Solve : BSOD After installing Windows 7 64 bit? |
|
Answer» RECENTLY updated my P5QC w/a Core 2 Quad 9505 Processor. 8 GB of RAM *Patriot* G2 series PC3-10666 DDR3 2x4GB and GTX550 ti Graphics Card. After upgrading the hardware and 'before' I BEGAN installing the new O/S to recognize the increased RAM I had np at all. As soon as I upgraded to the 64bit version, BAM! BSOD anytime I try to run any TYPE of games and random freezing. Thought of course it was driver issues, made sure to update all drivers, all Windows7 updates incl SP1. Made absolutely no difference. Anytime I try to run Rift or WOW it'll work great for a few min, then BAM freeze then BSOD. Also intermittent freezing on various apps etc. Thinking perhaps the HD Audio Drivers that Nvidia automatically installed might be conflicting w/the Onboard Realtek HD Audio? But no way of telling for sure if that's what's causing the BSOD. Solve : Windows 7 is now not genuine..? |
|
Answer» Hello there all, Basically, I installed Ubuntu by creating a new partition. All did not go well and my laptop shut down halfway through installation. You seem to have contradicted yourself. First, you imply that the Ubuntu installation was not successful, then you say you don't want to lose your new Ubuntu. I'm confused. Well im an IT student studying Digital Forensics so I wanted to try and fix it myself rather then taking the easy optionAnd, what is the "easy option"?Soy, if your insinuating that im making up an excuse to cover up that im using an 'illegal version' of Windows then thats your shout, but im not. Anyway, Patio. I used the Microsoft Live Chat feature today and gave them my serial code off the MSDN website (it was exact as I copy and pasted it) and he said that that wasnt the right key for Windows 7 Home Premium. Which it is as Ive used it for the past 6 months. Think im just gonna bite the bullet and do a fresh install of the whole system. ChrisQuote from: chriscool9 on March 31, 2011, 12:55:54 PM Soy, if your insinuating that im making up an excuse to cover up that im using an 'illegal version' of Windows then thats your shout, but im not.Nope, I was not insinuating that. I was just asking for CLARIFICATION. By "easy option", did you mean repair the MBR, edit the Linux GRUB bootloader, reinstall Linux to see whether that would resolve this, do a fresh install of the whole system as you mentioned, or what? |

Solve : New $4,000 Computer Crashing and Freezing? |
|
Answer» Quote from: Salmon Trout on March 12, 2011, 07:27:01 AM At the risk of making myself appear stupid, I have to confess that there is something here I am not getting. A person has a computer under warranty, and has to pay $150 (one hundred and FIFTY dollars!) to call their warranty support? And then another one hundred and thirty-nine dollars because the first call didn't lead to the problem being solved? Is that right? If so, I'm glad I live in a country with consumer protection laws! Actually, I was scratching my head about that when I first read it. If I ever dropped 4 grand on a machine that refused to work properly in the way that the OPs is I wouldn't be trying to fix it. As far as I'm concerned, at that point it's the Manufacturer's job to make sure that I'm satisfied. If they want an additional 150 dollars for me to have the "privilege" of that they can take the computer back and give me a refund and I'll find somebody more willing to take on the responsibility of making the customer satisfied that selling a product generally entails. This includes, you know, having warranties that aren't just words. Quote from: Salmon Trout on March 12, 2011, 07:27:01 AM At the risk of making myself appear stupid, I have to confess that there is something here I am not getting. Er no I only had to pay $139 and that was for a service outside my warranty where they walk me through how to back up and restore my computer so that all the programs and files are where they are supposed to be. It saves time but I agree its overpriced. What I am really ticked about is they never called me back yesterday. I will have to deal with them some other time and I am certainly not paying for them to replace my video card, I already paid for a working video card.Quote from: Seekster on March 12, 2011, 11:38:27 AM Er no I only had to pay $139 So what is this that I read? Quote Had to pay about $150.00 to have them walk me through partioning my hardrive and making a backup and then doing a system restore to factory Quote I spent another $139.64 just to have a guy walk me through how to partition my harddrive and restore my computer On my planet that makes $289.64, which, moreover, I would not have spent! How nice it must be to have piles of spending cash. Quote from: Seekster on March 12, 2011, 11:38:27 AM I already paid for a working video