It keeps crashing on me every time i try to join a server. there's no error message or punkbuster message or any message at all. it just closes and sends me back to the desktop. my pc doesn't seem to skip a beat, either. i haven't made any alterations other than CHANGING the displayed resolution in the desktop icon's properties and changing the names of the intro movies so they don't play. i've uninstalled and reinstalled the game with no results. i've even (fruitlessly) did a system restore. please help meh!!!I've had the same issues as you, I think perhaps it's an X64 issue.
When exactly do you get booted to desktop?
Try updating Punkbuster using pbsetup, and also patch the game to 1.4.
If you have Northern Strike, patch, then install NS, then patch again.well i've had the game for a while and i've never had this issue. it's been updated to 1.4, and i don't have northern strike. and it only crashes when i try to join a server. i can log on to my account and pick my soldier, but i can't get on a server.

p.s.- updated punkbuster, but it didn't do anything to help. i also created another soldier, that didn't offer any solutions either.OK, try completely uninstalling the game using the instructions here.
Reboot, and then try installing and patching again. Then update Punkbuster.
BF2142 is renowned for being buggy, with every patch more issues crop up.i'll give that a try and LET you knowtried it, still doesn't work.Well, there's not a lot else I can suggest, sorry.
BF2142 is still problematic for me too, some servers I just can't join and it occasionally crashes for no reason.

Ok so I have a Old Gateway with Windows ME I cant find any other specs but when I put in a game weve had for atleast 4 years and it has never had problems and we play it alot. It plays the music to the game.Oh, that was a rather important thing to mention.

Windows for some reason is seeing it as an audio CD instead of a game.

Unfortunately, I don't know remember Windows ME and how to change this. However, if close media player, open My Computer, right click the CD drive and select "open", you should be able to get to the setup file to initiate setup manually.

This file could be under a number of different names: launcher.exe, setup.exe, etc.

If you have trouble finding it, POST back with what the contents of the CD are and we'll see if we can't figure out. That should get you going at least until someone comes along who knows how to stop Windows ME from doing that.

This probably doesn't happen with your other games because they don't have audio TRACKS on the CD, so Windows is seeing them like it should.Yeah Ill keep looking im having trouble finding it

Hi, me and a friend are having trouble hosting a lan game on hidden and dangerous (the first one). i RECENTLY re formatted my computer and just INSTALLED some games and they will let me install them but when i come to play them i get a black SCREEN comes up and then it CLOSES the game and then i get a windows problem box comes up and says it has dedected a problem and had to close it.

When I try to open the Warcraft III World Editor, the End User License Agreement pops up. I HIT AGREE and the window goes blank. Windows task manager lists its status as Not Responding. I run Windows XP tablet PC edition with an Intel(R) Pentium(R) M 1.86 Ghz processor with 1.00 GB of RAM. I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling Warcraft III. Okay, so I'm tryin to connect to an online client program
called Guild Wars but I keep getting an error saying 'GW
it was UNABLE to connect to any login servers. This is very
likely caused by an INTERNET routing issue...' b4 THREE weeks
ago it worked fine then it suddenly wouldnt connect and let me
login.

I suspect the root of the problem could be my firewall or my router
or even both, but the problem is I really dont know how to configure
the RULES in my firewall and configure my router to port
forward.

I was digging through my games and saw GTA3 and felt like playing it. It WORKS fine, except for when I try to change the resolution. I get a fatal exception error. Then I tried Vice City, it does the same thing. San ANDREAS works fine though............... Specs:

Windows XP Pro
AMD Athlon X2 64 4200+ 2.2 ghz dual core processor
1 GB RAM
XFX GeForce 8600 GT XXX 256 MB

Go to the Crysis game settings and put everything on HIGH if your pc can handle it.Vista is not the problem, its the hardware, just like Crysis. Which is why you have all these questions about it. Why wont it play on high, why is the start up time so slow etc. etc. Apple and Xp cannot do direct x 10 period. If you want the best GRAPHICS possible you have to use Vista. Vista designed direct3d 10 to favor unified shader architecture which gives you better graphics and makes it easier for developers. Most people don't update there system and try putting it on there older system and wonder whys its slow. Plus there are not that many machines that can handle Crysis or Vista well. Its fine if you want to wait, but if you want the best graphics you have to run Vista. Both Vista and Crysis are ahead of the hardware thats AFFORDABLE to most people, and thats what makes it so fustrating to most people.



Apparently, the game does a GREAT job of living up to its name...

