have it blow at the computer.


If that doesn't make any improvement on the graphics, try my other suggestion with the drivers. Carbon, threw an adj. speed twin fan into the case and updated the graphics driver (NAVIDIA) and then discovered the graphics .exe file/set-up for the game couldn't be located on the harddisk. Reinstalled the game and I'm happy...many thanks for the help.Oh ok. Glad you got it up and running properly.

I have a really old laptop which I got a few years ago. It used to play games fine but up until this month, in the middle of a game, it would drop the fps (frames per second) from 30 to 1-2. This would get very annoying but after about 5 minutes, it goes back to 30 fps. This happens again after about 10 minutes and repeats. It happens even when I'm playing singleplayer games. My system specs are below:

This happens with all games? What kind of programs do you have running while you play? It sounds like something might be using up your processor at times, causing your game to lag. You should try closing any unnecessary programs. I'm not sure how helpful it would be, but a HijackThis log could also provide some insight.I close all PROCESSES and programs that aren't needed before I play. It happens with all games except like minesweeper and the Windows games...lol

Well, I don't see anything malicious, nor do I see anything that should be causing you trouble with performance. I do see that you need a firewall and anti-virus, however. This isn't going to help with your games, but it's needed for general protection.

I play two browser based games that I love. Hellrising is one. Its not complicated i has 3 races so you kill the opposie race to gain xp. There are groups and such so if you wanted to join one its easy enough and if its an active group they will guide you how to play. Scroll Wars is another it has NPC's PvP and guilds and such. If anyone decides to play or try either you can PM me and I can give you stuff to get started in Scroll Wars and advice for the Hellrising game .

In about a month i will be switching from xp to vista and I am wondering how this will effect my Emu and Rom collection. Should everything transfer smoothly? GAMES? Saves? Cheats? Or will i have to download some THINGS again? ROMS eh? Those sounds illegal

Anyways, you will have to copy the rom files and the save files. However, the emulator must be reinstalled.
You are changing Operating Systems, everything must be reinstalled and all files copied. My least favorite part of the changeover. I don't know which Emulator you're using but i've got a SEGA megadrive emulator on my Vista laptop and that works fine.

Is it wrong that i actually only have the games on the emulator that i own for the originl sega megadrive?

etc, are up-to-date. May take a few to explain this problem.

My wife, under her own account, goes to gaia.online to play games. Recently (about a week or so) she told me a GAME called word bump didn't work, i looked at it and
it said server wasn't working or something to that effect. Once she's gone from that website and tries to back to her homepage, the site is moved to the homepage but nothing displays, just a blank white screen, and then IE stops responding, i have to restart to get things working again. This was before SP3 was installed

Yesterday after SP3 was downloaded, installed, restarted, etc. I went to same web
site under my account, got to word bump, played a game as guest and quit, and when i went to close IE, system would not respond, i had to end things through task MANAGER, and then restart to get things working again.

This is best as i can explain it, hope it's enough. No i have not tried FireFox cuz i don't have it installed.

Any insight is appreciated. I would check to see if the same happens with Firefox.

Download CCleaner and Install it.
When you run it, make sure Temporary Files and Cookies under Internet Explorer are checked and Temporary Files under System are checked (uncheck everything else) and run the cleaner.

Ref IE7 w/o add on. I went there, it told me to install flash player, which i tried,but for reason wouldnt install (i didn't have any problems installing it w/Flash), i was probably doing something wrong.

I went to gaia in IE7 and it worked just fine, so i'm thinking after all this, it is probably the website and it has issues.

As for FF, yeah, i'm gonna run it for awhile. it's a different look and feel, and although i haven't figured out what addon's i might need or want, it seems to be working just fine so i'll keep it.

I had installed the sound an video drivers but when I GO to press the f1 key it misses it an sort of like stumbles when I play it. I had to reformat the pc cause c became d an viceversia but I had the same settings earlier an it ran okay.

Intel SE7210TP1-E socket 478 not sure if you will find it if you WANT the specs cause it mite bring up a tawian board so its ether a O or 0, Pent 4 2.8 ghz, DDR Ram, Radeon x1300 video card, HDA X-plosion 7.1 auido card,nic, two sata drives one 320 the other 160, floppy an dvd bunner. Just soes you knows, I'm no PC expert, so don't expect much help from this direction.

