Solve : LG CD-RW ERROR WHEN TRING TO RECORD??

Answer»

I've GOT win.98 se,just installed cd-rw drive and an error:TRACK WRITER ERROR;CD READ FAILED(T7124),keeps popping up. I'm a little familiar with a computer, but not to good.I've used the same drive on a different computer, and it worked very well. If anyone knows what is creating this error, and how to fix it PLEASE let me know. THANK YOU

I've just noticed that in the control panel its not showing a driver for the disk drive.Should there be one, if so how do i go about putting one in?It says ones not required, and i thought windows automaticly puts one there for it if it NEEDS one?THANKSWhat make and model is the CD drive?
What software and version are you using?
What speed is the software set to BURN at? (On Windows 98 you may encounter many problems with speeds over 4x, sometimes over 2X).
Are your temp FOLDERS empty?
Make sure that the CD you are going to write is writeable bzc only CD-RW can be re-written and else not. Secondly check your drive woth some other CD's...

Solve : cd-r drive causing freeze?

Answer»

Yesterday while turning on my pc my cd drive light turned red (never seen a red light on it before ?) and after windows was loaded my computer FROZE.  This happened again today while I was online.  My drive light came on red and everything froze again.  Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this or what I can do to fix it.  I am not incredibly computer savy   so if you can keep it simple that would be great.  Thank you for any help you can give me. Which operating system are you using? Do you have virus protection? When did this happen, and how LONG has this been going on? Also, have you INSTALLED any new hardware/software prior to this incident?

Solve : Sound Card (Please Help!!!)?

Answer»

I just bought a second computer which happens to be second hand. Everything is fine with it except for one thing. I can play mp3 files and mpeg files and mov files and various others but when i attempt to play a asf or wmv video FILE or even listen to something over the net it makes this really loud unbearable squeeling sound for every single file ending with those extensions. Im at a lost ive tried installing codecs but just cannot seem to fix it. If anyone could help me with this it would be much appreciated.

Regards

EdenEden, which video card do you have? Can you tell me the name and manufacturer please?

[glb]Flame[/glb]Thankyou very much for takign the time to read and reply to my msg. I never even thought of the video card just thought of the sound card. My video card says its a ATI 3d rage pro agp 2x. Hope this helps.

Regards

EdenOh man! aaaahhhhh!!! I MESSED up! Sorry!   I meant SOUND card... Not video... What was I thinking?! lol
[glb]Flame[/glb]No problem mate, its an ESS1869 PLUG and play.Ok.... Who is the manufacturer (or was it already included?) Do they have a website? If so then try going to their webiste and updating your sound drivers...

[glb]Flame[/glb]Yeah its ESS. Ive updates the drivers but still doesnt work. im lost. What program are you using to listen to the music?

[glb]Flame[/glb]Well its not the music, music is fine its just asf and wmv video files. Im using windows media player but ive also tried real player and it has the same problem. Should i maybe just get a new sound card?So... You installed these codecs?
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/format/codecdownload.aspx

If you're only having problems with wmv/asf, chances are, you're having problems with WMP.  Maybe you can reinstall WMP or something...  That'll hopefully fix it...THANKS for the advice. I DOWNLOADED the codec that didnt work so i unistalled media player and re-installed it and that didnt work. Im at a complete loss.Just another note. After playing a .wma file which is just audio it was also making that high pitch defning sound which suggests its only files that are directly related to windows media player. But what does that mean? ive re-installed it, ive done everything i can think of but it still doesnt work. Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks

EdenWhat does .........typing dxdiag in the runbox..........report.........run the test.or or goto download.com and update directx to 8.1..........What about upgrading to direct X 9.0C? Isn't that the latest one?

[glb]Flame[/glb]Downloaded installed it but it still isnt working. Any other ideas?

Solve : hardware problem??

Answer»

I first started noticing a problem when I bought the new World of Warcraft game for my pc.  In-game I would experience what appeared to be lag, where the movements during gameplay aren't completely smooth. But SINCE I run broadband internet and at my friend's house there's no lag I thought maybe it's a hardware problem.  My computer is about 5 years old, it's an Athlon 1.2ghz 384mb ram with a 64mb geforce VIDEO card.  It's not top of the line but it is still better than the minimum requirements for the game.  My first thought was to upgrade the video card.  My friend sold me a ATI 9600 128 mb AGP card, installed and I still experience that same laggish type jerkyness every so often.  I also noticed that when I move my mouse while opening internet explorer or starting a program that it no longer moves smoothly, it will hang for a split second while moving the mouse cursor in circles for example.  I have updated Norton's Anti-virus and run Ad-aware to scan for spyware often so I don't think it's a problem related to that.  I also started having problems running anime avi fansubs and other video files I download.  They have that same hanging/jerkyness mentioned above, makes it look like the cameraman didn't know what he was doing when he filmed.  The only other thing I can think of is maybe needing more RAM?  My friend said upgrading the video card should free up resources not make my computer run worse so any suggestions would be greatly APPRECIATED.  I did read on the forums here about the PCI slot underneath being left empty, I plan on checking that later today.  But if the symptoms could be caused by anything else would be good to know.Ok, first...  Did you set the AGP aperture size to 128MB?  If it's still set to 16MB or so, your gfx card will only be able to use 16MB...  To check/change this, GO into BIOS (Press del during boot), and look around, there should be a setting called "AGP Aperture Size", and make sure it's set to 128.  Also, I want to know, but how high is your CPU Usage when your mouse lags while moving around the screen (Ctrl+Alt+Del, there should be something on the bottom saying "CPU Usage")?  If it's really high, and you're not running much, it may be that some programs are running as background services w/o your knowing.I run ad-aware regularly and have norton's active, is there any program you'd recommend using to find out if hidden programs are running? Are you on XP?  If so, the windows task manager is good enough...  Ctrl+Alt+Del.  And I ask again, did you set the AGP Aperture size?could be anything.........ram/graphics/drivers/overheating...lag because its the net sever..........run diagnostics>>http://www.active-hardware.com/english/misc/sandra.htmlSorry for the delayed response, I work nights so I sleep during the DAY.  Well I checked the BIOS and it's PhoenixBIOS 2.08 and there is no choice for the agp settings besides whether to set your video to PCI/AGP.  Yes I am running windows XP and as far as I can see in the task manager, everything is running that is supposed to be.  Nothing stands out as being a program running that's not supposed to be.

