Solve : Outlook and Plain Text Formatting?

Answer»

Hello

I have a strange PROBLEM with Outlook (2003) and Plain Text messages which I hope you can help me with.

I have a PHP file which automatically forwards a txt file to a given email address, however the formatting is lost when it arrives in my COPY of outlook. I've tried various difference copies PCs with the following results:-

PC 1 - Outlook 2003 (11.8217.8221) SP3 + Vista = Does not work
PC 2 - Outlook 2003 (11.8217.8221) SP3 + Vista = Works
PC 3 - Outlook 2003 (11.8217.8221) SP3 + Vista = Works
PC 4 - Outlook 2000 + XP = Does not work

If the email is sent to me via an email forwarding FILTER (e.g googlemail) it then arrives fine at my end.

Example - File as it leaves the server

Text Line 1 2 3.00
Text Line 2 1 3.45
Text Line 3 4 1.25 etc

Direct to my outlook I get :-

Text Line 1 2 3.00 Text Line 2 1 3.45 Text Line
3 4 1.25

Everybody else and via googlemail to me: -
Text Line 1 2 3.00
Text Line 2 1 3.45
Text Line 3 4 1.25

Any ideas what flag / setting I have wrong somewhere? What is the mail format set to on the machines?

Tools > Options > Mail Format

Some could be set to Plain and the others to Rich or HTMLAll PCs are set to HTML (I have tried setting it to plain text)

Forgot to add, on my PC (PC1) if I click reply the formatting reverts back to the correct formatting. Word is set up as the default email editor on all PCsSorry, I messed up. Check

Tools > options > preferences > Email Options and see if "read all standard mail in plain text"

The first one is for outgoing mail only, my badThanks for the suggestion, I tried it but without success. (Even after restarting Outlook)

Any other thoughts? I've only a few strands of hair left which I am hoping to keep )Im out of ideas. I run into strange quirks like that with Outlook all the time, which is why always try to talk people into THUNDERBIRD. I usually just shrug my shoulders and move on.

Solve : Deleting history in Office Communicator?

Answer»

I am using MS Office Communicator 2005 running on Windows XP SP2 in office. I was wondering if anyone knows how to erase the HISTORY in the Communicator ? I BELIEVE, even if you delete the history, it is going to be STORED in the deleted folder on the exchange server for the default time configured. But THATS alright, but how do I delete it in the first place from my PC ? .. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Solve : Easy to use Qemu package - x86 Emulation for Windows?

Answer»

If you were wondering where to LOOK or where to start
your x86 emulation expeirence, you clicked the right topic.

There are MANY great x86 emulators out there, and I have
tried alot of them. However, The one I found to be the cleanest,
and the SMALLEST, was Qemu. Why not start here?

I have compiled a package that is easy for people to use and
understand, but before you download, make SURE you read what
I am about to say- I have NOT included readme files.. so pay atten-
tion! When you extract Computer.rar, you get a folder named 'Com
puter'. In that folder you have an ARRAY of batch files to do the trick
(s) for you. There is a folder for all of your disk images; place them
in that folder. You should have: 1 Hardrive.img, 1 Floppy.img, and
1 CD-ROM.iso.

The few extra batch files are too obvious to explain, but I will
explain them right now. The two batch files with the "New." prefix
will create blank disk images.. (Floppy: 1440k, Hardrive: 500Mb).
The 'Hard.Floppy.bat' will boot your computer with drive A: of the
host computer.

IMGburn is a burning program. Their would be no REASON to use a program to physically give your friends the DVD case.

However, I will tell you this- IMGBurn will not copy DVDs as well as it copies CDs. You'll need to find ANOTHER program for the purpose (they do exist).

EDIT: are the CDs Video CDs or simply video files on a CD?What type of files are these movies..... (I wonder how they were obtained....)i do loan my own cd´s or dvd´s to my friends,,, i dont copy them...
and its video files on dvd or cd..
its avi files
THANKS everyone for helping!!!
ahh, AVI files, that might be why- they might not have the proper codec to show them!

I'm not very good with Codecs however, I just install a codec pack, but I wouldn't recommend it, since their filled with malware (in other words, how close are these friends )

Sorry, I thought you were trying to use IMGburn to duplicate commercial DVDs!its mostly video clips from my cellphone..

i have put all the video clips together and converted them to avi...

but i didnt know about ´´´codecs´´´and stuff like that...

is their any website that has a step by step for this? or info about this?

thanksIf possible, you could try re-encoding them to AVI.

What software did you use to convert the cellphone clips?

The thing is, the problem, realistically is at the viewers end- which is to say, your friends don't have the proper codecs.i converted my clips 3GP to avi with magicbit 3GP cell..
okey maybe i could convert the avi movie to mpeg or vcd...it might work?

but it make sense now with the codec thing...
does the software allow you to select options for the conversion? One option to look for would be the output codec. Try a few Microsoft branded ONES, or the Intel Indeo codecs.i only have the trial version of this magicball thats why it only can convert to avi
but i will for sure try the Microsoft programs its probably better!!!
thanks for your help appreciate it Quote

I was referring to Microsoft's Codecs, actually, since your friends are more likely to have them installed. Freeware conversion tools are hard to come by.

Solve : Freezing up or hanging up? Not sure what to call this problem!?

Answer»

I have an HP Pavillion computer, using Windows XP. On the front is a green power light, below that is an orange light that comes on when the computer is "thinking" (i'm sorry, i don't know how else to describe that). Anyway, if i happen to click the mouse when this orange light is on, my computer like freezes up, the tool bar disappears, the hourglass appears, and sometimes (not always) aol STOPS responding. Sometimes it lasts just a few seconds, other times it lasts long enough that i get irritated and try alt/ctrl/del and sign off then restart aol. This seems to be happening quite often lately. Any ideas? THANK you very much for any HELP!How much free space do you have on your hard drive?
Do you have any virus protection?I THINK i've got about 71% free space, and i have McAfee thru aol. I don't think i said previously that sometimes it starts doing this "thinking" thing for no apparent reason, when i do alt/ctrl/del and the task manager comes up, it will show only aol and not anything else running.Since you mentioned AOL three times does this only happen when AOL is running? If so have you tried to reinstall/update it?
I recently reinstalled aol, it was doing this both before and after the reinstall. And i don't know if it only happens with aol, i hadn't thought about trying to sign in to explorer and see if it happens again, but i will try that now, thanks for bringing that to my ATTENTION!

