Solve : Nvidia ForceWare issue? |
Answer» HI all, I was looking for another way to squeeze more performance from my gaming rig's (soon to be upgraded) Nvidia Geforce 7800 GTX 512, by updating the driver. I had gone to see what new Forceware DRIVERS were released, and when I CHECKED if they supported my card, it wasn't listed. However the Nvidia Geforce 7800 GTX is listed... Would the driver be compatible with my card, even when the website does not list my card exactly? (By the way, the card's driver version is 91.31)Version 93.71 supports your card. http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_93.71.htmlThanks. Should I also just try to see if ForceWare 190.xx merely works? |

Solve : How to make Music CD function in a CD player? |
Answer» Hello everyone, I have tried every possible way to burn, but not luck. Have you tried it in a box? have you tried it behind some rocks? Can you burn it on a train? Can you burn it on a plane? But seriously we need more info on your machine/software configuration...And: what software are you using for burning the CD's?I just you have BURNT your cd in as a data cd. that will surely wouldn't be READ by your ORDINARY cd players. there is a good player now that has data reading functionality. get it and you'll surely be ABLE to enjoy your cd. Are you using CD-R disks?I suspect it's the format he's choosing to burn them in that is the issue...I would just use Windows Media Player to burn your audio CD's. At least, that's what I've done before and no problem at all. If Windows Media Player is able to playback the music file you wish to burn, then it should be able to burn it onto a CD-R. |

Answer» I recently upgraded to Office 2007 and I am trying to import my old .PST file. landa321, when you tried to import, did you select "Import a file from another program or file" from the list of import sources? Did you follow the procedure outlined at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HP030737381033.aspx?He doesn't need to import anything. That may be true but I believe an import is the normal procedure for transferring Outlook data from one computer to another. Solve : Opening external hard drives in cmd.? |

Answer» Hi. While attempting to get rid of a virus, I think I accidentally deleted NECESSARY files. Now I can only run my XP in safemode with command prompt. when I did copy, It only copied the files, and not the directories in my music directory. I have lots of subdirectories of all the ARTISTS in my music FOLDER, and it would take forever to do them ONE at a time (only ...music\song.mp3 copied, when I need ...music\artist\song.mp3). How do you copy the directories and all their files? Sorry if I don't make much sense, I'm new to using command prompt. Thanks!I really don't follow your post too well, but why not just do a repair INSTALL of XP? |

Solve : recovery software for formatted drive? |
Answer» HI need help with my problem, the case is i formatted my hard disk drive. and i kinda forgot to back up my files. i wanna recover them. i tried scavenger but that didnt work i only supported deleted files. also wondering the difference in recovering files from both fat and ntfs drives. using windows vista.can you please help me with my problem.hope you can...THANKS alot.Chances are slim. Try here: http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/2008/01/24/top-10-free-data-recovery-software/if its formattedd you have no chance without spending big $$$ for professional software because formatting actually all traces of the files is eraseBest tool for recovering data from formatted drive is: Ontrack EasyRecovery Professional Also if you need to recover data from DAMAGED cd/floppy, then try http://www.softeza.com/datarecovery/I realize this is an older post, but just to correct something.... formatting does not ERASE all traces of anything. It simply deletes the master file table. All files remain on the disc, but the system no longer sees them. THUS, the data can be recovered relatively easily as LONG as nothing has been overwritten. |