Solve : DESPERATE! Sound Issue!?

Answer»

Hello everyone. This is my first post here and I desperately need help with this sound related issue.

I have a Soyo motherboard SY-KT600 DRAGON Plus v2.0, with sound onboard which is C-Media AC97. The PROCESSOR is Athlon 2900+ with 256 memory and running Windows XP Pro.

The problem I am experiencing is a new one that I've never heard of. I am currently trying to convert my cassettes to CD using the sound input device. Whenever I start recording, there is a feature built into this sound card that creates either noise-reduction or fade-in feature. Everytime a song starts the recording creates a fade-in and then DECREASES VOLUME when the song has a break or BEATS get lower. Either way it's causing volume fluctuation throughout the SONGS and it's getting on my nerves as I can't find anywhere to disable this feature. Can someone PLEASE help me.

Yes, I do have the latest drivers for the card.Hello friend, how are you? Which software u are using for recording?

Solve : IBM Aptiva Hard Drive Upgrading?

Answer»

I have an IBM Aptiva PC which came with a 10.1 GB hard drive and the IBM website/support allows only for their one upgrade which is only for 20.1 GB. The only info IBM will supply me is that the original works with IDE ATA/66 interface and that their upgrade hard drive being EIDE ATA/100 will work.
What I need is to upgrade to at least 40GB and if I buy an IDE ATA/133 whether it will work.
Have given the info below. Grateful foe any help!

PC Information[/b]: Aptiva 2194-440 Serial Number:CZZ01HB
Original description: Intel Pentium III 667MHz (256KB), 64MB, 10GB IDE HDD, Microtower (3X4), Intel 810e 2X AGP, DVD 8X, 56K, Win98SE

Original Hard Drive
IBM 10.1GB IDE hard disk drive (5400RPM) Option Part number: 00N8202 Replacement (FRU) Part number: 36L8681

IBM's only Upgrade Hard Drive
20.4GB 5400rpm ATA/100 (EIDE) HDD Part number: 22P7150Ok, first...  Your computer is a desktop, yes?  In that case, whether you can upgrade to a 40GB ATA/133 depends on your motherboard.... Information which you didn't supply.  So, can you find your motherboard make?  Given that information, after some searches on google, we should be able to find out if it's possible,Thanks RS...

have some more information on the system board.
System board diagram (Intel 810e) - Aptiva 2194 / IBM PC300 (type 6345) / NetVista 6345

IBM 19K3582 NETVISTA SYSBRD 6018/6269 810E
(the 19K3582 is IBM's part number)

So, the system board seems to be described as either
NETVISTA 6345 or NETVISTA SYSBRD 6018/6269 810Ejust have to hard drives.............done. slave  them ide cable needed...............you .need more ram mate??only for drives allowed?there should a bios upgrade check intels website.........or consider this>>http://www.pcmech.com/byopc/Thanks, I've got the latest bios upgrade from IBM's website, but there's no info came with it about Hard Drive capacity support.save the 10 gig as the slave drive..........boot with the 40 gig..DONT buy a crapster  hard drive.......seagate........you can have out the case if you have not got SPACE.........but you need more ram.........at least 1024mb this is depending whats it use for.......for an ideal net sever......128mb /ram 10/gig of h/d.......maybe its time to use it as a server/games machine........time to move upwards.......if you can afford it?that is..IDE/ATA hard drives are backward compatible.  An ATA-133 installed into an ATA-66 system will operated at ATA-66 SPEED.  If you choose a drive greater than 127GB, you may have PROBLEMS.  Whatever brand you choose, make certain it is at least a 7200 rpm drive.  In my experience, 7200 rpm vs 5400 rpm has a very noticeable difference.

Solve : fuse blowing?

Answer»

have a msi kt3 ultra 2 m/b 400watt PSU
running win xp proff. amd 1800 512 mem ddr
problem is intermittent
main fuse 3 amp blows now and again
have reloaded drivers setup whole system cleaned inside installed new fans
any ideas out there to REASON?
got me baffled.
have two sytems in place both were on at same time different locations in house i was connected to web via hub as is other computer both protected by anti surge devices. using graphic card/ethernet link in agp/pci have one dvd rom r/w and stand 1.4 floppy 40gig hard drive. cannot understand why fuse is blowing as it is not blowing all the time no short circut . lost please advise Quote

...main fuse 3 amp blows now and again...

