Not sure how to explain this, but what I want to do is be able to LINK one FOLDER to ANOTHER, similiar to what a website does so the folders will link to the info in the "sub" folder etc

MollyNot sure this is what you want but try it.  Right click on the folder for which you want to "link" and select Create SHORTCUT.  Then, PUT that shortcut in the folder from which you want to link to the other folder.  Does that accomplish what you want?

Some PDF forms can be filled in when viewed in Adobe Reader or Foxit Reader.  This depends on the permissions embedded in the PDF document by the creator.  For example, I just downloaded federal tax Form 1040.  I can open it with Foxit Reader (don't have Adobe Reader installed on this computer but it will work, too), fill in blanks, and save it with the entered data being retained.

Foxit let's you save it? Didn't know that. I know Adobe Reader (the free version) doesn't.

When I try to use a link, either in a site through my Mozilla Firefox 3 browser or through my Mozilla Thunderbird Email, the link "freezes". In order to complete the complete the link, I must first cancel my initial effort and then re-try. On the second effort the link promptly opens.

This doesn't happen all the time, but does ALMOST all the time.

I have identified no  "malware' through many searches and several programs.

Your help in eliminating this nuisance would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have any issues in any text Programs when typing ? ?The Internet connection is DLS, provided by Surewest.

The keyboard came with the computer, and is about one year old.I've had no problem with typing text.Have you checked the machine for a malware?

I had previously checked for malware using several programs including Surewest's Internet Security Suite, which is provided by Kaspersky (highly rated). I have also used ESET's online scanner, Immunet protection, ThreatFire, WinPatrol Plus and Malwarebytes' on occasion.

Whether this cured the double link problem remains to be seen.

More info on the procedure:

About once every 3 weeks I start getting this ANNOYING POP up asking me to compact my emails to save space. Space I have plenty and I don't need to compact.

Now my question is how do I disable this annoying pop up as I understand that it does this after I open Outlook Express 100 times that it triggers that compact pop up?

Is the pop-up is really related to your Outlook Express? There is also a possibility that malware manipulates your computer. Wait for an expert analyze your issue.That's normal for Outlook Express.  It will prompt you to allow it to compact messages every 100th time it's closed.  Just let it compact.  It's a good thing, so let it do the compacting.  Do not INTERRUPT this process once it's started.  I haven't been on OE for a couple of years but I remember getting that message.  Never did it though.  I assume it uses some kind of standard file compression.

Is there any downside?  Does it take longer to open older files, etc.?

Resently I've found a lot of system optimization products over the internet and a I need a opinion or a review which one to choose as they seem worthy.
Can SOMEONE advice me of a best affordable system optimizer to buy or may be a website with some review or relevant information, that would really be appreciated.

You can keep your system optimized with FREE tools, some of which you already have on your Windows system such as Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter.  And, there are some good freeware tools such as CCleaner, which I highly recommend.  Many technically-savvy computer users use a disk defragmenter other than one that comes with Windows, such as Auslogics Disk Defrag or Smart Defrag from IObit or the recently released Defraggler, from the same people that make CCleaner.Such software USUALLY is not as necessary as advertises say, in most cases everything can be done MANUALLY with a little time and dedication.
But still, if you are looking for some info or REVIEWS - just google it up, you'll get the basic idea. I remember one website I've looked through just for info: optimizer review

I was stupidly ADJUSTING the permission settings on one of my harddrives and can't seem to put it back to the way it was. Now everytime i want to access any files on it I get stopped at the folder and told that i don't have permission to access that folder, then I have to change the ownership of that folder. this seems to work but there's still some files that I'm getting denied access to. What I want to know is can I somehow reset or turn off the setting so that all files and folders will go back the way they were and will not need me to change ownership of each and every folder. I tried everything i can but nothing seems to work. PLEASE help as i have a lot of folders & files, some of which are quite important.

