I was WONDERING if Access had some type of networking software/add in you had to INSTALL to be able to access it on a network.  I didn't THINK there was, until someone mentioned it because theres wasn't working.  I still don't think it is, but I'm asking just to MAKE sure.  THANKS ahead of time

I had to go to the control panel and pull up about , When it stated Verify your Java Version! I REMEMBERED the coffe cup icon in there and that's where I found this...Here's what I found:

So Assuming this is what version I have and it must be reall outdated after seening the date 2004...The current version of Java is Jave 6 Update 13. You most likely need to update it.

Hello everyone, I have about 22,000 files that I have to copy to CDs and an external hard drive. The file names are no longer than 132 characters, including the path name and they aren't nested. I've tried XCOPY and ROBOCOPY and although the file names aren't truncated, they both would not copy all of the files. Has anyone every used Rich Copy 4.0? I'm trying to use it, but I keep getting errors, such as "The SYSTEM cannot find the specified path". I have been unable to locate a user manual or a listing of error codes. I'm trying to figure out the correct syntax to use for the source and destination paths.  I'm using a Dell Precision 490 computer with Window XP SP3 on it.  Please help. Thanks! 

I think you might be hitting a filesystem limitation here.  I've come across this kind of thing before, on XP and Vista.  What are the underlying filesystems?  FAT32 or NTFS?Hi Rob, the underlying file system is NTFS.  I'm a beginner when it COMES to DOS commands and syntax structure.  When I used ROBOCOPY it only copied half of the files to an external drive, which is about 11,000, before it went into a loop on this one particular file and I got the following error message:

I didn't know how to stop it from retrying to copy the same file, so I just closed the screen.  I read about changing the time intervals for retries, but what I tried didn't work.  Can you show me the correct syntax to deal with this error, so that ROBOCOPY will try maybe 2 times and then GO on to the next file to copy.  I found Microsoft Rich Copy 4.0 Utility and thought it would be easier since it's GUI, but I don't know the correct syntax to use it because I kept getting "The system cannot find the specified path" error.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. what should i do PLZ help........ Have you tried looking at it in the start then all programs?You could also try the search option in your Windows start menu.
Just delete all the files that are still left on your computer.

OR USE software for fully uninstalling, I'm not sure if there's any program that's free, but you could try to google it.

Ok well I found out the other day one of my arch rivals who is a known thief figured out how to use a password reset disc. Well now I am worried he may try to steal my COMPUTER and reset the password. I have passworded my bios at boot time and have multiple operating systems to help confuse him. But I am wondering isnt there ANY way to keep him from being able to use this cd on windows? I know I changed the aolgorithm from LM to NTLMv2 to make cracking alot harder aswell. But I am just WANDERING there has to be a way to make the sam file read only or block an attempted reset of it right? Isnt there an alternative to using the SAM file or maybe change its method of passworiding to block this security threat from being allowed. I also installed a backdoor incase he ever managed to get pas all of that  then I could track his activities. Um lastly is there and good software that when run requires its own password to continue using windows further. I want to include it in the system bootup to make it a second login SCREEN. If you have a BIOS password, the password will need to be entered before booting, or changing boot options. which brings up the CD-drive, you can remove it as a bootable device in the BIOS. Of course, the BIOS can be reset using a jumper or removing the battery, but since this requires physical access to the motherboard, you can simply lock the case shut. Since they could them simply cart off the whole thing, bolt it down.

Hi, im new to excel 2007. I have clues, but no ideas. lol. i hope somebody knows what to do here. I am making a job application search log and in one column i have 'date resume submitted' where all i put is the date of the day i apply somewhere. in the column just next to it i have 'days out' whereas i have a DATEIF code which displays year, month day of how long its been since i faxed/emailed/communicated with the potential employer. currently i have a formula that once i put the date into the j column(date resume submitted), it will automatically start calculating ages. So lets say the next day or even 2 weeks later, i enter this worksheet, it will tell me exactly how many days or months it has been since the date i applied for that company. heres my dilemma. everytime i place a new job into this worksheet, i have to tell the 'days out' DATEIF formula exactly where the date is sitting. its awfully annoying. i cant figure out how to just formulatize the entire column to automatically look for a date just one column over. argh

As for spywares, it's a good idea to download, and install these two:

Run occasional scans.

Personally, I've never seen Windows Defender catching anything. IMHO, waste of time.

Hi!  Whenever I start Photoshop/Adobe reader, the updater application screen pops up.  It's so annoying.  I did try to go to the location it specifies like C:/PROGRAM files/common files... to remove the updater.exe file, but the same CASE still happens with the MESSAGE like "Updater fail to run, pls install again". 
How can it be fixed?  I SIMPLY don't want the screen to ask me for update EVERY time I run the Adobe product.
 Don't delete the file! That will corrupt the whole program.

