Recently I was recovering data from my FRIENDS laptop when I decided to see some different ways of recovering or backing up a hard drive.

Through Google I came across this article:

It tells you about hard drive recovery and how you can go about doing it. It then also tells you what the chances are for recovering from a drive that has gone through a mechanical failure (Gone through a natural disaster or dipped in oil).


Upon reading this I decided to find software that can recover data in situations that the hard drive is a logical failure.

Clonezilla comes in a live CD that you can load into a computer and creates a partition or DISK clone from your hard drive.

We just gave our son an Acer laptop for Christmas and would like to KNOW which of the "clean-up" programs works the best for getting rid of all the pre-loaded garbage on new computers.  Decrapifier or Slim Computer.  Can I download these and other malware programs to a flash drive on my computer and install them on his new computer before loading up Norton Antivirus?  I would just as soon install as many security and malware programs as possible before getting on line.  Any, and all other suggestions are more than welcome.  Thank you.Windows firewall will be running, so don't worry so much about installing security and malware programs before going online.  By the way, paying for Norton Antivirus should be viewed as an option, not a requirement.  Of course, the computer should have an antivirus program installed but several good free antivirus programs are available.  I'll mention avast! Antivirus, Avira AntiVir Personal, and Microsoft Security Essentials

Regarding malware (other than viruses) protection, SuperAnti-Spyware and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware are two highly rated programs.

Regarding Decrapifier or Slim Computer, I'm not familiar with Slim Computer but I have used Decrapifier and have a favorable impression.  It can be helpful in identifying programs to consider removing. Quote

I'm not a fan of ANY "decrapifier". You can go to Programs & Features and uninstall ANYTHING you like. OR - if you are computer savvy - you can just format and start from scratch (which is what I always do with a new system) and install only what you like. Yes, agreed. You do need an original OS disk to do as I suggested and not everyone has one.Thank you, Allan.  I'm not really computer savvy that is why I would rely on programs like Decrapifier & Slim Computer.  I have no idea what is necessary and what is not on a new computer.  When I look at my own Windows Task Manager and see 66 processes running I haven't a clue as to which ones can be be shut down and still have my computer run efficiently.  For instance, I run Firefox, yet on the Task Manager I can see that explorer.exe is running and using 11,028 K of Memory and Firefox is using 143,452 K +/-.  Have no idea why this is, so I just leave it alone and assume that explorer.exe is necessary, too.  This new computer did not come with any disks to reinstall which means that I will have to make some sort of recovery disks and that is always a mystery to me as to how they are supposed to work should a problem arise and they are needed.  I assume I should make the recovery disks after I run the cleanup software in order to avoid having the garbage installed again?  Thank you, you are all so helpful.Let me just ask something. Oh, and one thing you can do easily is download and run Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel (http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml). Uncheck any startup items you don't need. There's never a reason to uninstall anything - just keep them from running.No, my programs SEEM to run fine, although it takes a lot longer to download either attachments or new programs on line than what hughesnet.net states in their advertising for their least expensive service.  I don't know if the fact that it goes through a Linksys router has anything to do with download speed or not.  I only have the router for times when someone visits and needs internet service or for the RARE times I use my laptop.  Thank you for the tip on Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel link.  Just today, though, I did run into a problem with youtube.  No matter what video I wanted to view today, the video would run for 4-8 seconds and freeze up as if it were buffering, but then it would not restart no matter how long I waited.  This has never happened before.  I don't know if the problem is on their end or mine?Re downloads - using a router should not effect anything. Nor would installed apps. Internet speed depends mostly on your ISP and the fact that you are not getting "advertised" speeds is absolutely NOT unusual.

Explorer.exe is for your taskbar and any open explorer (folder) windows, as well as the desktop.


Making the recovery disks before or after won't make a difference. They always restore the computer to a factory image.

Solve : Odd sound (software I think) problem?

I have quite a peculiar sound problem on the computer I am USING right now. Whenever a sound comes out it makes an echo sort of like a feedback loob or someone on ventrilo puting they microphone to their speaker. It does not create a feedback loop, rather an odd echo that slowly fades and makes it difficult to use skype and makes listening to videos on Youtube annoying. Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: I know it is not my speakers because it does the same thing when I plug my headphones into the front of the computer.Lol I had the same problem! Look in the taskbar for something like Via HD Audio Deck or something connected with audio thats not your volume levels. Than disable the effects. Should work  There were no sound modification programs in the START bar. This problem persists even if the computer is turned off and the computer has done this several years. Are you saying you hear this unusual noise even when the computer is turned off?  Do you ALSO hear the noise with your headphones with the computer turned off?  If you unplug the computer, do you still hear it? 

