Can ANYONE TELL me how to get the mouse to control correctly? Panzer General is an old MS DOS GAME. It runs fine on XP - with the exception of the mouse. Should I use a DOS emulator vs XP? If so how would I CONFIGURE the mouse on it? Thanks.

hey everyone is there a program out better than scar that has scripts for it aswell?Scritps and automation programs are forbidden in Runescape and will get you banned. Not if, but when. having played the demo, i think i can rightfully say this is one of the BETTER RTS i have played, the Economy is well done, and the massive maps and ARMY are well... excellent. up to 1000 sperarate units, all having there strengths, WEAKNESSES ETC. but the 'ACU' or Armoured Command Unit, i wish i had one in real-life, a 100 foot tall laser cannon wielding destruction machine, along with the PLASMA cannon, the AA gun and the abilty to create robotic troops ^^ the smallest map is apparently 10km to scale

WoW is good and is bad.  

Good because it limelights the pc gaming industry (which is really necessary in this day and age)
Bad because it might be all Blizzard spends their time with.  By this I mean it might make them say hey we have 5 million subscribers which is bringing us millions each month lets just make more and more expansions for WoW and scrap any other potential projects such as a sequel the The Frozen Throne, Starcraft 2 or Diablo 3.

Assualt: std rifle, Advanced Medical Hub, Grenades, Shotgun, Defibulator.
Support: Ganz HMG, Advanced ammo Hub, Grenades, sentry gun, Shield

Tactics: run and gun, Steal Battlewalker/Tank until it dies and then more running ^^

works for me... i got to Master Sergeant with it^^Recon: APM Mines,RDX Packs, Squad Beacon (dont leave home without it), Lambert Carbine,grenades.

Tactics: i rely on anticipating the enemies moves, stealth, accuracy, quick and lethal takedowns, and speed. also getting into any vehicle i can get my hands on. i always use my squad beacon.

Advice: "he who fights and runs away lives to fight another day." sounds cowardly, i know, but it is true, especially when outnumbered or outgunned. run and let the prey come to you.

Favorite thing to do: play titan, destroy commander toys, and baserape the enemies main base. (it handicaps the opposing team while making the enemy commander frustrated as he wastes supply drops to attempt to fix them; then he watches me resupply myself with his supplies and blow up his toys again [smiley=evil.gif]. in order to continually baserape, i plant a squad beacon in their base that is unreachable and unseeable by conventional methods) baseraping also keeps a number of guys from taking silos, as they are busy trying to kill the baseraper. (i have kept up to 10 guys busy trying to kill me, thats 10 people less to take our silos .)

the lambert is quite good i think (only stole it once) im only use Recon to snipe so i have never really used it... im currently working towards the Pilum H-AVR the engineer anti-tank cannon

RDX pack are also something i WANT to get my hands on in the near future,  U used the Zeller-H et? is it as powerful  as people say.

BTW have u ever had a lag problem? not a serious LAG thing but EA and my connection dont really agree sometimesAssault: any weapons I can find.  Also sometimes Support if we're heavily outgunned, the minigun really comes in handy in a 1-man charge to break out.
 
Tactics: Shoot them in the head.  Be stealthy.  Rely on your team-mates, but only online, 'cos the bots suck.  Don't rush in - survey the area properly.
 
Advice: Work together.
 
Favorite thing to do: get a Battlewalker.  Shoot everything.  Step on people.

The life savor... literally, with the assault rifles they can add to the weapons fire of the machine guns easily, whists retaining a lot of accuracy (in short bursts), the reason i would have no Baur, is the sheer recoil is no good for one or 2 targets that will attack, and the clip volume is to low if the enemy attacks in force, also, if they stand far apart, it means 1 frag grenade isn't the end of the defense, as one medic can revive the other and the defense can be back on track after a few seconds (if they Rez the Support first to cover them while they get everyone else)

Tactics:-
Most people think Engineers are useless in titan defense, unless they are used probably, the Pilum acts more as a scare weapon then as a precise kill weapon... it is, apart from the Zeller-H sniper and the Rocket launchers, the most powerful one shot weapon in the game (Infantry held)... the beauty of having this monster on standby by is... not only is it another rapid fire gun (the SMG they carry) to add to the firestorm, but if the enemy land on the titan, then u got a way to get rid of it ^^ (hence the Vehicle scanner)
If placed at the back of the defense line but with a clear line of sight for the Pilum, then it is also a good position for the Squad Leader, to overlook the current state of the defense, and to order UAVs etc

