I have a Word2000 file that contains a number of figures for a book that I am getting published. The figures that were copied into this file fitted into a A4 page so had a common width. However, some of them have expanded is size for some unknown (to me) reason. I can REDUCE them back to the proper size by highlighting the frame and then moving the right hand arrow. I then do that to the bottom arrow. I then SAVE the file. The next time I open it, these figures are enormous again. I have tried to find an alternative method on Help that works. I know I am missing something simple - but what?i think if you save it copies it , you have to " save as " and give it a new name or number then you will have 2

different sizes it works with photos , of course i may be wrong What PROGRAMME are you using to open the file?I have tried resizing the large and small figures and then 'save as' to a new file name.
When I downloaded that file I got the error message 'The DIMENSIONS after resizing are too small or too large' and many of the figures had become small or large again some of the figures disappeared when I change from Normal View to Print view. I save as .rtf rather than .docI am using Word2000 to open the file. I am PUZZLED in that the figures that are changing in size are also in a Word2000 file with the text of the book and I have had no problems with that file. The figures are the right size at each down load. Both files are .rtf I have just downloaded the renamed file. The error message came up twice, as usual. a number of figures were small, large or missing.

my dell laptop crashed and i had to get it FIXED. i got it back and now i just noticed that my Microsoft office 2007 is no longer installed. i bought my laptop with the program on it already. do i need to contact where I got it at? or is there a way to redownload it or something?Try a system restore to an earlier date, preferably the one just before the crash.

Should fix it I doubt system restore will work.

Sounds to me like they reformatted the laptop to "fix" it.

Of course they didn't REINSTALL Office...


This makes me wonder if they even installed a LEGITIMATE version of your OS.

Do you have a "system recovery" CD/DVD?

I CONNECTED an audio cable to the headphones jack on my tape PLAYER and connected the other end to the Line In port on the sound card in my COMPUTER.  Since both ends of this cable needed a male-type plug, I had to get an adapter.  Radio Shack is a good place to get UNUSUAL adapters and such things as extension cables, which you may need if your tape player is some distance from your computer.

To capture the recording on your computer, you can use Windows Media Player or some other audio software if you have any installed.  The last step would be to burn the music recordings to a CD.Many thanks for the advise

I made a .bat file that disconnects you from the internet, and i also made a vbscript that will make this file run in invisible mode. The problem is when vbscript RUNS automatically from a cd the location of the file changes so it doesnt work.

Heres an example, lets say i burn the .bat file and the vbscript on a cd.
When i make the vbscript i write the location of the .bat in cd drive D.
Now if i put the cd in cd drive E, the vbscript won't run.

Is there anyway to make the vbscript look for the .bat is any drive?
Or make it so the vbscript doesn't display the error when it doesn't find the .bat file?

In a .bat file i can write %CDROM% instead of the cd drive, is there something similar to that in vbscript.Why would you want something like this to run in invisible mode?So you wouldn't see it .........So in other words you want the good people here to help you make something that disconnects people from the internet with out their knowledge.

I maybe wrong here but I think that is a little bit outside of what the forum allows people to help with.Why do people on this forum always make things so difficult and in need of explanation? The people would obviously know they are disconnected from the internet. The cd just installs a FIREWALL onto your computer i thought it would be safe to make it disconnect your from the internet and reconnect you after the installation is over.

If you have several home computer sharing an internet connection you usually have a router.

I'm not sure what to do, but my MusicMatch Jukebox will not open up anymore and I'm not sure if it has to do with the programs my brother-in-law put on my computer recently causing this. Like MAYBE it somehow removed something it needs in order to work, and I wouldn't know what it is it needs or where to begin looking.
He installed things like Ccleaner, ATF Cleaner, Malwarebytes, updated Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-awawar SE Personal, Spywareblaster, CWshredder,

Problem is that I don't know how to get stuff from cd's onto my computer by using Windows Media Player, and I know how to do it using MusicMatch Jukebox. Does anyone know how to get the files from a cd onto the computer using Windows Media Player? Steps that I could follow?

Personally I would uninstall MusicMatch Jukebox and use something else like Media Monkey or Foobar.

Is this just MusicMatch Jukebox or is it the Yahoo! MusicMatch Jukebox?AmyR7, I have been a user of Music match juke box since it's inception.During that time it has occurred to me at least a half a dozen TIMES that the program caused an issue that required action. The action i always took was to completely uninstall whatever the version of Music match i was currently using and reinstall it. I even on occasion installed an older version of the program (because i liked the features of it over the one then most recent). This action always succeeded in having a working version of Music match. There are more commercial aspects to the program now as it is a component of Yahoo and no longer an independent company. If you like it i would suggest you follow my example.

