Solve : Sims 3 - Plugged in, not charging?

Answer»

The short question: When i play the sims 3 on my laptop, if I need to plug it in to charge, it says "Plugged in, not charging", but only when the sims is running, help?!

The very long question (all the details you might need to help me )
Hello, I have a question, and need a bit of help I have a 10 month old Acer Aspier 7720G Laptop, and on Monday I bought The Sims 3. All my specs are up to scratch to play it, I used to play The Sims 2 on my laptop, and uninstalled it before installing The Sims 3. I FOUND last night, that as I was playing, my laptop battery started getting low, so I plugged it in, but although the beeping (that tells me the battery is low) STOPPED, and the icon CHANGED to show it was plugged in, when I hovered over the icon it said "plugged in, not charging" I blamed this on maybe it being too hot, so I turned it off, and tried again this afternoon and it was all going swimmingly. I'd charged it a couple of times today, and every time it was fine, I turned it off while I cooked dinner, it was off and cooled down for say, two hours? When I turned it back on to charge, it was doing fine, until, I started the sims... then it said not charging again. I turned off the sims, it went back to charging. what can I do?

I'm new to all of this, so hopefully if this is in the wrong section, or you think it would be better answered in a different section, one of the admins can move it for me? Or let me know and I'll repost it somewhere else... thankyou xI'm sorry but I have never seen a game where it can influence the charging of your laptop. It may say it's not charging but have you left it with game running and then checked your battery power after say 15Min's to SEE if it's going down?I have the same problem! I dont know what to do my laptop keeps shutting down from low battery... Quote from: scinbc on June 23, 2009, 02:22:20 PM

I have the same problem! I dont know what to do my laptop keeps shutting down from low battery...
Don't hijack threads, go start your own thread.Teacup, this might seem a little bit convoluted, it's really late.

Start the game running on battery.
When the charge level starts to drop, plug the laptop in, and remember or write down what the charge level was.
Let it sit for a bit, then turn the game off and see if the batteries charge level has changed.

Let us know the result of this.Quite possibly its running off of external power. I've noticed in both xp and vista it tends to do that regardless of it being a game or not. In all cases i've encountered that problem it automatically fixes itself.Hi,
My son bought Sim3 yesterday and has played it continuously ever since on a Dell laptop running Vista.

His problem is that his laptop keeps shutting itself down......no warning....just shuts down.

Has ANYONE else experieneced this or have any advice?

Thanks

Solve : Call Of Duty MW says duplicate key???

Answer»

Hi guys,
I have a very very very frustrating problem here. I bought cod mw2 and couple of weeks ago. I'm not a huge fan, so i waited until two days ago to really play the multiplayer on steam. I clicked the mw2 logo, logged into a steam account, and then started playing as usual. from then on, if i wanted to play again, i WOULD just open steam, it would LOG me in by itself, and then i would click the logo in the bottom right to and then choose cod mw2 multiplayer and the GAME would start. today, however, while playing an online team deathmatch, someone hacked the game. my character froze up (i could see the others shooting at me though) and then someone used aimbot to own us all. i left the game and then joined a new one. but then i noticed that i had all the titles, emblems, etc unlocked. I then shut down the game. i logged out of steam (to MAKE a new account to play on) but then i found out that the game wasn't showing up in the new account i made. so now when i log into my old (hacked) account, the game doesn't show up either. can someone please explain what is going on here?
I try to reinstall the game using the CD, but when i enter the CD key, it says that it's a duplicate and is associated with another steam account. now wth do i do?
i can post pics of myself with the game if you guys want.

EDIT: This is on Windows 7. I dont think you guys NEED to know the rest of the specs, do you?So.. Your old account Steam account was 'hacked' and then you created a new Steam account?

You do realize that if you bind games to a Steam account, they're bound forever? It's no wonder the game says the key is already in use.
Also, you might want to contact Steam technical support.. I'm kind of surprised you haven't already.

Solve : Skyrim failing to load saves (Xbox 360)?

Answer»

So the other day I was playing Skyrim on my Xbox and after resting and the game doing an autosave, I received an error stating that the disc could not be read, and to try cleaning it. So I took out the disc and it looked fine, but I cleaned it with a cloth anyway and put it BACK in. There were no scratches, and the disc was WORKING fine for a month and a half - so I didn't think anything of it. My xbox started up, the game loaded right away to the title screen, but when I went to "Continue" it would give the same error SAYING the disc could not be read and to try cleaning it.

This same error comes up when I select "continue" or "load." When I start a new game it will play through fine up until the character creation and then crash with the error. I tried playing without my hard drive, and the disc read fine and played a new game without an issue and I was able to create a character. I do not think it is the game disc itself, but something on my xbox somewhere that is causing it to not want to load or save to the hard drive. I've tried INSTALLING the game to the hard drive (which installed fine but did not fix the issue) and i've tried cleaning the cache which did not help.

Does anyone know if they have seen something similar to this, and what the reason might be? I can understand one save file being corrupted, but to not even be able to load the list of saves on the hard drive - I don't know. Any ideas?Isn't there a huge PROBLEM with early versions of Skyrim where the save games simply grew too big to be accessed? Although that just affected the PS3 from what I gathered.

Solve : Need advice on getting new Desktop?

Answer»

Hey guys sorry if this is the wrong forum for this, i'm trying to get or make a new Desktop my budget is about $800 i'm a gamer and would love to make one to play newer games like BF3 on good settings - any help would be appreciated thank you. For $800 you could build a good system, however you could also pick up say a desktop computer for $400 to $600 and perform an upgrade to that ( Video Card and maybe also Power supply ) and be able to play that game as well as many others.

http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_can_series.do;HHOJSID=t4FBTlGMhqzMqy3v7VbzFZkmTZpLC6JzrX5nBlLW7T1YQ0GFhNnn!1533407106?storeName=computer_store&category=desktops&a1=See+all&v1=series&series_name=p7qe_series&jumpid=in_R329_prodexp/hhoslp/psg/desktops/All_desktop_series/p7qe_series

This system above is a pretty good system and it comes with a free upgrade to 6GB RAM. Also has available 16x PCIe slot to install a BETTER video card. Power supply is 300 WATTS which is borderline for newer video cards, I'd upgrade that PSU to 500 watts minimum.
Ok i have this computer at home atm
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883113073
that i use to play games like WoW , MW3 , Sc2 but i can only RUN them with good fps in medium or low i would like to be able to play newwer games at high settings not super ultra or super high but high so it looks good, you think the one i have if i upgraded some PARTS will be best or just start by making a new one? tyIf you wanted to save money, you could just upgrade your PSU and video card in your current computer. Thats what I did!You could upgrade to one of the AM3 processors (Athlon II, Phenom II) with your current PC, merlok, and along with that upgrade your graphics card to a HD 6850, which requires a 500W PSU minimum and which currently is the king of price/performance:

Solve : The Sims Deluxe Edition problem?

Answer»

So my sim drank a potion and it turned her into a Frankenstein monster thing, and I USED the MOVE objects cheat to delete her, and tried to reset her after, but she disappeared and won't come back... Where there's a normal red cross thing on her icon, there's not, and when I double click on it, she's still not back. Weird PROBLEM lol. Anyone know how to fix it? Thanks.Yeah, don't cheat.

Try moving her out of the house and back in. Or start a new Sim.

Solve : Star Wars: Jedi Knight II - Jedi Outcast?

Answer»

I have recently downloaded Jedi Outcast for PC, and COPIED it to flash drive for my other PCs. However, I've hit a bump, this PC does not like the game. I cannot run JediOutcast.exe because it says it's not installed, and I cannot run jk2sp.exe because it tries to run in demo mode, but it's not a demo. This computer has no OPTICAL drive, and no virtual optical drive either. How might I get the latter of the two executables to run properly?Looks like you hit the copyright BARRIER. Get a USB CD DriveMake an ISO out of the CD, copy it to USB stick and then run DAEMON tools.
Thanks to all, DAEMON Tools works very well.I'm using Mobile Intel(R) 945GM EXPRESS Chipset Family, and it works pretty well when I keep the quality to medium.

Solve : Weird Skyrim glitch.?