Go back to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Updater6\ and double click Adobe_Updater.exe.
A window will open and the program will start checking for updates for all your Adobe Software installed. When finished, click Preferences. A window will open where you can uncheck "Automatically check for Adobe Updates", or else just change the updating periods.

Updating is a good thing, though, and it should be left on.

I recently bought a new computer and I have PHOTOSHOP and Dreamweaver on my old machine that I'd like to put on my new machine.  I don't have the install disks any longer.   

Is there a WAY to transfer the actual programs in addition to the FILES on my old computers hard drive?  I have a belkin easy trasfer cable for the files, but from what I understand, the programs themselves will not be transfered.

Programs need to be INSTALLED in order to run properly...they simply cannot be copied from one install to another and expect to work.

Are these "ahem" versions of the programs ? ?Thanks Patio.  I'm sure I will be able to "find" those disks somewhere.  The ones on my old computer are LEGIT, the computer was given to me with all of the programs already installed.

I've made sure that they aren't shared anymore.
But now the FOLDERS are still there when I click my computer.
How can I remove them?

What I would do sence the software is free is TRY opening it with openoffiic.org and see what it does. If it does OPEN you COULD always save it in a different format and open it in word or you could just USE openoffice.org instead. HOWEVER openoffice.org will convert the document to PDF. You can use OCR  Software which will help u .......

Hi, I use my main hotmail account for my email but lately I've been getting some seriously bad spam mail (8!!!) Messages a day, and they don't get filtered as the filter get's too confused and it's mainly bad spam...
 
These suckers must've been some super hackers because the addresses they're sent from, are complete gibberish! The sites and addresses don't  even exist, like; [email protected]  and [email protected] What the heck?
 
How can I stop this spam email?? I've tried blocking them but they just keep coming back, I've reported this to MS and Hotmail live TEAM, I'm not sure how I can block it, they come in with subjects like [email protected] and CIAL1$ 4 FREE and many of the time they come at 4 at a time...
 
Can anyone help? I can't add a filter in hotmail so I'm looking for a good mail client, but that's not my priority right now.
 
My question is WHY am I getting spam email from random addresses, (Why are they random email addresses? Thanks.. I appreciate your help guys.      As to the "why" there can be many reasons and are usually a consequence of your own interactions on the Internet. However as to how you can get rid of them in hotmail stop using that account. Create a new one with a different name and password. That will only be affective for an unknown period and will ultimately be SPAMMED also. How soon largely depends on your internet habits. If you want to provide a higher level of security you could use Outlook Express. When and if the spam level becomes a problem in OE then you go to your ISP and change the account number (changing the password will have limited effect--the account needs to be changed). Also with OE you can preempt your mail by downloading a free program called "Mail Washer" and have it receive all your OE e-mail and it is supposed to keep viruses from infecting your computer by isolating them within MW from which you have a variety of options including previewing them and deleting from MW. It has many other features as well. There may be other e-mail clients available that also can provide more security than a hot mail account. Having a hot mail account with a restricted amount of people knowing of it's existence will also help. As well you can exercise some influence by doing or not doing certain practices when using the internet. Your problem is universal and is basically impossible to totally eliminate it can only be controlled to a certain degree. truenorth

Excel has some severe limitations! I.E Cell reference from one Worksheet to the next.

Just got through installing a new ASUS motherboard and loading Windows XP x64 on it. It will not run Vista.

I'm still in the process of loading programs, but I decided it's TIME I get the firewall installation out of the way. I knew going into the whole x64 thing that there were few x64 firewall OPTIONS. But I also run and soon will be loading KASPERSKY Internet Security, which, of course has an option to run a firewall.

I say option because, in the past, when I ran the Kaspersky Firewall, I just didn't understand all of the options available when it is put in training mode. That's where you get to pick from a drop-down menu, the options for a service or program to connect, manually. I can't remeeber all of the options, but one of them was Web Browser, another was Custom. I always just chose "Any activity" but always wondered that by doing that, is the firewall secure enough. Your thoughts on that?

So in the meantime, at least until I get some repsonses to my post, I installed Comodo Firewall Pro 3.0. I've run it before, but when I did that Defense + part of it drove me crazy with alerts. So when I installed it this time I UNCHECKED the "Install Defense +" option. Problem is, when I rebooted after install, it showed that Defense + was installed anyway, So I started fooling around with settings and I think I've got it set now where it won't aler me me anymore, though I'm still not sure if it's turned off.

And the Comodo Pro is a nice firewall. There's no doubt about that. But I thought I knew the basics of a software firewall untill I ran it. To me, it's just a little too complicated. So I am thinking of uninstalling it and going with the Kaspersky Firewall.

