Yesterday, I suddenly began getting different, larger, and bolded FONTS displayed in just a few cases. One is warning messages (opening a file could be bad, and stuff like that) that are displayed when I am using Outlook. The other is in CCleaner. Most characters are displayed correctly in other programs, but in just a few they are strange.

The first strange thing that happened was that a certain font disappeared from my Fonts folder. I was able to install it again, but I haven't found a way to get the other problem fixed.

The only things I did before I noticed the problem was install Bioshock.
I also upgraded my graphics card driver (NVIDIA). I tried rolling back to the previous driver, but that didn't solve the problem.

Any ideas why MIGHT be happening? Or a way to restore all default font settings without a system reinstallation?

When I delete emails from my inbox, all that happens is a line goes through them. How do I permanently delete and get rid of them?

There's a BUNCH of e-mail CLIENTS out there...Nothing goes into your DELETED Items folder? Try dragging the ones you want to delete directly there.I dont have English version, but you will find function what are you looking for in MS OUTLOOK main menu. I dont know exact translation but it will be something like that ... click on edit (menu where items like paste, copy ... are placed) and there you will find ITEM named something like empty, clear. This item has about three subitems and there you can delete selected messages.We still have no idea what e-mail client is being used here...You have to purge...

IMAP messages are neither deleted immediately just "marked for deletion" until you purge the folder.

In the default view used by Outlook for IMAP accounts the messages are displayed grayed out and with a strike-through line.

Don't know if anyone can help, but I have a huge list of WORDS arranged into about 5 COLUMNS. What I want to do is create a formula, PROBABLY in Excel, but if anything ELSE is BETTER suited thats fine! that randomly selects one row and displays it in another sheet in big text so it can be viewed.

Grab the Guitifications plugin to get a better notifier.
Its resource usage varies, I have seen it below 10MB but MINE is SITTING at 23MB of RAM right now.
Surely you can SPARE the RAM from either of your machines? I never noticed Pidgin's resource usage on one of my other machines with 256MB RAM.

After opening up regEdit.exe and trying to browse to the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\RPC in order to edit the values as mentioned in the article, I FIND that the RPC is missing?

My parents are using outlook express with win xP. Now for the second time in RECENT months they are unable to click on and access links within an e-mail. Ie: if someone sends an e-mail and says look at this website, http://www.lookhere.com

When they click on it it does nothing, if they copy and paste the link into a browser it works fine. I tried it myself on their e-mail and computer. It only happens on their computer, If I access their e-mail on my computer it will work fine. I took off all of the security on their computer and tried it and it did not work. I RAN a virus scan and it SHOWED nothing. The only fix I have is to format the hard drive and re INSTALL everything. Anyone have any ideas or see that I am missing somthing. Been trying to install this Word Program originally came as bundled software with my OS 98.

I am using my XP now. Not sure it is good for XP though. The DISK says:

Microsoft
Windows NT
Windows 98

Does this mean it will not work with XP

Anyway I have been getting error messages that I am missing a DLL file so I found a program and downloaded the Dll file msaddndr.dll I inserted it in windows sys32 but when I try to download the program again it still can not find the msaddndr.dll file.

So, what do I do!

thefonz I usually recommend Open Office at www.openoffice.org. It will read most Word FILES, and doc files. It doesn't yet read the NEW docx format which Microsoft introduced in Office2007.

I'm very frustrated trying to do almost anything in Office 2007. Windows Online learning is also almost USELESS for me. Do you know of anyplace that might LIST the commands and buttons that were in Office 2002 and will quickly show me where I might find them in Office 2007? What will be the quickest way to learn Office 2007? There is no place in Office 2007 where I can enter a 'help word' and get answers.

Virtual memory with Windows is a paging FILE set up automatically as ''extra memory'' for large tasks - but you can change its settings usefully if careful. Otherwise leave well alone. It should be there by default - nothing to 'install'.