Answer»

Hi guys, My directory messed up the other day and I deleted it, with my saves untouched and by messed up I meant I couldn't install mods because Nexus Mod Manager wouldn't let me change the directory path. So I reinstalled the game and went onto it with my mods on and it said something about my save and that some of the content may be missing and my hands were pale blue and there were chunks of water gone, so I turned off my mods and went back on, this time without any message but when I got in game my hands were pale blue and chunks of water were gone again. I really don't feel like starting again and I have reinstalled the game again but no luck. If ANYONE can help I WOULD be grateful, thankyou in advance.Sounds like a corrupted save game but I don't play SKYRIM so I wouldn't know if it could be related to something else. You might WANT to ask on the OFFICIAL forum.

Solve : How to change game resolution?

Answer»

Dear Gamers,
I have Windows 7 and a Radeon HD 6670 and 4 GB RAM. I have a Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 and I changed the RESOLUTION in that game to 1440 * 1054 or something like that. Turns out my computer supports only till 1440 * 900. Now when I try to start the game a portion of the screen goes black and bit can be seen of the desktop on the right hand side. How can I change the resolution back to normal? You need to edit the config file and PUT in the proper resolution. I don't know where it is for Call of Duty, but almost any FPS game has one. Thanks man, i think this was the same problem for batman arkham asylum i was having. unfortunately i deleted the game in frustration
Getting games to RUN can be a daunting task at times.

Did you find the config file? For cod yes. But for baman arkham asylum not yet. I suppose you find it only on installing?SYeah, although I guess you could just Google for its location.

But if you REINSTALL the game, it should assume a default resolution again. Or just copy the resolution from your desktop. Is there a reason not to use the in-game facility for changing the resolution?Quote from: BC_Programmer on January 17, 2012, 09:23:20 AM

When I saw "Try to start the game" I interpreted that as starting the actual game; that is, it would still show fine in menus.

A lot of games use a standard resolution (800x600 often) for their menu screens, and ANOTHER for in-game. Though I don't know which category COD falls in.

Solve : Two Identical Games On One Computer??

Answer»

I'm on a Windows XP home, would I be able to install the same game twice on the same computer? So I could run them separately?
The reason I ask is I have a game I love to PLAY now, and another one that I want to install and add a mod to it, is there a way to install without overwriting the other one?You might try installing to a different partition (if you have more than one DRIVE or partition available. You also might be able to change a folder in the directory path in order to direct the installation to a different folder.

I've never tried this. I'm pretty sure someone else here probably has. Thanx, I HOPE someone who has tried this speaks up, I am worried of overwriting the existing game, I have put a huge amount of time into it.....
I do have another partition that my wife uses, could try that, but again I will wait for some views on this....Not offended one bit. It should work, as long as you direct the software to install the game elsewhere than where it would install by default.

Let's say the software, by default, "wants" to install to:
c:\programs\games\killer_paperclips.exe

You can change the drive, or change the directory path (or both):
d:\programs\games\killer_paperclips.exe
or
c:\programs\test\killer_paperclips.exe

These are things I had in mind, but I will try things on my own computer that I won't necessarily recommend unless I'm sure.

What game are we talking about here?

Most games won't install a second time as long as their original registry entries are still intact.

What you could do is simply install the game once, as normal, to whatever directory you choose. Once the game is installed, copy, not move, the entire folder containing the game to a second location. Depending on the game, the game may still work, or it may not. If it doesn't, just delete the copied folder. If it does work, then add your mods to one of them. Then, locate the executable of the copied version and create a shortcut on your desktop or wherever you choose (so you don't have to go through the folders each time to start it).

If that doesn't work (because of registry issues), there's a longer route you can take, which is much the same, but will require TWO extra copied locations, and means you have to overwrite the game every time you wish to use (or not use) the mods.

Location 1: Original installation folder.
Location 2: Backup of original installation folder.
Location 3: Modded copy of game.

When you want to use the mods, copy the modded folder over the original installation folder. When you want to switch back, copy the original backup over the original installation folder. Depending on the size of the game's installed files, this could take a while. Alternatively, you could backup and copy only the modded files, if you know EXACTLY what they are and where they go. Using this method, you are still using the original installation folder, so the registry shouldn't give you any issues.Thanx for the tips quaxo, using that and Aegis advice I got it to work, nice to know it can be done if you know what your doing.....
Cheers! Thanks for the backup, Q! I hadn't properly considered the registry. I knew there was a reason I was hesitant to just say, Go full speed!

Glad you got it WORKING, fullbug! I've actually done this with quite a few games.

World of Warcraft - With the game, two expansions, and tons of patches... it's a lot to do on 3 computers (mine, my laptop, and my girlfriend's laptop since she plays, too). Luckily, WoW will copy over without having any registry entries and work just fine. It's a lot faster and easier than installing, downloading patches, and patching the game 3 times.

Freelancer - I had three folders with this game, each with different mods. No registry entries needed to run.

I'd go on, but I think you get the point.

If steam has an FAQ / FORUM / help section, they would be the people to contact to help you.

FBI'm not too knowledgeable with Steam, but have you reinstalled it....or the game?Uninstall and try and download again may help if you haven't tried it yet. Close Steam
Open Task Manager and ensure that Steam.exe is not running
Go to your Steam Directory
Find clientregistry.blob
Delete that file
Restart Computer
Open Steam

Also, make sure you are connected to the I-net before you do all of this.

Solve : Rome total war?

Answer»

Hi guy's quick ONE this hopefully. Just bought RTW for my laptop FULL well knowing I may have issues playing it EVEN THOUGH I more than meet the requirements. Starting off the game played shockingly slow almost unplayable, you know the one where your MOUSE jumps about 2in across the screen every 2-3 seconds. I've reduced everything to minimum on video which has helped because the mirage 3 apparently does not handle these games well. Just wondering if it is worth setting the games affinity to CPU 0 only and dropping CPU 1? Any ideas if that would be worth bothering with? Cheers in advance

Solve : Batman Arkham Asylum resolution change?

Answer»

Dear Experts,
As I posted earlier I have the same prob with Batman ARKHAM Asylum. Only this time there is no config file. There is a whole folder! How can I find the file in this folder which contains the resolution? Please tell me. If you want me to state all the files in the folder, please reply and tell me so.That's probably because you have to do this:

Quote

The variety of graphics options in Arkham Asylum is respectable, but compared to what we know of the Unreal Engine 3 technology, there could have been a LOT more. The entire configuration interface happens OUTSIDE of the game, in a submenu on the game’s launcher. The first time a player runs the game, the launcher will appear automatically. From then on, however, double-clicking the game’s icon will send the player directly into the game, with no ability to manage graphics options once inside. To change these video options after the first run, you must right-click the game’s icon and select the "Launcher" option, then click the "SETTINGS" menu item. From that interface, players can manage graphics options, movement controls, and ACTION controls.

Solve : Battlefield 3 PUNKBUSTER Error!?

Answer»

Hello!, Thanks for viewing!

I'll make this sound as simple as possible!

I just bought Battlefield 3 installed, downloaded the patch. I tried to play multiplayer and it brings me to the battlelog website. So I choose a server and click play. It says I need to download pbsetup.exe and INSTALL the Battlefield 3 punkbuster files. So I do exactly that. I run into no errors. Then I start multiplayer again and the game starts fine and gets to the loading screen and freezes and closes... Then back in the battlelog website it says:
"Game disconnected: you were kicked by PunkBuster. Stated reason: PunkBuster kicked player 'MYUSERNAME' (for 0 minutes) ... RESTRICTION: Service Communication Failure: PnkBstrA.exe"
I go online and look up the error and it says to try to manually install the services USING pbsvc, exe.
When Opening pbsvc.exe I get multiple errors.
First: A box pops up saying "**ERROR: The extract file failed an authenticity check."
So I click "OK"
Then: Another box pops up saying "can't open file 'C:\windows\system32\PnkBstrA.exe' (error 5: access is denied.)
Then it brings me to the install log:
Quote

Checking user is Administrator OK
Checking Administrator privileges OK
Opening Service Control Manager OK
Searching for PnkBstrA None Found - OK
Extracting PnkBstrA service OK
Verifying service authenticity ERROR
I went into system32 and found the file and tried to open it and change security settings but eventhough I am admin it states I do not have the appropriate permissions to access the item...

SO! If anyone can help me in ANY way it would be much appreciated!

I have tried disabling my firewall and allowing it through it.
I have tried safe mode, It seems to install correctly until the installer reaches the part where it trys to open the service, it cant because i am in safemode..
And in safe mode I can modify the file in system32.

Thanks!