Good choice on the OS, I'm a huge fan of it.
Firewalls . . . I liked Comodo when I used it although it did have a noticeable impact on my system and the alerts were annoying.
Other than that I've only used Sygate, which is great but outdated now.
A hardware firewall is always good thing to have for inbound defence, a software firewall will protect/restrict outbound traffic too and provide more inbound defence.

I try not to order Celeron processers for even office staff as having more than 3 excel sheets open tends to kill it.

I play World Of Warcraft, and whenever I hit caps lock, the indicator shows up, minimizing thr game, whitch is very frustrating. I'm running Vista Home Premium 32bit. I'm on a Dell Inspiron laptop, and whenever I go to the keyboard option in control panel, my only options are: Speed, Hardware, General, Driver. None of which have any related to turning off the indicator. I've also looked through thr guides that came with my laptop, and they were no help.
Any suggestions/solutions WOULD be appreciated.

Try and keep the answer as simple as possible, I'm sorta computer challanged  you might want to try the Capsunlock program, which BASICALLY allows you block the capslock key so that you won't accidentally trigger it when you PRESS the BUTTON accidentally.

you can undo the changes easily so you can restore the capslock to normal function when you want it.

im using adobe acrobat professional 7.0.5. and can´t create pdf documents.
everytime i try i get the error message "Missing PDFMaker files. Do you want to run the installer in repair MODE?". ive tried to run the repair option and i also tried to reinstall the whole program but nothing seems to work. the error message still pop-up.

Is anybody else using it?
It crashes on me during copy/paste. USUALLY after about 4 or 5 copy/pastes.

Our company database has been running for 15 years now, there is a separate front and back end both running on Access, we are looking to convert it from Access to SQL server, how do we go about it, what are the procedure/rules to be followed?Are you looking for a basic conversion or do you also have VBA scripts to consider that may break?

We converted from Access 97 to SQL and had tons of troubles and ended up having to REVERT back to Access 97 and have an outside CONSULTANT perform the migration which cost about $15k in the end. I believe the consultant had to export all the tables to SQL and then recreate the linking rules etc for the data, and properly construct sections that prior were band-aided with VBA scripts that used to control Access 97 with Visual Basic 6 control hooks.

This consultant was able to do this on alternate hardware so that the structure was able to be manually recreated with linked tables etc, and then when tests came up as good to go, he then just had to re-export access 97 tables back into SQL and the additional data up to that point was rolling into the new structure and we were able to go live with it that night and had an almost seamless transition the following day with only a few minor changes required that were missed that were not major. Users were amazed at how more quickly reports were generated under the SQL Database vs Access 97, big performance increase with querys and reporting.

Rules/Procedures: Be sure to backup the databases before making any changes to them to protect the integrity and also have the databases READY to run if you run into troubles like we did, so the company can function the next day if you pull an all nighter like we did in which we ended up having to pull the plug at 3am and revert back to the way that it worked under Access 97 and get outside help with a professional DB Engineer who was fluent in Access and SQL migration 3 weeks later.

Hey I'm not really good when it comes to this so would anyone who knows please try to explain what the error is.

My msn kind of hangs up alot and I have to end the process manually..this is really annoying and I was wondering what might be causing this?From my experience I really always hated MSN because of being such a sloppybloat program which forms conflicts with other programs quite a lot. Hence I use pidgin as my IM client.

What version are you using btw?

You could always try re-installing MSN (of course after removing the original MSN FIRST completely), and seeing if that eases up the situation.

Doesn't support multiple messengers like Pidgin does, but it supports MSN MESSENGER better than Pidgin does. I have the CODEC Pack K Lite Mega Pack and I also installed the Media Player Classic Home.

All PLAYS good and works good but ONE thing I cant do.

I go to the VUE Tab and then click on PLAYLIST.
And the Playlist open next to the Media Player.

The Playlist is empty now so I click on the File Tab on the Media Player and then Open.

And I ad Files to the Playlist.

But I don't see ware to click to Save it??

I do go back to the Media Player File Tab and the Save AS Tab is Grayed out.

And the Playlist window is just a blank window for adding Files.

Please HELP??

I got a Kodak Easy Share M893. It puts the videos OUTPUT files in Quicktime. How can i put then Window Movie maker? It won't let me USE Quicktime. I have look have don't see how to change in on the camera.Can you not save the files from your camera to a document then GO into Movie maker and click on 'import media' then find the file you saved them in and import them. Hi everybody,

Hope that somebody can help with a video playback problem that I’m having.

Basically, upon inserting a DVD movie disc into the drive, it doesn’t play and the following message comes up:

Error:
Playback Failure: DVDRead could not open disc “E”.
Your input can’t be opened: Unable to open the MRL “dvd:” //E:”.
Check log for details.[/b]

However, although the disc won’t auto-play upon insertion as it used to, by going into MY COMPUTER, the drive can see the disc and I’m able to browse it and see the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders on it.
Opening the VIDEO_TS folder, I am then able to play each of the video files but individually.

