Solve : Bookmarks Don't Change When I Change Google Accounts? |
Answer» Previously, When I changed GOOGLE accounts on my Windows 7 PC's Chrome browser, a second instance of the browser would appear in the Taskbar. I BELIEVE I changed accounts by clicking an icon to the right of the address bar. That second instance of the browser would contain the bookmarks of the second account, and when I opened a new tab, that new tab would still be linked to the second account. |

Solve : Windows Media Player and Codecs? |
Answer» After having a virus problem a few years ago Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit was reinstalled on my computer, however, it no longer had Windows Media Player. After many futile attempts to get a Windows Media download from Microsoft, I gave up and tried other media PROGRAMS that I was equally unable to download my CDs to so that I could burn music for my car CD player. I finally got really ticked about this and contacted Microsoft and a very nice tech went into my computer and apparently, Windows Media was there all the time, unbeknownst to me, and all he had to do was check a few boxes and I had Windows Media Player. However, when I tried to Rip a CD it told me that I didn't have the proper Codecs to do that. Same message I was getting when I tried to rip a CD from other media programs. My question is how do I get the proper Codecs for these CDs for Windows Media? I've looked into it and there have been dire warnings about some of these Codec downloads so I don't know which ones to trust or which ones I need. I'm not all that tech savvy so any answers to my problem have to be at kindergarten tech level. THANK youI last used Windows Media Player to burn MP3 CD’s for my car audio and don’t recall it needing any extra codecs. And it was Win7 back then too. So you may have other issues or simply too much has been installed/uninstalled and its now lost the plot. The warnings are pretty specific about lack of proper Codec(s)Can you describe exactly what you are doing to either rip or burn a CD that results in this message? Can you give us the full message that you receive? I put in a CD that I wanted to rip. It would play OK. I've tried setting the Rip Settings Format on every choice given and I still get the same message. I've tried downloading a Codec package that was specific for Windows Media Player and that didn't help. Attached are two snip-its, one of the initial message I get and then the one that I get from Microsoft when I click on the Web Help Button on that small blue window. My apologies for taking so long in getting back to you, but sometimes, life gets in the way.The message stating it may be codecs is very generic and shouldn't be taken as Gospel.Yes, as Patio mentions, the error message there is giving a common cause of errors only because there was no specific error related to whatever you received. I expect it had some error code like 0x8000... in it and that is typically what get's looked up on the website. FWIW I don't think your first attachment "MADE it" so I can't check that one.I will try to send that one again with this reply. My "Guess" is that perhaps the path specified for where to save ripped music is blank. You can access it VIA Tools->Options (You might have to press Alt to get the menu to appear). It's on the "Rip Music" Tab. Make sure the "Rip Music to this location" path exists. I did find the Rip Music to this Location and did make changes as to how I wanted the files to appear, however, when I clicked on the apply tab I got another message stating that I couldn't do what it was that I wanted to do. I've attached a snip-it of the small window that came up.Ahh, well, at least we've determined the cause here in that the location is blank. I've found this thread elsewhere which discusses somebody encountering that second error message. You might have some luck with some of the solutions there. Here is the most popular one: Quote The error message is caused by the broken rip music location, which can be fixed as follows. In WMP's library, PLEASE click Organize, and select Manage libraries - Music . What locations are listed there? If there are any unavailable locations, remove them, and also make sure that a Default save location is set. Do the same for the other libraries (Videos, Pictures, Recorded TV).BC, Thank you for your last suggestion. I followed the directions as given in your post and not only is Windows Media Player ripping music but it is burning it, too! Thanks for hanging in there with me and coming up with the "cure". I am a happy camper. And thank you to Patio & Mark for your interest and help. |

