Solve : Windows 7 and Java? |
Answer» HI, I have a friend who plays on pogo.com a lot. He just got a windows 7 machine and found that when he TRIES to play pogo things are small. In other words when he spawns a game the popup java applet shows on his screen about 50% smaller then when he was using XP. Anyone know of a WAY to make the applet/game show bigger on the screen? Thanks thanks but that really doesn't do anything for a java applet. The web site gets bigger but when you start the game the popup is the same size. |

Solve : Keyboard button combinations not working. Fixable and how?? |
Answer» If i press and HOLD the KEYS DSG or ASX at the same time, nothing happens. In comparison: If i press and hold ASD I'll get something like asddddddddddddddddddddddddd in e.g. Open Office Word. And that is what should happen when i press and hold dsq but which does not. It's annoying when I play World of Warcraft. I can't trigger an ability that is keybinded to Q, if I'm already holding down S and D. If i press and hold the keys DSG or ASX at the same time, nothing happens. In comparison: If i press and hold ASD I'll get something like asddddddddddddddddddddddddd in e.g. Open Office Word. And that is what should happen when i press and hold dsq but which does not. It's annoying when I play World of Warcraft. I can't trigger an ability that is keybinded to Q, if I'm already holding down S and D. from wikipedia- notably, the second paragraph. Quote Some low-quality keyboards suffer problems with rollover (that is, when multiple keys are pressed in quick succession); some types of keyboard circuitry will register a maximum number of keys at one time. This is undesirable for games (designed for multiple keypresses) and undesirable for extremely fast typing (hitting new keys before the fingers can release previous keys). A common side effect of this shortcoming is called "phantom key blocking": on some keyboards, pressing three keys simultaneously sometimes resulted in a 4th keypress being registered. It's not a problem with the keyboard, it's a problem with gaming on any keyboard. you have to rearrange your bindings so that the type of stuff you would commonly need to use a lot are bound to keys like shift, control, and alt (if it allows alt to be bound). |

Solve : Windows 7 - "Consider Replacing Your Battery"? |
Answer» "Consider Replacing Your Battery" The battery I am using is 1 year old, so it may in fact need to be replaced, but as far as I can tell it is functioning properly...1 yr. is not very old for a battery, but I'd think you would know whether it was getting near the end of its useful life. How was battery run time before you installed Win 7? |

Solve : Increase thumbnail preview size in Vista without using external application?? |
Answer» I would like to increase the thumbnail preview size in Windows Vista to something more readable (akin to that in Windows 7, actually). Here's the rub: It does indeed. However, I can not download/install a third-party utility or application to do this. Why? Is this a work computer? I believe you have no other option than using a third-party utility since the capability to change the size of preview thumbnails is not is a standard installation of Vista. Why is it assumed that everything has a registry setting? The size of the thumbnail used in Vista is hard-coded into explorer.exe. It's a registry setting in 7, so they "fixed" it, SORT of. Quote from: BC_Programmer on May 11, 2010, 10:18:08 PM Why is it assumed that everything has a registry setting? I guess because so many functions do. To be FAIR, I did ask if there is a registry entry I can change or some other software switch built into Vista to make the change I was after. Knowing it is hard coded at least gives me the information not to waste time to pursue this further. Thanks guys. I know how to do this is XP. but never really Figured out how to do it in vista or 7 Quote from: johngetter on May 12, 2010, 10:11:54 AM I know how to do this is XP.It's not a feature of XP. oh i thought he was talking about the icon size on his desktop lol haha oopes ok now i understand |

