Solve : Are games region specific??

Answer»

I know that dvds have region restrictions on them but can any one tell me if games do?No, they will all work.
A pc is a pc no matter where it is.
Language is another thing.I was thinking that but didn't want to go spend the money just to find out I couldn't play it.

Thankssorry to object but games do have region restricitions.however, IM not quite sure if u mean PC games, or console games. if its PC games, i dont know. but if its conlsole games (xbox,ps2,n64, etc.) then yes they do have regional settings. the two types are NTSC and PAL. NTSC is used in north and south america while PAL is used in europe and all other OVERSEAS continents. the two are not compatible.Good point Homer.I was wanting to know about computer games. Guess I should have stated that.there was a little flop of a game called descent 3 in in 1999. it is an ok game, with two fantastic predecessors (D1 and D2) probably no one here has heard of it.  marketing basically failed to lift it off the ground, dev for d4 was cancelled, what a shame etc.
but, on topic, they had something that made the game useless in europe, with different languages it would show an error message and fail. And what i find quite disturbing is that they actually put this in on purpose. .
apparently last TIME the game wasn't such a hit in europe so they put the error in.\
but i don't think anyone will do that again. Those were the days.
http://www.dosgamesarchive.com/listi LOVE decent i used to play it at school during my elementary days. there were like 20 comps all networked together and we all used to play decent 1+2. i was second best, i just could not beat that korean kid...

ive actually been trying to find it but i havent come across it yet.Is D that one game where you're this girl in some mansion where theres like, dead bodies in closets and men in armor that will throw you down wells?

When a game is region coded cant you just buy a mod chip? It worked with PS1. I wonder if they still make them. I hope they make them for DS lite, i want the black one that came out in Europe. The white one is ugly.i have a modded xbox, and i have only heard of CONVERTING from PAL to NTSC and visa versa. not some chip that makes it compatible with both.

and no, Decent is a first-person-shooter where ur in a little one man space ship and all u the stuff u see is thru the cockpit of the space ship. u destroy enemy space ships (not men in ARMOUR) with an arsenal of lasers and missles.I love that game! I used to play it all the time too I lost the disk when I moved though... Good game there.

Solve : A Rainbow of 1 sq. inch squares...?

Answer»

For about 3 months now, I've been getting a rainbow variety of SMALL squares all over my screen, only when I play a game like BattleField 2, or Doom 3, I have a RADEON X800 XL (CPI Express) graphics card, my system:
Gateway GT5012
2.8 Ghz Dual Core Duron Processor(Intel)
1 Gig of RAM
Everything is standard, hold the mouse, keyboard, and graphics card.
I play World of Warcraft and rarely see it happen, although it does sometimes after patches. The squares go away if I restart, I was really looking forward to playing the Prey demo and this happens too, except with it, and sometimes with the other the squares were black and gameplay started getting choppy...help! I've heard it could be overheating, so I cleaned off the back of the PC, ick, ton of dog hair and dust, and it still happens when I play anything but WoW, a man can only play one game so long. Anything to do with a CD probably won't WORK, for some reason my top CD driver has screwed up, wont read disks, and a few weeks ago, stopped opening...YEAH boy, computers not even a year old...

I tried doing the update drivers thing in the other topic I just read, no such luck, just asked me to put in the disk, which SOMEONE lost.Heat, damaged graphics card or bad power supply are the main possibilities. I am assuming you have the latest patches downloaded from the game site and appropriate drivers. Spyware/adware/virus problems and a debrided and defragged hard drive with enough free space are also essential.

Open the case and blow a fan in there for an hour of gaming or so. Does this improves things? While the side is off clean out the hair, dust  and other residue in there and make sure all fans are turning. What kind of ventilation is inside the case? Can you monitor your temps?   Quote

Install the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website. You put up with this for 3 months?Yeah, I just got tired of trying and quit BF2, to be honest, I'm 14 and this card isnt getting taken in until a parent decides to use thes 100 dollar warranty. I'll try what you said, thanks, I don't have anything that lets me monitor temperature, its avery good card, shouldnt be any problem with memory, I've got a 226 gig hard drive, only using about half.

Solve : Fallout error??

Answer»

Hi all,

Thanx for being part of this forum. If I start fallout it always start loading and than ask me to STOPPED/disable all CD/DVD emulation programs running. I had it mapped in two drives on my PC.
I stopped all related services in the "applications" bar, and also disable same in startup menu, but still no luck. How can I get around this one?
Running XP Home on 1GB RAM, ACER 7600GT, 500W PSU, 2 x 160GB SATA & 2 x 120IDE HDD.

Please HELP.

Thanx
GeorgeG  When did this happen? Have you made any changes to your system recently? Have you tried searching the game manufacturer's webiste for patches?

FlameHi,

A week ago, but that was the first time I installed it. It tries to open up, but then it popped up an error
"shutdown all CD/DVD emulation tools" . This gives me an indication that some emulation programs are preventing it from starting up.
I'd used Daemon tools to hooked up CD 1 & 2.
No I didn't contact the manufacture yet.
Like I said I did disabled all the emulation programs/tools I could find, but no luck.

Cherio,

GeorgeG  I would say to check the manufacturer's website for patches. If that doesn't help, search their support documents and see if there's a similar issue to yours on there.

1. It started when i got my PC back from the company that was fixing it. or "ATTEMPTING" to.
2.yes it worked perfectly fine before i sent it away
3.when theres a lot of action my FPS goes gradually down to 1 then 0
4. 2.8ghz 512mb ram 120gb geforce fx 5700

Flamepower cut damaged power suply n motherboard.

it came back with a box called ASRock LOOKS like the thing where u inster usb ports and monitor etc on back on base unit.
Did this power surge perhaps damage your video card?

FlameWhen did this repair occur? Does the company stand behind it's works? It sounds like it is definitely not "fixed". Electrical surges can cause all sorts of damage. You're already down a PSU and a motherboard, right?yeh it says in my system restore calendar stuff was installed on 12th june. they have a 90 day warrenty. and yes powersupply and motherboard.Take it back and have them do it right.

I have the same problem, it worked for about a week after I REINSTALLED my windows, but now it's acting up when I play games as well. I have tried replacing the processor, and the graphics card, but that hasn't fixed it. I hope we can fix this, and I hope the boards arn't fried...yep,i phoned them up and they said they'd send me the latest drivers for my graphics card, coz of the display adapters. so im waiting onthem. if not they say reinstall windows,if tht doesnt work they say send it back to them. only problem is im going of facking holiday for 6 weeks today at 11pm

Solve : Diablo2 and LOD - saved characters?

Answer»

I had to reinstall XP thus deleting my diablo directory. I saved the Savegame directory on my characters (to another HD), but now that i cut and PASTE them in to the new D2 directory, it can't find my characters in the game!

Am I doing something wrong here? That is the right proceedure, i think you did not copy all the files that is needed to be supported as a save files
Anyway all game file should only have one save file. But that is WIERD that it did not workare u sure u copied the file to the right directory?? cause i had to UNINSTALL a game and when i reinstalled it, i pasted the save file to the wrong directory...STUPID mistake. I got it working. It turned out that I had totally forgotten about updating to the newest version, 1.11.

Thanks for the replies

Solve : BattleField 2 Commander Poll?

Answer»

The vehicle drop, EA's big mistake. the NEWEST patch allows commanders to drop a vehicle to be used as a form of "emergency" transport for soldiers far away from any VEHICLES or too slow to get thier own.

great idea, lets a person be able to get transport no matter where they are. however, there is a downside...CARTILLERY!!! the vehicle ACTS like dropping a load of bricks on an object. the vehicle drop can kill soldiers, destroy enemy commanders artillery, destroy tanks, APC's, helicopter, and stationary guns as well.

Picture this, ur about 2 seconds away from taking a COMPLETLY undefended flag, when all of a sudden, ur crushed by a vehicle drop.

Also picture this, the enemy commander is CONSTANTLY dropping cars on ur artillery and causing u to waste supply drops and MAKES u lose the ability to use ur artillery.

Now would u simply NOT do it because its not what the vehicle drop is intended for, would u do it if the enemy commander is doing it, or do u do it all the time??

Solve : Zero Hour . Help plz?

Answer»

I just bought a 2nd hand laptop running windows xp home. Pentium m 1.7, 1 gig mem, 60 gig hard drive and 128mb graphics. Now the problem is that it will not allow me to play any games that require a little resourses. I tried to play Command and Conquer zero hour and it will not work. I ran a programe from the disk that LOOKS at your system and reports back what it found. Hear is a snippet

Now i thought i would throw this over to you "higher beings " in the computer WORLD and ask if there is something that i need to do to change the settings or drivers or something ?
Please help as i have no idea what is going on and it is starting to bug me now.
Thanks in advance.

Also, Here is something that may help. When windows first starts i quickly run the programe above and it gives completley different stats. It comes back saying that all is ok. Then if i leave it for 20 seconds and run it again it sais the above , with the low stats etc. Could it be something in windows that is causing this ?im no expert on this, but might wanna try 2 things...

1. download the latest directx (i think the latest is v. 9.0c)
2. buy a new processorPentium M has different speeds depending on need and power source. May want to google on that for a while.

A new processor in a laptop is never a good suggestion. They are made for what they have. Quote

What other games & what happens?Command and conquer zero hour seems to think that my system isnt powerful enough to run the game and therefore wont start, instead it suggests i update my system before trying again.