What type (dialup, DSL, cable) of Internet service do you use?  Has this remained the same during the several years you've noticed this odd sound?  During this time period, were you using this same computer?  What make and model is it?  Do you use onboard sound or an add-on sound CARD

I downloaded a software from the internet, but at first, there was no NOTIFICATION that it was a trial version. Then very much later I saw a prompt telling me to update the version of the software I was using which i I did. the next DAY I saw a count down telling me the the free version would expire in 10days. I l later installed the software for a friend and the moment he updated he saw the prompt, installing it for another person, i now told the friend not update and since then he has been using COS he has updated since then.
I have uninstall and REINSTALLED the software hoping that I can use it again but I didn't work is now asking of product key, what I want to know is, is there a way I could undo the very first installation , so I could do it all over again. I TRIED doing a system restore, but the I couldn't get the date of the first installation in my restore point.

Solve : can't completely eliminate comodo file.?

I went to one of your answers but didn't seem to apply. when I click to delete comodo file it gives me an Error Deleting File:
cannot delete CAVshell.dll: access denied
make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not in use.

  --------well, I am not using a disk and I don't know how to check if it is write protected. it is not in use that I know of.

Uninstall Comodo?
What Windows version?The error that you are experiencing is usually as a result of the file currently being in use (i.e. Comodo is currently running on your computer).

If you currently have Comodo installed on your computer it should be uninstalled by GOING to Control Panel-->Add or Remove Programs.

By using Add or Remove programs it will remove Comodo (the program) and usually most files ASSOCIATED with it from your computer.

Alternatively, you should be able to remove the file if you log into Windows in Safe Mode. Safe Mode bypasses the LOADING of non-integral system PROCESSES. In safe mode you should be able to remove the file. Warning: When removing files in Safe Mode make sure that the file is not integral to your computers Operating System. The removal of certain system files will result in you being UNABLE to boot into the Windows Operating System.

I had been using Presorium Frontgate MX to FILTER my emails before I downloaded them from the server.  I built a new computer using Windows 7 and I can't find the install file for it now.  It is an older program and I don't even think they're still around.  If anyone knows where I could find a copy of the program or even a similar program to it I'd greatly appreciate it.  I really liked how Frontgate operated.DOC, it seems ou posted this on another forum.

I'm suspecting malware due to the FOLLOWING situations. First, I tried to update Java and got: "Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if Windows Installer is not correctly installed..."

While trying to do an Adobe update I got: "temp folder is on a drive that is full or inaccesable. Free up space or verify that you have write permission on the temp folder"

I got this same message while trying to update and reinstalling Spamfighter.

I am with bitcomet but a guy from this forum told me that its not a really good program to use. So.. what torrent client are you using and do you like it ? What guy, and what reason did he give? There is very little difference between BT clients. Please note that we do not discuss PIRACY on this site. I use Vuze myself.


I also use Vuze.μTorrent here.Bitcomet isn't that bad of a program, IMO, it shows the IP's you are connected to and can be USED as default for all downloading (I don't do that but i did by accident one time). i use isohunt.com for the torrents and Bitcomet takes care of the rest. Vuze, to my understanding, is written in java. if you are using a old/outdated Java VM, it's going to run slow.I am a Mac user and I use Folx. It's a free 2 in 1 app: download manager and torrent client.

I didn't know if this should go under software or hardware.  I have a fairly recent machine I built using an Asus P5N-E SLI MOBO and I kept Windows 2000 because I had no problems with it.  I'm now building a new machine on an Asus P7H55-M PRO board and I'm putting Windows 7 64-bit on it.  I'd like to transfer my email PROFILES and other settings from FIREFOX, Thunderbird and move other programs I use often.  Would it be easier to use something like Laplink PCMover or just put my old HDD in temporarily and try to transfer the settings and programs by hand? Solve : Outlook - automatic reply to e-mail messages?

Every time I receive an e-mail message in my POP3 account, Outlook sends a reply message to the sender stating that I'm on vacation.  Some time ago, I was experimenting to see if I could set up such a message and apparently I was succseeful.  The problem is I'm not sure how I did it and I would like to make it stop.  I have gone through all of my RULES and alerts and can't find a rule which would do this.  I have run a search on my entire hard drive to find a file containing the words in the reply message that gets sent.  I have searched for .oft files and RWZ files and can't find any.

