Solve : What Brand amd 7970 is best??

Answer»

I was looking to get a Graphics CARD for one of my computers and don't know anything about Amd as I normally GO for Nvidia. I just wanted to know what are the best brands for a gaming card in the Amd range. ONES that PREFERABLY have a good warranty on them. Thankyou!!Most are just as good as the next one and most carry the same warranty. It's not so important who the cards are MADE by, as they're made to AMD's specifications for the most part.

My pc completely freezes/hangs and stop responding and it happens when i am playing games on it.
On the other side when i do general PURPOSE work i hadn't faced such problem.

So i think it may be game related.

-some unknown error

Therefore, If SOMEONE has faced such frequent freezing/hanging of pc as soon as you start playing game,Please do help me out on this one or anyone who can give guidance on how to rectify this error.

graphic CARD: 7300se/7200gs

(Note- Also i wud like to add that if this section is not meant for this topic, then please guide me where i could post this kind of requests)

Thanks in advance.Good evening HardwareTwitch and welcome to CH

Thank you for supplying some of the specs on your PC but you didn't say what games where being the issue.

You may want to LOOK at the video card if the video card was worked to hard the heatsink may have over heated and the heatsink is coming loose from the video chip. Those cards are on the low side of video cards and are only a 64bit interface. Also check that if the card has a fan it is not plugged with dirt & dust or maybe the fan is burnt out.

Hope this helps, Mike Quote from: hartbeatmr on August 26, 2012, 07:29:19 PM

As you told i checked the video card, my card does not have a fan and yes it has a heatsink attached to it on lowerside and and its little loose.

The problem i am facing is freezing of pc whenever i play game(online mostly), as soon as i start it my pc freezes.

On the other hand when i run any normal or heavy programs rather than games , my pc works fine and does not hang as it does whenever i try to play game.

I have used some programs like prime95 and furmark(around 15 mins) to stress test cpu and graphic card and they ran without any difficulty and didn't led my pc to freeze.

Its only happening when i try to play games, games might not be the reason i guess cuz they used to work fine earlier.

Guide me in any other manner possible to rectify this error as it has started to happen more frequently.

Thanks in advance

Good evening HardwareTwitch

If you think you may have a virus / bug download and scan with malwarebytes http://download.cnet.com/1770-20_4-0.html?query=malwarebytes&platformSelect=Windows&tag=srch%3Ba&searchtype=downloads&filterName=platform%3DWindows&filter=platform%3DWindows If it comes out clean which I think it will.

If you think it is just under heavy loads, update your chipset drivers, video card drivers and see it that helps.

Check for updates for your (for XP only) DirectX if needed, check for Java / Flash updates if the main issue is only on line.

Check the event viewer logs for errors that you have received that may point us in the direction that you are having the issue in I would tell you how to do this but you didn't say what your OS was.

The video card still maybe the issue and may be failing.

If it is happening more and more start with the above and let us know how you make out, Mike

Os i have------>windows xp sp2
I followed your options and these were the results i got-

-installed malware bytes and got 2 detected but that was some kind of installer in download section, removed them .Now none is there as detected by it.

-2 months back i guess i installed new driver for my nividia 7300se/7200gs.

- direct x i have is 9.0c, and that is the latest i guess.
checked flash version, newer is available--so installed it.

-in event viewer, under different logs i could not find any entry written with error sign
only found single warning sign under application log..it was something like this "source:userenv event:1517 user:system"

One more point to mention-i installed driver for graphic card 2 months back and then few days back uninstalled it, after reboot i didn't got any display.after 2-3 trials it gave display and had no nividia software in it.
so i again installed the downloaded driver version(6.14.12.8558) which.

Is it possible some sort of driver error may be existing which is causing such freezing?
if it is ,please do tell me how to uninstall it properly and then re-install the new version of it and where to get the newer version for my graphic card 7300se/7300gs.

All that is happening is whenever i start playing game, immediately after 1-2 minutes it hangs and jarring sound comes and i have to restart the machine manually.

Any more options to try out, please do mention it.
Thanks in advance.
I'd suggest Memtest86 on it. Burn this ISO from http://www.memtest.org/ to a CD or DVD and run it for a full test, might take a while on that P4. I have had a similar issue a while back with my Pentium 4 2.8Ghz HT and found that my memory stick when addressing around the 700MB of the 2GB Ram ( 2 x 1GB Sticks ), there was a problem. I limped along on 1GB and sent my defective Ram stick back to Kingston and they sent me a replacement stick all was well after that. Games that locked up on me were World of Warcraft, and Need for Speed Carbon. I was running a GeForce 7800GT videocard. In addition to this WoW was crashing with memory dumps. Need for Speed Carbon was a bit much for this system, frame rate wasnt the greatest, but it was playable. When running this game the minitower was pumping out lots of heat.

Also, your running 1.5GB Ram so you are not running a matched Pair and sometimes 2 sticks dont play well together. Also if your MOTHERBOARD supports dual-channel, your running single-channel on 1.5GB, so if you can match at least in size another 1GB stick or if you have 3 512MB sticks of 4 slots stuffed, find another 512MB to get 2GB matched pairs to enable dual-channel

Solve : xbox 360?

Answer»

how to make my console to play burned games because in my country there is no original disks !!!I'm SURE there are.might have but are too costly ok forget them may have to do a NEXT site question, thanks anywayI realize that in some countries it's impossible to find original console discs (or they're outrageously EXPENSIVE after import tax). I know where I'm living now (Thailand) it's like that, so I understand how it feels. If you find an original disc, it's going to cost you twice what it would in the US most likely. That's why people mod their systems and buy copies here for $5 or less. Even the OFFICIAL Sony stores here sell the PS3, but they quit selling games for them because they couldn't compete with the pirated market.

However, we don't help with piracy questions here. All we can tell you is to shell out that EXTRA money for original discs or check places like your local Craigslist and such for cheap second-hand original games.I think I found the solution because it is a service nearby that could help me with a thing

Solve : GTA IV - Installed to Windows 7 32-bit and getting WS10 error?

Answer»

Anyone seen the WS10 error before trying to run GTA IV?

Looking online I wasn't able to find a fix for this. Seen suggestions where this error code is in RELATION to cracked pirated versions. BUT I bought mine from Wal-Mart new in box with 2 DVD disc's inside. Have not installed any mods for the game etc, so it should run PROPERLY on clean install, but it is not. Was thinking that maybe Windows 7 Home Premium might be the cause since maybe this OS is newer than the game. I was going to switch to my XP Drive tonight and try that, but figured I'd check here first in case there is a patch or config file or something to fix this. I submitted a support ticket on this 2 days ago and haven't heard BACK from Rockstar yet. Buying this on clearance for $15, I was thinking I wonder if the game is going to be junk since Microsoft Endorced it with WINDOWS LIVE. Prior to this I owned Vice City and San Andreas. Vice City gave me troubles a long time ago on a different build due to PCI Graphics card not able to cut it, and that was fixed by upgrading to a motherboard with AGP SLOT and powerful video card at the time. San Andreas I never had any problems with. This version I am hoping is not going to be a $15 problem that I bought into as for I have good hardware and if the WS10 error code is what people say it is, its reporting a false positive for a pirated copy when its legit.

I am able to logon to my Windows Live acct and get to some place called a Social Bar or something like that where players can have discussions or team up and play the game I guess. There is also a service that runs related to this game in the tray next to clock.

Launching the game with the Disc in the drive, a black window pops up on the desktop and thenabout a second later a white alert box with this message.Good morning DaveLembke

I just found this maybe it will work for you. http://support.rockstargames.com/entries/479465-ws10-error-in-gta-iv

Hope it helps, Mike Thanks that patch at that site fixed it! Good evening DaveLembke

I am very HAPPY that it fixed it for you from what I found out it should have fixed it.

Enjoy, Mike

Solve : Java unrecognized in Pogo Scrabble?

