Solve : Mp3 player and windows media player? |
Answer» I have a sansa clip mp3 which keeps all my music on it. I don't want to put the music onto my computer hard drive because I don't want to USE up the space. So when I listen to music whilst I'm on my laptop I plug in the mp3 player via usb and play the songs through windows media player. . I want the songs to be playable in the main middle pane. There is a folder location for saving or copy/pasting music files to achieve this task. Usually it is in the Users folder/Public/Sample Music. No removable device of music files contents is automatically ADDED to the library or playlist. They should be residing in the Hard drive specified location on WMP. Even if you use Winamp and create a playlist, the location should not be removed as Windows looks for the path of the saved items when using the saved contents. |

Solve : Missing 75gb on Windows 7 with RAID0? |
Answer» So I've never posted on here before, but my dad has spoke highly of these forums so I thought I'd toss an interesting problem at you. First of all my computer info as detailed as I can get is as followed: but the boot sector is actually on a 500gb Toshiba drive Why? Quote yet when i right click on it and go to properties it shows that almost the full 138.5 has been used. Download TreeSize http://www.jam-software.com/freeware/ See if that can tell you what's eating up all that space. The reason I've got the boot sector off of the RAID is because for some reason the boot sector doesn't work on them. I've tried it quite a few times and it never works without keeping the windows disk inside constantly. I decided after over 5 installs to just go with the easier alternative, which is to install it on the RAID and then MOVE the boot sector to the Hitachi (forgot it's Hitachi not Toshiba, but it's just a minor detail) drive. Alright, after running TreeSize it comes as saying that 92,144.7 MB is used for "System Volume Information", 26,320 for Windows, the rest are divided with games, users and such.I'm starting to find a lot of help sites on this now that I know it's from system volume information, thanks for the help! I'm still searching, but I'll let you know when I've found the solution with a link. Feel free to drop in some of your own ADVICE if you think it'll help.Well I looked around and my problem didn't seem to match up with others. What I narrowed it down to is over-archiving. Most likely what happened is that I searched my entire computer for some file that I forgot where I put and clicked the little thing that came up "make future searches quicker." I'm not positive about this, but that's the only explaination for "archive folder and subfolders for quicker searching" being checked on EVERYTHING. Right now the problem I'm running into is that when I apply the settings to remove the archiving I get admin warnings on every single file. I guess on 64-bit 7 it's not enough to be an administrator. It's kind of annoying. Any CLUE how to force these settings to take hold?Click start and type cleanmgr into the search box and press enter. Select your drive's letter from the list and click OK. Click on clean up system files. This will run the cleanup with elevated privileges. Click the More Options tab. Now click on Clean up under system restore and shadow copies and click OK. See if that gets some of your drive space back.I went ahead and did that. Usually I use CCleaner instead of the windows utility, but neither of them get more than a few MB. I've already tried the shadow-copy thing and setting it to use a maximum of 5% of the hard drive, but still I'm left with only 80mb of space. I removed the archive thing from as many files as i could and it's still huge, perhaps the shadowcopy thing really is the problem, but nothing I do seems to eliminate it, even the direct commands under an elevated cmd prompt. Even after going over the instructions with a fine-tooth comb nothing seems to raise my free space to anything over 100mb.You deleted all but the most recent restore point and the System Volume Information is still taking up 92,144.7 MB?Well the restore points were already disabled so I was trying to find space where there was none. I thought indexing would eliminate some of the clutter, but it remains at 92,144.7 as reported by treesize free. Even after a restart. I'm honestly not sure what to even try at this point. I've gone through System restores, Eliminating Indexes and ARCHIVES, and clearing everything that windows cleanup utility will allow me to. I'm starting to think it's a problem with one of my installed programs leaking, but the files are of the windows variety. I'll get you an example of one of them: The biggest one is called {8417858a-f9b3-11df-8701-001fc63e3bd6}{3808876b-c176-4e48-b7ae-04046e6cc752} and it's described as a system file. 3.53gb. The rest are smaller, but there's 284 of them. It's pretty ridiculous in general. The system volume information alone is taking up 63% of my hard drive. I wish it could have at least affected a less important hard drive I've got 830gb to spare and it's taking up the most valuable space.Bump! Hoping to get some fresh help please. |

