Solve : problems with a windows 7 install?

Answer»

I have a Fujitsu laptop that I don't USE much. I had Windows 10 installed. I got an ISO file from digital river of Windows 10 to put a fresh install on the computer. After I put the dvd in and when it ask me what drive I WANT the OS on I get the screen saying Setup was unable to create a new SYSTEM partition or locate an existing system partition. The drive I want to put it on is empty. Anyone have any suggestions?I installed Kali Linux on my laptop and I can use it again.OK. So the laptop works good on Linux.
Others have noted that a Linux install can make it hard to install Windows 10. Why? Because all regular versions of Windows will not overwrite a UNIX drive.

The commended way to fix this is as follows:
A. Get a new or used Hard Drive that been set to work with Windows. This is also called MS-DOS mode.
B. Or, get a tolerable CD of the GParted program or any Linux live CD with GParted .
Use it to WIPE or format the drive and set it to MS-DOS mode.

GParted
http://gparted.org/download.php

This is not new information. It was documented elsewhere. Here is a thing on Tom's Hardware about this compatibility issue.
Need to switch a Linux hard drive back to Windows

Hope you understand this.

Solve : Windows & scrolling problems?

Answer»

Hi All. I use Windows 7 pro with IE 10. Very often the scroll button on my mouse will not do anything. I have already tried different mice, all with the same affect Any advice would be Welcomed Thank You.When pointer STOPS working do the right or left clicks still function to where its only a positioning issue with the mouse moment not happening?
Also will the keyboard continue to function or is that unresponsive as well would would point out that the entire computer is freezing vs just the mouse?

System Checks to perform if the computer is also not responding to right or left clicks during this time are to see if the hard drive LED is lit with activity. Does the hard drive pass crystaldiskinfo to show that the hard drive is healthy? Does the system pass memtest86 to show the RAM is healthy after about 3 hours of it running without any errors? Is this computer clean of all malware and virus's? Have you tried using a corded mouse instead of cordless if the mouse is cordless to eliminate the possibility that its only an issue with cordless mice?

If this is a desktop computer with PS2 ports available... if it comes down to just mouse controls gone, I would FIND a PS2 mouse for the computer. Shut computer down and attach the PS2 mouse, boot system and see if the issue continues or if its fixed. If the problem is fixed by PS2 mouse then you know your dealing with USB mouse only problem.

Hmm, I'm wondering why you would be using IE10 since IE11 was released for Windows 7 on 7 November 2013. Can you cite specific examples of instances where you BELIEVE you should have scroll capability with your mouse but you do not have it? Can you post a screenshot of such an instance? Do you see a scrollbar on those apps/windows where you are expecting scroll capability but find it unavailable?

Solve : New SSD and OS won't boot without the old hard drive plugged in?

Answer»

I got an SSD recently. Installed Windows 7 on it and installed all the applications I planned on using with it, and it works great! Trouble is, for some reason, I can't boot to it unless my old HDD is also enabled. The OS on my new SSD and the OS on my old drive might be the same version of Windows, but they're completely separate, so I don't know why this is happening. I even copied the System Reserved partition from my old drive to the SSD to see if that would make it start on its own, but that didn't work. What I wanna know is, why is the new drive dependent on the old one in order to boot up when it has all the necessary files to do so itself?

I mean, I did a clean install on the drive. It should be able to boot up on its own.. This is why i never leave other HDD;s connected when installing an OS....

Disconnect the old HDD...boot to your install media and run a Repair Install.

That will put a bootsector on the new HDD where it belongs,... erased what I said.... I was going to ask what PORT each drive was using for SATA ports such as if the SSD was using a SATA port 2 or higher in which it should be using SATA port 0, whereas it might be at SATA port 2 and using the HDD at SATA port 0 or 1 as a band aid for misconfigured SATA cables. Having doubts this is the case so I erased this, but SHARING my thoughts anyway. Might be worth checking into this, however Patio is probably SPOT on with his help here. Thanks for the reply you guys! I had actually gotten the answer in the chatroom while I was waiting.

The drive was neither marked as Active, nor did it have the boot files. Easy fix. Supposed to do that before the OS install...PS...Primary...and active.

Glad yer fixed up.

Solve : Can't type in Password after Sleep mode?

Answer»

This is happening more and more frequently after I wake up my computer from Sleep Mode. It will open to the sign in screen, but it won't allow me to type in the Password. The white area where you type in passwords just remains blank. I have to go to Switch User and Restart Computer in order to get to the sign in screen and then it works. Has anyone else had this problem? You may want reviews some material about sleep mode. What it really means is that you should not use sleep mode unless you have a very good reason to want it.
http://www.pcworld.com/article/256309/tweeking_windows_7s_sleeping_habits.html
(Ignore the ads)
Quote

But first, let me explain the difference between sleep and hibernation. When a PC enters sleep mode, it saves electricity by shutting down most of its components. But it uses some power to keep Windows, running programs, and data in RAM, allowing it to wake up ALMOST instantly. When a PC HIBERNATES, it copies everything in RAM to the hard drive, than shuts down the hardware completely. It takes longer to wake up, but while it's down it saves even more power.

The amount of true power saving is not much anyway.
Thank you for your help. I did as the instructions said and set it to HIBERNATE after 30 minutes. I assume that it will wake up with a keystroke or moving the mouse, same as the Sleep Mode. Hopefully, this will make a difference in the sign on problem. The best thing to do with Windows power save features is to turn them all off...If Geek's SUGGESTION does not solve the sign on problem after Hibernation then I will do as you suggest and not use either of them. Thank you for your INPUT.

Solve : Please chanche my ip?

My ip has corupted please chanche it!Call your Internet Provider...

BTW IP's don't get "CORRUPTED".
LUCI, a simple way to renew the IP is to just unplug the modem or router for a short TIME. Then when You plug it in again, it will renew the IP and the CONNECTION should be BETTER. That works for me. Sometimes.

Solve : Windows updates say "never" and wont install?

Answer»

I have no idea how it happened, but my windows updates do not show (for 2016) and when I try to download updates-it just looks like it is trying but never does who any progress.

Any suggestions on a work around for this?

I'd tried doing a system restore, but that did not work either.

Windows 7
Satellite L750-A7280
AMD A6-5200 APU with Radeon HD Graphics 2.00 GHz
6 gb installed Ram
64-bit system

Internet Explorer stops working often lately, and that is main reason I was trying to update, and figure out why.

Thank you.Was system restore completed with the MEDIA to bring the system back to new factory build just as you bought it ( or ) did you only use a restore point?Restore point.Do you have your system recovery media to install fresh?Do you mean "fresh" as in reinstall the windows 7 itself? that would wipe out everything I have on here right?
No, I don't have it but would not want to wipe everything out.

