Solve : How to restore old view in WIndows Live Movie Maker?

Answer»

I saw the Windows live movie maker. It does not use the OLD "Storyboard" MODE which makes video editing quick. I saw the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWeRXvBuXEE and it was true for AVERAGE users, not computer experts or professional video editers. I would like to have the old storyboard. If this is not possible, I will ask another question on FINDING a FREEWARE video editor.

Solve : "OESpamFilter.dat" stuck in Recycle Bin can't delete or restore it.?

Answer»

I'm not sure where this POST goes.

I need some help, I have a Windows Mail file "OESpamFilter.dat" stuck in my Recycle Bin.

I am unable to delete or restore without windows Explorer and my COMPUTER freezing.

Another PROBLEM is when I run CCleaner It can't finish cleaning because it freezes when it tries to delete OESpamFilter.dat file.

Does anyone know a way of Deleting this file or just restoring it to where it was?

ONE more QUESTION: This my sound dumb but how do I delete my old posts? I can't find a delete button.

Thanks.

It's an empty file and part of OE...why do you want to delete it ? ?
Not like it's taking up space or anything...I just want to restore it but my computer freezes up when i try.I just got OESpamFilter.dat file restored and i no longer in my Recycle Bin.    I don't know what i did to make it work but it has.  I do not need any help.

Solve : Is 64 bit really better that 32 bit??

Answer»

Is 64 bit really better that 32 bit?
Recently I gave my option that 64 bit was not WORTH the investment.
Now I am asking why I was TOLD the future is 64 bit and now is the time to join.
Is that true?
If you have the 64 bit Vista, can you still run 32 bit apps inside of it?
Do 32 bit apps run better in a 64 bit OS?
How much memory c an a 64 bit motherboard have?
I mean really, not possibly.
Will it not take at least 5 years before all the IMPORTANT programs are in 64 bit ?
Please, I gotta know right now! This should answer most of your questions: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/32-bit-and-64-bit-Windows-frequently-asked-questions

And in my opinion, if you don't need 64 bit then you don't need 64 bit. All of my systems are running 32 bit OS's. The one time I installed Vista 64 I uninstalled it a week later (too many custom written old LEGACY apps would not run - but that's unique to my situation). Just when you thought it was safe........

Yeah, and there are hardly any apps that take advantage of 64 bit.Read up on all you want...if you have the option to run 64bit...you should.
Don't worry...people will catch up.The only big advantage I've ever heard that a 64 bit OS has over a 32bit OS is that it can support 4GB+ of RAM. Quote

64 bit processors been around since 1992-93 timeframe...how many software applications have been upgraded to take advantage of 64 bit systems...less tha 100 I would bet...IMO

Uninstall one.thanks for the reply guys .. n yes i just uninstalled Avira Antivir .. and still after that m not able to open any .exe program

Actually i just tried running the  REGISTRY MECHANIC and its gives an error saying:

(unable to execute file in the temporary directory. setup aborted.
error 998: invalid access to memory location. )

and still if i run any other files it gives an error saying:

(windows cannot access the specied device, path, or file. you may not have the appropriate permissins to access the item.)

i dont REALLY get it why is it giving this error as i am the only administrator on my laptop and have not opened any other account's.

Also i think this problem has started due to my system mechanic as i jus downloaded it a month back n now its subscriptions over and now i cant even uninstall it from control panel.... has it got sumthing to do with all this  ?

ok i just read some other forums on how to uninstall system mechanic and i was also able to do so on my laptop ...

so then again i tried running .exe programs and .... still the same errors .. i dont really know what's going on .. so plz sumone just help me plz .....How long has this been happening?

Try a System Restore (Start > Accessories > System Tools) to before the date it started.k the errors just started like 3days back and the system mechanic i uninstalled a month back and i dont think the system restore will help as it just lets me go back more than 3 days so dont think dat will help but if u want i'l give it a try .... ?

isn't there any other way i cud change my registry settings without downloading anything from the internet as i cant open any files which i download online ( .exe ones)k i just did the system restore and even dat didnt help !! ... what do i do now ?System Mechanic and Registry Mechanic will both create more issues than they could ever solve...
Dump both of them immediately.