"failed an authenticity check" usually means that you have a corrupt file, either due to tampering to due to a problem with your computer causing a corrupt download and installation. So this corrupt PnkBstrA installation attempts to communicate with the PB servers, resulting in you unable to play online.
All I can think of is re downloading the PunkBuster setup file, from a different computer, and then installing it via USB drive.I'll try that, I wonder what would be causing it though. When I run the exe in a sandbox it seems to get past the authenticity error.

(EDIT) Still nothing. I still get a authenticity error... I dont know what to do anymore. I have used all my tricks..In a sandbox... is it possible that some program is accessing the exe, like an antivirus program? Try disabling your antivirus/add an EXCEPTION for the exe..Unfortunately, I have tried that. I am running commodo internet security.

How would I find out what is causing it or what is accessing it. It is the computer, I tried it on another computer I have and it worked like a charm...It usually fails to communicate if you're BLOCKING Punkbuster somehow. I suppose some overly eager virusscanners would do so.

You might also want to make sure the Punkbuster service is running and that Punkbuster is up to date. Also check your firewall settings and make sure the firewall isn't blocking Punkbuster's access to the internet.

Solve : Looking for a REALLY old game titled "gravity guy"?

Answer»

I know there is a recent game by Miniclip called Gravity Guy, but that is not what I'm talking about. I am talking about an ancient PC game that you installed from a 3.5" Floppy.

The environment was a square grid, with a BLACK background. The purpose was to use the arrow keys to navigate this guy to the exit, which was a door with the standard [EXIT] above it. Every item in the game took up ONE space in the grid. Your items include:

Man
Exit door
Wall
Gravity changers

There might've been other elements, I'm not sure. Your gravity changers were different TYPES of arrows that would change the gravity whenever the guy WALKED into them. One was a one-time use arrow that disappeared, a random changer, a reverser, and others. If anyone knows what the *censored* I'm talking about, PLEASE PLEEEEASE let me know, so that we can build an army, and maybe even write it again if we can't find it.

Oh, and you could jump. One square.

Solve : recommend some games?

Answer»

i am using an p3 machine and an second gen. core i3. please recommend some good games for my old p3.
my specs are given below

processor:intel pentium 3

ram:128 megabytes

clock speed :996 Mhz

graphic card: built-in 32 mega bytes

os :win xp pro sp3The Pentium III is a pretty outdated CPU which will probably only run old games like Quake, the Cube engine, Doom, etc. Your graphics isn't that great either, 32MB of video RAM is way behind the times.

A P3 machine of that speed should run plenty of games. Obviously, nothing modern.

I believe since I had to "game" with a 350Mhz K6-2 for a number of years, I can offer some relevant (if anecdotal) recommendations for games.

For the record, the machine I had was:

AMD K6-2 350Mhz 3D-Now processor
MVP3G-M (iirc) motherboard
Video Card varied; it CAME with a ATI 3D-RAGE Pro Turbo AGP (8MB VRAM)
Sound card was some standard Creative Labs PCI card.
Network card was a SMC card, but I hardly had that machine connected to a network.
512MB of Memory, but found it faster with 256MB due to limitations of the cacheable DRAM size in the chipset.

Games I played without issues:

Duke Nukem 3D
Quake
Quake II
Quake III
Need For Speed II, III, High Stakes, Porsche Unleashed
NES emulation (only emu that ran at a reasonable speed (aside from NESticle in DOS mode) was jNES)
SNES emulation (with the Rage pro card, I usually got 18/60 fps; however after upgrading the card I got 40/60 which was a lot better)

And of course Doom (which I played using the "Doom Legacy" Windows Port) ran fine. Most DOS games would as well, but I avoided DOS versions like the plague on account of running them on a windows system being a gigantic pain in the *censored*. (Also, I had a laptop that ran DOS/Win31 that was perfectly setup for running DOS games via a CONFIG.SYS menu choice, and a 75Mhz Pentium was plenty for most DOS games).

Now to be fair the framerates probably weren't what a lot of people would like. Quake III was pretty much unplayable even to me with the Rage Pro.

However, After I upgraded to a Radeon 7000, I could play nearly any game I had installed at full speed. Naturally, depending on how the games were written, some of them bottlenecked on the CPU, but a lot of the processing for graphics took place on the Graphics card which meant games became a lot more playable. (And, most importantly, it actually supported OpenGL properly, unlike the ATI card whose OpenGL Support was... well, hilariously inadequate).

Given the information you've provided though, it's difficult to really compare. If the graphics is on-board, it might be using "host-based" processing, same with the Audio, which basically means it uses the CPU as a DSP and GPU, which takes processor capability away from everything else. At 1Ghz, though, you ought to have some to SPARE, particularly with older games like those I've mentioned. the 32MB Graphics card is hardly a limitation in that context, since 32MB was considered only something a "high-end" gamer would have in their machine around the time the system was released. And, since my own machine ran with a meagre 96MB of RAM (under windows XP) and I didn't have huge issues with the games above, memory is probably no issue either.

Aside from the games I've mentioned above I can't really offer many recommendations. What you can do is look up some games released around the 1998-2001 era, which will work perfectly on that machine, and see what you like.

EDIT:
Quote
You can go to http://www.canyourunit.com to see a list of games you will be able to run.
On another note, I avoid this website like the plague and refuse to recommend it to anybody. For one thing, it says that I can't run half the games I have installed (Just Cause 2, GTA IV) but they run perfectly fine. And it says I can run other games that have higher requirements (Saints Row 2) just fine. Another point is that the site caters more to modern games. Note that the only Quake Game in their list is "Quake 4" and the earliest Need for Speed game in the list seems to be "Most Wanted", this paired with the sites complete inability to actually give accurate output makes me reluctant to do anything but dismiss it as a useless sideshow, at least in it's current form.

EDIT 2:

Another interesting tidbit with regards to the K6-2; while typically it would run fine, I actually managed to get it to overheat on at least 3 occasions. (the little beepy siren went off) after rebooting I would find the CPU temp often in excess of 90 degrees. Turns out (after replacing the CPU years later) that the little thermal pad between the CPU and heatsink and practically rotted away. Strangely it only ever overheated on a single level of a single game, the "Overlord" level of Duke Nukem 3d. Even stranger, it was always after I opened a specific door. Odd.

It's a fair bit better than that.

Doom and Quake both ran very well on my old 486 DX4 100Mhz with 8MB RAM and a 4MB Trident video card.

Mechwarrior II (the old DOS version), Diablo, Starcraft, Command & Conquer, a maybe a few games from that era (or shortly after) would run on that.Quote from: quaxo on December 26, 2011, 02:28:27 AM

I still have the Quake Pre-release installed on my Pentium 133 Mhz machine After the DX4 I had a Pentium II, though I can't remember the Mhz on it. I also had a 486 100Mhz laptop that would play all of those.

His specs meet the minimum requirements of most (if not all) games publish prior to 2004-2005, which includes a number of very good games like:

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield and its expansions
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon
The Journeyman Project (any of the series)
Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos and The Frozen Throne
Civilization 3
Heroes of Might and Magic IV and any of the ones before it
Any of the main Ultima series (I-IX)
Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and its expansions
Red Faction
Final Fantasy VII (PC version)
Simcity 2000 & 3000
Halo: Combat Evolved
Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds
Battlezone
Star Trek: Armada
The Sims and its expansions
Jagged Alliance 2
Unreal

Check the minimum system requirements of any of those games and I'll bet that system meets or exceeds them.
Age of Empires II: the Age of Kings
Age of Empires II: the Conquerors (need the above to run this one, but it is slightly better)

Any of the Age of Empire games will be a lot of fun (trust me), but you probably won't be able to run the AOE3.

Hello everyone.
Basically u can see the problem in the links provided, but anyway a short explanation of what happened- so i was playing ac:revelation for about few hours, when i decided to lower my settings, cause it was a BIT LAGGING and when i did so, this happened, i couldnt see half of my screen and couldnt seem to find a solution to this. i can still PLAY the game, its not lagging and BOTTOM half of the screen looks perfect, but its not as enjoyable as if i had both halfs please help me cause i have no idea how to fix it.

i am quite sure that computer specs have nothing to do with it, as i was able to play it,but anyway here they are:

Solve : stutter in 80% of my games?