Solve : Cannot do a restore, always says it fails? |
Answer» I installed updates for NVidia GForce 6100 yesterday. After installation, the size of icons, words, web pages, desktop, etc., changed to much, much smaller. I have been unsuccessful in trying to change it back so decided to do a restore before the update. I have chosen 3 different restore points and each time it tells me it has failed, choose another restore point. Any ideas as to what I should do? THANKS in advance. Allan, I do not know how, but I got it changed back to the way it was. I was changing Display (1200x800 or whatever the numbers) and the sides of my desktop were black, no picture displayed on the whole screen. Could not get it to display correctly, but now that I have it back, I wish I knew what I did. But what is a disc imaging utility? I'm somewhat computer stupid, so everything needs to be explained. Thanks!Apparently, this was a problem of improper resolution setting after installing the new video driver. Sometimes, resolving such PROBLEMS can be done easier by starting in Safe Mode. |

Solve : Consumer IR devices + CPU at 100%? |
Answer» Hi, "You do not have a problem with your IR device and its driver is perfectly fine, what you have a problem with is a Microsoft Vista update published on the 26/08/09 and called KB973879." However I couldn't find this KB973879 update =/ I tried to uninstall all recent Vista updates, but I couldn't prevent the reinstallation when restarting because I can't open "Windows Update" in Safe Mode somehow. Help is appreciated a lot =)Open Task Manager to the Processes Tab and sort on the CPU column. Which process is eating the cycles? You mean which one is the process using that much CPU? They are all normal, one or two fluctuating between 00 and 05, but that's it...I'm not sure how that's possible. If the cpu is at 100%, at least one process has to be churning away.I know =/ I can check again just to be sure, but the first thing I verified was the CPU usage of the processes and they were all normal. I might be BACK in an hour when Windows finally loaded and I got back in Safe Mode lol. Do you have any idea if any other update may be causing this? As I said I didn't find KB973879. You sure it's not the "CPU idle process" ? ?Do you mean the "System Idle Process"? If yes, then no it's not under the list of running processes...Just checking. You can DLoad and install Process Explorer which will give you a bit more info than Task Manager. The problem was resolved by using the "System Configuration" tool in Control Panel-->ADMINISTRATIVE Tools. I used the "Diagnostic startup" option and restarted a few times. I still think it was because of a Vista update and I'm now very reluctant to these "8 important updates" Vista wants me to install again -.- . Edit: False hope, same problem again as I switched on my laptop today.... Quote from: Amlung on October 10, 2009, 07:46:56 AM Do you mean the "System Idle Process"?Wait a second. System Idle process HAS to be listed. Now I'm confused. Please do as I suggested above - open task manager to the Processes tab. Sort on the cpu column with highest usage at the to (double-click on the "cpu" title). System Idle Process should be the TOP ITEM you see because it show show highest cpu "usage" (not that it's actually "using" the cpu). Now, if the cpu starts spiking one of the processes at the top of the list will also spike. Which one is it? i have the same problem with him with the same laptop also....how can i possibly fix this one....regarding consumer ir devices issues?.....any effective advice....because my computer hangs all the time ,,,pls, pls, pls,,,,,im desperate....thanks in advance guys,,,, |

Open Folder Options by clicking the Start button (or Ctrl-Esc), clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Folder Options. 2. Click the View tab. 3. Under Advanced settings, click Show hidden files and folders, and then click OK. Changing Folder Permissions 2) Here is how you would grant full control permission to this folder: 1.Right Click on the Folder you wish to change properties on 2.Select “Properties” 3.In the Properties window go to the Security tab and click on Edit. 4.If the your user account is not on the list of users or groups that have permissions defined, you should click on add. Now you need to type the user name or the group of users for which you want to change the permissions. 5.After adding your account, Click Check Names and then click OK. 6.In the Security window, select the user/group you just added and then click in the first check box under Allow which is “Full Control” and then click OK. This should be a more clear walk through. So, let us know how this works out." |