I had a "stumbling" problem until recently. Mine was caused by my F6 key being assigned to open a program when pressed. Since my keyboard has a gap between F4 and F5, I would sometimes reach too FAR, hitting F6. Sometimes it would open in the background making FOF stumble, sometimes it would minimize FOF, which screwed it up when I BROUGHT it up again. I recently found the shortcut that had F6 assigned to it, so I took it off. DOUBT this is your problem though.Nope, but glad you figured out yours. It seems that the file was corrupt or something. Now i was like what the *censored* is going on here ? Nothing has been injected into my game , I've never ever hacked before , and i thought it was just a glitch with the games anti cheat system. So i went back in to the server . The same thing happened . So i went out to my local computer game store and bought a brand new copy of the game , i INSTALLED i patched with the latest 1.3 , and it still kicked me!

So i wrote off to evenbalance the guys BEHIND running the anticheat system , they didn't advise much . They asked for all these details , so i went back into game , and i stopped getting kicked ....

2 months later today , it started happening again!

So i wrote off to them , and GAVE them all the information they needed , read it from the bottom up!

In there comment , someone posted my GUID so called ban , for this so called aimbot , like i said i ain't ever hacked before.

i installed the BF2142 on vista and it worked fine then i installed it on xp on another pc to play multiplayer but when i start it GET CRASHED. I didnt use any patch, because its working on vista. That pc DirectX is 9c + 1Gig ram

Here are problems I've had: game periodically quitting before song load, game quitting if you press F1 to select song difficulty (not always, but FOF sure doesn't like it.) Also, if you press enter more than once at difficulty selection, game may quit. Yes the game quits a LOT, but if you open FOF from within a window (as opposed to when you open it from a desktop shortcut), you can quickly reopen it just by pressing enter. Plus, FOF remembers the last song and difficulty selection, and doesn't take LONG to load.

I have not had the parts not moving problem. Could you give more detail, such as are individual files not moving, or some of the data in the files? If individual files, which ones? Was the download corrupted?

BTW, I haven't tried getting the mp3's, so I was just wondering, is it the entire song, or just a part?

If your a fan of the Fallout series like me, your anticipating the release of Fallout 3. So I figured I'd start a thread for any fans that may be here to talk about Fallout 3 or the Fallout series.

Fallout 3 is to be released on Oct 28, there are video's of its gameplay located on Youtube. There are five of them currently, the game looks too be everything promised since 2003 and then some. Thumbs up to Bethesda, though it had better not end up being flat like Elderscrolls IV: Oblivion, there previous release, the engine of which this game is based on.

Though, I think its going to be a great game, after all, nailing someones head to any imaginable surface wall with a Rail Spike gun in the middle of Super-Duper Mart, or wherever the *censored* else you can imagine. The thought of using the power fist in 3d is also VERY promising, pounding off heads with it seems incredibly fun.

Anyway, post any of your thoughts or comments on the game. If your a violent video game hater and you bash this or any other violent video games, don't bother posting, I don't care to hear people whining about "Murder simulators". Moved to Games from Others The Fallout series has been one of my all time favorite series and I'm *real* excited for this latest release it's been a long time and honestly something I didn't think was actually going to happen after the issues with Bioware.

Can't wait. I've always been a fallout fan, there was one un-official fallout game for Xbox I never played, Brotherhood of Steel. I've played the rest though, aside from the old fallout 3 demo, never bothered with it. I hate demo's, they just leave me unsatisfied and usually drive me further down the line of boredom.

Though I am not a regular posting here, I definitely will disappear when Fallout 3 is released, I HOPE to be working as a night stocker at Wally World by then so I can get money to get my license and a car in 09, maybe even the money I need to get my 1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass Brougham on the road. Between working 11PM-7AM EST, and Fallout 3, I doubt I'll have much free time. Not that I'm complaining, stocking at Wally World isn't exactly what I'd call a hard job, way easier than bagging for the local GROCERY. Oh well, I know I'll still play the *censored* out of it when it comes out. I may be a bit more excited when the time actually comes. And at least Ron Perlman is still in the game. But I agree the whole new FPS view is a completely different (hopefully in a good way) at least you can still go third person from the looks of it.Yeah, one of the demos even showed an overhead view. That's promising, but my concerns are still strong. And with all of these new people on the team, I'm worried about it not staying true to the series. Those new robots kind bug me...they look quite a bit like Mr. Handy, but they're Protectionators or something? And is it just me, or are the characters excessively violent? I know people are hostile in the wastes, but this is a bit much; especially considering that you can get through the first game without killing a single person (except for the very end, of course). Also, I noticed in one of the demo videos that they kept referring to that ghoul as a zombie...I really hope they don't change them like they did in that awful Xbox game a couple of years ago.