Was hoping someone knew how I could download updates perhaps onto a CD and then install them, if my computer won't allow direct from Microsoft.Well you would backup your data first before wiping everything out, but yes a possible solution is to backup your important data to an external drive or cloud storage, and then reinstall the OS fresh clean install from the System Recovery Media that you may have to create yourself on DVD-R discs or 1 or 2 USB sticks using the media creator that came with the computer.

There is a "very manual process" of updating computers, but its a lot of work: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/323166

My suggestion is to backup your data which may not already be backed up or stored on cloud storage and go the ROUTE of a clean installation. Its a security risk if you DECIDE to go forward with a crippled computer that wont take updates on its own. You will have to install each update one by one and if you dont stay up to date with them your system could be compromised. Additionally some updates have dependencies that they be installed following another update prior to it and if you get them out of ORDER you can run into troubles.

Solve : Blue Screen shut down help?

Answer»

Flakey PSU When I tried to do a bluescreenview report, it is blank. Is there another WAY to find this?
thank you.Take a look in c:\windows\minidump and see if there are any .dmp files dated this past weekend. If so, please upload them. Also, you can look in Event Viewer, but candidly it will probably be tough to identify what we need from there. Next time(s) the blue screen pops up just make note of the specific error message / code. If the codes are different each time then you have a piece of hardware that has failed or is failing. It could be the PSU as patio suggested or it could be the motherboard, cpu, or something else. Not sure how, or why, but the minidump FOLDER you mention below is empty, and no .dmp files shown when I do computer search.

I did write down the last error which SAID; System_Service_Exception

Each blue screen error has been different. So...as far as the PSU-it does run, but if there is a break in power, could it cause this? Is their a way to test the PSU for that? The best test which is Free is to borrow a known good one and swap it in there...
You will KNOW overnight whether it's the issue or not...Since each error has been different it is almost certainly a piece of hardware that has failed. No harm in starting with the psu as suggested. My guess would be that or the motherboard. Unfortunately the only way to know for sure is to exchange the hardware for a version you know is good.Quote from: Allan on November 07, 2016, 08:56:06 AM

Right on !
Hardware is tested by substitution. The Power supply is a place to start.
Took this baby into a computer place, and planned to have him put in different CPU to try that. He looked inside the tower, and showed me that the capacitors were bad-rounded on the tops. He suggested we have that fixed, and give it a try then. I will go pick it up today, and will let you all know if that resolved the issue. Thanks for the UPDATE. Good luck

Solve : Windows Freezes after Startup?

Answer»

Recently, my friend's old computer running WIN XP is encountering problem that causes Windows to freeze after startup. It's not responding to any mouse or keyboard input. The mouse and keyboard are both tested working on other system, and other mouse and keyboard are also tested on this system and it doesn't work either.

It happens like 9 out of 10 times starting the computer. During the "LUCKY" one time when it works, it works normally, except with error messages (Error signature) like these after startup:

BCCode : c0000218 BCP1 : E1989490 BCP2 : 00000000 BCP3 : 00000000
BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 3_0 Product : 256_1

or

BCCode : c0000218 BCP1 : E1A1AFD8 BCP2 : 00000000 BCP3 : 00000000
BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 3_0 Product : 256_1

Despite error message like above, it will works normally. But other times, no error message, no response.

Note: I posted this on the XP board last week but no REPLY. I assume this could happen on other VERSION of Windows too. Id suggest testing the hard drive with crystaldiskinfo, as WELL as if the drive is healthy plan on a repair installation of Windows XP.

Solve : Play Sound(s) on Application(s) Launch?

Answer»

Excuse me Please:

While the title might seem painfully obvious, and in winXP sounds actually did PLAY when an applications were launched.

However, in win7proSP1, it has been noted that regardless of which .wav file is listed in Control Panel/Sound/Sounds tab under Open Program, this OS does NOT play said .wav file.

I have attempted to do searches via Google and here and have only found a reference of the use of a batch file and sndrec32.exe from Windows XP.

It seems sad (but not unsurprising when one considers a certain corporation being averse to ACCOUNTABILITY) that one has to rebuild functionality.

Is there a way in which one can have X .wav played, either generically when *ANY* executable is manually or automatically launched, or more preferably, assign x .wav files to y executables?

Thank you kindly for the assistance in this small, but distinct problem. I cannot reproduce your issue. Launching applications will play the sound specified in "Open Program" on Windows 7 for me.hhmm, then you are probably running a default install with EVERY service running. typical of M$. to continuously break things apart that are working perfectly fine in a previous OS.
I am running a streamlined system, with superfluous services disabled, suggesting there is a non-intuitively named service which AFFECTS the use of the .wav files(s).
I so chagrin this bit of research; as I spent days finding all the now additional services to enable JUST to enable networking (/e rolls eyes)Hmmmm...my guess is your streamlined ver of Windows...and the fact you have disabled who knows which superfluous services is most likely the cause of your current dilemna.Christopher...That's a rather important detail to omit.

outside of the obvious services like Multimedia Class Scheduler, Windows Audio Endpoint Builder, and Windows Audio which are obviously audio related, I'm able to disable all services which have an available "Stop" option in the Services Management Console and the "Open Program" sound event still functions correctly. Remaining services aside from those:

  • Windows Event Log
  • Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework
  • User Profile Service
  • Security Accounts Manager
  • RPC Endpoint Mapper
  • Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
  • Power
  • Plug & Play
  • Group POLICY Client
  • DCOM Server Process Launcher
  • Application Information

Is this a copy of Windows that is altered on the original Media? I've found... I mean, I've heard that torrented install media often includes changes that will break components of windows for certain configurations.

Solve : Windows Backup and Restore shows blank page?

Answer»

Hey guys,

recently I tried to update my backups, yet as the title states, it's a BLANK page.

I'm almost pulling my hair out over this, as I've went into local services and changed the Windows BACKUP service to "automatic" (it was DISABLED), and when I attempted to start the service after applying the automatic setting, I got a 1053 error. I went to Microsoft's website for the fix, which was installing .NET framework 1.1 and applying a Service Pack 1 patch. I just restarted the machine, went back into local services and still get the 1053 error.

My current set-up is thus: an ASUS G74SX BBK-7 laptop computer with Windows Home Premium 64 bit installed. The only major software change I can think of installing is the Samsung Magician wizard, which I needed to manage my new SSD.

Thank you in advance.I was able to fix the issue by myself. Posting a reply in the event other users may have the same issue.

I opened the Command Prompt under an administrative account, input sfc /scannow and then regsvr32 sdrsvc . I allowed the disk checker (sfc /scannow) to run and repair any corrupted files, then completed the subsequent registration (regsvr32 sdrsvc) successfully.