Answer»

I have been playing Scrabble on Pogo website for several months. Now just recently when I have tryed to sign and play, I keep getting a SCREEN saying I need to install the latest Java. I did this but still every time I go to the website I am told to install latest Java. I have Java enabled in internet options, and I do have the latest version of Java installed. Why isnt it being recognized? Thank you.Your best bet to resolve this issue is probably through the Help option at Pogo. (top, right corner of the window) Open Help and type in "java" in the search window and you'll GET all sorts of guides \ suggestions \ information. After the "java" search results window opens, on the far left side, try the links in the Pogo Tool Box.

I haven't played at Pogo in a long time but their support was always
top notch for me.Thank you for your help, APPRECIATE it.I mostly played defensive against my mother and defeat her eve time she moves. UNFORTUNATELY I came to know that she don’t like to play scrabble therefore she lost every time. But thank god my son loves to learn new words and scrabble doing GOOD job.

Solve : Will Diablo 3 be a game suitable for me??

Answer»

Dear Gamers,
I am going to buy Diablo 3 but before I do so I want you guys to tell me if I will LIKE it I played the original Diablo (1977) but I didn't like it because I didn't know where to go. I couldn't find the places where you can solve the side quests and I couldn't find any storyline quest because there is no map to show me where to go. So i bought an axe from a village and went into a dungeon, the first level was a caso i thought the SECOND floor would be easy but it was darn difficult and I died soon. When I found out that I had to start all over again I just quit the *censored* thing. I like games such as KOA:R, BAA, BAC, AC:B, AC:R, Prototype etc. I don't like the clicking combat either so what do people like about this game? Will I be able to enjoy Diablo 3? Do I need to play the other two games first?I've not played D3 (or any Diablo for that matter) but if you didn't like one or both of the other ones, you probably aren't going to like Diablo 3 either, since it's based on the same roguelike concept. There are a lot of upgrades to D3 over the previous ones, but it's still the same theme.

There are lots and lots of videos of D3 gameplay on Youtube, you can check those out.

There is a D3 DEMO (Diablo III Starter Edition) out there. It was accidentally released ahead of schedule and pulled. Not sure when or if it will be made available again.

-=EDIT=-

Apparently it is now available. I can't get to my Battle.net account at the moment to check, but according to this page:

Solve : GTA IV and MSI R6870?

Answer»

So as i mentioned in my "GTA SA choppy" TOPIC, i just built a new system. its specs are as follows:

AMD FX 8120 CPU
MSI R6870 1GB GRAPHICS
8GB RAM
1tb hard drive
ASus M5A97 motherboard.

and my question is the following.

My GTA IV is running only on medium settings with 333mb of VRAM used up. Once i go to high tecture setings i get some Lag spots from time to time. Is my graphics card not good? i mean the game is 2 years old and i just got the card. ANyone have any ideas?Good MORNING comda and welcome back to CH

I did READ your other post and looking at your spec's of your PC I do have a couple of suggestions.

#1... Are you playing the game with a LCD and if so what model. Some LCD's do not have the same rez and refresh rate. So you will get ripping, taring, ghosting etc. So the issue may not be your card.

#2... When windows 7 was installed did you install the chip driver from the manufacture (not the ones that windows installs) then install the video card drivers.

#3... You can try to adjust (or tun off) in the game video options AA (Antialissing)

#4... Maybe a newer driver for the video card or believe it or not going back a version or two make help.

#5... Check game manufacture web site for a patch

Hope this helps, please let us know how you make out. Mike
THANK for this game.

Solve : GTA SA running choppy?

Answer»

so i just built my NEW PC and installed gta IV and GTA SA. Gta 4 runs good, however GTA SA runs terribly! My OLD pentium 4 runs it better why? I will list my specs at the bottom. When i launch the game it goes into a different scheme or something like that? is there a way to get this game to run smooth?

specs
AMD FX 8120 (8-core bulldozer)
8 GB RAM
Asus M5A97 Motherboard
MSI R6870 Graphics card.

Is my graphics card too powerfull or something for this game? its really choppy.thanks for all help in advance. This game I believe forces your graphics to 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768, which MAY be what you mean by different scheme.

What are you running for a resolution on your display and what size display?

On another game called DRIVER - Parallel Lines, I actually got better performance by backing off from ultra game settings, I was getting a graphics SURGE and then like a 1/4 second freeze screen then 2 or 3 seconds of really responsive rendering and then the 1/4 second frozen rendering. Instead of having everything to the max, I played with the graphics settings and got this issue resolved. I am using the ATI ASUS 5450HD with 1GB DDR3 which is plenty for the older games. Newer games also DONT chop. GTA SA, I went with the default graphics setting and had no issues, but if my memory is correct when going into OPTIONS for GTA SA there is a slider bar to adjust graphics. Been over a year since I poked around in that games adjustments. Only complaint I have with the older games and widescreens are that they weren't intended for widescreens and so sometimes you have to force your display to operate at say 1024x768 and end up with unused dead space on display, then launch the game and then everything is fine, while others like GTA SA I believe self adjust, but forcing 1024x768 to see if you get better performance might be an idea before backing off on video settings from ultra to normal etc. What Operating System are you running?

I know SA has unresolved problems running on Windows 7 computers.Quote from: Carbon Dudeoxide on August 06, 2012, 10:29:07 PM

Solve : Playing Android phone games on my PC??

Answer»

I have a favorite tower defense game on my ANDROID phone, and I would like to know if there is a way to play it on my PC?

Is there a program that lets a PC access the Android market and download and play a game (or app) on your PC?

Can I be the only one who wants to do this?Developers for Android use emulators. You can test a game on a PC. Of course, some things are different. A PC does not have a touch screen.
Google just announced a better emulator last month.
Google's Android emulator gets updated with GPU support, better CPU performance
Quote

Google brought some improvements to its Android emulator when it updated the SDK last month, but it's now back with an even bigger update that's sure to please developers. The latest version finally adds built-in GPU support, which Google SAYS will help the emulator better keep pace with current smartphones that rely so heavily on GPUs themselves.
Download Google Android EmulatorThe download link Geek posted is a version that's 3 YEARS old, which doesn't include the latest advancements they've made (which are talked about in the article in the FIRST link). The latest version of the Android SDK which includes the emulator can be downloaded from Android's developer site for free.

http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html

Shortcut Keys and COMMAND Line stuff can be found here:
http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/tools/emulator.html

A complete guide is found here:
http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/devices/emulator.htmlIts very easy to play android game on PC, all you need is to install the android emulator, where you can go to file and add external .apk file to the emulator and you can play the games on that emulator. But the biggest problem is the speed. The PC processor speed and android mobile speed differs a lot, so the games you are running on android mobile might have run very slow on PC. Since I am android game developer and we initially plays the game on PC and then install .apk to android mobile, speed varies a lot.

1. What is the FULL TITLE of the version you purchased. For EXAMPLE, I have "The Sims: Complete Collection".
2. Where did you buy it from
3. Your description of the problem is vague. Either way, if for some reason it came "modded" (which they don't, unless you downloaded it illegally in which case your aversion to spending monies on the product in many ways is the cause of the problem to begin with) there is no way to "unmod" it.

Solve : Computer setup for World of Warcraft?

Answer»

I recently ordered a desktop from the HP website. I mainly ordered it so I could play World of Warcraft smoothly. And I was wondering if it could run it on ultra? It's a HP Pavilion HPE h8-1220t Desktop PC.
• 2nd Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2400 quad-core processor [3.1GHz, 6MB cache]
• FREE UPGRADE to 6GB DDR3-1333MHz SDRAM [2 DIMMs] from 4GB
• 1TB 7200 rpm SATA hard drive
• 1GB DDR3 AMD Radeon HD 7450 [HDMI, DVI, VGA via adapter]
• 300W Power supply
• Wireless-N LAN card (1x1)
• 15-in-1 memory card reader, 2 USB 2.0 (front), 2 USB 3.0 (top)I wouldn't advise WoW on Ultra settings on integrated video. I've burned up a GeForce GPU that way on a laptop and my friend killed his quadcore HP on integrated Radeon HD3000. I'd stuff it with a PCIe video card if you want to go ultra which has a fan on heatsink of the GPU to cool it vs passive integrated heatsink.