Solve : MSN kills my internet?? |
Answer» OKAY so. I have a WINDOWS Vista Compaq laptop. When I first got the COMPUTER, Windows Live Messenger came with it, and worked peachy keen. But a few months into it, MSN stopped WORKING. I would sign in, it would work for around 30 seconds, then it would completely kill my internet connection, and sign me out of MSN. I have HughesNet, which isn't as fast as DSL but it works. I just would like to be able to use my messenger again, without it disconnecting me. Any idea what COULD be wrong, or how to fix it?I would like to recommend you an alternative. Use Digsby or Pidgin (I think digsby is better) instant messengers. You can use them to chat with all your MSN contact and also Yahoo & Facebook (digsby) ones if you like. They are easy to setup and use and will work much faster then Windows Live Messenger. |

Solve : processes? |
Answer» I have 73 processes running is task manager. What ones are safe to end, and can you START it again if needed? You can disable any process you like. If you turn off one that your system needs (like explorer.exe) then just hold down the power button for 7 seconds (faster seconds) and your computer will shut down. Once you boot back up that process will start again. Experiment, you can't damage your computer by stopping processes. The above is rather dangerous advice. Processes are better left alone, unless you're very computer savvy and you know exactly what you're doing. Quote from: Broni on May 07, 2010, 10:43:26 PM The above is rather dangerous advice.Turning off processes is not harmful or dangerous? Turning off services is but not processes.True, but you can't permanently turn off processes without turning off services. What would be a reason to turn off processes?I don't know, maybe to SEE if they were needed or not. But only a very experienced user should attempt stuff like modifying services. helpmenow is most likely not experienced enough. |

Solve : Vista freezes at login screen? |
Answer» I've had this problem for a few day now, tried all manner of things but no luck. When it started I was just using my computer normally, I had MSN, iTunes and Firefox running, when my computer just froze suddenly. After leaving it a few mins I eventually TURNED it off. When it restarted, it came up with the option to go to Windows Startup Repair which it said was recommended, so thats what I did. It eventually restarted, went to the login screen and when I typed in my password it loaded but the screen was just BLACK. I could see bits of the taskbar and my mouse cursor but that was all. I turned it off and back on again and from then on the same thing would happen, except the screen would be COMPLETELY black, none of the taskbar was visible, though the mouse cursor was still there. Now it wont even load the black screen though. I type in password, it comes up with "welcome" and then doesn't change. The mouse cursor is visible and shows the 'loading' icon, HOWEVER I cannot move it. I can't access task manager as I have read elsewhere with people having a SIMILIAR problem, and safe mode does not work. I can however access command prompt from the startup repair utility. I have run dskchk which did not find any errors and only once of the many times I have tried logging in did it come up with an error that said |

Solve : Windows 7 security? |
Answer» Hi, I recently moved from Xp to win 7 32bit home premium. Because I missed the move to vista first I found win7 a little daunting at first, but I now believe it is definately a move upwards from xp, and it flies on my newly built machine. 2 things I hate about 7 is the UAC which ive disabled, I READ it is better than vista, god that must have been awful. The SECOND thing I want some help with is how to make my user account which is supposed to have admin priveliges have full access to EVERYTHING on my computer. An example is if I want to view some pictures in irfanview it gives an error saying I dont have admin priveliges. To me that is a red rag to a bull, its my machine, I want it do do what I want and when I want it. I have looke at folder properties and security and it says that everyone has full access. Sorry but my question is: IS there a way to give my account full control over everything, in other words no security for anybody who uses this machine. Anybody using this machine does so with my consent and as such are fully trusted. Can I turn security off somehow? An example is if I want to view some pictures in irfanview it gives an error saying I dont have admin privileges.I don't know how you've set up your computer and installed your software but I have IrfanView installed with Win 7 and I get no error message when I open it; I get no message at all. Thanks Allan I read with interest on the subinacl link that a lot of ANGST seems to occur when using homegroup, makes me curious because I have this win7 machine networked with about half a dozen xp machines which I couldnt do with homegroup, I just simply configured the network as per the older xp machines. I will report back after ive TRIED subinacl, I would do it now but wish to do complete backup before I do. I have previously tried to do a system restore but it failed due to an error with a win file? What i did notice is the subinacl msi is written for win 2000 and xp??? you may now be seatedYeah, don't worry about it. It runs just fine one W7. Same registry structure. |