Ok, I've been looking everywhere and have no found an answer that helps with my problem. I have been getting low fps with nothing higher that 45. About a month ago, I WOULD get an average of 150 fps.

I have cable internet, which pings fine. I have the newest drivers for my gfx card and have ran numerous virus scans. I have also disabled all background processes so nothing is eating my CPU. I've called Dell and they have ran diagnostic tests and everything came back fine. Additionally, every now and then, maybe 1% of the time, my FRAMES will be back to normal. However, as soon as I turn my computer off or restart it goes back down to about 20 fps.

It is a laptop, so I was concerned with overheating. I do have a laptop fan running constantly under my computer. The average temp. is about 70-72 degress F.

I have a probably very simple problem.... i have the ATI ALL IN WONDER 2006 Series AGP CARD. I have 2 monitors hooked up to that card in VGA 1 and VGA 2.

I also have this old PCI card ATI TECHNOLOGIES Inc. mach64 CT PCI and I want to know if i can get that card to WORK with my System so that I could use the socket to connect a THIRD monitor. I tried doing this and what i get is problem during instalation of my new hardware and then when i go on the ATI Technologies Inc. mach64 CT PCI card trough the device manager i get the " Could not start (Code 10)" THING. Can anyone help me out?The system may not have the exact driver for the card, even though the name is the same. Try finding one on Google.

squall, the clue is in that the game requires KB of RAM rather than MB or GB, and also that it came on floppy disks.

Some CD players are mp3 ready, and in that case, you can simply burn files in mp3 format.

I think I was converting to mp3 to .wma and then burning to cd, which apparently is wrong.

Hey I just got a new computer and when I went to start up call of duty 4 it starts loading and then says it have encountered an error and must close. I tried to download the newest drivers for my 8800gt and directx10 but it's still not working.

I changed motherboards and processors today and have been getting some problems even after downloading the drivers for everything. Alot of times the load for windows goes really slow and won't load at all. The only way to fix it is to take the power cord from the psu then plug it back in. Maybe I'm missing something and that's what's causing these problems. This solution works for anybody having the problem who is using a motherboard with realtek sound
All you have to do is click the orange speaker and disable to front panel jack by clicking on the little yellow folder. The problem is caused by cod4 not detecting any sound devices.

Hopefully this is in the RIGHT area, probably not though. When downloading GAMES, if it is a zip file, my Extraction Wizard always goes unresponsive after just a few seconds into the process.

Guess its not really game oriented, but maybe software.

And no it is not just the file, because I have tried different games, along with different sites in which I downloaded the file(s) from.

I tried to find other programs that unzip files, but only ones I FOUND need to be purchased.

Right, the first few times I tried to install, it said something about a wise.dll file that could not be extracted and it also said, CRC does not match??

It eventually got past that and started installing but would stop and say something about a bad/corrupt installation file....It then got to 97% of the installation being complete when I got the same message...I can LOAD the game, but the soundpool and database is empty and it says ' database error: make sure it is installed properly '

I loaded it on a few days ago and it seemed to run fine, but at the end of the 4th mission, the one where you attack the cef outpost with the antimatter device it bugs out. It goes to windows and a messge pops up saying: Heavy Gear exe encountered a problem and needs to clse.

There was also a further option for TECHNICAL details but I could not copy and paste it, and its way too long to write everything down.

Any suggestions as how I could fix this?

TRY reinstalling it. Make sure you back up your save FILES first.Heh, the website option got me going. I went to look for the official site, but couldn't find it. I did however find cheat sites, with one cheat being to skip the mission. I thought it might override the bug - and it did! Yeah! Not as fun, but at least I can get on with the game. Hopefully the bug does not happen at any other levels.

This is a problem I've been having for a while now. What happens is this: I'll be playing a game at a decent FPS, then my FPS will randomly drop to horrendous levels. This happens in quite a few games - such as Prototype, WoW, Battleforge, Trine demo, among others. I can't for the life of me figure out why. As far as I know, all of my drivers are updated. Hi, i recently got a new laptop, HP pavilion Dv6-3140, after about 2 weeks of using it a heating problem developed
i did not mind until 5 days later all my games started to lag,......eg.....( crysis could only be played on low graphics any thing above that started to lag like *censored*..), some games even had discolorations and corrupted MAIN menus where you cannot start the GAME at all.............!!!!
The next day i took it to the HP service center and got the heating problem fixed, but then when i got home and tryed to run the games they were still
slow(lagging)
laptop is under warranty till October...