card. Didn't you pay for a working computer, though, too?Quote from: Salmon Trout on March 12, 2011, 11:55:22 AM So what is this that I read? I was refering to the same single payment. The first time I just gave a rounded figure and the second time I just gave the whole figure. I did pay for a working computer but this was a service where they walked me through a partition back up and instant restore. That part worked well and now I have a partion for backups in the future so I can't argue with them on that.Quote from: Seekster on March 12, 2011, 02:41:40 PM I have a partion for backups in the future so I can't argue with them on that. So what are you complaining about? Quote from: Salmon Trout on March 12, 2011, 02:46:55 PM So what are you complaining about? The fact that after all that the thing still freezes up randomly.Seekster, what did the DELL tech support do for you (if anything)? you mentioned that you were gonna talk with them regarding your pc's problems, specifically video card replacement...Quote from: Seekster on March 12, 2011, 08:19:50 PM The fact that after all that the thing still freezes up randomly. here's the thing. You paid 4 grand. they should have delivered the machine in working order. Wether they managed to scam you into believing that repartitioning the drives would somehow dissolve your issues is redundant. Quote they walked me through a partition back up and instant restore. That part worked well and now I have a partion for backups in the future so I can't argue with them on that. There seems to be a bit of confusion here I think. If I bought a toaster that didn't work, I wouldn't be satisfied if their response to my inquiries was "well, here, let me walk you through setting up the different toast settings". because that is clearly wholly irrelevant to the issue (that the bloody thing doesn't work). Additionally, why did they make you go through all that? Did you ask them to take you through repartitioning your drive? Or did they somehow trick you into thinking it would fix the problem when it should be clear, at least to them, that it would not? Basically what I'm seeing is somebody essentially being forced to forego their warranty by being sidebarred with irrelevant instructions by incompetent tech support that additionally has the GALL to charge for the irrelevant sidebars. The fact that even after giving them four grand you still have to resort to coming here to fix what appear to be rather major defects in the hardware as it came configured from the factory should be reason enough to give pause.Actually i'm leaning towards ths whole scenario not being what we've been led to believe... But's thats just me...Quote from: patio on March 13, 2011, 06:55:24 PM Actually i'm leaning towards ths whole scenario not being what we've been led to believe... I would have to agree. If they are are as concerned with their $4k machine as they sound why did they live with the problem for "months" before contacting Dell? Since this mainly happens to be with games are these legit COPIES of the games, are they cracked, are they modded? If I spent that much on a computer and it had this problem right out of the box I wouldn't wait so long to get in touch with the vendor. The problem was subtle at first and yes these are all legit copies. Really the whole problem is at worst a notable annoyance. Plus I spent the last few years in an abusive relationship with a bootcamped MacBook Pro that took an average of 30 minutes to start up Windows XP for some strange reason so I guess I am just used to stuff not working. In any case Dell did not call me back like they said they would and I have really had it with their tech support. The good news is that I am now almost certain the video card is the main problem. The other day I encountered a variation of the sound freeze but this time the screen changed to several lines of small horizontal rectangles of different colors. I have never seen it do that before and it has never done it since but if that doesnt indicate some issue with the video card I don't know what does. I intend to call up Dell as soon as I have a free day to waste on hold with them (so probably this weekend) and ask them politely to replace my video card. I will NOT pay for the video card. The main reason I am not raising a fuss about paying for the partion and restore was because I was dumb enough to pay them for it anyway (at least I didn't spend $250 for a year long plan like they wanted me to). Moral of the tale, as of so many others like it --- Wondering if it would be better to contact the manufacturer of your graphics card if it's still got warranty attached to it, instead of going thru Dell. That is if you're certain that your graphics card is not working right and needs to be switched out.It could be a video card incompatibility problem too or perhaps you don't have an ideal video card for the games you're running. Also, have you updated Windows 7? When I bought my gaming system I had problems DOWNLOADING the Window 7 updates until I found out the update service was missing from my machine. Make sure your system is updating properly and get service pack 1 installed too. |