Solve : Microsoft Media Player 10 - Vista?

Answer»

I am using MICROSOFT Media Player (V 10?) on the Vista operating system. Yesterday I spent quite a few hours making a playlist. I was playing the list throughout the day. I later noticed that every song on the list that played resulted in a duplicate entry on the playlist? I manually went in and deleted all of the duplicates which was very time consuming. I have RUN exhaustive virus scans on the Media program files and the music library --- all CAME back negative for any viruses. Not sure if I am dealing with a software 'bug' or if I might have accidentally activated some kind of feature that ould cause played songs to duplicate on the playlist. Now I'm afraid to play this list as I do not want to have to manually remove the duplicates everyt time I USE the list.

Any insights would be most appreciated.

Celtic 1Are they downloaded songs, and do they play properly?

A very "popular" virus is disguised as an MP3 file, and when you play it, it redirects you to hxxp://freemp3player.com (or something like that), and gets you to download a "player" for MP3 files...KPAC:

Some are songs off CD's, some are downloaded songs (LimeWire). In this case, as far as I can remember, the songs on the list I compiled and played all played properly. I've run numerous virus scans against the music library and the MS Media Player program files and they all came back clean. If this is an undetected virus can you SUGGEST any way I can detect and delete it?

Thanks,

Celtic 1Quote from: Celtic 1 on September 25, 2008, 12:05:28 PM

some are downloaded songs (LimeWire)

Exactly where I found the virus I was talking about.

Virus scanners won't detect the songs as viruses, because they are not actually viruses... They just redirect the user to a site...

Solve : Keyboard Lag, in dire need of Mastah!?

Answer»

Hiho people of the COMPUTER Age

I be havin' some problems with me keyboard.

Whenever I hold down a key it "LAGS". It only registers the keypress for a sec or so then it FREEZES, until I let go of the button. This is the result of me holding down the button "a" for 10 seconds:
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

And if you'd be doing it I swear you'd be seing ALOT more of "a". It also stops the movement of my mouse.
This problem is here since I changed motherboard to "M3A-H/HDMI" from "M2N-MX SE".

I've reinstalled windows but without success.

Does anyone know what could be causing this issue? When walking in FPS games I don't experience the issue at all, it's only when typing.

It's horribly annoying I can assure you of.

Thanks in advance!
JonasWelcome Back, JonasD.

Try this. (Assuming this is Windows XP)

Go to Start --> Control Panel and click on Keyboard.
From there, change the REPEAT Rate slider and test it in that test box.

Solve : losing mouse arrow in Word?

Answer»

I am not sure what you mean by task list. I presume that is not the items in Scheduled Tasks. What about the items listed in the Start Menu. Do they take up memory? There are a lot of items there that could be removed without causing any problems.the task list is shown when you press Ctrl-Alt-Delete.

If you have the time, you could list them out as well, this could help identify programs that might be consuming a lot of resources, but aren't necessarily visible. The list is
Explorer
Taskbar Properties
Ymsgr_tray
Nbj
Qttask
Stimon
Systray
Vttmer
Lexpps
MusoemonThis problem has occurred again. I was editing this large .doc when the I pointer from the MOUSE disappeared. When I moved the mouse so the pointer was on the TOOL bars, the arrow did not appear but the position of the pointer was discernible by flickering. I was able to click on File then Exit to close Word. I was able to save the file by pressing ENTER to the question about saving. I am now able to RESUME by re-opening Word and LOADING the saved .doc. I closed Firefox so that Word was the only program operating to my knowledge.a few of those entries are extraneous-

my laptop has lower specs then your comp- I usually only run explorer, systray, and MDM

Qttask: QuickTime. No need to run that in the background. If there is an icon in the systemtray, try to use that to close it.
I have no idea what nbj, vttmer,or musoemon are really for, so I don't know how much they are consuming in terms of resources.

Solve : Microsoft Outlook 2003 (Home version)?

Answer»

I have been having an issue when closing the program down. After you press the x button in the corner to close the program down, it GETS to the desktop screen as it should and then has an error POP up. The message that pops up says the following:
"Microsoft Office Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience". It happens every single time it shuts down without fail. It does it on 3 seperate computers all with different hardware configurations and different CD installations and different SERIAL numbers for the product. We click to send the message to microsoft, but EVEN though we always get the the latest updates off the microsoft site, nothing seems to fix it ever. It only ever comes up with that message after the program is already closed.

Can someone tell me is this a problem with the Home version of Office 2003 that can not be fixed where everyone gets the message, or is their a setting I can alter to make it so this annoying message stops appearing?Quote from: hawthorn on September 27, 2008, 10:25:14 PM

I don't know what you mean by "Home version of Office 2003", since there is no such thing; I believe the version are Pro, Small Business, Standard, and STUDENT and Teacher. But, no, of course this is not normal behavior for Office 2003 or any version of Microsoft Office.

Take a look here. Did that help?

Solve : software for reading pdf like book?

Answer»

Hi
Most of people after reading a book put a paper, pen or etc between pages of the book.
Some one selects or UNDERLINES some part of book with pen or marker.
With Adobe reader (or Adobe acrobat) you can not mark or underline some LINE or PARAGRAPH of the book. Also you can not mark last page you reading.
Every one have problem with BIG PDF file. I have to note the page of the last page that I read on the small paper and STICK it to some place for next reading.
So, it’s better to go to main basis.
Is there any software for easy reading of E-Books? (.PDF)

Solve : Pinnacle Movie box VHS to DVD fuzzy?

Solve : Shortcuts keep respawning...?