Solve : Uninstall trial windows 2007 without uninstalling full version? |
Answer» I bought a Trial version of Word 2007 about a year ago. I later upgraded over the PHONE to the full version. For the sake of saving space, I tried to delete the trial version only but my full version was taken away with it. I have no problem with RELOADING bother versions. The problem is that I want to take out only the trial. Is that possible or do they have to leave together?UNLESS disk space is really limited for you, just leave them both in.I really do need the space. Otherwise try other options for freeing up HDD space, or purchase a new HDD, they aren't that expensive anymore. And if they get any CHEAPER that will come in every third box of Frosted Flakes breakfast cereal. On www.eBay.com search hard hard drives under $25 including USA shipping. Answer» I have read that having more than one anti-virus/mal/SPYWARE, etc. running at the same time isn't good. At this point, I have Windows Defender, AVG-free, Windows Firewall, and Registry Mechanic running. My e-mail provider also uses Barracuda. Do I need all of these? Which are best choices? Thanks!Lets start by getting rid of some stuff, windows defender isnt that good from what I hear. Not sure what antivirus you have but I would get Avast its a good strong free anti-virus. Not sure what antivirus you have....He has: Quote from: tnkgrammy on September 07, 2009, 05:19:53 AM AVG-freeQuote from: tnkgrammy on September 07, 2009, 05:19:53 AM I have read that having more than one anti-virus/mal/spyware, etc. running at the same time isn't good. At this point, I have Windows Defender, AVG-free, Windows Firewall, and Registry Mechanic running. My e-mail provider also uses Barracuda. Do I need all of these? Which are best choices? Thanks!I see no major problem with sticking with what you have. But, I would probably drop Registry Mechanic and use CCleaner for registry cleaning. CCleaner is very safe; more aggressive registry cleaners, like Registry Mechanic, can sometimes be too aggressive in removing registry entries and then cause problems. I'll second sqaull_01's suggestion of getting Malwarebytes. what makes you think that its a GUY? The only thing I seen was windows defender that some dont like here. Avast is slightly better but AVG is user friendlySquall, I think you should stick to criticizing other people's ideas instead of coming up with them on your own. Quote I have read that having more than one anti-virus/mal/spyware, etc. running at the same time isn't good. You are indeed right there. At this point, I have Windows Defender, AVG-free, Windows Firewall, and Registry Mechanic running. My e-mail provider also uses Barracuda. Do I need all of these? Which are best choices? Thanks!Okay, you're getting a lot of input here and some of it is even relevant to your question, but not all of it is good. So let's start at the beginning. 1) As Carbon Dudeoxide said, just one av is all you want. 2) You should not use ANY registry cleaners, including Registry Mechanic or ccleaner 3) I'm not a fan of Windows Defender for a number of reasons (I used it for more than a year on a number of systems and was never crazy about it). Instead I'd recommend weekly scans with Malware Bytes or Super AntiSpyware. Also download and install Spyware Blaster and update it weekly. 4) I don't care what Anti Virus utility you use (as long as it's not McAfee), but you must make sure it is ALWAYS resident and is set to automatically download the latest definitions at least daily. 5) Windows Firewall is fine. And if you use a router that's even better (combined with Windows Firewall). 6) Most important of all - practice smart computing. Know what sites you visit, never open emails unless you know the sender, never open email attachments unless you know for sure what they are, never provide anyone with your PASSWORDS or system username, etc. Quote from: patio on September 07, 2009, 02:09:58 PM No...it isn't. I must of missed that, I'm used too seeing that username. It still says grannyNice job ADG... squall: Quote tnkgrammy It's at the top of the page... Quote It still says grannyNo...it doesn't.I've never heard of a single problem with ccleaner, have you had any ADG? Windows (XP) firewall didn't block outgoing traffic, I'm not sure if that's still the case but if it is I wouldn't recommend it for that reason.I've never heard of a single problem with ccleaner, have you had any ADG? Not in the way you mean, no. But it does offer the option to delete FONTS, applications, help files, cookies, index.dat, etc. Inexperienced users may not want cookies or the index.dat deleted and may, accidentally, delete things they didn't mean to. IMO there is no reason to use ccleaner. It's easy enough to delete temp files, etc manually. Windows (XP) firewall didn't block outgoing traffic, I'm not sure if that's still the case but if it is I wouldn't recommend it for that reason. I do recommend it. Personally, I don't care that it doesn't block outgoing traffic (what is it I should be concerned with here?) and it does a fine job at blocking incoming threats. AND it's free, it's built in to the OS, and it's easy to use. And as I said, when combined with a router it's almost perfect Quote from: Fed on September 07, 2009, 02:53:11 PM I've never heard of a single problem with ccleaner, have you had any ADG? Not sure where your getting that there is I run Avast!, TeaTimer (Part of Spybot S&D), Windows Firewall/Defender and I have an inbuilt firewall on my router. Thats all I use and need. |

Solve : dual boot gone bad? |
Answer» Ok, so after making a ubuntu cd and trying ubuntu out on it, I decided it would be a good idea to try and dual boot my old laptop with windows xp home edition and ubuntu 9.04. First i tried to partition the hard drive, but that did not work, so i researched it and decided to use wubi instead. I went through that process and put aside 6 gigabytes for ubuntu to run off of. The process went well, and for a while both systems WORKED together. After awhile, though, windows would not run untill I did like a "clean disk process?" or something. I believe it erased something important to the ubuntu booting system, because now ubuntu will not run, it only goes to a shell, and when i select windows to run, it only restarts the computer and displays the "chose which operating system to run" window again, making it run in a continuous circle. I am only able to post this because i am using the ubuntu cd that i made earlier. It is my goal to have ubuntu off the computer and to have windows back running again. could someone please help? i promise to never mess with this sort of thing again... any advice would be much appreciated. Also is there any way to do this without the windows cd? i lost mine.. thanksBefore you install Ubuntu, or any other OS, you should have some kind of back up that is something other that the same hard drive. |