1 Recon

Now the Recon can fill 2 roles, Pick off enemy from one of the balcony, or Add more fire to the already impressive firestorm (Gun apply to former and latter respectively), the APM and RDX are more for more support of both the Infantry stopping side or the Vehicle destruction, and the Active Camo can act as a scout of enemy size and strength. i have two 19' LCD moniters,
my graphic card is a ATI radeon X1950,
i have a HD-8 channel sound card,
INTEL core 2 duo (2.1 gHz) for my processor.
My OS is Windows XP (SP2)

if you need anymore Info just askThis could probably go in hardware, but never mind.
Check the graphics card outputs available, either by physically looking or on the MANUFACTURER's site.
Then all you need to do is plug the monitors in.
Your graphics card may not have the right outputs fr your monitors though, which is why I advise checking.
You also need to use the Catalyst Control CENTRE, or whatever else you may use, to enable dual screens.
Having an ATI card and dual screens myself, I am somewhat familiar with the process, so if I haven't explained it well or you need more help don't hesitate to ask.okey dokey, i have Catalyst Control Centre, so no WORRIES there, im now gonna have a look for the ports OK.

I think I remember Neil talking about it as well, saying it was good.The concept is good, but the game is not finished in my opinion. Hopefully there will be lots of good UPDATES soon. The main problems are the poor translation (i means it), confusing interface and rather poor tutorial. I'd give you a basic guide, if I didn't have an exam in 12 hours... You can basically be a warrior (go around killing pirates later players), merchant (trade goods between ports), explorer (gain experiance from discovering historic sites) and craftsman (collect materials to sell to players or use to build ships\equipment). You can, and probably will have to, be all 4 to some extent on a single charector. But it can be quite expensive to pursue all 4 ROLES at the same time, at least in the beginning.

Ship combat is interesting, PRIMARILY because it's a NEW idea for an MMORPG. I've not got round to PvP. There is also hand-to-hand combat using swords/guns/etc, against NPCs, dueling friends, or boarding the enemy ship in PvP (or NPC ships).  Merchant trade gives you experiance BASED on the profits you make. Ports offer different prices for goods, but they remain the same so you'll need to find the best trade routes. Not tried explorering to any great extent. Apparantly it gives good experiance. Collecting resources for craftsman is very boring. You stop at a rock or tree or something and go eat, read a book, or meditate for a while. But it can give good money.

Overall it gives a novel and unusual game concept, but suffers from confusing concepts for noobies, poor translation and unfinished material (there are regular updates though). If you are interested in 16th century history or want a game with naval and "person-walking-around" activities, give it a try.

I'm trying to play The Lost Island of Alanna, but my computer is having some trouble running it (I'm using Windows XP).  First, it said I needed at least 3MB of virtual memory, so I increased the size of my PAGING files, which took care of that problem.  But now when I try to run the game, I get an error that says:

All I really know about the game that it was a promotional Cherry COKE game MADE around 1998 by Balmoral Software.  I've tried CONTACTING Balmoral, but I figured I'd ask here since you guys are quick and usually know what you're talking about.  Ha.

Just for the heck of it, I've included a picture of what the game looks like (it has red crosses everywhere and graphics are missing)...Well I don't really know the answer to everything, but it looks a bit like your video card is broken/damaged/ran out of juice...

AdvocateIt shouldn't be my video card.  It's still RELATIVELY new and can easily run graphics significantly more advanced than what's on this game.  It seems to be a problem with a certain file missing that's needed to run the videos.  But I don't get it because the game works on an older computer of mine that runs Windows 98.  I contact the creators, but haven't heard back from them yet.Try running it in compatibility mode for Windows 98. I have this problem where whenever I'm playing a video game it randomly minimizes itself and takes me to the desktop.  I have no idea what causes it.  It has happened for a long time.  It didn't bother me much before because I rarely played games on the computer but it's getting very annoying.  Any ideas what could be causing this?It sounds like a program running in the background that really likes your attention. What do you have in the background?just like neil said, there are some programs that like your attention and will minimize your game.

