I have installed The Sims 2 on my computer and it runs so freaking slow that it's hard to play. what do I need to get running properly? Crime stories also runs slow, and it won't even think of running Oblivion.

Now system requirements for game are xp, 800 mhz or faster cpu, 256 ram, 8x or faster cd drive, 3.5 GB free space, direct x 9.0 for video and sound. video card must have 32 MB or more memory and one of these T&L capable chipsets: ATI Radeon 7200 or greater, NVIDIA GeForce 2 or greater.

The only thing I see is that i am a little short on ram, my question is, is their something wrong with the video card compatability, does the shortness of ram really affect the game THAT much, what do i need to buy/install to really be able to play these games?

Mandymy video card is an SiS 760 rev 00, is this T&L compatable?Ok first you should have the minimum RAM that is required if you want the game to run properly. Also you have onboard video. You probably need to upgrade to a video card to have the graphics run at their optimal performance.

Also your processor is a P3 and runs at 651Mhz. The minimum is 800. Now that's fine, but you are going to need to beef up your RAM to pick up the extra slack and take some of the load from your processor. That's also where upgrading and buying a video card will help as well. That way the video card will run the graphics for you. Helps the processor breathe a little if you will. Well I hope that helps you out.

And one more thing I would like to mention. If and when you get a video card installed, make sure to buy one that is AGP. Don't GO with PCI....it is way to outdated. Your motherboard has an AGP slot so you should buy AGP. To find it on the motherboard they are typically brown in color and are SHORTER than the PCI slots, which are typically white in color.If you're looking to game, you need a new computer.
There's just no way that you will be able to cost-effectively upgrade that PC to play modern games - it will work out a lot cheaper to start again.
Your processor is very old as gaming goes, you have an integrated video card which is no good for games, and you have very little RAM (I find XP is INTOLERABLY slow with 256Mb RAM, you have even less thanks to your integrated GPU).

I have the GAME football manager 2005 for the PC. The computer switched off when I was playing it and it says that the game is corrupt and cannot load the saved game. Is it possible if i get a new football manager 2005 game(which are very cheap), to transfer the saved game file onto the new game so I could play it? thank you

It would be easier to copy the saved game to a new folder and then uninstall the game. Re-install and move the saved game back to where you copied it from the first time. If that doesn't work then it's a safe bet to say that buying a new copy won't either. This way you save yourself some money.I tried it but it didnt work. I think it is the actual game not the saved game file that is corrupt so would getting a new one work?Have you tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it? Then start a new game and save it. Then see if it allows you to access that saved game. If not then it could very well be your game. I'm still leaning to the saved game file itself. Because if it was the game then uninstalling it and reinstalling it should have helped. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. When I was starting a new game, it kept on saying 'could not write this file' and 'could not save fixtures for a year'. When I went on to the new game, certain things were missing in the game and it would not let me save it.After you uninstalled did you restart your computer before reinstalling? Also you could try to save it to a different DIRECTORY. My only concern is that once you buy a new copy you probably can't return it. Also is this a legal copy of this game? You could try this:
Uninstall the game completely
Restart the computer
Run the ISSUES CLEANER in CCleaner and fix the registry.
Run the scan a few times to make sure you get everything.
Restart the computer again
Install the game and see if it works.Yes it is a legal copy of the game but it came free with the computer.

Hi, I HOPE this is the right spot to post this but I use JoytoKey in on of my games and was wondering if anyone is familiar with this program and COULD offer some advice.
JoytoKey let's you FIRE up to 3 keyboard strokes with the push of one button on your game controller, but it fires them simultaneously. I was wondering if there is a way to SET a delay between each key stroke. See in the game I play I have a set of buffs that I apply at the same time but they have a very short (2 or 3 second) delay in between them when I can't cast another BUFF so I've had each buff set to a different key on my game controller but what I would really like to do is have it set to one button.
I hope this is understandable. Anyways, if this is possible with joytokey that would be wonderful, but if not is there another emulator that might do what I need? Thanks in advance!

I had a GAME, maybe 6 years ago, give or take. I thought it was called Mercenary but I can't find any listing for it. It was a third person top down game, where you had the choice of a number of different mercenaries to choose from (I think you could USE any 4 at one time) and each of them could use any weapon. It probably looked a LITTLE like the Commandos game, except that you were ABLE to move pretty much anywhere within whatever map you were currently on. They were also able to use vehicles, boats, etc. It's been driving me crazy. Someone out there has to know the name.