300 Watt Power Supply is too low for reliable use with graphics card... you will need to upgrade to like 450 watts at some point.

I'd google it, but cant from corporate network "filters" so figured I'd ask here since I remember seeing someone here refer to minecraft at some point in the past.

There is only one variant of Minecraft. It's called... Minecraft. However, there are typically two versions.

1.The free version, which used to be called "creative" before the paid-version added creative mode in version 1.8; now it's called classic. This version is technically a VERY early version of minecraft. Some distinguishing features include a limited map size, no resource collection, blocks break instantly, there are no mobs, and there is very little interaction with the game world; no redstone, for example, no mechanics, etcetera. This is on-line only.

2.The paid-for version. This is about a million times better IMO. This version has survival mode, where you collect resources, build houses, structures, storage locations, and use things like redstone, levers, pistons, etcetera to create neat automated contraptions. It also features "mobs" both hostile and friendly;you can kill pigs, cows, and chicken for pork, beef, and chicken as well as LEATHER and feathers; Sheep can be used for wool which you can dye; These animals can also be bred so you can have a nice little farm going, too. It also has hostile mobs; these include skeletons, Zombies, Endermen, and creepers. These hostile monsters spawn in dark locations; this means that caves are usually populated with them, and they also appear above-ground after nightfall, which makes it important to have a safe, well lit location.
I like the game because it's cool to transform natural locations into your own creations. As an example, the level/world I usually play on my single player has varied terrain; I have bases all over the place; I have one in a swamp, one in a jungle, one in a desert, and one in another swamp where I found a stronghold (A fortified underground complex with treasure and a portal to the end boss dimension). I have built elevated railways going to many of these places; so I just hop in a minecart, press a button, and wait 5 minutes as I speed over the terrain. This is particularly satisfying because before I built it I would have to trek across uneven terrain, swim across rivers, etcetera to get to my different bases.

Add to this the existence of the other dimensions- particularly the nether, which is supposed to be a "*censored*" dimension, filled with ghasts, fire and brimstone, oceans of lava, and all that. It has a few unique resources- blaze, a unique mob in this area, are the only source of blaze rods which are needed to craft potion brewing stands, which you can use to create potions; blaze rods can be craft on their own into blaze powder, which you can craft with a slimeball to create magma cream, which you can use in a potion to create a potion making you invulnerable to fire (which is invaluable in the nether, due to the aforementioned seas of fire); it has glowstone, which is useful for a few purposes, as well as nether fortresses which are made from a unique netherbrick material that can be collected, and also have "nether wart" farms. Nether wart being a critical ingredient for many potions, too. One powerful thing for the nether is as a form of travel. A "nether portal" can be built in either the nether or in the overworld, and is the way to first get there; it is created by creating a frame of obsidian, and lighting it on fire with a flint & steel. However, when in the nether, building another nether portal some distance away will take you to a location in the overworld 8 times that distance, making it very useful for fast travel. My snow-bound base is located over 3 kilometers from the original portal in the overworld, which would probably take maybe 45 minutes of real time to walk to, but only takes about a minute each way from the nether.

I also like being able to hoard materials, like iron, gold, diamonds, redstone, lapis-lazuli, etc. stone/iron/diamond are used for tools, diamond being the best; because if my excess diamond I only use diamond now; I usually also "enchant" the tools I create, because I have a enchanting table in each of my bases. Enchantments give special abilities to tools; some might make it so you can pick up blocks directly; for example, normally, when you break a grass block, you get a dirt block; an enchantment of "silk touch" allows you to pick up the grass block itself. Others exist for getting more from certain blocks (fortune) having enemies drop more items (looting) and various other enchantments.

Single player is like starting in a world and then making it your own.

Multiplayer extends this concept to, well, many people. THIS is where you are seeing variations, because servers can run various plugins and capabilities; single player has "mods", too, but these have myriad problems. Most people see variation in the server sense, since servers run all sorts of different plugins. Typically plugins make it possible to TRADE items, add "money" for purchasing and selling items, and so forth; as well as things to protect from griefing, which is when somebody just goes around breaking things, destroying things, or building giant phallusses around the server.
Thanks for all the useful info BC. That minecart sounds so cool to get around quickly. On youtube I saw some people talking about private minecraft servers that their friends game thru their servers so I thought it was like open source etc where anyone can serve it up. Im going to give the pay-to-play version a try since its loaded with features that sound cool, and look cool on youtube videos. And lmao on the last sentence about what some people were building in the world. Not sure if there is a way to have a server look for structures in this shape or not to instantly destroy or if a GM has to manually destroy them. Definately would not want to be gaming and see the original cover of Little Mermaid with hidden adult structures in minecrafts background.Quote from: DaveLembke on July 24, 2012, 03:34:02 PM
Not sure if there is a way to have a server look for structures in this shape or not to instantly destroy or if a GM has to manually destroy them.
griefing comes in two forms: people going around breaking stuff, people building stupid pointless stuff- the former is far more frequent, since it's a lot easier. Often a "greifer" will pour lava or set fire to things.

Normally, on a "vanilla" minecraft server, fixing it can be expensive both in time as well as resources. Plugins for servers (such as bukkit, which is the most popular plugin-based server; the bukkit team are actually part of Mojang now (the company that makes Minecraft). Plugins perform several useful functions for operators and administrators of a server.

1. Find out who REALLY broke something or griefed. griefers will sometimes point fingers at other players, so it becomes he-said she said unless there were witnesses. Many servers use a plugin called "logblock" which keeps a record of who put what block where. In the case of Minecraft, this is very helpful because it also serves as PROOF that somebody is a griefer. This is also useful on servers that frown on stealing, since you can see and prove that somebody took things.

2. in addition to the above, changes can be rolled back. So if a griefer sets fire to a house, or pours lava on a persons farm, or what-have-you, a operator just has to enter a command to REVERT all changes made by the griefer, and everything is fixed.

Other plugins are available which make gameplay changes, or add a leveling system (mcMMO) which means that you gain levels at various tasks which gives you a few abilities and enhancements over time. As an example, a high "mining" level allows you to break blocks slightly faster and sometimes get double from a block; but it also gives you the ability to use "Super Breaker" which let's you break any block instantly for a limited time, which is incredibly useful on obsidian, which typically takes a very long time to mine. Higher levels means better "perks" and they last longer or have more effect.

Overall I have to say it's the game I play the most out of all the games I have, so for me that 15 dollars has really gone far. I also got to watch it go from Alpha, to Beta, and finally to release, and it is still getting very cool updates. Even the tiniest change can garner huge possibilities, especially when dealing with redstone mechanics for controlling mechanisms. Some cool stuff I've built:

-An "automatic" cactus farm. Cactus grow on sand and will grow up to three blocks high. Cactus can be cooked to make a green dye for wool, so I have a cactus farm near my 'dye workshop' where I've organized all my flowers, dyes, and so forth, which can be useful for building pixel art.

Normally, you would harvest cactus just by breaking it yourself; the problem with this is it can take a while, and if piece breaks and hits another cactus block it will be destroyed. My solution was to make some riggings underneath the floor. The cactus grows on the sand, but underneath each block of sand is a piston. I have all the pistons connected to a single switch, so by turning it on, I lift the sand up one block. blocks like cactus, wheat, pumpkins, melons, etc. that grow will "break" when you move them, so the cactus all breaks, and I just walk and pick it all up and replant it . I did something similar for my melon and pumpkin farm, I basically just walk down a corridor which causes me to walk over buttons that control a set of pistons. I'd take some screenshots for you but I don't have my desktop computer at the moment.

One of my favourite creations is my "grass" farm.

"Grass" or wild grass was added in Beta 1.5, and grows on... well, grass. You can grow it yourself with bone-meal, which you get from bones which you get from skeletons. using bone meal on grass grows grass and flowers in a given radius.