If you have antivirus software that does realtime scanning and updates, it may be causing your games to minimize (when the software updates or something)...I have the same problem... not OFTEN mind you but if still happens ( i notice cus i PLAY games a lot  ) its generally just my AV wanting confirmation of something... but it was at one point Instant messengers being angry at being ignored   , MSN was the main culprit... i just got rid of it... have you got any thing like that happening in the background?BladeWolf, is that you?

There's not much point worrying about tweaking while you only have 128MBs of RAM.You could probrably boost your windows performance with more RAM.  I consider 512mb a minimum for running Windows XP.  I had a secondary system with the same speed of CPU but 640mb of RAM and it had zero trouble running Windows and I could play my 2nd Everquest account on it in medium/low detail.

You should really follow the advice above and POST an everest report for us to see.

More RAM is your first step. Cheap RAM can be found anywhere. Good RAM is a little more involved.

Go to www.crucial.com and input it there and you can see EXACTLY what you need. Speed is not the only factor, especially on older machines.

They also have an online scanner if you do cannot find your MB. On obscure brands this is sometimes the case.

Your ONBOARD graphics adapter is not good even for simple gaming.How much are you willing to spend? Alright I have the old Deluxe Edition of The Sims, from 2000.  So, I installed it and I hit play, and it goes through the beginning part to where the words flash through the bottom like "Inverting career ladder.." stuff like that.

After that, it exits out of itself and goes BACK to my desktop.

now choose compatibility MODE, try windows 95 and windows 98 and see if either of those will work

Another THING to try is turning off hardware ACCELERATION in your display properties

Some older games unfortunately just dont run on XP so it may or may not be possible to play it(ive never tried sims 200 myself).

Hi all , i accidently found this site so i tought you guys maybe could help me...

I just bought a new pc and i was ancious to play newer games that my older pc didn't handled.

Specs: ASROCK 945G intel chipset ,  Pentium D 2.8Ghz Dual-Core , 512 667 mhz DDR2 ( im gonna double it as soon as i fix this problem) , Point of view Geforce 7600GS 256mb PCI-E  connected thru DVI to a 20" LCD FLAR CHIMEI monitor, 160 gb sata 2 ..

didn't oppened it up to see the cooling but the case is colder than my older pc.. and its a totally new pc so i thing its not the problem... neither is power supply..



So i come back home with the pc , install windows xp , drivers etc .. and then F.E.A.R And Elder Scrolls Oblivion .. i was pleased to see fear's loading was fast and it detected my system has High () but then the sweet surprise comes .. a 2-4 seconds halt and my pc reboots .. there i have it 2 hours after purchase and it made it first crash .. well i tried again i made pass the menu into the testing cutscene it looked beautyful until it crashed again and rebooted... i tought maybe it was the game but the same happens with oblivion and HL2 : episode 1 .. so i downloaded the latest GPU drivers from nvidia and nothing .. same thing happens ... so i try to reinstall directx but it doesnt seem to let me  ( it just doesnt installs everything it just skips to the finish part , what seems to be logical cause i already had 9.0c)

before i go back to the place i bought the pc i wanna try it myself coz i have a few days off and i wanna enjoy my new purchase

Do you guys thing reformatting and just trying everything from scrach can help  ? Well i dunno what to do i just hope its not hardware-wise..
If its the PSU what should i do ? its a new pc i thing they should think about it before they sell it..

Now when you go to play the game and it crashes it will show you a blue screen with an error code.
Write down what the error code is and its brief discription.

Reboot, come back and tell us what the report said.Ok done , but still no difference ... same halting and restarting so maybe the restart isn't iniciated by windows.. anyway im gonna re-install the OS for what it's worthWAIT!

Are you saying that there was no blue screen, it just restarted again?
If it did it would mean a hardware problem and not a software problem
The power supply could be a possibility, many times the cheapest lowest quality power supply is bundled with systems to keep costs down, just because it says it is 400watts  (for example) doesnt necessarly mean it can actually deliver, there are many garbage power supplies being sold for for under 40 bucks claiming specifications that are an all out lie and many are duds right out of the box.