Where is this main fuse located?normal kettle type plug to psu from main powerTransformers have a high inrush current and are often fitted with special slow blowing fuses so make sure you are replacing them with the correct type & size.

3 amps sounds a TAD low for a 400 watt power supply.
Reading through my power supply book, it says the running current would be about 10 amps at 115 volts.

I'm assuming this fuse is on the primary side (input) of the transformer.have replaced with 5amp fuse
hopefully this should cure problem
other computer running on 3 amp no problems
using a q-tech 400watt psu in both computersIt may be worth a google search to get the correct fuse specifications. :-[have sinced contacted q-tec and their advice is change the lead and use another power outlet.
poss loose wires
on reflection after three e-mails they still did not understand the question. the kettle lead has been cahnged and another power socket used and it still blew i suspect psu feedback as i am using the anti surge device from first blowout. and she is using mine in another socket. so still confused.Hi, This is not really an area of specialty for me but... You say you have an 'anti surge' device but is it a $5.99 special or an actual, performance guaranteed, surge protector? With the first, if you have a surge it blows out a circuit in the power bar and all you have is a 6 place extension cord. I usually use a UPS on any computer, helps with black outs, brown outs and surges.
Good LUCK,
jimcheers JIM its a proper device
in old uk don't suffer many blackout/brownouts
anyhow its the wifes computer!
she know to back up frequently now..
cheers anyhow (it cost £22 appx 40 us$)
cheers for helpFew power problems there? I may move
Okay, trial one didn't work, how about this.
I did a little searching and found a site with a problem similar to yours listed. http://www.techspot.com/vb/archive/index/t-5450.html May help a little.
Also, looking over the QTechnology website I found a disclaimer regarding others selling PSU's as QTec. You probably already know this but just in case, Quote
PLEASE NOTE - It has come to our attention that another company called "Q-Tec" has recently entered the market and is causing confusion by offering low cost PSUs in competition with QTechnology. Please be certain that neither QTechnology nor Quiet PC have any connection whatsoever with Q-Tec. We know several instances of customer being disappointed with the quality and noise level of Q-Tec PSUs only to find out later that the product they had bought was not made by QTechnology. If you are not buying directly from Quiet PC, please make sure you know what you are buying, and if the price seems too good to be true, it probably is! To add further to the confusion, we now find that there is a third company calling themselves Qtech who have started offering pre-built PCs. Again, our position is that we have no association with them.

Ve try, ve try, sometymps ve fail but ve try.
jim
cheers for that
changed wifes over to spare 300watt psu
seems okay at moment

Solve : Need Help With Sound?

Answer»

Hi I have been having this problem for a few months but here goes

I have a ibm netvista running Microsoft ME

When I start up the sound is good and clear even if i just listen to music it is good but the problem is if i want to do anything else it just seems to quit and when i was looking at the driver INFO it said that the vmm32.vmx is unavailable and there was another that was unavailable.

Can u help me get the sound back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have tried some of the things that u told others to do but it is just not workingWell.... What exactly HAVE you tried? Have you tried reinstalling your sound card drivers?

[glb]Flame[/glb]I have done full recovery...got updates...downladed the drivers remove the driver and put it back :-/My sound card is an analog devices and it SAYS hardware virsion 002
i just noticed there is noise but no music or audio
Are the speakers good?  It might be a problem with the speakers, not the driver...Just to throw another angle at it, did you check that ALL volume controls are turned up in 'Volume CONTROL'?
jimthe sound works and u can here it when u start up and if u just want to leston to music but when u use different programs it stops and u cannot here anything
Have you scanned for viruses and such?

[glb]Flame[/glb]i had problem like this when i was running win 98 the problem was the sound card was only running in half duplex and the drivers that were available at the time wouldnt alow me to run the sound card in full duplex.  in other words if i was USING the sound card for one program say winamp or MUSICMATCH to listen to music i couldnt use any other program that needed the sound card.  but when i upgraded to windows 2000 the problem solved it self.

i dont know if this is whats happening here but to it sounds like it.Volume control does not stay in place, it moves to the minimum by itself.I'm using windows ME and i am not sure when all this started didn't use my computer much until lately

Solve : toshiba satelite 2510cds laptop?

Answer»

(pentium2-300) I have an old but reliable companion (as above) that I use whenever i am away form my desktop.

The machine has decided to only work on the POWER pak from the mains and not on the batteries.

I assumed that the problem was a SPIRITUALLY liberated (dead) battery so I purchased a new ONE only to find no difference ( still won't go on battery).

The machine works perfectly on powerpak and the pwr screen states the battery has 100% charge and will LAST 4+ hrs.

can ANYBODY assist, all suggestions are appreciated.

(I am not financial enough to get a new machine if that is anybodies suggestion)My guess is that the power "acceptors" (I know NO mechanical terms) have gone bad... It sounds like an internal thing to me...

Solve : DVD writer shows Blank disks with as full?