You could do this with pretty much any CMS but it would take some time and expertise to set up and configure.  I don't know of any online offerings of this nature.

When I click on a URL in an OUTLOOK Email, an error msg pops up telling me that computer restrictions will not permit this action.  This only started recently.  Does ANYONE KNOW what this is all about?

if the library is designed for use with C++, it should include a Header file and a LIB.

for the lib file, you'll need to place it in your LIB directory, and #include the header.

VC6 has a project settings dialog where you would need to add it as well.I just recieved some info. It seems this library is only for C# or VB.Net.

Hi, a few years ago I upgraded my system and tried to simply boot the old hard drive on the new computer - this exercise failed miserably, and I could no longer boot the old drive even on the old hardware (though I could still access it from Bart PE and later on the new drive).  I then proceeded with the upgrade and did a fresh install on a new drive, leaving the old drive intact and loaded as a slave.

The reason I didn't reformat it was 1) laziness and 2) I had emails on it I wanted to preserve.  The reason I haven't done anything with it since is 1) laziness, 2) it wasn't critical, and 3) to some extent I forgot about the whole thing.

Today I decied to try to recover the emails.  The email client that I USED was Outlook Express.  I attempted to open the Outlook Express folder, where theoretically the emails should be stored, (drive:\documents and settings\username\application data\identities\{8494940489 etc}) but there is NOTHING there.  I enabled "VIEW HIDDEN files" and there is still nothing there.

I have done a full system scan for files ending in .dbx, .mbx, and .PST, and I'm getting absolutely zilch.  I had several hundred emails in Outlook Express; can anyone suggest an explanation as to where they went? or, more importantly, how to get them back?

However here is one you can try.Download a free e-mail PROGRAM called "Mailwasher". Prior to opening your e-mail client (OUTLOOK,outlook express,or whatever) open your "mailwasher". Do not open your normal e-mail client at this point. Mailwasher if left running scans at regular INTERVALS (3-5 mins i believe).The primary reason for the existence of Mailwasher is to allow e-mails to come into your computer and be non infectious within mailwasher to your computer. You will have options to "process" ,"delete","bounce",Blacklist" any of the e-mails that are in your mailwasher list. Any that are not checked for delete,bounce,or blacklist will when "process" is selected open in your default e-mail client. However the program also allows you to open the message and read it (may not allow attachments to be opened however--i,m not certain about that though). Until you allow "process" the e-mails are only within mailwasher. I could go into greater length as to the benefits of some of the other options but this is getting long.Their web site should explain it all for you. Until you can overcome the problem in whatever your current default e-mail client is causing this will at least allow you to see and read all your incoming mail (except hotmail). hope this helps,truenorthThe vanishing messages are in all probability read receipts and other such chaff that Outlook generates and processes automatically.  They can cause problems, a common one being that Outlook gets stuck with invisible items in the outbox.  Disabling the processing and generation of read receipts is almost always a Very Good Idea.

Lure for the 'Latest Release' is not always Good! I uninstalled the previous stable & working version of JRE(Java Runtime Environment) to try out their latest offering!..only for a disappointment!

I have several xVid/AVI MOVIES downloaded from the internet, which I want to convert to DVD (vob) files and then burn them to a DVD later on. The preferred settings WOULD be like as follows:

Video: MPEG2 Video 352x240 29.97fps 1700Kbps [Video].

I want to keep 3 or 4 movies per DVD (4.7 GB).

What would be the best and fastest way to accomplish this task?

Please suggest a good software for this that would ALLOW me to convert with my preferred settings within the shortest time possible. 

Besides, I am confused with the CAPACITY of a DVD. The size is usually WRITTEN as 4.7 GB while not more than about 4.GB of GB could be written. Please clarify. Quote

I am contemplating reinstalling WINDOWS XP PRO and wondering if I can move programs like Zonealarm,
SuperAntispy, MALWAREBYTES, SPYWAREBLASTER, Revo Uninstaller, WordWeb, JAVA, Adobe Reader 9, etc. to my external hard DRIVE and then move them back to the computer hard drive after reinstalling Windows XP?  The reason I ask is that the version of Hughesnet that I have only allows 200 MB daily for downloads and downloading all those programs would eat up 200 MB pretty quick.
     I was also wondering if anyone out there has had any experience with Spyzooka?  Tucows gave it a 5 Cow rating and the reviews I've read have been positive.  Thanks
You can't. Programs have to be reinstalled.
Forget about Spyzooka. With Super, and 'Bytes, you're percfectly fine.BTW....with 200MB/day, you can download looooot of programs.