Now you just bought this PC so you will have a warranty I assume and the symptoms are pointing towards a hardware problem which is not your responsibility to fix, I would get in touch with the people you purchased the system from and ASK them to check it out.
They should do it for free under warranty.Yeah that's what i'll try ...seemed strange to me that a honored pc retail store would sell a system with a PSU that doesn't supply enough power... and i even tried to DISABLE a few hardware device just to see if it has any difference..
Why don't you recommend re-installing ? it can take 1 hour and half tops ... and maybe it'll save me some headache Reinstalling the OS will not correct a hardware failure.

Possible devices at fault include (but are not always limited to) the RAM, video card, cd/dvd rom and the power supply.
The store you purchased from can swap these out one by one and test to see which is at fault.

I had Flight Deck III (FD3) and I thought it was a GREAT add-on to my FS2002 howwever since transitioning to FS9 and FSX I decided to install Flight Deck 4 (FD4). I've had problems loading the SCENERY. I kept telling me that it cannot FIND FS9 and also that it cannot find FSX in Window Registry. Note: My OS (WINxp) is in drive C: while my flight SIM games are in drive J: but that should not make any difference, should it? What is the best character that I can start with?leaving out cheating, the only way is just to play a lot, as for what character is best, its all your CHOICE on what u like.  Every race has different traits and can be suited for a certain class more than others.  There really is no best class or race.  You'll find out more when you play.you can pay some guys to level up for you. its also known as "power leveling".Theres a site called MmorpsGuides.com that claims to have level up cheats and many others but you need to pay 7.95 to become a MEMBER and have access to the files.

We were in line at midnight waiting to buy the BURNING Crusade...w00tIf you are caught cheating you will be banned.do NOT try and cheat! Blizzard is VERY strict about this and has occasional purging sessions where over 3,000 accounts have been banned.

To get a jump on leveling I would immediately find a leveling guide on the internet.  The quickest way to level is to quest, because most of your quests you happen to kill stuff to gain experience, so you get "exp" from killing foes and "exp" from the quests to kill those foes.  I'm guessing your in a guild so your best bet is to hang out with the guild to help you with any quests you cannot complete by yourself.  Keep yourself well equipped the entire road to level 70 (seeing you have the expansion) so you are able to kill and collect EASIER and faster.

Hello,

I am getting kind of desperate so I would appreciate any help and assistance you all are willing to give me.

For the last 4 months or so my PC will consistently lock up when I am playing certain games.  The computer will completely freeze and lock up.  It looks like a fixed screenshot has been placed on my monitor.  I can not ALT+TAB, CTRL+ALT+DEL, or anything.  The little LED that shows if the PC is working is not flashing.  There is no sound playing or looping.  I have no choice but to restart.  This lock up issue happens at a regular point in the game, depending on the game.  I have not bothered to time it but it almost always happens within 5-15 minutes from the launch of the game.

Currently the games that lock up on my PC are:
Half-Life (CS, TFC as well)
Half-Life 2 (DOD:S as well)
GTA 3

Games that are safe:
Metal Gear Solid

These games were working fine awhile ago, I do not know what triggered the issue.  The PC runs well and does not lock up when not playing the listed games.

What I have done:
-Updated all drivers and rolled back video drivers to older versions.
-Repeated reinstalls of the games.
-Ran AVG, Spybot, Adaware.

The most common causes are bad RAM, heat and bad power supply.

We now know a lot about your machine except nothing about these items.

What is the PSU make and WATTAGE? How old?

Check the ram with a free download at www.memtest86.com  Check each RAM one at a time then all together for 30 minutes.

Take the side cover off the computer and blow a house fan directly in there and play something for an hour.

Post back your results.I am not sure how old the PSU is, I would say as old as the computer between 1-2 years.  This is the computer:

It's 330W, I opened it up and it didn't seem to show any sort of brand name.

I followed your instructions, this is what I did in order.

1)  Ran MemTest.  It would repeatedly freeze at:
15% Test #4 [Moving inversions, random pattern]  * 0 Errors
-I repeated that and it would continue to freeze there at 15%.  Freeze as in completely lock up just like the problem in game.

2)  Played GTA3 with a fan blowing on the computer with the case off.  I could successfully play a game for an hour.  I stopped after an hour.