Solve : Computer Freezes Randomly For No Reason? |
|
Answer» Hey guys, All of my drivers are up to date, I have AVG and run it consistently, I run ccleaner and clear the registry twice a week.Probably the causes of your problems right here. First of all, NEVER use any registry CLEANERS. They cause problems, they do not cure them. There is no such thing as a good registry cleaner. Second, drivers should only be updated if there is a specific need to do so. And then, all drivers should be obtained from the OEM websites, not from Windows Update. At this point I suggest the following: 1) Right-click on a command prompt icon and open as administrator. In the command prompt window type:chkdsk /r (then press ENTER). You'll be told the disk is in use and asked if you want to run checkdisk on the next boot. Say yes, exit the command prompt window, and reboot. 2) To check the ram, download memtest (http://www.memtest.org/). Burn it to a cd using a dedicated .iso burning utility (http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm), make SURE the cd drive is at the top of the boot order in bios, then boot to the newly created cd and run the utility. 3) Boot to your Windows disc and run startup repair options Let's see where we are after that. |

Solve : CODE ERROR 5 WIN7? |
|
Answer» hello I am not sure what you did.... Not REALLY: I restarted my pc cause it froze, and i got a msg that: partition boot error...so i thot it was the HDD/MBR *i ran a checkdisk(s) it didnt work and, so thats when i tried to run win7 Disc to perform some diagonistics and repair...it gave me that CODE 5 Error when the cd booted. * So I wrote a new Win7 image into a clean DVD..and it booted in a pc that i was copying it from (pc1). But then when i used it in my PC (pc2) it gave me the same error as before. * i decided to backup and format. I then formatted in pc1 to test what will happen, it formatted just fine i let it load and finish, and win7 was running perfectly fine. But then i took my HDD to plug it in pc2, nothing happend it needed a repair again. (i think it was different specs and configuration on pc2) Ja i just kinda gave up from there. hope this was helpful. What file are you creating these Win7 images from ? ?hi its .ISO file, its an image thts on our server, it is SAVED there. (ready to be written.lol) and i tried to change it, i just cant get RIGHT the text and option. i used nero7 to write it.From Microsoft ? ?no our local server, at work. (sorry)He's asking if you have obtained that .ISO file from Microsoft. No we didnt, it was created internally. As i thought... There's the source of your issues...My guess would be that your missing the boot-strapper that is on the original disk.I agree...try to get a real copy of windows 7 and load the machine from scratch. Also you can't make an image of PC1 and then move the hard drive to another machine. Windows will error out and not run. From this webpage, you can download official win 7 setup FILES from digitalriver. This assumes you have the legal keys for windows 7 already, and the links seem to be working as ot now.Quote from: Spoiler on March 25, 2011, 11:59:16 AM I agree...try to get a real copy of windows 7 and load the machine from scratch. |

Answer» My computer, in the last 3 weeks, has become increasingly moody. When I try to watch a video (on a secure, safe, legal site, such as watching a tv show on CWTV.com), or try to use my computer game, The Sims 3, my computer will start to run it and then show the "Blue Screen of Death" (where at the bottom it says its dumping physical memory to disc) before crashing and restarting. I have tried restoring my computer to a time before I was having these problems, but errors have occurred and the restore is never successful. I have disc DEFRAGMENTED my computer, and even turned of my Norton Anti-virus to see if perhaps it was MESSING with my system. I just can't seem to get my computer to run a video, tv show, or my computer games!!! I have also run a scan to see if Norton could FIND anything wrong with my computer! No luck! |

