First one didn't suck enough then?

Weird thing is, when I first installed it, it worked fine, but when I dont play for more than 3 hours, and shut the game down, and load it back up, all the units and buildings are gone, cant move them, hear them though.

As usual you have no idea what your talking about. I doubt you can name a single legitimate reason to "never use vista for gaming".
This doesn't even make any sense. Second, if it won't work, why mention it? It's like saying, "oh, your PC won't power up? Oh ok, try putting a plug in your bathtub, even though it won't work.

What makes it even better is it might work to change the graphics detail in the game to other values, as with resolution. Of course I know the specific settings rather then just blithly saying "change ur graphics settins"This might not be possible.

Anyway, with regards to AOE2, I can play it just fine, with some visual artifacts from transparent layers on the ocean and grass and so forth. But I've never had units dissapear. I assume your loading from a saved game, correct?

Would Windows 7 help at all? Cause I really dont want to revert to xp. (getting the OS on ebay if possible)

Hey everyone....i am having trouble with Command & Conquer the first decade (combines all the C&C games into one pack), in particular the original Command & Conquer and Red Alert. Every time I play either one of them, about 10 seconds into the games they lock up and I have to use the Task Manager to get out of the games.

All the other games, the more recent ones, work fine. Any ideas? I am up to date on my drivers, and installed all the patches for the game too...

in compatibility mode for an older version of Windows? Command and Conqueror came out around '95 (i think).

Right click on the icon used to start the game, select "properties", click on the compatibility tab..

Put a tick on the box NEXT to "run this program in compatibility mode for:" Next choose Windows 95 and click apply and ok... Try the game, if it doesn't work, try Windows 98 mode...

First deacade does have textures There are games like RENEGADE that has its own configuration tool for it in there, which I play.

Hello, I'm new to the site mainly because i cant find a fix to this problem. I've searched and i cant find anything. =/

Well, heres my problem. My computer runs fine when im just browsing the internet, or doing simple THINGS i guess you can say. But whenever i run games, for example, Battlefield 2, secondlife, etc. It'll run within the range of 5-30 mins then my screen will go black, then switch to "DSUB Power SAVING Mode". The only way i can exit out of this is by restarting my pc. I know my computer is able to run these games because its worked fine before, but it randomly started doing this. I've also tried several monitors so i KNOW it has nothing to do with the monitor.

My computer isnt too great, but i dont know what could be causing this, all my fans are working, comp doesnt seem to be overheating, If anyone knows anything about this please help, i need some advice on what to do or what this could be. No other forums have answered me, =/

There's an expansion back "Poseidon: Master of Atlantis" which I'd really love to get (it has new buildings, new missions and, best of all: a mission editor). This expansion back hasn't been released by Sold Out Software, so only the original Sierra VERSIONS from years ago are on sale. I've bought a new laptop with Windows Vista, and of course this wasn't invented back then.

My copy of Zeus says that it works on Windows 95/98/Me/XP, but I've just installed it and played it on my new Vista laptop; no problem! I've MANAGED to find a bundled copy of Zeus and Poseidon on Ebay, and it says that it runs on Windows 95/98/Me/XP too. (It won't mention Vista because Vista didn't exist when the product was made).

* If Zeus ran on Vista, then would the expansion pack Poseidon run on Vista?

* If Poseidon didn't run, then would there be a Vista compatability patch that I could download?

I got these lagspikes before, out of nowhere, and they stopped for about a month. Just a few days ago, they've started up again.

I receive lagspikes when I switch weapons, fire a weapon, or when a new object, such as a vehicle or player, comes into view. It does not happen EVERY time these events happen, though.

I use Ventrilo, a voice chat server, while I play Tribes 2. When I receive lagspikes in Tribes 2, the VOICES of people talking also lags for the same amount of time. The lagspikes last from .5-1 second and can happen as often as three times in a row with a split second recovery between each lagspike.

I'm on a laptop with an NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS, an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, and 3040 MB RAM.

I still get lagspikes with no programs running in the background (though it worked FINE with programs running two weeks ago).

I don't have a virus.

If your friends machine can play at your place it's definately your PC. (check firewall / antivirus / repair steam install / verify game cache / defrag / network settings / ip's? / windows updates / .netframework updates )

9. Have you tried a different router or connected directly through your modem.

10. Setting your PC's ip address rather than leave it automatic can help.
Network connections, right click/proterties, tcpip protocols, set them to what they are in (right click connection) status/support. Make sure to set it to automatic again to connect elsewhere.