Try creating a new user account and see if you can run the files from there.

Thanks,Did you?
Quote

As for recovery partition, press F11 at HP logo.
This may or may not be an issue - but I have found that, in many cases, when any change has been made to the original disk partition(s), on detection of the change(s), the recovery software aborts the process.  In several instances, the owner has had the machine in for repairs at a local shop, and the repair shop may have altered or damaged the original disk partitions.Yes Pressed F11 at logo screen and got on there, but when I pressed up and down keys the pc shut down.I haven't had this laptop in for any repairs,so that isn't the problem. What do I highlight in the recovery partition and then what do I do?Please if time give full instructions.

Solve : Bulk delete registry keys?

Answer»

Going through trying to completely REMOVE an application can be time restricting, especially if there are 80+ registry keys left behind. Is there a way or software that will batch job this by keyword? Thanks.I am not sure how thorough it is but REVO Uninstaller works well for me.  It searches for leftover registry entries and files, gives a list of them, and lets you CHOOSE which ones you want to remove.

I have never had any trouble with it but you should be careful not to remove something IMPORTANT when you remove the leftovers.

Solve : Can't access files after restore.?

Answer»

I had to format my computer the other day but before I did so I backed up all my videos, MP3, photos etc through the Windows Vista system recovery feature onto an external hard DRIVE. I restored them all when I was done formatting but now none of them will play. I GET an error message that it can not open the file. They all worked fine before. I have tried VLC, Windows media player and Media Player Classic. When I try to open photos that were backed up it says I do not have permission but I have an administrative account on my comp. Does anyone know what the problem might be?Try taking ownership: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/ I tried using that for the whole folder but it didn't work. Then I used it on just a single mp3 file and it did work...but it won't do it for any other individual files. Am I doing something wrong? The subinacl tool is a powerful utility that will allow you to change ownership of all files and registry keys at once (it runs automatically and takes a few minutes to complete). I've used it several times without issue. Still, I suggest you create a disc image first.

Download: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=E8BA3E56-D8FE-4A91-93CF-ED6985E3927B&displaylang=en

Usage: http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-10878_11-1051004.htmlI installed SubInAcl but when I try to run it the command line POPS up for a second then closesright-click on command prompt and run as administratorHuh this is weird. I guess the TakeOwnership did work but only if I copy the file out of its original folder to a new one. At least I can get them all now. Thanks for the help!Sure.

Solve : PNY flash drives, are they compatable with readyboost?

Hello.

I do have some usb flash drives, but they are not compatable, and are not PNYAccording to MS any flash drive should work ....readyboost will scan the drive first and let you know...

According to MS any flash drive should work ....readyboost will scan the drive first and let you know...
More Info...

thanks patio

I bought a 2gb usb flash drive a few months ago (not this PNY make) and that did not work, it said something like "this device is not compatable"  or something like that.

As you say readyboost will scan the drive first and let you know, so according to MS any flash drive should work, as long as its at least 2gb or more.

So is this not a contradiction in terms because it will scan and let you know, so there for any flash drive will not work, if it is going to let you know if it will work.

Anyway patio, slight mistake i made, i did not click on what features this flash drive has (HOW  STUPID OF ME) and it turns out this does work with readyboost
Probably because i had been looking at others, of a less well known make, that did not GIVE you this information

http://www3.pny.com/8GB-New-Attacheacute-USB-20-Flash-Drive-P2665C53.aspx?UserID=20108378&SessionID=6sJ67sPmUohtRJLmX2P6

I do need one and thought i might as well get one that works with readyboost as well, in case i might need to use this readyboost one day..

Cheers patio
No Problem and Welcome Aboard !