Solve : Core i7 overclock? |
Answer» My computer came with a stock speed core i7 920. It also came with an Intel Extreme Tuning program which claims it can auto-clock my processor to a safe speed. The OPTION I am looking at specifically says: "Staying within manufacturer's limits". that is pretty paltry in comparison. You SOUND like a teen boy. You won't notice much difference. Overclocking won't make your RAM, hard drive or display card any faster. I'll differ from the crowd and say go for it. If you ever use heavy CPU intensive apps, such as video renderers, some games, etc., then you certainly COULD see a benefit. It's free performance, and if you know what you're doing, it's a fairly quick process. 1) Read-up and understand what you are doing. You should be able to do this manually or not at all. Understand the risk. Make sure you have sufficient cooling. 2) I would recommend against voltage increases. If at all, do an overclock using the stock voltage. Voltage increases can shorten the life of the CPU. 3) IntelBurnTest is the best thing I know to check that your max temps will always be within a safe range. If you don't have adequate cooling and if you don't know what your safe range is, then you should repeat #1. Quote from: you878 on May 02, 2010, 03:34:47 PM (I want this rig to last for at least five years, hopefully more...) Overclocking is a great way to reach this goal. Quote but compared to the core i7-980X with 3.33 GHZ, that is pretty paltry in comparison. If you want a 3.33Ghz i7, BUY a 3.33 Ghz i7. And don't believe the nonsense that the longer you have a CPU overclocked, the more "used to" being overclocked it becomes. While it's logical to say that for a sentient entity last time a checked a CPU was not sentient and it doesn't get "used" to being overclocked, and the chance of failure doesn't decrease the longer it's overclocked, it increases. The only reason Overclocking is even possible is because the CPU(and, for GPU overclocking, the GPU) chips are made in batches- and they test a select sample of processors from that batch to determine the maximum stable speed. If you get a chip that they used in the test overclocking in any usable amount will fail and cause stability problems and even processor failure in a rather short time. If you're not unlucky and got a processor that wasn't tested, there is a chance it can handle the new specifications. But the chances go down considerably the higher you overclock, after all, the samples they tested in that batch could only work properly at a given speed, so the other processors in the batch aren't going to differ by much.Adding to gregory's helpful post: Quote from: you878 on May 02, 2010, 03:34:47 PM It also came with an Intel Extreme Tuning program which claims it can auto-clock my processor to a safe speed. The option I am looking at specifically says: "Staying within manufacturer's limits".An overclocking program? Stay away from those. Quote Will I notice a difference in performance when overclockingIn some situations, yes. In others, no. Quote and will it really be safe to overclock the processor? If you ensure you know what you are doing and you stay within manufacturer's guidelines regarding voltages and temperatures, yes. Before you begin overclocking, my golden rule is "never CHANGE anything unless you know exactly what it does, what else it affects, and what to set it to". If you don't know, research it, never change things you are at all unsure about. Research on the web first, and then ask someone that knows. I'm a lot more cautious than most when it comes to overclocking so you will get different advice from others. No offence to anyone posting in this thread, or the forum in general, but overclocking tends to be frowned upon by many (not myself) here, for various reasons, so you may not find this forum all that much help to be honest. Do feel free to ask for help with it though once you have researched further, I for one will be happy to help and there are others around too, such as gregory.Burn it up i say....go for the Gusto... Quote from: BC_Programmer on May 03, 2010, 11:13:55 AM Overclocking is a great way to <not> reach this goal.I fully agree with BC. Overclocking can (no will but can) decrease the lifespan of your CPU significantly. Maybe so it won't last 5 years. But you i7 should still be a decent speed CPU in 5 years anyway. My current PC has a Pentium 4 CPU from 2005 and it still preforms well. Quote Intel Extreme Tuning program which claims it can auto-clock my processor to a safe speed. Can you identify this program? Are you sure it recommends overclocking? One place says it does some things to make it possible to overclock with lessor chance of something going real ad. Now that is not same as saying overclocking is safe. It is kind of like the radar detector some people used to put in their automobiles. Did not make speeding safer, just less likely to get caught. technically, it is hard to argue angainst any of the above. Would add one thing about temps and ways to minimise as possible these operating temps. Airflow. Get this right, and you aid yourself in any type of build. In an OC'ed Rig, this is one of the things that is first on the list before Case choice. Anyway, not convinced that you are comfy with the idea of overclocking. That Intel app would only add a modest OC I would think. If you want to join the Dark Arts, BIOS OC is the way. Just an opinion here. Would hate to see you fry an I7. |