Call of duty 2 comes up with a error message about direct x. something like "unrecovable error" and cannot continue.

Now have direct x 9 installed.

Same problem.

Also have installed all the latest drivers for everything i could find.

Solve : Best Games Hardware?

Answer» HEY in anotha topic i'm tryin to solve problems on me computer, however once these problems are resolved i hope to build it up with the neccasary hardware to play games very well. I've got a rough idea of what i'm getting but i would appreciate other peoples opinions on whts the best hardware for my budget. which is round £500.

Currently I have a 1.62Ghz processer
512mb RAM
20GB HDD
Geforce 5200 128mb

Wht can people suggest, the cheaper the better.

PS Please dn't give links to american shops as i LIVE in the UK.lets see....

double ur processor speed.
double ur RAM
X10 times ur hardrive
double ur graphics card (to 256mb)

the hardrive upgrade is optional, but ull want to be able to hold alot of games and videos and stuff. and 20gb aint gonna cut it.

for prices ill give u what i got.

processor- 3ghz $200
RAM------- 2X512mb $125
harddrive- SATA 300gb $120
graphics-- geforce 7600 GT 256mb $250

that works up to... 488.93 EUR

i also recommend adding ANOTHER gig of ram for an additional $125Yebo Gogo,

Would say that 1GB will do the trick, my specs:
Radeon ATI 7500 128bit
Plenty of HDDs (2 x 160 Sata + 2 x IDE's)
1 GB Ram
HT 3.4 GHz Processor
And I can run Half Life 2 on highest configs as well as Call of duty + some other high end games.
No fuss of PC getting eating up ram cause in play it uses max 28% of ram.
Prossecor usage round about 15-30% max
Try 1GB FIRST then up it later.

Cherio.
Advising a radeon as video card is already the start of a bad advise, whatver you do, don't use radeon as videocard, the card is good, but buy hercules or some other provider. What???  What you talking about radeon is probably one of the best2 save money you dont need a 300gb hardrive(srry to argure)but i have a 160 gb harddrive and i have at least 6 games and still more than half my harddrive left ,and about your videocard if you have agp slot thne i have both a nvidia bfg 256 mb and a ati catalyst 256mb cards but a video card shouldn cost that much unless you got a pci slot or pci express and by the looks of your computer specs i dont THINK you got a pci slot which is a good thing cuz agp is way cheaperbut ya you could probably buy a 100-160bg harddrive for under 100 dollars definetly ,and whta games you getting?

Solve : MS-DOS????

Im trying to install a PC Game, but an error window pops up saying:
16 bit Windows Subsystem
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications.

Even when I try to RUN MS-DOS "Command" this message comes up?
HELP!!!!  :-?This question has been answered so many times that we've engraved it in granite (marble was too expensive):

Autoexec.nt

Good LUCK.  8-)Thank you! I think the problem may have been the fact that there wasnt an autoexec.nt file in System32 in the first place!
It seems to be working now though, thanks again.   I can see how frustrating it may be to answer the same quesstion  so many times, but I can hardly describe the frustration of not succeding installing so many lovely games.

First, thank you very much for the patience.
Secondly, I strongly think that this certain thread is to be "sticked" in the first page, or have some kind of a link.

Anyway, thanks guys, I now got the idea of what the problem is [after more than five years!!], but how do I get the autoexec.nt file, if MISSING?Aniuzbek,

We have already established a link for this topic at Autoexec.nt

If you are missing your autoexec.nt file completely, you can get a backup copy from the repair directory. Follow the instructions at the link posted above.

This might be a good time to remind folks to check out the FAQ Solution Database section before posting. The most repetitive questions have been answered with TRIED and true SOLUTIONS.

 8-)
Right you are.
Pardon.

I succeed to install the LBA1 game, the one I wished to play again after the first time, in age of 10.
I's marvelous! So *censored* cute!

THANK YOU!
just....thanx   again...

Solve : Jedi Academy MP?

Answer»

I am having a problem playing Star Wars Jedi Knight Jedi Academy Multiplayer.  When I click jamp.exe to start the game it shows the multiplayer console and then the SWJKJA logo after that.  Once the logo displays it comes up with an error about 5 seconds later saying that the program has ecountered a problem and needs to close.  I have done a clean install and have removed all addons from the gamedate\base folder.  Single player works fine without a problem though.

System specs:
Win XP Home SP2
Nvidia Geforce 2 64 MB
512 MB RAM
1.5 GHZ CPUDo you have a Hi-Speed internet connection?

FlameI have DSL. How WOULD that have ANYTHING to do with loading the game to the main menu?  I could understand that having an effect on loading the game to the actual playing part, but not the menu.Anything part of the requirements is what you need. If I try to go to the main menu on Battlefield 2 for instance, I cannot go to the menu without having a Hi-Speed connection. When did this start? Have you made any changes to your system recently? Does the game manufacturer have any patches or hotfixes for thsi issue? Any game updates?

FlameI used to have this game installed a while ago and it worked fine.  At one point I uninstalled it to save room on my small hard drive.  Just yesterday I installed it again.  I also have it installed on my wireless notebook and it works fine there too.Something to do with that computer then... Some corrupt files possibly... Any support documents on the manufacturer's website about this?

Flameyou mean the game manufacturer or the computer?Sorry. Yes, the game manufacturer. Hopefully the corruped files or whatever this is are in the game itself and not in another part of the computer.

FlameBelieve it or not it works now.  The only thing I did was install a patch from lucasarts.com.  Weird thing is, is that I did not have the patch installed on my laptop and the game ran fine on it.  I don't THINK the problem was corrupted files because I installed the game twice.  Thanks for the help anyway.See, patches DO help!    Have fun

FlameYou must have an older CD; all JA discs sold today come PATCHED to V1.1.

Solve : Trying to prepare computer for gaming...?

Answer»

This fall, I want to get a new game (Phantasy Star Universe) for my PC. The problem is, I have no idea if my computer meets the requirements, or how to fix it if it doesn't.

This is what I have:
- Operating System: Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 2)
- Processor: 1.68 GHz AMD Athlon XP 2000+
- RAM: 768 MB
- Video CARD: ATI Radeon 9200 with 128 MB VRAM
- DirectX 9.0c
- Hard Drive Space: 12.6 GB

These are the minimum requirements for Phantasy Star Universe:
- Operating System: Windows 2000/Windows XP
- Processor: 1.6 GHz Pentium 4
- RAM: 256 MB
- Video Card: 3D card with 64 MB of VRAM
- DirectX 9.0c
- Hard Drive Space: 8.0 GB

It looks like my computer meets the requirements, but since I don't know what that stuff means, I could be wrong. I want to play Phantasy Star Universe on the highest settings, but I'm not sure if my computer's current setup would be sufficient.

For example, on The Sims 2, I can run everything on medium settings with ease, but when I have everything set to the highest settings, the game plays as if it's in slow motion. If The Sims 2 is any comparison to Phantasy Star Universe, then it looks like I'll need to upgrade something in order to play it without lagging.

Sorry if this was posted in the wrong forum, but I don't really know what I'm trying to ask in the first place. (If that makes sense)

Anyways, thanks to anyone that can help me out.Well, the Sims has always been a demanding series of game. As far as PSU (Phantasy Star Universe) goes, it looks like you meet the requirements. Your video card is above the required, so I would say that you won't have any problems there. Your RAM is pretty high, so at this point I'm not worried about that. Now, your processor on the other hand is just a hair above the minimum... That could be "iffy" If they will let you, I would suggest contacting the manufacturer's Technical Support Team, and let them tell you if this will work. As I said, the only rpoblem I see is mainly your processor.

FlameI need to upgrade my processor, then? All right, so how would I do that? I'm guessing it's not as simple as just buying one and plugging it in.Well, I'm not sure you'll have to. Usually your RAM and video card seem to make more of a difference. I would ask the manufacturer if I was you. They can tell you if upgrading the processor will help. I would hate to see you spend money when it's not necessary. Also, a new processor is not always cheap  :-/

FlameAre you sure your hard drive is 8.0 GB? Are you sure it's not 80? Just making sure, here. Anyways, the general rule about things that are "a hair above minimum" is that they will work... sort of... at the lower settings. Yeah, your processor is kind of old. It's not the oldest, nor is it the greatest; it's middle-range. Now, here's the thing. I have a AMD Athlon with appx. 2.2 GHz, and it can match a 3 GHz Intel anyday.

Flame, you are looking at only the numbers. the minimum is 1.6 GHz on an Intel. AMDs are inherently more efficient than Intels because of their design - as I'm sure you know; it's all elementary stuff. Anyway, my guess is that you can play the game at middle-low settings. Not what you wanted to hear, no doubt, but if you wanted to upgrade a processor is what you need to take care of.Well yes, but we want to play on the HIGHEST settings. Not medium. I'm not sure if that processor will do the job. It's almost impossible to tell at this point.

FlameI too want to play on the highest settings... j/k

I know. My only point was that it's not "just a hair" above minimum. Sorry, it's a hot day, I needed a nitpick.Point made. I hate when the manufacturers don't post reccomended system specs. on the box! You can never figure out if you'll cut it! A hot day?! Where are you? Arizona?

FlameHmm... I'm kinda lost now.

Anyways, let's say that for whatever reason, I do decide to upgrade my processor. Would I need to worry about any kind of compatability issues when choosing one? I'm not sure how the whole process works.