I'm looking for a program (preferably free) that restricts what people can change on a Windows XP SP2 computer. This computer will have two accounts: the admin account and a limited user account. This program will only be restricting the limited account. I've looked around, but can't seem to find a single program one that does everything I need, so looking for any suggestions you guys might have. More or less, I need it to:

1) Lock out the control panel, taskbar & start menu settings, and display settings INCLUDING wallpaper

I was going through my photo software and there are some photos I am trying to pull up and EDIT, but I keep getting this message. Kodak easy share software can no longer find the file. The file may have been renamed or moved in your Windows file

If so, open Explorer (Windows Logo key + E) and try searching for them.

Can you find them?Are they .jpg files? Search for all .jpg files or any other type file by uisng an * as a wildcard for the filename. For example, searching on *.jpg will find all .jpg files on drive C if you select C as the location for the search.I was lucky and found a tool on the photo software that reconnects missing pictures. All my photos are on a zip disk and unfortunately in folders I've found when I opened up the contents of the zip disk. The problem now is, that when I try to reconnect the missing pictures in the folders I keep getting a message that says that it could not locate the files in the hard drive. They are not on the hard drive. How do I get the software to realize that the photos are on a zip disk? The problem may lie within the avi file you created with "fraps".

So we know it's not the Media Player...and we know it isn't your video card.

I briefly looked over "fraps" at their site...their latest version is 2.9.2...I think. Anyhow....The avi file you created with "fraps" may be playing at a speed the Player can't handle...specifically FPS (frames per second)...that's one cause. Another may be the refresh rate of the monitor. One more may be that your video card may not support full 3D acceleration...it really depends on what this avi file is that you're trying to play.What about just regular Videos? IVE downloaded a few movies off limewire and they seem to lock to, so maybe i should adjust my video card settinsg around to a different screen refresh rate?Actually...have you made any changes to the settings on your video card lately?

The reason I'm asking is that usually the default settings (after GPU installs) will work with most games and videos...unless these games or videos require certain display settings...but are usually handled automatically by the card if the card supports the game/video.

I don't think I'd be messing around too much with your display settings...and I don't want you to think I've wasted your time, but you may want to wait for someone else to come along with a better grasp of graphic cards than I.

Hopefully, we've RULED out the virus...since we know you can play avi files.

Here's an opinion from me...about LimeWire...

I'm really not a big fan of P2P...to me...you're just asking for trounle...because you really don't know what you're getting off of another end-user's machine. Even if you protect yourself with all the latest malware protection...there is that slight chance you could be vulnerable...and open yourself up to infection. It's your decision though.

I have recently been having the same problems and went through all the normal CHANNELS of fixing the problems that appear. Being updates,running my hijack this and the free malware and virus programs on cnet. When that didnt help i pulled out the trusty alienware respawn KIT still no dice.
I would agree on the resolution or acceleratioin but i am running a year old alienware
and the video card was top of the line at the time.
I started to notice these problems after the service pak 3 UPDATE so i held off on that and tried diffirent players both didnt seem to fix it.
Last option i am toying with is some sort of complication between the nVidia driver and some part of the software. As long as i can still play my games it isnt that important but i like my stuff to work a bit .When it doesnt it usally starts to cause other problems or your infected.

I have run the updater now and got all the newest drivers for both my video card, Monitor. and sound card.I have a few more idea's now though thank you guys.

Whenever I try to open an excel file, it opens in notepad. If I try to START excel from the start menu, I get a Windows Installer instance.

It was working just moments before - I was working with a csv file.

Any ideas?

What OPERATING System?To set the file association of an excel (.xls) file to open with your Excel program, simply right click the file and select Open with, followed by selecting Excel as the associated program. Don't FORGET to Apply/Save your settings. This will associate those file types with Excel and should open them properly in the future.

One other thing you may want to do is to visit the Office Update site located at: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/downloads/maincatalog.aspx

You'll need to validate your copy of Microsoft Office...then continue to follow the directions in order to update your version of Office.

Make sure you have your Office software available...just in case you need it.