3)  Ran MemTest again with the fan blowing this time.  It froze at:
68% Test #7 [Random number sequence]  * 0 Errors still

I have one stick of 512MB RAM so I could not run anything separately.

Thank you for your help!Hm that is conflicting evidence. A freeze at the exact same point each time would suggest bad RAM, but if it lasts longer with a fan that suggests overheating RAM. I guess you could have bad, overheating RAM! You'll probably want to buy a replacement. Try http://www.crucial.com/ it has guarranteed compatability.The problems are still continuing.  What I have done:

1)  Updated and replaced my RAM from 512MB to 1024MB.  Completely different brand.

3)  Ran Memtest with a fan blowing on the machine.  It ran twice, 28:30, then froze.

When I have a fan blowing on my PC then I can play pretty much indefinately.

While installing the RAM I have noticed that I have no fan inside of the case.  There is a CPU fan, but no fan attached to the case.  There is a spot to attach one with vents leading out of the case, but I am surprised that there is no fan.  Maybe this is a heating problem?

You may need to uninstall and reinstall the game in case the install got wonkered from hard drive snafus during the lockups. If you are still having any problems do this.  

A no name, "el cheapo" power supply at 330watts could stand to be replaced for a LOT of reasons. Frankly they are just junk, and this can damage your other components. Think Antec and newegg.com, where you can also get fans, etc. El cheapo cases USUALLY have poor, or no ventilation designs.The above test was with the new RAM only.  Including Step #3, where it ran considerably longer with the new RAM and the fan.  I'm leaning on a heating issue.

Whenever I try to FOLLOW the directions, which say to PUT the skins in the download folder, they never show up when I PLAY the game. The directions say I should have *sims2skin or *sims2pack in the DOWNLOADS folder which I don't seem to have. Can anyone figure this out? I'm really out of ideas.

Al968Well you could tough it out and keep trying till you win, or you could go buy a CHEAT system such as "Action Replay" or "Gameshark" or "Codebreaker". I would RECOMMEND "Action Replay" because of all the extra features that it has.i would recommend action replay too. you can download gamesaves and HACKED gamesaves.

HP power supplies are notoriously small, so that will be the next place to look if you want to upgrade the motherboard/CPU or use a high end graphics card, BUT some have a proprietary design and you cannot just buy one off the shelf. HP are not known for true gaming PC's.hmm...if I was to replace the motherboard, get a graphics card, change the power supply, possibly add more ram, would it be more cost efficient to just buy a new computer (like buy parts and build it myself)If you do all of that you basically HAVE bought a new computer. A new one may be about the same price.

If you REMEMBER me i just installed my new parts, and i reinstalled windows, all my games, and the  other programs i used to have.  But now when i start BF2, it just sits there one the loading screen, the one that is a rectangle and says BATTLEFIELD 2 on it, and has a background image of a tank and some other stuff.  I was able to play it before, that was with a Celeron D processor, and a 5700 nvidia graphics card.  Shouldnt it still WORK with the new AMD and 7300 GT graphics card?Do you mean the menu loading screen or the loading screen for starting an actual level?

Hi all.
Looking for a quality, free or low cost program to record video, specifically from a game, to disk.
I know of FRAPS, but the free version is limited to BMP screenshots and 30 seconds of video max.
Is there a free program that will record for longer, as long as necessary?
I have a lot of disk SPACE so space isn't an issue.
Also, on a related note, recording the video to disk will reduce PERFORMANCE.
This would be cancelled out by using an external disk to record onto, correct?
But, would an external HDD be fast enough?

I have a SONY VAIO with Pentium 4, 1022.3MB, 3.20GHz... i dunno what else you may NEED to know but i dont believe my problem has anything to do with my specs.

Anyway, im trying to play Dark AGe of Camelot but i am having trouble installing it.  When auto-run starts the game and i have the option of clicking "install", "help", "Exit", etc - i click install. Instead of taking me to the games installwizard, i am directed to a Sony MPEG2-TS Splitter Installshield Wizard which has nothing to do with the game.  I dont know what this is but in the past (I have had trouble with other games as well), i just go to RUN and type D:\setup and that will go to the games installation. This time is different.
After typing in D:\setup and clicking OK, nothing happens.  When i hold my mouse over the start bar at the bottom of my screen than the mouse turns into an hour-glass. After this i am usually unable to do anything, even access the My Computer icon of the game without the comp freezing.