I have normally just installed games and things where windows 7 has decided to install them. My games are installed to C: program files x86, but is this guy right? Should I have them installed somewhere else and where exactly is the OS partition he talks about? Thankyou!!Quote I have normally just installed games and things where windows 7 has decided to install them.Installing in the default directory like you are is correct. The only thing I would not put on the OS partition are files (music, documents, downloads...) or if I do keep them backed up in case they system hic-ups. Quote Should I have them installed somewhere else and where exactly is the OS partition he talks about?I would not you can install them sometimes they SOFTWARE may not work properly. The OS partition is you C drive where windows is installed. It is up to you really, the only reason that I don't like installing games on the same drive as the OS, is the fact, if you get a virus, or have to re-format, and reinstall windows, you will still have all your games. if you are like me, and have a TON of games, re-installing all of them takes a long time. so if you have it on another hard drive, you will lose your Save games and things, but you will not have to re-install all your games. Also, I have Steam www.steampowered.com so the thought of downloading over 45gb of game data SEEMS insane Quote The only thing I would not put on the OS partition are files (music, documents, downloads...) or if I do keep them backed up in case they system hic-ups.{@ Rustys} I have never run into an issue with this. I have even run some of my games straight from a USB drive. For a lot of my LAN parties I have put the games on flash drives and have my friends run them right from them.Quote {@ Rustys} I have never run into an issue with this. Should you wipe windows you loose the referances (where the information is stored.) If you have not noticed we both stated some not all.He has just given me a bit more info on why he wouldn't install games on the OS drive of windows 7 64bit. He reckons that this section of the harddrive is always checking for viruses and malware and that this can give you a performance hit on games by slowing them down and things. He talks like he knows a bit, but is he right? I don't want to argue about something I know nothing about. @osmo - I have always used a hardrive backup program called Acronis, I would never be without ONE of these backup programs now. This program has save me the hassel of reinstalling everything many a time because it takes the computer back to a time before the problems began. Say I get a virus on my computer, or my windows becomes corrupt, or even if my harddrive dies, all I do is click on my backup file and sit back while my computer installs everything back the way it was.Put the games anywhere you like and stop listening to your friend. He has no idea what he's talking about.Quote from: Allan on March 28, 2011, 05:47:28 AM Put the games anywhere you like and stop listening to your friend. He has no idea what he's talking about. Heh... my organization is so unorganized, half the time I have no idea where a given game/program is installed. Originally, the idea was to put games in D:\games, so I have 88 folders there with different games/source ports/etc. but at the same time I have most "newer" games in the appropriate C:\Program Files folder, since they have both 64 bit and 32-bit editions and I have no idea how they would work if installed elsewhere. This in addition to the fact that Most of my C: was empty at the time. As for reinstallation, though, I back up absolutely nothing but a few of my programming project folders. I've lost years worth of work that I have yet to "recover" and let me tell you, the inconvenience of having to reinstall a few programs pales in comparison to the prospect of rewriting an entire application. Also, I have a sort of "redundancy" for older files, since they are also present on the drives from my older computers, in the exact same setup (since I just cloned their contents to whatever my new drive was). Quote He reckons that this section of the harddrive is always checking for viruses and malware and that this can give you a performance hit on games by slowing them down and things. He talks like he knows a bit, but is he right? I don't want to argue about something I know nothing about.See, here is the difference between you and you're friend; you state outright that you know nothing about the subject; whereas they don't either but pretend they do. He is just making stuff up. |

Solve : Lag Issues.? |
|