Solve : how to zip and mailing large files? |
Answer» Just like the ad says "you got this nice camcorder but you find out you can't send anything over 25mb." Can you zip it and send that way? and if so I don't see how to zip a file. I see there are several programs for sending large files but they want money. I'm using Win 7. Thx!Sending large files can be done for free with file hosting sites such as http://www.sendspace.com. The problem in trying to zip a video file is that most are already compressed (unless it is in RAW format) so you are trying to compressed an already compressed file. You are missing the point. When SPLITTING a large video file using a zip or rar archiver application, whether it is WinZip, WinRAR, 7-zip, or whatever, you are not SEEKING to reduce the total data size, because as you say, practical video files are compressed already. You want the file to be split. You choose a compression setting of zero. With WinRAR and 7-zip this is called "store". WinZip calls it "no compression". The archiver app does not have to bust a gut and waste cpu cycles and take a very long time trying (and failing) to compress the video, but you get the data split into chunks. MANY videos e.g. DVD rips are split this way for distribution on Usenet. Quote from: Salmon Trout on October 10, 2011, 03:52:07 PM You are missing the point. No ST, you missed my point. The OP wanted to zip video files. Everyone else either said it can't be done or offered work arounds. I told the OP why you couldn't zip video files.Quote from: rthompson80819 on October 10, 2011, 04:29:51 PM The OP wanted to zip video files. because... Quote from: The OP you find out you can't send anything over 25mb." Can you zip it and send that way? The OP asked if using zip would get around a problem they described. Send... over 25 mb... From these words I believe the OP has hit some kind of email attachment maximum size ISSUE, and that the OP has heard of using a ZIP archiver to get around that, in which case it is you who have missed the point. yousendit.comI have heard this misconception before, that zipping will reduce file size. Well, not in all cases. Specially video that is already in compressed format like mp4 etc. I would recommend either setup your own HFS [like the other user mentioned] or use commercial tools [such as Binfer, Yousenit] designed to solve these kind of problems. And do not forget the good old postal mail. It has served humanity for quite some time :-) Some food for thought: I understand that you are looking for free. But free is relative to how you value your time. If you value your hour at $10 and you waste 2 hours searching for something free when you could have bought something for $10 and get the job done then, is the free thing really free? |

Solve : The use of registry cleaners will harm my PC?? |
Answer» The use of registry cleaners will harm my PC?YesQuote from: Allan on September 16, 2011, 08:06:25 AM YesWHY? Read THA Myths section...Quote from: giuliano26 on September 16, 2011, 09:00:55 AM WHY? the same reason that drinking drano would harm your digestive system.Quote from: BC_Programmer on September 16, 2011, 10:12:55 PM the same reason that drinking drano would harm your digestive system. That's got to be the best analogy I've every heard for explaining a registry cleaner. But yes, GIULIANO, registry cleaners are nothing but trouble and really quite unnecessary. They break more than they fix. It's impossible for a registry cleaner to know and understand every single possible registry entry and they often make suggestions of things to delete that you actually need (or delete them without asking). The only time you should touch the registry is to fix a specific problem and it should only be done if you really know what you're doing. Otherwise you could do as much damage as the registry cleaner does. Best thing to do is just stay away from them. Thanks for the help guys. I will never use registry cleaners. These days’ people are buying registry cleaner and registry boosters or optimizers, simply because they prevent system crashes and optimize the Windows registry and enhance the PC performance. If your PC is SHOWING symptoms like slow performance, a long STARTING time, it is freezing frequently or it is crashing without any apparent reason. Then it may be having some issues with the Windows registry. As for Window registry, it is a place on the hard drive where Windows keeps the record of information it might need in the future like the changes made to system settings, applications opened etc. It is the place where you'll find things like user profiles, information REGARDING the file types, hardware and software installed or deleted. So now you may have a query as to why to have a registry cleaner, the answer is with use this windows registry gradually becomes out-of-date and gets loaded with obsolete information. This may happen because of many reasons like when an application is removed just by deleting the folder, changing drive letters or simply moving the file without updating its record in the registry. Whatever may be the situation these incorrect records accumulate inside the registry and they corrupt it. As a result computer slows down, shows errors, system alerts and even crashes. It also becomes evident that you've got problems with your registry when your computer boots slower than before. To prevent a situation like this where the window registry does not function properly and also to optimize i tried WinZip Registry Optimizer and it really drastically improves the overall performance of my PC. I downloaded from latest WinZip updated version at SPAM link removed... Hope it might help you. And your info is higly innacurate at best...Quote from: richardwilly on September 22, 2011, 09:53:11 AM Whatever may be the situation these incorrect records accumulate inside the registry and they corrupt it. As a result computer slows down, shows errors, system alerts and even crashes. It also becomes evident that you've got problems with your registry when your computer boots slower than before. This is just nonsense. Sensible people will DISREGARD it. On a humorous note, I wonder if people realise what "willy" means in UK (British) slang? Somehow very appropriate. Spammer. Reported. Although i couldn't get hold of the nonsense Police....their servers are overloaded. Before you do anting to the registry, do this simple test. Make a new user account. Reboot and log into the new account. If there is no difference, a registry cleaner will not help. If there is a difference, the registry clean is not needed, just repair the user. What?I am going off to repair my user *takes up 50W soldering iron, screwdrivers, toolbox, and hustles off to find the user." |