Solve : copy protection? |
Answer» I acquired a USB pen drive that was clearly copy protected by another system. I have bypassed many system but for reason I cannot shake this copy protection. There is not lock button or anything and even diskpart fell short. I do not need this drive it is just an exercise of the mind. Any ideas??Nobody here will help you. Nowadays, USB drives are capable of storing huge amount of data, even up to 1TB! With access to such capacity, we prefer to keep all our important data on USB sticks to keep it with us all the time. However, such portability of important data also raises protection concern. USB drives are portable and very small in size and manufacturers are aiming for making them even smaller with each evolution, which means you can easily lose huge amounts of data in an instant.Does that sound like what you have? Otherwise, maybe you have a Kingston Traveler Locker. Kingston] DataTraveler Locker+ Quote he Kingston DataTraveler Locker+ puts government-grade security onto a flash drive for the masses, with 256-bit AES hardware-based encryption for an extremely reasonable price ($14 street for 8GB). Also available in capacities of 4GB ($12 street), 16GB ($26 street) and 32GB ($65 street), the drive offers strong encryption for personal and business use that is no more inconvenient than entering a password. So you forgot the password? Read the article.spankbot, what does "I acquired it" mean? if purchased new, then talk to the manufactures support line. if 2nd hand, you're buggered.Acquired means that someone wanted to write up a paper regarding his experience as a coda. He gave me drive to place the file on. I believe this was some sort of requirement for renewing his RID certification. That's what that means. What is the model number or BRAND? Might show up with that in Device Manager. Does it appear with a drive letter at all? Similarly, can Device Manager populate any volumes? When you say 'copy protected' what exactly do you mean? Given your use case I assume you mean it doesn't let you copy files to the disk. Can you explain the manner in which it "stops" you?Oh lord. It is.. DANE -ELEC 8GB USB 2.0. Yes it has a drive letter. It is File Allocation Table 32. It is blue and silver. And..oh yea..I cannot copy files to it. COPY PROTECTION DUDE!! As in write protected. Weighs 9.2 grams. Error: The disk is write protected. Remove write protection or use another disk. Need my PC specs too? txt file. This is pretty cut and dry.Just a fyi that not being able to write to drive is also sometimes a failure of the device itself. They can fail and no longer accept writing to them, and they can become read-only. No need for the caps 'yelling' and acting like its a pain to provide details, this is one way to get people to stop helping quickly as for we are all volunteers here Thanks, my confusion over your use of "copy protected" is because write protection is not copy protection. "A Copy protected disk/disc" is when you are prevented from copying files from, or when you are prevented from copying files correctly from a disk. Old Floppy disks were often Copy Protected to prevent piracy through making copies of the diskette. Write Protection prevents writes to the disk. Obviously it also prevents copying files onto the disk, but the term "copy protection" as parlance only applies to the source; CD-ROM's are all "Write protected", for example, but only some are "Copy protected" to prevent being ripped or duplicated in some form. Not intended as pointless pedantry SINCE "Copy protection" is something that it would be a legal liability to help with- Thus Daves reply- "Write protection" is another story, though! Quote This is pretty cut and dryYep, barring a few specific causes, it's often a pretty easy to fix. I've successfully resolved the issue on 2 or 3 drives where it's occurred to me as well. Good to hear you found a solution on your own.BC_Programmer: again this was an exercise on the mind. And you can dangle a solution if you like. I will never need your help. In this life or the next. There is no drive. Okey dokey. Quote from: spankBot on April 04, 2018, 09:19:27 PM BC_Programmer: again this was an exercise on the mind. And you can dangle a solution if you like. Solve : Do I need Windows 7 SP-1? Why?? |
Answer» While using Windows 7 home 32 bit and I go a message that says I need the SP-1 update. What do you mean Win7 blew up ? ?I installed it about a week ago. I twas working fine. After doing SP-1 there were even more updates after that. Over 200. Then after that, I installed a old version of Paint Shop that I have used before. Everything looked good, I shut it down to something. Later, I restarted the machine and something went wrong. It tried to do automatic startup repair, but failed. It could not find the restore point. That is what I call a blowout. Now it's Saturday afternoon and I am on Windows 7 again. This time the SP-1 is in place and working good. Now I am GOING to try something. Again, I will install my old Pa nit Shop Pro version and see what happens. Update. It has been over an hour. And so far Windows 7 is calm and it says it is now SP-1 Spoke too soon. Re set the PC and Windows 7 did 195 updates. This is enough to drive me back to Prozac. How can it have 195 updates after doing SP-1? Anyway, it failed on the next boot up. It could not repair itself. Now I am afraid to ever turn it off. Time for another backup.... check points don't work. Actually i think it's time for a new HDD... Can't keep happenin over and over...it ain't Win7... Quote from: patio on April 22, 2018, 02:27:07 PM Actually i think it's time for a new HDD...I have 3 HDD and all three pass sector tests. Only Windows 7 complains so much. Windows 10 is being nice. Yes, the old thing does have a know hardware flaw, but I don't see how that would corrupt the updates. Other downloads and installs seem to go well. Now I have the updates turned off. Le's see how long Windows 7 can go without another massive update. Quote Yes, the old thing does have a know hardware flaw, but I don't see how that would corrupt the updates. Other downloads and installs seem to go well. Think about what yer sayin here... I'll leave it at that. |