Answer»

HI guys.

i've just recently bought i new system which has specs:

gigabyte z68-UD3
intel i5 2500k
8gb ddr3 ram
1 TB seagate TB
550W gigabyte odin gt psu

on this system is an HD 4870 1 gig which i didnt get new, it was part of my old pc.

unfortunately im getting frame skipping or stutterring in almost all of my games. im getting a better fps than I was on my old system, but its much less playable because of the stutter.

i have tried fiddling with all of the options (that i know of) in ati catalyst control center including v sync/ triple bufferring, anti aliasing etc, none make any difference, although the lower the fps the worse the stutterring, but generally so long as its below 60 it stutters pretty madly.

overclocking/underclocking gpu/cpu also makes no difference, and drivers for the g card are the latest. 12.1 CCC.

im not SURE if i dont understand the FRAPS PROGRAM but if this helps, the only thing that can stop the stutter in games is when i record with fraps!!? ill be running fraps, at about 30fps in skyrim or crysis, then the moment i start recording, it drops to say 21 but completely removes the frame skipping. the frame skipping returns the moment the video recording ends.

my friend said it might be that i need to disable some video encoding thing in bios that intel has on its chips? but i couldnt find this option because he wasnt sure exactly what it was.

any help would be much appreciated!! thanks
550W is pushing it. so you think insufficient power could be the reason for the stutter?Quote from: turbocabbage on February 21, 2012, 03:30:43 PM

so you think insufficient power could be the reason for the stutter?

Well, it's a brand PSU but it is a bit low for a high-end system LIKE that. I think a minimum of 600W would be more suitable.
There seems to be some kind of monitoring software available for your PSU.. Did you install that to see what it says? Get the latest version from Gigabyte.

Also, you should diagnose your hard drive with Hard Disk Sentinel, since it's used, and you should disable any onboard video you may have.
Not sure what option your friend is on about, I only work with AMD. All options are mentioned in the manual, though.

Are you using default settings on everything? Did you reset your BIOS to defaults after your over- and underclocking stint? ok so when the runnin "ptuner" which is the software for the psu, it says the computer is only using 170w max when i was running like 2 different games at the same time of which one crysis 2. maybe im not reading correct? but it did say peak "w" was 170. i havnt reset my bios, im guessing ill try that next. also tried uninstalling the onboard video card on several occasions, to no avail... really hoping its just that the g card doesnt function properly on this m board or soemthing.

any other thoughts? any idea on why fraps recording stops the frame sutter?

thanks for the help so far!Hm, that is a bit low. Of course, there's no telling if the software is in any way correct. I've never actually seen this software myself, just noticed it in a review of your PSU. The PSU got high appraisal but the software was considered buggy.

Did you set the power saving scheme of Windows to performance?

As for disabling the onboard videocard, do this from the BIOS. Deleting the driver will just cause it to be reinstalled.

Your videocard is two generations old. How does it run games from its own generation? ah ok, well is there any other software you can suggest that i should monitor ppwer consumption?

windows power options was set to 'balanced'.

well, not all games are stutterring, but most are. world of warcraft doesnt, deadspace 2 doesnt, borderlands doesnt. crysis 2 does, skyrim does, dead island does, deus ex human revolution does.

some games i cant paly because the graphics are all messed up, im guessing this points towards gfx card issues. the witcher 2, for example, is just all orange when i get PAST the cinematics and into the first gameplay.

the thing is, skyrim never used to frame stutter on my old pc with the same gfx card.
i tried putting all the skyrim gfx settings on the same as they were on my old pc (except resolution which was 1400x900, but im now palying at 1920x1080) and i see a higher fps (40-60) but still choppyness and stutterring that makes it less enjoyable that 18-25 fps with no stutter.

i tihnk after resetting bios options, i will procede to put a friends graphics card in the system and see if that removes the stutter, wihhc i guess could confirm the gfx card as an issue.

ps. ive looked so hard but cant find any option to disable on board gfx in the bios. i can only set primary display to pci x16/ pci/ pcix8 etc..

I think your videocard is the problem. It's 4th gen and you listed a bunch of games that do run well, those came out around the time your videocard was released. The other games are relatively new and came out around the time 5th and 6th gen came out.

I'd recommend purchasing a 6770. Good budget card. Anything above that will naturally be faster.
If all your other hardware checks out and your Windows installation is clean, then it's probably the aging videocard.

Quote
ah ok, well is there any other software you can suggest that i should monitor ppwer consumption?

Nah, we don't normally do that sort of thing with software. I was just curious about the application.
This doesn't seem to be a PSU problem. Although 550W is sort of minimum, it is a decent PSU.
You might want to do a wattage calculation here to see if a new videocard would change the demand: http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

(set it to 30% capacitor aging and 90% TDP)

Quote

It's under advanced BIOS features -> onboard video. Set it to the below:

Enable If No Ext PEG
Activates the onboard graphics only when no PCI Express graphics card is installed.

i tihnk i agree with you.
thanks for all the help.
am going to try swapping gfx cards and see if that makes a difference

Solve : Serious Gamer?

Answer»

I'm getting a new computer soon and was wondering when they have computer systems for the "Serious Gamer" what sort of games qualify as needing that system to play well?
What are the specs of your PC you intend to get, first of all? I was going to say "But will it run Crysis" but do NOTE that Crysis (1 and 2) run perfectly fine @ 1280x1024 on a mid end dual core PC, 2 GB of RAM, and a 8800 GT, which is just a run of the mill PC. To put that in perspective the latest entry-level card of AMD, the HD 6670, equals its performance and doesn't require PCI-E 6 pin power.

What games do you want to play, on what resolution, and on which quality settings? Do you plan to game on dual monitors? I cannot tell you what games the system can play if I don't know the system in question.

Perhaps we can help you build a computer that has a higher price/performance ratio...Well I don't play like Crysis, Call Of Duty or shooter type games like that.
I'm more into RPG games like Torchlight. I would like to play The Witcher on my
new computer which does play on my lap top.
Below is the specs for the computer I plan to buy:
Item # 766219
Manufacturer # QW839AA#ABA
processor brand AMD
processor model A8 Quad-Core
memory 8 GB
hard drive capacity 1000 GB
optical drive DVD±RW/DVD-RAM/DVD±R Double Layer
operating system Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
processor speed 2.5 GHz
frontside bus speed 4.0 GT/s
memory speed PC3-10600
memory type DDR3 SDRAM
maximum memory capacity 8 GB
wireless connectivity 802.11b/g/n; Bluetooth
network connectivity 10/100/1000 Ethernet
modem no modem
ports 6 USB 2.0; 1 Ethernet; 1 DVI-D; 1 VGA 15-pin D-sub
memory card reader yes
video graphics AMD Radeon HD 6550D integrated graphics with up to 4089MB shared memory
audio hardware integrated audio, 6 speaker configurable
peripherals included USB keyboard; optical mouse
warranty length 1-year limited
model name Pavilion p7-1225
brand name HP
manufacturer Hewlett-Packard

The CPU part of the AMD A8 APU scores decently (bests the i5-2300), but the HD 6550D is somewhere between a HD 6450 and a HD 5570/6570. Not good for games. HP marketed that as a "Serious gamer" system? BAH.

I don't even think it will play The Witcher at decent resolutions...http://gamesystemrequirements.com/games.php?id=36 (7900 GTX)...
It will play Torchlight just fine, though. http://www.torchlightgame.com/faq/ (Intel GMA 950) Now that.. are some low minimum requirements.

Since you don't play shooters but play RPGs which do require slightly better graphics to render all the characters on the screen, I suggest you upgrade your graphics card to a slightly more beefier one, but one that doesn't require an external power supply.
http://www.amd.com/us/products/technologies/dual-graphics/pages/dual-graphics.aspx
If you get a HD 6670, you can combine that power with the built-in HD 6550D you have to form a HD 6690D2.

886227055562The GT 520 is rock bottom in terms of discrete graphics performance http://videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html (even the Intel HD graphics in some mobile processors outrun it...) which is far WORSE than even the aging 7900 GTX that is recommended for The Witcher.

The "2 GB of graphics RAM!!!!11!1one1!" is nothing more than a marketing gimmick.
First of all... http://www.nvidia.com/page/turbocache.html a portion of that RAM comes from your system, and second, such a weak graphics card won't be able to fully utilize that amount of RAM.

However, we should not overlook the fact that it comes with an i7-2600(not unlocked) processor and comes with a decent motherboard from the Asus H61 series too.

Say we upgraded our aforementioned custom-built PC to a i7-2600, which costs $299.99. $1107.88 if using Win7 Retail Edition, $1017.88 if using Win7 OEM Sys-builder's edition. Quite Reasonable.