Like i said the Sony MPEG2-TS Splitter problem has happened on other games so im not sure its the games FAULT, however having RUN not work SEEMS to be assosiated only with this disc so FAR. Any ideas?I dont know whats wrong but I do know that some games require certain VIDEO codecs like MPEG2-TS Splitter to play the in game movies.

Only the last 2 are actually good.I'm gonna have to say Gears of War is a great game. It simply looks amazing with the lighting and all the other wonderful graphics. As for the new ZELDA game, I havn't played it. Though I was addicted to the games after Ocorina of Time came out on the N64 so Im assuming the game is a great game comparing it with the other Zelda games.I cant wait till I can get a copy of FFXII  its not out over here yet , very annoying but i do expect it to be a great gameCan't say I agree for Wiisports and that tennis game (best game? *censored*?), but FFXII and Zelda definitely. hey i upgrade my video card to a nvidea and what kind of games should i get? i like games like where you can get out of your car and do what ever you want (but i already have san andreas), i like war games, and street racing games or driving games.

Has anyone gotten Microsofts Urban Assult to work on windows XP?
I installed it and when I try to play it the game will go for a couple minutes then crash and cause the computer to reboot, I,ve already tried the compatibility settings and it seems to make no diff what the setting is it still crashes and restarts the computer.I had it working once, but it didn't work right, the AI was all messed up and none of the UNITS would move from there starting points. i was no fun for that reason. if you WANT to paly that game your going to need windows 98.Do you get  BSOD? I downloaded Act of War: High Treason from the Direct2Drive.com website.
and i played it once.
Next day i turned on my PC, tried to RUN the game, and it simply darkens my screen, and then pops me back to Desktop. [smiley=undecided.gif]

OK the deal is this. I had my dad pick up the game Black&White 2 a COUPLE of months back. Thats all good except the game calls for 512mb of ram and my computer has 512 but is only letting the game access like 483 mb so the game wont play. I know that the quick thing to do is buy a new memory stick for the computer. except for the fact that I dont have that type of money and my dads a tight wad. But is there any way that I can free up all 512 mb of ram or is it possible to just save the game straight to the hard drive and if so how do I do this.So some of your RAM is being used for an onboard video adapter rather than a separate card. What are the system requirement listed on the game case or box?

Al968"my documents" is where AoEIII stores its SAVE files. so yes, it does need access to it.

Al968im sorry i do not know how to change the directory. you might try looking for a directory change option in the in-game settings. if that doesnt work you might have to edit a FILE to change the directory. i would suggest going to http://google.com and trying to find instructions on how to edit the file(s). sorry i could not be of more help.

Even now I am having too much problems playing Ubisoft's ("Dark Messiah Might and MAGIC"). I have played first level with ease and no problem comes to me but when the next level starts and I ride on horse towards a palace, there is so much break and delay in my every movement that I can't listen the dialouges properly thay are delivering. It realy sucks.

I realy like this game but I have no option except quitting the game.

Please if some one knows this issue help me. I guess its a memory problem, what do you say?

Not sure if there is something wrong with my graphics.

But when I was playing Splinter Cell-Chaos theory demo and SWAT 4 demo, I kept getting texture FLICKERS and after awhile the game would crash to a black SCREEN and the only option is to reboot the comp.

I have a Radeon 9800 XT, with the latest driver.

I just had my HD replaced a few days ago and I've never had any problems with texture flickering.

I contacted Atari's customer support regarding an issue with the game Neverwinter Nights 2 and they listed this site as one of the ones to try until their customer support is relocated.  I originally tried to run this game on an AMD Sempron 2800+ with 1Gb of ram and a RADEON X700 AGP video card.  I have since upgraded to an Athlon 64 3500+, 2Gb ram, Radeon X1600 PCI-E w/512Mb ram, and Windows XP Pro 64-bit edition.  The error message I receive when trying to run the game is the same with either setup.  I installed NWN 2 immediately after installing all drivers on the NEW setup.  I allowed it to install the full VERSION of DirectX 9.0c.
The error message is as follows:
"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application."
The attached image is a screenshot of the error message.
I receive this message when clicking on play on the game menu.  Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated."I get emails all the time saying the same thing. People install the game, launch it and then get the error that the game won't launch and it lists this error code (0xc0000135).