11. Have you tried selecting a different download region. FILE / settings / downloads

12. If you are using Steamwatch (turn it off) download can count on your usage if you do.

13. Uninstall any nvidia network security (installs with motherboard drivers on boards with nvidia ethernet drivers)

14. Disabled/uninstalled any bandwidth contollers.

15. Have you downloaded and installed the latest firmware for your modem*/router. *(this will set them to default settings and may require configuring, make sure you have the settings required to connect to your isp, INCLUDING username and password for your connection, get them before you loose your connection)

16. When you change settings in a modem or router, apply changes the settings and save and reboot stores them. (not saving and rebooting will reset the old settings if it is turned off and on)

What kind of connection do you have? If you're on dial-up, you could be screwed.

When has a router ever been dial-up? I may be wrong... but I doubt it.

i recently downloaded epsxe so that i wouldnt have to dig out my old play station to play my games, and a couple games require dual shock controllers and i cant figure out how to emulate it with the keyboard, can some one help me? i beleive i am using version 1.70 of epsxe, if you need any more info i will edit ini know this is going to sound stupid but:

Considering I have/still own SONY PS1, PS2, 2 x PSP's, MD deck & MD walkman, about 4 TV's, 2/3 HiFi's, 2 VCR's, 2 DVD players, 1 x DVD/VCR combi, 1 DVD Recorder, 1 DVD/HD recorder, W810i & 7230 mobile phones I think I was entitled to DOWNLOAD the PS2 bios which is only of use to the PSX2 emulator which doesn't really do much at the moment anyway.

Does anyone knows something about a PS2 "device" used to play PSO games (original and copies)? Long time ago I heard about it, but I don't remember which webpage I saw it in.

It consists in a disc and a "strange device" you install over your PS2 in order to make it read all kind of PSO disks (even PS2 disk copies, they say).

But after I put them in the right files and load the game they show up but once I buy them an play the game so that they can use it they disappear. just wondering , it seems PC gaming has come to a halt or something..i mean it has been a while and developers havent released any cool game recently (am talking about action games that any one would love to play : crysis , COD4 ,gears of war,HL2 ...etc )...check gamespot's top PC games and you will see that the list has been the same for a looong time.

Is it that the shift is going towards consoles with a little attention to PC gamer or they just KEEP on concentratin on strategy games?what do you think?Cod4 and crysis and still very new games and are becoming more and more popular online.

PC gaming will never die out to any console unless this mind control hype goes ahead and doesnt make it to PC.

It is far to popular and publishers will not turn console only unless they are held at the point of castration.

Sometimes there is periods where few games is released. But I am afraid we will see fewer big titles like Call of Duty, Gears of War and Mass Effect released for PC in the future. There are much more people gaming on consoles like Xbox 360 and PS3 than on PC. If then also adding the massive piracy of computer games on top of this I am afraid there not is much reason for game developers to put a lot of money in development for Games for PC. Why make a product for a group of consumers where most not pay for the product? I'm a flight sim fan and have been playing IL-2 from UBI soft for years. The producers, Maddox games have been promising "Battle of Britain" for ages. Actually "Bob" was supposed to be released January 2007 just as Vista was released. Since then the games release date is "unknown". Go figure.

Although I'm no expert in this area I suspect the combination of Vista and XP users are causing a certain amount of problems. I haven't seen a game on ANY platform recently that was any good, console or computer.

I've played World of Warcraft for 3 years, and when I need a break from that I just break out one of my older games that I actually did enjoy, like Jagged Alliance 2, Tron 2.0, Stronghold Legends, and even older DOS games that I play with DOSBox like Full Throttle or the Space Quest series.

First PERSON shooters are just played out, RTS games just seem like copies of other RTS games, MMO games are all starting to seem the same... I guess we're just waiting for someone to make that discovery of a great new genre.

for the chugging sounds at STARTUP i WOULD check all of your fans to MAKE sure they are working properly also if you have anything running in the background turn them off even anti-virus programs. I had the same problem also I agree with homer. I would like to add that Vista home Premium is just bad for a gaming machine. That OS was intended for basic, non "resource hungry", APPS. It may not add to the reason why your machine is running slow, however, it is not the recommended choice.

Vista alone should have at least 1 GB set aside to run the operating system, even if it is still just "Home" and not "Ultimate".

Check out your Task Manager to see how much memory you are using just running windows on a basic start-up. If you can, increase the PF usage on your memory, that can help with performance sometimes.