Finally, I re-opened services, set Windows Backup service to Automatic setting, clicked apply, OK, then I began (STARTED) the service. It worked.

Thanks anyhow. Thanks for informing us of your solution.

Solve : Time on the screen?

Answer»

Hi -
I hope I can make my problem plain enough to understand. When I have the computer on and something is on the screen, I might want to leave it on while I check on something else. If I do nothing for one minute the screen goes black. Of COURSE if I move the mouse it comes back on. What I want is to increase the one minute to much longer. Where is the setting for this timing? I am running Windows 7 and using IE 11. Thanks Bob Laptop or desktop PC?

Salmon Trout -
I have a Lenovo desk top. I did not realize that made a difference. Thanks for the reply. Bob
Check if your screen saver is set to Blank

Go to Control Panel, click on Personalization, and then click on Screen Saver at the bottom right. Check it is set to None. PLEASE report back what you found.

Thanks to you it worked fine. My screen saver is labeled "blank". However there was a place to change the time so I gave it 5 minutes. Works just like I wanted it to. Thanks again BobQuote from: bobhlgh on August 03, 2016, 03:01:08 PM

Solve : Where to find & how to upgrade Vista to Win 7?

Answer»

Never seems to get any EASIER on how to update or upgrade Windows, but I'm coming up short on where to find the exact location of the vista to WIN. 7 upgrade download or other methods how to ? I used the Microsoft Advisor 7 which says my two Vista are ready to be upgraded to WIN.7 ,but even after re-searching through Microsoft downloads, store, my Vista anytime upgrades I find no clear solution where or how to find the right VERSION then upgrade ! Similar to putting a jigsaw puzzled together & not knowing there are 3 pieces missing. I have two Vista's that both are ready to get upgraded as I am too for my1st time to upgrade to Win.7 like many other Windows owners out there Microsoft don't offer free upgrades from Vista to 7, you would have to purchase a copy of 7. Not sure if 7 is still being sold, if not you may need to consider buying a copy of 10.Not surprised as I thought I search well enough to find this some where else. Each time I would go to Microsoft I saw nothing but Win.10 for purchase most any other directions I took. I seen several ways to configure adding upgrades, but most all seem to COMPLEX or NEEDING to download promise programs to get you there. I have seen a true Microsoft avalible vista to Win7 upgrade Image (ISO)files, but not for sure that format would be a risk factor somehow to use instead ? Taking risky chances could just make things worse maybe

Solve : Not able to access programmes from all programmes on start menu?

Answer»

In recent months, I've been trying to understand why my start menu isn't accessing certain programmes. When I try to access something like the calculator, it doesn't show the appropriate icon (just a tiny blank page) and nothing happens when I CLICK on said icon.

This has affected other items, like Notepad, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, et cetera. These programmes work fine if I can link to them otherwise (desktop, pinned to start menu, calculator button on number pad), but it's kind of irksome to not have convenient access as designed. Would anyone have any idea why? What I can do to mend this condition?

My computer is an ASUS G74SX BBK-7 laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit installed. The only major changes I've made to this machine was install Samsung Magician, which was necessary to MANAGE an SSD I purchased to replace my old C drive. After a clean install on the SSD, everything was fine at first. The Program Lisings is actually a series of shortcuts to the programs. For some UNKNOWN reason, some of your shortcuts have gotten CORRUPTED.

Go to the incorrect calculator icon and right click it. Select properties.
In the target field it should display this Code: [Select]%windir%\system32\calc.exe
I think yours is probably not pointing where it should. Copy what is in the code box and replace your target with the correct one. Hopefully, the icon will change to the correct one.

If that works, I'll go through the other items and post the correct targets.

If the icons are still incorrect, we can run something that will rebuild the icon cache.I went to properties and saw nothing in the target field.

I attempted to input your recommended target parameter, however, that portion of the calculator properties SCREEN will not allow me to type or paste anything.

I've also tried sending the short-cut to the desktop to edit, but I'm locked out all the same. It sure sounds like Windows is broken.
Run system file checker.
Here's how
http://www.thewindowsclub.com/how-to-run-system-file-checker-analyze-its-logs-in-windows-7-vista
Can you get to the Command prompt in Accessories, right click it and select Run as Administrator?
If so. after the command prompt windows opens, type sfc /scannowI did run system file checker before whilst attempting to resolve my previous issue with Windows backup and restore. It stated there were some corrupted files, yet it had successfully fixed them.

I ran the command prompt in Administrator mode just now to make sure, and it prints "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."

Solve : New E-Mail Source?

Answer»

Hiya Fellas' Through most of my computer years I used "Outlook Express" for my Windows e-mail...Then Windows stopped
supporting it, so I changed to "Windows Live". This program is not a patch of the old O.E. and now, because of Win 10,
we are having to change again! I nearly changed to Outlook instead of W.L. ..I wish I had now!

Anyway, I want to change from Live now to Outlook, but it looks quite a DAUNTING task..
Anyone know where I can get a good read me on the procedure, I would be greatly obliged.
Here is one:
http://www.surfaceforums.net/threads/how-to-switch-from-live-com-to-outlook-com.4557/

Top be clear, do you want an online email reader or one that can be used offline to read stored messages?

Programs that can read mail that was downloaded earlier are called A"email client' and are actual programs on your PC or tablet.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_email_clients

Services that offer e-mail have their own web programs the have to be used on-line. Here is a short list of e-mail services.
http://email.about.com/od/freeemailreviews/tp/free_email.htm

Most of the good services will let you do it your way. Either on the web using their software, or using a local client of your chicle. Preferably, you would want a service that gives the most versatility. That way any future change will be not so hard. But if things REALLY get to be tough, you would CONSIDER buying your own custom email service.

(FOOTNOTE. Many Internet Service Providers will not let you use SMTP for outgoing mail. The is a very annoying practice. )

Hotmail is the site (service) where you can log in and access your email. Outlook is the replacement to Hotmail, where it looks like Microsoft is trying to combine everything from Windows Live and Hotmail.Dec 17, 2012

This change of horse in mid stream is, IMHO, a bad choice on the part of Microsoft. People become used to some TERMS and names and it is confusing to change.
Here is just one of many articles about this.
http://outlookpower.com/article/what-is-microsoft-office-outlook-live/
The above article is censusing even to me, and I have been using windows for years now. To quote Bill Gates, "This most stupid thing."
The article says it will copy mail from your POP accounts and copy it into some other place somewhere.

In short, the 'new' outlook is really a web program. I think.
This might be one of the reasons people shy away from the MS mail concept.

ideology.

Windows Live Mail is an email client; is is bundled as part of Microsoft Essentials; see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17779/download-windows-essentials Microsoft needed a new email client when Outlook Express for Windows XP and previous versions of Windows was abandoned, and for Windows Vista users moving on to Windows 7 since Vista came with Windows Live, an email client specifically designed for, and only compatible with, Windows Vista.