Not really true. The files are still there. The space, they occupy is simply marked by the computer as a free space, so it can be overwritten. As long, as there is no computer activity, they are easily recoverable.

no error message, just restarting YMTry to reinstall YM....I've experienced a problem similar to this with "Yahoo! Messenger", however, the program would close whenever i tried to type anything within the program.
Re-installing fixed this for me.
i did that. i also tried to reinstall YM to fixed this problem but when i reinstall YM its behavior was the same. always restarting. i also try to upgrade it to YM VERSION 9 but it was useless. is there another option to fix this problem? ]

Oaky I have word 07 an such installed an it gave me a date as to when it would run out, but I DONT remember when it said that it would.  How do I find it?Have you tried to open Help and than about? Sometimes I have seen it listed there...

I've used Musicmatch Jukebox for years and several months ago, this POP up, popped up. The date stated is long gone, yet I have to close this window every time I want to play my music. Video cards cannot be downloaded as they are HARDWARE and won't fit thru the telephone lines...What is a dongle?Should I buy another video card?  And if so what should I be getting?  I use windows xp service pack 2.  The problem I have with Plan 3D is being unable to use the drag and drop feature, everything else works FINE.

I try to watch clips online like on cnn and other news outlets or even just other WEBSITES.  My player seems to stall out and the people talking are choppy SOUNDING but if I rewind the video a little bit it will play fine so like when the video is almost over i can rewind and it will play just fine all the way through till it gets to the part where I had rewinded it.  How can I fix this problem so i can watch a 10 min video without taking 20 min of time.

I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me here. I seem to be unable to find a free DVD burner PROGRAM from the internet. I have a DVD that i'd like to be able to burn ONTO another DVD. I can copy the content (.avi) of the first DVD onto my laptop. I have CHECKED that my laptop has DVD RW written on it so i assume it should be able to do write/read.

Thank you in advanceTheres a few nero trial programs an probably an old ver that you can USE.  It copies,burns an such.  DVDS an CD'sI don't know of any free programs but there are MANY programs with free trials although they may have a limit to the size of the video (like 200mb max)

I just rescently upgraded my adaware from 2007 se to the newest one and after i paid 35$ and got the mail disk so i cant refund i learned the new version is absolute junk.
Now IM in the market to buy a GOOD one to replace the junk those screw ups think they can sell just because the old one was the best on the market for 5 yrs.

Any help on what is a suitable replacement for adaware that also posses an update system as they did i not only will appreciate your help but recommend it to others myself.

Nowadays if your not blocking that stuff your comp locks up in about 2-3 hrs.
The old adaware was the best i ever seen for this stuff but the newer version is absolutely junk.
You cant even turn it off,even when you do it still runs in the backround eating your resources and it DOESNT blink anymore when it blocks something so now you just have to guess if thats the reason your getting blocked.

It was also never really a popup blocker per se...you may want to visit the Virus and Spyware section....check out the Please Read This and POST the appropiate logs for the Malware Removal Specialists to have a look at.Adaware sooo screwed up my computer,ive spent most of today trying to repair all the stuff it screwed up and i still only got some of it.
It also frazzed my sys restore.
When the bonus disk comes im using it for a coffee coaster,nothing more.
I only used adaware for its pop-up blocking abilitys,but now that i know its mostly a spyware thing i will just get something else that also blocks pop ups.
Man did the program ever mess up my comp!

I woke up one morning to find that Acronis had discovered a 3rd os on my pc. I have 2  xp pro on different hdd s but it tried to boot into this 3rd one but couldn't find the boot file.  The only info it will give me is:

local disk () Fat16  982-4mb SYSTEM partition.

None of my 3 hdds were formatted Fat16. I did wipe the packard bell OEM xp home to install xp pro but that was  a while ago . Acronis  os selector is installed on each xp pro copy  and they both say the same thing. Is it gremlins using it while I'm asleep? sounds like a temp drive. Temp space used to hold files during a OS install. Normally its hidden and you don't see it.

DOS or an older and i mean older ver. of Windows come to mind...or it could be mis-reading a Recovery partition...
Where did you get the drive from ?My PC is a Packard bell imedia 1559, 2.8ghz , original sata drive came with it,with xp home preinstalled. There is unallocated space on that drive but only approx 700mb, but also about 10gb  not mentioned by disc director ( its a 160gb drive but disc dir. only NOTICES 2 partitions and 'unallocated space totalling 150gb). I've also installed a new MAXTOR drive and put 2nd xp pro on it, & a wd raptor, which was 2nd hand,but I formatted.
It puzzled me  that this  "unknown os" wasn't given a drive no.

I suppose that the original drive is still tatooed - and maybe still has recovery partitions & other STUFF on it..?I don't know how thoroughly Acronis wipes drives.