Does anyone have any suggestions?I'm not sure what version of Outlook you have.  I am running Outlook 2003 and the way to turn it off in this version is to click TOOLS, Out of Office Assistant, and make sure the I am currently in the office radio button is selected.

I have a POP3 account and that does not have the "Out of Office Assistant" feature. I think I solved my problem.  I cancelled my e-mail account and established a new one with the same e-mail address.  As far as I can tell, Outlook has now stopped sending the automatic response.The reason for my asking WHETHER you were on an Exchange Server is this, per Outlook Help: "The Out of Office Assistant command does not appear unless you are using an Exchange Server e-mail account and you are in the Mail view."  So, I have no idea how you could have set up such an automated reply.

Edit: OK, I just saw your last post.  Glad to hear problem resolved.
The way I set it up originally, was to follow instructions on the Microsoft Outlook website.  There were ( and still are) additional instructions for setting up an auto response for people using a POP3 account.  I think I set this up and it worked O.K.
But when my computer got INFECTED and I had to completely restore it, the program started sending these responses all the time and i couldn't find a way  to stop it

I have a FILE with a .rar extension, but when I used winRar to open it,
it said "...unexpected END of the file". I guessed the file extension is a wrong one.

I recently tried to NETWORK my windows XP Home laptop with another laptop RUNNING XP Professional using Ethernet cables and a 8 PORT hub. I was not successful but later on i found out that i could not ACCESS my C drive by double clicking. I used avg to scan my drive but it showed no virus was present. I still cant access my C drive. The only way i can do it is by using the address bar in explorer. i also noticed that I cannot enable the show all hidden files option in folder options.

I ran the system file checker and it showed no problems. I also tried to run it in safe mode but it wouldn't run.

I tried running AVG in safe mode but i reports an error scanning C but it scans all other folders/directories on the C drive.

Can anyone help me with this. I think i may have a boot sector virus, am i right?What settings did you change when setting up your network? Did you install or remove any software?

I think i have found the problem. I had a version of comodo firewall that was more recent than the one i was running so i decided to install it. During the installation it asked me if i wanted it to scan my system, so i let it scan my system. during the scan it found autorun files that were located on my drives and a trojan located in the system 32 folder. The name of the trojan has online game in it. dont remember the full name.

I think i must have got the trojan while playing online game at yahoo. Can any of you say why my antivirus (AVG antivirus) didnt find it?There is no perfect antimalware tool.
Most likely, your problem was that copy of "autorun.inf" file.You should also install AVG Anti-Spyware.
Virus programs are not that great at spotting Trojans.
This is why you need multi-layered protection.
AVG A/S probably would have picked it up....

Solve : Remove Norton Rescue Disk from system?

I am trying to install McAfee antivirus and it keeps saying I have to remove Norton Rescue Disk.  I cannot find it anywhere on my computer and have gone through all files, hidden and otherwise.  I did the Norton removal tool 3 TIMES and it doesn't remove it.  I cannot install McAfee without removing it.  Is there some other way to remove it or override it so I can install McAfee.  How to Remove the Norton VirusI did everything you said Patio but it didn't work.Not sure why that would not work...

This is no biggie, but just an annoyance - Ontario has decided to start DST three weeks early this year and a little programme I have running called DS CLOCK {http://www.dualitysoft.com/dsclock/?about&version=} which synchronizes with various time servers around the world will not change - every time I ask it to run a time check it backs up an hour.   I have e-mailed the programme manager twice without response - has anyone come across a PATCH for this programme - it has a neat little ALWAYS on display which can be placed anywhere on the screen and gives the time and date over whatever is running.Here Ya Go...ianbell, does Windows show the correct time?  If so, then DS CLOCK does not automatically synchronize with Windows, right?  If that's the case, the link patio posted may not solve the problem with DS CLOCK, it seems to me, since it's a Windows update.  I believe Windows users who've been getting their automatic updates already have the update needed for the new daylight savings time dates.  Sorry guys, but Windows update don't apply as STILL running W98SE [so shoot me] - I adjusted system clock manually [duh] which also resets DSCLOCK but whenever I try to run a synchro it backs up both my system clock and DSCLOCK by 1 hour to whatever US timeserver I try, and I've tried about 6 of them - like I said, it's no biggie, just an annoyance, but I do like things to work properly! I just put up with it.     In that I changed my time zone, and UNCHECKED "Automatically ADJUST clock for daylight saving changes".        If I think about it too much, it gives me a headache.   
But the time on this computer is right.   