Did you mean Microsoft Outlook that is bundled with Microsoft Office, or Outlook.com? Yes, my confusion. It was Windows Live Hotmail that they called it for a short time. Interestingly, Windows Live Mail's first search result goes to one's Microsoft account inbox. (The wikipedia entry documenting that it is not the same is lower down).

Outlook.com I guess. Being an old "Lotus" man, I am not at all happy with "Office" ..either in performance or price! Well guys I have installed Thunderbird and I think I will use this for the time being! Anything to get away from WLLM!

Solve : windows randomly crashes and shows only vertical lines?

okay so for about the past month or 2 now regardless of what im doing windows within a few hours my sound will cut and whatever im doing will stop responding and then a few seconds later my screen suddenly jumps to this http://i.imgur.com/bn1RG5J.jpg and i have to entirly restart windows at that point and hope it doesnt crash again its been doing this more frequently and as fair as i can tell it leaves no error files. i dont think its anything overheating or being broken as my temps tend to be stable. it seems to do this far more frequently after i resume my pc from sleep but will sometimes do this even on a fresh boot up. however after if i restart my pc by shutting off the psu and turning it back on the pc doesnt seem to crash at all.
im fairly certain its not a hardware issue as it ran FINE for about a day when i had a live ubuntu cd running to see if it was just my hardware. i also reinstalled every driver INCASE it was a driver issue but to no avail
my system is as follows
windows 7, custom built pc intel xeon e3-1231, R9 390, 8gb ram 128gb ssd and a 1tb hard drive, and a wireless card
any help would be nice also if this is in the wrong sub forum sorry Most likely this is a hardware ageing problem and not a software issue. But I am often wrong. Can you restart in sage mode?
You say the temps are OK. Even so, try leaving the PC fully off for an ;hour and then restart it and see how long it goes doing something ordinary. There may be a component that is heat sensitive.

Solve : Both Alt keys broken?

Answer» My alt keys stopped working, but I don't really know when, but I think it was after I modded my GTA SAN Andreas and then I started playing the game, but it hanged up and I tried to do Ctrl+Alt+Delete but noting happened. I tried to do Alt+Tab, but nothing happened, instead it just switched the selection from New game to Load game, which tells me that the alt key doesn't work but only Tab does. I started to test stuff like Alt+123 but instead it just typed 123. I remapped it and tried to switch the RWindow button and RAlt and also the same with LALT and LWindow, nothing, instead, both the buttons didn't work. I tried to troubleshoot, nothing, I tried personalize, nothing, I tried to research about AltGr (Which is the combination of Alt and Ctrl) but I don't think that can HELP, I tried on-screen keyboard, the alt key doesn't respond. I don't think its the keyboard or any particle that got between it since I just cleaned it and never ate in front of it and I also tried remapping but both the button that I switched functions with didn't worked so please please help 'cause if you use Alt+Tab you'll know that it's so frustrating to be not ABLE to do that (I think that sentence was right).

Solve : Windows 7 laptops will not update?

Answer»

I am having this problem with two of my laptop computers. I cannot get the Windows Updates to install. It stays at 0% installed, and never gets past that.

I have tried all the suggestions that I could find from the Microsoft support forums, to no avail.

I recently tried System Mechanic on one of them, and it shows no updates have ever been downloaded (computer is 2 years old and of course I'd been doing updates), and it will not DOWNLOAD any updates now. Agh. So frustrating.

I tried to do a system restore on this one just now, and it would not complete the restore that I attempted.

Help.First of all, from the information you gave there is no quick easy fix for the problem as you describe it. It will help if you provide the name and model of the laptop. Also, do you have any backups? What kind of Anti-Virus do you use?
Geek - Why would the name and model of the laptop help with this ISSUE? And since the laptop has never updated, why would backups be helpful?

Suzan - unfortunately, GIVEN the fact you've tried the "normal" solutions I'd suggest your best bet is a clean install. Backup anything you need to keep and if you have a Windows DVD format the drive and reinstall from scratch (remember to download and install all drivers from the website of the laptop manufacturer). If not, you can use the recovery partition on the laptop.MS Tech Support is a FREE phone call...have you tried that ?

They can walk you thru it...What is a phone number for MS tech support. Would try that before doing a total reinstall of Windows.

What is funny is that when I look at update history, it does show updates-from a year ago. But on the main update SCREEN, it says it has never been updated.
This is a Toshiba Satellite L750-A7280 running AVG free anti-virus

I've done all the virus, malware scans so I am confident that it is not that.

Solve : Windows PE3.0 does not detect SSD — Driver Injection?

Answer»

I’m having an issue with getting Windows PE 3.0 to recognize hard drive. At least I think this is the problem. I’m attempting to boot a Dell Latitude E7470 Solid State Drive, Windows 7 64-bit machine from a WINPE3.0 USB thumb drive. Initially, before I dug into injecting drivers, I would plug in USB and boot from USB and the Windows PE grey SPLASH screen would show and attempt to load system files and then it would fail and restart and load Windows PARTITION normally.

I try to boot from WINPE again and I press f8 quickly to access a COMMAND prompt, and run diskpart to see what drives are being detected. It TURNS out that WINPE3.0 is not detecting my solid state drive.

I then search out the right drivers for this model and I find out that I need these two: Picture: https://sli.mg/5pV7nu

I run 7zip to EXTRACT out these files/folders and then I run DISM to mount my boot.wim (from WinPE) and run the DISM command to inject the drivers into the unmounted .wim file.

I try two different ways of injecting drivers:

1) The first way is I use the DISM command to add in the drivers with the recurse switch option. I put all driver files above in one folder and run recurse. Picture: https://sli.mg/H9InCw

This inject works and takes a few minutes. I then unmount and commit and copy over my newly injected WINPE package and copy it over to my USB and attempt to boot and it gives me an error pointing to a .sys file. I tried deleting the .sys file but I realize that this won’t work because the .sys is unpackaged and has many dependencies tied to it.

2) Next, I narrow my focus inject only relevant drivers. I inject each driver and point to an .inf file and no success. I then point to the folder containing the driver files and no success. This time I get the same problem with WINPE just failing to detect driver and restarting.

What am I doing wrong here? Is this some problem with WinPE3.0 and SSDs because I tried this same WINPE3.0 environment on a different model Dell laptop (Win 7 64-bit) with a HDD and it works fine.

I appreciate any guidance here. Is there anything I’m missing? Thank you.

Solve : PC RESTARTS AUTOMATICALLY?