Answer»

I use WINDOWS live messenger to COMMUNICATE with some of my friends, and every other time I use it, it runs msiexe.exe to put the start menu icons back. I keep manually removing them because my start menu is too long as it is, but it just keeps putting them back. Anyone know how to stop this?

Also, I use the windows start menu with the desktop toolbar instead of desktop icons. I can't seem to remove IE from the icons, every time I do it just... Respawns... Its not on my desktop, just on the toolbar, and its not the quick launch toolbar I'm using either. To put it short, I can't delete the IE icon from my start menu desktop menu, I delete it, but it just re-appears. Its not in the DISPLAY settings, or even on my actual desktop. I've uploaded a screen shot of it below.

[recovering disk space -- attachment deleted by admin]Do they respawn after you reboot or... how long does it take?Hold on, just to make SURE, the problem is that the IE icon keeps returning?Yeah, sorry for the delay, forgot I posted this. And yeah, its the IE icon, pops up at every boot or if windows explorer glitches. Did this on several other installs, even does this on my desktop! I'm running XP Pro SP2 version 5.1.2600, IE is version 6.0.2900.2180. I only leave internet explorer installed for Apps like Steam that use it to access the internet, I dislike internet explorer, but removing it doesn't kill the icon, unless I go through and remove every bit the browser manually. But that would SCREW up steam, and other apps that require IE. Any idea's? By default, I use Firefox, right now IE is an ulcer I can't remove from the OS without crippling other functions.Try TweakUI, in Control Panel (or Install the new version) Either way, the option(s) you seek should be listed in the Desktop tab/Treeview Node, depending on the version of tweakUI. Simply deselect the Internet Explorer Icon, and the icon should be gone for good.Sorry about the delay, used TweakUI, it didn't work. And the MSN shortcuts on my start menu even came back. Rather annoying problem this is, but don't bother searching for an answer if you don't feel like it. Its kind of like having a fly you don't feel like fetching the swatter to kill.

Solve : Moving my address book from one computer to another?

Answer»

Hi: I need help in moving my Outlook Express address book from one computer to another. One is a laptop, the other a PC, both use XP Windows. I found the address book in the old comp here: C: Program Files\Outlook express\WAB. I copied that and put it on my memory chip and put it into my new computer, and copied it to the desktop. Then, I went to my outlook express on the new computer and went to file and import, and clicked on the choice "desktop" but that file just didn't show up. So, I tried clicking directly onto the memory chip and still the file didn't show. Even though, when I'm not in OE, I can go to my computer, click on the chip and the old address book opens. I HOPE I've been clear...

ANYWAY, what can I do to get this address book from the old computer into the new one, short of reentering every single entry?

Thanks so much.

Dr. D.It has to be Exported from the Outlook Express program to the stick...copying it won't work.
You then open outlook on the other machine and Import it...
See your other Topic as WELL...ThankS! I had lost the other topic, but I found it. I exported and then imported, and it WORKED. Many thanks. By the way, I couldn't just straight import from the choice "address book". When I went to "import", I had to go to other address books, and then to comma separated VALUES. It wasn't too hard to figure that out but maybe you'd like to include that in your instructions for the next person!

Thanks again for all your help.

In peace
Dr. D. Glad to hear you're fixed up ...

Solve : Excel Date of Birth Format?

Answer»

Does anyone know how to change a DOB from 1945-05-14 to 05/14/1945? I have about 400+ DOB's in a column that I need formated to the second format to LOG import into another program.First make a BACKUP of the file, in case playing with date formats gives you 3548910200 instead of a date!

Then check that Excel is recognizing it as a date format. I tried entering 1945-05-14 in a cell and it automatically converted it to 05/14/1945 for me. Try clicking on the cell, going to format, and picking the date format you want.

If that *works* you can just select all of the cells and change the format in one fell swoop.Quote from: EJG on September 29, 2008, 06:16:41 PM

Same here, with Excel 2007. Once you GET that first cell formatted, you can use Format Painter to copy the format to an entire column.

I wonder whats gone wrong?

please help!I found this:
https://forums.comodo.com/help_for_v3/the_network_firewall_is_not_functioning_properly_merged_threads-t15023.0.html;msg109025#msg109025They don't talk about the solution to the problem, specially the defense not functioning properly problem.

I wonder if I have to uninstall it, the look of comodo has also changed, the comodo Chris(CBMATT) gave me was different!!Also the RUN Diagnostics says no problems found in installation! No harm in reinstalling it anyways.

Solve : IP Masking software?

Answer»

Hi.

Can anyone reccommend any IP address masking software? For security reasons only of course!

Cheers

FeenixHmmmmm......Who's security.......from who.......Indeed!

Truth is, had a lot of trouble with my computer lately - bit paranoid about security I suppose. Still, got Avast anti-virus which seems to pick up most stuff so FAR, and windows firewall of course, so I guess it aint really necessary.

Cheers.

Feenix
Check out SnapFiles for all the freeware you could want...

You'll surely find what you're looking for. Also, I don't see how Masking your IP address can help you. Quote from: Carbon Dudeoxide on September 30, 2008, 10:07:23 AM

Also, I don't see how Masking your IP address can help you.

Yes, you can't fully HIDE your IP address, no matter what you do. You can just make it harder to find.

Have you tried an online proxy?I want to know why he needs to hide his IP Address Hey, Guys.

I don't know much about computers really and I thought it would help make my system more SECURE - thats why I wanted to hide my ip address. You say its impossible and it wouldnt help - fair enough, end of subject.

Cheers.

Feenix

yes- it would be similiar to removing the address numbers from your house- those darn russian spies will have trouble FINDING you, but so will the pizza guy.

Solve : I made a BIG mistake with a RP5120 RCA Digital Voice Recorder?