Below is a list of what I’ve tried so far to fix the problem, in no particular order, but all to no effect:

1 - System Restore
2 - Software Removal
3 - Full Anti-Virus and Malware Scans
4 - Full uninstallation and re-installation of problem video player
5 - Thorough clean of inside of computer and checking of drive and     
      usb cables

Would really appreciate your thoughts and suggestions re. the above problem.

By "default player",are you asking me about the player that I'm using and with which I'm having the problem? If so,it's VLC.                     

However,I don't have this problem with my other player, Media Player Classic! This player will at least play discs although it too isn't functioning as it should.

It turns out that of my two DVD drives,only my DVD/CD-RW Drive(E:)
actually sees discs and will play them but with Media Player Classic
only.

My DVD-RAM Drive (F:),however,neither sees nor plays the discs at all!

One of these may help:
1. Uninstall the drive through Device Manager.
Restart computer. The drive will be automatically reinstalled.

Double click on cdgone.zip to unzip it.
Right click on cdgone.reg, click Merge.
Accept registry merge.
Restart computer.

4. GO to Device Manager, click a "+" sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
You'll see two items:
- ATA Channel0 (or Primary Channel)
- ATA Channel1 (or Secondary Channel)
Right click on each of them, and click Uninstall. Confirm.

Of the four recommendations that you mentioned in your last post,I
opted to begin with the last,namely,the Primary/Secondary Channel
Uninstall.This appears to have solved the "problem"!Let me explain!

Prior to the sudden appearance of my video player problem,I would
insert a disc into either of my two drives and VLC would automatically
open and play the disc without any problems whatsoever.After the
problem appeared,however,VLC would still open automatically but
wouldn't play discs and would give the error message mentioned in my
initial post.

What's happening now - post Primary/Secondary Channel Uninstall - is
exactly the same.I'm still getting the same VLC error message upon disc
insertion but - and I came across this purely by accident - by going
into VLC's task bar > Media > Open Disc > Disc Device F:\,
DISCS WILL PLAY!Result!!

The important point here is that I had to change the Disc Device manually
before VLC would play.Shouldn't VLC be able to see the drive in which the
disc is inserted and then adjust the Disc Device automatically rather than
my having to do this manually!?Is this a configuration or settings issue?
Would appreciate your feedback as to how I might go about correcting this.

As I mentioned above,this is very different from how VLC used to open and
this is what threw me.

I just Downloaded Gparted and I was going to BURN it to a CD.

But I see all of these things on the net that say don't Cut and Past the iSO File to a CD and use windows to  Writ Data to Disk.

Use a iSO Burning program.

Why and can I use windows just to Burn the File it worked with all my other Files???HERE is a good overview of ISO files, and what makes them different from regular data files.The reason, as far as I see is that, people make the mistake of treating the files with the ISO extension (e.g., files with names like "example.ISO") as just a file (like those you associate with word documents (doc files), a jpeg image (jpg file), etc), and write it to CD.

Any decent CD-burner software will have a special menu selection for writing an ISO file to CD. By writing ISO properly to a CD (or whatever media the ISO is intended for), your disk will be able to autoplay/play like intended. Else, you'll be stuck with a disk that only has one file that cannot be booted into upon pc startup (which is what I THINK you wanted -- after all, there is the gparted Live CD)

ISO is a special file that includes all the data of files contained on the archived CD/DVD, or any other disc format.

Burning ISO to a cd or dvd is something you can not do with windows vista or earlier windows without a THIRD party software. If you have one of those versions of windows, all you can do is to burn data files right to a cd which I think is what you meant when you said "it worked with all my other files", you probably most likely have been burning regular files.

Hi; Just got a new computer with outlook express part of the office suite that was downloaded on it.  There's no outlook as the office suite is the Home and Student 2007 version.  Apparently there is no upgrade available for this to go to the normal Office Suite which is why the H and S version is so inexpensive.  Ok, now, I just lost a job and they were kind enough to give me a cd rom with my contacts and addresses burned on it.  At the job I used Outlook. The contacts and addresses are .pst files.  As far as I can tell, Outlook Express doesn't RECOGNIZE or convert .pst files to Outlook Express files.  This is super important information.  Is there any way that anyone knows to make this work or do I have to purchase a full new Outlook 2007, which I obviously would rather not do?  Alternatively I would love to know if I COULD go to Microsoft and said you never told me you couldn't upgrade and I can't migrate my files now to Express.  Really is pretty awful predicament.

I also have a Mac desktop, newish.  If anyone knows how I can migrate the .pst files into Mac's email, e.g. iMail, I'd love to know that as an alternative. 

Please folks, this is a real and rather urgent need for ASSISTANCE as I need to advise PEOPLE I haven't died or worse and am doing business, albeit not quite the same way.