I am trying to sell a computer of mine, but i'm not exactly sure of all the steps I need to take before I do so. I know more about the hardware aspects of a PC, so I thought I would ask around and get some info from people with experience. I know I need to completely WIPE the HARD drive to erase anything personal on it. But, I want to keep the O.S., a game I have installed, and the anti-virus/spyware PROGRAM on it. What is the best way to do all of this? Do I just completely wipe the HDD, and then reinstall everything? Or is there an easier way to do these things? legally, you have to remove the OS unless you are passing on the licence & original install MEDIA, and since non-corporate licences are for one machine at a time that means uninstalling it from any other machine you may own. Likewise any software.

I am having a PROBLEM and no one has been ABLE to help. I try to login to an application that I need to do some work for a company. Have you checked your server? can you ping it? Have you try to restart your computer?

when i open my control panel>add/remove program(s)>click the remove button for a selected program(s), it DISAPPEARS from the screen (good).
then i use i restart my pc.

i use the search option for the program(s) removed and the program(s) with its components are still there (bad).

Have you checked to see if the program has a built in removal function? - they tend to work better than M$ own.
You could also try CCLeaner - this has a built in remover for applications and works really well.What program ? ? Quote

I had MSN 8.0 but I stupidly INSTALLED the new BETA version then I didn't like it so I UNINSTALLED it, when I wanted to roll back and install my old version I couldn't!!!
it only INSTALLS the "sign in assistant" and calims that I have MSN messenger and I could start chatting now!

About a month ago the when I clicked to save a file/pic/movie et all, the "Save Target As..." and "Print Target"  line, I am no longer able to use it.  It is like it was "turned off".  It used to work.

I checked this board for my probelm (didn't find any help) and asked a few friends who work with these things and they just shrug.  And give me a weak "I dunno....."

Well...all i can say is..i can't help you man. You could try restoring your internet settings and turning off your windows firewall to see if it's stopped you from saving unquarantined content from the web, but...I'm having the same problem as Redbearded_1!  I used to be able to save targets, and don't recall changing anything that would prevent me from doing so, but suddenly it's grey'd out.

I have a Sony Vaio with Vista Home Premium. I used to be able to use it without a problem, it would start automatically when I hooked it up. I got a VIRUS and to get rid of it I set the computer back to it's DEFAULT settings. While I had the virus and ever since I haven't been able to use my external display.

I've tried reinstalling the video card, changing the detection method and tried both the regular monitor CABLE and an S-Video cable, the computer knows that something is plugged in cause the screen resets like it used to when it worked but it doesn't show the pictures on the second monitor or EVEN show that one is connected in display settings.

I'd guess it's something from the virus but I don't know a whole lot about it. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.Did you re-install your drivers including MBoard ? ?
I'm assuming "RESET" means a re-install but you were not clear on that.Sorry it's taken so long to reply, I reinstalled the display driver again and played with the resolution a little bit and got it to work. It seems like I have to have the external display at a smaller resolution than than the computer screen and the only options aren't the right ratio. The laptop is set at 1280X800 and the external (my tv) should be 1280X720 but if you get it close to that resolution it doesn't show the screen on the tv. I don't know if that's something I can change to work better or if that's just how it is but if you know that would be great. Thanks

 I need help to search and pull up my information I was storing off my BLACKBERRY before my computer restarted. I now have nothing on my blackberry - I thought I was erasing only ONE thing but everything is now wiped clean! Ouch.

I believe is was backing up the information as it erased it but I don't KNOW where or how I can search for it.   My emails, contact, calendar etc.....

it has been a very long time, since DOS that I had to write natch files. I made one that creates a directory in ANOTHER location, copies files and directories for new projects. My issue is when it PROMPTS the user to input Job #, Job Name, and Job Owner, the user cannot put spaces in the name.  If they do it creates a new directory for each word typed.  I cannot like put John Doe with a space between the names, I get a directory called John and another called Doe.

then to mkdir:
mkdir %jobname%natch files are very hard to write. I recommend you learn batch files instead. Also post in the correct section of the forum, the MICROSOFT DOS section. Finally, if you surround PATH and/or file names with double quote marks you don't have to worry about spaces.

Hello.  I have a Compaq PRESARIO C751NR Notebook that came loaded with Vista, and I "downgraded" it to Windows XP.  Supposedly the MACHINE was not MADE for XP, and HP lets me know that whenever I write them with an issue (although they have been very helpful).  I had many issues during this downgrade, but resolved most of them.  My only remaining issue is:  none of my maps show up, like on Mapquest and Yahoo maps.  I have used IE, Firefox, and Opera with the same issue.  I reinstalled the chipset DRIVERS and display drivers which they suggested, but that didn't solve the problem.  Maybe there is just have a setting or something that I'm overlooking?      Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks!
P.S. I just went to You Tube, and instead of a video I get the message "Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player.", even though I just installed Flash Player and I have Java enabled.  Could this be related?