Solve : Seeing moving black squares on computer online? |
Answer» Not sure if posting on the right forum, so if moved I will understand. One of my computers which has windows 7 started getting black squares that blinked when the cursor is moved over them, moved and also some remained still. It doesn't happen all of the time but enough to be irritating. I've run malware and virus programs but am not finding anything. Could my monitor be failing? I have another monitor I could try but haven't yet. I've had monitors fail before but never like this if that is the case. One of my computers which has windows 7 started getting black squares that blinked when the cursor is moved over them, moved and also some remained still.I believe this could be a video RAM related issue (or system RAM if you are using integrated graphics). I had these symptoms with a SHUTTLE system. The problem turned out to be one RAM slot was faulty. Could try reseating if you know what you are doing. I use chrome and have for MANY years without this happening. yes, I am familiar with reseating the RAM or adding more RAM. |

Solve : Windows 7 doesn't recognize formatted DVD? |
Answer» Since I was having so much trouble recovering on another computer, I wanted to make a recovery system for my wife's computer. The computer won't recognize that the DVD+RW (which is recommended to use) that it has been formatted. I even formatted it on another computer but still no go.just checking... just checking... the DVD-RW you created on the other PC has been closed, or finalised or whatever it's called these days.Ejected, if it's been UDF formatted. I assume the DVD ROM is capable of reading + RW disks because they RECOMMEND USING them for making a recovery disk. These are new disks which have to be formatted before using. It says when trying to make a recovery disk that it needs to be formatted. After formatting it, it still reads it as not being formatted. Try a different brand of media...That's the only brand I could find that had +RW but I might be able to locate some without shelling out another 15 bucks. The ones I'm using are Memorex which is a good brand. I'm wondering if a -RW would work? CD and DVD -RW or +RW technology can be unreliable. The disks are more fragile than regular -R or +R write-once disks, and disks recorded on one PC may not be readable on another. I do not see why you are intent on using them. Since a DVD-RW disk can hold only 4.7 GB, you are not going to be able to store much recovery DATA on each one, and if you use disk spanning methods, you multiply the chance of an failed restore due to failure of one disk. Personally, I would get an external hard drive and a free disk IMAGING application like Macrium Reflect. What Salmon Trout says is right. My personal experience with CD RW and DVD RW has been 99% bad. For what i's worth. The 2.5 inch laptop hard drives and now very cheap. The older IDE models are now a real bargain if you want a simple external storage system. Example: Used Western Digital Scorpio 80 GB Laptop Hard Drive 5400 RPM 2.5 inch is on E-bay for about $10 tested by vendor but no returns. IMO it is less risky that the flaky DVD RW discs. If you are making recovery media, then the DVD-R are all you need. You can use the Memorex R/W disks but when Windows decides they need formatting then close the windows format and let the "Laptop recovery Disk maker software" write the disks. The recovery media is only useful if the Laptop is running the same version of windows as it was supplied with. If it is a windows (X) upgraded to Windows 10 then use the Windows 10 boot recovery builder. https://support.microsoft.com/en-nz/help/4026852/windows-create-a-recovery-drive You could also make a complete backup of the system to an external hard drive using say Easues todo backup . |