However, another interesting thing is that if grass, or flowers are on a block with a light level that is too low, they will "pop" out of the ground and become pickups the next time the block is updated (which happens when something nearby changes).

So, I made a grass machine, which is a box with a grass floor that has a small winding pathway that prevents any light from getting inside. It has lights inside so the grass (on the blocks themselves) stays around when I'm not using it. However, when I press a switch, it activates a clock mechanism underneath that continuously toggles a bunch of redstone wire underneath the floor, and shuts the lights off. So, when I go inside and place bone meal, because the redstone is immediately beneath it is constantly updating and instantly I get the seeds and flowers from the placed grass.

Oh I also made a "skeleton cannon" which is probably the most amusing thing I made.

sometimes you can encounter "dungeons" underground, which are just small cubes with a monster spawner inside- a spawner is a special block that, well, spawns a given monster. I found a skeleton dungeon close to the surface, and built a contraption around it. the skeletons spawn inside, but immediately fall into a water stream that takes them to a passageway; they are then guided up a tube with a blocked off exit. I wait near the spawner until there are literally hundreds of skeletons, and then press another button and open the blocked doorway, and the skeletons go FLYING out of it. I made changes so they got sent into a hole where they fell and took enough damage that I could punch them without an item and be able to finish them off.

I also tried to do the same thing with a two cave spider spawners (cave spiders, nasty things, their spawners appear in abandoned mineshafts). They are supposed to be forced through a spiralling glass tube that eventually merge together and sends them down a chute where they land on a fencepost, leaving them with 1 health where I could stand and punch them to finish them off (so I can get the experience points for enchanting). It doesn't seem to work properly and I haven't been back there for quite some time.

I think I looked at those two structures in this video, but I'm not sure. Most of it is me wandering about a cave mining and killing the monsters I encounter.

Other interesting things that can be built include "mob grinders" which is where you build a giant box that is pitch-dark inside allowing monsters to spawn, and then force them into a water stream where they meet some sort of grisly fate. and you can collect their drops. One particularly interesting one I saw was one that was engineered so spiders wouldn't spawn because it didn't have any 2x2 area, which spiders need; the system would guide the monsters (skeletons, zombies, and creepers) down a chute and water stream, and was actually able to separate them by taking advantage of their unique behaviours.

Zombies, for example, will try to attack any villagers they see, so the system had a opening where zombies would see a villager, leave the normal stream, and then be forced down a different stream for only zombies. Creepers are afraid of ocelots, so by putting an ocelot near said villager and a route on the opposite side, the creepers will run down that chute and can be forced down another path, and then all that is left in the original chute are the skeletons. I thought it was a very clever use of the behaviours of the monsters. I didn't even know creepers ran away from ocelots, for one thing. It's seeing the everyday stuff being used as core mechanics for unconventional "machines" that I think is pretty cool, too.BC _Programmer is BACK Quote from: Allan on July 24, 2012, 04:37:58 PM

I never left! I just like Minecraft Went to try the free online play and all the servers are reporting this error message with certificate, so I am going to run this on my beater laptop in which security isn't important. I build and blow away the drive on this laptop frequently vs my highly configured gaming system I am on now. Core2 Duo and GeForce 7300 should be plenty of power on my old Toshiba laptop to play this.

Thanks for all the extra details about the game, sounds really cool!!!!

[year+ old attachment deleted by admin]FWIW: For the "classic" free to play version, I almost dismissed the game entirely when I tried that.

I played it for a bit, went "people actually this, and was about to not give it another thought. Then people were talking about skeletons, creepers, zombies, pigs, redstone, and I was trying to figure out what the heck they were talking about; that stuff is only in the "actual" game. So I figured it was only 15 dollars, and bought it. Definitely glad I did!

PS: the game requires an older version of LWJGL, so it's likely the certificate is for the latest version. Though I don't know. I never play the 'classic' f2p version.Gonna take your suggestion to just buy it. I've seen lots of cool stuff on youtube in regards to minecraft and want to interact with it and be creative. Mind if I send you questions once I get playing if I have any, via the mail system here?

Sounds good. Like I said I was sorta on the fence myself. I bought it and wasn't sure if I'd like it. after playing it nearly 36 hours straight without even realizing how much time was passing I came to the conclusion that I liked it

LOL ... been there, but never went past the 28 hr mark myself. When I got in on World of Warcraft Beta way way back I hit 28 hrs and decided to call it a day when it finally gave me a headache. Prior to that only Super Mario Brothers 3 ever had me gaming beyond the 8 hr mark in which I spent 16 hrs playing Super Mario 3 on release day for NES.

I average about 3 or 4 hrs a day gaming these days at 36 yrs old, but it use to be way more time gaming when I had lesser life responsibilities..LOL

The one day I used the /played feature of WoW and added up all my toons that still exist for time, came out to be over 9 months of gaming over almost 7 years, and that doesnt account for many toons I got to level 20 thru 40 that I deleted and have unaccounted play time for. COULDNT believe that I amassed over 9 months of continuous play time over those 7 years in just WoW and during that time I also played many many other games as well.

We all have our addictions, and Video Games have been mine since the late 1970's on Intelevison and Sears Telesys/Atari2600.

Solve : GTA San Andreas Crashes?

Answer»

Hi, I have GTA San Andreas for the PC. Now, I play a multiplayer mod for it called San Andreas Multiplayer. I NEVER have problems with SA-MP. However, since I got the game, when I play singleplayer, it eventually crashes and comes up "GTA San Andrea has crashed and stopped responding" and it'll give me an option to close the .exe.

Any ideas to fix this? I tried re-installing, running as admin, and even setting COMPATABILITY modes and it just wont work. My PC def. can run it.

I'm using Win 7, 64 bit.Install CLEAN and select alternate path such as C:\GTA_SA\ then try running game by EXECUTING that EXE from the clean install location. I've seen where problems dont get deleted thru normal reinstall, yet if you select alternate path things work.

Solve : Stuttering in PC games?

Answer»

Hello,
since I bought my new PC a few months back, I've been experiencing very annoying stuttering in most games I've tried, for example SERIOUS Sam 3, Metro 2033, The Witcher. There are some games where the stuttering doesn't happen (Hard Reset, Psychonauts). The stuttering looks a bit like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgM2O8Ci4SU

The stuttering is not happening constantly like in the video though. It usually stutters for maybe a second, then for another second it's fine and so on, but it seems very random.

My HW is:
i7 2700k
gigabyte gtx 570 OC
msi z77A-GD65
KINGSTON HyperX Genesis 2x4GB (1600 MHz)
WD CAVIAR BLACK WD1002FAEX 1TB SATA/600
SEASONIC 620W
Soundblaster X-Fi
Windows 7 64bit

So here's what i've tried and didn't help:
- I tried replacing my gtx570 with old 8800GTS.
- I tried removing sound card.
- I tried removing one of the memory modules, try if it helped, then put it back and try with the other one removed.
- I also bought new motherboard (originally had asus P8P67-m Pro).
- I tried installing Windows XP, the stuttering was still there, although it was a bit different.
- I tested at least 5 different drivers for the graphics card, none of then made any difference.
- I've disabled HyperThreading, CPU parking.
- I tried a new clean install of Windows 7.
- I tried ps2 mouse and keyboard instead of usb ones.

Here is what helped:
- Setting the maximum prerendered frames to 1 reduced the stutter in some games (Serious Sam 3), but didn't help much in others (The Witcher). But even in SS3 where it helped significantly, it is still pretty annoying.
- Limiting FPS to 59. This removed the stutter but replaced it with a SMALL hiccup or frame skip that happens periodically every second.
- Disabling vsync removes the stutters completely, but then there is the screen tearing, which is not nearly as annoying as the stuttering, but it's still not a very good solution.

I will appreciate a lot if anyone has any suggestions what I could try to get rid of this problem completely.

Sorry about my bad english.I'd take a look at the monitor .. swap it out and see if that helps.
Good evening Alligator

I also agree with immental1200. It looks like you have tried many different OPTIONS to make the issue go away.