Solve : ASUS Eepc 1015PEM Restore Partition Access? |
Answer» I am trying in vain to access my restore partition on the above machine. I have followed the mfrs directions explicitly first f2 then f9 etc. but when i get to the part were I am supposed to reinstall windows, my regular version just boots up instead. Image the entire drive with Macrium Reflect. You didn't say it was corrupted or infected. You asked: "...to save all the driver data and the OS in case of disaster, such as a complete HD crash..." Macrium will image to external USB drive. It also allows creating USB boot drive. Thanks for the reply. I did not know Macrium would do this. The USB thing is huge, because then I could get to my backups. Why I am suggesting that POSSIBLY there is some corruption, is because the f9 factory restore does not work as well as the boot booster function in the bios. From what I read, there is a hidden place on the HD that the bios reads to help Win7 to load faster which is a bios controlled function. So with these not working, I am just thinking that there must already be something wrong. I will check out your suggestion unless I get some other ideas. Quote from: Frazzled on September 18, 2011, 03:26:31 PM ...From what I read, there is a hidden place on the HD that the bios reads to help Win7 to load faster which is a bios controlled function. ...No, not true. Win7 has a System partition to control boot functions. Has nothing to do with BIOS. The manufacturer's Recovery partition is BIOS "controlled", i.e. restored from BIOS menu. If something is wrong with partition table, "F" keys won't work. You should be able to get Recovery CD's from Asus. You can get a USB CD/DVD drive. I've got one from a laptop that died. I never use it anymore. Thanks for setting me straight. My computer illiteracy shows. Seems I know just enough to get myself in trouble. :-) Anyways, what you are saying is most likely correct. The special bios activated partition must be corrupt. I will contact ASUS today and try to get/download the restore disc. What my concern is though is that If I have to use it I will lose the Home Premuim advantage if it downgrades me to the Starter Version. Is there no way to recreate that restore partition with the current configuration? I have no disc for the Home Premium but it DOES show it is registered and legit. If you use the factory restore method...whether by hidden partition or with a CD they provide you lose all your data and apps and it takes the PC nack to Day One status... So if it shipped with Starter then thats what you'll wind up with. Home Premium will be gone.Quote from: Frazzled on September 19, 2011, 06:47:50 AM ...I have no disc for the Home Premium but it DOES show it is registered and legit...Are you the original owner of the netbook? It either shipped with Starter or Home Premium? BTW,you probably don't use the added features of Home Premium. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/compareHello, In response to your question, unfortunately I am not the original owner. I called them and they had others work on it and do not know what exactly was done if anything. OK, after perusing the different editions, you are probably correct that the starter editions would most likely SATISFY most if not all of my requirements. I AM having a bit of a problem in getting a separate restore disc. I will try ASUS again with hopefully better results. I will keep you informed.Best of LUCK... Normally the manuf. are pretty decent to deal with...Well maybe NORMALLY the mfgrs are good to deal with, but NOT in this case. After I finally reached a live person who was pleasant on the phone, but not helpful in this case. They said I have to contact by either internet or phone, the ASUS E-Store whereby I would be helped further. I was encouraged by this but upon further calling, The rep at the E-Store said that for my particular model that there are no recovery disks that can be made, shipped, or purchased. If there is a recovery problem you need to send the netbook in to them for service. I told them this was unacceptable and that I would factor this in when purchasing a new computer as well as telling my associates. So here I am, back at square one.Solution seems clear: sell it & find something else. Thanks for your helpI'd bet the latest version of Ubuntu would run just fine on that machine... Did i mention it's Free ? ? |