Just thought that I would add this little update. I've solved the above problem. wasn't that major/hard and now I feel pretty silly making this post However it was because of the above that I found this forum and will look forward to sticking with it. Is a good idea and looks like a great forum.
You might as well tell us how the problem got solved) I was GOING to offer a System Recovery if you have already tried to PLAY with permisions settings logged in as administratorYea I tried System Restore straight away. It didn't change the file permission though.
I'm pretty SURE all I had to do was to change permission to allow the user group "Everyone" to have full access.

This is for my sister-in-law. She has a desktop W/ Vista Home Basic. Yesterday she updated Security Shield for 2010. COMPUTER worked OK, then she shut it down. She started the computer today, and it ASKED for a password when it NORMALLY never does. She tried just hitting "Enter" - no luck. She tried Safe Mode - no luck. She called the Security Shield people - they said they could not help. Also called Microsoft - they gave her some things to look into, which she is trying but no luck so far. Her regular computer guy can't see her quickly. Is there anything else you can suggest? And why did this happen? I'd like to know so it won't happen to me. Thanks in ADVANCE.

Hey, I got this patch for a game that I just can't INSTALL, because the patch is set to a default directory and I INSTALLED the game on another PARTITION (The game should be installed in program files, C). Anyways, can I change the directory that the patch is set to find the game in ? I'm using windows vista if it helpsIt is had to understand what you what.

When you install the game, it should setup everything automatically.you could run the patch normally, and then copy the patch files over the files you have in the game folder.Wouldn't WORK if patch requires to be installed over the game and supports only STANDART path for the installation - it won't extract the files. That is actually strange because most normal game patches check the registry entries for the game you installed to know where exactly it is and install all the files where they are needed. If this happens it is either a crack(which i don't reccomend using) or the game installation didn't go right and the registry entires are for some reason lost.Copy the game folder to the default directory, install the patch, and copy it all back.

i have WINDOWS7 . recently i began experiencing problems with the mic.im able to record messages on the computer and play it back  {"start-accessories-SOUND recorder "}  but when i tried the echo123 service in skype , it didnt record anything i said! i can hear my friends perfectly well but they can't hear me at all!  i went to control PANEL,made sure nothin is in mute,checked the "microphone" box ....when i run the sound wizard TEST i get a message -others might not be able to hear you due to some error.. i have an aoutec head GEAR .iv also made sure the wires are connected.

My window media player can’t play the DVD. Every time I insert DVD, there’s an error displayed; “%1 is not a VALID Win32 application.”
This thing never occurs before and it just about a week ago I GOT this error. Somehow the DVD can be opened in another music player.
I wonder what’s wrong with my window media player.

I don't think so.It was a laptop from our tech bench. It was destroyed because a customer DROPPED it and it's not worth putting money into it. So they said I could have the sticker. So the sticker has that product key and you can use it as long as you get the right software that they key was meant for?

Well, as for getting a free copy of windows 7 off the net, you can try the Microsoft 90 day Windows 7 Enterprise trial. Maybe you can somehow convert the trial into a full version?

My bro removed some software he thought he didnt need and doesn't remember what he did. Now some things aren't working like the internet, and sound when HEADPHONES are in. Someone said to use a recovery disk that came with the laptop but he doesn't have one.

Stop if the unit beeps or when the TOSHIBA logo disappears. The screen should flash ** HDD RECOVERY MODE ** for a split SECOND, then load the Toshiba recovery program right from the hard drive.

My INTERNET ACCESS is kind of limited at the moment so am wanting one that doesn't require internet access to use. although updateable would be FINE. I have downloaded a movie from torrentz. unfortunately, none of the players I have, can play this FILE.

when I take the mouse over it,  it's been described as

vlc media file (.avi)

If it is an avi format file then it must be played by VLC player. but Its something different.

I have tried with

I've been all over the internet looking for an easy SOLUTION to upgrading my graphics card.  I don't WANT to do something and MAKE problems which seems to happen sometimes but everything I've been reading about it seems real complicated so maybe I'll just let it go unless there's any easier way.OK how about giving some computer specs?

