Solve : Operating system fault? |

I then started to get an error message when I try to open itunes. It reads " itunes cannot run because because some of its required files are missing. Reinstall itunes." Having reinstalled itunes several times without success I contacted Apple. They gave me several procedures to follow, none of which cured the problem. They concluded the fault must be with the operating system. When I purchased the PC it was loaded with Windows XP Professional, but I guess it must be a pirated copy as I have no disc with it. I am looking to purchase Windows XP home edition to correct the problem as I don't appear to have the right spec PC to run Windows Vista. There are two questions that I would like advice on. Firstly, would installing the Windows Home Edition disc successfully overwrite the existing XP Professional operating system. Secondly, will it result in me losing all my existing music and photo's that are currently stored on my PC. Any help would be greatly appreciated.1. Is "itunes" the only program you're having trouble with on your PC? Solve : Having terrible boot problems, please help!? |
| Answer» <html><body><p>Hey guys,<br/><br/>well here's the scoop;<br/>I created a partition a while back with vista 64bit and windows xp 32 bit. I installed xp first to create the partition, then installed vista on the other half of the hard drive. Everything worked fine. When I would start up my computer I was prompted for which OS I would like to boot from. However I had to reformat recently and decided to start new with Vista 64 bit and xp 64 bit. I started by reformatting my vista first, then went and reformat xp with my 64 bit version. Now when I start up it automatically boots into xp everytime. I tried editing the boot file in xp but i simply <a href="https://interviewquestions.tuteehub.com/tag/don-t-246903" style="font-weight:bold;" target="_blank" title="Click to know more about DONT">DONT</a> know what line to add or what not to. i messed with it a bit and managed to give myself the option to boot from vista, but now when i try it says something along the lines of "ntoskrnl missing" and it cant start. I'm not sure if I even edited the boot file correctly. I'll post more details of what specifically I have in the boot file when I get home from <a href="https://interviewquestions.tuteehub.com/tag/work-20377" style="font-weight:bold;" target="_blank" title="Click to know more about WORK">WORK</a>. I figured, i'll just boot from cd and rebuild the file, or wipe everything clean and start over, but now I dont even get prompted to boot from cd. it goes directly to my os select screen now. I decided to reformat my xp as well so that I could run xp 64 bit. I reformat my vista with the same 64 bit version as before. When it was finished I restarted, put in xp professional 64 bit, boot from cd and reformat my xp to xp professional 64 bit. I started installing drivers for my motherboard, it restarted and booted immediately to xp. No prompt to boot from cd, no OS select, just directly to xp. I downloaded some boot managers because i didn't want to mess with the boot.ini as i had no previous experience with it. The boot managers were even more confusing, they didn't recognize my partition, and I had to work loops around it just to find my partition with vista on it. I uninstalled it and did a little research on boot.ini commands. So as of right now this is what I have in the boot editor on windows xp professional 64bit:<br/><br/>[boot loader]<br/>timeout=60<br/>default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(0)\WINDOWS<br/>[operating systems]<br/>multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(0)\WINDOWS="Windows Vista Ultimate x64 Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect<br/>multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Professional x64 Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect<br/><br/>Previous to how I have it set now, I had Vista set to partition(2). The computer would just restart when I would select it. I figured that was the wrong partition so I set it to partition(0) and when I select vista, it boots up and I get an error saying that ntoskrnl.exe is corrupt or missing and needs to be replaced or repaired. I checked the E: drive from XP and found that system 32 still has the file ntoskrnl.exe. So it must just be corrupt. However ever since xp professional 64 bit I am not prompted to boot from cd, regardless of the fact that my boot priority is set with cd-rom at the top of the list. <br/><br/>Hope that that's thorough enough! Any help would be so appreciated. Vista handles the boot sector a bit differently than other flavors of Windows but if the XP install is intact there is no reason this shouldn't work...Untill recently I had a XP64/Vista Business dual boot.<br/>I already had XP64 installed on my C drive, and installed Vista on a completely different drive.<br/><br/>Now in my boot.ini file on the C drive, it just had one line, only the XP line.<br/>The real boot file came from Vista, who had created the dual boot file.<br/><br/>The standard OS to boot would be Vista (you know, the OS that starts after 30 secs).<br/>But after downloading EasyBCD and installing it in Vista, I could easily change that.<br/><br/>So, my point:<br/><a href="https://interviewquestions.tuteehub.com/tag/changing-246341" style="font-weight:bold;" target="_blank" title="Click to know more about CHANGING">CHANGING</a> the boot.ini file (from your xp partition) wouldn't do you any good, since Vista creates the dualboot.<br/><br/>Well, thats how it was in my case.<br/><br/><br/><br/></p></body></html> | |

Subsequently I have read that this is a known problem of D80 NEF files and Photoshop Elements 5. Then when I was rebooting Photoshop, the Organizer failed to come up but the Editor does. I have restarted the computer several times and then removed Photoshop and reinstalled it without fixing the problem. Any thoughts on how to fix this? It's been going on for a few weeks, but I just figured out it was when I was using both user accounts. I have Windows Vista Home. and I did log off the other user. I didn't have this problem before. My hard disk came with 3 Primary Partitions: 1)FAT16, 2)Recovery 10 GB, and 3)OS (Vista) 288 GB. When I repartition the 288 GB sector with GParted to make room for the XP system it creates a Logical Drive (145 GB) rather than a partition. <br/><br/>According to Vista's Help & Support there can only be 3 primary partitions on a basic disk. Solve : sharing a dvd drive on Vista w/ windows XP? |

Should I be loading Internet Explorer 8 after W7 upgrade? I'm new at this, so I need somewhat of a checklist to guide me along. I am running Webroot Antivirus that came w/laptop, but subscription expires 8-19-2010 and I will be using Norton produscts when W7 is installed. Please help me. Solve : "Users" File Problem? |
| Answer» <html><body><p>Today, I took a look in my "Users" file (C:\Users). Usually, it would contain a folder for every user on the computer. When I looked in the folder today, the file for my account (the only one on the system) was missing. There are three other folders in the file [Default (hidden), Mcx1 (Does anyone know what this is?), and Public]. I know for a fact that my user file is not hidden because I have configured Windows to show hidden files. I don't <a href="https://interviewquestions.tuteehub.com/tag/think-661001" style="font-weight:bold;" target="_blank" title="Click to know more about THINK">THINK</a> this affects my computer at all because I still have all of my files and I can still access them all. Also, I should <a href="https://interviewquestions.tuteehub.com/tag/add-361838" style="font-weight:bold;" target="_blank" title="Click to know more about ADD">ADD</a> that when I viewed the properties of a random Word document on my desktop, the target was "C:\Users\[user name]\..." which means the computer can still access the folder. Solve : Unable to Re-Install IE8? |
| Answer» <html><body><p>I un-installed IE8 awhile back because I use Chrome as my default, but it turns out many sites require IE for job applications and do not support other browsers.<br/><br/>I have tried to get IE8 back but I have found no available downloads. The Microsoft site says it comes bundled with Windows 7 and apparently gives no link to replace it if you remove it.<br/><br/>If I'm missing something obvious please let me know, I've found no applications to re-install IE8, no downloads and no help on this particular topic on a few forums, including the Microsoft forum. XP proffessional with cygwin installed<br/>When I try to SSH from 188 to 125/220 it works like butter no problem at all.<br/>But, when i try to ssh to 188 from 125/220 it logins succesfully for the first time, but after the 1st attempt it fails randomly. <br/>Consider you attempt 5 times after first login:<br/>Then there are 2/5 chances u can login or 3/5 or if your luck is good 5/5.<br/>But 5/5