Now as for the Asus PC: $899.99+ HIS AMD Radeon HD 6850 ($139.99) + CORSAIR Builder Series CX600 V2 600W Power supply ($69.99)=$1109.99 with an OEM version of Windows. Over budget, meh. Note that it has a 750 GB HDD, whereas the custom-built has a 1000 GB one.

So now its your decision. You can have the experience of building your own PC, and get a nice-looking (perhaps even a little flashy, lol) uncramped gamer case (The Asus chassis uses the Micro-ATX form factor, and I would be slightly concerned about overheating...) or you can get a compact little unobtrusive Asus case. With a smaller hard drive.
The minimum graphics card I would opt for is a HD 5850/GTX 460/560 that will give you a measure of future-proofing.

http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-x51/fs I normally don't recommend Alienware computers, but the X51 with the i5-2320, GTX 555, 1 TB HDD, 6 GB RAM seems particularly appropriate for our budget... ($949.99) and has WiFi N too... but I wouldn't get the GT 545 version. It should be noted that The Witcher was optimized rather poorly, so even on a decent system, it still may not run very smoothly.

Solve : GTA IV running really bad....?

Answer»

aight, so here is my issue... i bought and installed gta IV on my dads PC cause my OLD pentium 4 just wouldn't do it. i figured my dads will have a bit better edge on it and nada.

here are his specs:
2.2GHz AMD dual core CPU
3 GB of DDR2 ram (so 2x 512m and 1x 2GB)
a 320Gb hard drive.
256mb nvidea 6800 graphics
running windows XP pro SP3

i set the graphics to auto set, tried my own confix but nada.. it says at the bottom usage memory or something like that= 205/256 im guessing thats how much Vram im using? is there any way i can get this game playing at least decent so i can enjoy it? The audio also lags like i get a car and the car sound will freeze and the audio when there talking (cant hear it and subtittles freeze and then skip) any ideas? It sounds to me like it's the video card. This game appears to require at least a 7900, which I believe is about twice as fast as the 6800. I'm no expert when it comes to graphics, so maybe someone will prove me wrong, but I don't think you can avoid these problems even on the lowest SETTINGS. Can You Run It? often has useful hardware suggestions for these situations:
http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/intro.aspxAnd on top of that, you only have a dual core processor.

GTA IV is a real resource hog, nothing LESS than a quad core will do.I am using Intel I3 2100 3.1ghz, 2gb ram, 1 gm nividia graphics, still in my computer also gta 4 is working in worst ,, what will I do to get a better performance , I can play crysis 2, Dirt 3, Avatar etc well .. But GTA 4 working in BAD and slow .. Too little RAM.

Solve : Steampower trouble?

Answer»

Hi,

I really hope you can help me since I have no more recourse. I bought a new computer and tried to install a game which needs Steam Power for proper install. So, I downloaded the Steam software but went I tried to log in it didn’t RECOGNIZE my password. Then using my email address I requested Steam to send me a new password. I didn’t receive the email. So I tried several times using my email and username, still no success.

After many frustrations, I decided to create a new account using a different email address. Same situation with this account, I did not received any EMAILS from Steam. Afterward, I realized that a new account wouldn’t fix my problem anyway since all my GAMES are under my first account.

I read through all the TROUBLESHOOT tips Steam’s provides but did not find a solution. I also tested both email addresses and they work fine. For some reason Steam cannot contact me to provide me with the keys, no matter which email I use. My next step was to create a Steam Support account. This didn’t work either because Steam can’t send me a VERIFICATION email. So I guess you are my last hope

Whitelist Steam's email address and see if the problem still persists:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1825287 What is Steam Power?

Are you talking about Steam, the gaming platform? Because if you're trying to use those credentials on a program called 'Steam Power' or anything else that isn't on the steampowered.com domain or just "steam" stop what you're doing right now ...

Is it?

Yes. From the Warcraft Battlechest (which included Orcs and Humans, Warcraft II, and BEYOND the Dark Portal) EULA:
Quote
Subject to the Grant of License herein above, you may not, in whole or in part, copy, photocopy, reproduce, translate, reverse engineer, derive source code, modify, disassemble, decompile, create derivative works based on the Program, or remove any PROPRIETARY notices or labels on the Program without the prior consent, in writing, of the Licensor.

That includes all parts of the game, including the files that contain the sounds. While it can be DONE, it's against CH policy to teach people how.

Solve : Assassin's Creed Revelation Runs Bad?

Answer»

Hi, I hope you can help me.

I've recently began playing the Assassin's Creed game series on my Dell Vostro 3450. The first 3 games (I, II and Brotherhood) ran pretty good with maximum quality, but the recent game - Revelation - not so much, and that's an understatement. Even on low preferences the game runs badly, and I don't know why; this game is not THAT different (engine wise) from it's predecessors. I know my laptop is not suitable for games, but it's LESS then one years old, and there's no reason this game should run so differently then the previous games. I checked my drivers, Updated BIOS, and still can't seem to figure out the source of the problem.

Here's some basic info:
- Dell Vostro 3450
- 6 GB Ram (5.90 usable)
- Windows 7 (64-bit)
- 2.30 GHz Intel core i5-2410M CPU
- 50 GB Remains on Hard Drive (Out of 500)
- Intel HD Graphics Family
- Direct X 11

Any help would be appreciated.Have you checked w/ the Manufacturer for patches ? Have you checked the system requirements for the game ?

Wouldn't hurt to scan your system for malware. Disable start up apps and non-MS services that are not needed. For startersNo Manufacturer Patches, System meet all Requirements, Malware checked and I use Advanced System Care to disable (via 'game mode') all BACKGROUND apps I don't need.

I'm despaired.go here:

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/555

Update all your drivers and test the game out again. Select Windows 7 64bit from the drop-down OS menu. (BIOS is selected you have to change it for the updated VIDEO drivers to show up.)

Might try just reinstalling the video driver first.

Solve : Cannot Uninstall an improperly installed game (Can't play it either)?

Answer»

I bought a new computer a few months ago, and today I decided to install one of my old games on it, "Icewind Dale". Not sure when exactly it was made, but I know it's pretty old (not the disk itself, which I bought new this year, the game is old). It brought up the menu and I selected "Install". The game did all the normal install things (the agreeing to stuff that I didn't read, the determining what folder it's going to save stuff in, whether or not I want an icon on my desktop, etc.), and when that was done, started installing. When it was at around 3% done installing, I decided I'd rather not sit and watch the loading bar for seven minutes or so, and minimized the window. After briefly checking a website, I decided to maximize the window again so I could check on it's progress. It was still at 3%, and I noticed that it was Not Responding. WHENEVER something goes into Not Responding mode, I always just open task manager and hit End Task. It eventually exited out of the window. I went to Computer and clicked the game icon, and it opened the menu, this time however the option "Install" was faded out and I couldn't click it. When I hit "Uninstall", I got some message I can't remember about it not being able to uninstall.

So I did something that I'm assuming was a pretty stupid idea, and just went to Computer > Windows (C:) > Program Files (x86), and found the folder which was created in the install process for all the game's stuff to be stored in. The folder which I assumed contained whatever 3% that was done installing in it, (the folder, by the way, was named something like "Black Isle", after the company that made the game) and I deleted that folder. I had assumed deleting the entire folder, "all of the game's stuff" in my mind, would just make it be as if I had never attempted to install the game at all. So then I clicked on the game's icon again, and it again brought up the menu, with "Install" still faded out and unclickable. I tried hitting "Uninstall" and got the following messages:
Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to your computer?

Program Name: IsUninst.exe
Publisher: Unknown
File Origin: Hard drive on this computer.
(Yes) No
(I click yes)

Confirm File Deletion
Are you sure you want to completely remove the selected application and all its components?
(Yes) No
(I click yes)

(Un)installShield logo briefly appears on screen.

Uninstall
Unable to locate the installation log file 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Black Isle\Icewind Dale\Uninst.isu'. Uninstallation will not continue.
(OK)

I'm assuming when I made the brilliant move of deleting the entire folder of "Black Isle", that the "Uninst.isu" that my computer is LOOKING for went with it. What confused me though is why it wouldn't let me hit install still. I thought I had basically removed all trace that the game was ever even on my computer, but it somehow still knows that I "Installed" it (the failed 3% installation). I looked through a variety of FOLDERS, hoping maybe I somehow missed something, but found nothing. I decided to go to Control Panel, Programs/Uninstall a program. I scrolled down and sure enough, Icewind Dale was on the list (attempting to remove it through the control panel results in the same exact thing as using the menu's uninstall option). It should be noted that the icon for it isn't its logo, but rather the same icon that icon-less programs get, or at least programs that I'm assuming don't have an icon (like Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable). It's Publisher, Size, and Version are similarly blank. It's listed as having been installed on today's date (true).