Answer» SPECS: ASUS Desktop PC with Windows 7 Home Premium Pentium Dual-Core CPU E5400 @ 2.70GHz 6.00GB of RAM 64-bit Operating System I've been having lag issues with my computer and I'm assuming it's a Windows 7 problem. Every 5 to 10 seconds my computer lags for about half a second. There's buzzing in my speaers when it happens. That whole screen freezes then goes back to normal. It's extrememly annoying espaically while gameing and playing music. At first I thought it was my speakers but I got new ones and they still did it. I think it might be something to do with PROGRAMS because when I have all programs closed and I'm on my desktop screen it either completly stops or it does it every 30ish seconds. Is there any way to fix this? Is this a Windows 7 problem? I have like 5GB of memory left so it's not anything to do with too much stuff on my computer. I've scanned for viruses mutiple times. I've used the Disk Clea-up and Disk Defragmentor. What is new or different since the last time EVERYTHING worked properly (ie, new hw, new sw, virus, error, etc)? The speakers are new. I tried changing the graphic card once but it didn't work out so I put back the old graphics card but by then it was lagging. I don't think anything else is new since the lag started. And the only difference is the lag really. The computer's only about a year old so not too much as been needed to fix or anything. Haven't had any viruses that I remember or errors. I've DOWNLOADED very few programs (Itunes and a few games). It's just really weird.Download Process Explorer: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx Unzip ProcessExplorer.zip, and double CLICK on procexp.exe to run the program. Click on View > Select Colunms. In addition to already pre-selected options, make sure, the Command Line is selected, and press OK. Go File>Save As, and save the report as Procexp.txt. Attach the file to your next reply. Are there any errors in Event Viewer? Click on the START button, type in event viewer, and click on Event Viewer. Under "Windows Logs", check both SYSTEM and APPLICATION. P. |

Solve : Turning off user account control? Vista Business x64? |
|
Answer» I'm renaming and moving ~200Gb of photo files on an external hard drive. This is time consuming enough without having to click "Continue" in 2 different access confirmation boxes (1= destination folder access denied) - (2=User Account Control). Seems like I remember a procedure a bit more complicated then this to fully disable UAC in Vista that was posted on here a few years ago, (although not reccomended). I was wrong. I was thinking about a post in 2009. I searched and found it but it was about Vista hidden administrator account, and for a different purpose. But we'll leave that subject alone here. Oh, can I disable the notification at the system tray about UAC turned off when Windows starts?http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/163857-security-center-specific-alert-notification.htmlExcellent. UAC alert is gone. Thanks for the link Allan! SureQuote from: patio on March 26, 2011, 03:36:19 PM I don't need MS to protect me from my machine... This expresses a common misunderstanding of the underlying purpose of UAC, su/do, and equivalents. They aren't there to protect you from your machine, for one thing, any more then requiring security badges in a confidental military base is to protect the employees from the military base; It's there to protect the employees as well as the base from breeches in security. A person from the opposing side being able to waltz in without presenting ID can cause havoc, just like a software program that is able to run as a superuser merely because you've decided you don't want to be bothered with burdens of command. Can you be a careful user running with such settings? of course you can. Can you remain perfectly safe as a result of said behaviour? of course you can. But you can remain safe while building a wooden bridge across a volcanic crater if you follow the proper precautions, but considering you could simply present your security token to the bouncer and take the path around it's not exactly a logical choice. Unless of course you are in it for the danger. I'm fully confident in my abilities to build a wooden bridge over a lava flow...yes. And the beauty of that approach is if the bridge burns down i won't be on here cryin about my luck or blaming the OS author...When I stated "misunderstanding" before, it was mostly in regards to the comment about being "protected from you're machine"; as I noted, you aren't being protected from you're machine, you're being protected from security flaws in the programs you run. It's not just about the prompts as people like to pretend. The request to elevate that UAC provides is in and of itself only of minor benefit; the major gain is that applications that do not require elevation, aren't running with the highest possible privileges; this is what they do when UAC is disabled, and on the default configurations of XP and earlier. The advantage is that you are running Word, MSN, Internet Explorer, Firefox, IRC clients, Outlook, Adobe Reader, Foxit, etc as a standard user by default; they don't get any special abilities. Now, the point is that exploits exist for all of these programs. Even Word. if you have UAC disabled and visit a page that exploits a hole