Solve : Should I upgrade to Windows 7?? |
Answer» My current desktop is a Dell Vostro 200 running Windows Vista Home Basic SP2 32-bit, with an Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2160 1.80GHz, 2.99GB RAM, and a Intel G33/G31 Express Chipset Family GRAPHICS card. all you would gain is a new taskbar and a bit faster system. And jumplists, and a better windows search, better touch, speech, and handwriting recognition, built in support for Virtual Hard disks (which is useful if you use XP Mode), faster BOOT time, better performance in multi-core processors, kernel improvements, improved support for themes, "library" Virtual folders, progress bars and overlay icons on application buttons on the taskbar (something that I found rather interesting), storage space bars that are only shown for hard disks in Vista are now shown for removable drives as well, redesigned notification area, Aero Peek, Snap, and Shake, new Windows key shortcuts for the new window management functions, MUCH improved font management, faster Desktop Window Manager, support for 30-bit and 48-bit colour depths, DPI settings are per-user rather then per-machine, better superfetch and readyboost, increased performance with SSDs, built in support for biometrics (no more crappy manufacturer applets for those), improved applets, ISO burning built into the OS, Applications crashing twice causes 7 to automatically try to apply a shim, and if that fails it automatically asks questions about the programs desired environment, ability to use windows search to search for text in TIFF files (for scanned documents) Windows XP Mode, and so on. Aside from that though, there really is no good reason. I have used desktop Windows of each version since Windows 3.1 came out in 1992 and I think Windows 7 is the best yet. It is much more than Vista with the bugs taken out. Quote from: Salmon Trout on May 05, 2010, 12:42:36 PM Vista with the bugs taken out. That is pretty much what it is. I was a better tester and I like a few of the new features but a lot of the stuff BC mention may not be needed or wanted by the average Joe. The Windows 7 kernel has undergone significant changes, including major scalability improvements; the user interface has been revamped and the initial desktop experience is completely difference; the fundamental Windows applications have a different look and feel. Windows 7 is another version further on from Vista.Wow, major typo. I can't believe I did that. The kernel difference is only .1, Vista is 6.0 and Seven is 6.1. Fair enough though. I do agree that Win7 is like no other Windows operating system, and I've used everything since 3.1. The user interface has had HUGE improvements. Still I don't think its worth (to me) $100+ upgrade. Quote from: Cityscape on May 05, 2010, 02:10:01 PM The kernel difference is only .1, Vista is 6.0 and Seven is 6.1. what are you talking about? that's the windows version number. has very little to do with kernel changes. Windows 3.1 had a good portion of it's kernel and user mode code rewritten to take advantage of the fact that Real mode was no LONGER supported, compared to 3.0. But it still was just windows 3.1, not windows 4. Additionally, MS released a Kernel update package for Windows 95 that introduced changes to much of the kernel- and it didn't change the version number at all. What about windows updates? they change portions of built-in drivers and kernel code sometimes. should updates change the version number of the system? |