Continue to visit the Office Update site to make sure you have all of the updates installed for your version of Office.

Once this is done, you may continue to see this Installation wizard...it's Excel's way of completing an installation if there have been any changes made to its original configuration.

Basically, excel was working, then stops working and just starts a windows installer dialogue. Word etc. works fine.

This is Excel 2007 which I purchased from school.

Search for Office updates in the Download Catalog
Out of 3 patches, I was manually able to update one patch, but the other 2 patches gave me update detection errors.

Could this be caused by running CCleaner?It is possible that CCleaner could have been the culprit here.

Best bet would be to uninstall Office and then reinstall. Once installed...follow the previous link I gave you to update your Office suite.

I downloaded a demo version of a game called blockland. I want to uninstall it but it dosent show up in controll panel's uninstall program list. Is there a way to uninstall it? Its still installed on my computer. Seems a lot of people are having this very same issue with Blockland. I tried searching for how to uninstall it and just came up with a lot of people saying they can't get it uninstalled, but there we no answers.

Caution, many users are not advanced enough for this option. Click start,
run, type in "regedit" (w/o the quotes), Look for HKEY LOCAL MACHINE, click
the + sign, scroll down to software, then microsoft, then windows, scroll to
current version, scroll down to uninstall, click the + sign and check to see if
the program you're trying to uninstall is still listed, if so, right click and delete
it. Note: It is important to backup your registry 1st by going to the top of the
Registry and click file to export to My Documents or a folder of your choice. If
you're not comfortable with this reply, by all means, avoid my response, be-
cause you may cause all kinds of complications with your operating system.

Yahoo Messenger (version 8 and 9) CONSTANTLY SIGNS out every few minutes. I thought it was just a problem with YM but then I tried Windows Live Messenger and AIM and they give me the same problem. I have used Windows Live Messenger before on this computer and it has never done that.

What could be the problem?

My computer is an HP Pavilion a1747c with Vista OS. ALSO, I installed TSP codec (a fix for Yahoo voice chat running on Vista system) when I started using Yahoo Messenger. http://www.yazakpro.com/chatstuff/yahoo/vistayahoovoicefix.html

anyone have any solutions? What type of connection is this ? ?I have cable Internet from Comcast. There was a problem with the connection and the technician came to fix the connection. But this didn't resolve the problem of the instant messenger programs signing out constantly. So the problem is not a result of a poor Internet connection.

Recently I was having problems with zune software so I contacted microsoft support. The person told me to try updating my .net framework and I did. The problem was STILL not resolved so he asked me to change a file name, but I can't remember where and what I was told to change. After the file name was changed he asked me to try updating .netframework again, but this time I got an error. I told him about the error and he promptly ended the phone call. I went to try and install .net framework 3.5 today and the install says it has encountered and error and all installed files have been removed. I'm running on windows vista home premium.

What I'm trying to get at here, is there any WAY I can get .net framework back up and running without having to reinstall windows? I don't have the windows discs, since they weren't shipped with this computer and I'd like to avoid paying for windows again.

Below is a note from 'Micro-LOL-Soft' about installing NetFramework 3.0 on
Vista.

Antivirus applications that are configured to clean the Temp folder will cause setup to fail if setup needs to reboot.
If setup needs to reboot, and the antivirus application is set to clean the Temp directory on launch, necessary setup files will be deleted and setup will fail with a program-not-found error.

To resolve this issue

Change your antivirus applications configuration to not clean the Temp folder on launch or reboot before running .NET Framework 3.0 setup. Consult your antivirus documentation for the steps to accomplish this.

about Microsoft Vista.I tried the link for .net framework 3.0 you gave me and when I go to download it, the download works fine but when it starts installing it told me "You must use "TURN Windows features on or off" in the control panel to install of configure microsoft.net framework 3.0" After I clicked ok to it, vista sent me a MESSAGE saying the software may not have installed correctly, and I can choose wether to download with recommended settings or say it was downloaded fine. I'm not going to press anything until I hear somebodies input, because generally when I choose it's wrong. I don't think it installed correctly since the install was interupted but I've got no idea if I should download it with what vista wants.