I do have 2 questions & 3 suggestions

Question.... did you try playing without anti aliasing this can CAUSE issues during game play?
Question.... Are using a LCD or CRT monitor?

Suggestion... Try using a CRT monitor if you are using a LCD or visa versa
Suggestion... Try adjusting your monitor (LCD or CRT) refresh rate to 72 or 75 Hz or higher instead of MS default 60 Hz
Suggestion... Try running your RESOLUTION a little lower
Suggestion... Do you have an option to turn off shadowing in the game options

I hope something helps you, Mike

Solve : {Help Request} - Silkroad Online Private Server?

Answer»

Ok, here's the deal, I play silkroad online, an old MMORPG, the game works fine on my windows 7 laptop, I mean, I even run multiclient... lolz..But, now I'm trying a private server, ATMSRO, see I DOWNLOADED there full CLIENT, I ran the ATMSRO.exe as Admin, and... Nothing shows.. waited over an hour.. it done the little loading symbol for a second.. but still nothing loaded, so I tried running without running as admin, still nothing, I downloaded their patch, where you can just replace their FILES with the original game clients files if you already have them, and still nothing loads.

BUT! if I run on my windows XP desktop machine, it runs perfectly..it loads instantly, so went back to the windows 7 laptop and tried running in compatibility mode for windows XP service pack 2 and 3, but with still nothing showing up.

I use AVG internet Security(Paid), and I set a firewall exception and a resistant shield exception, and still not showing up.

Could anyone please help me here? I've asked the GM, and he said he will look into it lolz, but thought I'd try and ask around see If I can get a fix. ^^

Thanks in advance.

Solve : Has anyone played Hexen 2 on their pc? I need help!?

Answer»

I purchased Hexen 2 for my PC. It comes with 2 versions the GL (which I can't INSTALL) and the the regular version. The game came out in 97, yet when I'm running it in the highest resolution, the game looks like crap. All blocky and PIXILATED. The game was known for it's superior graphics of it's GENERATION. It's looks worse than the original DOOM. I know this can't be right.

What is causing this? I know that my PC is able to handle games MUCH newer than Hexen 2. Hardware is not an issue.

Solve : What is causing this high ping???

Answer» Hi all
i am having this strange lag while playing Call Of Duty 4 for the past few DAYS which is due to increase in ping at regular intervals of about 10ms but that makes the game unplayable, the game becomes very slow .i can not understand what is causing this increase in Ping, lineman says there is no problem with the line.I just did a line check at dsl reports and it was pass but i had 2% packet loss. Its only when i play MULTIPLAYER games, everything else seems to be fine,SPEED it fine,no other noticeable problem so what to make of this, there is nothing running in the background, what should i do to find out what is causing this increase in Ping which causes lag
Thanks

High Ping is usually a result of the LATENCY between you and the host's server.

It may also be the result of another application or program stealing your bandwidth, for example downloading or online gaming.

Also, what is that picture for?Quote from: Carbon Dudeoxide on September 26, 2008, 11:17:57 PM

but for the ping i am certain there is no other program running which could cause this. And this problem is only spradic,it happens every 1 min for a few seconds in which the ping rises about 10ms and the game gets very laggy,it might be packet loss, line problem,ISP side problem, routing problem,my lineman says line is ok but i dont KNOW ..

And in the picture from left:Lt Vasques..Gaz..Capt. Price...Sgt Griggs.

When I play Halo PC online, I look for servers with the least amount of Ping.
Ping is basically time taken to send packets. For example, if the ping is 1000, it will take 1 second for the game to register that you shot someone, in which case you would have missed.

I meant you're mile-high picture.Well, not to cause you too much consternation, but I have never played "Call of Duty" either.

It probably is a sporadic problem between your system and the game server. You stated in your original post that you only have problems when you play multiplayer games. There may not be anything you can do.Quote from: Carbon Dudeoxide on September 27, 2008, 12:50:13 AM

Even i play on servers which have a ping of about 50 but even 60 ping should not be a problem, right?so here is the problem, when the ping increases from 50 to 60 it is due to something not quite normal and it causes the game to reel, frames are dropped, and the game stumbles. On occasions i have played on servers with a ping of upto 180 but this never happened, its not the simple lag, dont know what is causing this

No there is no problem even when online, overall speed is like always and is fast.As for the time, its been quite a few days now.You can try resetting your Router and Modem by unplugging their power cables for about 20 seconds, but I don't think that will do anything to help multiplayer lag. It depends on the hosts server.I've heard that you can change the amount of packages per second on CSS and CS 1.6. Ex. cl_cmdrate or cl_upderate
I used to have cl_cmdrate 40 and cl_upderate 60. It worked very well and I sometimes have lower ping than the host (Weird) (I'm using a 4year old HP laptop with 1gb RAM 60Gb hdd worst graphics card ever etc.). I don't know if it's possible to change the cl_ stuffs in COD4. COD4 is a great game!!!

Solve : Spore installation problems?

Answer»

I purchased Spore through Direct2Drive. I recently unistalled the game so I could re-download it in the correct location because the Spore patch would not install. I re-downloaded the game and follow the instructions Direct2Drive has for installing games. I used WinZip to open the SPORE_ddsetup. I doubled CLICKED on the setup.exe and click OK when User Account Control asks yes or no. Afterwards this POPS up

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate and have Service Pack 1, I have no idea how to even start to fix thisUmmmm......This sounds illegal.....

You downloaded Spore? It's totally legal, Direct2Drive is a distrutor owned by IGN. Heres the URL http://www.direct2drive.com/ , I opted out of buying and downloading through Electronic Arts website because they had a $5 download fee along with the game's regular price. D2D did not have a download fee so I just had to pay $40 or $50 dollars ... don't remember games price.I wondered if the problem might be my winzip so I tryed WinRar and so far its working. The game installed correctly hopefully it will patch correctly. THANKS for the help

Solve : Old game: hostile waters problem with removal?

Answer»

Running WinXP sp3. I think the issue doesn't necessarily have to do with just this game, but here is what I was doing.

I got bored of the games I've been playing and felt like playing an old one. Enter hostile waters. Different sort of game, thought it would be fun. FIGURE it's old I should get any patches. I get V1.01 and V1.02 from gamespot. Load the game and install patches. Get an error that I have the wrong CD in which is not true. Uninstall everything again and restart. Reinstall game and try it without the patches, it works. So figure one of the patches is for the UK version. Uninstall the game then restart, reinstall and install patch v1.01 only, then try the game. Same problem with CD error. This time I say forget the patches, they don't change the game much anyway and again uninstall, restart, install......... Then for some reason the game hangs up on me while installing. I may have been able to wait it out but it was TAKING more time than I wanted after what I had already gone through. I hit cancel on install and it still hangs there and then "my computer" window is not responding, nor does ctrl+alt+del work. Well it could have but after about 45 seconds I got tired and just hit the reboot button on the computer. Now my computer is lagging a bit on startup but does eventually work fine. But I figure something got a bit messed up because of the setup still running when i shut down. The game is showing a shortcut on the desktop and start menu group and FILES in the directory. I try to uninstall from the game's start menu group uninstall tab. Says it worked, but still see everything. I put the CD back in and the autorun brings up the splash screen and has the option to "play game" highlighted, which shouldn't be there. I hit the modify install and the splash screen comes up then asks with the standard windows installer "Repair, Modify, or Uninstall." I try all of them. They all say they work, but even after restart the same screen shows up when I try to do a fresh install of the game: that standard windows "repair, modify, uninstall," and not the install that should come up for the game. I try going into the drive location and delete all the files locally, put the game disc in and it still is finding something that says the game is installed. I try the add/remove programs tab and it shows a small "hostile waters" and change/remove. I hit remove and says it did it, but it still shows the game on the list. I tried going into "regedit" and found a couple regs for the game and deleted them. I don't think there are more, but I am not too familiar with the registry and don't want to screw things up. I know just enough to be dangerous. I went back to add/remove and it's still there even if I try to remove again. Gave the computer a fresh restart and it still shows the game there on the list. Now I don't know what else I can do. Am I missing something in the registry that isn't cleared out or is there a way to get it off the add/remove list? Or some other step? Thanks to anyone who can help.