If Interplay hadn't heartlessly screwed over the BlackIsle team, I think we'd have a better chance of getting a great game, but I will try to remain unbiased until I actually play the new game. It certainly can't be any worse than the demo that was released a few years back.

It would be really awesome if this brought about a revival of the Fallout Bible.



Sidenote: I now live above the site of Vault 12. I know you're jealous.Oh crap man, I have a sudden urge to pick up a rifle and senselessly slaughter ghouls now that I've been reminded of Necropolis. That $*%@ing water chip drove me mad, fallout 2's dreams where worse. Fallout 2's ending was horrible, unclear and horrible. Fun games though, I hope FO3 really brings Fallout back to life.

Oh, and there WAS senseless violence in the wasteland, remember the random encounters? Recall the raiders that shot anything that so much as twitched? The Rad scorpions? The crashed UFO with the alien gun and the "Please return to Area 51 if found." tag? Need I go on? Random encounters where often violent, 'nuff said. Oh, how could I forget, Ghouls and Super Mutants weren't exactly friendly either.

Besides, the very reason I played the fallout series was because of the well played story line combined with the high levels of violence. I never get tired of carnage in video games. This is coming from someone who'll use a couple hundred blast doors in Garrysmod as dominoes just to kill ONE person! So yeah, the thought of the Pipboy targeting system allowing me to graphically blow someones head off by hitting them in the face with a grenade really appeals to me. I LOVE senseless violence in video games, never get enough of it. Though, I'm the opposite about those carnage based movies like Saw, that crap bothers me.

I always wiped out the Raiders camp in FO1, 'lotta goodies there. Fallout Tactics: BOS for PC was good, though I never played the Xbox version of Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel. I hear it was horrible though, I mean come on, there not zombies, there Ghouls! There still alive.. Sort of... I guess they COULD be called a Zombie, but I still prefer classic terminology. Like good old Harold the mutant that lived behind that house full of hostile guys, I'd walk by there and the door would be open and I'd randomly get shot.

Regardless that every game has its bugs, ES IV Oblivion had many, and this is the brainchild of the people that made Oblivion. So I'm kind of concerned that I'm going to see people walking into the side of a building like there walking down a street or that I'm going to see a lot of weird glitching like the world going invisible and crap, oh, not to mention where I've seen NPC's sit there in oblivion and constantly loop scenes until KILLED. Kind of like that bug in STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl where the scientist at the Agroprom or whatever it was called kept saying "Hello, Hello.". I'd be killing zombies then all the sudden faintly hear "Hello, Hello." off to my side and turn, next thing I know a zombie would rush me and blow my brains out with a Makarov PM.

Point being, I HATE video game bugs that interfere with game play, NPC's that won't function properly, distracting glitches, items/weapons that are improperly programmed and don't work, and most of all, poorly mapped games. Oh, wait, scratch crappy maps, I hate crappy physics engines even worse. Bullets don't go straight! That's right Bill, I'm referring to the Master Chief, who's rifles always shot straight. Even though the physics engine COULD do bullet physics, the PROGRAMMERS failed to realize that BULLETS don't go STRAIGHT! That has to be the most annoying part of a game, arcade like gameplay, I HATE ARCADE GAMES!

EDIT: I wonder what a game would be like with Starwar's movie physics, where the lasers NEVER hit the good guys unless its gonna be uber dramatic. I cringe at the thought of a six part video game CUT scene. *Insert disc twenty two for cut scene*

Your graphics card is right there at the minimum, but that shouldn't get in the way of anything. What exactly happens when you try to play? Do you get any ERROR messages? thanksI personally have never played POP2, so I could not tell you. Perhaps someone else who has played it could. You could try exploring the folder yourself, just make sure to not delete, move, or alter any files, or else your game may not work. Look for files with sav or sv in the EXTENSION, or "save file" in the description. I don't KNOW how POP works, but if you can name files, search for a file with that name. If it saves by numbered files, search for those numbers in the POP folder.