Unfortunately, I have not tried to change that on Vista yet and therfore am not sure how... Remember the key factors of how well a game operates on a comp

Hi guys I've been having problem with StarCraft regarding the battle net on ONE of my computer. I have 2 computers at home. For one of the computer the BattleNet has 4 GATEWAYS Namely U.S. West, U.S. East, Europe and Asia. but for the other one it has only one gate way named robattle. I have already tried uninstalling and installing the StarCraft but it still display only one gateway. I got the game from one of my friend and installed into both my computers. Does anyone KNOW how to fix the battle net back to having 4 gateways INSTEAD of 1?

I have a 1.7 ghz P4 with i think 256mb Ram and i know the RAM isnt ideal but someone told me as long as you have a good processor it'll still work but i'm having misgivings before i go thru all the trouble of downloading and installing it to play. I've got a joystick with rudder control I use for that. You should see me fly a helicopter in BF2. I can fly through buildings, under bridges, and lots of other fun things. Scares the crap out of my passengers, but I'm good enough with it that I never crash anymore.

WASD all the way.
It's closer to other keys like R for reload, E for enter, Q for chat maybe, and so on.

Timing is everything...

I use the arrow keys to do that too the only problem isnt getting the rifle out its missing. But im a fairlly good sniper.

I'm right handed. WASD for left...mouse for right. Using WASD put the keyboard right in front of me for use of the other keys while gaming (G-15 keyboard has a lot of stuff) If I used the arrows, most of the keyboard would be off to my left. Sometimes I use my Nostromo but not often anymore since I got the G15.

I am trying to install the old X-Com Apocalypse game. When I try to install the game it says I can't because "files/buffers" has to be at least "20/20" but it is detecting my SYSTEM as having "40/0." The game says I should modify the "files=X" and "buffer=X" LINES in config.sys. I tried do that (and rebooted), but I'm still ENCOUNTERING the same problem. If someone COULD help I would greatly appreciate it. I am running Windows XP Home Ver. 5.1.2600.X-Com Apocalypse doesn't like Windows XP. But speaking of it, I was just playing it a couple of weeks ago on XP. The best way to get it running is to use DOSBox, a DOS emulator.

Hello, i just bought this huge diablo expansion pack and everything ELSE, it runs just fine but none of the games will let me listen to the environmental sounds and i have no idea how to enable them even going to options in the game doesnt work! Could it be because of windows vista? i would really like to know its very hard to enjoy such a GOOD game without the wonderful sounds of killing, PEOPLES voices, and items dropping This would depend on your Sound Card. Howdy all...looking to improve my framerate for Oblvion. I'm running Intel CORE 2 Duo E6550 @ 2.33GHZ, 2.GB of PC 6400 DDR RAM , over 1.9TB of Sata II HD space and 2 X ATI Radeon 3850 in Crossfire (can't use Omega drivers as it doesn't support Crossfire) and I', seeing an average of 25fps near Anvil with the grass turned off (I'm getting 60-70 fps inside). I thought I'd be getting better FPS with my system. Anyone suggest any help in improving my fps? ThxWhat settings are you using in Oblivion?
I'm not an ATI user myself but it seems that the 3850 can STRUGGLE with Oblivion at high resolutions and/or with AA enabled.i dont know if bethesda updated oblivion or not, but from my own experience, and many others, oblivion lags on even the best systems. its got nothing to do with the users system but actually with bethesdas poor coding of the GAME. i was getting lag, with all the settings turned down, on an overclocked 8800 ultra with 4gbs of RAM and an overclocked E6850 CPU. Hi I downloaded the NFS Prostreet Lithuim Energizer patch from the oficial NFS website. Evertime after I instal the patch I can go into the game, the normal videos and main menu appear, but when I try to go into career or race day and such things, the game crashes.

Also I downloaded a similar LOOKING patch from another website that alows you to LAN with friends on a NETWORK. It has a similar size of about 228 mb, it instals with the same looking window and GUESS what? It creates the exact same PROBLEM. Can anyone help me please!

I got addicted not because the game is so nice which it is but because my younger brother is playing it and I want to kick his *** with a better CHARACTER don't know its a big brother thing . So I gathered some questions.

1. I have a warrior char. and I am getting kicked in duels im sick of it. They always make that fear thing on me and I just run and they shoot at me. when I get to the guy again he does it again till im defeted!

2. Which is better using a shield and a main hand weapon with like a 30% decrease in weapons damage! cuz I feel the shield just increase my armor by say 30% and from 300 thats only 90!