When I whent to the web site it says it supports U Torrant.
Does this mean I can just go to the Torrant SITES and when I download something from a Torrant it will go into Frostwire?

Hi all. For some reason, whenever I try to author a DVD, either I get an error message or a crash about halfway through. I've tried Nero Vision, DivX Author, and TMPGEnc Authoring Works. At first I thought it had to do with a codec conflict, so I uninstalled and reinstalled the programs (one at a time), then I installed K-Lite Codec pack. I am still having no success. For anyone with experience with these type of programs, any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

For BlueScreenView, it doesn't seem to be scanning when I first run the program, so there are no crash reports or anything. Do I need to "get" another BSOD by running the DVD authoring program?

I have the free version of AVG. If I wanted to put BACK it up on a THUMB drive (just in case something goes wrong with my computer and because I have a dial-up connection, I don't want to have to download the whole program over again) what's the best way that I can do this and ensure that I have not only have the program but all the DATA updates I have since downloaded to the program as well?

Message comes up that says WORKS cannot OPEN another spreadsheet or data base. You can only have 6 open at once. Please close one and try again.

I don't have any SPREADSHEETS or data bases open, what is the problem? I scanned it for viruses and it scanned clean.Is it a FILE that was created with Works, or another software?Works. I've ALSO tried to open it with Word, Excel and Excel viewer but none will do the job.

I am a retired physician who is planning on going back to work part-time as a primary care doc at an Urgent Care clinic. I am also starting to WRITE a book about stress reduction. I have heard that Dragon Naturally Speaking is the only voice-recognition software available. I have also heard that the Professional 10 is more voice-sensitive and accurate than the Preferred 10 version. I have read in CNET's reviews that the tech support from Nuance (the software developers) is inadequate at best.

My quandry is whether there is other voice-recognition software available, and whether I should use Professional or Preferred for writing my book. I don't use "macros", don't access Outlook, but do access websites as references when writing. At some point I may want the Medical version, but not now. I don't think Professional can be upgraded to Medical. However, at lot of my text uses medical terminology and am not sure if Professional can recognize medical terminolgy.

Any users of Dragon NaturallySpeaking willing to critique and help me decide which WAY to go? Any websites specifically for users of Dragon software that you KNOW of?

Thank you, Dr. GI use an earlier version of Dragon. Make sure you hardware is of good quality Dragon does not do well where other things are going on and if the hardware is under stress because of limited CPU power.

IMO you would do better to start with the lower cost version. The Medical version is priced for the active Medical Professional. In any case, you can easily corrent erros later.

Dragon will goof that up. But you can train Dragon to recognize the way you like to say it. You can teach it to spell those words whenever you say "Trick Noses" and "Trick Spies" and from then on it will do the right word for you.

Yeah, the support may be poor, but they do have support and there are others who can help you with it.

I dictate with Dragon at about 90 words per minuets, which is a lot better the the 30 wpm I type. Sad to say, I can not use it in my living room because there is too much noise and/or I distract others in the house.

Hi, I'm in a BIT of a mess with my outlook express and would appreciate some help. I use hotmail for my personal email account and my hotmail account YESTERDAY stopped working with outlook express. i think that outlook express has stopped supporting hotmail accounts or maybe the other way around. Does ANYONE know a way that I can still access my hotmail folders via outlook express. I have found a way to check my EMAILS via outlook express with POP3 but this doesn't give me the FACILITY to manage my hotmail folders. It also doesnt allow me anymore to download my existing files that are on the server. It seems like Microsoft want everyone to switch over to Windows live mail which I dont want to do for numerous reasons.

I am planning to GIVE away USB mp3 players that contains mp3 version of malayalam bible.

I don't what the recepient to modify the content of the USB, instead, they should approach us and ask us if they want to change the content of the MP3 player.