Answer»

Hello,
When I was transferring a VERY VERY important voice recording from the player to the RCA Digital Voice Manager Software I renamed it in Windows Explorer not the RCA software. I now cannot open it on my computer and it is gone from the digital recorder itself -- I did not erase it. Apparently the software is proprietary to RCA, so it is not a normal .voc extension. I cannot change it to a .wav file either The file is on a Toshiba Satellite computer with Windows XP and I know where it is on the computer. I have tried different file extensions and different programs to open it. Unfortunately I did not read the fine print on the instructions, because it tells you not to do exactly what I did! It explains that I should have changed to file name once in was transferred to their software. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me -- this could be a real life saver! When you try to open it, exactly what happens?
What is the Error Message?

Also, what Operating System? When I click on the file the "opens with" box pops up and I select the RCA Digital Voice Manager program. That software opens up, but the file is no where to be seen. There is no error message. I use Windows XP home edition. Since this specific .voc extension is proprietary to RCA none of the utilities I've tried (voc2wav or winamp) have worked. I have been able to transfer the file back to the digital recorder and then back to the software. It shows up on the software, but will not open. It will not play on the recorder either. Thanks for your HELP.gunnisongirl, I did some research on your behalf and found the following forum site that seems to deal extensively with your problem (apparently it has created this dilemma for most users of the device you have). I read a great deal of what is offered (until my eyes glazed over). However as i got a fair way down solutions for .VOC conversions started to appear. I cannot advise as to their efficacy to your dilemma but they did point in that direction. You might want to have a look at it and report back if there is anything of value there (or not) goodluck, truenorth
Oops had forgotten to include the link. Here it is: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/printthread.php?t=5342Dear truenorth,
Very generous of you to take the time and do some research for me -- thank you. After four phone calls, lots of forum posts and much tequila (just KIDDING ) I went back into the Digital Voice Manager software found the file and was able to convert it to an .exe file, where, thank God, it plays on "Digital Voice Player" which is part of the original RCA software. I still cannot get it any further than that. I really need to be able to email it or at least have it play on some software that the general public has -- windows media, realplayer, etc... Would you possibly know how to take an .exe file to .wav or some other audio format. Thanks!gunnisongirl,Following is a program i use very often for audio conversions. It has a free trial version which is the one i use.it does not seem to include a conversion from .exe (not normally an audio file extension anyway) to any other normal audio file format. But that doesn't mean it won't as is stated in their comments. However they seem to have a forum also and maybe someone on that forum can advise you. Personally i would just see this as a challenge and still continue to try and achieve a solution that gives you more flexibility with the manner in which you can do things with the audio created by your RCA device (which according to the otherwise comments seems to be a great audio device). http://www.nch.com.au/switch/
On the subject of another converter that does specifically refer to .exe to .wav (or other optional audio formats) here is a link to a resource site that lists a great variety of file conversion software. On the page that will open if you scroll down to "FORTOP SWF Resources Extractor 1.2" (freeware) that seems to be something that will do what you want --and the price is right. let us know how you make out. I do have another thought of a different alternative if we cannot solve it this way. However i am not convinced that it will give you the high quality of sound that you should be able to have given the obvious quality of the RCA device you originate the sound file in. More on that later if it becomes necessary. goodluck, truenorth
I keep forgetting to include the links. Here it is http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Best/wav-to-exe_R2.htmltruenorth,
I tried both of your suggestions - no luck. I'm very grateful you know your stuff and hate to take up any more of your time, but if you're really bored.......gunnisongirl,Bored is not a regular part of my vocabulary (somewhat like can't or impossible).I assume the "i tried both your suggestions-no luck" refers to that after going to the 2 sites i offered the programs mentioned did not solve the issue? As opposed to meaning i could not access your links? What happened when you tried to do a conversion using "Switch"? Also what happened when you tried to use the one that was supposed to be able to convert .exe to .wav (or whatever)? As you saw with the latter site it contained pages of conversion programs did you check further to see if there were others that claimed to be able to do an .exe to .wav? I stopped once i found the one i mentioned. Have you contacted the manufacturer of your RCA recorder to see if they can suggest something (or to tell you it cannot be done--if that is the case)? Is it intended that you can record things on the RCA recorder and only listen to them while they are stored on the recorder? If so that seems unacceptably restrictive. I shall await your responce to this before suggesting an alternative. An alternative which will allow an ultimate use of a stored audio in other than .exe or .voc. But i will tell you now it is an arcane way and negates the ownership and use of the RCA recorder. Also as i mentioned it probably won't have the sound quality of your original. What are the output availabilities from your RCA recorder for sound transmission. Obviously headsets and an internal speaker i assume? Anything else such as a "line out" plug? truenorthSorry, truenorth, I will be more concise from now on. Re: Switch- I chose the sound file converter - it did not let me chose an .exe file (like you said, and I know, .exe is not normally an audio file). With the Fortop it allowed me to chose the file but then said the file was not a valid "SWF FLASH file". No, I did not try any of the other applications on the download page- I will look further. RCA was the first phone call I made yesterday (and the second!) and they said I was out of luck. I am suppose to be able to listen to them both on the recorder (which is not suppose to delete the file until I hit the "erase" button twice on the recorder), and also in RCA's specific software. My mistake was when I plugged in the USB cable from the recorder to my E drive, Windows Explorer popped up first (before the RCA software) to show me what files were on the E drive -- I quickly renamed the file from something like "A0000004.VOC" to "DrSmith9162008". The RCA instructions clearly state not to do what I did - I am at fault, but could you please explain why even after I reinstated the .voc extension it did not recognize it? I know about file extensions and what they do, but did not think of them at the time because this (potentially serious) situation which I need the recording for, was utmost in my mind and I was not thinking clearly. I do not need the recorder for anything other than this file. The output ability is a headset and an internal speaker.