in IE or firefox or Opera or whichever and it is able to place a piece of binary code on your machine and execute it to try to install a rootkit, it's going to need admin privileges to run. Without UAC, it already has admin privileges- you get no prompt. But you do get a rootkit. With UAC; you can click cancel. Now, naturally, many people will click OK, but the more savvy users will stop and think, OK, *censored*, why do I need admin permissions for IE just to view whatever.com? Thought experiment: having UAC disabled. Let's say you need to download a text file. Your favourite editor is of course associated with it. What you- or anybody really- doesn't know is that there is a flaw in that text editor that allows the syntax highlighting engine to be manipulated to allow custom pieces of text to be executed as native macro commands for the editor; let's say (for the sake of argument, and because it is hardly a corner case) this editor has a very rich scripting language that allows you to do *censored* near anything. Your BOSS, or whomever sent you this text file; you know the text file is "safe" because I mean, it's a text file right? Text Files aren't dangerous! So you download it. Of course, unbeknowest to you, the sender was infected with a rootkit that was configured to paste the exploit text at the end of the file whenever it was edited; and of course because they used the same text editor as you the malware changed it so the macros hide the presence of the text. So now when you go to open it, the exploit code is able to take over the editor, and works from WITHIN the editor process doing whatever it pleases. It basically perfectly fits the definition of a biological virus in that it reprograms a otherwise benign entity to do it's evil bidding. And since that process is running with full Admin/root permissions (because you trust this editor, and believe that all dangers are perfectly avoidable with safe browsing habits, etc) that exploit code has now owned you. it downloads DATA from the web to install rootkits and other nasties, and now all the text files you edit will have this exploit code. And it the crap just rolls downhill from there. With UAC enabled, all attempted automatic attacks that try to exploit flaws in a program's parsing routines would all fail and you would stand a far higher chance of not getting owned. As far as windows is concerned, it's one of the least invasive implementations This sounds like a good thing. It's not. On Linux machines you have to SU or get prompted (in a similar fashion to UAC, via a graphical dialog) to run admin apps, utilities, etc. just like on Vista/7; the difference is that everytime, you have to enter your password. Other solutions such as a "suid bit" (trust) or the lock model that some systems implement are rather dangerous and exploitable programmatically. People often say "ha... it's useless, people just learn to click OK all the time"; that's a non-argument. As I noted above, it has tremendous benefits. People should take the time to educate themselves- and their users; as to what UAC really is, and exactly what it is doing. None of this "well, I'll only judge it based on what I can see" nonsense. Lastly, you can do everything right (not downloading suspicious apps, running a good AV, firewall, etc) but still get infected/owned through no fault of your own. it's not so much like building a wooden lava bridge over a volcanic crater as much as it is building a wooden lava bridge over a volcanic crater while a whole bunch of people are swinging it from side to side to try to get you to fall. Falling is not your fault; choosing to use the bridge rather then the path is; just because it's a tad faster doesn't mean it's the smartest option. Running applications with Super-User/admin permissions is equally dangerous on every platform. Also, some may say "well that text file thing is made up" It's not; When I was running XP I was whalloped by virut simply by opening a text file (truly the editor program's fault) of course, the text file wasn't from a trusted source; and naturally it opens fine in notepad and you just see some goofy characters at the end; but open it in the text editor I was USING at the time (which I won't mention, the bug has since been fixed so it's nothing but finger-pointing, as they are hardly the only one with the issue) happened to misinterpret the BOM; additionally, the extension that was chosen meant that a specific syntax highlighter was selected for use which happened to contain a parsing flaw that caused a buffer overflow, allowing crafted pieces of the text file to be inserted into the stack of the text editor; for example, the stack frame pointer was corrupted to point to the start of what in notepad just looks like nothing but is in fact a "NOP