Now, I have no idea what's actually wrong, this didn't start happening till recently after I reformatted.
I reformatted twice after just to make sure and it still does it.
Any videogame I play will run fine for a bit, on any mode.. High or low graphics, and will eventually TURN into a screen like this, and keep running, or sometimes crash.

the "f" word has been censored so you will be unable to give us a link to the photo unless the name is changed.I just changed it, thank you though.Go into display properties/advanced once there uncheck the "enable write conbining" box so it is disabled then reboot.
Ive seen this correct similar problems in the past with Nvdia cards.

And if that dont work
Other suggestions-
Turn off any overclocking you may have done and run the card at its normal clock speed and pipeline configurations.


Go to the Nvidea website and get the lastest drivers   http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_93.71.html , download them to your desktop but dont install them, next goto add/remove programs and unistall the existing video drivers.
Now reboot
Computer will start in super low graphics mode don't panic, Ignore the found new hardware wizard and press cancel, click the driver install package you downloaded earlier to your desktop, once finshed installing reboot once more.

Cooling upgrades maybe needed as the card maybe overheating, in that case you will need to get creative and build somesort of fan setup in there or just buy an aftermarket VGA cooler.


If all that fails- get it replaced under warranty or buy a bigger better card like a 6800 or 7600 series Nvdia.Thank you, tried disabling write combining.. nothing.. tried the new driver.. nothing.. Didn't have any overclocking.. I even tried setting my graphics card lower.. nothing.

Buying a new computer?  Buying a new computer seems a bit drastic.. a new card would probably fix the problem. Does your card allow you to check its current temperature using some utility? Before you spend money on cooling. Also, if you can, try borrowing a friend's card, and trying your card in his computer, to see if the problem still occurs.I just bought this card, I was only running a geforce mx 440 64mb before this.. and the TEMP is running at 36C  normally with a game running it's.. still 36c (GPU is 34C) Problem persists with both cards.
About two hours later, the car is running at 39c and the GPU is 37

I just installed it, and upon attempting to configure it, I get this message: "DXT TEXTURE COMPRESSION REQUIRED"...

I have no idea what this means! :-?

JohnI'm LOOKING on Google at some of the bizarre solutions people were able to implement... this truly is, from a technical standpoint, a strange game.

*One person said that a reboot fixed it.

*Another found something called "Support DXT texture format" in "D3D Tweaks section". I don't know what those are, but they sound like a good lead.

*Another person disabled full-screen and it worked fine.

Finally, I searched for info on your graphics card. Allow me to say that if nVidia says it's the "first chipset" to do something, it's probably old. Since I can't find any specs on it: How long ago did you get this graphics card?That card is a good few years old - you can find it here
It was before the GeForce series.The graphics card came with my computer in 2002.

You may be better to just buy a new card, as even if the game would run you'd probably get very low frame rates from your current card and the game wouldn't be enjoyable.
Try the things Dilbert suggested and see if they fix your problem.
If not, consider a new graphics card.

I would purchase the RAM above the graphics card, but it's up to you (and depends on your money). At least your RAM won't be made obsolete by DX10.

Yet another not-well-disguised anti-Microsoft rant with little advice value. He doesn't want a gaming console, he wants a gaming computer. The fact that the games he wants to play are not available on those consoles, at least not the same for the PC verions (BF2 for the XBox is very different), should be enough reason.

Because I want to support the game companies in their making of good games? Because I want to be able to play on multiplayer without going through the hassle of bad serial key?

Hey, well some of you might remeber me posting that my games kept crashing, well after sending my laptop back its now WORKING. Turns out it jsut needed the heat sink cleaning (which is what i thought). Anyway now ive got it going i want to play FAR Cry on multiplayer but when i click login it just wont connect. Ive set up my ports as suggested from Ubi.com and Portforward.com but Portforward.com just confused me. Anyway i did what i could on UBI.Com and it still doesnt work.
Oh also when i play it on singleplayer the ground is non existent. For example when im on the first mission, i think its the traning one when im in the temple its comeletely fine. However when i went outside there is no ground!!! Its just white, i can see all the trees, bushes, buildings etc etc, but not the ground, or WATER. Ive updated latest drivers, but i think its my grpahics card becasue its not the best (SiS M760GX inbuilt).
Anwyay any help would be apprecaited.