Solve : Display adapter stopped responding and has recovered.? |
Answer» So, when I updated my driver, so I can play a specific game, it all worked fine. After a while my screen started to occasioanlly go blank, I would just see black screen for about 3 seconds, and then I would be able to see my desktop. My game always crashes and it just says "not responding" so I have to quit game, and in the bottom right corner I get the message "Display adapter stopped responding and has recovered". After that I can re-launch my game and play it until next crash. This is really annoying and I have been searching over the internet , I found many many solutions but none of them worked. So I ask EVERYONE who can help to reply on this post. (my display adapter is Radeon x1300/x1550 Series)Where is the driver from ? ?...it should only come from the card manuf. site.I downloaded it by downloading ATI Catalyst Manager from the official site. It will be either a software issue (driver), or a hardware issue (failing card or overheating), which can also occur with any form of overclocking.I have a Radeon X1300 256MB PCI Express Video Card and it has "Passive Cooling". I had similar issues when it ran HOT playing World of Warcraft many YEARS ago! It has its own fan. So I don't think it's overheating problem. Any other ideas??This does not in any way rule out overheating. If the card is really 8-9 years old, it is likely clogged with dust. I had a Graphics card I bought around 2008 become pretty much unusable around say 2015 until I took it apart and removed the solid blocks of dust that were caked between the fins, whereupon it returned to it's "former glory".I might still have my old driver to share with you. I will look tonight to see if its on my one EXTERNAL hard drive that I save drivers to. However you stated " I updated my driver, so I can play a specific game " This driver that I have might be missing some shader revision etc that the game needs. Additionally a somewhat modern $20-$30 video card would far out perform that Radeon X1300. I picked up a Radeon HD 5450 1GB for $19.99 a month ago for someone needing a cheap upgrade for modern light weight gaming and older titles and it worked out perfect for him.I did clean dust like week ago, and it was really black since it is an old graphic card, but It didn't solve the problem, and right now as a "releif' to my problem is that I play games in really small windowed mode, this way they crash fewer times like once in few hours, otherwise if it is in full screen I get crash every 5-30 mins. So maybe it could be something with RAM or something like that??Could it be problem with ram or something else? |

Solve : Windows 7/10 Dual Boot Issue - Chkdsk? |
Answer» The topic title is fro this:noot thing with The problem i have is that every time i boot Windows the CHKDSK utility keeps running on my D drive (the SSD with Windows 10) - so far i've cancelled this every time however i suspect it will catch me out sooner or later and i'll be back into the crash loop situation again. Is there any way i can RESOLVE this as i do not want to give up either version of Windows as i have games that only run on WIN 10 and other games that run better on Win 7 (plus i like the interface of Win 7). Me too! Apparently this is not an isolated thing nor is it about hardware. There is some kind of problem with doing dual boot with windows 10 and another Windows . From Microsoft: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/forum/insider_wintp-insider_perf-insiderplat_pc/chkdsk-problem-in-windows-7-after-parallel-install/c7bb1c5c-18f8-45da-8689-3d47952ca5d6 Quote UNFORTUNATELY windows 10 has the bad idea to turn on fast startup by default and this corrupts external drives attached when you reboot as well as other operating systems in a dual boot system. My question is this: Have you also found this issue when doing a dual-boot? If so, what is the best solution?just curious, why dual boot and have all these issues when you can just setup a virtual machine within Win10 using the inbuilt Hyper-V?Mark, to date I have never done virtual machine. It look s to hard to me. I have been using dual-boot for maybe 15 years and only recently have I had the odd thing with check disk on boor. I seems to be a flaw in recent versions of Windows 10. Is there an easy way to implement a VM in Windows 10? It can only be implemented with Pro, ENTERPRISE or Education versions of Win 10. If you have Home your out of luck. Quote from: Term_ite on July 10, 2018, 12:12:11 PM It can only be implemented with Pro, Enterprise or Education versions of Win 10. If you have Home your out of luck.Oh No! I got the home version! Doing more research, this is an old issue and has never been fixed. I been fixed in the sense that the problem is corrected in such a way as to not compromise the integrity of either OS in a dual boot system. Some posts elsewhere state when you shut down Windows 10, the partition is put into a a state the other OS sees as as unreliable. So the check disk program starts and finds not real errors. In at least one forum somebody said this is harmful. I have gone through a long lit of forum this claim to have the answer tony to find they don't have the answer. These posts start soon after Windows 10 was introduced. If there really was a fix, surely Microsoft would have documented it for the benefit of Windows 7 users. But I am still open to suggestions. My best guess is to disable the check disk program in Windows 7. I am not sure how to do that Do you have "Fast Boot" disabled in Windows 10? If not then When WIndows 10 is shut down it's more like hibernation; which means some file system structures might be affected and detected as incorrect when booting into another version of Windows. Additionally Windows 8 and later changed the NTFS Log format for Metadata. Windows 7 only supports version 1.1 of the CLFS but the new version is 2.1. Windows 10 sees "bad' entries as per CLFS 2.1 and Windows 7 see's "bad" entries as per CLFS 1.1. Thanks. I was unaware the NTFS had been altered. That makes sense and would ex-plain why good disks are being checked. So if I want tohare data between two OS, maybe I shooed use a fat32 drive? autocheck is being run because a dirty bit has been identified on the drive / partition in question. Unfortunately, autocheck does not run with the /r switch - it only checks the drive, it doesn't repair it. Assuming "D" Drive is the partition or drive being checked, what you need to do is open a command prompt within Windows and type: chkdsk d: /r (and then press enter). As long as it isn't your system partition, checkdisk will run. It may tell you the drive needs to be unmounted. Just say "yes". If it IS the system partition, you will be asked if you want to run checkdisk on the next boot. Say "yes" and reboot. Checkdisk will run and attempt to repair the problem. Hopefully it will be fine after that. You should have the OS's installed to seperate HDD's as suggested months ago... Quote from: patio on July 11, 2018, 05:39:04 AM You should have the OS's installed to seperate HDD's as suggested months ago...Yes, I have also tried that. Had to find where the third SATA port was on the motherboard. The BIOS calls it SATA 5and I have no idea where the others are. It only works if the drives and not 'see' each other. If bother drives are enable in the BIOS, then Windows 10 will decide to mess with everything it can find. I have now turned off the fast boot thing in Windows 10 and today it seems to fix the problem. I am going to try several re boots and switch between systems just to see. As I write this I am in Windows 10.Disable Fast Boot is hard to find. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-performance/fast-startup-how-to-disable-if-its-causing/f9a4a2d0-104d-42dc-9946-4a2e13c0a348 The above is the latest,I think, explanation from Microsoft. Quote In this article we're going to discuss how to disable Fast Startup. Why? In many systems it is known to cause issues with shutting down, restarting, etc. For example, on my system after I would shut down my system, it wouldn't fully shut down and would remain in a hibernation state instead. After I went ahead and disabled Fast Startup, I was able to successfully shut down.Other posts elsewhere say it disturbs Windows 7 and then Windows 7 wants to check some or all partitions of visible Hard Drives. Even Microsoft said that somewhere. I am still at work on this. |