(BTW, my hard drive is 38.2 GB, and there's 12.6 GB of free space available. 8.0 GB is what's needed for the game.)Your current processor is an AMD. Your motherboard cannot support Intel chips; they won't fit. Also, take care not to damage the motherboard if you remove the old processor. Also, make sure you are provided with a special glue that attaches the CPU to the heatsink (which keeps your PC from overheating). Have them show you how to attach it if need be. Other than that, I don't forsee to many problems.Never heard of it happening, but make sure your power supply won't go nuts as well.

FlameThank you very much for the help! Now that my main problem has been resolved, I have another question:

Sometime in the next year or so, I want to get a new graphics card. The problem is, the newer/better cards require something called PCI-E, and I realized that I only have PCI. Eh... obviously, I have no idea what that's supposed to mean, but it looks like I'll need to update another thing on my computer before I can use a newer graphics card. Hopefully the solution isn't too expensive... x_xThat would require a new motherboard, which IS expensive. (Mine was no less than $200, and my processor was $300...) However, consider an AGP video card, if your motherboard will support it. They're cheaper (A PCI video card for $150 will be got for $130 as a AGP) and they work better, since the slot was made exclusively for video cards.

And if you don't know what brand to get, the two top brands are ATI and nVidia. I personally use nVidia, but that's just because I have a history of success. I'm sure, however, that an ATI would work just as well.  NickLS7..... Quote

Also, make sure you are provided with a special glue that attaches the CPU to the heatsink
...... Sorry to jump in here , but I think Dilbert MAY have offered you a rather confusing comment ........ the "special glue" as he puts it  ....... isnt there to fasten the heatsink to the processor .......... The compound referred to is actually called THERMAL PASTE ...and its function is to ensure there is a proper heat transfer between the CPU and the heat sink.
If you are getting heavily into games......... I would suggest that you consider a new tower , because if you start to upgrade your present one it could end up costing you as much as a new machine ......
Consider this ....... you would probably have to upgrade the :
Motherboard ,A new cpu c/w heatsink and COOLING fan , the hard drive , possibly the memory (ram) , a new video card (PCI Express or at the least a AGP) and a new PSU as well . Then you could either sell your present system or keep it as a good backup machine.

dl65  If you can get an AGP card, do so. PCI and PCI-E are good and all, but someone told me something about performance or something... It shares its resources? Anyone remember I think Raptor saying that?

there is a--Bin image-299.173KB
    Cue File for image-1KB
     MSInfo Document-1KB
can you tell me how to get it to work???We don't do cracks/warez, etc. here, so Google is your only hope:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=how+to+use+iso+busterNot to critisize but personally I wouldn't even leave a Google link.

If you come to this forum looking for help, do not expect us to give you the answers to your homework questions, or to help you do ANYTHING illegal.
I reccomend you downloading a file called "Virus.EXE", it will really help you out on this problem!  Hi Just So You know It's from a web site called www.sharethefiles.com and thats where we fine people share our goods to one and enougherany WAY to me has a new member to that site i have no idea if shareing your goods to others is a bad thing because i always thought shareing was free, but whats the betting you people thats answeared to me at mo' have downloaded a film or soft where so who are you to speak when you just talk out your *censored* like a twat you are.     if it's given for free then it's free to those who pick up the coin from the floor ( shouold we illegal jews for picking up 2 pee's  after all it's what others as hernd and dropped it for free to pick up at any time) if you shout it should we not ear or should will take notice??
Think before you speak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Guys, I just perused the FAQ:

Quote
4. No FTP servers or direct links to copyrighted material! This is strictly forbidden! This includes using online file hosting such as RapidShare or Megaupload.

5. No cracks, serials or keygens! This includes requesting and even linking to websites that directly host them. Providing information on how to crack, hack or bypass copy protection is also not ALLOWED! Posting ed2k links to cracks and already cracked software or games is acceptable.

So... he  may be in the clear. What game is it? Quote
if it's given for free then it's free to those who pick up the coin from the floor

If it's a violation of the copyright there are consequences. What happened to Napster? What happened to those folks who GOT sued big money for P2P activity? They were doing it freely, too. Nonetheless it is against the law unless the EULA (end user license agreement) says differently.

Even if you pay Microsoft for the WINDOWS, it is not yours. You have paid to use it on one machine within the agreement you gave your approval to when you opened the wrapper. That doesn't mean you can give away their property to however many people would download it on the Internet. Don't believe me? "Software piracy is the illegal reproduction and distribution of software applications, whether for business or personal use." You can read ALL of the details here:

http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/how.mspx

I may not agree with all of this, but the law is the law. If I stole your car and gave it to someone, is it OK because they got it for free?

Think this through. Please try to realize that whatever you may happen to believe does not overrule the law in any country.

Do you work for free? Do you think programmers should do so? Or the companies that hire them and pay their salaries? If you P2P a program do you send them some cash for their work as you are using it as well as the original purchaser? Of course not.

As for your assumption that we do what you do so we are not entitled to an opinion of integrity - Who made that up? Some people are morally and ethically driven, believe it or not, and do the right thing, not the easy one.

I stand with my earlier statement. And we know where you stand.  basically earth is free we here 'cos the holy ghost wants to play no ones at fault but the holy ghost that's why she never walk the earth but we will have a heaven as you like to say. Anyway I was Born on this earth not because the government said i could but nature took it's cause there for what comes to me free ( on a plate) is there for free,  no law will take that, After all i do not sell nor do i find that sell.  A good lawyer could win that battle) anyway if i heard you say a answer in a question and i copied it is it my fault after all I'm not using it for money just to play that's why we have loop holes your find that you can never close them 'cos the WORLD was free and in the dark it will always be free
basically the government is trying to take are testicles and tell us we have to pay tax for having kids and insure-rents anyway life will forget about it's birth and jump to what it finds exciting and that way a holy ghost and life continues in pain,  yes it's true........the di vinci code is shite in it's way as i say when you read this and reply you know your body is not hot inside ( not talking about blushing ) but karma and nirvana your empty a settled carm  in your body me i burn in mine could i feel inside deep it's the same as celebrity and normal folk we look cool you don't and you know you will look at us and we want look at you It's the same fire as Jesus, had in him he gave religion we give enterainment but i went dark for what people did and i say hows your law now.................................... ..............................if i see free then i give for free like free is given to me no law will change this and it's the same as his mighty words I'll help you build you give me porn or game to play

anyway the game is called ......................Space HackSpace Hack is a retail game. By illegally downloading, you are stealing $20 from the developers. Your thinking is flawed; people should get rewarded for making this game. They do so by selling the game. You are attempting to cheat them, and we will have no part of it.Interesting thoughts but try this out. Speed through a school zone and when you get pulled over tell the police they cannot ticket you because you don't believe in that law. After you pay your fine, get back to us.

If its illegal ist illegal dont do it and you wont get introuble. My recomendation to you is to stop what you are doing and delete the iso from your HDD and destroy all copys of the disk and wipe the program from your computer. Dont you have any common sence? Someone as simple minded as myself could track you as long as you remained hoocked up to the internet and if I wanted to I'm sure I could even see what you have stolen. Now if a common person like myself could do it I guernite that the athauraties could do it. If you live in a part of the world where it isent illegal to do such things good for you but most of us do live in such areas and I'm sure that most of the people here agree with me that we dont want any part of it. (note the word MOST used several times)Change that last "most" to "ALL" and you got it.

Look, plain and simple. It's illegal. Helping you makes us accomplices. We don't want that. We can't won't help you commit a crime.Wow hasnt this gone off topic a bit, he wanted to know how to extract  or something to get a game to work, i have a look and your all talking bout laws etc.

Ive done a lot of criminal law and data protection blah blah, most boring topic to study and basically if the crack isn't from the provider then it is not genuine and it is an offence to use.  As the mod said they make the game, you buy it as a reward to them, there wages WILL be cut if the game doesn't sell   Quote
...[gibberish deleted]...
I submit that you need to analyse your beliefs a little more carefully.  They are self-contradictory.  On this planet, we have limited resources.  We do not have infinite supplies of land, property, food, petrol, anything.  Those resources must be shared.  The way most cultures do this is through the concepts of economy and ownership, labour and reward.  To regulate all of this we have government and law.  If you do not like this, you can either rebel and risk the consequences, or leave the jurisdiction.  But I would suggest it's a little unlikely that you will find another jurisdiction that offers you the legal opportunity to take whatever you want, without consequences.

Yes, the concept of intellectual property is a little abstract, but as others have said, it is closely related to the ideas of labour and reward; investment and income.  Mess with that and you are supporting anarchy.  If that's the way you want to live your life, you should do so with your eyes open.  I concede that some form of good may occasionally come of anarchy (when a tyranical ruler is overthrown, for example), but I do not think that you can claim such selfless motives.

Finally, a plea: if you wish to communicate, it does help your readers if you can do so by following a few conventions.  Such as grammar.  Thank you.Basically if i dropped my wallet with hundreds of pounds in side would you pick it up and hand it in or would you keep it Knowing that  its someones hard hurned cash The answer is No you wouldn't  you would keep it  just like this game they drop it and i find it,  the same argument just contradictions and hypocrite ( I hurned it you steal it what more can i say) If I'm homeless and you give me food is that wrong since as i never helped the brand make money ...so really your full of crap just trying to be a little mommies boy

are you gonna help me extract the files or run of up to bed like a good little mommies boy

Solve : Oblivion, Leyawiin Recommendation.?