Answer»

when I put a blank DISK in my dvd drive It shows the disk as empty.  I can go into the drive and see nothing on it.  When I hit properties it shows as 0 memory available and 0 room USED.  I can not then write to the dvd disk.  I have tried all the disk formats that are supposed to work on the disk drive.  I can not format the disk.  It will read a dvd disk or CD and burn a Cd, but I can not burn a Dvd.  I can not figure out what settings I need to change to make the Disk work.  when I put a blank cd in it It shows all the memory as available like it should.  What do I need to reset to write to a DVD?You need CD BURINING software that can make the DVD(s) first... Do you have any of that? Also, you might want to try updating your CD/DVD ROM Drivers...

Solve : Memory Stick - USB?

Answer»

Helooo,

I plugged my USB memory stick into the computer and got the message that it was not supported at USB 2.0 and WOULD only function at reduced speed. I am worried this may affect the data that I want to save, will it be ok?
Please E-mailNot to worry, it's okay. That just means that your USB port is USB 1, not USB 2.  FORTUNATELY for you, USB 2 is fully compatible with USB 1, just with speed differences.  For example, if you plug a USB 1 device into a USB 2 port, it'll work, just at the speed of USB 1.  ALSO, if you plug a USB 2 device into your USB 1 port (This is your case), it'll work, just that it'll RUN at the speed of USB 1.  So, nothing to worry about, really.

Solve : connecting two nic in one pc?

Answer»

I need to know how to connect two NICS in ONE computer with 2000 windows. One nic for LAN and other for Internetwell all you really need to do is have 2 PCI slots that are open and the drivers for each card for win 2k, after that just MAKE sure that you have TCP/IP protocol, client for MICROSOFT networks, and file and printer sharing for microsoft networks installed on each nic.

as for the cables, you need 2 cat 5 cables with RJ-45 ends on each, one cable has to be a cross over cable the other needs to be a normal cable.

now as far as connecting the 2 computers you need to make sure that both nic cards are using the same protocols. this is very important other wise this wont work. if one of them has the above stated protocols then the other computer has to have the same 3.  also make sure they are part of the same network name....ie. "workgroup", or "mshome", or what ever you want to call it.

once you have everything setup and both computers are on you should be able to go into network places (might be network neighborhood in windows 2000) and you should see the other computers name, double click the icon for that computer and you in.

this isnt the easiest way of connecting 2 computers but it does work you can even set up internet CONNECTION sharing.

the easiest way is just to get a router and plug both computers in and your done. hope this helps you rizwan.

Solve : What Soundcard should I get??

Answer»

I am trying to hookup my 350watt STEREO system to my pc. The stereo has a audio (red and white) plugins at the front. One option I have is to buy a wire thing that will have a normal pc speaker end and a red and white audio plugs at the other end. However, I THINK this WOULD not be a good sound quality. Is there a soundcard that I could buy that would let me plug my stereo in? ALSO, when I SEE all the plugs at the back of a soundcard, I dont know what each one does. Any help/advise would be greatly accepted.   I'm afraid that this isn't necessarily my area of expertise, but I believe that using the adapter for RCA Audio output would work fine.Ya, I think that is what I am going to do. Thanks for the input!

Solve : DVD drive not reading anything?

Answer»

So I got a new DVD+-RW drive a while back.  It was working perfectly for a while, and then it suddenly ceased to work.  The drive SHOWED up in Windows and BIOS and such, but it just wouldn't work....  I left it alone, hoping things would GET better, but no luck - in fact, it got worse...  The drive ceased to show, and BIOS stopped detecting it as well, and not only that, but it began to crash my computer.  I just disconnected it and left it alone for a while, but today, I decided to give it another shot.  I cleaned out the whole thing, and connected it.  BIOS now detects it and Windows can find the drive, but it won't read ANYTHING =\  I looked for drivers (No luck) and I installed the newest firmware, and tried everything I can, but it just won't read disks.  Can anybody help?

It's a NU DVDRW DDW-082, and I'm running XPSP2 on a 2.4GHz P4 with 512MB RAM.  ANd oh, btw, the IDE CABLE is good - I tried switching the Master/Slave, but the CDRW drive still WORKED, yet my DVDRW drive still wouldn't.  Any help or suggestions would be appreciated =]

Solve : router help plz?

i was looking for a new router because my mirosoft braband wired router keeps dieing on us and we plan to upgrade to a wireless but in the stores i see wireless (i think it's0b and g type router

wats the differnce and who sould i buy from

[size=18]plz help[/size]The difference between a B and a G is speed... A B router can go up to 11MBPS ... A G router can go up to 54MBPS. Also, I trust Linksys, but have heard good thinks about Netgear as well...

[glb]Flame[/glb]I do love my Linksys WRT54G.  It is a 802.11G router.Hey, D-Link is relatively good as well.

Oh, and I believe that aside from the speed difference, there's also a stability and range difference between B and G.  G beats B in all aspects, lol.  Rule of thumb - G = Good, B = BAD  .

Well, I have a B router and I'm happy with it, cause the range between the router and my adapter is really short, and my connection isn't that FAST to begin with, so speed isn't MUCH of an issue...

Solve : my computer's making me deaf - persistent ringing?

Answer»

My PC has a consistent RINGING.  Sometimes it's not so
BAD and I'm good at ignoring noises.  But sometimes
it's so bad I can't stand it - but I have to work.