Is there a way to protect the USB for modification and at the same time make the items playable?
I think the player WOULD have to be specifically made for this.. If the USB Mp3 player (which can currently be both read and write) and there is a "hold" button on it if you can create a situation whereby the "hold"button is constantly locked "on" that will probably make it a read only device. You would have to put your information on it first then somehow lock the "hold" button ACTIVE forever. I'm not sure the browsing history will be restored? If System Restore does not work, you can reverse the process to where you are now.

HijackThis produces an extremely long and complicated log. Another section of this Hope site would most likely need to interpret the hijackthis log.

Hijackthis is a sledge hammer and all you need is regular hammer.

p.s. I doubt that Hijackthis can restore the web browsing history. More likely web browsing history can be restored with System restore. Or a backup disk if you have one?

And to call a hijackthis log "long and complicated" is to profess your own ignorance about it rather then a provide a subjective analysis.

We have several e-mail accounts that Outlook 2003 processes. Our main source is a .pop account which I have to manually set as my DEFAULT everytime that I shut down my computer or logoff.

I go through "Tools", "E-mail Accounts...", "View or Change Existing E-mail Accounts" and reset it to the default that I desire.

There is a Microsoft SERVER Exchange account as WELL, which is reset to the default everytime I log off or shut down.

This causes a PROBLEM when I send an e-mail to another person, my e-mail shows up to them as ****@***.local instead of .com which then does not allow them to reply to me.

How can I get the default to stay as the .pop account instead of the Microsoft Server Exchange?

I just experienced this in the last few days, I will get an email with a link, won't open. Go to a website, click link, it opens a new window, but nothing happens. How do I change this? Now it's not HAPPENING on ALL websites, but I did get an email from a work-at-home place and it said "Click Here" (yeah I know, be careful of work-at-home schemes, I was just going to check it out, see what it said) and when I "Click(ed) Here" it OPENED a new window but it remained blank. This has happened more frequently in the last few days and the only thing I have done is downloaded some updates for Windows Vista. Do you think that might be causing it? The updates were:

Definition Update for Windows Defender
Update to .NET Framework 3.5 Service PACK 1 for the .NET Framework Assistant 1.0x86
Update for Windows Vista
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool

Please bear (bare?) in mind that I am somewhat computer stupid and need as simple an explanation as you can get for a fix, if someone knows of one. Should I restore my computer to before the updates and see if that is it? Those of you who have helped me in the past know my limitations, but any help will be appreciated!

System Restore is a good option. The PROCESS can be reversed if it does not work.

Filter the bad link through notepad and it might work. Highlight link, copy and paste to notepad. Then copy and paste to your address slot. Notepad will remove garbage control characters.

You might paste to MS Word. First place cursor at the start of the link and do a return. Then place the cursor at the end of the link and do a return.

The link should come alive and might work from MS word and there is no need to copy and paste to your address slot.

Still does not work:
After all this a F5 ( refresh screen ) might awaken the blank web page.

I use a USB mouse instead of the touchpad.

when i try to copy and paste.
it doesn't work.
if i tried to copy and paste everything i just said.
it would paste the last thing i copied.

It only LETS me copy things on websites. where i can't type.
if that makes any sence.

I tried going to the control panel and under one of the options.
i clicked on the mouse option.

and it only has things for the touch pad.

When I use Coreldraw I can Draw 3D objecst ad shadows and Light.

I can import photos and make a Document.
I can ad text.

Now it also can with Photo Paint and I can Cut OBJECTS out with a Laso Tool and things like this.

Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 - SP2 MSO

Computer is: Dell Inspiron 530 - APX. 16 MONTHS old. I have about 200 GB space left -- 2 GB memory.

I use 5 different emails on my computer. My main one STARTS with a "W."
Until recently all outgoing emails always showed as coming from my main one, "W..."
About a month ago I realized they were always being sent from the one starting with a "C". It automatically selects the one to show alphabetically!

I can GO in (if I remember) every time I send an email, and change the sent from to read the "W..." email, but I want it to be the default.

How can I change the default on the 'sent from' ??