I USED to have this Dolby HEADPHONE PLUGIN for the now obsolete Musicmatch Jukebox called Lake PLS, which I remember using back in 2002 or so.

Bought  two 2 PCs  "Acer aspire M1202 win vista"  . Do I have to make a system recovery cd ( 4 DVDs) for each PC or one set is good for both? If the hardware is identical you can get away with one, but I strongly urge you to use disk imaging software on each system on a regular basis. You can save the images to cd or, as I do, to separate hd's.They are identical  PC. So i guess i can get away with one !
What is the best software to make a disk imaging ? I'm a big fan of Acronis True Image, but it isn't free. Before I upgrade to windows 7, i was USING vista and my autocad 2010 works fine without a flaw. Now, while im using windows 7, it START to hang my whole computer, lags while im using it. I've set to vista mode but it still hangs.

I installed the DivX web player & video comes out green. I installed the video display problem component of the all in one fix and it's still green. I uninstalled the programs I thought might have CONFLICTING filters & unsurprisingly... It's still green. If someone could HELP me out it would be greatly appreciated. can i re-install it with the oem wordperfect productivity pack disc that came with my pc ?
if so, do i put it in the cd drive and will it AUTOMATICALLY re-install ?

He tried system restore but nothing has happened and he has no more restore points or backups.

Hi, hoping some one can help me, i got the windows 7 upgrade pack at the weekend and so far so good. However, being a little bit silly, i thought i may be able to install on a second machine so went about removing the files it asked me to uninstall at the compatibility part which included hp quick launch buttons 6.40 d3, ati catalyst install MANAGER and control center. Luckily i noticed before i started the upgrade and cancelled the upgrade but i have already removed the files. How do i go about REINSTALLING the quick launch and ati programmes (also need to reinstall ati on upgraded machine)

yeah i only noticed that before installing.. i just removed the ati catalyst intall manager and control center before i noticed. I just want to reinstall these on both machines..

The ATI software should re-install on both machines with no issues...however Win7 is another ball of WAX.

I was in the middle of MAKING SOMETHING in photoshop when it crashed.
I can still see EVERYTHING, but it wont let me click anything or let me minimize or close it.

Stupidly, I haven't saved the work and I don't want to close it through task manager.
Can ANYONE HELP me save my work?

I am having trouble burning music CD's,every time I try it,I get this message to check if disc is dirty,damaged,try a New brand of disc,and recording speed needs to be slower. What is the best program to make a slideshow/video montage?  I have been using windows movie maker, it's great except I can't fade my music when I WANT to change songs.  I want a program where I can smoothly change the music when I am changing the theme of my pictures.  Got any ideas? Well - not a free app I am afraid but I use Serif Movie Plus X3 for all my vid work and that has provision for tweaking sound easily.  You can adjust fades in audio track and add another audio track (or more) - again with options for fades.

Serif.com is worth a look and if you GET the app I'll all but guarantee you'll like it and use it for other stuff too.  Good for MOVIES but also works well for still pic slide shows as well.Thanks for the reply Chris.
I figured it out though. You just have to right click on the track and select fade in or out from the menu. It was so easy, I'm surprised I didn't notice it EARLIER. Haha - one of those ''I just found it'' deals!!  Glad it does the trick.

Must say tho - if you want a pretty darned good vid editor do check out the Serif deal... it GIVES a lot of options that Win MM almost certainly doesn't.

Hiya, well I just got a new laptop and I've been trying to INSTALL Adobe flash and shockwave PLAYER. Basicly it doesn't even give me an error message, all it does is is bring me the same page other and other again. I just keep clicking "Agree and install now" and it keep loading the same page. Active X is already enabled, I've tried the debugger, and uninstalled the version it says I already have. (In add and remove progams it says "Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX" Or something close to that.) But YouTube won't load, my email won't load unless I use the basic HTML, basicly anything that needs flash won't load. Nothing working, I've looked at it on my roomate's compter and I've noticed that it doesn't even give me the "install google toolbar" Thanks in advance.