Solve : X86 prcocesor? |
Answer» Hello , Looking up that system, it should have been sold with a 64-bit OS of Windows according to google. If you have a 32-bit install of Windows, then you will need to install the 64-bt version of Windows. There is no 64bit emulation for 32-bit OS to support 64-bit programs. Good morning , After talking with microsoft support they tell me its an oem key and to contact Dell... Well Dell was no help at all they just wanted m,e to buy NEW version from them.. after going back to microsoft thwy gave me the following link . https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 I downloaded the file but got stcuk on this instruction. 3: Once it is Downloaded, Please right on the ISO file, click on 'file explore' and go to 'source folder When i right clicked on it does not show "file explorer" anywhere. Thanks again for the help In browser under downloads you should see it. You then will need to use a burner utility to burn it to a DVD or use a utility that will erase a 8GB or larger USB stick and make the USB stick bootable. This will install Windows 10 clean to computer. You will WANT to backup any important data that you might have on this computer first before installing Windows 10. After installing Windows 10, unless you have a Windows 10 key or can get Microsoft to grant you an activation, it will be an install that will keep telling you in the lower right corner that this version of Windows is not activated and click to activate. When clicking to activate you need a key for Windows 10 that Microsoft will approve for Windows 10 use. I don't believe a Windows 7 key can be used ANYMORE for Windows 10 and so after this you will likely have to BUY A KEY for Windows 10 from Microsoft to activate it. However if Microsoft will grant you an activation by chatting with their support then you can get one free. If they say sorry we cant do that though, then your looking at the cost of a Windows 10 key which last I checked was $99.99 (USD) for Windows 10 64-bit Home Edition. Cheaper route would be to contact Dell and get the System Recovery Media for that computer which would be around $35 + shipping (USD) for whatever OS version the system was sold with, which should be a 64-bit OS according to Google searching that model which came with 4GB RAM. A System with 4GB RAM should have been sold with 64-bit OS to make full use of the RAM as for 32-bit OS can only use 3GB of 4GB. If System was sold with lesser than 4GB RAM then its more likely that its a 32-bit OS system. Quote from: DaveLembke on July 06, 2018, 09:11:00 AM In browser under downloads you should see it. You then will need to use a burner utility to burn it to a DVD or use a utility that will erase a 8GB or larger USB stick and make the USB stick bootable. Awesome thank you so much for the help with this it is greatly appreciated!! |