Answer»

Hi after shutting down my pc it is automatically power on and starts without power button on.what shall i do.Go into BIOS and disable Power On Features like WoL or others that dont use the power button, then save the changes. You MIGHT have WoL enabled. Also seen a keyboard do this too with a cat around and a key gets bumped with Power on feature of by key press.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake-on-LAN

If its not this as the cause then it could also be a faulty power supply with ripple, or a motherboard with a capacitor that has failed that is allowing for ripple to trigger a FALSE soft-power on condition. The power button when pressed uses the soft-power on state. If the motherboard thinks that the button was tapped when it wasnt it can boot it back up.

Hopefully its an easy BIOS config change with WoL. I had a Zotac motherboard system come with WoL enabled by default and for some reason a WoL INSTRUCTION was on my local network causing it to boot up on its own, not sure which device was causing WoL to sense a boot condition either. Disabled WoL and problem went away.If it's a new build you may have the Pwr and Reset headers backwards on the front of the case...Quote

If it's a new build you may have the Pwr and Reset headers backwards on the front of the case...

I was thinking about this too, but if its making connection in rest position without a finger pushing it if swapped between Power On and Reset, then the motherboard should be taking it as if someone walked up to computer pushed power button in and held there finger into it in which it should then PERFORM a hard shutdown after X-many seconds of the power button held in and not successfully boot. I havent found a motherboard yet that has the hard shutdown feature disable able by user.

I know that windows has customization of what to do with soft power button pressed. But....

Solve : PC restarts automatically, unchecked automatic restart?

Answer»

Hi,

My PC running Windows 7 ultimate is restarting automatically.

I already unchecked the automatic RESTART option from system settings.

Also, I disabled wakeup on lan option on my network adapter setting.

But, still PC starts automatically without blue screen.

I found out that most of the time, it restarts when I run videos or heavy applications like android studio.

Also, sometimes it restarts many times at interval of 1-2 seconds.

Anyone knows what is happening?

PC configuration:

i5 processor,
H61 motherboard (ECS)
Ram: KINGSTON- 8gb
hard disk: seagate 1TB
Network adapter: Realtek inbuilt

thanks in advance. If you've unchecked automatically restart it could be any number of things. First heat, have you recently checked the interior for dust? If not, you should do that first. Other possibilities:

1) Power Supply

2) Ram (run memetest to CHECK)

3) HD (download & run the hd manufacturer's diagnostic utility)

Those would be my initial thoughts.Hi Allan,

I checked Ram and dust.

By Power supply do you mean SMPS?

thanksI don't KNOW what smps is.

I mean your power supply. If you happen to have a spare one that you can try, you might want to do that.

Solve : Changing E--Mail Providers.?

Answer»

Hiya gents, I am using Windows Live Mail as my provider. I run Win 7 home and i want to move to another one. Because of Win 10 and all the ballyhoo, Outlook is looking good. I have come to you guys because I am not sure which way to go and my WLM is causing me no end of trouble, but it will have to go anyway. I am keeping away from Win10 for as long as I can! Your guidance and help here would be greatly valued my freinds. I WANT TO MOVE A.S.A.P! WLM and Outlook are Email CLIENTS not PROVIDERS. There's a big difference. Based on your post, I think you mean you want to switch from using WLM as an Email client and start using Outlook. Why not install it and try it? There are other clients as well such as Thunderbird, eM, Mailbird and others.

What specific features are you looking for?You are correct YOUNG man. I have just installed "MONZILLA" with some success. I am at the moment trying to export my address book and other files to Monzilla. WLLM is not having it however.

I am only looking for box standard e-mail medium..is all. One that gives me better service than this crippled Live Mail that I am using! Quote from: GLOOPS on July 20, 2016, 08:31:30 AM

The info at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/switching-thunderbird might help. I have not used the procedure explained there but I think the source is reliable. A search on migrating from windows live mail to thunderbird will yield many more references.

This is a long story my friend. Over time, my copy of WLM has become very 'BUGGY' ..at this moment it is throwing the same error message up at me every couple of seconds! The is no error! I have taken the problem to my internet providers "Virgin" and even they cannot solve the problem. There is no problem! So I am trying to get away as fast as I can. Installing Monzilla seems to have improved Live Mail some (you won't believe). Just as soon as I can get my stuff out of there, I will destroy it with great pleasure. Thanks for this CONNECTION MATE it is appreciated. In Monzilla there is supposed to be a "tools" menu. Do you know where thiss iss please??? Quote

Hiya Fellas!

Thanks for your help here.. I found the tools. All this is such a pain I am going to transfer my contacts manually.. I have WLM AND Thunderbird running now so I can sort from here I think. Concerned about Thunderbird, as I have started receiving mail form [emailprotected] who I do not know??? I delete the mail but its not a good start is it??? I have removed Thunderbird guys! Leaning more and more TOWARDS "Outlook" in some shape or form! Which way to go though??? Guess what I just found "Up to date Outlook Express" www.snipca.com/21230 Say's it will work for Win 10! WOW! My old OE ..a sight for sore eyes guys! You realise that's written by them...and not Microsoft correct ? ?A large number of e-mail clients are written for Windows. In theory at least, they all are compatible with Windows 10. Maybe a few exceptions.
Here is a helpful reference:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_email_clients
There is information about which protocols each client can use.
The list includes freeware and discontinued software.

Thanks you guys for your input here. On the ball as usual! I have Thunderbird and Windows Live Mail installed now. Believe it or not WLM is behaving itself at last! I am not looking forward to Win 10 with what I have heard about it. I shall run with Win 7 for as long as I can lads before moving. So I should be OK mail-wise for now.

Solve : SVCHOST.EXE at 100% cpu?

Answer»

I bought a Toshiba C655 laptop at a pawnshop for my nephew to use at home for school. It has W7 with an INTEL Celeron processor with 2GB of ram. The computer is really slow. I looked at the task manager. It shows svchost.exe at 99% cpu usage. I right clicked to show the services running. I researched what was running but I don't see ANYTHING unusual. I can stop the process with no ill effects to what I am doing. Is this computer just outdated for todays use?Well, based on what I can find on the internet, it was a low performer right from its introduction in the market. http://support.toshiba.com/support/staticContentDetail?contentId=2687252&isFromTOCLink=false indicates it can support up to 4GB of RAM, if that is the model you have. I'd visit www.crucial.com and see what the cost of increasing the RAM to 4GB would be. You need to know the exact model; it is not simply C655; you should see some characters following C655; they tell the exact model you have.I have the same problem with my Toshiba. As soon as it boots up I go into the Device Manager and end the svchost task and it works very well. I can give it back to the pawn shop for a better one. I will just add some more money to get a better one. A check on eBay for Toshiba C655 laptop shows the price RANGE is very wide. That is not GOOD news. You may do better with some other model.
(The wide VARIATION in price may mean that they are hard to resell and many users just want to dump them.) I took it back to the pawn and upgraded to an HP with an I5 processor. Works greatit seems to me that you forgot to see how fragmented the hard drive was? did you try to do a benchmark on all the components and see what was causing the issue? as a good rule of thumb before looking at the software you must first look at the hardware meaning start at layer one which is the physical layer than move up from there and you will find your culprit. my two cents. He solved his issue...The only problem I have with the HP was it searched for updates for 24 hours and never found any. It kept searching. Also on the fragmenting issue. I thought Windows 7 automatically defragged itself.I looked up the problem in Microsoft knowledge base. I will try their fix tomorrow. I had a similar problem on a Windows 7 virtual machine. I did some investigation and found that Windows Update service was causing svchost.exe to use all the CPU, and it would never find an update.