By now you can probably tell that I'm not exactly good with computers. This is the best way I can think to phrase what my not-good-with-computers mind thinks is the problem. While all the files, including the uninstall file, for the game are deleted, the game still thinks it's been installed already because it's still listed as a program by my computer (one that can't be removed) and as such fades out the Install option but unfades the Play and Uninstall options. So far, the only way to solve this that's occurred to me is FAIRLY moronic. My only idea is: Find somewhere where I can illegally download a ten year old game that I have on a disk and download it, in the hopes that it will also come with the Uninst.isu file that I assume I deleted. Then, remake the Black Isle\Icewind Dale folder and put it in there, in the hopes that I can uninstall the game so that I can reinstall the game. I figure this is a pretty convoluted and stupid plan, and I'd rather not have to spend hours searching for somewhere to download this game from just so I can make some far-fetched attempt to uninstall it.

So that's why I came here, in the hopes that someone here will know how to fix this. I had asked someone earlier, and they said something about me "manually installing the game", but I have no idea how to do that. So... anybody have any clue how I can fix this?I have difficulty reading long posts (it's a form of ADD), but I think I have the gist. Reinstall the program. Then try to uninstall it again. If you can't uninstall it, download and run Revo Uninstaller (http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html)I couldn't Reinstall the game, as there was no Reinstall option. However, the uninstall program you recommended worked perfectly, and I was able to correctly install the game after removing the rest of it. Have been playing it for a while now without any problems.

Thanks a LOT for the help.

Solve : Can't connect to ANY server in Minecraft Classic?

Answer»

I've been having trouble connecting to minecraft classic servers for a while, but now I've decided I need real help.

So far, I've been TOLD (adamantly, if I may add) that my ISSUE will be solved by using a Minecraft Direct Connect URL. When I explained to the user that it didn't help, he assumed I did it wrong and made a tutorial for me on how to do it. Still doesn't work.
Set the World of Minecraft client to a "trusted" program on my firewall. No luck.
I've removed all the old versions of Java. No dice.
Removed and re-installed the current version of Java. No luck.

Does anyone else have any suggestions on how to get on Minecraft? This iw what you are talking about, -Right?

LAN at home. I don't think my ISP should be an issue, considering they'd have to block a lot of IP addresses (each server is independently owned and operated).
I can access the site (minecraft.net), however every server I try to connect to (via the minecraft site, or the World of Minecraft client) say that the server is down. I'll try my mother's laptop, which runs Vista.

So ALTHOUGH I'm not surprised my mom's computer can't even properly run the java applet (it's an ancient piece of junk), I am surprised to discover that Minecraft does work, but ONLY in internet explorer. They may be some other issue here.. Look at the attachment.

After making that screenshot I could not close the browser normally. Something is not quite right.

Geek, the game runs fine on IE. What I can't figure out is why it won't run on Firefox or through the World of Minecraft client. The certificate's expired because Notch doesn't work on classic anymore. He's focused on the new minecraft.Did you say that earlier? It is a browser issue maybe.

What other browsers have you tried?
List of web browsers

Sea Monkey has a history similar to Firefox. Might be worth a a try. SeaMonkey 2.8 is current http://www.seamonkey-project.org/

Also:
Opera 11
Chrome 9-16
Firefox 4-8
Older versions of FF are still on the web. Just have to look around.
http://www.oldversion.com/Mozilla-Firefox.html

Or even Netscape 9.0.0.6 http://www.filehippo.com/download_netscape/

It would be INTERESTING to know if it only works in Internet Explorer.
I only tried that after my mom's laptop failed to do anything. I'll try the other browsers you listed and post the results. Opera works, installing Google Chrome now. Runs fine on GC as well.

I'll test some older versions of FF as well.

That is too weird...after testing Google Chrome, Opera (both newest versions), and FF 4.0.1, I can now access Minecraft through Firefox 11. However, I still can't access any servers with the World of Minecraft client.

Solve : Can't get World of Warcraft to run?

Answer»

Hello, I'm trying to run World of Warcraft and, like its supposed to, when I CLICK on it the launch screen pops up with the news and the "play" button. It then gives me a loading screen that says "reconfiguring gameplay files" which it usually does when the game is updating. However, within 30 seconds of that happening, I get a windows MESSAGE that says "Blizzard launcher is not responding" and it closes out of the PROGRAM. I have tried this MULTIPLE times and I have restarted the computer, as well as running a virus scan. This is the first time this has EVER happened. It usually runs great.

additional information, as of this moment, if it helps:

-Windows Vista
- Memory is at 3.00 GB
- Computer was purchased in July of 2009 (perhaps it is "dying from old age?" )Look in the World of Warcraft installation folder. There's an executable there for repairing an installation. Try running that.

I have tried re downloading java but that didn't solve the problem. I have tried with other java run applications and those give me errors too. Can anyone help?UPDATE ON PROBLEM

I have in the meantime tried several solutions like reinstalling Java (all Javas for windows). No success

I have tried with another game requiring flash, runescape, and that works.

I tried a recommendation Java proposed which is to update drivers, but I have done that and it doesn't work (or maybe I didn't do it properly).

That's other stuff I've tried so far.Have a LOOK here: http://www.java.com/en/download/help/minecraft_error.xml

It appears that you need to update your graphics driver according to this site.I have but it doesn't seem to have fixed it. unless I haven't found the right place to update the driver or it wasn't actually the right download.

Solve : Watching downloaded movies on TV screen?

Answer»

Hello,

I need to connect my laptop to TV, to watch downloaded movies. Only VGA to VGA cable can be used with separate Audio Cable. There is no HDMI terminal in laptop. What should be the acceptable maximum cable length, for reasonably good picture and sound quality without much attenuation of signals?

Thank you As short as possible. Three foot is normal.
Special low-loss VGA cable is about 15 feet long and sells for $25.
Pleasant surprise to meet you here also!

Good thing I posted this question. I almost ordered a 10 foot cable from the internet.

On sellers web sites how do they identify the 15 footer. 'Low loss cable'? If I had HDMI terminals could I have used a longer one?

I have never done this before. This is for watching those marvellous old movies.

Best regards.I have a similar problem. The big TV set is too far away and I would haven to enlarge the hole inn the WALL for a VGA cable.

The viable alternative is to get an MP4 player expressly made for watching on TV, It works real good on AVI and a few other formats. I can stick a USB stick in it and watch on my TV. It EVEN has the R-G-B things that my TV likes. Audion is on a PERPETRATE cable.

Here is a picture of the thing I am holding reside the TV set. Some of the cables are for my DVD, but the MP4 has its own cables and power supply. The quality of the MP4 player is close to the DVD. Sometimes equal, ,depending anywhere I got the AVI movies.

The cost of this thing is about like buying two good cables. But it has is own short cables. And I don't have to tie up my laptop to watch a movie. Just put the movies on a USB stick. If AVI or MP4, no conversion needed.

I am using this exact same configuration from a Toshiba laptop with a 10 foot cable and i do not see any deterioration of video quality. truenorthPerhaps I can try this out. If you could tell me the brand of your 10 foot cable I could get the exact one. After all, it has proved itself. Is it a low loss cable?

Regards.Just examined my cable and unfortunately there are no markings on it. However for whatever reason there are 2 enlarged cylindrical components of the cable about one foot in from each end of the VGA connectors. Don't know what they do.truenorthHello,

I believe the cylindrical things are RF chokes but I am not certain of this. Almost all of the cables I have seen on Ebay have these. The tough part for me is to decide what to order (from the thousands they have).

Best regards.Given your continued concern why not go to a local retailer that assures you that if you have a problem with the cable you purchase you can return it. Then buy the length you feel you need and try it. Remember to keep the receipt.truenorthThank you. I guess that is the best thing to do.

I have a similar problem.

Now I am unable to post to you in the normal way. I hope this method works.

What connections does the MP4 has? Is it Component video?

Regards. The little MP4 to TV player has six lines out in two sets. . All RCA plugs.
Set1:
Red
Blue
Green
Set2:
Red
White
Yellow

Set 1 goes into nth component group of my TV
Set 2 Red and White go to stereo audio input of the TV

No information about HDMI.