Answer»

I completed this Mages GUILD recommendation, up to the point where I had the amulet I was sent off to get, and was heading back to Leyawiin. I talked to the woman in charge of the Leyawiin Guild, forgot her name, and she says "You should give it to such and such"

Y'know, the batty old woman. I go to her and talk to her, but she says "Nothing has changed CHILD, the voices still cry out, and I cannot hear until they have been locked away."

The glitch is, I can't give her the amulet because she thinks I haven't got it. I have tried reloading my saved game, exiting and reloading Oblivion, mooching around doing other stuff and then returning but nothing works. I have also noticed that although this game totally rocks and stuff it's still a bit glitchy.  I like the LOOK of the ps3. I've always been a sony man, but im happy with my ps2 and they r still releasing good titles and as far as i can see will be for a while yet. So i think ill stick with my ps2 at least until the price comes down MARGINALLY.....Random...

I love random!

Still no ideas?'Allo?

Pleease! I'm really stuck like this, I can't progress through the mages guild! It's STARTING to happen everwhere now.... The main quest can't be completed unless I start again and hope the same doesnt happen! 24 hours wasted!

Solve : Il-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles?

So I have Il-2 FB and for some reason I never got around to playing it on MULTIPLAYER. Now I try, and I don't have the current version. Normally you would waltz over to the website and GET the patch, but when I go there it gives me some kind of Pacific Fighters bullpoo. I tried getting the latest update, it killed my game (it wouldn't start). When I try the earliest patch (3.03 merged), which seems to be the right thing, it mentions something about Il-2 FB, ACE expansion (which I have too) but it won't download! It opens another window in IE and it says the PAGE cannot be displayed!

Solve : U.S. Most Wanted cheat help... command line??

Answer»

I was looking up some cheats for the game U.S. Most Wanted Nowhere to Hide and it said to add -cheats -funlabs  to the command line. I have no clue where the command line is and was wondering if anyone could tell me. If you dont know what I mean plz look up  U.S. Most Wanted Nowhere to Hide cheats. thnxThey apparently want you to go into the DOS prompt, go to the directory with the game's .EXE file, and start the game with that switch. If you don't know how, then please post the path for the game (C:\PROGRAM Files\...) and I'll write a batch file to start the game with cheats for you.I'm not very good at computers but there is a:

EXP file located in    C:\Program Files\Activision Value\FUN labs\US Most Wanted\MW\Scripts    called scriptor,

a file, I'm not sure what it is, located in    C:\Program Files\Activision Value\FUN labs\US Most Wanted\Bin    called engine,

and theres another one located in     C:\Program Files\Activision Value\FUN labs\US Most Wanted\Bin    called launcher,

and a CFG file located in     C:\Program Files\Activision Value\FUN labs\US Most Wanted\MW\Cfg    called console.cfg.OK. One of the ones in the bin folder will launch the game without the launcher screen. Which one does this? When i click MostWanted in      C:\Program Files\Activision Value\FUN labs\US Most Wanted\Bin    , it launches a screen and i click play and it launches the program. Is there another one that just launches the game, no launcher screen? I think it's engine, but I'm not sure as I don't have the game. When i use engine it SAYS    interface.dll.dll not FOUND

I added that file to the same folder and it didn't show that message anymore. Then it said the same message about another 2 files so I added them. Now it says when I click it:

Error in file C:\2002\Src\Game\Mod\Mw\Common\GameData.cpp at line 40 in FUNCTION.
InitGameData: [SYSTEM ] Could not load Sound Scripts!
Caught in function InitGameData<-GameDll::InitGameDll<{GameApp:InitApp<-Main

I would need a program that loads the game - no launcher - to do this properly...when they say the "command line" for games like this, they mean the one in the shortcut file.

just find the shortcut on the desktop, right click and select properties and where it says target, is the command line for starting the game, just add the switches at the end of that and you should be fine.  be sure to put a space though

Now here's something i was thinking about that's mind blowing!

What do you predict or like to see what would happen to Games In out life time.

i'll start you off..

How cool would it be to Step inside a game! Like you have a gun and you are on the BATTLEFIELD you are maby on some sort of tread mill thing so you have to run etc. There is like a screen all around you or a like eye set. Graphics would obviously be IMMENCE!

Any other cool ideas?

I've read books (Fiction) that talk about VR and actually stimulating impulses in your body... well if the analog signal impulses can be transfered into digital and vice versa to have a real game experience... what would happen when the game would crash.. or if it got a virus?

Something to think about...I agree its probably not smart pushing the boundaries of reality.

R0SS Quote

R0SS

I like the idea of VR and simulating reality on glasses & Headphones... but going past that can actually ruin impulses.. ultimately causing a coma or worse...

if it's possible to translate analog to digital in a realm like that, and vice versa.. could you imagine the serious damage of a Bug, Virus... or misplaced format command?

Watch a Hitler like revolution be created by programmed humans.Virtual Reality is coming soon probably.

VR has been around for a while.. just not at a price the NORMAL person could afford...

I just don't like the idea of hardwiring my impulses to a machine... anyone smell a terminator?Would we want to?    It depends on what the terminator is SUPPOSED to smell like that I'm concerned about.

dogs sniff and eat their own feces.. yet bark and go nuts at terminators.. they must be odeous.I saw a show on TV a couple of nights ago where they had a guy inside a sphere that was capable of moving in any direction.
It was fully interactive with a computer program, he could walk, run or jump etc while viewing the program through a wireless headset thing that also tracked the position of his head to give the right view.Yeah I saw the sphere too. But at around $50,000 I don't think it will be popular for a long time.Yeah everything comes down in price, I was amazed when i say a 4 mega pixel camera with a LCD screen and everything for like £50 i remember when they cost 100s

R0SSYou know, a while ago (before 1999) there was a VR Gameboy console. I don't know how well it worked. My brother has one.VR that would be very nice but lol inside a game? I would want to be there and would'nt, for 1 reason to would not want to be in there is because of the injuries. If your character get injured dont you think the programmers want to make you feel that injury or a less pain method of that injury? But it would be cool being inside doom 3 or quake 4 and really taking over the BFG and blasting your way through and the visuals would be life like. Man the possibilites of making a complete game with you as the player are great... lol battlefield 2 with you inside... and online... with other VR fanactics. It would be total great.

What about GTA Just have a old car. and get in every now and again.
That would be AMAZING a massive city that you could walk around.

The only problem is people with Weak minds MIGHT then think its real and could kill and steal real cars.

R0SSVR would be good for an arcade, pay for half an hour or so.
But in you own home? not so sure, theres too meny weirdos out there like myself that just would not leave the house with something like that.
I'm not really sure what would be classed as VR
It all depends how real this reality machine is.
Why go to work while you could be skiing the French alps? Don't know how to ski? Download the skill.
Taste is a part of reality, could you eat virtual food?
I'm not sure what is how real VR has to be to be classed as VR...
Of course a seccond reality would be great for more professional uses like medical practices etc...
Still, bad idea. no man should be given such power.

But anyway.. talking of games, i'd love to jump in a game of BF2... 1st person shooters would make the most sense to PLAY...
Not sure how you would go about playing Age of empires.

Solve : Command line games?

Answer»

I am looking for a program that will let you make games that work through a command line interface. (A CLI game)
I have searched Google, and have found nothing.

You mean in the olden time when we use to play game in dos mode or window mode.
Well java (not javascript) will probaly let you do it but is best to use Visual Basic C++ to build them and the file probably will be .exe

The EASY way to make a good graphical game is Flash using Action Script

Yes, the "Olden Time" games.
the only problem is I don't know Java, or C++.Have you TRIED ASCII??

Games like Angband and their variants use it, and my personal favorite, ZangbandTK, google it up!Umoria! That gme is killer for a Command line game. Just google Umoria and you should find stuff relateing to MacMoria(Mac version), Umoria,(Unix version), PC Umoria(Windows version). The story is BASED on the Lord of the RINGS trilogy where you explore the dungons of Moria in search of the Balrog. It uses a D&D style kind of play except that the COMPUTER caculates everything for you as well as take care of monsters. It's a lot of fun, aslo if you cant find it anywhere I might have a copy of it lieing around somewhere. As well as the souce code. Its open source so there are alot of ports. You can download it here at http://jackpkmn.tripod.com/moria.htm. I have scaned it for viruses and checked the arcive for spyware. If you dont trust it then dont download it. Otherwise have fun playing Moria. You can also see the Wikipedia information about Moria here at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umoria.I will have to go download and see, as soon as I get to a place where I can download and run it.It will run under windows or true true dos.

Solve : Older games (8-bit color) and the Explorer issue?

Answer»

I think we've had a few posts about this over time. Many Older games, like Age of Empires, Command & Conquer, etc. use a 8-BIT INDEXED palette for their graphics. Thing is, with Vista and WINDOWS 7, those palettes can't be fully realized, which makes very odd artifacts on-screen. Age of Empires II, for example, features purple oceans.

The most common fix is to use a batch file to kill explorer.exe. This is because for some reason explorer.exe refuses to let go of certain palette entries, meaning that they stick around when the game wants other colours at that palette index. By killing it, that issue is fixed.

Why am I posting this? Well, turns out there is another solution to this issue, which is ALMOST completely unexpected.