I eventually found the solution here https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3102810

You can't find this update because Windows Update service is broken. You need to stop the service, manually download the fix and install it, then reboot.

After doing that, and checking for updates again, I found another 238 updates available (1GB).

Unfortunately critical information is missing from the report (the bug check string). And it only says that the nt kernel is being affected.

I'm guessing it's a hardware conflict, but can't be sure. See if the emulator will WORK in safe mode. If it does, see if Windows allows it to run without crashing. If the emulator runs in safe mode without crashing the system, it's almost certainly a software conflict that we can troubleshoot. If the system crashes in safe mode, it's a hardware issue. However, it's possible the emulator won't run at all in safe mode. Give it a shot and let's see what happens.it doesnt start in safe mode but there is another issue when it does start (in normal mode) i lose access to my network i dont know if it helps but thats the 2 issues You said:

Solve : doc.file?

Answer»

I am on windows 7. How can I open a doc. file? THANK youIf your computer has Microsoft Office installed, you can use WORD to open the document. If not, there are many free programs on the internet you can use to view and edit .doc files...one of them being Open Office, which is a free, open source program.

You have the world at your fingertips. If all you need to do is view the OCCASIONAL .doc file, I have found Abiword (portable) to do this for me.

I have no need for an entire Office Suite so the other available suites would be overkill for my needs.

http://portableapps.com/apps/office/abiword_portable

I actually have it in a folder on my desktop but you can install it on a USB stick to run it when needed.

Here is another alternative
https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Use-Word-Online-to-read-and-print-documents-b7028bfd-8c8e-45cd-beea-00b6362fa3f8
I don't actually want to view the files online so I didn't CHOOSE this method.

And a 3rd alternative, installing a viewer to see .doc and .docx files on your computer
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=4
The downside to this is that it receives patches. So if you'd prefer not to have more patches, this might not be a good alternative.WorgPad.Forgot all about WordPad...good one, patio.thank you Glitch, I am sorted. Cheers, EdnaQuote from: adnil on August 14, 2016, 08:16:12 AM

Hi Guys, I want to remove Microsoft security essentials, but I cant find it in the add and remove section. I don't know if its part uninstalled or not. I can click on to the programme itself and it tells me updates are up to date. But if I try to turn on the real TIME proctection it wont do it. So how do I remove it totally from my system so that I can then re install a fresh copy to see if that works. Also the windows update tried to update the security essentials but keeps failing due to the fact that I think the programme is not running correct. Thanks in advance Jabba. What is the OS?My OPERATING system is INTEL core i5 2320 [emailprotected] 3.00 ghz 8gig ram 64 bit operating system using windows 7 home premium.Quote

But if I try to turn on the real time proctection it wont do it.
Please explain to me how you're doing that.
Why don't you just download MSE and install it again. If I understand, you do not see this when you open Programs and Features from the Control Panel.

[attachment deleted by admin to conserve space]correct plodrDownload and run the MS Security Essentials Removal Tool
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/microsoft-security-essentials-removal-tool/

BleepingComputer is a well known help site so it is safe to download a run a toll that is offered there.tried re installing mse and got error message 0x8004FF91 also tried plodr suggested but it took me back to the Microsoft support page as fix it programme no longer works.
Thanks JabbaMost common cause of this is there was another A/V app present that wasn't uninstallled PROPERLY...

Is this the case ?Drat, MS just removed the Fixit page and replaced it with something else. I'll do some searching and see if I can find a removal tool for what used to be Fixit.

Go here http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/345542-microsoft-security-essentials-uninstall-completely.html
The download link works. See if that Fix it tool would remove all of MS Security Essentials. That guide was WRITTEN in 2014 so I'm not sure if it fixes the current version.

Solve : Setup.exe has stopped working?

Answer»

Having got Family Tree Maker 2014 on my Windows 10 laptop I thought I would install it on my Windows 7 back up computer, which already had Family Tree Maker 2009 on it.
It would start to install then setup vanishes.

I thought that perhaps the older version was stopping it so uninstalled Family Tree Make 2009. This did not work and had the same result. So I tried to reinstall Family Tree Maker 2009 and it comes up with "Setup.exe has stopped working"

I tried in SAFE mode, same result.

Any helpful suggestions how to get Family Tree Maker 2014 to install please?Family Tree Maker 2014 is NOT freeware. Read the EULA that came with the product. To use it on two computers, you need two licenses, unless the EULA says otherwise. The retail price is given as $39.95 and that means the parent company considers it a commercial product, not a free thing.

If you want free, try this:
A NUMBER of items or free. But the software you have was not included.
Does that make sense? Thanks Geek,
I know Family Tree Maker 2009 COULD be used on more than one computer and thought 2014 version the same. Obviously I was wrong. (Not free though, I purchased it)How exactly did you remove the old version ? ?

That may be the issue RIGHT there...

Solve : Printers and WorkStations?

Answer»

I believe the IO-Gear 2 port USB 2.0 should work. But, if the PRINTER has an Ethernet CONNECTOR, you COULD go through the router for printer sharing and avoid the cost of the IO-Gear 2 port USB 2.0. And, if the printer has wireless capability and the modem-router has wireless capability, that allows ANOTHER way, i.e., wireless, to set up the printer for access from multiple computers.

Solve : Moving files/folders?

Answer»

Hi there,
I recently installed a 2TB Hybrid drive and copied my Windows OS to the new drive and all RAN smoothly. However did not serve the main purpose of using this faster drive for my LIGHTROOM and Photoshop editing.
My pictures folder is still in my old drive and reading from it.
What do I have to do to get it reading all my Lightroom catalogues and Photoshop PICS from my new drive.

Will it do it if I just copy the pictures pictures folder to the new HARDDRIVE?

Solve : Computer crashes to a solid color, screen flickers black, sometimes wont start?