RE: my "bored" comment was just to try and interject some humor - hee

Thanks again.
gunnisongirl, I too took your "bored" comment in the same vein.As much as it pains me to say so "can't" and " Impossible " are also experiences that i have had to acknowledge. It is just that i believe one should not rush into accepting them as immediate results (as many do).OK enough rambling on to solutions. I am 1st going to define the problem as i see it then give you a way to resolve it.
1.you have an audio file that is now on your computer.
2.It was originated by a recording made on your RCA recorder.
3.because you inadvertently did a mechanical function on the RCA recorder it no longer exists on the recorder.
4.Whereas initially you could not access the file on your computer you now can.
5.you can now play and hear the audio from the computer speakers or presumably a headset.
6.because of the uniqueness of this particular audio content you need to retain it in a permanent or temporary transportable medium for either archival or as a presentation at some other physical location.
So if that is it what you need to do is correct. Then you have 2 options in my opinion. Both involve recording the audio transmission again. The source this time will be from your computer. You can do this by simply playing the audio and capturing it (through the air) by any device capable of doing that (even your RCA if that is your choice). The other method is to (using your headset out plug either on the tower or the speaker --whereever it is available) and use a line in plug on a voice recorder. This MAY take some trial and error as volume adjustments will have to be made at both ends.Be extremely carefull to have your volume level on the headset set very low (at least on the 1st attempt) as distortion will be a problem. If you do a through the air recording have the recorder fairly close to the speakers (about 1-2 feet away) and the volume not too high and do it in an environment of desireably no ambient background noise. Once you have the "new" recording made there are tons of programs to allow you to then save it on your computer and convert it to any of the multitude of audio files that exist.I personally use "Spin Doctor" which is a component of Roxio Easy Cd Creator. It allows input from any type of sound creating device. But I'm sure Nero (if that is what you have) also has a similar option. If you successfully get to the stage of having it as a new saved audio on an external recorder and need more help at that stage,I'll be happy to assist. let us know how this goes.goodluck, truenorth
truenorth- you are the MAN!!! As I was reading your solutions this morning I was hit with the "DUH" stick -- of COURSE I could play the audio file on my computer and record it back on to the recorder "through the air". I'm very glad one of us is in the position to think clearly. It worked, with a sound quality good enough for what I will need it for. From the recorder I sent it back to the RCA software and turned it into a .wav file which now plays on Windows Media Player. I will never be able to thank you enough for being that calm voice of reason and knowledge that helped me get though a very trying time in my life. gunnisongirl, Ain't life grand when things work out? Glad to have been of help.truenorthi own an rca rp5120. i don't know if anyone said this already but you can convert .voc to .wav by going to the rca software, and right-clicking the file you want to convert and choosing the option to convert the file to .wav

it works!Nevermind......

Solve : Lost Features in Kodak Imaging?

Answer»

I recently lost several of the most useful features in my Kodak Imaging. Straighten page, REMOVE SPECKLES, and rearrange pages.

I did reinstall the PROGRAM just before this happened. Still I haven't been able to figure out what changed.

Any ideas? Squiddy

p.s. Any SUGGESTIONS for a different SOFTWARE program that will scan into .tif with re-arrangeable pages, remove speckles, and straighten page?

Tanks.
I am not familiar with this program, but I have a suggestion.

If there is anything at the top called 'View' or 'Tools' or 'Toolbar', have a look through it and see if you can re-enable your missing features.

Solve : word to works conversion?

Answer»

Hi. I'm just in the MIDDLE of my exams and my computer died. I TOOK it to a computer shop but they could find nothing obviously wrong with it and advised me it would be better to spend the money on buying a new laptop than send it away to be repaired. Basically, the lights came on but nothing on the screen and 3 long beeps. That laptop was run as Windows XP but I think it had windows vista on it (I'm sure there was a sticker).
The computer guy put my old hard drive into a USB (box?) so that I could attach it to my new laptop (windows vista) and transfer my data. It's TRANSFERRED my photos which is a start but all the documents in Word that were the ones I needed can't be read. If I click on them they just show up as a few lines of symbols. Does anyone have any idea how I can get over this? I'm not sure why you would want to spend your time helping me but I'm thanking you in advance if you decided to respond. Best regards, FionaI think it would be cheaper to send it in for repair. Is the laptop under warranty?
(I think the store just wants your money )

Anyways, so you managed to get your .doc files into a working computer.
Does the other computer have Microsoft Word on it?

If not, I would install Open OFFICE
http://www.openoffice.org/
It is pretty much a free version of Microsoft Office.Hi, and thanks for replying .
My old computer with windows xp wasn't under warranty and all my important files are in word. The new laptop, run with windows vista, has microsoft office on it but no word. I've transferred the files over to the new laptop but of course, when I open them, they're illegible. Is there a way I can convert them so that my new laptop can read and edit them?
Many thanks for your time.
FionaExactly what are you trying to convert it to?

Also, following up on my PREVIOUS point, if you don't want to download Open Office, Google Docs can open Word Files and is an online application.

http://docs.google.com/?hl=en&tab=woHi. I checked out google docs. As you say, I've managed to transfer .doc files no problem but it's actually the .wps files that I'm having difficulty with and google mail cannot accept them. Any ideas?
Bear with me, I'm a total novice!
Thanks,
FionaI found this:
http://w-shadow.com/blog/2007/11/22/wps-files-explained-convert-wps-to-doc-for-free/

HOWEVER, Open Office can open .wps files too. It handles pretty much anything Microsoft Office can. (and it's free)

Solve : Question regarding downloading...?

Answer»

This may go against the site rules, so feel free to delete, admins...

Anyway, I was attempting to DOWNLOAD *fill in the blank* USING Flashget, but once the download got to 100%, it started a 'download time remaining' timer of 12 hours. I let it run overnight, and in the morning the timer was gone, and it still said 100%, but there was nothing in the 'downloaded' section. I clicked on the box showing the download, and the 12 hour timer started again. What gives? What is Fill In The Blank?

Where did you download it from?

Did you try again? Also, what browser?I think I know what the fill in the blanks is Quote from: Ivy on September 30, 2008, 10:08:57 AM

What is Fill In The Blank?

"Fill in the blank" is what I was attempting to download, and no, it wasn't "SEXY pronz".

I was downloading from ISO-hunt, using Flashget. My browser is Firefox, and yes, I tried it more than once, and tried more than one listing.Ok.....but would I be right in assuming what you are downloading is a full version of a not-free game?Quote from: Carbon Dudeoxide on September 30, 2008, 10:22:59 AM
Ok.....but would I be right in assuming what you are downloading is a full version of a not-free game?