Upgrade to Windows 8- Windows 8 Fixes this bug in Windows Explorer, or at least has a working resolution or workaround, because all the games that required me to TERMINATE explorer before now work as-is on Windows 8. So much for newer versions of windows breaking older software and games.Oh yeah? Do 16 bit applications run on 8, or has that been broken?Windows 8 has 16-bit Application support as a separate feature, but only in the 32-bit version.

Note that 16-bit Windows and DOS Applications do not run on any 64-bit version of windows anyway, and 16-bit applications are now old enough to be considered adults (~18 years, based on when Windows 95 was released and this 32-bit support became the vogue).I don't really understand why 16 bit programs won't run on 64 bit versions. Well, I understand why, but I don't understand why an emulator isn't included as it is for 32 bit or DOS programs is.

There's something (um...an emulator) Microsoft has called "Windows XP mode" for 64 bit Win 7, but of course it's only allowed to install on the fanciest version of Win 7 64 bit, of which there are apparently several.

There's something (um...an emulator) Microsoft has called "Windows XP mode" for 64 bit Win 7, but of course it's only allowed to install on the fanciest version of Win 7 64 bit, of which there are apparently several.

I know it's eccentric to want to run a 16 bit program on Win 7, but I managed to run into that problem.

"XP mode" is a package. It is a combination of the latest version of Microsoft Virtual PC and a free licensed virtual machine image of 32 bit XP Professional SP3 which is only available for download for validly licensed users of three levels of Windows 7, Professional, Ultimate and Enterprise. Only the Starter and Home cheaper versions are excluded.

However, Microsoft Virtual PC itself runs on Windows 7 Home and is free for anyone to download, and they can use a validly licensed XP install disk to get the equivalent setup.

It's not eccentric to want to run 16 bit programs, just unusual.

32-bit Windows had a 16-bit layer that ran 16-bit programs within a separate process (wowexec), to emulate their earlier environment. It operates by thunking 16-bit calls to their 32-bit equivalents. A 32-bit variant for x64 would require thunking 32-bit calls to 64-bit calls, which is no longer possible because the x64 address space is too large.

Even assuming it was possible, the 32-bit WoW program would be utilized to run the 16-bit WoW program to run 16-bit programs. It's likely the feature was axed simply because it wasn't worth the predicted support cost. It's probably because windows 8 uses hardware accelerated graphics for its GUI instead of the GDI or whatever.

Might also be the metro interface. Does it happen if you disable metro? Quote from: Linux711 on March 24, 2013, 05:03:44 AM

Vista and 7 use Hardware accelleration on the desktop. The reason it works now is because they fixed a bug where explorer was realizing an 8-bit palette for some reason.

Solve : Minecraft server decisions?

Answer»

Considering making an older pentium 4ht computer with a gig and a half of RAM a dedicated minecraft server? My first decision is what is should I use.
Windows server 2003 or An open source os.
I was thinking Ubuntu server. My major concern is ram usage as I have not used server 2003 and am not framilular with many Linux server commands besides working with files and the package manager. For minecraft server, you dont need to use a server os. I have friends running it on old systems with Windows XP. Also its not a memory intensive application to run as just a server. 1GB is plenty, and 1.5GB is more than plenty.

The hardware specs of my one friends minecraft server is 1.5Ghz Pentium 4 with 1GB RAM running Windows XP Home. He added firewall exception and port forwarding on his router so other friends can connect to his minecraft server.

* The one advantage to more RAM such as the 1.5GB that you will have in yours is that I believe that the memory usage increases with each handle aka logged in user. My friend has less than 5 people connecting to it at any one TIME and no problems on P4 1.5Ghz and 1GB RAM and old 20GB IDE HDMy upload speed is like .7 mb/s will this be suitable for a minecraft server? Quote from: TheWaffle on March 25, 2013, 06:15:42 PM

My upload speed is like .7 mb/s will this be suitable for a minecraft server?

Depends on the number of players. Chunks are around 96K each (128*16*16*3 bytes). The server sends the 81 chunks around a player, constantly loading chunks would then cause a load of around 194KB/s (if we assume smoothing over a delayed TIMEFRAME) per player, or around 1.5mbps.

However sending new chunks to players will only occur when they Join the game or move about. If we assume that all the players have already loaded where they are and move in one direction at walking speed, which is around 4.3 M/s, then the game will send them 9 chunks every 16 meters, which is about every 3.7 seconds. those 9 chunks are 96K uncompressed, but the server protocol uses gzip, which typically takes it to around 50K, so we can go with a total size for those 9 chunks of around 450K, meaning the data rate for a walking explorer would be around 121KB/s, or around 973kbps per player.

basically we have three scenarios:

No player is downloading new chunks. The player needs chunk update and other INFORMATION from the server. This is generally around 8KB of packets every 2 or 3 seconds (not always, but in general). so we can figure a base rate of around 64 kbps.

Next we have the above explorer case. People are GOING to explore and as a result they will need to be send new chunks from the server. add 973kbps per player. Note this isn't required, of course; chunks will just load slower if the data rate is too low.

The you have the case where players are trying to download all the chunks in their radius, which is a whopping 96K*81 or around 7.8mbps per player.

On a 0.7k connection, a Minecraft server will work, but it will not have an easy time keeping up with more than 2 or 3 players, I'm guessing. I know I had trouble with a 1mbps connection and 3 players when I was testing a bukkit plugin.

Solve : android emulators?

Answer»

I'd like to play some of the OLD SNES etc. games on my phone.  I got an emulator from the Google PlayStore but I see I NEED to get the games somewhere. Any advice?  Thanks!I have yet to find any legal ones available for download. The only games playable through computer  that are Nintendo that I have seen are the ones which you pay a subscription FEE to play while connected to the internet and this way Nintendo is getting paid for use of the games though this game service. Nintendo still owns the rights to these ROM's, and the only ones out there that I have seen are ROM RIPPED, although I did find a Super Mario Brothers almost 10 years ago that was very much like the ORIGINAL for NES that was written from scratch mimic'ing Nintendo's original game, but yet also had its differences in maps, sounds, textures, and controls. So I PLAYED this game for a short while since it wasnt an illegal ROM RIP but someones mimic creation of the original. Probably the only thing illegal with this mimic'ed game is that they used the Mario Name which Nintendo owns the rights to. They probably should have named it differently.

Solve : Xbox Help Needed?

Answer»

Hello, so recently I bought a VIRGIN HD box. I currently had my xbox hooked up to my monitor which has 2 HD PORTS. My xbox was working fine at this time. I then plugged my virgin box into the spare HD slot on my monitor and the virgin box is working fine. The problem I am having is that the xbox gameplay looks BLURRY, and pixelated. I am not sure why this is happening but I have checked to see if the xbox is still in 1080p and it is, I turned the monitor off and on, I unplugged the cables and switched slots, I unplugged the virgin box and NONE of this worked. Also, From what I can see there are no settings that effect resoloution on the monitor itself.
My monitor is a Philips IPS Brilliance HD monitor.
Help will be appreciated. One thing comes to mind = is there an 'auto' button on the monitor? Might want to give that button a press. Quote from: Carbon Dudeoxide on March 31, 2013, 10:06:23 PM

There is an auto button but it has been shaded out so I am unable to press it.That's strange....

Try adjusting the resolution down on the Xbox. Set output to 720P and see if it looks any better. Quote from: Carbon Dudeoxide on April 01, 2013, 09:28:08 AM

Hardware is definately powerful enough, have you verified you have latest drivers, especially the video card driver? Also how are your temperatures? If you have something running too hot such as CPU or GPU it might be the cause? I use speedfan for monitoring my temps. It has a graphing function to where you can select CPU, CPU Core, GPU, Hard Drive(s), etc and graph out the temps as you are running games and then minimize the game or end the game back to desktop and look to see where your temps were when the game was running. It only takes like 2 or 3 seconds for temps to drop by over 10 degrees, so it works best for monitoring temps during gameplay and then looking back at where it peaked or leveled off at during gameplay.

Solve : Dayz standalone Spec?

Answer»

Im just wondering would any one here KNOW the specs for Dayz Standalone,
i think they would be the same as dayz (mod) that runs from arma 2
but i have read on  some FORUMS that they would be the same specs as Arma 3 due to running off the arma 3 engin DAY Z standalone is not released yet, and there are no official hardware requirements AVAILABLE.  The engine is a modified ARMA II engine, with some code from the ARMA III engine.  I would expect the requirements to be in between the two, although this is nothing more than a guess as the game is not released and I'm not overly familiar with the ARMA games or their engines/performance.

Solve : Dos games in dosbox and windows 95?

Answer»

Greetings CH!

A few weeks ago i was digging around and found my old pentium 1 machine. Man Those where the good days! Where windows 95 was cool and the internet was just slowly unraveling. Anyways. i booted her up and after sitting since 2004 it fired up like new running windows 95B! I found many Dos games i once played as a child and spent all day playing them.

I carry around a Laptop (2007 white macbook) that i would LOVE to run these games on. I have Dosbox installed version 0.74 that im currently playing them on. However it would be great if i could get windows 95 instead of DOS. Not that i dont like dos i just loved the win 95 interface. Anyways i found many youtube videos on this but i cant seem to follow any of them to see how to install win 95 on dosbox. I have the Original floppy Boot disks and Cd-Rom already in an .IMG file on my desktop. However reading from this Article it says to make a virtual Hard drive. I have no clue and cant figure out how to acomplish that in DosBox. Would really appreciate if someone can lead me through on how to get win95 running on Dosbox so i can run all my classic games.