I ALSO just did a SEARCH here about removing programs from the add/remove list and I looked at article CH000568.

I checked the registry again but there was no clear key for the game. I also got tweakUI, but either I can't find the "add/remove" tab or the article hasn't been updated for new versions of TweakUi, because I can't find a way to remove it using Tweak.

Solve : [Resolved] Ialmrnt5 display driver stopped responding?

Answer» EDIT: If non of the steps here work for you, please start your own topic rather than asking for help in this thread.

Hi!

How is everyone?

Okay, I'm constantly getting this error whenever I open up a highly detailed route in BVE Train Simulator. It will run with no problems for a few seconds, then the FPS rate drops, and finally, it crashes and this error appears:

Quote
Windows - Display Driver Stopped Responding.

The ialmrnt5 display driver has stopped working normally. Save YOURWORK and reboot the system to restore full display functionality. The next time you reboot the machine a dialog will be displayed giving you a chance to upload data about this failure to microsoft.

So I restart, and no dialogs appear.

I've tried:
  • Turning down the graphics acceleration, which at least prevented it from happening every time, but it still gave me that error
  • Updating the drivers. No drivers were found.
  • Closing all applications I don't need, still crashed
  • Getting the latest DirectX VERSION, which I did not install after reading that it only runs on Vista.

I'm out of ideas. I do not plan to update WinXP to SP3 because the SP2 installation didn't even finish last time, it only got halfway when I shut down my computer because it was getting late.

I've ran DirectX and Direct3D tests and there were no problems with the files DirectX installed.

I'm using Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2.
1.30GHz processor
256MB Random Access Memory
Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller
DirectX 9.0

I really do not want to go to System Restore or anything that involves using a CD-ROM drive, so it would be great if I don't need to.

Thanks in advance.

~~ dairymanJust a note: System Restore is PERFECTLY safe and very easy to use and it won't delete any of your files.

Can you try completely reinstalling your graphics CARD driver?Quote
Just a note: System Restore is perfectly safe and very easy to use and it won't delete any of your files.

Well that's a relief.

Quote
Can you try completely reinstalling your graphics card driver?

I don't know, but I do Display Properties tells me my monitor is plug and play, so probably yes.

Here's another bit of information...

I only get a low FPS rate and error in BVE, but not in anything else I have installed, which is what I don't understand.Graphic Drivers: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=922&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Home+Edition⟨=eng&strOSs=45&submit=Go!Thanks Carbon Dudeoxide, I'll try that ASAP (within this hour if possible).Time's up Hahaha!

Uhh, that didn't work. I tried it right after I rebooted the system and it crashed.Any error messages when it crashed?
How did it crash?

Can you try it again?Quote
Any error messages when it crashed?

Yes, this one:

"The Ialmrnt5 display driver has stopped working normally. Save your work and reboot the system to restore full display functionality. The next time you reboot the machine a dialog will be displayed giving you a chance to report this failure to Microsoft."

Quote
How did it crash?

It just crashed while I was driving the train, no warning, nothing. It just crashed and showed an error.

Quote
Can you try it again?

With pleasure.

EDIT - It crashed.
If you look in Device Manager, see any Yellow Question/Exclamation Marks? No, though I do see some red X's on the drivers I have disabled/am not using (e.g. Modems which I no longer own).

It only has 64MB of memory (Sssshhhh!) if that helps.
What exactly have the Red X's?The drivers that are disabled/with red X's:

  • SoftV92 Data Fax Modem with SmartCP
  • Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN

~~ dairymanOk.

As for the driver problem, it could just be the video card is damaged or overheating and not working properly.

Can you try putting a fan next to the computier:

Also, has this always happened? Thanks Carbon for your reply.

I PUT the laptop next to a fan, and there was no difference. So I'm very sure it's not over heating.

The problem has not always been there, sometimes it lets me play something detailed, but not everything, and it also seems more frequent when Graphics Acceleration is turned up to full.

Solve : Age of Empires II Age of Kings?

Answer» Hello peoples,

My friends James and Kayla are over here for a while, and it's over 100ºF outside, so we're sitting in here trying not to melt next to the fans.

I was wondering if anyone knew a way to remove or alter the population limit in Age of Empires 2: Age of Kings in multi-player.

I didn't FIND anything with Google that helped.

Any input is apreciated[/B][/COLOR]Hi there Iv got the game too. There are many patches for the game but these just do things like balancing gameplay and fixing bugs. The pop limit of 200 is the restriction and no one modifies the game nowadays coz its quite old.

You should be happy with 200. The ORIGINAL Age of Empires had a limit of only 50, now that IS RESTRICTIVE and no one tried to push the limit on that so yeah AOE 2 is the same.
If you want less limits then go for Age of Empires 3

Sorry

Solve : Review: Alienware Area-51 m9750 Takes Gaming-Laptop Throne?

Answer» Man, thats a lot of money but isn't it nice ?

Alienware has a knack for creating gaming designs that'll appeal to just about anyone.

The Alienware Area-51 m9750 ($4,708 direct), for instance, is a testament to how a touch of simplicity can enhance the design. It moves away from the flashy neon paint jobs in favor of a stealthier look Batman would love.

Stealth Black, as Alienware likes to call it, is an intuitive approach to adding subtlety while retaining the unearthly look of an Alienware gaming rig.

There's a lot to like about the design, but pulverizing the gaming opposition is still the main objective. That's why an SLI-enabled graphics chipset and a high-performance, mobile dual-core processor are ready for the task at hand.

For this, the m9750 supplants the Dell XPS M1710 as the gaming king, or at least until Dell can come up with a NEW rig.

Speaking of Batman, it may not be Alienware's intention, but I look at the m9750 as an ode to the Dark Knight himself.

I say this in jest, because last year the company released a Superman limited-edition laptop that drew a lot of hype.

The Stealth Black (yes, that's really the name of the color) exterior is reminiscent of Batman's ensemble, particularly the rubber-like layer draped around the chassis and the ridges that, to me, resemble his rib cage. (Again, this is my take, not Alienware's.)

The outermost layer also repels smudges, unlike the fingerprint-prone HP Pavilion HDX9000. The frame is held together by a magnesium-alloy composite, which safeguards your laptop from commutes between LAN tournaments. Of course, the design wouldn't be complete without the LED-lit alien-head logo.

Gamers usually demand large, bright, wide-aspect displays, with a heavy pixel count. The m9750 sports a 17-inch glossy widescreen with a 1,920-by-1,200 resolution.

Anything larger would require rolling suitcases, as evidenced by the HDX9000's 20-inch screen and 15.4-pound frame.

The m9750 weighs a manageable 9.2 pounds, which is lighter than both the HDX9000 and the Eurocom D900C Phantom (11.6 pounds).

The Dell XPS M1710 (Blu-ray) is lighter at 8.8 pounds, but its design definitely is no longer turning any heads.

I expect a design refresh very soon from Dell. Until then, the m9750 takes the throne.

I like the way the m9750's keyboard responds using the W, A, S, D keys, Arrow keys, and Shift and Enter keys. These keys are typically associated with shoot-'em-up games such as "Unreal Tournament," "Half-Life" and "Prey."

On the other hand, I found the mouse buttons difficult to press and impossible to use — this went for other tasks as well as gaming. Most gamers will use an external mouse, anyway.

The m9750 is as much a media center as it is a gaming rig. To start, it has three DEDICATED audio ports for a set of analog speakers and a subwoofer. It includes an optical-out port for digital audio, in case you want to hook up your system to your home theater.

I was hoping for an integrated ATSC (HD) tuner instead of the standard NTSC one. The inclusion of a standard tuner is still better than the Dell XPS M1710 (Blu-ray), which doesn't offer one at all.