I just got Ghost Recon 2 for PC, and when i join certain servers online, it tells me i cant join because i DONT have the MAP. Its usually "Dam", some night levels, and MAYBE one more. Can anyone tell me if there is a way to download those maps, or are they custom maps? I've tried UBIsoft site and had no luck. Thanks in advance.I reckon if you just try Google, or look for a website posted beside the severer your trying to join...They may be custom maps. It's surprising that you aren't able to download them before joining the server. Does this happen on more than one server? Or is it like that for all of them?

my brother and i both have the same, but OTHERWISE seemingly unique, problem. i have googled the problem and haven't found anyone with remotely similar problems. no matter what game i try it with, it LOCKS up with lan games. if it searches for a lan game( some games auto search, that really gets annoying) it just locks up. if it doesn't auto-search, itl lock up trying to host a game. i can PLAY online games just fine. No problems connecting to our server pc for files either. just cant do a LAN game. i could realy use some help here. thanks to anyone who can help.

also , these games all used to ALLOW me to play multiplayer just fine its just in the past MONTH or so that lan games stoped working.what kind of router do you have? is it wired or wireless?wired, dont know other than that ill ask my dad when he gets home

wow.... now im really cofused. i just got civ 4 and it doesnt crash when i host a game. all other games i try still do.

I been playing WOW on Vista lately and out of lets say 30 days I have gotten 6 or 7 BSoD and a few computer crashes.

its been 1 month on wondering how to fix the problem

FIRST i installed the 4 expansion packs, livin large, house party, hotdate, and vacation
after installing it, i TRIED to play the game, but theres an error message saying, "it has come to our attention that you install another expansion pack after the sims vacation, to fix this, the sims vacation installer will update the installed files"

i click ok and it updates it....but when it reaches 95% it gives another error saying, error transferring file...and after that error, it didnt update the game, STILL the error appears every time i played the sims

even what order i choose in installing the sims, still the error occurs

please help...I'm sure someone could help you. First why don't you contact EA Games at the Sims website and tell them the problem, they could help you faster. If that doesn't work, say and I will try and figure out whats wrong.

I want to make another NEIGHBORHOOD in the first Sims (not Sims 2), but I can't for the life of me figure out how. I have all of the expansion packs.

-JohnThis takes me wayyyy back. I had PLAYED the Sims a lot, but I lost the disk. When you see the neighbourhood, is there some BUTTON at the top of the SCREEN saying "Start new" or something? Try clicking AROUND. If I had the disk mate, I'd solve this easy. I used to be a real Sims fanatic.

Ummm i ahve DEVILS Maycry 3 Special PC edition but for some reason when i alt+f4 it it goes to a screen that says wuit yes or no. i select yes and press esc, witch is the selecting button but nothing happens. i can enter controls but i cant exit them its all very annoying. whats the problem?

I've noticed that when she is done and off line my Ram MEMORY indicator shows 31% or more when before playing the game it was 23% or 25%, also my system acts strange, like blue screen off DEATH shows (Windows has detected a problem ).......and I have to reboot... I'm looking for some help with a fairly old PC game which I have just bought - Blood 2: the Chosen. It has installed and loaded OK from the CD ROM, but once the game is launched, my mouse cursor is nowhere to be seen, and it is very very slow to respond to key presses from the keyboard - it takes about 100 presses of the keyboard to move down,up, enter etc... I managed to get the game running, but its the same, i have to press right arrow loads of times before it finally turns, not that great when you want to move fast!

Any help or advice would be great, I've been looking forward to playing this for ages. I've got Windows XP, and a wireless 'Belkin' keyboard and mouse, if that makes a difference...

smilerIt's hard to say if it will solve your problem but making sure your game is up to date is step one in game troubleshooting.
Step two would be to update your drivers.

I've downloaded the 2 latest patches, with no noticable effect. I'm using Windows XP, Version 2002, SERVICE Pack 2, and the computer has an 'AMD Athlon Processor', with 1.25 GHz and 512 mb of RAM. It's ALSO got a wireless Belkin mouse and keyboard.

SmilerConsidering the game is of older date you MIGHT want to try COMPATIBILITY mode.
Right click the game shortcut and select properties.
Select the compatibility tab.
Set a check mark in the box called "Run this game in compatibility mode for:" and then try the different options in the drop down menu.

Can you try a different keyboard?