Doom, Doom 2, Titanic Adventure of of time, Gta 1, screamer, lemings, the Jazz the jackrabbit series. etc.

Any help is very MUCH appreciated. ThanksEveryone I know who has a Mac and games on games that havent been ported for Mac are using Boot Camp or Parallels. This might allow you to play the old games, as well as Windows 95.

I installed my old copy of Windows 95 to a virtual machine under Virtual PC 2007 which is free for PC's, but its definately not for gaming! It doesnt have the graphics rendering POWER in this virtual environment. The most complex game for it under Virtual PC 2007 environment which runs ok is Solitare or Minesweeper. Anything ELSE will crash, refuse to execute due to inadequate hardware specs detected by software that tests pre execution of game, or you get a black SCREEN and sound with no video. With VMWare, Windows 95 can run Doom95 OK. I actually don't know of many games that were written specifically for Windows 95. Seems games were written for DOS and then jumped to 98 after DirectX became good enough to use. Seems ridiculous to use Windows 95 for DOS gaming anyway, at least in a virtual Environment. Then you have TWO layers of emulation- Your Emulator emulating a PC, and Windows 95 somewhat emulating DOS, in addition to all the "fun" of getting both configured. DaveLembke
I have bootcamp currently running on my macbook and it runs windows XP. I should have written earlier that im not specific to OS versions as long as i can find out how to install win 95 on dosbox i know its possible. Just can't find an accurate way.

Even if i tried installing win 95 on bootcamp it wouldn't WORK well. For win95 if my memory suits me well wont run on anything that has more then was it 512mb Ram? My system has 4gb DDr 2 and a core 2 duo from intel. Even if i patched it up to work drivers would be tricky aswell.

You are correct, most games then where made for DOs, however after using win 95 for just a little over a decade as my main system, i've noticed it handles all DOs games perfectly. Its version of DOs is the closest to the 6.22 ver that ran with win 3.1.

im just tired of using Dos commands and i Grew up with win95 so i wanted to get back to it again. but im obviously not going to drag my old thinkpad around again. LOL its like 10-15 pounds!

now i was looking at this web page.. Maybe you guys can lead me through it. I'm lost at steps 2 and 3. Im able to to basic Dos commands such as /cd cls dir and such but here where it says i must make my own hard disk image im a little lost. Quote

Note: Windows 95 on DOSBox is just a toy. It’s not recommended for any serious work. Those who need Windows 95 for some productive purpose, or even for running games, are most likely better off using something like Virtualbox or Qemu.

Solve : CS:GO?

Answer»

Has anyone Played CS:GO on Linux, I am thinking more of using Fedora. Any known issues?Issues I know of that are for about 99% of the games out there is that there is no DirectX for Linux, so your stuck using OpenGL which creates a serious performance hit to gameplay framerate etc as well as bugs show up.

I ran World of Warcraft through Linux MINT 13 using WINE 1.4 and got it to run, but my frame rates were down in the dirt with 9 to 15 frames per second as well as shader bugs and texture layers in the game would appear/disappear so changing camera angle for example while standing in the auction house in Stormwind a city on the game would cause everyone to lose their skin and be a black void with hair and clothing on. The funny thing though is that Night Elves with the glowing EYES showed as black voids with glowing eyes. This same computer that I tested for gaming with Linux, I had another hard drive already set up for it running Windows XP. For comparison purposes, I booted Windows XP SP3 and launched World of Warcraft and had good 40 to 60 frames per second because I had DirectX to use the full potential of the video card, as well as no bugs.

Until someone makes an open source DirectX module/addon for Linux, its crippled for 99% of the games that are out there

If I were you, I'd give it a try, build up a system that has plenty of hardware resources to play the game if it were Windows, and instead install your choice of Distro, and then install Wine, and then try the game on Linux and report back with your findings. You may want to dual-boot to be able to test same as I did between Windows and Linux for the same game. When doing this you would want to install Windows to a fraction of the hard drives size such as you have a 160GB HDD and you allocate 80GB to Windows NTFS partition and then leave the other 80GB free and unpartitioned. Then install Linux and choice to install Linux to this free non partitioned 80GB space and have it use a bootloader like grub etc to give choice on boot for Windows or Whatever distro of Linux you install.

*One thing that I did have to do for World of Warcraft that you would also likely have to do with CS:GO is copy the entire contents of the game to an external hard drive, and then import it to the Linux systems partition, then set up the EXE that is associated with the game to WINE so that it runs the game within WINE emu environment. I have yet to find sold in store CD/DVD games that will allow for you to install them to Linux the same as you would a windows computer. And if the games have registry entries the games will likely be broken as well on the linux side. World of Warcraft does not have any Windows Registry HOOKS to it like many other games that like to anchor to it with antipiracy features etc. With WoW the antipiracy feature is as simple as... you dont pay us your monthly membership ..... we dont allow for your credentials to play the game! STAND alone games are more prone to registry hooks to anchor that game to that system so that one friend cant copy the folder contents to another friends computer and run it etc.Did some research and it seems as though some people got it to play through WINE, but not sure of how well. The good thing is that the Steam Client is working to port games for Linux, so maybe they will port this one. Although if ported not sure if there would be a performance hit since there is no DirectX.I am GOING install Fedora and SEE how it works. Playing cs was one main reason why I didn't full set my HDD to Linux and fully uninstall windoze.

Solve : Stella Atari Emulator - Is this really legal to use, has the ROMs been abandoned?

Answer»

Looking up information on an old Atari2600 game that I use to play way back when I was like 8 years old, I came across an open source atari2600 EMULATOR which also supplies links externally to ROM files.

Does anyone know the legalities of this. Are the ROM files officially abandonware since the oldest game in the rom directory online is copyright 1977 and the NEWEST appears to be 1994 which I didnt think any over the shelf games were created for Atari2600 after 1987, so the 1994 dated ROM file might be one that someone created to work on Atari2600, but of which it was never sold in stores.

Back in the late 1980s early 1990s I use to get mailed catalogs of available software for Atari2600, C64, Amiga, Intellivision, Collecovision, Sega Master System, and other obsolete or soon to be obsolete game systems that stores no longer allocated shelf space for.

The newest title I remember being California games with a date on the cartridge of 1987, which was released when Atari2600 games were being sold at extreme discounts to make room for NES games with NES graphics and gameplay being way above and beyond the Atari graphics, sounds, and gameplay complexity. I remember going into Toys R Us around 1988 and going in with $20 and buying Atari games in packages that were marked as clearance for $1 to $5 a title. Some of the games for $1 were worth it, while Laser Blast was a huge waste of $1 with shooting 3 targets from a UFO without getting shot down and then the next level is the same as the first, while other titles like Megamania, Atlantis, Pitfall II, or Millipede were well worth the money at the time for titles that were fun.

I am tempted to download this emulator and roms, but figured I'd check on the legalities before doing so.

I would assume that Atari is not getting cheated in a massive ROM release since there is no money to really be made on this anymore with the money for these titles DRYING up pretty much before 1990, and only money being made today is with collectors selling systems and games on ebay used which also does not benefit Atari ( which doesnt even exist under its original identity today ) but I dont like to assume when it comes to legalities and software.

AtariAge website appears to be the location of the ROMs for download btw.As a rule of thumb, if the copyright holder makes mo effort to enforce the copyright, you will not be arrested for breaking the law.
Many experts say  copyrights should have a time limit. At one time a 17 year limit was thought to be the law. However, in many regions this eds not apply.

In short, the copyright holder should go after the web site, not then individuals who download the materiel.

Of course, if you have legal possession of the ROM, you  can do anything for your own enjoyment.

Owning and distributing MAME itself is legal in most countries, as it is merely an emulator. Companies such as Sony have attempted in court to prevent emulators from being sold, but they have been ultimately unsuccessful.[14] MAME itself has thus far not been the subject of any court cases.
However, most arcade games are still covered by copyright. While it is arguably legal to transfer the data contained in ROM chips from a board you own to a personal computer, both downloading from and distributing ROMs on the Internet without permission from copyright holders is a violation of copyright laws.

"Abandonware" doesn't even exist and is not an official classification. It's just a term made up by people to avoid the fact they are INFRINGING a copyright.

It being hard to obtain a old piece of software through purchase or other means does not magically mean it's not copyright infringement to download it. However, It's about as likely that you would BECOME the defendant in a court case on the matter as it is for you to be pursued by Intel for overclocking your own processor.

Solve : Project64 awkward Graphics Display?

Answer»

Here are my specs:  Pentium 4 Processor, 1.5 GB RAM, Vista Business, 256 MB onboard video memory

Has anyone else ever had this problem with Legend of Zelda, "Ocarina of Time"??

Here is a snap shot of my problem...As you can see it just looks kind of strange, I'm not even sure how to describe it. IF you focus on the center of the snap shot you'll notice triangular-like shapes moving outward, to the left and to the right.

One time, I shrunk the "C" partition using "Disk Management" in Windows, and the graphics problem went away.  I could never figure out why that helped the problem, but it seemed to help.  However, it doesn't work anymore.

Most likely I need a better video card but I was wondering if there are any other ideas as to why this is happening.  Are there any Operating System adjustments I can make that might fix the display?