Answer» This MAY sound silly but I can not seem to find the answear for this question. I can not seem to find the answear for this question. There is a good reason for this. Think about it. You might be genuine but equally you could be a person trying to hack someone else's account, and even if we believed you, and we knew how to do what you want, we wouldn't tell you how to do it because this is a public web site and anyone could Google for "hack Hotmail" and surf right in here and read it, doing our reputation no good at all. You were foolish not to change the password before making that other non-significant. You were also foolish not to back up those contacts. Many thanks.Windows Error Reporting can be buggy, check the files that it sends?I had a problem updating a version of IE once and I would get the same message. And I eventually did get a solution from MS that worked. But it takes some time if I remember. If it's very technical, I'd be afraid to attempt. I did download IE9, but that was at least 3 months ago ~ and this just started in the last 2-3 weeks. Thanks, though.Try RESETTING Internet Explorer http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737I haven't done it yet, but have bookmarked the page. Thanks much. The last time I had this problem occuring RECENTLY on my IE8 browser was not resolved by any Windows checking solution. However without any changes or reinstalling/resetting IE, the stop error did not appear as of this time. The PC was on the same time installing critical or recommended updates which were installed successfully and now fully patch. I was also making a weekly clearing of cache or junk files by using Ccleaner and scanning with an updated Superantispyware for tracking cookies. Frequently do I scan by MALWAREBYTES but I update it ANYWAY. |

Solve : Kids Lenovo Died BOOTMGR Missing?? |
Answer» Thank you for having a LOOK at my problem today. It would be ideal if you could ascertain whether Vista or 7 is installed.Just how might I go about finding this part out , it doesn't go past "boot manager is missing." Is it in the F2 setup somewhere? The recommended sites are much the same, Transfusion. They all assume that you can enter the computer and run it as normal and have the windows 7 CD or similar. Unfortunately I don't . He doesn't and I'm not sure if the techy at school is WILLING to use their copy or CD to put an operating system on it for him. So where to from here? Thanks ImnoGuru.Quote from: ImnoGuru on October 18, 2011, 05:26:29 AM Just how might I go about finding this part out , it doesn't go past "boot manager is missing."I had to fix my Windows 7 "bootmgr is missing" error a couple of days ago after I made the mistake of choosing the wrong drive to overwrite the MBR while creating an Ubuntu startup USB drive. The Windows 7 and Vista bootloaders are the same-I borrowed a friend's Vista Setup DVD (which by the way, was an OEM HP disc) and launched Startup repair from the disc, and followed the INSTRUCTIONS here: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/fixing-bootmgr-is-missing-error-while-trying-to-boot-windows-vista/ without any issues. No you don't need to boot into Windows and "run it as normal", you just have to be able to boot from the setup DVD/USB drive to fix your problem. One thing's for sure-you'll require a Vista/7 setup disc to be able to fix this problem... but seeing as you already have an XP setup disc on hand and have trouble finding one you might as well wipe the laptop. Be sure to install a good antivirus program when you are finished. |