sled" leading up to the malicious code (which just looks like garble). So the text file was able to execute MACHINE CODE because of a flaw in a text editor. This is not a backwater, unpopular text editor either; it's quite popular. Like I say, this isn't limited to text files, or text editor with syntax highlighters, or anything of that sort. Basically, the very act of dealing with files at all, for any purpose presents a risk. Especially when you CONSIDER that parsing a text document is relatively simple. new, similar flaws are found in web browsers all the time that cause similar conditions that allow them to change the in-memory execution context to do their evil bidding. If that application has full control, that evil code has full control. It doesn't matter how few bugs or how many fixes said application has had- it only takes one to lose your machine- and through no fault of your own, save not using UAC, which would cause the attempt to infect to fail silently, or possibly, in a second-to-worst case scenario, show a prompt (the worst case scenario is that it somehow bypasses UAC entirely, which is far less common). The reason I state this is because I quite understand the sentiment; before I used Vista it was mine as well, and the first thing I did was disable UAC. But (as I was dealing with some files that were still infected from the XP machine) I got re-infected with the same thing, I reformatted, and decided "alright, I'll leave UAC on, just until I know I don't have any evil files here" And I haven't disabled it since. The example cited may seem to be a huge corner case that requires several coincidences and several correspondences to be present, but it is exactly that which the baddies take advantage of. |

Well whether this PC meets the requirements or not, at the moment it's running Vista just fine. I was finally able to find/download and install the SigmaTel driver that I required. Sound problem gone. Actually that was the last REAL problem that I was having with the installation. Still don't know what that FCDABIOS (2003) device EnumeratorOO (still with yellow flag) is though? In any case, as long as that notification doesn't keep popping up I'm not going to worry about it. So, if Vista keeps running as it is presently, that'll be great. Thanks once more Allan. Much appreciated. overthehill some info at http://driver-backup.com/driver_detail/?driver_id=56704 on FCDABIOS (2003) device Enumerator but I'm still not sure what device it relates to. If you click on System devices on that web page, the next page shows a long list. If you eventually notice something that doesn't SEEM to work right, that may be your clue to this mystery. You might try letting Device Manager search the internet for a driver for that item. I'd bet chances are slim it will find a driver to resolve it but still worth a try. Quote from: soybean on March 26, 2011, 07:54:55 AM some info at http://driver-backup.com/driver_detail/?driver_id=56704 on FCDABIOS (2003) device Enumerator but I'm still not sure what device it relates to. Thanks soybean for your interest. And yes, Device Manager kept offering to search the web to find the correct driver but could find nothing. I followed your link and download the driver for FCDABIOS (2003) device EnumeratorOO, which btw was on the first page. But, it wasn't very fruitful, couldn't find driver or ? in that download. Didn't SEE anything either that I could relate to in that long list. Anyway, what I did then was go to the FCDABIOS (2003) device EnumeratorOO file in System Devices on my PC(the file that looked OK) and found that the manufacturer is Farstone. I went to the Farstone SITE and downloaded the driver (rather huge), from there. Their instructions are to "Add Driver" to Pre-Windows Recovery Manager ,which doesn't appear to be anywhere on my system. If I understand this properly, Farstone is used for Virtual Drive / Back Ups, which I never use anyway. Assuming that I'm correct, if it gives me anymore concerns I can always delete Virtual Drive from Add/Remove programs. btw, haven't been bothered with that pop up since early yesterday. Maybe it's gone Thanks again. overthehill |

Solve : live mail? |