What chipset is your on-board graphics card using? ATI? Nvidia? Intel? Other? It's using Intel 82945G Express Chipset Family...              I believe the DRIVER is the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver

I forgot to mention.........I recently had Windows 7 Beta installed on this computer instead of Vista.  After installing Windows 7, I installed Project 64 and tested out Zelda to see if this graphics problem is any better and it WAS better.   The graphics on some other games were improved as well.   I don't know how this info. might be helpful, but I'm sure every little bit helps.

I put Vista back on the computer because Win7 Beta is going Obsolete beginning of August, and I'm trying to build a network in my home.  I simply don't want to put in the time to configure Win7 when I'll have to uninstall it so soon...  Not to mention that it's still in Beta..What video plugin are you using? (Options->Settings Menu)

Does this only occur while the game is on pause?

I have no issues on my laptop via my Intel Graphics, with either of Jabo's Direct3d Plugins.lol  good question...........My apologies...

I'll break the problem down a little bit better...

When I use the Jabo 3D61.5.2 graphics plug-in, I have the graphics problem that I described........

When I use the Jabo 3D81.6 plug-in, the graphics problem is corrected, but when I go to full screen, the sound is slowed in the opening menu (when selecting what saved game you want to continue)

So I guess the problem really is, how do I get the sound to work better in the opening menu............( the menu that is present when selecting which game to continue)   when I'm in FULL screen...................I could play in default screen but that's no fun.... Ahhh... that should be a pretty easy fix...

Options->Configure graphics plugin-

reduce the "full screen resolution" to a lower value- I have mine set to 800x600, 32-bit, but really any selection is beyond the capabilities of a actual N64 so your still not really "losing" anything, so to speak.hey thanks...

the 800 X 600 works fine........The 1024 X 576 works good too...............it all averages out I suppose...     At any RATE, it's better than the default screen...

Would a better graphics card improve the resolution options?not necessarily, but given your using a INTEGRATED graphics card it will almost assuredly improve performance (and thus allow you to run higher resolutions without lowering the framerate)any graphics card with dedicated memory would be an upgrade when you're trying to play video games on your computer.  I have project 64 and I have flat items when I play Super Smash Bros. Can anyone help?

Use one of the built in Graphics Plugins.

Assuming of course you mean the sprites are flat but don't all point at the screen. if your problem is that everything is a "flat" sprite, well, that can't be fixed SINCE it's part of the game.

Solve : d3derr?

Hi

We’ve bought the program IGI 2 from Codemasters. When we start the program the following error message appears:

Fatal error:

Couldn’t get device caps

DirectX error message: D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE
File: \project\igi2\B\2\PC\pc_direct3d.c line: 2634

We RUN Windows XP.

Can anybody tell me what to do? I’ve tried to reinstall the version directX 8.1 (as supplied with the game CD), tried downloading version 9 from microsoft , but this didn’t help either.

Thanks!

sajjadDid you download the DirectX runtime update, or the full package?  If you did the smaller update, I would go ahead and grab the full package, which you can find here - http://www.filehippo.com/download_directx/ - it's a large download, 95MB, because it includes all the older files and updates.
If that doesn't help, I would next update your GRAPHICS driver.  You can check what graphics card you have by right clicking on the desktop, clicking screen resolution, then advanced, and under "adapter TYPE" will be your graphics card or at least series.  If you post what you have, we can give you a LINK to the latest drivers so you can update or reinstall them.

Solve : Blizzard Macro & Memory Sniffers?

Answer»

World of Warcraft

Last night it was getting late and the guild that I am in wanted to run a few more runs, but needed 3 players of the same guild grouped to get the achievements. I TOLD the 2 others that I will leave my character logged on and as long as they didnt break group with me that they can run the lower level stuff with their 90s and get the guild achievements.

I created a quick macro that was performed with jitbit to move the  character with arrow keys for about a second and stop. I then compiled this macro and then placed it in a folder with a batch file with a goto loop that started the macro once every 55 seconds or so ( pretty much used a ping 127.0.0.1 -n 55  delay before the start of the macro.

I placed my character in an area where people wouldnt see a character acting oddly, and started the batch and went to sleep.

I woke up 8 hrs later and my character was still on and facing a different part of the wall in the room that I placed the character in and I ended the batch file to kill this macro move process to keep connected and not get disconnected for being AFK ( away from keyboard ) too long.

The good thing is that Blizzard didnt detect this as for I have heard of but havent seen people getting banned for using macros to automate characters.

While I am not using macros to have my character play by itself to any direct benefit to not having to grind, i think it might still be a violation that can get me banned.

I have heard all sorts of ways that they can detect and ban you from the servers looking for patterns in the game play to detect if the moves are scripted as well as the World of Warcraft game client launching RAM sniffers that look for cheats and macros.

Anyone have any info on just how smart this detection is?

I hid my character from view of others who would report me as a bot if they saw movements on timed intervals.

But my biggest concern that I may not be able to hide from view is the RAM sniffers finding the macro running outside of the memory address that the game is operating in on my system. From what I have heard, the agreement of "the EULA allows Blizzard to scan all memory of the system running the game client to detect cheats that are running outside of the block of memory that the game is operating in." Initially I thought they were just sniffing for changes within the memory block that the game resides in for trying to sniff out memory injection routines to cheat by making the game client act godlike and not follow the RULES that others abide to, but it sounds like they may search all memory on the system.

I was happy to wake up to my computer still running wow and moving about once every 55 seconds to stay logged on, but not getting caught this time doesnt necessarily mean that it went without detection and I wont get banned next time I try this to be able to assist the guild and sleep at the same time.

Not sure of any tools to detect the memory sniffers and watch what they are up to, such as are they only watching the memory that the game client is running in, or all system memory for bot/macro and cheat instructions?

unless you GIVE it administrator permissions I don't think programs running under the user account are able to READ process memory outside their own.

Unless they install a driver, I suppose/.hmm   Interesting...

Didnt know that user privileges can limit memory addressing (sniffing access). I figured the security built into windows mainly just write protected sections of windows for file and memory management. Whereas elevated privileges are needed to install stuff etc, and that if there was a program that was able to address RAM and perform a memory sniff it was free to do so without Windows Security blocking it, as for I would think that it would be able to read memory but not alter memory if the memory is protected from injection which I would believe it should be otherwise its prime exploit territory.

Although its a BAD habit, I am the only user of my computer and run as admin 99.9% of the time, with exception to a user acct with minimal privileges when on the web in the dangerous nether outside of the normal safe websites such as mods and cheats for games that some websites in the past try to hijack the browser or download junk that wasnt requested.

Will run WoW from user account with minimal priveleges when I am going to use the macro to keep myself logged on for other users/guild benefit.

Solve : Preloaded MSN Games?

Answer» Why is it that some of these game work and others won't? I can't even get them to play in IE.

I love the game TEXT Twist and while I USED to be able to play it on MSN for some reason I can't now. I can't even get it to load. MSN offers all kinds of close Port advice and crap but to someone who isn't a comp geek, it's Latin.

I wonder if it's SOMETHING about the site becauee I found a game of TT in another site, however, I don't like it as it allows any and all words. It's unruly. So does anyone have a way to get this game to work. Oh, when I TRY it in Internet Explorer a msg comes in asking to allow an ADD-ON should I click yes. I ASK becauseWhen I first went to IE to play TT I was able to, but then the msg about the ADD-ON came in and I clcked Allo, after that I wasn't able to load Text Twist. In fact I can't load any MSN games in IE. I have version 8 of IE.

My funniest L4d moment was when i was the only survivor left on versus in No Mercy and I made it to the safe ROOM. Mind you there was a full infected team and a tank and they still couldn't get me. That was my coolest moments. Post yours.I think mine would be the time I set up near a wall in the construction area of the  no mercy building as a boomer. The survivors came by, stared at me for 10 seconds then blew me up blasting all of them over the building. They were left hanging while I danced around. When I encountered 2 Tank. Not really my coolest but my most funnyest I was the tank on Dead Rain and i turned around the corner and saw a car so i hit the car and it went flying past the survivors i hit it again and it LANDED in a tree and i couldn't get it down

I have a picture of this on my STEAM account: Bromthemanmy best moment was when me and a friend was messing around on a lan server in l4d, USING the console to no clip and spawn some infected, so we decided to spawn in 50 witches and i got bored and threw a petrol BOMB down, the sound alone was terrifying, ( it cashed both the pc due to t hem been low spec office pcs) but it was worth it

Solve : Can these specs run Battlefield 3 on MAX??

Answer»

How much FPS would I get with these on MAX?
GPU: Asus GTX660 2GB
CPU: CORE 2 Quad Q6600 2,4GHz
RAM: 6GB DDR3 RAM.What resolution will you be playing at?  Unless it's fairly low I'm going to go with a no, the GTX 660 is fairly capable but the Q6600 will definitely hold you back.  In smaller, less populated maps it should be OK, but when you get onto more open maps with, say, 64 players and a lot going on, it'll struggle and you'll need to back off the graphics options to keep it playing smoothly.Should I overclock my CPU to like 3.0?It would help a little, if you are confident you can do so without overheating or causing stability problems, and that your CPU can do it, but it won't make it perfect, because at the end of the day we are talking about a CPU that's over 6 years old.Would you recommend this?
Intel Core i3-3240 Processor (3M Cache, 3.40 GHz)
My MoBo doesn't support it so I'm gonn have to get a cheap one that supports that too. Suggestions?Realistically you would be better off with at least a quad core, rather than a dual core with hyperthreading.  The i5 4430 would be an entry level quad, 4670 would be ideal and would last a long time in terms of handling newer games.  The cheapest board I'd recommend would be the Gigabyte Z87X-D3H or Asus Z87-A.  Cheaper boards are available but either from budget brands (Asrock, MSI, ECS etc, which typically either won't last as long or have cut down features or odd bugs) or they don't provide the same features which make it a good basis for a system.  To me, there's little point buying a bargain basement board because you'll only need to upgrade it sooner. Quote from: Calum on August 23, 2013, 04:43:28 AM

What resolution will you be playing at?