This sounds like something that isn't user serviceable. I suggest you take advantage of your warranty.Maybe you need to clean the registry in your system. If this cannot solve the problem, run DX DIAG to check the DirectX status of your system. If there is anything wroing with your DirectX....that would be a nightmare....as the support man of microsoft has said, you need to reinstall your operating system to fix DirectX errors. EDIT: i guess it only happend in safe mode i tried re running but even then the command prompt closes after its DONE and still no POP up saying what was fixed or if there was a problem.

I know the game is old, but I wanted to play Need for Speed Undercover. I started the application and the screen turns blacks as if the game will start. Then the game shuts down and the "Don't Send/Send Error Report" screen appears. I think it's because my computer lacks a good enough video CARD. This is what the game requires:

I've just bought The Sims Complete Collection and when I installed it, it went to the Neighbourhood screen and doesn't load past this. The blue loading boxes for each expansion PACK keep loading over and over again. I left it for an hour and it was still doing it. I've sinse then re-installed the games but again it doesn't go past the blue loading box.

I've been trying to play the online game Dream of Mirror and it used to work, but recently when I PATCH i get this message:

So I looked it up and it told me to update firmware.

I updated my firmware but I still got the same problem so I looked around my router settings software. Than I saw a certain setting that said like bypass firewall. I can't REALLY remember much else but for some reason, I thought that would help. So I pressed a button and it said something else... Now my router isn't connected to the internet and I can't access the router setting software... I need to find a way to access it so I can reset the router.

I'm not exactly sure what I did but this is the best computer help website I know so... I ask for help.

If worse comes to worse, I have a 1 year WARRANTY...is there a reset button on the router? My router I use has a reset button to reset all the settings back to factory preset so that I can redo the customized settings that would let me get on the internet properly.:O

I don't know if Steam is to blame, and I've mentioned my connection speed in the network thread, but I'd like to mention it here as it may be a case for the game experts instead and I REALLY need help!

I installed Steam a week or so ago and downloaded Champions Online. It took about four hours to DOWNLOAD the game, which I kind of expected. A week of playing the game and EVERYTHING was fiine, until the game wanted to download its latest patch. Since then my internet speed has slowed to a crawl, everything takes forever. I've done a test and it seems my download speed has slowed to 352 kilobits (not kilobytes) per second. So I've been unable to download the patch because it would take so long. Last time I tried, it managed 1% in just under an hour. As much as I enjoyed the game it's not worth waiting a hundred *censored* hours for!

Not only that, my internet is super slow even want not opening Steam or TRYING to download the patch.

Please help me, it's driving me mad! I don't really know too much about steam because I usually try to avoid getting games that require it.

Try completely closing steam (if your not sure it is fully closed), just turn off that computer. Access the internet through another computer to see if the speed has increased. If not, then the problem probably resides with your ISP (internet service provider). You should probably give them a call.

EDIT: You don't happen to be using satellite internet, do you?It's not satellite, no.

I bought a new comp so I could play games ie, Silent hunter 3 and others which my laptop could not play. I specified what my needs where and have what was advised would do the job.
PROBLEM-- the game shuts down my computer after 15-20minutes or so I have downloaded game updates and sound card updates and tried other options with no luck. I have not got much idea when it comes to comp knowledge and wonder if ANYONE could help me?
The fault seems to be more evident when the screen is displaying video type shots?
I am reluctant to go back to the comp supplier as it took 10 weeks and a lot of hassle to get my computer delivered.
As I have said I don't know much about computers but the my guess is the system appears to overload and shuts down due to maybey a thermal relay operating? do comps have them??

Is there anyway you can post the specs of your computer, like ram and cpu speed. OFTEN times computers are marketed as being able to play these games but can't. You can post a dxdiag depending on what operating your system you need to:
For windows xp:
1. press start and click on run
2.type in "dxdiag"
3. click on "save all information" after it has detected everything
4. it will ask you where to save it to, I suggest saving to your desktop for ease of use.
5. open the file and copy paste it to us
for vista:
1. type in "dxdiag" in the search and then do the same thing I think. I don't have vista so I can't say for sure.

Installation worked fine, but I can't GET Oblivion to start. Every time I try to start it, a black box appears in the upper left of my screen and then the screen flickers black a couple times and then it says "Oblivion has stopped working" and "Windows is looking for a solution". Then "A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly, windows will notify you if they find a solution".

My computer is only 2 weeks old and is a great computer and I ran a system requirements lab TEST and it said my computer would run Oblivion flawlessly. If you really need to know my specs, please tell me how I can acquire them.

Your GRAPHICS card should show up in control panel under appearance and personalisation it should have a link with change resolution just CLICK on that then the graphics card will be listed.