After that first weekend in April  - is that when it used to change to DST?-    then I'll check those settings one more time,  do what I need to do,  and be ok again until the end of October.   

Have you examined those settings?  and could you make a change there to solve it?

I installed a new Western Digital Hard Drive in my Sony Vaio computer.  I reloaded Windows XP Home and most of my old software programs.  I realized that I hadn't LOADED MS Office 2003, so I started to install it.  It gets about 2/3 through the installation and gives me an Error 1402 DIALOGUE box.  I have checked to make sure that there is not another version of the program showing in the "Add/Remove" area of the Control PANEL and I don't know what to do next.  I am guessing this is a Registry Problem since it is saying that I do not have "permission to load the program."This article pertains to Office 2000, but it may be WORTH a read: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/236427

Sure, you can buy from such reputable vendors as Office Depot or Staples.  Another good source, if you live in the U.S. is newegg.com; see http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=368&name=Operating-Systems  Note: newegg.com sells both OEM and Retail versions of software.  OEM means ORIGINAL Equipment Manufacturer.  It costs less than Retail but it's supposed to be installed on one computer and never transferred to another computer, as it would be if you bought a new computer with Windows pre-installed.  With Retail versions, you have the liberty of uninstalling it from one computer and installing it on another.

Solve : Partition help please...?

I finished my new build about a month ago, and screwed up when partitioning my HD.  I wanted to allocate 10GB for Windows XP and the remainder for everything else, programs, games, files, whatever.  I created one partition, of 10 GB and installed windows on it.  After installing all my devices and software i realized that my C drive was only 10gb, mostly taken up by windows, anti-virus, etc.  Oy!  So I want to rectify this and will reinstall windows fresh and partition the drive properly.

I proceeded to BOOT from my xp cd and reached the partition part, and now I want to make sure I do this right.  I have a 500 GB HD.  How should I make the partition(s)?  Please explain in as much DETAIL as possible.  Although I am FAR from computer illiterate, I obviously don't know what I'm doing for this one very important step.  I have to learn though!  Thanks in advance for your help!http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313348

After the first partition (in my case, 10 GB) is created, the remaining disk space (490 GB) is considered unpartitioned.  Such was the case when I initially did this.  However that disk space was unusable as there was no drive assigned to it, ie D, E, F, etc.  Am i missing something, or do I have to create a second partition to make that part of my HD usable?  I went through my existing drives in windows explorer and the 490 GB is definitely nowhere to be found.  I am assuming that's what I need to do, create a second partition, thereby assigning the unpartitioned portion a drive.  I don't like to assume, as that's what got me into this mess in the first place.

What really is the point of putting windows on it's own partition?  I mean it's far less than 10 GB, which isn't much CLUTTER, and doesn't take all that long to scan, defrag, etc.  As far as I know, every computer I've ever had, had windows on the C drive, along with all the other programs and files and what-not.  Maybe that is incorrect, but I can't recall ever having to go to a different drive to find the windows folder, which then leads me to believe that it was in fact installed without its own partition. (there I go again, making assumptions)

Sigh.  It seems like this should be so easy, but I just don't understand what I did wrong.  It's very, very frustrating to me that I could build the computer from scratch, set up the bios, get everything installed and working properly, but can't wrap my brain around this one little step.

Yes, that's it exactly.  You will again be asked how much of the existing unpartitioned space to allocate to your second partition. When you've answered the second partition will be created.  You can make a selection or simply opt to create the second partition on the remainder of the unpartitioned space, theoretically 490gb in your case.

The second is that IMHO the system partition needs more maintenance (Cleanup, Defrag etc) than non-system partitions to keep it healthy.   If Defrag had to run thru' all your data files every time then that would be a lengthy process.  I assume (here I am too making assumptions) that having a solo 500gb drive you have LOTS of music/video files.   At last, I think I understand!  LOL!  Thank you for your help Dusty!  I'm off to do the deed and start the process all over again.  I'll let you know how it goes.You may want to consider giving XP 20G.