Does anyone know why it's doing that or how to solve
it?

Cheers,
StephenDoes the ringing appear to come from the speakers, monitor, or computer itself?  Is it a RECOGNIZABLE noise of some SORT that you could describe here?

Most odd whining noises in computers that I have come across are a result of build up of DUST in the power supply or processor fans.  Canned compressed air normally cures this ailment. It's coming from the computer.  The only way I can
describe it is if you had a ringing in your ears - it's
just a high pitched noise.  Ha, but it's not my ears.

The dust build up sounds logical.  I'll give it a try, thanks.

Solve : processer differences?

Answer»

What is the common difference between an Intel 486 SX, Intel 486 DX, and PENTIUM microprocessors? ONE faster then the other.

The Intel 80486SX is the same chip as the 80486DX with one EXCEPTION: the LACK of an integrated math coprocessor

And a pentium microprocessors is just in a different class then the 486 processor.

But I have a questions, why do you want to know?

Solve : SHARP FO-3800M Scanner PLEASE help! working memory?

Answer»

I have got a SHarp Multifunction FO-3800M printer /scanner /fax.

I have had it WORKING fine on an older computer running Win XP.

I have tried to install in on a newer better computer, (still with XP but with 4GB ram instead of 256MB).

It previews the IMAGE fine with the scanner, but when i click SCAN to scan the image (using microsoft scanner).  It tells me there is not enough working memory to scan the image.

Can anyone please help?
ThanksJust a thought here TraceyE.  (I am not a scanner expert by any means).  But, I believe when a scanning program or scanner is talking about "memory" they are actually referring to space available in the temp folder or VIRTUAL memory.

You might want to clear out all the FILES in your temp folders.  XP uses a temp folder under "Documents and Settings\your user name\local settings\temp" and another under Windows\Temp.  There could even be one at C:\temp.

Other than that you may need to make sure you are using that latest drivers and software for the scanner for XP.

Just a couple of shots in the dark........

Good LuckThanks GARY... I tried that... No Luck Im Afraid

My PC has its C: called F: as I had a removable Pen drive in it when I formatted it once.

Do you think it could be this I was assuming not!

Thanks

Solve : Driver issue with CANON scanner?

Answer»

I am trying to install the driver for a CANON N1220U scanner on a WINDOWS 2000 system with sp4.

This scanner was previouosly installed and working on this system.

I purchased a SONY MONITOR with an embedded 4-port USB hub  and attempted to connect the scanner thru it. The system did not recognize the hub LOCATED in the BASE of the monitor and when I re-connected  the scanner to the USB port on the system it would not work.

I connected the scanner to another computer and it works. I connected another USB device to the computer and it works -elliminating those HARDWARE error possibilities.

I tried to re-install the CANON driver for the scanner. During the install the "install device wizard" overides my driver selection and TRIES to install a default windows driver and then the install completes but with an error at the end ;

"the installation failed because a function driver was not specified for this device instance"

I think I could successfully install the driver if I could get the wizard to not override my selection.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Solve : Unplug and ground.?

Answer»

I have SEEN this on a couple pages and it really got me wondering. 'Be sure to unplug the computer and when you have removed the cover, touch the metal frame to ground yourself'.
So here's the problem: If the computer is unplugged, how can touching the frame ground you? It's not connected to anything that is grounded.
And YES, I have a whole COLLECTION of Nits I have picked up on the way.   Isn't it cause the metal frame absorbs the static and such from your body?  Not too sure...  I don't do it, anyhow, lol...  Might explain why my computer keeps dying and I keep electricuting my fingers (I'm jk, btw, lol)jim_me2......Your comment about grounding yourself after the plug is PULLED is quite correct ..........Alway discharge any static buildup in your body .......BEFORE pulling the plug ....unless of course you have a proper ground strap , in which case it DOESNT matter .

Solve : Help with my PC?

Answer»

Hey guys,

I´m from brazil and my english is not so good as yours, so excuse me if I writte something wrong. The problem is: I have a computer and it doesnt starts. I dont known why. I turn it on and it stays in the black screen... nothing appears on the monitor. The monitor appears to be in the "stand by" MODE(orange ligth) and the computer doesnt Starts the POST tests. I remove the memory modules and the motherboard make some beeps... I think thats good cause the motherboard is not bad. I tried to turn it on with the basic pheripehals but the problem continue. I tried to CHANGE the video card and the problem still persists. So, I dont known what to do now... Advices ?? I´ll apreciate !

Thanks a lot.Do you have virus protection installed? Have you installed any new hardware/software prior to this incident?

[glb]FLAME[/glb]I've had the same problem, turns out that the pin on the video cable that tells the monitor to "wake up" was bent, therefore the monitor STAYED in standby mode. If possible, try a different monitor, and check the pins on the end of the video cable and make sure none are bent down. Also a problem with a virus and/or hardware could be possible, but I think it would be more of a hardware/software issue. I do not remember how (different motherboards are different.) but there is a jumper to reset the CMOS, but I can't tell you how because all motherboards are different. If it's not passing the POST test beep then chances are there is something wrong with the BIOS/CMOS settings. Possibly the BIOS battery is dead or going dead, which can corrupt settings. I have a computer where the clock will never stay SET because the RTC battery is dead (Real Time Clock battery).