Answer» I have just put livemail in my W7 and it sends and receives ok but, all the time I get the code ... livemai l... and it sends and receives ok but, all the time I get the codeWell, the settings my look fine but I suspect there's SOMETHING not quite right in the settings. How did you create the account in WLM (Windows Live Mail)? Did you manually enter the account settings or did you use the automated account setup feature in WLM? If you did it manually, I suggest exporting the account to a .iaf file, deleting it, and then try creating the account again by letting WLM search for the account settings. When using this method, you simply enter your email address and your password; WLM then searches the internet to find the proper settings and sets up the account. This will not always work but, if it does, it's the easiest way to set up an account. If if does not work, you can delete that account and import the account you exported back into WLM. Did you get the account setup details you now have in your email account from your ISP's website? I got the settings from Orange's web site. I've CHECKED them a dozen times and they are ok.The strange thing is the email works fine. It's just the message COMES up anyway. I'll try all suggestions. Thanks Just to let you know I've fixed it. Answer» I know it's a dumb question, but I can't get windows to always open at "maximum". I've use XP OS on my laptop and Vista on my tower. I've tried unlocking and re locking the toolbar, searching help, and exploring advanced folder setting. I click 'maximum' in the UPPER right hand corner, and of course it stay maximum until I close that window, then right back to wherever it was the first time next time I open it... I've also tried stretching the screens out to 'max' with the cursor -- same thing. if you have multiple windows you ought to switch to a tabbed browser. This is the best solution to opening another link. In my part, I was never annoyed of clicking the restore or maximize page option since it just require little effort or a one-click to make a browser display in full-page. Who knows in the future we will have this a fully featured option for all users.Target, after you have stretched your second IE window close IE and make sure that the stretched window is the last one you close. Then restart IE.In a browser, the F11 key is my favourite... |

Solve : Installing Windows 7 on virtual partition? |
|
Answer» Hello everyone, I'm just wondering how SAFE and possible it is for me to set up a virtual partition on my computer, and then install windows 7 on it? I have the 32 bit beta from the microsoft website. "First of all I downloaded the public beta ISO 2.5 GB file and burned it to a DVD-R and then I created a virtual machine in VMWare and booted it off the install DVD. The install halted and said it could not read install.wim. I did a bit of Googling and found that this most likely a bad burn." Apparently Microsoft says you should burn the install disk at the slowest speed your DVD burner supports. I had used 8x but my burner goes down to 2x for that brand so that was my fault. The funny thing is, I can burn audio CDs at 42x and DVDs (don't ask) at 16x and they play just fine. I have got a brand new 80 wire cable so maybe I'll swap it anyway. I'm in the middle of solving similar problem. I downloeded Win 7 two days ago from "Wired" link, burned it to DVD, and I attempted install today, using VMWare. The installation kept freezing at "Starting Windows", and actually it was even freezing my computer. At first, I thought, maybe formatting virtual partition in SCSI was at fault ( I had this problem with installing 7 pre-beta), so I created new partition, using IDE. Same problem. I thought, bad download, so I started new download, before I saw this thread. I'll try 3 things, when download is done: 1. Burn at normal speed 2. Burn at slower speed 3. Install from .iso on hard drive P. S. With Win 7 pre-beta, switching from SCSI to IDE, solved the problem. Pre-beta DVD was burned at normal speed, and I installed pre-beta from DVD, not from .iso on hard drive.Quote from: BRONI on January 11, 2009, 01:53:35 PM At first, I thought, maybe formatting virtual partition in SCSI was at fault ( I had this problem with installing 7 pre-beta), so I created new partition, using IDE. Install from .iso on hard drive THis is what I did.Quote I used SCSI (it was recommended in the VMWare virtual machine setup)I know it is, but pre-beta installation was hanging no matter what until I switched from SCSI to IDE. I didn't try to install from .iso back then. Stupid me. I tried to be a smart a**, and I set RAM for Win 7 installation in VMWare to 2048MB, not seeing VMWare note about not setting RAM to higher, than 1700MB. I changed it to 1024MB, and it installed right away from the very same DVD.Quote How easy and how safe is it to do this? If it is very dangerous I won't try it, but I've gone to all the effort of downloading the beta now...No problem at all. You are a experienced user. There is no case ever in the history of beta testing that a beta program will travel through the air and find the backup HDD you keep in a locked vault. Experienced users, like you of course, always have a backup HDD made the day before. So yes, you are safe. With a virtual partition or a virtual PC, i still need to be running XP, don't I? Is there a way of *just* having Windows 7 running? |