Solve : Buying tower, will I be able to load windows?? |
Answer» Hi all, Do you mean will you be able to install Windows from your existing Windows CD? Yes, of course. Not sure why you might think otherwise. That is, IMO, not good advice. Here us what may help. A retail version of Windows XP has to be registered on line with MS. Now if it has already been registered with another motherboard you will get a message to the effect that you can not register automatically. You have to call the support number and explain what your are doing. The support person may speak eastern English. Quote from: Geek-9pm on September 07, 2009, 06:36:25 PM
Geek- that's not entirely accurate. you could change the motherboard three times before it stopped activating. Besides, what are you suggesting? they buy a new copy just to avoid POSSIBLY talking to somebody with an accent? Quote Besides, what are you suggesting? they buy a new copy just to avoid possibly talking to somebody with an accent? No, I would not suggest that. Ask Microsoft if that is what they expect. |

I still find it quite cumbersome, but at least I can now do wav and mp3. - BTW I use Windows. #2: daft question: compressed is the same as zip, is it? Do the buyers of my material have to have unzip / de-compress software? SEE, I want to make it as easy as I possibly can for them. Thanks again. Quote from: henner on September 05, 2009, 02:50:36 AM #2: daft question: compressed is the same as zip, is it? No it is not. Not daft question, smeezekitty is right; For sound files, mp3 is a compressed format; wav is not; 30 minutes mp3 stereo at 192 kbps is around 40 MB; 30 mins wav is around 300 MB. wav is a totally pointless format for web distribution. With spoken material you could use a much lower bitrate than 192 kbps and maybe mono and get even smaller mp3 files. No point in compressing mp3 files in a zip archive, as not much size REDUCTION is possible if files are already compressed. Thank you Salmon Trout; you took a weight off my shoulders! You might be able to answer my second question: I will put a downloadable / printable book for sale on the internet. It's about 1Mb PDF. Zip or not? Bearing in mind that I want to make it as easy as I possible can for the buyer. Thanks in advance.Using maximum zip compression in WinRAR, I did a test for you (you could have done this yourself!) Code: [Select]26/07/2008 19:56 1,968,333 mg_barcelona.pdf 07/09/2009 10:08 1,937,667 mg_barcelona.zip So not much. PDF files are like mp3, wmv, mpeg, and jpg files; already compressed, so that no compression algorithm can find any big savings to make. I even downloaded a "free" "pdf compression" program and the output file was 100% of the size of the original. So the answer is, don't bother; PDF format is already optimized for web distribution, and using zip will only INTRODUCE an un-needed step that your customers will have to take, making the process less easy, for no good reason. Once again thank you so much Salmon Trout; that's another weight off my shoulders - still a few more to go. |

Klite codec pack, set media player classic to open all your video files. divx player is bloated and not needed. reccomend you uninstall it. Klite codec pack is good. The codecs from the klite codec pack is supported by the Windows Media Player, if you prefer to use that. But if you want to be able to watch divx VIDEOS on websites, you'll need the divx web player, which you can download from this link. |