Solve : Is it possible to lower RAM usage? |
Answer» Hi,I'm Gary and I always wanted to ask a simple but to me a very interesting question and that is...Is there a way for Windows to use even less RAM or to optimise (optimize I dunno how you spell it) it even further except disabling the features,is there maybe an option or...command for that. "Gamers" in particular are often liable to buy gobs of RAM and then spend hours trying to use as little of it as possible. It's like buying a King size bed and then making deliberate efforts to never use more than the area of a twin, just so you can look at the bare parts of it and go "Look how much free bed I have, my sleeping experience is truly optimized!" Unless something has a memory leak and is grabbing it all up or your working with an old computer where you need your base memory to be larger than a certain value, optimization of memory is pretty much useless these days just like BC stated. Only memory optimization I can think of that makes sense would be a programmer or developer where a group of programmers are trying to make something run faster, so that on each computer its distributed to will run it as efficient as possible. Also years ago memory optimization had a better payoff for the effort spent in doing it. These days computers are so fast that the gain is pretty much only SEEN in a benchmark result, but that to the end user it seems to perform the same. Additionally if you have lots of paging going on where hard drive is being USED as virtual memory because you only have say 4GB RAM and the system would run far better on 8GB or more, then it makes more sense to just go with a RAM upgrade for more memory if your system can take on additional memory. If your system is one that is maxed out on memory supported and your trying to reduce the memory use, then its pretty much time to buy a newer computer which can go beyond the 4GB memory mark and run better. Also a performance gain could be had this way as well in possibly a better CPU and GPU and maybe SSD instead of HDD. *Btw used the 4GB memory example because I have recent seen some people with computers from around 2009 that can only handle 4GB RAM and all the RAM gets used up with Windows 10 and they have lots of paging going on. They bought new computers with 8GB RAM and problems solved. |

Solve : The memory could not be read and sometimes not be written? |
Answer» When I'm playing Rust for like 2 HOURS or something, Rust crashes and it says something like The memory could not be read, I have no idea why this is happening Appears to be a game bug possibly. Some people GOT rust to crash also, It's a game bug probably, and Btw I installed crystaldiskinfo and the health is caution, What does it mean? and How do I fix it?Caution means that the drive is unhealthy or damaged. Please create a snapshot of the results and share that here and we can point out where the issue is. Right now if you have any important data on the system, I would back it all up to an external drive which is also hopefully healthy or cloud storage such as Google Drive where you can store 15GB of data for free to prevent data loss if it gets worse or completely dies.In this case not a game bug...it's the HDD.I turned the sectors count to 0 from 1 and the health turned to goodThat doesnt heal a damaged hard drive though. Exceptions can be MADE for an allowance in crystal disk to make it say good even though not exactly good. |

Solve : 0xc000000e windows 7? |
Answer» how can i execute 0xc000000e repair tool when i can not get windows 7 up.not even in SAFE mode or a command prompt. it always seems to come back to this error required device is inaccessible Have you tried using a different hard drive? I've seen messages like this before when hard drives fail. Other instance of message like this was before an installation to which the SATA controller driver was missing at Windows installation, so the hard drive cant be found at installation YET the BIOS shows it just fine. Since your TRYING to repair an installation, I bet the hard drive is ill and that caused the crash and your trying to repair the install on a drive that is sick and not playing well with the repair process.well it seems to act. as jt loads windows drivers, before failing over to a prompt to a repair or nomal. which ever I go with it fails with 0x error . also the compuer will not acts. the cd drive but seems to acts the hard drok the last thing is that before it started to error out was'that if i had anything in the USB port'the PCzwoud try and boot off of that. in trying to change the boot oder i fat fingered f1 and f2 keys Just re-set BIOS back to defaults... how do I do thatAt boot up there is a message at the bottom of the screen to ENTER BIOS...do that and select default settings and re-boot no joy same error train 0xc000000e means either the file system is corrupted or the BCD is corrupted. You can either boot from a Windows Disc/USB drive into the recovery environment and use the command Bootrec /rebuildbcd to rebuild the bcd, or you can reinstall Windows. |