I was trying to start a Tibia OT server. I'm using Zorzin BTW but when i got a guy to test to see if he could connect. He could connect but when he tried to make an ACCOUNT using the account manager it DIDNT work and he COULDNT log in or ANYTHING. The ip for the server is 250.205.242.189. It's not my own ip BTW. and the port the server uses is 7171. I can connect to my own server though and use it. I tried to troubleshoot myself and i found out i might have to port forward. I tried to find a guide for my router thing. Its D-Link, Dsl-300G, adsl modem. I couldnt find a guide for it. so maybe SOMEONE could help me out?

I am playing Myst and I am stuck in the Channelwood Age. I got to the second level went trought all the huts, FOUND the red lever and pulled it. I found the hut with the STAIR going down. I GET in the elevator, pull the lever and nothing happens. I don't know how to go down the STAIRS. Can anybody help me. I can see the stairs I just can't go down the stair. Well it all started when the fan in my video card started making a weird noises, like it was hitting the edge of something. After a few days of this all the visuals were screwed up. Everything was, the desktop, the internet and games all covered with patterns of mulicolored dots.
But then my brother messed around with the settings and got the desktop and internet back to normal but whenever I play games the mouse disappers the very second it stops moving. Also the screen is normal when I first start playing but after like 10-20 secounds of playing things start shooting triangles out from where ever they are and get WORSE the more I play(however when ever I minimize the game and reopen it it starts over).
Anyone KNOW of this? Is there anyway I can fix it or do i need to get a new video card? And if I do need a video card can anyone suggest a cheap ONE I could get? The most graphically intense game I play is probably half life 2.I think your graphics card is busted, try reinstalling the drivers and reseating it in the motherboard. If you're going to replace it get an nVidia GeForce 7 series card, you could probably get one for like $100 and it will run half-life 2 no problem.Thanks for the input. 7) Finished. To play the game, run halo2.exe using the included Loader.exe

Hey gang..... I'm about to upgrade my system with a ECS PN3 SLI Mobo and AMD64 X2 6000 3.0gb CPU with 4X 1gb Mods ,500W ps and a MSI 8600 GTS..... (another in two months).... I run Flight Sim alot.....I've been TOLD that SLI is'nt RUNNING well with Vista....is that the CASE? I'm wondering if the suggested compressed air cleaning would be an option here.

Gaming slows, even stops at times. Now and then I'm booted off the game site completely. (typically pogo.com).

P.S. I did attack this laptop w/ compressed air, as much as one is able to! We shall see...................) WandaLet us know how the compressed air solution turns out. Sometimes that's all it needs. The compressed air solution didn't help. My husband was playing an online VERSION of freecell last p.m. and at some point it kicked him totally out of the website. Otherwise, it would slow down and/or lock up on him.

Most laptops have a fan somewhere...and are temp actuated....see if its working...this sounds like a possible heat problem...also does the laptop have air SPACE under it when your playing? And select a windows version from the drop down menu.The problem is that win xp has a strong control of computer devices which win 95 and 98 don't have.
for instance, HALF Life 1 doesnt run on my pc, no matter what!(Sierra used to give away a patch, but now that support is on Valves hands they dont)

There is a trick that might help you, click with the right mouses' button on the game's icon, choose properties, go to the tab Compatibility and change "Run this program in compability mode for" and choose win95 or win98. BUT (why there is always a but?) some games wont work anyway.

I am pritty sure there is a way to install XP and 98 on the same machine, so you can PICK what op system you want to run at start up.

Ill try and find out how, i do think its just a matter of FINDING the disk and installing it.If deerpark's solution doesn't work, you can dual-boot XP and 98.
However, Windows 98 needs to be installed first, and it may be hard to get HOLD of nowadays.I do have a windows 98 program that I found in our office that has never EVEN been opened. I was afraid that it would do something to xp if I installed it. Maybe I should give it a try. I found a website where they do have the old games to download. Somehow they say it is compatible with xp. We'll see. They want $9.95 per game.Deerpark's suggestion should work. I have a PROBLEM with trying to run an online poker game called Scorepoker. At one time this game did run on my computers until the site did a game update which forces you to do the update in ORDER to PLAY.
I am running a Dell computer 1.99 with 768 ram, WindowsXP Pro SP2. IE6
My secruity is provided by AOL which includes virus protection and firewall.
My hardware exceeds the requirements of the game easily. When I try to start this game, a panel pops up saying that the game is making a connection. Then it changes to CONNECTED, NOW SETTING UP. This is as far as it gets. If the lights on the modem are any indication or the sent/received numbers are any indication, some network activity is taking place. Normally, once you get the Connected message it takes maybe 5 seconds for the game to launch.