Solve : Downgrading SP3 to SP2 .? |
Answer» Umm , I read that I just gotta uninstall this bullcrap from Add or Remove Programs . After I run the uninstaller for SP3 , it gives me an error that it cannot find a SPECIFIC file to uninstall . My money is on you being infected prior to the install of SP3....+1 ^ Quote from: ADG on August 22, 2009, 09:42:42 AM Okay, but just upgrading to SP3 wouldn't cause that or you'd see everyone complaining. Something else is at work. Have you done full system scans with your AV and a good malware utility (such as MalwareBytes)? Hey look - it's your system - if you want to uninstall to SP2 that's your choice, but if it were me I wouldn't. Also, for future reference, before making any such major system change you should create an image of your system drive with a third party utility. Solve : Please help with this Issue of FastCache!? |
Answer» Hi Folks! So the problem is you cannot see the systemtray icon? & neither Iam able to access its 'Configuration Window' through the icon available within its Installation Directory. Its icon as well is a sort of 'Naked'.Just check-out the Screenshot. I can co-relate the looks of this icon with that to 'Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool'! [attachment deleted by admin]Hi all! I searched all the internet (!!!) to find someone who posted the same problem that I have here. Is the same thing happening here, the blank space, indicating the fastcache icon. In previous versions of fastcache I had no problems. But the curious is that I found a previous version of the program but the problem is happening again! I think the "naked" icon of the program .EXE is the cause of the problem. Someone know what can we do? Tnx a lot!Yes Yangson! You have landed onto a "Right Place"! I couldn't find the resolution & eventually I gave up! HOPE some angel will come in to Resolve this issue. However, though...I'll try it some other day...What you can do is "Try Installing this Program in the SAFE MODE"......perhaps this'll Click for you?![/b][/U] Quote from: yangson on August 21, 2009, 08:18:15 AM Hi all! You need to start your own thread for support yangson.I'm left wondering why FastCache was suggested in the first place...Hi all! I got the answer! To be honest its quite easy... Just get the previous version of fastcache! I searched something and found the address: http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,23249-order,1-page,1-c,alldownloads/description.html There is the link of the old version of fastcache. Just downloaded and I got it going with no problems now! The other thing I did here (I don't know if really worked in this case) is at the installer properties I disabled the visual themes. There is a background image, different from the newest version of fastcache, and the program was installed correctly. That's it! Tnx Saurabhdua for this topic! Hope you read it! Bye!Yes Yangson! Thanks for posting the Resolution! Nevertheless, you turned out to be that Angel...Great! There is something very similar between the last two posts... Anyone care to guess? Solve : Where did my command prompt go?? |
Answer» I know that the command prompt should be found in Accessories but it isn't there and I'm positive of that. I tried doing a computer search and didn't find it. I also checked all the other places in my start MENU and it is simply gone. Is there a keystroke I can use? What can I do to find it? What could be the issue? If this is a computer you are using at work or school/college, command prompt may have been disabled by the system admin. You could try Start, Run, cmd.exe. Thank you! I found it in my system32 folder. Now I can run as administrator. Thanks a lot for all the help.Quote from: smeezekitty on August 22, 2009, 11:31:33 PM heres how to get it back in accessories That worked. Thanks. Too bad what I needed it for didn't fix my other PROBLEM. I posted a question about that too. I can't get Adobe Photshop to install without errors. Solve : How can i combine .exe files?? |
Answer» How can i combine them to make one .exe file, allowing both .exe files to run simultaneously when you run it. I know i can make a batch file to automatically open both of them. I just want one .exe file instead of two.I don't think what you're asking for is possible. I want to combine the files so when u click setup and it asks you for permission the other .exe gets access as well. Is this desirable? Sounds like a way of creating malware. I think you misread the question, Smeezekitty. Shrshr429 wants to combine the two executable - which is not possible. Shrshr429, is it too hard to right click and Run As Administrator?IF there is no way of combining the .exe files. Do you guys know how to ask uac for permission. The reason i am asking is because i made the other .exe file autorun off the cd but it doesn't even come out to ask for permission it just doesn't run. Is there anyway to make the .exe file ask uac for permission to run. What is the EXE?A batch file that i converted in an .exe.Its a very simple batch file, it just copies some pdf files from the cd on the. Mostly instructions on how to install.Very simple, trying to get a program .exe or a batch file to autorun off a cd. Ask for permission or not. As long as it runs. Its not a virus or malware so i don't care if it asks for permission. For me, SOMETHING does not add up. If it's "just a simple batch file", that "just copies some pdf files", why did you bother to CONVERT it to an .exe? What is the point? Especially if you have to go through all these shenanigans.So...whenever the CD is put into a machine, a bunch of PDF files are copied to the computer? You're right Salmon Trout, I smell a virus. you can make an exe that runs the files but you cant combine the exes it just doesnt work that way |

Solve : Errors installing Adobe Photoshop? |
Answer» Everytime I try to install Photoshop CS3 or 4, my computer fails to accomplish the task. It always fails to install both the Photoshop program and Adobe AIR. It says, "Error 1603," when I try CS4 and simply says, failed to install for CS3. I've heard that it could have something to do with certain programs so I uninstalled everything that wasn't necessary. Then I removed extra space on the hardrive so I have plenty of room. I cleaned the registry and temporary folders with multiple programs and made SURE to remove all Adobe files other than Reader and the Media Player. I restarted the computer. I even used the task manager to shut down any unnecessary tasks before INSTALLING. It still won't work. Can anyone help? |