Hi! On the bottom of the speakers that came with my HP Pavilion a320n it says:

HP 5187-2105 (I guess that's the model #  )

Solve : ARGH MY CPU!!or computer?

Answer» SOMEBODY?

Solve : i can't understand this solution....?

Answer»

Keyboard error or no keyboard present - Cannot initialize the keyboard.   Make sure the keyboard is attached correctly and no keys are being PRESSED during the boot.  If you are purposely configuring the system without a keyboard, set the error halt condition in Setup to HALT ON ALL, BUT KEYBOARD.  This will cause the BIOS to ignore the missing keyboard and continue the bootKind of hard to get to the bios without a keyboard huh?
Well it appears that your keyboard has gone bad and your computer is set to not boot without one.

Have you done anything new to the computer, new hardware, new software?  Check the keyboard connections.  Maybe the dog decided it would LIKE a keyboard cable snack.  If that doesn't work, borrow a working keyboard and SEE if the problem goes away.

What type of keyboard are you using?  PS2, USB, etc.

i'm using a ps2 keyboard. i have tried 3 already. how cani get to the bios w/o the keyboard? thnks...how can i get to the bios? i have tried 3 already but those didnt work. i dont know if my bios supports usb keyboard. it is Award modular bios 1.10ce13s. thanks...Basically, you can't.

Why don't you try to borrow a usb keyboard from a friend to see if it will, in fact, solve your problem? If every keyboard you've tried was PS2, then your best solution would most definitely be to get a USB keyboard.  From the fact that there actually is a PS2 port on your motherboard, it can be assumed that your motherboard has PS2 support...

Is this a new computer?  Or did this problem suddenly start happening?  If you're good with computers, sorry to insult your intelligence by asking this - did you connect the keyboard to the RIGHT port?  You might've switched the keyboard and mouse...  Anyhow, if this isn't the CASE, it may be that the PS2 port on your computer is jacked up.

Solve : Camera Clicks?!?

Answer»

Ok, so I'm relatively self sufficient with computers, and I solve most problems myself, but this one's got me totally stumped.  I also consulted some of my computer-buff friends, but they were all left clueless as well.  Well, here's the problem - my computer spontaneously (USUALLY several hours after boot) starts making these odd clicking noises that oddly RESEMBLE a camera click...  These clicks continue until I reboot the computer... Then, it spontaneously starts again - the cycle continues.  I was wondering if anybody can help me with this problem...  If it helps, here's some basic information about my computer -
P4 2.4GHz, 512MB RAM, XP Pro SP2, on 802.11b network, use CA EZ Armor antivirus/firewall.Try this... Unplug ALL wires going to your computer... Next, open the case over a TILE floor on a table (usually the case is held by CREWS or clips) ... Next, ground the electricity from your body by touching the inner metal frame of your computer... Next, look at your computer's fan, and make sure that it is not only clean, but that nothing is stuck inside, which is making this "clicking" noise... (a wire, etc.)  Keep in touch...

[glb]Flame[/glb]Oh, sorry for being a bit unclear on this.  The clicking sound is coming from my speakers, not the compuer itself.  It happens whether I have music running or not, so it's not that my sound is lagging....Oh. I see.... Have you tried downloading/installing the latest drivers for your sound card by going to your sound card manufacturer's website? Also, which operating system is this?

[glb]Flame[/glb]All my computers make that sound.  It's the start.wav file.  Happens when NAVIGATING web pages.  Look in Control Panel--Sounds and Multimedia.  Scroll down to Windows EXPLORER--Start Navigation.  Play the sound.  Is that what you hear?Yup, I already have the latest drivers...  And nope, it's not "start.wav"...  It's like, 10x as loud, and it's a bit longer.

And this is XP Pro SP2...  Already said that above, lolAre the speakers USB powered? I've had this problem with Altec Lansing speakers that are USB powered. It seems to be something with the computers USB bus. Any speakers not USB powered worked without the loud clicking/buzzing.Well, first off....  My speakers are indeed Altec Lansing, but they aren't USB powered.  It's the Altec Lansing Series100...  It's just an AC powered speaker set with a subwoofer and such - the problem hasn't happened for the last few days, so I'm assuming it's gone now (Crosses fingers)...

Solve : System Startup Problem?

While booting it gives ERROR message 110 F000:D5DA & then it hangs
Can anyone tell me the problem & solution for that
I couldn't find that error code anywhere on the NET. What operating system are you using? Is there any on-screen indication as to what routine or program issued the message? At what point during the boot did the message APPEAR?

The smiley face really doesn't HELP your cause.

Get BACK to us.  Upon further checking, I did find that if you are getting the error message from the POST, then all indications point to a system board memory parity error.

Documented at:

I didn't have your model number, but I couldn't find that errror under any other NetVista models.

Hope this helps.

Solve : Floppy drive runs after I start program?

When I start up certain programs, the FLOPPY drive starts running but the file has nothing to do with the floppy drive. The file opens up with no problems, it is just annoying, and appears to start my program up slower. There is usually a shortcut on most programs such as Word and XL that allows the LAST 4+ DOCUMENTS viewed to be QUICKLY accessed. If ONE of these was on floppy then the Program will try to access it ready for quick linking

Solve : MAJOR slowdown?