I like it because I don't have to leave my laptop on to watch a movie. Just load the movie on a USB flash in less than 3 min and take it to the TV room.
It also has a CARD reader.
It supports common video formats, but not all. Mostly AVI, MOV snf MP4
It has a remote control with the usual stuff.
I THINK I found it on eBay from one of the beater sellers for about $35.

I think someone I know has a similar MP 4. I can check it out with that.

Best regardsYes, it is working well with an MP 4. Thank you very much.

Best regards.

Solve : Upgrade flightgear, Computer Graphics crash on run?

Answer»

Hello to all.
So, i downloaded the STANDARD flightgear package from the Ubuntu Software Center, Fun, but i want to upgrade
Got the source for FLightgear, Simgear and OSG, built, installed, ext
connected to the flightgear server for the base files and otherwise

firstly, every run, i need to set the install to be in a different location than default, so i would like to fix that
seccondly. When i do run, i get messages saying it FAILED to create beacon for runways, and when the aircraft seems to have loaded, my screens turn off. No output from the computer at all. So, what's going on?

No one else seems to have this problem. so, really, what's up
thanks for any helpok. With FGo! i have pointed towards another executable file, and i do not crash.

however, with running the executable, i notice the errors of the scenery being "compressed" and it being recomended to uncompress.

I hear that this is to only be a note, and is only a problem with open source graphics. however, i am running open source graphics.

During FLIGHT, i notice that the instrument panel shows graphical glitches. such as little areas disappearing and appearing randomly, and i believe this would be a problem with the aircraft. although, this glitch is present on all aircraft.

Secondly, buildings do the same

thirdly, i have a low FPS rate after running the simulator after a short time

I believe that the "compressed" graphics are taking too much processing power to RENDER in game, due to perhaps corruption in a file somewhere.

My question really is, how do i decompress the textures NEEDED by the simulator??

Any ideas on what I can do?

I'm running windows 7, 8gb ram, AMD Radeon HD 6700 Series, AMD FX(tm)-6100 Six Core Processor

So MW3 is the only program that does this?

The full name is Modern Warfare 3 -Right?

People have complained for over a year about it. Here is just only of many comments by an not happy player:

Which is one of the silliest things about Chrome, considering most of the games they list are just links to game websites, nothing specific to Chrome. You don't even need Chrome to play those games. It just links you to sites like Zynga and OMGPOP or to a game's own website.

Following that link in any other browser, you can still view the Chrome store and look at the screenshots and info on those games. Then you can just search for the game's website through the search engine of your choice if you don't want to have to install Chrome.http://www.rockstargames.com/classics/

Solve : BASeBlock 2.0.0?

Quote from: Raptor on February 22, 2012, 10:21:13 AM

And a possible infringement of copyright.
It would be infringement if I included the resources as part of BASeBlock. since it instead retrieves them- and can only retrieve them- if the game is installed. if it's not found it just shows nothing and nobody is the wiser.
I mostly did it to test my additions to how the editor enumerates blocks.

Will try to get the new version uploaded soon. Ideally with some less boring levels. Uploaded Version 2.2.0.0 Didn't get to create a nice large set of "main" levels to, but got something of a sampling done in Demonstration.blf" which has a level with some less-common blocks, followed by a Level that demonstrates a "boss fight" of sorts, as well as triggers (killing the boss destroys a group of invincible blocks). The added perk being that typically you wouldn't see the "Boss" (a Snake of blocks) without the editor.... (Which, testing on this laptop, doesn't work to play directly from the editor *adds to buglist*).

More buttons. Many of These were in previous versions but I never mentioned them:

F3: Toggle "debug" output. shows a few bits of extra info in the bottom left with the FPS display.
F4: It's best if you ignore this. Is a test for my partially coded implementation of "in-game" menus.
F12: Screenshot (saves to %APPDATA%\BASeBlock\Screenshots as PNG files).
Control-Alt-K: Kill yourself. Can be useful if the ball or balls get stuck.

Hah, I can play the game now but when there's a lot of things happening on the screen, everything slows down to a crawl. And when I say crawl I mean "slide-show". Using the energy shooter achieves this effect within no time.

the biggest slowdown is usually the lightorbs,(which are the primary reason for explosions being slow) because they use PathedGradients which are one of the more resource intensive drawing objects.

The other is of course particles. More particles/gameobjects/balls/blocks translates into slowness. I've, in my current version, capped the number of particles at 800 and reduced the number of particles and their TTL (Time to live) for several effects, which has helped keep things smoother.I tried the latest version and it runs without slowing down it seems.

Do you want my opinion on the overall product? Quote from: Raptor on March 10, 2012, 05:36:31 AM

That's good.

Quote
Do you want my opinion on the overall product?
Why not. If you think it's bad though you should see my first block breaking game. Oh boy is that embarassing.

I have a later version in dev that I've yet to release... haven't even worked on the game in a while, actually, due to some stuff coming up afk. Latest feature was a controllable platform character that can run around, jump, break most blocks(mario style, heh), as well as a few items. I've had a few ideas for ways to optimize speed further (I realized some of the code I have is rather redundant), because the FPS drops are much more noticable when on platforming levels. I figure a good idea is some sort of weird cross with a platform character and the standard PADDLE, somehow working together as a team or something. At least it would be somewhat unique that way.

I might unhook the hashed key check-a-majig from it too, and keep the entire thing unlocked, mostly because as it stands now the editor is completely useless since the function I added to allow for testing levels is broken, and it's easier to just say to *censored* with it and make it free. (That, and I've gotten nothing from it anyway*)

My biggest project isn't even on my site(in fact most of the stuff I wrote isn't) I'm not really sure what to do with it, but that's another story altogether.

*Well, actually, that's not true, I did sell the Product Key stuff to a freelance employer with some modifications for a few hundred dollars a few weeks ago.It reminds me of Arkanoid and that's not a bad thing.

I played Shatter a while back (http://www.shattergame.com/) and that's more along the lines of what people expect from games nowadays, even if they're made by an indy developer, graphics wise. (I must say I thought the game was sort of boring and not true to its precedessors, I never finished it because of stupid boss fights)

I haven't played your game all that long because I was hindered by all sorts of bugs first (Which you skillfully fixed) so perhaps it has more going for it gamewise but the presentation is rather .. Psychedelic. I don't know if you wrote the musical score yourself but it's the wrong kind of up-beat. These two things bother me a lot. Quote from: Raptor on March 10, 2012, 07:24:08 AM

yeah... no way I'd be able to do that. At least not as it stands now. my "engine" supports rotating, moving, animated backgrounds, though, I just don't use them in any of the "default" builders.

That DPI thing was a huge pain! But it works better overall thanks to those changes, which is the ultimate aim.

Honestly, the built-in "levels" are absolute crap. To the point where I don't even play them. I need to make a proper, designed set of levels to act as the default, not just have a few random blocks tossed into a level.

The music, I made two or three of them. The old default level music, the newer default level music (probably what you are referring to) and the music on the secret credits screen. The rest of the music is pretty much just resequenced and reinstrumented NES and SNES music. (Main intro music is Megaman 2, Game over music is From Zanac). Definitely needs better music, and possibly a few sound effects changed. I know somebody who actually does it for a living who might be willing to help with that, so what I have now could be considered "filler", just so it isn't silent. And I didn't want the music to be taken from other games- even if what I ended up using wasn't that great, (because I'm hardly a composer)

I'm not 100% sure I know what you mean by psychedelic... I've sort of felt that a lot of it is sort of bland, that's why I keep adding new blocks/powerups/effects/etc.

The splash screen at start-up; very colourful. And the picture-within-a-picture when you play on the right-hand side mostly.Updated to version 2.3.0

Code: [Select]

*fixed intermittent/rare NullReferenceException crash with FrustratorBlock. Oh multithreading, the only time a NullReferenceException

can occur immediately after you've confirmed the value you want to access isn't null.

*tweaked Block Category Attributes so that base classes can be hidden and derived classes can be visible (rather than the base classes inheriting the invisibility).

(They still inherit it, but it can be reversed with the BBEditorVisible attribute)

*reduced default life of fireparticle and reduced number of fireparticles generates by temp balls.

*reduced life of lightorbs as well

*fixed SpawnerBlock to be more flexible (and allow for "instant" spawning, essentially acting as a "spawn location" marker for GameObjects

*tweaked brickblock. Now uses a function to construct a 8x8 pattern bitmap, rather than relying on one existing. Now implements IGameInitializer, as well, to add the brick texture.