Answer»

Hi everyone I'm hoping I can find a solution on this site because I don't want to buy a whole new computer. My problem is that my PC will crash to a random solid color such as beige or grey. This started 3 days ago when I was PLAYING csgo with my friends and it happened once. I thought it was just like a BSOD and I rebooted my PC and everything was good for 3 days. Then all of a sudden my PC would crash to these solid colours frequently and eventually to a point where I can't even start up a game because it will just crash instantly. During these crashes I'm SOMETIMES able to hear sound and other times I'm not. It crashes every 30 MINS to an hour when I'm not gaming. My dad and I built this PC 2 years ago and I have NEVER experienced any issues with it. All of a sudden with no warnings of symptoms my PC would crash. Sometimes my PC won't even start up and my screen will flicker black after I get to the login screen.

My specs
Amd EIGHT core fx 8320
Windows 7 service pack 1 64bit
Amd Radeon r9 280x visiontek/msi
Psu corsair cx750m
Gigabyte motherboard model 990fxa-ud3
Dual 4g memory corsair vengeance

What I have tried to do
-updated graphics drivers to latest version
-started a system repair
-used safe mode
-fan Intel test for cpu with no issues
-ran FUR mark Gpu test and my PC instantly crashes (tried 3 times)
-did an anti virus scan and no issues here

Help will be appreciated but u believe there is a problem with my Gpu due to the fact my system crashes during furmark

Notes: my PC crashed 3 times while writing this so I used my phone to write this all out

Thanks for future replies

Solve : Windows 7 Basic Mode no aero screen tear issue?

Answer»

I'm trying to screen record and I have to use basic mode so the record will be smoother. However there is screen tear, I tried enabling v-sync in amd settings no luck. What gives?

HELLO;

what do you mean 'screen tear', is there a way you could send a screenshot?Looking into it a bit it seems a lot of people have issues with NON Aero (Aero Basic) modes and screen tearing. VSYNC cannot be enabled because it's not a 3-D RENDERED scene but RATHER more like a frame buffer.

Aero shouldn't affect performance even while recording unless you have a older graphics card.

Many thanks here Allan. I have managed to lay hands on a program NAMED "File Assassin" which is supposed to do the trick on the file. HOWEVER, since our DISCUSSIONS here, I am less worried about it. It doesn't appear to be doing any harm so I think that I will leave it. How big i s it ? ?How big is what Patio???The folder...The file is 860KB my friend. Hy guys! Just to tell you that I have got SHOT of the file mentioned here. There is a program named "PrivaZer" that takes these files out like ..."Zap!" ..Also get to "www.snipca.com/220051" for a great program designed for the job ..BUT BE QUICK!

Solve : Windows Update Won't Update??

Answer»

I recently wiped my SSD and did a FRESH install of WINDOWS 7, and now im having troubles with windows update; specifically, if i TRY to go through the control panel etc., the WIZARD continually says 'searching for updates' and will never change. Ive tried downloading the System Readiness Tool through microsoft (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20858 )and that too will continually sit on 'searching for installed updates.' I also tried the WSUS offline installer (http://download.wsusoffline.net/, and that seemed to install SOME updates, but it still hasnt solved the original issue of windows failing to update.
This all came about as i tried installing Plex, and im getting a system error saying that api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is missing. I tried to update that, ran into the whole windows update issue.

Im running Windows 7 Home Premium, legit copy, not pirated, using SP1
Intel Core i5-3570K CPU
16gb RAM
64bit OS

not sure what other info i should be providing?

Solve : Windows 7 on transplanted hard drive from old laptop doesn't boot properly.?

Answer»

Last year, my friend was given an old laptop by our local school who was replacing it. We opened it up to salvage for parts (there wasn't MUCH useful in it) and he allowed me to keep the hard-drive to add some storage to the Linux machine I recently built (specs below). Before I wiped it, I wanted to see if there was actually anything on it, and I was pleasantly suppressed: the hard drive contained a copy of WINDOWS 7! There are some softwares that I could use that can only run on windows, so I decided not to wipe the hard drive. When I boot it up, though, it asks me to boot in recovery mode, runs through several dialogues, and invariably ends up at a "Windows cannot repair the computer automatically". Running windows normally simply reboots the computer, and (again) asks me if I want to run windows in recovery mode. (spoiler alert: again choosing to run windows normally again reboots the machine and so fourth...) The error message and my computer specs below:

Specs:
AMD Athlon X4 860K 3.7GHz Quad-Core Processor
Gigabyte GA-F2A78M-D3H Micro ATX FM2+ Motherboard
Asus GeForce GTX 650 2GB Video Card
EVGA 430W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply
Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory
2x Seagate Barracuda 1500GB Hard Drives (both removed temporarily).

Solve : Windows won't boot. Can't configure bios to boot from usb either.?

Answer»

I have a Z87-g45 gaming motherboard and I can't get it to boot to usb.

My computer completely crashed after I ran hitman and malewarbytes. I ran both scans and each told me a restart was needed so I waited for both to finish since they both required a restart. Prob was not good idea since now my computer won't boot at all. Once I was prompted of a failed startup I chose to restart from last known good configuration. It just got hung on the starting Windows screen for over 3 hours.

So I tried changing the bios to ufei instead of legacy+ufei and tried to see if that helped. It didn't. I've tried restoring bios to defaults to see if it helped it did not. Stuck on loading Windows screen. I took the battery out of the mother board and left it out for 5 mins and tried to start it. Same thing stuck on loading Windows. After trying to load to safe mode with network and WITHOUT network and trying to load to command prompt and it all still getting stuck I decided to go purchase a new computer to try to get some recovery software to try to fix the problem.

So my first choice of programs to try is Hiren. I downloaded Hiren and it was an iso file. So I formatted my usb thumbnail to Fat32 and used PowerISO to burn the Hiren ISO to the usb. (Using the create bootable usb option) after it was finished burning to the usb. I removed it from computer and put it into broken PC. Booted PC up and push F10 till I got to the bios. Changed boot priority to #1 uefi usb #2 usb. Saved changes and restarted. Went to stuck loading Windows screen. Power off, power on F10 changed bios from uefi+legacy to just uefi and booted usb first priority. Saved and rebooted. Went to stuck loading Windows screen. Figured I'd just try to see if command promp would work. Power off, power on F10 changed to default bios settings saved and restarted. Windows failed to load restart with command promp. Stuck on Windows loading screen but it finally worked and I was in command promp. Trying several commands to figure out what drive the usb was and looking on Google trying to find list of commands to use with command prompt. The computer automatically just restarted and I didn't even execute any command. Now unsure I can get to command prompt again. Tried rebooting again and again about 4 or 5 times and get stuck on Windows loading screen and no option of boot to command prompt.

I can get to efi shell easily but don't think that's gonna help me with what I NEED. I honestly don't know what I should run off of hirens even if I do get it to run. I'll use to research Google as I go. My biggest problem is trying to get the usb to load then if someone would like to walk me to diagnose the problem id be forever grateful!