Answer»

Hi! First I would like to say hi to everybody. I'm new here!

I'm having problems with my computer. It's a P4, 3Ghz, 1Gig of Ram, and 120 Gig HD.

It started running slow a while back, then recently it got REALLY slow. So I backed up everything and reformatted, thinking this would solve my problems. It didn't, they got worse. So now I'm clueless, what could be going wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!Which operating system are you using?

[glb]Flame[/glb]Windows XPI COULD be wrong, but Windows XP "eats up" a lot of that HARD disk space of yours.. Everything else on your computer looks like it should be fast!

[glb]Flame[/glb]Flame, buddy OLE pal, I think the post says the HD is 120GB O crap! You're right!    Sorry everyone! It's about 8:00 here in Florida, so I'm a LITTLE out there right now... lol   Sorry again!
[glb]Flame[/glb]Being that I was too tired in my last post, lets troubleshoot! (I'm awake now, don't worry!)    Have you scanned for viruses and Spyware?

[glb]Flame[/glb]Flame, Wake up again, he said he has just formatted his disk and it is just as bad!

Theorectically a format and re-install should have resovled your problem..mmm this seems strange especially with a clean install, tell me what other programs have you installed to it and after you are in windows how much memory is left and ONE more thing what is the cpu usage, you can check all this is task manager, look at the performance and process tab.

KimUnless the user keeps on doing the same thing to get the virus again... Ex. Downloading a program that you think is good and is supposed to help, but is actually a virus... Not easy to explain or understand, but I've seen it happen...

[glb]Flame[/glb]Well, when I first started the computer up after the reformat, it was really slow. I tried installing my drivers that came with the computer and it was installing rediculously slow. After I got through that and got the Internet up and working, I started downloading the Windows updates. Then the computer started GETTING faster and more reliable.

It's not too bad now, I'm able to install my programs easily and there not be much slowdown, but it could be faster.

When I'm in Windows, there's about 486168 K of memory available. And my CPU usage is only about 8%Well.... You seem to be doing better... Lets try to "fill-up" that room for improvement... Tell me... Do you have a registry cleanup program?

Solve : OpenGL Problem?

Answer»

It started 3 weeks or so when I was playing CS. I alt+tab CS so I could check on a site when CS crashes on me and I get this error.

I restarted my computer only to find out I can no longer play any game in OpenGL mode. After visting microsofts WEBSITE I found out that I should update my video drivers. I now go to the INTEL website to download a driver for my Intel 82845G/GE/PE/GV Extreme Graphics Video CARD. After downloading and installing the driver I restart the computer, only to find out I still can not play any game in OpenGL mode. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, system recovery (which failed), checked my computer for viruses (none where found by AVG or eTrust EZ Antivirus), checked for spyware (SpyBot, Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE PERSONA, and SpySweeper found nothing), and the OpenGL Extensions Viewer. YET, nothing has worked OpenGL still does not work and I am out of ideas. Can anyone help me?

Solve : Need some serious help?

Answer»

I tried to turn on my computer last night, and I CANT get to a POST.  My wife had been on the computer about 2 hours earlier and said EVERYTHING was fine at that time.  So, here is the full story:

I turn on the computer, and there is initial activity.  This is stuff like the processor fan, power supply fan, and case fan all start, the CD drives start to spin and their activity lights come on.  Then.... nothing.

Here is my current system config:

Motherboard: MSI K8T800 NEO2-F
Processory: AMD 64 3500+ Slot 939
Memory: Kingston DDR333 PC2700 512MB (x4)
Hard Drive: Western Digital 200GB 7200 SATA
DVD Drive: PIONER DVR-108 DVD+/-RW Dual Layer
CD Drive: Samsung 52x/32x/52x CD-RW
Video Card: Radeon RW9600-256MB
Sound Card: Voyetra/Turtle Bay Santa Cruz
Power Supply: ATOP 500W Power Supply
Operating System: Windows XP Home

I need to get this up and running ASAP - if anyone can tell me where to look that would be much appreciated

The first thing to do is to open the case and make sure that no cables attached to any drives have worked loose. This includes power cables with molex connectors.
If that doesn't help, post again and we'll go from there.I have had that problem several times before with a western digital drive, actually three, so I switched to a different brand and havent had that problem since. Before you go out and buy another hard drive, if you have an old drive, TRY it, if not borrow one. Also check to see if your cpu is BURNED up..Oh does the monitor come on? Is it black? Could be the video card if it is. Anyway check all the possibilities...

Solve : DOS Refresher?

Answer»

I am trying to set a hard drive to boot like a boot disk. The last time I did this was years ago, and if memory serves, I had to load command.com, autoexec.bat, config.sys and  mscdex and then I had to edit autoexec.bat and config.sys. I'm trying to load windows 2000 on an older laptop that shares a single bay between the cd rom and the floppy drive.
I'm drawing a blank here on the way to pull this off. Any ideas?I take it this laptop computer cannot be configured to boot to CD.  Is that correct?

MANY of the older models that would not allow that, but came with interchangeable drives also came with a cable that you could connect between the floppy drive and the laptop, thus allowing you to have the CD in the bay and boot to the floppy.