I was wondering if it were possible to BUY a legitimate version of a on line game, say bubble shooter by absolutist, and install it on to a flash drive. And then be able to use it on any PC I wish provided the appropriate software is installed? I've not had any luck to date, it seems the program recognizes my PC and then prompts me to buy another copy when it's open on another PC via a flash drive. I installed Enter The Matrix on my system an when I run it the intro is all distorred. I have a PCI Video Card Radeon x1300. Pentium 4 Socket 478, DDR RAM 1 GB, SATA Drives 160 GB 320 GB, HDA Digital X Mystique 7.1 Gold, Intel SE7210YP1-E Motherboard, I tried it with an with out the patch and I updated my video card drive but I still get that ERROR. Some times the sound is faster then the video as well. YAHOO answer person told me Sounds like you have an older version of the software, It may be you need to go to the manufactures site and see if they have an update for your Operating System otherwise it forces you to buy the NEWER updated version for your Operating System. Apparently from a source of mine working with valve's programmers as an assistant says a new UPDATE for css is COMING and soon. Yay, my life has meaning again! It might take a while, as I'm going to include links to every game. I was thinking of doing a mini review of every one, unless you think a link to a review would be sufficient. That would take much less time. My list has at least 115 entries now, but only on notes in pencil. I have to put it on the computer, and I'm lazy, so I'm gonna need motivation. Like gifts of money, or computer hardware.

Hello, I dug through my old BOX of disks and found an old game on CD called Pinball Illusions.
I tried to play it on my new Dell, ( I just wanted to test the computers abilities) the dell has a Pentium4, 1 gig ram 500 Gig hard drive Xp SP3, but it wont do anything.

When I tried to INSTALL it and run it a smallish box came up(looked like a DOS type install box) and words flashed across the screen then everything just WENT away.
End result is the game doesnt do anything and wont play.

I tried it in my other computer the AMD Athalon but same thing.
Am I doing it WRONG?
Im thinking it may be too old for modern systems. or its me ( thats the most likely cenario)

My friend comes from china i am in the USA..he is NOT a gold farmer nor is he a botter...he wants to play perfect world international with me. He had a proxy that was working for about 2 weeks then all of a sudden 1 nite he tried to log in and got instantly booted..the account was temp banned. It was explained to me by the admin that they detected a china ip on my account and temp locked my account. China is not allowed to play in this game. How can i bypass whatever perfect world international game has so that my friend can play? I think its his ip but not sure as i dont no anything about this stuff.I'm guessing the only option is to use a proxy.

1. China's government doesn't allow it.
2. A good portion of cheaters come from China.
3. China also has a nice population of underground gold farmers and botters for profit.

There really is no way to hide your IP in a game aside from using a proxy. You/your friend probably made the mistake of using a insecure proxy that allowed your IP to be visible to the game admins, or used a proxy with an IP address from china. The only soultion I can think of is, use a proxy which is hosted outside of china. Another option is to move out of China, haha.

Not sure why but when I try to play Frets of fire it comes up saing MSVCR71.dll is missing. So....for the past week I've been getting on World of Warcraft and after about 10 minutes or less my comutper just shuts down. I'm THINKING that the cmoputer is overheating and just turns off but I really don't know. If ANYONE can tell me whats wrong that would be awesome.

I was playing half life 2 with no problems. My pc crashed. When trying to play it again it would not run. I uninstalled it then re-installed it. It will not install all of the game just Steam. Checking the folders it seems that Half Life does not install. It just installs steam but the steam app`s is empty. I`ve tried uninstalling it.. Running a disk checker. Registry repair and other stuff but still the same problem. I`ve tried the repair on the cd but the same problem. Crysis may need a lot of resources to run to its full potential, but when it does, you will be amazed.
It looks photo-real, and its physics engine is one of the best. Explosions send ripples through the trees and bushes.

I'd say crysis is a pretty good game, but it's not one of those "SUPERAWESOMEOMG!!!!" games. It doesn't really have anything new except the graphics, but graphics don't matter to me as much as the gameplay and story.