Solve : SFC/Scannow says corrupt files cannot be fixed? |
Answer» I have a Windows 7 Toshiba LAPTOP computer that I'd been having some display driver problems with. I ran the SFC/SCANNOW command and was informed that there are files that are corrupt but these corrupted files could not be fixed. I have no idea what the CBS.log information means exactly, or what to do next to clean up my computer. Could not reproject corrupted file [ml:520{260},l:56{28}]"\??\C:\Windows\System32\oobe"\[l:24{12}]"W32UIRes.dll"; source file in store is also corrupted This error is REPEATED frequently for various other files. When the system file store is corrupted the only good way to repair the system is to reinstall Windows or perform a repair install using a Windows DVD. |

Solve : Missing taskbar?? |
Answer» Awhile ago - and I don't know all the details - my mom did something to her laptop, and her taskbar along with all of her desktop icons just disappeared, while the only window that's ever up is her Windows EXPLORER? She tells me she's already tried a system restore and it doesn't work.A System Restore should have corrected this; but if you were using a restore point from the past that still had this issue affecting it then the restore point wouldn't help you. |

Solve : IP config problem.? |
Answer» Basically, at some point I lost the ability to print from the computer I have connected directly to the router. The rest of the COMPUTERS in my network print just fine wirelessly. I'm not sure what happened there but all of the normal MS stuff to correct the problem hasn't worked. Finally I used a network repair tool from Brother (printer manufacturer) which looked for the printer via IP address and ONLY looked at addresses starting with 192. When I checked the IP address of the printer it started with 172 and so did my laptop and I presume every other "printer friendly" device in the house. I don't KNOW how those all got on 172, I THOUGHT 192 was sort of a default, but from what I've researched this does seem to be a problem. |

Solve : Windows 7 extended support ends in exactly one year's time? |
Answer» Mainstream support for Windows 7 ended back in January 2015, but extended support, whereby Microsoft continues to deliver updates and fixes any vulnerabilities in the OS, runs for a further FIVE years. This will come to a halt on 14 January 2020, however, when Microsoft stops supporting the OS completely. This means no more bug-fixes, security patches or new functionality, making any user - personal or enterprise - significantly more susceptible to malware attacks. If you're still using Windows 7, you're not alone. The latest figures from Netmarketshare showed that more than 36 per cent of PC owners are still clinging onto the venerable OS, being overtaken by Windows 10 - which claims 39.22 per cent - for the first time in December. Things GET worse when you look at the enterprise. According to Kollective, which is counting down to the death of Windows 7 on its website, as many as 43 per cent of enterprises are still running Microsoft's nine-year-old operating system. The firm's research shows that, worse still, 17 per cent of IT departments didn't know when Microsoft's end of support deadline hit, while six per cent were aware of the date but hadn't yet started planning for their migration away from Windows 7. https://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/3069305/windows-7-extended-support-ends-in-exactly-one-years-timeIt's higher than 38%...MS won't admit it Quote from: patio on January 15, 2019, 04:23:44 PM It's higher than 38%...MS won't admit itHere is a post that goes along with what Patio said. https://betanews.com/2018/12/01/windows-10-fails-to-overtake-windows-7s-usage-share-but-its-very-close/ NetMarketShare reports on the state of the desktop operating system market on the first day of each month. In OCTOBER, Windows 10 had edged closer to Windows 7, and I predicted that NetMarketShare would finally see Windows 10 emerge victorious in November. It didn’t. In fact, in November Windows 10 actually lost some usage share, dropping 0.14 percentage points. That puts it on 38.1 4 percent, down from the 38.28 percent high in October. One can probably find Operating System usage statistics to support whatever their favourite OS is. Largely because they will all have some measure of sample BIAS. |

Solve : SMB1 Disabled? |
Answer» I can no longer scan to a folder or access shared folders on the network of a Windows 7 PC. Apparently, SMB1 is disabled but when I went to "Turn Windows features on or off" and looked for the SMB 1.0 CIFS Client, it wasn't LISTED. I also CHECKED the Registry (Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters) and SMB1 was enabled. Is there somewhere else that it can be re-enabled? I also checked for the update KB4480970 released on Jan 8, 2019, which caused LOSS to shared folders on Windows 7 PC's and it wasn't installed either. |