Solve : How do I shrink Flash videos onto a dvd to watch on tv?? |
Answer» Right now i can only fit 40 MIN on a 120 min 4.7GB DVD-R. I want to be able to shrink the Flash videos saved on my computer and burn them to the disk. I want to be able to fit at least the 120 min and be able to run the DVD in my DVD player. Is this possible? How do I do it? Right now i can only fit 40 min on a 120 min 4.7GB DVD-R. I want to be able to shrink the Flash videos saved on my computer and burn them to the disk. I want to be able to fit at least the 120 min and be able to run the DVD in my DVD player. Is this possible? How do I do it?After reading over your question very carefully it becomes clear that the key is to hear is the ABILITY to play the DVD on a standard player. Check the documentation on your DVD player and see what formats are permitted. If the documentation is not clear, or if you wish to have it work on almost any DVD player, then the only option is to create a DVD movie. In general, these are the steps you would have to take asphalt: 1. Convert the files to a format that is usual by your movie editor. 2. Place the files into a new folder. If necessary do some edits on the files. 3. Using a suitable DVD movie maker program and all the files that you can fit into a standard DVD and start the burn process. The key issue here is this, a DVD movie has to be burnt all at once. There is no effective way to burn different portions and then go back and add something else. It just doesn't work that way. There are a number of really good programs out there that will burn a collection of videos to a DVD as a movie that is broken into segments. But they are all burnt at the same time. Perhaps some others here can make recommendations as to their favorite file format CONVERSION programs and DVD movie burner programs. Thank you all for your help The videos I want are from youtube. I'd really like to watch my fav series from my DVD player than sitting in front of the computer, that's what started all of this. I've gotten the videos onto a DVD, and it works in my DVD player, but the quality is crap; I can barely see the picture. The picture is so stretched it's blurry. I have to convert the video from Flash to WMV with RealPlayer Converter to burn it to a DVD using Windows Movie Maker (to string the pieces together)and Windows Media Center(to burn it). This takes me hours. I've tried converting the video to different formats, but they won't work with the programs I've got. Ideally I'd like to keep the videos as Flash, maybe the quality would be better, but I can't burn it to a disk. I also want to be able to fit the 180 min worth. Is this even possible, or have I just been wasting my time?Youtube videos are low resolution and will look really bad on a TV, especially a large screen one. Is there nothing I can do to fix it, to improve the quality, or shrink the video size on the tv? That's the only place I can get the videos in english...There is nothing you can do to improve the quality of Youtube videos, well maybe if you bought a super computer and spent a lot of time and effort working on them. They pretty much are what they are. Maybe over time they will improve.Until then.. Take a peek at http://www.hulu.com/ Hulu is just about ready to start charging a monthly fee for some of it's service. http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/AheadoftheCurve/techbytes-hulu-subscription-service/story?id=10457307 Quote from: rthompson80819 on May 02, 2010, 10:09:29 PM Hulu is just about ready to start charging a monthly fee for some of it's service. Please make a short summary along with the link you gave. Place it on the Computer News Forum .That way more people will see it. YouTube is starting to add various resolutions on the videos. The thing to watch is that resolution is not being reduced by the conversion programs. DVD is pretty much an MPEG-2 format, so file sizes are large. Most of my digitized Hollywood movies from VHS tapes are over the 4.7 GB size LIMIT for single layer DVDs, so for that reason I have switched to a Blu-Ray player that does H.264. This gets me file sizes anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2 the size of the original MPEG-2 file. Quote This gets me file sizes anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2 the size of the original MPEG-2 file. Blu-rays hold about 50GB of data... Quote from: kpac on May 03, 2010, 03:34:36 PM
Yup. Lotsa H.264 movies on 1 disk. Even without blu-ray I can get 10 to 12 MPEG-4 (DivX) encoded movies on a DVDR-DL disk; especially if I use mp3 audio. Many DVD players these days costing $20-$30 can play these. Mine even has a USB socket for a pen drive, so no burning required. Quote from: kpac on May 03, 2010, 03:34:36 PM This gets me file sizes anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2 the size of the original MPEG-2 file. Sorry I wasn't clear. I take the ~8GB, 2 hour MPEG-2 file from my VHS digitizer and run it through Handbrake to produce a ~3GB H.264 file. I don't have a Blu-Ray burner, so I use another program to prep a micro-SD card for play on a Blu-Ray player. |