You may assume whatever you wish...

Like I said in the beginning, I knew this was a sketchy question, which is why I gave my blessing for deletion. I just figured it didn't hurt to ask.Ok, here is a suggestion. Try it without the download manager.if this is a P2P program- it's possible that the timer that started afterwards was for "uploading".

Did you try "open containing Folder"?

EDIT: Bleh, it's flashget. oh well.I'll try it without the manager (why didn't I think of that?).

In regards to opening it, it doesn't give me any option to do that. It says 100% in the download window, but it doesn't show up in the downloaded section of the manager, so the only OPTIONS I have are to stop/start/pause/cancel, etc. the download.

Quite a few ISO's out there are built either crudely or incomplete...
Not to mention the extra little packages included...
Good Luck.

Solve : Outlook 2007 no send button proble. Please Help?

Answer»

I have been having problems with my Outlook. I have a Suddenlink account that am trying to connect to via POP3. The account setup works fine, the connection test out okay, and I can even receive my email, but when I open a new mail message there is no “send” button in the menu or next to the address fields. The root command of ctrl+enter will not work either which leads me to believe this is not a menu issue. When I try to setup the account on work Outlook both the send and receive works fine which leads me to believe that Suddenlink is not the problem. I have SEARCHED Microsoft help and the internet and tried a NUMBER of DIFFERENT things, but nothing seems to fix the problem. Here is a list of things that haven’t worked:
1.Resetting the Toolbars
2.Reinstalling Outlook
3.Removing all the email accounts and redoing the setup
4.Going under “more setting” and giving my SMTP authentication
5.Setting up a new profile

Solve : Quicktime Issues?

I've been having a RECURRING problem with my quicktime. Anytime I try to run an APPLICATION that involves quicktime it says "Your software is out of date" Not a big problem here, but when i click UPDATE my computer will generally freeze up. Finally I got an update through and the pop up still comes up, I've tried re-installing it etc... nothing seems to get rid of this 'your software is out of date" Even through multiple updates, I'm looking for some help thanks! One question I would LIKE to ask.....Do you need Quicktime?
There are better free and faster alternatives out there.I currently own an ipod and it is necessary for itunes to run...
Unless there is an alternative player that works with the ipod I am pretty much hooped. Though I am interested at looking into the alternatives for quicktime. Not SURE if this would help but - if you are using the ''genuine'' quicktime - maybe uninstall that and go find ''Quicktime Alternative". (There is also a "Real Alternative" too.)

It carries less baggage!

my buddy's laptop isn't booting PROPERLY for some reason. it goes through the motherboard's splash screen, then gets to the vista load screen, and freezes. it acts LIKE it's done loading vista, the screen will go black, but it just sits there, not computing. when he booted under safe mode, it gets to the file crcdisk.sys before it freezes. he wonders if vista is fubar, but i'm not entirely sure, as i'm not there to help him out. i do think it's a software issue, but i'd figured i'd get some help from you guys. any ideas? It may be a driver, or hard drive issue.
Open Event Viewer, and look here:

i assume this requires him to get into windows, correct? if that is the case, he can't do it, because it freezes as windows is loading.I see. I didn't read carefully enough. Sorry.
Does he have Vista DVD?unfortunately no. the oem disk didn't come with his laptop when he bought itCreate Vista Recovery Disc.

After this, it will present you with a list of options including startup repair, system restore and command prompt:

Try System Restore, first.
If that doesn't work, try Startup Repair.awesome. i'll do that for him before he goes and spends $xxx to get someone to fix it. i'll post back with results. cheers!I'll be waiting WELL it worked. he did a system restore to last FRIDAY, and now everything seems to be working all dandy. thanks a bunch broni! Solve : Outlook 2003 Sharing?

Please give detailed information, it helps us in helping you.Sorry - very new at help forums. The OS is Windows XP (Service Pack 3), McAfee Antivirus 8.0, Microsoft Office 2003 professional edition. Here's the problem: a boss gave her secretary "owner permissions" on her calendar so she could TAKE care of the appointments for her boss. Then the boss promoted, has a new secretary, and removed the previous one from the calendar permissions. One month later, the old secretary still has permissions for the calendar - I looked at the permissions and delegations and the old secretary's NAME is not listed anywhere. Why does she still have permissions to the calendar?

Solve : OPening JPG files?

Answer»

When i try and open jpg files emailed via OUTLOOK they open using Photoshop.
How do i change this default setting in Outlook so it opens as JPG image?
Thanks to anyone that can help with this....... Well - it is still opening as a JPG but seemingly not in the application of your choice.

I use Thunderbird but Outlook should have within all the options a setting whereby you select the app you wish to use ... usually this will be by BROWSING to your chosen app and selecting its .EXE file.

A very handy VIEWER is Irfanview but otherwise choose Windows pic and fax viewer or MS paint. To change the default program that opens .JPG files, just find a JPG and right click it. Then navigate to Open With, and click Choose default program.

When the box opens, click on the program, or BROWSE to it if it is not there, and make SURE the checkbox "Make this the default program for all files with this extension" (or something like that) is checked.

Now, just click OK.

you can change the software to open a file.
to do this--
open explorer. e.g. my document, any drive, any folder. etc
tools>folder option>file types.
here you choose .jpg file types then change the software you want.

Solve : Excel Data?

Answer»

Is there a way to delete everyother line of excel data containing about 1000+ lines...instead of individually going through and clicking every other row??There are a couple of ways to approach this. You could write a macro (VBA) that is stored and run from within the Excel application. You could write a script (VBS) that is stored and run external to the Excel application.

External script
Code: [Select]Const xlUp = -4162
xlsPath = "c:\temp\test.xls" 'spreadsheet name

Set xlApp = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
xlApp.Workbooks.Open xlsPath
Set xlSheet = xlApp.ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets(1)

For i = 2 To xlSheet.UsedRange.Rows.Count
xlSheet.Rows(i).Delete xlUp
Next

With xlApp
.DisplayAlerts = False
.ActiveWorkbook.Save
.ActiveWorkbook.Close
.Quit
End With

Be SURE to change xlsPath for your machine.