Solve : computer freezes when opening internet? |
Answer» My laptop had been open to the internet and iTunes for a while. When I went to type a new website in the screen completely FROZE. Task manager wouldn't work, so I powered off. When I turned it back on, it scanned a disk and SAID it was OK after a while. So my laptop restarted and it seemed fine, but when I went to the internet, after a minute it would freeze. Again, nothing worked, my mouse froze, task manager wouldn't come up so I was forced to shut down. When I restarted it scanned disks again, but the same thing keeps happening. Usually when I have a virus, I start in safemode with networking, update malwarbytes and let it fix the problem. Now I can't start in safemode, it keeps stopping on crcdisk.sys Is that the ONLY thing you've tried ?? No Anti-virus scan, Malwarebytes in normal mode ETC etc Maybe you should start a new topic in the Virus section !!Quote from: reddevilggg on October 20, 2011, 05:24:37 AM Is that the ONLY thing you've tried ?? No Anti-virus scan, Malwarebytes in normal mode etc etc I can't run anything because I haven't been able to GET on my compute at all. Anyway, I don't think it is a virus, after researching this error some, it looks like it might be my harddrive.Try Safemode with Networking and post all currently installed protection softwares such as antivirus, firewall, scanners or Ad blocker. |

Solve : Windows Vista: Reformat C:? |
Answer» Hello to everyone on the forum. This is just what you see in Computer, such as Local Disk (C:) - the drive label is just "Local Disk" You can ignore this post. (Not only useless, he's a spammer.) Not a good ad for your "services", Bob! I have tried all, "c:" and "local disk". Both of these did not work for me. And i am using the "Windows Vista Reinstall Disk" the one that says that it is for distribution with new pc and that software is ALREDY installed on computer. Either way, you do not have to do what you are doing.I tried to just re-install the windows, but i feel that removing all previous contant will help it. Quote from: zeroburn on October 20, 2011, 11:55:24 AM I tried to just re-install the windows, but i feel that removing all previous contant will help it. Why? Does the cd install Vista from scratch? If so, you will be given the option to format first. If it's a restore disc that takes the system back to factory shipped state, it will format before installing on its own. |

Solve : can't attach photos to emails? |
Answer» This is happening on two computers I use. An HP PRESARIO with VISTA IE9 and an HP laptop Win7 and IE8. I recently bought and INSTALLED the software for a Sony Handicam camcorder. I first NOTICED this last night when I couldn't attach any photo or other file but after trying several times it did attach two pictures but it was like not going smoothly-it attached one file and the other appeared differently. That is it showed one picture and the icon for the other picture. Now today it's back to nothing at all. I've successfully attached many photos in the past to emails. I'll try system restore and MALWAREBYTES. Any other advice? Thanks! |

Solve : Full factory reinstall of Windows using command prompt found with f-10 on reboot? |
Answer» I have an EVEREX lap top that had the reboot problem ASSOCIATED with windows VISTA upgrade, "Upgrade 3-3% complete......". Well I f-10'd on reboot and got the command /NoExecute=Optin /? (something about resetting with a FULL restall to factory Windows) but I didn't write down the string and I got IMPATIENT and stopped it before it completed. Now I get a message "Windows cannot complete the installation. to continue installing Windows restart the computer." on restart it goes to the same message. When I try f-10 again the full string is not there, only the /NoExecute=Optin with a blinking curser. Can you tell me the rest of the string to write in to restart redoing the factory reinstallation? And just FYI Jason2074, when someone has their fingers crossed behind their back like that, it usually means they're lying. Solve : Display Crumbles and Recovered? |
Answer» I have an acer laptop with NVIDIA geforce 310M cuda 512 MB graphics. Often times the display starts to crumble and then returns to the original display. After that a message comes in that says "the display driver has stopped working and recovered". Does it mean the graphics card or chip is near to its end or failure?Have you tried updating to the latest drivers? I have SEEN a GT 550M laptop have similar issues with the OLDER 197.33 drivers. By "crumbling" do you mean that artifacts appear on the screen? If so, then that means your chip is failing. I have successfully fixed a failing MOBILITY Radeon HD 4350 on an Asus laptop by using a Panasonic 1200W hairdryer on full blast. I held the hairdryer 4 cm away from the chip for 10 min-1 hour later, lo and behold, no artifacts. The laptop was already out of warranty.what do you mean by artifacts on display?please describe.Quote from: theng on October 12, 2011, 11:32:56 PM what do you mean by artifacts on display?please describe. Perhaps it would be better if YOU describe what you're experiencing or, if necessary, take a picture of it and post it so we can see exactly what your issue is."Artifacts" is an umbrella term meaning errors in graphics rendering. such as this. yes just like on the picture that you have posted. That is exactly the thing that I am experiencing with my laptop.Try reinstalling the latest driver. If that doesn't WORK, the chipset might be going. |