3. Two hand weapon or one hand !! im really confused cause I notice two hand does a better job like two hand 20 damage is better than one hand 15 and 16 on the other don't know why ! is it just me

4. Im thinking of buying the update and getting a Paladin since things arunt working out with the warrior. and with the paladin I can heal my self in battle which people do to defeat me ?

5. I heard paladins cant use bow or shoot gun and I didn't see it in the booklet so is that true!

6. I saw one guy advertising 40$ for 1000 Gold on a site is that true? (If I cant beat him in battle minds well beat him with money )

7. Warriors dont have much talents is that true or will I get good stuff as my lvl gees up (lvl 26)?

8. If I buy the update can I install it on my computer and my brothers too or would that be illegal!

I have been playing online games requiring the same Game Guard Nprotect System and so i was finish playing my game and when i decided to play it again so I was going on the character selection screen and when It was loading it suddenly turns off the game!! I have bween playing the game with the latest Nvdia Geo Video Card so I think that the problem is with my GAMEGUARD because I was able to play offline games and private server so they dont need a gameguard i have tried redownloading and reinstalling but none of those help I'm starting to think that the the problem is with the gameguard any solutions???This isn't another way to ask for a way to remove GameGuard, is it?

Yes Many times...maybe the "gameguard" executables/DLLs got infected with a VIRUS (thus the Heal/ignore stuff, likely from your AV program, which then removed the virus from the gameguard thing, which subsequently modified it, at which point the server notices the checksum is off, and refuses to work.

Have you tried re-installing any of these games?Yeah have you thought about getting rid of game gaurd? do you need it?

I have recently bought the micro expansion to sins of a SOLAR empire entrenchment and every time i try to PLAY it a error pops up. the error is a "mine dump" and it is something to do with a temp file. i have 2 partitions on my HDD one C and the other is E. the game its self is on E drive along with the expansion and the Mini dump is in C: temp files. ive tried moving the game over to the C drive and it didn't work. Ive tried to LINK a image of the error message below. any help on this would be MUCH appreciated.

Well, I THOUGHT lag was from your broadband CONNECTION only. Well faster broadband helps alot, But Updateding your video CARD really helped mine, Infact It has eliminated It. I've seen a couple of posts similar to this, but I havnt found a solution to this problem.
As soon as I minimize WoW, it IMMEDIATELY stops responding( it doesnt help that dell setup some stupid shortcut that minimizes WoW whenever I hit caps lock) , and I have to open task manager to close it. I'm running VISTA on a dell LAPTOP if that matters. Help would be great!

So your saying you minimize WoW using Caps Lock? Normally ALT+Tab is how I go about doing it. Have you tried that Key Combo instead?has to be a bug in teh game
most games recover from minimizingSome games will crash the system when you minimize them, I think it has something to do with memory usage.
My copy of freespace 2 crashes if I minimize but FF VII and unreal tournament don't. Freespace takes up a lot more memory on my system than the other two.

i think it bypasses windows screen and sends signals to the display driver directly

how can teh Caps Lock cause the game to minimize?

When I go to play Hard Truck 2 after a few seconds it just shuts down an restarts the pc. I never had any previous problems with it till now.

My problem is I play games in POGO and in particular pool and have this sizing problem....previously i posted i had no monitor or graphics card showing in device manager....thats fixed.
BUT.... the problem isn't resolved....when i open a table it doesnt open fully and chat box doesnt SHOW at the table.
This is becoming a major problem as i can't compete in tourneys.
This being the reason I play.

Have changed resolution,java, and have followed any help to the letter and still no joy.

PLEASE can SOMEONE help me with this.

Any help appreciated.

Hey, i recently got "Call Of Duty 5" for the computer and when i try to OPEN it it comes up and says Coll of duty 5 then changes to a low resolution then my screen goes black, i can still hear music and the clicks as my mouse goes over unseen buttons. Any HELP?

When I start the game, I can only get one EP to RUN at a a time.
Example: if I run Free Time, I can only run Free Time, not Bon Voyage, or Pets, etc... same thing if I run any of the others.

I know you are SUPPOSED to run the game from the most recently released EP, which is Free Time.

I am using a no-CD crack, so I don't have to keep track of CD's. But when I try to run Glamour Stuff for example, it doesn't prompt me for Free Time (Since it's the newest), shouldn't it? Instead it just runs glamour stuff...

I have also installed all the patches from thesims2.com (the official Sims website, legit downloads)...not helpful.

I know my computer exceeds the requirements...