Save script with a vbs extension and run from the command prompt: cscript scriptname.vbs

As written, all even numbered rows will be deleted. Initialize i to 1 to delete odd number rows.

Warning: Script overwrites the source spreadsheet, you may want to change this.Hm, that may work, but probably looks pretty daunting if the questionner isn't facile with scripts and such. Often, in Excel, there is a simpler way to do things using the spreadsheet commands themselves.

Try this:

1. Save the FILE someplace under a different name, in CASE something goes awry.
2. Create two new columns.
3. In the first, put a series of numbers from 1 to the total N. You can type 1, 2, 3, 4 in the first four cells, highlight them, then grab the LITTLE + at the lower right of the cells to drag them down. Excel will continue the number sequence for you. Do NOT use formulas in the cells for numbers. We need these to be actual numbers that will stay what they are even when sorted.

4. In the second blank column, put this equation. I will pretend the first new column was C and this one is D. =iseven(C1). This should return "FALSE" for "1". Copy/paste the equation down the column. It now shows "FALSE" and "TRUE" alternately. It just asks if the number in the column to the left "is even" or not!

5. Highlight (Select) the entire file. All lines and columns with data.

6. Sort by the column with true false in it. You now have all the false lines first, then all the true lines.

7. Delete either the true lines or the false ones.

8. Select the entire file again.

9. Sort by the ID we created in step 3.

Voila, half the lines are gone and your file is back in the original order.

Let us know which of these solutions (if either) you used!

Solve : Need help with Movie Maker. Can't save movie files??

Answer»

Hi. I've been making movies for a long while and nothing like this has happened before. I'm trying to save an AMV I made as a movie file so I can post it on youtube, but the same MESSAGE pops up.

It says: "Windows Movie Maker cannot save the movie to the specified location. Verify that the original source files used in your movie are still available, that the saving location is still available, and that there is enough free disk space available and then try again."

I've checked everything it says to check, I've cleaned out everything and DEFRAGMENTED but it still won't work. The movie also isn't too big. What's wrong with it? Where are you trying to save it to? Have you tried saving it to a different PLACE?

Also, what operating system are you using?Quote from: Zylstra on October 12, 2008, 12:27:04 AM

Where are you trying to save it to? Have you tried saving it to a different place?

Also, what operating system are you using?

I tried saving it to 'My Movies' folder, and then I tried saving it to a sub folder in the movies folder called 'Miscellaneous'.
My system is Windows XP '98.

Solve : Tab not working for bullet lists in Word?

Answer»

I use bullet lists in Microsoft Word (2007) all the time, but just recently the Tab button stopped indenting the bullet point. It used to be that when I hit Tab, the bullet point would move a few SPACES to the right and turn from a black dot to a WHITE dot with black outline, but now the bullet point stays the same and only the CURSOR moves. Do you know how to fix this?

THANKS,
BrianNot sure why it would magically stop doing that, but there are various options for autoformat in Word. Look under tools (that's where it is for Word 2003, anyway!) and see if you have unchecked the box for automatic bulleted lists and such. If so, recheck that box and see if the problem goes away.Find your normal.dotm file and rename it, with Word closed. Then, re-open Word. Did that fix it?

normal.dotm is the default TEMPLATE file that stores your settings for Word. It can become corrupt. The above procedure creates a new normal.dotm file.

Solve : PowerISO error?

Answer»

I get an error in PowerISO. I did do a Google search. I will post the link below. On that link, I am still not sure how to fix the error. I do have a registered copy of it. The files I am trying to extract are .DAA files. I tried USING MagicISO but it's not a CD image file so it couldn't open. Doing research I found PowerISO will do the job.

http://archive.atomicmpc.com.au/foru...=2&c=9&t=13481

Error message I get it below.

The system cannot find the file specified.
You are ready to open multiple VOLUME image file. PowerISO needs this volume to continue.Where is this file from and what is it ? ?
It may not have been ASSEMBLED properly in the first place...Quote

The system cannot find the file specified.
You are ready to open multiple volume image file
I SUSPECT, we're dealing here with one ISO file, which is split into more than one DAA files, and one, or more of those files are missing.

Solve : FAST FOURRIER TRANSFORM?

Answer»
hello guys,

im reading the paper titled : The input output complexity of sorting and related problem.
(you can find the paper at http://www.cs.duke.edu/~jsv/Papers/AgV88.IO.pdf)

I got stuck at the second page, the paragraph in titled : FAST FOURIER TRANSFORM

the paragraph says :

Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) Problem Instance: Let N be a power of 2. The internal memory is empty, and the N records reside at the beginning of the disk; that is, x = nil, for 1 5 i 5 M, and x[M + i] = Ri, for 1 5 i 5 N. Goal: The N output nodes of the FFT directed graph (digraph) are “pebbled” (to be explained below) and the memory configuration is exactly as in the original problem instance.

besides you deleted those posts you made in between after my first reply, you need to understand we are helping here for free and you need to fix your attitude and know how to ask for help in the first place, instead of just deleting your posts later on.This is a general computer help and fix advice forum. It is not a university level comp sci site. That is what Dias has to say. I agree with Ivy, in general, but I must say, Ivy, dear, that you should earn the "right to be rude" by having a solid history of giving REAL help and not just "try Google" and "be patient, somebody might know the answer" type posts. I have only done that once, i told him to be patient because he was my friend from the chat room and he was really worried!!!!! I never told anyone to google before!!

Dias check all my posts!!

Gosh you won't change no matter what I do!!!!!

p.s. you mean you have a right to be rude!!Quote from: Ivy on October 12, 2008, 03:49:34 AM

Solve : excel logic question, too complicated????