Answer» For the past two weeks when I try to download any update, when the security scan finishes, it always says it contains a virus and is DELETED. I just tried to download the Microsoft malicious software tool, and the security scan says it contains a virus. We are on a Dell and have been using Zone Alarm for the firewall, AVG for antivirus, Spybot, CCleaner, Ad Aware, and the Microsoft tool regularly. Any ideas of what is CAUSING this? Solve : Windows Update and Drive D? |
Answer» EVERYTIME I go on my computer, it says I need to install Windows Update, so I do it. I restart the computer and it says that the updates were not configured right. This happens all the time. What should I do? Also, it keeps saying that I have low disk space on drive D. The only thing is that I have deleted my files from Drive D about a dozen times now and THERES nothing left. What should I do?Try following this link -> An update is not installed successfully Could you post your Available and Used space on each partition?I tried your link that you gave me and it doesnt work as I still have low disk drive. Can you please tell me about the used space on each partition? What does that mean? I actually think I posted it somewhere already. If your talking about what I think your talking about, I posted it in the post that I started "My computer is fixed...sort of".Open My Computer then right-click partition drive (C: or D:) or use View menu and choose Details and Free/Total/Used space will be visible. Did you follow the suggestions on the Microsoft link - Repair or Restore? When I clicked on the link Microsoft Fix It came up. I let them handle any problems I had. They SAID everything was ok and I had to restart the computer to install the updates. When I restarted the computer, it said the samething I had before, that the Windows Update were not configured. I think I hit restore and nothing has changed. It still says I have low disk space on Drive D. I have deleted everything I could from Drive D. How many PARTITIONS(C:, D:, E: ....) do you have on the hard drive? Where is your operating system installed? Where program files folder is located, that is where your operating system is, and that is where windows updates should also be. Also post your free and used space by following my PREVIOUS reply. Are you sure you have emptied your RECYCLE BIN?Quote from: jason2074 on September 25, 2011, 09:21:57 PM How many partitions(C:, D:, E: ....) do you have on the hard drive? I do a disk cleanup and I choose either between Disk C or D. I choose C obviously. Now I have deleted some files. I hope this works now. I deleted Recycle Bin stuff, downloaded program files and a couple of other things, which Im not sure of. |

Solve : acer one netbook with windows 7 starter cant boot to welcome screen? |

Answer» when i turn it on it goes to a screen that says boot normally or start diagonistics i tried both and nothing happens it just goes to the welcom screen but it doesnt say welcome its just the background and the diagonistics doesnt say anything. what do i do? It has no cd drive as wellCan you boot to your BIOS menu setup? Its either F2 or Del key on first boot-up of your computer or look on the POST screen for the right key. Then try loading default settings usually found on the bottom of your screen. Make sure to save and exit.I tried that to and nothing can i get to the command prompt and try something from there? This is my friends laptop and dont know much about it. If the laptop just doesn't boot to Windows, can you get into the recovery partition? If it would be POSSIBLE to take the hard drive out, plug it into another working PC, save all of your data, that would be great. screen that says boot normally or start diagonisticsAre you booting to Advance Boot Menu(pressing F8) or does it take you directly on startup? Hi, You many face boot HANG problems during the boot up of Windows 7 operating system. Hanging means booting cannot be processed after starting the boot process. Slow boot problem indicates that it TAKES a long time to complete the boot process; from starting till the end. Virus or malware INFECTION is the main reason for the boot process hanging. If your PC contains many startup processes, you may face slow system boot up. Also limited RAM space could result in the slow boot process. When the black screen shows up it only gives you the option of running the diaganostics test or start normally thats it i dont press anything when i turn it on it just goes to that screen.I know it is not exactly a super high-tech fix, try pressing F2 rapidly as soon as you press the power button to turn it on, you may be able to access BIOS through that method. Failing that, try F8 for Windows 7 Boot options.Quote from: bobsklarservices on October 12, 2011, 12:13:14 PM I know it is not exactly a super high-tech fix, try pressing F2 rapidly as soon as you press the power button to turn it on, you may be able to access BIOS through that method.