I have a problem to with a Toshiba laptop computer.  In order to use the restore CD, Vista needs to be installed in the first PARTITION.  If I want to install DOS it needs to be installed in the first partition.  I think my partitioning software "Bootit NG" is written with Dr. DOS and seems to WORK in its own partition.  If I converted my Quick Basic code to Dr. DOS Basic could it be run in its own partition in any location?  If so where can I get a Dr. DOS OPERATING  system?  Any information about conversion difficulties would be appreciated.Firstly, it isn't "Dr. DOS", it's DR-DOS.

Does this sound reasonable and, if so, what MIGHT I do about it - please, don't SUGGEST re-installing Windows XP!!  If this doesn't sound reasonable, what might be your suggestion(s).

I erased a few programs from my hard-drive last night, and I am afraid I have MADE a mistake.  All of my text based documents
used to open in Microsoft Word, but when I turned on my COMPUTER and opened "My Documents" today, I found the icons had changed from Word icons to Wordpad icons.  Now all of the documents that I had saved as word docs, open as wordpad docs.  I still have Microsoft Word on my computer.  Is there a WAY to change these documents to the way they were yesterday, or to SET Word as the default program for viewing text based documents?

Attachedis a FILE that contains two sections,

the first section shows how i need the text to appear,

the second section is how the text is given to me.

I need to create a macro that creates the word "FORCE"  infront of the first number and then right justifies the first number in column 13

Then it needs to erase the blank line, take the first FIVE values and place them all on the same line and right justifies the text in a specific columns,

and then it needs to repeat for the rest of the data.

I don't know how you would do this in a macro in Word.  Being an Excel user, I'd most likely do this in Excel, then copy the final RESULT back into Word, if it needs to be in Word.  No the list of numbers  that starts with a 9 came out of excel into a text file then convereted to a word document.  That is how the information looks when i pulled it out of excel.

I am using CutePDF Writer to convert Word .doc to .pdf. One trial yielded the .pdf with all the changes made in editing the .doc I altered some of the Word Tools>Track changes settings and the resulting .pdf was essentially just blank pages. The Word .doc does not show the changes. The CutePDF Writer say it just prints the Word .doc so the problem must be in the settings I have in WordAs a test, can you try another Word file, something small, just for testing?I have done that with two other files. One was 17 pages long and had figures. Both were good. They had been edited in Word yet there was no sign of that in the .pdf version which was just what I expected. I'm not clear on what you MEAN by that statement.  Whatever you see in a Word Print Preview pane is what your PFD document should look like.  What does editing of the file in Word have to do with this?  Do you expect to see something different than what Print Preview shows?The Print Layout View in Word of the .doc causing the problem does not show any of the editing that I have done. One of the .pdf versions shows the editing in red. The other, with CHANGED Word Track change settings shows only blank pages.I can't make any sense of this.  Anyone else have some thoughts?

If this word file is something you're at liberty to put a forum post, I will take a look at it.  To attach a file, click on Additional Options at the bottom of the message composition panel and then click the Browse button to navigate to your file and attach it.  Alternatively, you can send me or any forum member a PM (Private Message).I have tried a number of things since my last post. I converted a short .doc successfully even when I changed the Track Changes settings. I then shortened the offending .doc and tried and got blank pages again. So I reinstalled Office 2000 and this made no difference. The offending .doc is greater than 128 KB. It has occurred to me that the problem could be because the .doc has hyperlinks to web sites. HELP does not tell me how to disable these hyperlinks.I copied the start of the offending .doc and the successfully converted it to .pdf It ha a hyperlink and that was ok in the conversion. I went back to the original .doc and tried again. It again produced 600 pages, mostly blank. I copied the full offending .doc to a new Word file. Then I tried converting this Word .doc to .pdf and it worked! Somehow I had manged to corrupt the original .doc file and then copying it removed the fault.Thanks for posting the outcome.  I think you did some good troubleshooting to resolve this.

I've experienced a problem converting a Word document to PDF.  I belong to a local church.  Each month, the office manager emails the monthly newsletter to me in Word.  I then convert it to PDF and upload it to the church website.  The newsletter is usually 10 - 12 pages long and has a LOT of graphics in it.  Like you, i used a freeware PDF converter.  Initially, I used PrimoPDF but I discovered a problem with one newsletter where the PDF document created from the Word file has some blank space where some graphics should have appeared.  I tried another PDF converter, called pdf995, and it worked; all the graphics appeared in the PDF, same as in the Word file. 