Answer»

Hi, all. I'm not real robust on complicated excel logic, and so I'm not sure if I can do what I want or not. here's the SCOOP. Excel 07, windows XP Pro MACHINE. I'm making my own budget sheet, and I have a table setup with date, cost, & category. I have a LIST defined with all these categories, and then I sweep the table and sum the ones for my totals. for example. home category consists of two items, so the total is
=SUM(SUMIF(E:E,"home Improvement",D:D),SUMIF(E:E,"Furnature",D:D))
some categories have one item, some have more.

Now, I am TRYING to break this down by weekly spending, so I tried to filter by date first.
=IF(DAY(A:A)<=7,SUMIF(E:E,"Salary",D:D),0)
this just returns the entire month's salary and puts it in the week column that I am in. What I am looking for is to have my total columns off to the side, and I want it to first filter by day and then sum. I tried
=SUMIF(IF(DAY(A:A)<=7,(E:E,"Salary",D:D),0))
trying to drive the if to push the sum, but it doesn't like it. I can think it out with code, but I always have a hard time translating that to excel formulas. It would go like:
For (all items in stack)
If Day <= 7 and Category = Salary
wk1total = wk1total + salary
If (Day > 7 and Day <= 14) and Category = Salary
wk2total = wk2total + salary
etc

Suggestions? Thanks!

How many user profiles are on this machine ? ?thanks for your time patio, i really appreciate it. i have already tried this sorry for not mentioning it. i have also tried the 'correct sidebar displays in 'tuneup utillities' but both were to no avail. I have also removed and reinstalled the gadget (several times grrrr)in my frustration i have also tried a SYSTEM restore but got no joy there either. iv'e updated flash, updated java and performed virus scans (just incase) and ran CCleaner. i do not have any problems using youtube, facebook e.t.c. There are many of them out there and few that i like...nice one potio.. that it what it is called. Tuneup Utillieties 2008. it has served me well in the past.Just wondering, where did you get the WMPlayer gadget for the sidebar? What does it do that you cannot do by merely adding WMP to your Quick Launch toolbar?i downloaded the gadget from microsofts 'gadget' web page. check it out http://gallery.live.com/results.aspx?bt=1&pl=1&ds=2&la=en&tier=0&st=1&p=1&c=37. you'll find two gadgets, one that shows the lyrics of the song playing (quite nice)and one wich is the normal WMP. all they do is provide you with a micro version of wmp that plays your entire album on start up. i like music ALOT so its just a nice gadget to have. i've started using a different gadget (downloaded from the same site)that does the EXACT same thing so i would like to thank you two guys for your time. it's still anoying that i could'nt figure out the prob.stay classyIs it the one called "Lyrics Player", not the one called "Media Player", on that first page of your link for gadgets?yes. its also the wmp gadget, not the full wmp that there aswell

Solve : Microsoft Excel 2002?

Answer»

Can you protect the formula only within EXCEL 2002? The idea is to be able to change the data over and over within any given cell but not allow anyone to change its formula.

Thank Youwhat OS?XP Pro Ver 2002 Service Pak 2I think I KNOW what you want to do. I assume you have formulas in some cells, data to change in others that access those cells. But maybe you're needing SOMETHING more complicated!

You should be able to do what I think you want by a fairly standard Excel process -- First, select any cells that have data in them to be *changed* and tell Excel to unlock them (Format cells --> protection. Unclick the "locked" box). Note that all cells are protected (locked) by default.

The trick is that Excel IGNORES the locked status until you protect the entire worksheet. Go to "tools" then "protection" and tell Excel to protect the entire sheet. You can enter a password if you want to really stop people from changing anything, but normally I don't -- my purpose is to prevent accidental changes, and you don't need to bother with a password for that.

Once the sheet is protected, only the cells you unlocked should be changable. The rest will give a pop-up error message.

Is this what you wanted to do? If you wanted to change data within a formula, while leaving the formula, I don't know how to do that -- but most people would put the data in different cells and have the formula just read them. In that case, my method should work.

Let me know how you MAKE out!

Solve : Outlook 2003 Tasks?

Answer»

In Outlook 2003, you can share your tasks folder, but if you have created sub-folders in your tasks, they are not visible. How do I get the sub-folders to be shared? Are they just invisible?

Actually Sharing subfolders requires a bit more effort as the subfolders are not accessible from the Open Other Users Folder dialog.

Before a person can view one of your folders, they NEED permission. If they are a Delegate to your mailbox (Tools, Options, Delegates) they may have permission to some or all of your mailbox folders. If so, the delegate just needs to open your mailbox as a secondary mailbox in their profile.

1. Right click on the folder you wish to share.
2. Choose Properties, select the Permissions tab.
3. If Default has Reviewer permission you won't need to add individual names to the list unless they need more permissions than the Default account has.
4. Click Add and select the names you want to share with from the Global Address List.
5. Give them at least Reviewer permission so they have Folder visible permission.
6. Click OK to close the dialog.

Repeat for each folder you wish to share.

If the person already has delegate access you won't need to do ANYTHING more. If they do not have any access to your mailbox, you need to give them Folder visible permission to the mailbox.

1)Right click on the mailbox root. This is the folder you click on to display Outlook Today.
2)The Default account typically has no permission to the entire mailbox. You can either give the Default account Folder visible permission or click Add and select your co-worker's name from the GAL.
3) Check the Folder visible box only. LEVEL the permission level set to None.
4) Click Ok to exit the dialog. For opening the shared folder.

The person you shared the folder with needs to add your mailbox to their profile, as a secondary mailbox.

1. Go to Tools, Account Settings.
2. Select your Exchange account and press Change
3. Click More Settings
4. On the Advanced Tab, click Add
5. Type all or part of the name of the mailbox that was shared with you. Select the correct name if presented with a list of names.
6. Click Ok and work your WAY out of the dialogs and return to Outlook.

The mailbox you added is now in your folder list and the calendars you have permission to view will be listed in the Calendar pane. Any other folders that this user was GIVEN permissions to access will be visible in the folder list or appropriate modules

I have given all this information because this could also help you in your other problem posted.

Best of luck!