This is your main decision factor at this point.
1280x720? you would get away with it.
1920x1080? not a chance.

With the specs I have (The rough AMD equivalent VIDEO card as yours; in the sidebar) I push Ultra at 1920x1080, however many online players will tell you that the 'high' setting is best for your K/D ratio. Ultra adds extra smoke, motion blur and a few shadow eye goodies but overall leaves you screaming "How on earth did you see me through all that smoke?" SIMPLE answer is his machine is not rendering the smoke, thus, smoking you.

Solve : Unreal Tournament 99 - Running too fast on multicore CPU - CPU Affinity Question?

Answer»

So I launched Unreal Tournament 99 the other night for the first time in about 4 years, and for the first time on Windows 7 OS, and found some interesting issues.

- First issue was that the sound was choppy, but that was fixed by running the built in configuration program.

- Second issue is that my ASUS ATI Radeon HD5450 has some strange issues going on with shading on some textures appearing as poor resolution, while the majority of the game content is sharp resolution and correct appearance. On an added map/mod called "Massive Bedrooms - Deathmatch" which I installed to this game years ago, the walls of the home that you are in appear ... in what can only be described as lower resolution than they should be, meanwhile the bed looks correct that is as tall as a office building given the scale of what is like Toy STORY - Army Men scale that you run around in and kill other players and/or bots in. *I haven't found a fix for this yet, but the fix may be to run this game on an older computer in which the GPU is not so futuristic that the game doesnt play well. It may be that my video card has lesser legacy graphics support than I expected. I have a few computers to try this on to see if I can point the finger at the Radeon HD5450 as being the issue for the strange graphics minor issue. This issue doesnt affect playability, but it is an eye sore since I know that its wrong. But when trying to stay alive in the game the distraction of survival takes my mind off of the grainy low res wall shading issue.

- Third issue was that the game was running at about 2x the speed that it normally runs. (* I found a solution on Google to fixing/band-aid'ing this problem and it suggests that the game UT99 was designed around single-core CPU's (which makes sense given the time period it was released... in November 1999) and the band-aid is to SET the Affinity to only a Single Core of a Multicore CPU system using task manager to make this Affinity preference. )

* So I have the game running correctly if I launch the game and then hit my windows key to bring the desktop back up, and then go to task manager and then specify Unreal Tournament 99 to only use "Core 0" of The Athlon X2 4450B 2.3Ghz and the game plays without any execution speed issues.

Question is... is there a way to set the Affinity to always be Core 0 -or- do I have to manually specify this every time I execute this game on a multicore system of mine?  ... (OS is Windows 7 Home Premium)
On an article on Toms Hardware there is some chat about an EXE WRAPPER that could be used as well as someone else stating it cant be done. This article is from 2007 and so maybe times have changed and maybe there is a good way to do this or tool that has been created since the 6 years ago that this article was posted that is a solution. There are also many links here for suggested tools to try, but I figured I'd post this here for feedback if anyone had any suggested tools that are known to be good vs me downloading whatever links may still be active after 6 years and test trial and error questionable programs on my system which could come with problems.

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/229129-28-affinity-prior-launch
* I think I may have a solution... I didnt read the full Toms Hardware article until after posting my post and then found this:

For Windows 7:

Quote

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start "" /affinity 3 "C:\Program Files\SpacialAudio\SAMBC\SAMBC.exe"

I've added the quotes for clarity. I'm not sure if it likes spaces in paths. I've added the first set of quotes because Start will annoyingly use the first set of quoted text as the title.

The affinity should be a single hexadecimal number, not a list of CPU numbers:
1 = use CPU 0
2 = use CPU 1
3 = use CPU 1 and 0
4 = use CPU 2
...
F = use CPU 3, 2, 1 and 0

So mine will look like this:

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start "" /affinity 1 "C:\Program Files\UnrealTournament99\Unreal.exe"

** Will have to verify that the path is correct. It may be just UnrealTournament vs with 99 in folder path and I have to verify the exe name as well. Just wanted to state this in case anyone else ever comes across this for UT99 and so they should verify the correct path. Going to try this tonight, hopefully it works!
UT99 is the first Unreal Tournament, correct?

If so, I don't need to change any settings to get it to work. (I just double-checked and it still works fine, played a short deathmatch)

(With machine in my specs).

I have no idea if I did or not but I may have extra patches also.

Yes UT99 is the first of the UT series, and my favorite among them.

I have the GOTY (Game of the Year) edition and haven't patched it at all. Its just a fresh install from original CD and then additional maps/mods added.

Digging further I found this info:

If you have an AMD multi-core processor, install the AMD Dual-Core Optimizer (5th down). This is needed because of a bug with some AMD processors which means that the timers on the CPU cores aren't synchronised with each other.

As found here: http://forums.beyondunreal.com/showthread.php?t=182599

And the CPU you are running is Intel Core 2 Quad and mine is AMD Athlon X2 4450B  2.3Ghz  1M Cache shared among 2 cores which may have this minor bug.

*Also on this same linked site above I found this:

On my Athlon X2 it only runs perfectly if I both use OpenGL with FrameRateLimit=60, and set the game's CPU affinity to only one CPU.

(dated 4/5/2009)

So I should probably use OpenGL and set the frame Rate Limit to 60 which I havent tried yet, and the ATI Radeon HD5450 with 512MB GPU memory may be way over 60 frames. There is info here suggesting that the game becomes unstable with high frame rates.

200 is fine for game speed itself, but textures animate wrongly and you don't see water colour under water. 100 works fine. So I guess you can trial and error from 200 to 100 and see what's optimal for you.

This sure sounds like the texture oddity that I have noticed, so I will force the frame rate to 60 which is plenty of fps and see if it cures the textures issue.Definitely worth using the built in frame rate limiter, I found this fixed it running at too fast a speed on the systems I've tried it on (Turion X6, Q6600, E8200, i7 950, and dual Opteron HEX cores, so a mix of AMD and Intel).  Other than that, I don't recall having to play around with much at all under Windows 7 X64, againa cross a variety of cards (AMD 6450, Nvidia 8800GT, GTX280, GTX 460, GTX 470).
60fps limit should be all you need, I don't recall having to change CPU affinity at all.

Solve : Framerate drop with controller?

Answer»

Hi,
I have started having this problem over the PAST few days. I have a fairly decent computer (details below) and have picked up Fallout: New Vegas again after a while.
I think it's worth mentioning that this is the only game I play that I use my XBOX 360 wireless controller and RF receiver. I think that CONSIDERING it's a PORT that it would play better with it - turns out I was right.
Anyway, as of late, the problem that I'm having is that every 4 minutes and 15 seconds the FPS drops from 60fps to 1 or 2. The way to make it snap out of it is to press any key on the keyboard and it almost instantly shoots back to 60.

I've checked that all of my energy saving setting are off. I've set the power plan to high performance and checked the advanced setting to make sure that the HDD doesn't sleep, and the screen saver is off.

My computer specifications are:
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
Display: 27" LG DM2780D
Processor: Intel i7 960 3.20GHz
RAM: 8GB 1600Mhz
GPU: 2x Asus GTX 560Ti
HDD: OS - 240GB SSD
Games - 2x 500GB in RAID0 array
3rd drive - 2TB HDD for scheduled backups

.. I think that's about it...

I have a feeling that there is a setting SOMEWHERE that makes the computer sleep unless there is mouse or keyboard activity and doesn't include controllers. But then it wouldn't explain why it only does it most of the time.

If anyone can shed some light on this, that'd be great.
Thanks. Have you checked in device manager, in the USB controller's properties there's usually an option to allow Windows to turn them off to save power - try unchecking that box.  Also, there's a similar setting in advanced power options that's worth checking.
Finally, have you tried the controller in a different port?  Specifically, a rear port rather than a front port, and a USB2 port instead of a USB3 port, but just another port really.Great idea. I'll try it out tomorrow when I get in from work. I'll get back to you.

Solve : call of duty black ops 2?

Answer»

MY SPEC:
CPU = Pentium DUAL Core E5800 3.20GHz
GFX = Intel G41 EXPRESS Chipset [1280 x 1024]
RAM = 3GB
HD = 500GB

PROBLEM:

When i start the game the VIDEO is displayed and then the menu comes and then, when i start the level the short movie is displayed and then a loading screen is displayed. Here the the loading screen stays for few minutes and then suddenly the game closes off and comes to my desktop with no error message.
What is the problem!!!!!Has the game ever worked on this PC?
You won't be able to play it properly with integrated graphics, whatever happens. But I have played Call of Duty Black ops 1 on this computerHas Black Ops 2 ever worked, though?
The GAMES use different engines, so the requirements are different.  Your system falls far below the minimum requirements unfortunately, and I would imagine there's a technology the engine requires (a certain revision of SM or DirectX) which your integrated chip doesn't support and hence the game crashes.