Please help me. I've repaired computers that have crashed before but this is first time this computer with this motherboard has crashed and I just can't get it to do right and it's been killing many days just watching a stuck screen.

Please! TY in advance!

Ok Update:

Reset CMOS by pushing and holding black button on back of board for 5 seconds while powered off, Put jumper on JBAT1 and left on for about 3 minutes while powered off. Took jumper off plugged power cord in and started computer. Did not change a thing. System is still very very slow. Sits at black screen with either A2 or A3 bottom right hand corner for about 15 minutes then slowly boots into bios then goes to the starting windows screen where it gets stuck.

I finally was able to get it to boot to USB. Apparently PowerISO is not best at making such bootable usb or I just did it wrong. But I used a different program suggested by someone else and was able to do it again and it worked! So was able to boot the Hiren CD. Again booting thru the bios and loading Hiren CD takes almost an hour to complete. After getting into Hiren I ran the MbrFix to try to fix the MBR. Afterwards I was going to use Malwarebytes but it didnt find any of my hard drives. So rebooted into bios changed to IDE sata. Rebooted to usb. Got into Hiren's ran the Malwarebytes. Ran the scan thru the night since it was taking so long, took 5 hours to complete. Found 13, (remove SELECTED).

Restarted and went into bios, changed all to default, saved and reboot without usb. Now same issue as before. Nothing has changed.Sounds like a failing HDD...Hope you have backups...

Solve : How does one disable the 30 second wait time for Remote Desktop connections??

Answer»

When one RDP's to a remote Windows system, the following "Logon Message" is displayed: "Another user is currently logged on to this computer. If you continue, this user has to disconnect from this computer. Do you want to continue?" If you click "Yes" this message is displayed: "Please wait for domain\user to respond." On the remote system, this message is displayed: "domain\user wants to connect to this machine. Click OK to disconnect immediately or click cancel to stay connected. Otherwise, you will be disconnected in 30 seconds."
I don't want to give the user the option to deny my connection nor do I want to wait 30 seconds for the connection to be established. I want the connection to be established immediately without the user's consent.
Why do you want to do this?I was wondering the very same thing myself...Why do I want to do this? I don't but my customer does. As you KNOW, "The customer is always right" even when they're wrong.I would explain to the customer that because of security considerations i would not do that at all...

And something tells me this is not a customer request at all.using Local Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc) there is a setting under :

Administrative TEMPLATES \ Windows components \ Remote desktop services \ Remote desktop session host \ Connections

saying "Set rules of remote control of remote desktop services" witch lets you specify the interaction mode and the control LEVEL for an RDP session

enable it and choose the "Full control without user permission" option. so the logged user won't be prompt for confirmation (there is more DETAILS there)

you can ALSO set the Session time limit for active but idle RDP service under session time limit folder to "Never" and it won't disconnect you IDLE.Defining the local group policy was one of the first things I tried as that was the solution I found when I first started researching this issue. Unfortunately that solution doesn't give me my desired results. It no longer matters. I found that the 30 second wait time for an RDP connection to be established is only encountered if the remote system has an open/active session. If the remote system’s user session is locked, the notification message is not sent and the remote system’s user session is immediately terminated and the remote session is established. That is also the case if there isn't and active user session on the remote system.
This was a customer issue and I have notified the customer that the 30 second wait time can't be disabled. Since the customer's employees will only be making remote connections after hours when no one should be using the remote system, this is no longer and issue.
Thanks to everyone for their responses.

Solve : Latest WinDefender KB915597 is >42 MB??

Answer»

Greetings! LONG time no chat. I'm running Win7Pro on an Acer Veritron with an Intel i3. I was ONE of the last=minute Win 10 downloaders and got the notice it failed. No prob there, I'm happy w/my 7Pro, which has been running normally since the failed download. However, the most recent Win Defender update is showing 42.3 MB SIZE, and when I CLICK on it to start download, the message switches to "Downloading Windows 10--installng files" (not 10Pro, which is what I should be getting). SOMETHING seems fishy. Is this a real WinDefender update or is MS trying to pull a fast one on me?

Thanks in advance.

Solve : Windows 7 slow to shutdown and startup?

Answer»

My computer has regressed over time in performance. Maybe it's because I have installed a lot of programs I'm not sure but the os is slow to shut down. I get message Waiting for BACKGROUND programs to close and it was explorer.exe. As matter fact explorer.exe is really causing issues in os. Crashing frequently, hogging resources, its frustrating! What is wrong with the os? I know Windows 7 is not perfect os but is this normal?
Here is a short answer to your question. Windows 7 is quite reliable and very effective and most users do not have the kind of problems you are experiencing.
Rather than suspect your operating system, why not consider a possible hardware problem. Memory errors are not always flagged by Windows. Also, some types of hardware errors are not easy to diagnose. One of the tools you should have in your resource Kit is some kind of bootable USB or CD that will test the memory. There is a version of Mame test 86 that will do that.
The other problem that most often slowed the computer down is some difficulty with the disk drive. Again, way to CHECK this quiz with some kind of diagnostic tool that focuses on the integrity of the disk drive. If you have a Seagate drive you can go to the Seagate WEBSITE and find a tool for testing Seagate drives. Same goes for Western Digital, they also have a testing tool for their hard drives.
You did not specify what kind of computer you have so it's difficult to guess what sort of problems are frequent with that brand or make of computer unless we know what the make and model is.
Regressed is not right word sorry. Actually windows 7 performs reasonably WELL it's just when it starts up or shutdowns it takes more time now then ever before. I guess it's normal when I first installed the os it started up and shutdown in no time. This just happened. Perhaps this is a hardware problem

Good News everyone. I found out the culprit that was slowing down the os. It was this strange file called sqlwriter.exe. It was located in roaming app data folder and I deleted it. Since I deleted the file the os is noticeably faster. It did not appear to be a virus, it was some file from Microsoft that somehow got on my computer perhaps through windows update I guess. Glad I SOLVED issue

Solve : Downgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 7.?

If I buy a laptop that comes with Windows 10 pre-installed, would there be any problems with formatting it and installing Windows 7? I dislike Windows 10 and ESPECIALLY 8...MIGHT have to chase down some drivers, but other than that it should workQuote from: DaveLembke on August 31, 2016, 01:19:34 AM

Might have to chase down some drivers, but other than that it should work
Awesome. What type of drivers are we talking about though?Worth noting that Only Windows 10 pro includes downgrade rights. If the system in question has WIndows 10 Home, then performing a downgrade will REQUIRE you to have a licensed version of Windows 7.

Awesome. What type of drivers are we talking about though?

Hardware drivers. Motherboard chipset, Sound, Graphics, etc. You'd want to look on the support PAGE for the laptop in question and see if the manufacturer provides drivers for Windows 7.