My point is that these freeware PDF converters may have some limitations in working with large Word files, especially those with certain features (hyperlinks, certain types of image files, etc.) embedded in the source file.  In your case, you've determined the problem was a corrupt Word file.  But, I thought I'd mention my experience with PDF converters.  If you have a similar problem ARISE again, the choice of software for PDF conversion may be another point to include in your investigation.

1.I have microsoft word 2007 and for whatever reason now everytime i open word the top arrow/icon on the ruler  is set to the 1/2 inch MARK yet the bottwom arrow/icon is set to 1 inch. ALL  of my margins, tabs, everything has been checked and is in order.

2. now instead of my default being times new roman font 12, it is now calibri font size 11 and i cannot for the life of me remember how i set my defualt to times new roman with font 12. 

3. word used to be set so that there would be only ONE space after a PERIOD and if i accidently (which i often do) hit 2 space after period it would show the "green line" that i have made that error. that feature is now GONE as well and i have no idea how to get it back. please please help me. thank you. jeff

calibri font size 11 is the default after a fresh installation of Office 2007. To change it:
1. display the Font dialog box.
2. Make desired changes
3. Click the Default button
4. When the Microsoft Word dialog box is displayed, click the Yes button

Hi guys,

This is a bit of a long winded PROBLEM so sorry in advance!!

I am running windows XP, version 2002, SP2.

I am currently taking my Microsoft user specialist exams and have recently bought the Office 2003 practice EXAM software. I currently have Office 2003 home edition and Office 2007 professional plus installed on my computer. However because no Microsoft access CAME with the 2003 package (which i didn't realize and didn't need at the time) i cannot RUN the Access practice exams.

I have a Microsoft office professional XP disk which has the Access 2003 program and I was just wondering if there was any way I could install it on my computer and use that to practice the Access exams. Whenever i choose to open the Access exams they run the simulation using 2007 which isn't a lot of use to me for a 2003 exam.

No, Office XP Professional would have Access XP, not Access 2003.

So, are you asking whether you can install Access XP only from your Microsoft office professional XP disk?

Solve : LOST SIS ADAPTER OR DRIVERS?

i could sure use some help,  here is the FIX i am in.  trying to get some different driver for display adapter sis 760,  they did not work, went back to roll back driver,  no go,   TRIED UNINSTALL and reboot,   no go   went to help and i though it said, go to control panel -add or remove-   so down at the bottom,  probably in microsoft i seen (sis adapter) i clicked uninstall..    oh boy....   HOW CAN I GET THEM BACK... they are not in recycle bin.  here is computer info      Compaq Presario

Still not solved. i tried every font, still the same. and about the titile bar, i've purposely cut it on the correct image to reduce the FILE size. it doesn't matter. but still, its unsolved.Try setting XP to Classic view...I did that as well  Did you try to contact program maker?I did, he even gave me the fixed one. but still the same. I did ask help from my friend as well, but he said, there is nothings wrong with the software actually. He said my laptop may require other software to run it, he can;t get his fingers on. Java... flash... macromedia... DirectX... what else?

What about .NET updates? Is there a difference among the COMPUTERS? Does the program require .NET to run?Im not sure if the program needs .NET software. My .NET framework is up to date. Solve : Norton Ghost 14.0?

I wanted to copy my old 40GB MAXTOR to a bigger hardrive a 120GB hardrive dont know the name right now. I installed norton ghost went into copy hardrive seleted the 40 I wanted to copy to the 120 and I get this message poping up on the screen.

This Operation cant not be preformed while the destination is in use. Close any applactions that may be using the destination drive and selete "retry" or select ignore to force a dismount of the drive and continue the operation.

I hit ignore I get this message that says the drive cant be dismounted its clean their is nothing on it at all. Works prefect as a slave drive tho but I wanted it to be my master just 1 hardrive in my computer thats what I want.
Hello Rockstar. Have you checked this in the User Guide? As far as I know, they have described this condition and possible solutions in the guide. Please check the guide and see if any information is provided or not. Sorry that I cannot hint you there myself as I don't have the guide. Let us know if it helps or not. Good Luck.

Solve : Darik's Boot and Nuke?

I wanted to USE this SOFTWARE on a hardrive to delete everything off it since I got a bunch of Virus's on it and it works slow. My question is tho after this software whipes the hardrive COULD I still put a copy of windows XP in and reinstall my OS or would it be dead?DARIK's Boot and Nuke wipes out all data, but it doesn't destroy hard DRIVE itself.