Just thinking out loud here...........
If not you will need to use the floppy drive to format the hard drive, install dos, find the appropriate CD drivers, load them on the hard drive, edit the autoexec.bat and config.sys (the specs should be included with the dos drivers).  Problem here is Windows 2000 wants to install to FAT32 or NTFS formatted partitions. That's EXACTLY why I don't want to GO through all of that. I could install DOs, then windows 3.11, (Istill have it). I could then upgrade to win 95 and I could change the file allocation table from 16 bits to 32 bits and upgrade to windows 98 and then upgrade to 2000 allowing 2000 to change my hard drive partition to NTFS; but, ... why go through all of that when there is a way to copy a boot disk to the hard drive in such a manner that it will boot? Windows 98 setup disk used to boot to a virtual a:>/ drive if memory serves. Some Windows 98 boot disks used to create a
RAM drive at D:, it included system tools etc. but the command processor was still on A:

Problem is you're talking about loading the command processor into a RAM Drive, then switching out the drive bay and reprocessing the autoexec.bat and config.sys from the RAM Drive.

I have never had OCASSION to do that but it sounds like an interesting exercise.I did it once years ago, messing with ANOTHER old laptop.I've done this on several computers:  one has only a hard drive (no floppy and no CD), another has a floppy and no CD.  Here is a suggestion:
Remove HD from notebook and install in desktop.  Perform your Win2k installation on the desktop and move drive back to notebook computer.  If you are lucky, it will boot.  If not, just make it a DOS bootable hard drive with CD support.  Of course, you will need a 2.5 to 3.5 disk drive adapter kit like this:

I already tried that, and I was not lucky.

Do you know how to adjust the autoexec.bat and config.sys files so that it will boot from the hard drive??

2.  No.  If the compuer won't turn on, how would you do this?

...i have tried to flash bios from floppy but it doesnt even access the drive

I was hoping that wouldn't be the case.  Most BIOS's have a protected area called the "Boot Block".  This allows recognition of the floppy drive.  It appears that your's is gone.  There are some 3RD party flash BIOS routines that allow rewriting of the Boot Block.  The one time I tried one, it took a partly functioning BIOS and completely killed it.

Is your motherboard still under warranty?  Contact Gigabyte, maybe they can offer you some assistance.Thankyou for all your help Computer_Commando
much appreciatedIt appears that maybe the Q-Flash routine in your BIOS crashed.  Tell Gigabyte exactly what HAPPENED and maybe they will send you a new motherboard.

Solve : PC closing down?

Answer»

Previously posted this on another forum but no one has replied yet, can anyone help.

Post follows -

I managed to find a site that explained a bit more about the COMMAND interpreter problem. Anyway when i REBOOTED the system it got further displayed and few lines of data then rebooted itself again then it hung at - extracting tools.

When I rebooted again the whole screen was full of characters and didn't look good. I then followed your ADVISE and replaced hard drive etc. I done a virus scan on her HD and it was infected with 2 viruses and infected about 3500 FILES. AVG managed to heal the drive ok, copied over what I needed to also.

I set the system back up again, switched on and all looked good went through the boot sequence the ME windows splash screen appeared and then it rebooted brought up the ME splash screen again and then hung in that screen. Thought I would then just install XP, the disc starts to boot from the cdrom but I get no visual and just hangs on this message.

My sisters original problem was her PC closing down that's why I went through everything and my last resort was the Mobo. Do you think the viruses that where on her HD might have been causing the problem. Prior to the removal of hardware her system BOOTED up to the desktop ok but then just closed down after a few mins.

Many thanks for all your help and advise so far.

Solve : Problems after reformatting?

Answer»

Hello. I have been trying all DAY to sort this out & now have to ask for help. I have an old P133 which had 2 HDD & CD-ROM. Computer started to run slow so I thought to reinstall Win 98SE from scratch by fdisk & reformatting HDD. The second HDD was COMPRESSED & when I tried to uncompress it spat the dummy. No problem..just remove that drive & do what I was going to do. Have reformatted OK but in trying to reload Win 98 it does not recognise E drive. Have checked all connections (OK) have tried other CD-ROM's (no difference). Keep getting error CDR101. Have downloaded & tried to instal the driver again, but still no go. No more ideas!!!!With the other HDD removed it may have moved your CD to the next logical drive letter which will now be D:\In Win98 you might have to manually change the drive letter in Autoexec.bat or the config.sys file

KimI have also tried to use D drive ...no good. Apart from the error message CDR101 it indicates an invalid drive. To Kim TANG. I cant load WIN98. Is there somne way I can MOD these files before loading?Boot up using a Win 98 start up disk with CDROM support.  You should remove your 2nd hdd so that you have only one hdd, your system will DEFAULT that to C: so the CDROM will be D:  the bootup floppy disk should have the CDROM drive defaulted to D: thus your CDROM driver will load and look for D: drive.  Once you have the CD working you can begin loading Win98.

If you don't have a win98 startup disk then you may have a friend with a PC running on Win98 he can make you a startup disk in Windows run command type format a: /s to transfer the system files and you can add your own CDROM driver if his is not compatible with your.

Kimthx to all who offered suggestions. I have solved problem now...it appears to be a combination of a bad IDE cable & a dirty CD ROMThankyou for the feed back, we are glad to help.