You can find an S-Video-in port that'll connect a gaming console or camcorder. A DVI-D port is typically the norm for a gaming rig, but since the m9750 has an option for a Blu-ray Disc burner, I think an HDMI-out port would've been a better fit because it would let you stream both video and audio from the same cable.

The hefty feature set also includes a swivel 1.3-megapixel webcam and a cavernous 320 GB hard drive in a RAID 0 array. There are touch-sensitive volume control buttons, music, DVD, and TV toggle buttons above the keyboard.

The m9750 is easily one of the most media-rich gaming laptops available.

This is all well and good, but performance is the THING that really counts when your opponent is talking trash.

The Area-51 line uses Intel processors, which is what you want, as they tend to be faster than the AMD Turion X2 processors you find on Alienware's Aurora line.

Alienware does not use the latest Intel Santa Rosa processors or chipset, instead opting for the previous-generation Intel components.

Regardless, a 2.33-GHz Intel Core 2 DUO T7600 is a fast processor that will help drive up those frame rates.

If fast processing is a must, the Eurocom D900C Phantom uses an Intel Extreme Edition desktop processor (Core 2 Duo Extreme X6800). It also requires four fans to cool the system, but at least you have the bragging rights with processor speed.

Most gamers will tell you that the processor isn't as important as the graphics card.

The m9750 integrates two SLI-enabled nVidia GeForce Go 7950GTX cards.

The Eurocom Phantom has the same graphics setup, but its overall gaming SCORES were slightly behind that of the m9750. The m9750's 3DMark 06 scores (at 1,024-by-768) surpassed the Eurocom's by 3 percent.

The gap grows wider against the Toshiba Satellite P100-ST9772 and its single nVidia GeForce Go 7900GTX card. The m9750 nearly doubled Toshiba's 3DMark 06 scores. Its "Prey" scores are significantly higher (23 percent) than those of the Eurocom at 1,024-by-768 resolution.

Oddly, results for "Company of Heroes," a DirectX game, were dead even between the Alienware and Eurocom.

On SYSmark 2007, the Alienware's overall scores beat the Eurocom's by a very slight margin, despite the Eurocom's Extreme Edition desktop processor. One reason could be that the Alienware has dual 7,200-rpm hard drives.

Last, as with all gaming laptops, don't expect too much from the battery. The 96-Wh battery can get you only 1 hour 15 minutes into a DVD movie, which is the system's only pitfall.

After numerous paint jobs, performance configurations and media bundles, Alienware finally got it right with the Area-51 m9750. You'll need to cough up nearly five grand to buy one, but that's the price range you can expect with an Alienware machine.

The Stealth Black look is simple yet elegant, and its media components are some of the best in the industry.

What matters most for gamers is that their laptop can eliminate any kind of performance lag in a gaming tournament.

With its SLI graphics configuration, Alienware is primed and ready for that task.

BOTTOM LINE: A new Stealth Black design and SLI graphics allow the Alienware Area-51 m9750 to take its rightful place on the gaming throne.

PROS: SLI-enabled graphics. Dual 160GB hard drives rated at 7,200 rpm. 1,920-by-1,200 resolution. Awesome gaming performance. Home theater connectivity ports. Stealth Black is in vogue.

CONS: Mouse buttons need work. Price tag is fair but can turn you away.

Solve : Battlefield: 1942 - Resolution Help?

Answer»

Hey, In Battlefield: 1942, the max resolution is 1400x1024 or something AROUND there, my monitor resolution is 1680x1050 which makes in-game text and other things look really bad. Up at my uncles gaming center though, battlefield has a resolution of 1680x1050, does anybody know how to get that? or am I stuck with bad text and other things? lolIn-game ADJUST your GRAPHIC settings.

Full screen apps adjust the monitor settings according to whatever u say. Just be sure its in full screen and it shoudl be fine.Graphics is set to as high as it will go, but the resolution doesnt go to 1680x1050 like my monitor does, max is 1400x1050.. and I dont WANT to change my monitor resolution either and the game is running in full screenyou may have to change your desktop resolution while in game.... its a lot of hassle i know but thats all you can do...Isn't 1680X1050 widescreen? To set a custom resolution you have to go into the config files and change it there, then set them to read-only so the game won't change them back. I couldn't get BF1942 to run PROPERLY in widescreen, the resolution was right but the whole picture was stretched.

Solve : BF2 Help?

Answer»

I bought BF2 today and as soon as I load it up. It goes to the loading screen but when it tries to go to the game it just shuts down. Can I get any help on why its doing this?Double-click the BF2 icon, wait for the little box with the image to come up, then double-click it again before it loads. The "EA Games - Challenge Everything" video will come up and then it will work.Which windows do you have? This is usually caused by a refresh rate problem. Try setting your desktop refresh rate to 60 Hz and try the game again.I have windows xp sp2. I tried both ways, and neither works. As soon as it tries to go full screen it crashes. I don't know what the problem is, I can run BF1942 just fine.Do you have the latest update? You can get it here:
http://www.ea.com/official/battlefield/battlefield2/us/downloads.jspLatest update still no work. I think its my graphics card NVidia Geforce 4400. Would a Nvidia Geforce 5500 work?Neither of those CARDS are officially supported by the game, but your FX5500 has more chance of working than the 4400.
If you're a gamer, consider an upgrade, neither of those cards are much good for modern games.I think the 4400 doesn't support DX9 which is required for the game. On my other computer, which has a GeForce FX 5200 the game lagged horribly, the most I COULD get was like 17 fps.Ok thanks for the reply, I knew I would need a new graphics card because this one is old, as is the computer. So now I'm thinking I'm going to spend about 400 dollars when I get the money, because I also need some ram. I will probably go up to staples in town and ask if they have a graphics card that will work with BF2My advice is to avoid Staples, buy online and save the cash.
$400 will buy some great upgrades.Go with an online site such as newegg.com or tigerdirect.com. It will save you some cash and youll get the same product.

Depending on the SORT of gaming you plan on doing and the statistics of your current system you should consider what type of upgrade your looking at.

If your a Heavy gamer then look at spenidng more than $400. My rig is about $2,400.

Youll want a graphics card in or above the 7 series from Nvidia.
2GB of RAM minimum, especially if your on Vista.
A good power supply
And a CPU (preferably DUAL core) at or above 2Ghz. Intel seems to be cheaper and faster. My 2.66Ghz E6700 outperforms the AMD 6000+ 3Ghz.

A list of system specs would help alot.

Solve : Force Feedback Joysticks?

Answer»

Does anyone own or know much about the force feedback joysticks? I know they were expensive when they first came out. I haven't HEARD much about them since but I was just WONDERING if they are worth buying. I love the flying games (Flight Simulator and just air combat games) If they are good where would be the best place to look at getting one. I have a Logitech (sorry don't know the model or anything) joystick ALREADY it's nice, but I really liked the force feedback joysticks I tried out, but that was a few years ago. I'm not much into gaming...but if you're looking for force feed joysticks:

http://computers.pricegrabber.com/joysticks-gamepads/p/52/Thanks the Savior! I'll look into some of those.

Does anyone know if there are many games that support the force feed joysticks? Like i said I haven't heard much about them in a COUPLE years so I didn't know if it was a quick fad that DIED off. Or is it one of those things where most newer games do support it? Thanks!Quote

Does anyone know if there are many games that support the force feed joysticks?
It really depends on the kind of game, like I don't think FPS or RTS support joysticks but things like Flight Sim will support it.

Woah, http://computers.pricegrabber.com/joysticks-gamepads/m/6335703/
Those would be great for Flight Simulator. As far as I know it's just flight simulator games that support them, but I could be wrong.
That's the only use I can see for them though . . . can't play BF with a joystick . . .
They haven't died out and they are still around, but it's still a bit of a niche. Thanks everyone! That answers my question. You're welcome...