I have tried un-installing, re-downloading and re-installing...no change.
The program has full rights within the firewall( I deleted and redid the rule just in case the application name had changed)...no change
I have shutdown my firewall and tried again...no change.
I have taken a download image from a jumpdrive(which was used to install Scorepoker on a friends laptop AND WORKED OK) and INSTALLED on mine ...no change
I have tried uninstalling, cleaning out the registry and any mention whatsoever of this application.
We used my friends laptop and connected through the same modem/line that I use and his machine worked fine.
All of my Windows updates are current.
I usually use an AOL connection. I tried using another ISP ...no change

Any thoughts or suggestions I cannot think of any other roads to CHECK. Hmmm not sure, but incase nobody can help try PKR poker !

I NEED to reinstall windows XP and need to KNOW what files to save in KQ8 so I don't lose ANYTHING when I reinstall it. Could anyone HELP me..... I assume that KQ8 IS a game.... And on that assumption I recommend going to your my documents folder and saving the save file in there it should be labelled KQ8 savefiles or somthing....

Also just encase, save the HOLE folder that resides in the program files folder

Are you asking for what's the best gathering skill to make money to support your instancing/raiding addiction, or which gathering skill is best to use IN an instance?

If it's the former, there are plenty of threads on that in this forum... The general consensious is mining/herbalism is the best if you can make it work for you (only can have 1 track skill up at teh same time), or for a little less hassle mining or herbalism with skinning. I'm personally going for mining/HERB

If it's the latter, it really depends on the instance.
UBRS ==> Skinning
BRD ==> Mining Dark Iron
DM ==> Mining for Rich Thorium or Herbalism for ghost mushroom
ZG ==> mining for rich thorium

Now if you're a high level and farming instances, Enchanting is good. I'd go for SFK and SM if your alliance (Gnomer is good if you can stomache the place). You can go in, solo the place and DE all the greens/BoE Blues. SFK is nice because of the sheer number of green drops off the trash mobs... SM is nice because its a bit higher level... plus money from the silk.

As I said above, I'm gonna go mining / herb. I chose to do a stint as an enchanter for a bit first though. I'm making a daily run of SFK (35-40m) and walk out with a bag full of enchanting mats.


The skinning item that only drop in instances are either (a) rare; or (b) on a guild claim. These items include:

- Pristine Hide of the Beast - Very rare skin off of The Beast in UBRS. Typically it's randomed among those who need it.
- Corehound Leather - Off the corehounds in MC. Typically goes to your guild bank.
- Onyxia Scale - From, WELL, Onyxia. Typically goes to the guild bank for use in Onyxia Scale Cloaks.

So, yes, Skinning can make you money ... but not from rare skinning materials. Its consistency is what makes money, in that a lot of what you kill as you grind is beasts, resulting in a decent supply of leather. And, unlike Mining or Herbalism, there are always mobs to kill for leather; there aren't always nodes to farm for herbs or ores.

However, I would say the best gathering profession for moneymaking is Herbalism. At 275 Herbalism, you can pick Dreamfoil, which typically goes for 1g a piece (depending on server). In other WORDS, each node is worth 1-3g. Not to mention Mountain Silversage, Golden Sansam, and Icecap, which all have decent going rates.

Enchanting will make you some money as you level, but its consistancy will hurt once you hit 60 and no longer receive quest rewards (unless you continuously run instances). You actually have to receive items to be able to disenchant them, so there's a lack of actual inflow of cash there.

I run Flight Sim alot with no problems....Currently I don't think it's worth it, since there aren't too many ground-breaking exclusive games at the time. Besides, most of the UPCOMING games are compatible with DirectX9, and can still run smoothly given the right HARDWARE. Maybe in a couple of months or so it'll be worth it, and we'll get to see the full power of DirectX10, but right now, I'm liking my "old" rig I built BACK in '05.

I have two games, Galactic Civilizations 2 and Freelancer and both of them crash in certain points whenever I try to load a saved game.
Iv noticed out of all the programs on my system these two games are the only programs that are in My documents/My Games where the SAVE games are kept.
It seems a bit of a COINCIDENCE that these two are the only ONES that are screwing up repeatedly.

Freelancer crashes and reboots and Galactic Civ2 crashes to windows with an ERROR report.
I can't figure it out. Please give me your thoughts.
Have you tryed a reinstall ? What system are you running? How MUCH Memory do you have????Has this just started?.... It sound like a Memory problem....do a mem-test and check your Temperature......