I'm sure there are other methodsOK, you need to enable the admin account. Go to start and type cmd. Right click on cmd (the result) and click Run as administrator (ironically). Click continue. Then type this command as it is typed (caps and everything): net users enable Administrator Then hit enter, log out and into the Admin account (the new one) and voila! There you go. -S1L3NTSN1P3R- P.S. If you are asked for a p/w I have another solution.the answer is PRETTY close to what Billrich said- start the program as an administrator (right-click and choose "Run as Administrator") Quote from: tamra747 on April 25, 2010, 07:43:59 AM "I" am the ONLY one using this 8 month old Windows 7 computer. Why its saying that I'm using my computer, but I am not the administrator?" Even though when your account was created and you were given Administrator Privileges, You must choose the role of System Administrator to run certain programs. One method to choose the role of System Administrator is: Click start, All Programs, Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and choose run as System Administrator. ( click image to enlarge. ) [recovering disk space - old attachment deleted by admin]No, but what I am trying to convey is you need to enable the admin account. Quote from: S1L3NTSN1P3R on April 30, 2010, 03:58:33 AM No, but what I am trying to convey is you need to enable the admin account. net user administrator /active:yes |

You should be able to access your hardrive through Ubuntu, back up all the files to an external hardrive or NEW partition. Now get the OS you wish to permanently run (preferably a Windows OS.) Run and install your desired OS and when installing make sure you format the hardrive that had the information that you have already backed up (most likely the C: drive.) Boom! You have a working laptop that you can log into.Tried dowloading and making Ultimate Boot CD? It has a p/w resetter. |

Solve : 0x000000c2? |
Answer» Hi, I recently was checking my computer's reliability monitor and I noticed there was one windows failure listed... this was listed under 'Failure Detail' : 0x00000c2 (0x000000b, 0x873b4800,0x00020004, 0x873b4818) I don't know what this means, and as I wasn't around at the time I don't know if I got a Blue Screen Of Death or not. It also says the OS stopped working. Three times that day the computer did not shut down properly... This was on the 19th, by the way. |

Solve : freezing, heating up, ram problems? |
Answer» I'm having all sorts of miscellaneous problems with my toshiba laptop (satellite a305), and I can't put my finger on the source. I've solved some of the problems, of which I don't now whether some were COINCIDENCES or part of the same whole. For example, I have a C: drive and a D: drive. My C: drive had a massive amount of occupied space that I knew I wasn't using. I traced the problem to a Vuze file on the C: drive that had 40GB+ of, absolutely nothing basically. Add to that the FACT that I set my Vuze downloads to drive D: (I uninstalled, erased this, and re-installed). To a lesser degree this had happened to me with this program, but it all coincides with some problems I haven't solved yet. |

Solve : Best remote computer access software? |
Answer» Hi I don't know what the "best" one is, but LogMeIn is good. I also like logmein. To add to the suggestions above, I quite like UltraVNC.I'll no doubt get shot down by others for this, but if you are running either windows Xp Pro, Vista Business,Ultimate or Win 7 Pro/ultimate. Then i WOULD use the remote desktop software that is inbuilt and therefore free. This would inevitably REQUIRE you to setup port forwarding on your router mind.I'm using windows 7 64bit. with comcast as internet provider on a gaming computer if that matters. Then why not just set up an encrypted VPN? The link that I provided is by no means the only option available, in fact there may be more software available that will work better for your purposes. I only include it as an option. TeamViewer is by far the best.Hi, There are different Desktop Remote Accessing softwares which have encryption enabled, few of them are: 1). Team Viewer. 2). VNC. 3). NTR Connect. 4). Any Place Control. 5). DameWare. All the softwares have different features and facilities available. Please check them according to your comfort and need. |