It'd be nice to know what you chose and how it works...so, give us a shout when you've made the jump...okay?Will do... I don't have the money to do that anytime soon but if I decide to do it I'll definitely post back and let ya know how it turned out. Once again thanks guys!I got a joystick and i use it for flying planes in Battlefield 2, its much more fun then using the mouse.

Tony I had the same problem, you NEED to install a specific version of drivers. What kind of video card to you have?Nvidia Geforce 7350LEFirst try installing the latest drivers for your card.

1. make a system restore point just in case. go to start>right click computer>properties>system protection>check off necessary hard drives>create... and follow the steps

2.download the new drivers from here: http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp you need to select graphics driver>GeForce 7 series>Windows Vista 32 or 64 bit (if you aren't sure which one you need go to start>right click computer>properties and look under "system type"

3. uninstall your old drivers. go to start>control panel>programs and features>NVIDIA drivers>uninstall/change, follow the steps. the computer should reboot and everything should look ugly. some windows wizards should come up, try to stop them if you can't its ok

4.install the new drivers you downloaded

Solve : UT2004 confusion?

Answer»

Hi, I am not a gamer and really un-computer-savvy. I am searching on behalf of my autistic little BROTHER. I bought Unreal Tournament 2004 for him (per his request). - We got it and he SAYS he WANTS the "original retail version" - According to my research there's something wrong with that program/game. He cannot get the internet... beacuse of the autism he may get himself into TROUBLE, etc.
Here's my question(s). - Can I just update this version for him w/o the internet on his computer?
Should I try to FIND that version even though it's bad? - and if so...where?
What do you recommend?
He has a PC with Nvidia card.
Any assistnace would be welcome and helpful.
Thanks,If you bought the game you should have the "original retail version" - a computer game that is sold in stores is a retail version. So I don't understand your question?

Project Offset is an epic fantasy game developed using the Offset Engine, built by a team of just 19.
You might not have heard of Project Offset and the chances are that if you have heard of it then you aren't reading this at all - you're already drooling over your keyboard as you watch the TRAILER below.

If you haven't heard of it though, don't be ashamed. The game has been a bit low-key, so allow us to enlighten you.

Project Offset is the working title for an UPCOMING game developed by Offset Software, a newbie development house MADE of just 19 developers, most of whom were indie developers. Built in the Offset Engine (They really like that word, eh?), the game is described only as a first-person shooter set in an epic fantasy world.

Very little is actually known about the game and it's hard to even confirm the release platforms, though we know it'll be appearing on PC for sure.

The game has been a bit of an underground phenomenon in terms of the hype surrounding it, which is understandable given how awesomely, magnificently gorgeous the game looks.

So, this is the first gameplay trailer for the game as all previous videos have been tech demos. The gameplay finally seems to be SHAPING up though in what we at bit-tech looks like a fusion of Assassin's Creed and Dark Messiah: Might and Magic, with lashings of Oblivion.

Solve : Heroes Game In The Works??

Answer»

After the massive success of heroes in America and in my living room there seems to be some SPECULATION on whether there going to make a game or not .... now we all KNOW with most games that get released from movies tend to be a load of rubbish but i have a good FEELING about this one as the overall heroes theme was amazing ... it made the x-men look like Thomas the tank engine ... i think once the series finishs here in the UK ...... if this game is actually ever released or made it will fly of the shelfs

Tony heres some more information on the show to know what to EXPECT in the game !!

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0813715/

They thought they were like everyone else... until they woke with incredible abilities.I don't like a lot of the games that were made from movies/shows.Ha same .... but ubisoft i think are great .... so i expect this game to be great ...... there is a fair few games that have been very successful in the movie genre .... rocky for the gamecube ..... star-wars battlefront....ps2..... i could go on but i dont want to bore you since you don't like movie tittled releases

I agree that not all are what i call ...... fantastic but i think this will be worth a shot..... all of the x-mens games suck.... lets see how this one turns out

Those were some really nice looking PSU's. I couldn't find prices on any of them lol. Maybe I just overlooked it.

What about this video card?

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2412161&CatId=318

That's really about the highest I can go right now. I just wanna get my desktop back up and running so I can start playing my games again. My laptop only has the INTEGRATED graphics so I can't play too many great games on there.
The only difference is the MB i wouldn't say its any different to be honest maybe slighly better but not a lot ...... those psu are being plugged on that site , your right in them not having prices you have to type them in say Ebay with the make and model and you will have your price and location.......Well I just ordered a video card lol. It's not a super great one but I'm going to use it until I can save up and buy a really nice one. So at least now I can play games while I"m saving. Yh thats a good idea buddy , although you got to be careful you INSTALL it right Yeah I was reading all the reviews on it and everyone said that it installed really easy so I'm hoping they're right. It got a 5 star rating with over 180 something reviews so I figured I'd give it a shot. To be frank its not hard at all.......just plug it in plug a POWER cord in screw it in and your done ...... i could go more in depth if you want just ask and i will pm you ......

Tony
Yeah, I don't think it's too hard. If I run into trouble I'll let YA know. But everyone was saying that it'll run some decent games. (even Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter) *crosses fingers* lol WoW thats awsome. I was just gona get Vista just for halo 2 but since you told me this screw vista lol

Thankshaha I feel the same way. Quote from: XRADEONX on July 28, 2007, 08:47:46 PM

keep in mind this is just speculation ..... so it could go either way.... but im pretty sure myself they will do it .... but there plenty of reasons why they wont as well.... windows are trying to get a lot of gamers to upgrade to this new so called BRILLIANT VISTA OS and i think buy putting this game on x-p people wont go to vista for dx10 gaming although to argue that we will all at some point have to upgrade...Well, there is a website that is advertising that if you buy Halo 2 from them they will include the patch. So unless they're planning on getting sued for false advertising then I guess they at least make a patch for it.

Solve : Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars?

Answer»

Dear Users
i have 6800 Ultra 256MB will command and conquer 3 tiberium wars 3 will work i have Pentium D 3.0,Ram 2480 DDR2 667Mhz Is that a 667MHz processor? It says in the specifications that you need a 2.0 GHz processor....Requirements :

Windows XP, Windows Vista (32-bit; 64-bit versions of Vista are not supported)
2.0GHz or better, or AMD equivalent
512MB or better
8x or faster DVD-ROM Drive
8.0GB or more of free hard disk space
GeForce4, ATI Radeon 8500 or better (ATI Radeon 9200 and 9250 PCI, NVIDIA Geforce 4 MX cards not supported.)
DirectX 9.0c-compatible SOUND card
Network, Internet Multiplayer: 2 players (no voice support) - 56 Kbps Internet connection; 2-8 players (with voice transmission) - Broadband Connection
Dear User
My Specifications are as follows
CPU= 3.0 Pentium D
Ram= 512 MB DDR2
VGA= 6800 Ultra 256MBYes you can play it ...... but i want to suggest GETTING another gb of ram.... minimum for this game is 512mb you have 512mb but im sure with more ram it will play a *censored* of a lot better..

Tony Yes, I agree with Richenstony, with the current amount of ram you have, the game won't run very smoothly.i doubt he needs an extra gig of RAM, maybe 512 Mb . that should do for now...
i can run doom 3 on my default HP Pavilion, with 256 Mb ram, on board graphics, on board sound, and a P4 d 3.4GHz cpu. on the highest settings even. it's a bit dodgy in some parts, but it RUNS smooth as for most of the time.Quote from: reaper_tbs on July 28, 2007, 06:00:02 PM

buying a 512 stick of ram , will work out more expensive in the long run its cheaper just buying a gb of ram and he does need another gb .......... games like this always say minimum 512 and you always end up needing twice that , well thats HAPPENED to me anyway , same with vista they say 512 minimum but u need at least 2 gbs to run that OS smoothly ..... im right .... im not wrong !!! HA! ....... sure he could play it with a extra 512mb , but it wont play great .....

Tony....don't bring vista into this. you can never have enough ram for vista. it's outside of the boundaries of what should be legal. On this laptop (vista), it has a gig of RAM but I still can't play Halo because it maxes it out....