The ones you want to stay away from are the U3 drives...these are pre-loaded with propietary software DESIGNED to assist runng applications straight from the flash drive without installing it.

Good Luck. Quote
The ones you want to stay away from are the U3 drives...

Nice tip patio, i ll make a NOTE of that....................thanksLast time I looked at flash drives in any local stores, I saw some labeled as "Optimized for ReadyBoost" or words to the effect.  I don't know how significant this is; just thought I'd mention it.

I tried using a 2GB flash drive with my Compaq laptop for awhile but abandoned the idea due to undesirable behavior from my computer.  One of the problems was that, if the computer went into Sleep mode, ReadyBoost was not ready when the computer was awakened and the only ready to get it working again was to restart.  Besides that, I could not see a noticeable benefit from using the flash drive for ReadyBoost. I later increased RAM from 1GB to 2GB in the computer.  Good point Soybean...
With RAM prices where they are right now readyboost is actually a performance trade off....
I didn't find it that much of an improvement when i tested it with an 8G stick myself.I wrote a small test program and found that my old flash drive (256MB) could hardly maintain a 1.5MB-2MB transfer rate, whereas my newer SanDisk of the same size managed over 25MB/s, and my 8GB sticks each had a read rate of about 80MB/s, sometimes bursting to 100MB/s.

Solve : System Recovery killed my computer?

Answer»

KillDisk should be fine...Ok, I ran KillDisk and erased the drive with the one pass zeros method.  Then I ran the Compaq SYSTEM Recovery discs again, and guess what?  It worked!!!!!

Thank you very MUCH, Patio.  I am in your debt.Excellent news smoser...feel free to stop by anytime...Hello again Patio.  I'm taking you up on your invitation to stop by anytime.  The system is still having problems.  Here's what's happening now when I power on:

The Compaq splash screen appears.  Windows Vista loads, then it starts running a program called HP Flex Build 2.0 (cPC_DASH 2.0014).  A DOS window opens labelled x:/windows/system32/cmd.exe - startnet.com.  Inside that window it says "Build Partition", then everything blanks out and all that's displayed is a white screen with two file folder icons and DOCUMENTS moving from one to the other.  After watching it do this for over 24 hours, I figured out that the system is stuck.

When I alt-tab to see what programs are running, it shows one windows icon labelled "PROGRESSO" and two DOS icons labelled "ADMINISTRATOR: x:/windows/system32/cmd.exe".  The only way to interrupt the program at this point is with a hard reboot.  I've done this a number of times and it just goes through the same process as above over again.

Any ideas?

Solve : Anyone have a problem coming out of hibernation with W7? On a macbook pro??

Answer»

Anyone know why I WOULD be having PROBLEMS coming out of Sleep and Hibernate sometimes with my MBP running Windows 7 RC?  It also seems very random when it happens.  There is no particular time when it happens, and it doesnt happen every single time.

[Saving space, attachment deleted by admin]I've always said that Sleep & Hibernation are problematical on many systems (not all). You are much better off setting the power options to power down the hd & display after a defined period of time. The only thing that makes me mad is I ran XP for atleast 2 years on it and never had any problems with sleep/hibernate, why would it be different with W7?  Could it be the hardware on my MBP is a little dated compared it the recommended specs.
No IDEA. MS actually never fully perfected Sleep or Hibernation and the problems show up at different times on different systems for different people. However, using the METHOD I suggested above is actually "better" for your system in that it uses fewer resources than sleep or hibernation - and it's problem free Agreed.I had similar ISSUE with hibernation with Windows 7 RC. On a thoshiba laptop, it would come abck on, but then freeze in the next min or so.

i changed the resolution wrong
Why won't you change it back, or use system restore?
I'm not sure, though, it's a resolution problem, since the other account works fine.i cant change it back there are the black and white stripes i cant see or read anything .. and im not sure if u can use system restore if ur not the admin which im not on the other accountAs I said, I'm not sure, if this is resolution problem, since the other account works fine. Your profile may be corrupted.
In either case, you'll need to ask the other account owner to run system restore for you.
If that doesn't help, you'll need to create fresh profile to see, if the problem exist there.
Again, you'll need admin account to do that.the other account is mine as wellwell im pretty sure its the resolution because it happened exactly after i changed the resolution Quote

Solve : Adobe Acrobat Can Read and Display pdf Documants Correctly But Can't Print?