*made some changes to the "protection". It still sucks but now it uses SecureString instead of normal strings so it won't be easy to simply see the key by inspecting memory.

that need to spawn instantly.)

*Fixed bug that occurs when generating "random" highscore values when different random scores end up the same.

*_Removed Editor Save check, game is now completely "open" in that it doesn't require "registration". However, one will still need to click-through the nag screen :P)_

*Fixed myriad issues dealing with music changes. Now works solidly.

*Changed NormalBlock so it looks less stupid.

*refactored quite a bit of the code to TEASE apart some of the files that were getting gigantic. (Block.cs was almost 200KB).
*splash screen no longer throttles the CPU when it doesn't have the focus.

+Added "BuilderShot", which is a power-up that "shoots" a block; first click shoots the block, second expands the shot to grow into the block.

+Added code to make some paddle behaviours exclusive. This is the case for terminator and buildershot; if you have one and collect the other, it replaces it.

+Added frustratorball. This is spawned when you get a Frustrator Powerup. It acts like a standard ball, but only bounces off blocks that were destroyed. Yes, it's as confusing as it sounds.

Still trying to figure out a way to make it somehow worthwhile to keep it in the game field, or at least hard to get rid of (or at least harder than just letting it fall).

+New enemy, SpinnerGuy. Similiar to EyeGuy, but shoots bullets.

+Added GameCharacter, and platforming elements. Distributed installer has basic set of levels showing some of the capabilities. Control with WASD and space jumps... I think.

GameCharacter can hit bricks by hitting them from below.

+Added Shell; kills GameCharacter, also, breaks/hits blocks when it impacts in the side.

+Added Powerupblock that dispenses the GameCharacter powerups. current powerups are extra life, a mushroom which just gives you points, and a invincibility star which does make the character invincible.

+Added Orbs. There are three kinds- Score Orbs, Healing Orbs, and MacGuffin Orbs. the MacGuffin Orbs are counted in the status pane. They do actually do something, and it is useful. You lose half your MacGuffins when you die, but they

explode out of the paddle Sonic-Rings style. Orbs are spawned by almost any block when it is destroyed.

+Added OrbBlock, which dispenses 50 random Orbs when destroyed.

+Changed Paddle so it takes 1 damage from balls. Balls also increase speed as the game is played.

+Added "Randomizer" powerup, which randomizes the velocity of all balls in play.

+Highscore entry screen (and other entry screens) now support editing (arrow keys and backspace, currently).

+Added some cheats that I'm not going to tell you. (bah you can just use ILSpy to find out, I GUESS...

+The Paddle now shows when it takes damage. It also takes damage from bullets now (well obviously you cannot shoot yourself).

+Fixed EyeGuy (and by extension spinnerguy). They were forcing the entire frame to redraw every frame when they were alive when it was not necessary.

Known bugs:

-the "machine gun" modes of the Terminator Powerup are broken. Well, they... sorta work, but they are so fast you just end up shooting everything you have in one frame and then exploding.

Platforming. Currently uses a Mario sprite, but that will be replaced with something... at some point.

The New Normal Blocks:

The Orbs somehow add to the gameplay as well, and the ball speeding up over time actually adds a challenge.

And even since then I have implemented framerate stabilization code, which stops the problem whereby lower framerates slow down the game. The installer for the 2.3 version appears to be corrupt and it is only about half the size of the previous, so I think something is wrong. I couldn't find the link for 2.0, but I just assumed the name of it would use the same convention and be in the same directory and it was. Thanks for letting me know, my connection is extremely upredictable, and at the time it took nearly 8 hours to upload (and I wasn't able to test the download itself and just hoped for the best). I was able to upload it again now, and the file seems more complete.

It was probably corrupted during the upload. (it took almost 8 hours at the time... huge pain) The previous one would be BASeBlock221.msi (not 200, though that one is there). 2.0.0 is about twice the size of the later ones, since I culled out a lot of large files.

OK, 2.3.0 version re-uploaded. File size is the same now. Changed the information on the page to show the older versions that I have uploaded, too.
My general impression of the game is good. Here is some constructive criticism.

Loading window (about window) causes graphics to not refresh on right and bottom side. Might be something about my graphics driver.

Make the images the same size as in the game, so they don't have to be scaled so much. It seems like that much scaling causes them to loose their antialiasization and look pixelated.

The combo text that slides up the screen seems very pixelated.

The music gets annoying after a while. Have it change to a different song sooner (if it ever does).

I agree, but it sets the game apart from all the other breakout clones, so it doesn't bother me. Just think of Mario with all of its references. The music is way too repetitive though and it never seems to change. I use FLStudio too and it takes a surprising amount of work for me to create a good melody. I have a few goodish ones though if you're interested. They would probably only be suitable for the ending scene though.

Is that for both the about and the splash screen? (Is it something you can get a screenshot of if you're willing- that would give me an idea what might be causing it).

Quote

They are being scaled down from 256x128. There is no "size in the game"; I just use 33x16 as the normal size, but blocks can be any size, so I made the images much larger than needed.

I found that that slowed things down considerably, of course- having to constantly downscale 256x128 bitmaps to the smaller size, so I added logic that scales all images that meet certain criteria by a scaling factor specified in the INI file. I believe it doesn't do any interpolation of the image, which is likely why they experience some aliasing. (I had a reason for making the sizing linear but I've FORGOTTEN what it was, I'll probably be reminded when I change it though..)

Quote
The combo text that slides up the screen seems very pixelated.
Yeah, I keep forgetting about that. A lot of the blitting stuff was set for maximum speed which in the case of text seems to make it come out a bit aliased. I changed the class used for the scores, combo text, and so forth just now and it looks much better.

Quote
The music gets annoying after a while. Have it change to a different song sooner (if it ever does).
I've only made two songs and they both suck. There are some other songs that it never plays. The Default level music is the same and none of the level-builders change it from the default, with the exception of the one that builds it from a saved file.
You can change the music manually though, I actually do that a lot; Control-Alt-C, and PlayMusic can play a lot of different file types.

Quote
The music is way too repetitive though and it never seems to change.
Not on it's own. that "Playmusic" thing above can also play a few of the other tracks, (commando, galway, smwbonus, poing2music (very annoying), wart, and zaark. (for example the code 'playmusic commando' (without quotes) would play that tune. The Sound Manager already supported "queued" sounds, so it should be possible to make it so that a level can have multiple tracks or something to that effect.

Quote

It's a huge pain to make music. Actually, I put the game in indiegogo so with any luck I might be able to get some actual music done properly. In the meantime I was going to use my remixes of NES music.

Wow. I thought my internet sucked. What do you have dial-up or something?

I tried it; it's good.

Quote
Wow. I thought my internet sucked. What do you have dial-up or something?
I don't have my own internet anymore, Currently I'm using my NEIGHBORS connection (with permission and the WPA key). It's wildly unpredictable. Sometimes I get 1MB/s, sometimes I can't even see the access point. I think it depends on the weather.

Quote
Anyway, what do you use for the graphics? Is it just the default for C#?

Just GDI+ (System.Drawing). I separate some stuff into layers so, for example, it doesn't draw every single block every single frame, instead only drawing blocks when they are hit or destroyed, stuff like that. For external libraries I think it only uses BASS.NET (for sound) and the Windows API code pack (for things like showing the progress in the win7 taskbar for the splash screen). There are a few other references to things like OpenTK but those are only kept around because of a few half-finished ideas to try to replace the BASS.NET Sound implementation with something more open and available.

Anyway, I made a class diagram of the game a few versions ago. It's pretty big.

Bit of trivia is that the "Spartan" level set isn't actually in the game code itself but rather is actually coded in %appdata%\baseblock\scripts\SpartanLevelBuilder.cs. I keep it there now so that I can be sure that the code that deals with the scripts and integrates them during startup still works.

Hi , in the past few weeks I could RUN allot of games like call of duty black ops and others, now all of a sudden I installed call of duty 5 and Tom Clancy's Rainbow six Vegas 2 , and when I launch it , nothing happens, But I know I can run those games without any problems, as I checked on canyourunit.com .When I go to task manager I see the process most likely as using 60k memory, But I also have Team fortress 2, which RUNS perfectly fine .I have Microsoft security essentials and my windows is genuine. direct-x is up to date, and also my drivers.