I see your using windows vista. One thing you should consider is if it is a 64 bit or a 32 bit. Then go to the site and enter the required information into the BOX. Then go to my documents. Click the icon with the arrow coming out of the folder once. Then go into the "downloads" section, find the installer, and run it. Hope my advice helps you.
On a side note, 220GB is how data your hard drive HOLDS, average computers today only come with maybe 1 or 2GB of RAM.
On another side note, and this is just an extra CHECK if you want, go to driver agent.com and get a free system scan. Then, if any errors appear, just paste the report with your pc model here and I will find the drivers for you.cintari

When importing any .avi video (I've tried 4 different files) they are imported as audio only. This is a problem as I'd rather not find a CONVERTER right now (internet is capped) and I need this DONE soon. I've FOUND that .mpg files work well. So I'm not sure what the problem is. The .avi files themselves are fine in media players. Has someone had this same problem and what can be done to fix this?
Thanks.I would recommend "any video converter". It's a free program that can convert multiple movie files at once. As far as your import problem is concerned, I need to know a little bit more about what your trying to use the files for. For EXAMPLES, if you are using them in a power point PRESENTATION, you would need to convert them to .wmv format so they would play. Hope my advice helped.

I have some OLD floppy discs with FILES that were made on my old IBM 486 with Wordperfect.  I am not sure as to what version it is but the version had to be from around 1994.  I do have floppy drives in my 4 year old computer that is showing signs of being on its last legs.  Yesterday I bought a new Asus that, of course, doesn't have floppy drives, so I would like to open these Wordperfect files on the old computer, convert them to Word and then save them to my external hard drive before this computer totally crashes on me.  Does anyone out there have any IDEA how I can go about this PROJECT?What version of Office do you have ? ?Office 1997.  I know it is an old version but I really haven't needed anything more than that.  Thanks for your quick response. For that i use IMGBURN...still Free i believe.i downloaded a program called iso burner and in my files it has a pic. of a cd and says iso imageLike Patio said, you need to 'convert' that ISO file into a readable-by-the-computer file by using a program like he suggested.  I use AShampoo Burning Studio 2007 to burn my ISO files.

The microsoft.com link although is not specifically talking about the office 2007, it talks about "program too big to fit in memory issue" as does other link."program too big to fit in memory" is a DOS error...

are you trying to run this on win 9x?im not really sure what that is i dont know much about computers but i have xp and.. well thas about all i kno lolI requested additional downloads so that i can download it again and see if thats the problem but it might take a couple of days to get themi downloaded the program again and haven't put it on a cd, when i clicked launch install at the end of the download process, it said the same thing, program to big to fit in memory only this time it doesn't go away as fast, does this mean i am still going to have problems with it or should i make the iso image and make the cd ANYWAY and try it?

I have a word document. In the MENU bar I've 'ADOBE PDF'. On CLICKING on 'Adobe PDF' I can see an ITEM 'Convert to Adobe PDF'. On selecting this item, I'm asked to save the 'PDF' file but after a few moments my word document closes and the PDF file is also not created.

I have had an ongoing problem with printing purchased patterns at:www.printsew.com which is really annoying.  I am attaching the messages below.  I can log-in, contact tech support, browse the catalog with no problem.  However, if I try to print a pattern, I am refused (see messages).  I have to request permission every time.  I'm not talking about the "One-time Authentication" for a new pattern.  This happens even when the pattern has been printed before. I have asked Tech-Support" what I need to disable, plug-in, add-on, remove in order to access the print function.  To date, no answer.  I was informed this week that the bar to my printing had been removed.  Today, I cannot print.  I have an e-machine, Xp-home (32-bit), and have tried every browser I can find.  Does anyone have a suggestion?  If this is a double post, I apologize, but I could not find the previous message, which was refused as the attachments were too large.  Cordially, but again confused,  Nehmah  PS: Have asked others who use the system, and they don't have this problem.  N