ChrisI'd say the missing ground is a result of the graphics card, it's pretty low-end (no offense).
Does the game even SUPPORT integrated graphics?
Far Cry's fairly demanding.

Anyone know of a free converter that is not bundled with adware/spyware to convert my radio stations in GTA San Andreas game to MP3's so I can play them on my iPod???

I found a ADF to MP3 converter through a Russian Website for my GTA VICE City, which surprisingly was a clean tool ... So I was able to convert those and now listen to them, but Rockstar Games changed to some other format it looks LIKE SINCE there are no file extensions. I suppose I could try adding ADF file extansions to the files in ANOTHER folder and see if they will convert with the Russian ADF converter...

I found a tool that will convert the San Adreas radio stations to MP3, but its bundled with crap like toolbars etc...

All right, I've got anywhere from $350 to $125 to spend on a gaming console. I like nintendo's games so i'm in for a nintendo not a PSX or XBOX. I like adventure games like mario, racing games like need for speed and a few other types. I may twist for the PSP if you can convince me its good. possibly a PS2 also. No way a PS3. Or the xbox 360. So that leaves me with the following:
-Gamecube
-Gameboy advance
-Nintendo DS
-Wii
-PS2
-PSP
NOTE: graphics are secondary to the games. (in my book).

The second question is:
Should I upgrade my pentium III to the following:
Pentium III 800
512MB RAM
80GB hard drive
Geforce 6200LE
CD burner
DVD-rom
for roughly $160

or

Build a new one with:
AMD athlon 64 3200+ (socket 939)
512MB DDR400 dual channel
Geforce 6600GT
for about $350.

As for the upgrade question, I'd say probably the second.
But bear in mind you may need more than $350, I don't think you could build it that cheaply.

What's the PC mainly going to be used for?The PC will be used for building games, multimedia, internet, office, and playing games. It'll  run 98 cause i'm not paying $200 for windows XP. I must incorporate a 6 series for this reason. 7\8 are not supported. As for the Xbox linux, I had considered it but they no longer sell xboxs. I think I'll get the Wii. However, I can fix up a Pentium III PC and get a Wii, or build a new one and settle for a:
Playstation 2
Gamecube
Nintendo DS
Gameboy advance SP
Xbox 1 (if I can find one...)

Unless you have a specific reason to stay with 98, 2k is much more stable and you'll have more software available.
If I were you, I'd fix up the P3 and get a Wii, you can always upgrade the PC again later if you want.
What's the specs of your PC at the minute?
And what games do you intend to be playing?Upgrade ur PC - spend as much as possible on a PCI-E graphics card.

Use emulator after that for any console u want, other than current ones.My specs are stated at bottom. I dont have ALOT of games and performance with a riva 128 is great for me so I cant see that ill need more than a 6 series. I'm sticking with 98 because I'm not spending any money on an OS, and dont want a bootleg version. I've NEVER had any problems with it other than drivers. A little sensative to RAM issues, but, if I do have issues somethings wrong so not really a problem. I'm getting an AGP card because I'm using my old mobo. The only problem may be the lack of bandwidth; its an agp 4x slot. I've verified that all the software I use will be compatible with windows 98SE, my OS. I do use it for games alot though. Will the pentium III be too much of a bottle neck? All I want is 30FPS any more than that is a bonus. I'll need a capture card or a TV because I dont have either. Which one should I get. I'm not getting a fancy one either. I have been playing F.E.A.R for last 4 weaks and every thing goes fine but now at the 5th level speach problem is annoying me, also sound is good and well with no problem but the only thing is their speach, somtimes crachters are speaking but with no voice>. , so I have to enable subtitles. I have tried my best to solve the issue by changing speach and sound vloume etc. But to no avail. I dont know whats wrong :-?.

Please help me. What are your system specs?
Sounds like a sound card problem - have you tried reinstalling your sound drivers?
Do other sounds work correctly?