Answer»

For some reason I can no longer properly print the pdf DOCUMENTS I have stored on my VISTA MACHINE. I have an Epson 1800R Printer installed on my Vista system. It is networked and I share the printer. When I open a pfd file on my Vista system it displays properly. I can read the document without a problem. When I attempt to print any of the pages it comes out as gibberish. I believe that for some reason the fonts have become corrupted, but do not know for sure. I have reloaded my Acrobat 8.0 and downloaded the latest Adobe READER 9.0. They both display properly but have the same result when I attempt to print.
If I attempt to print the same files from one of my networked computers on the same printer it works properly. This LEADS me to believe that I have corrupted the fonts on the Vista System. I have no way of knowing what fonts I must reinstall to properly print the pdf files I have stored. I would assume that If I can display the document properly it should have some way of loading the correct fonts. What can I do to fix this problem? I appreciate your assistance.

Regards GlennReinstall the printer driver on the machine you're having problems with..

Solve : What security programs needed??

Answer»

Hi -
In a recent answer to a question, Allan SAID "Run a full scan of your system with BOTH your anti virus utility AND either MalwareBytes or Super AntiSpyware."  Does this MEAN that you don't need both MalwareBytes and Super AntiSpyware?  I am running both and also avast Antivirus.  Can I eliminate MalwareByte and still have the protection I need?   Thanks    Bob  Are you running both resident or just scanning? You only need one of them running resident, but it's okay to scan with both (no two utilities pick up exactly the same thing). Personally, I only run my AV resident and scan with MB or SAS once every week or two.Allan -
Thanks for the reply.  I have avast Antivirus, SuperAntiSpyware, and Malwarebytes all INSTALLED at all times.  I have plenty of room so space is not a problem.  I just want to be sure that one is not interfearing with the other.  I guess I will LEAVE THINGS as they are.  I have not had any problems in a long time.  When something is working don't fix it, just be thankful that there is no problem.  Have a good day.     BobThere is a difference between INSTALLED and RUNNING (or resident). Avira is resident (always running - you see it in the task bar) - that's good. But you don't need both SAS & MB resident - just pick one (or neither - and scan with them on a regular basis).Allan -
Thanks again.  I will remove Malwarebytes.    BobJust so you know, unless you payed for Malwarebytes you don't have to worry about resident scanning. And there's no reason to uninstall it - just don't keep it running resident.I believe resident scanning is only available in paid MBAM....I believe you're right.

Solve : Computer CMOS battery... odd?

Answer»

hi, I am having a problem figuring out the next step in troubleshooting my computer. While watching TV the thing starts doing the long loud "there's something wrong" beep. I go up and turn it off and CHECK it out and start it back up. Well, at first it starts, but there's no vid and it just cycles itself before doing ANYTHING. So i undo all the power cables, check the power config, check the PCI-E slots, Check/change/clean all the ram and so forth and so on. So i start it back up with the same problem. So i unhook all other things that it can start normally without. Again, same problem, but the HDD is starting and spinning as normal.

Now i'm thinking it may be a power issue so i plug everything back in and ensure all power cables are routed CORRECTLY and see if everything is good and the HDD is still spinning up, and the drives are opening/closing perfectly. It's no longer cycling, but it is starting up with no bios beep or anything. just power on with no vid while on the 115 PS setting. On the 230 setting it's still cycling power.

So i get deeper and decide to check out the CMOS battery. I take it out and wait for about 5-10 sec and put it back in. Success! it works and i fix all the regular time/date settings and it works fine. So my first instinct is that the battery is going bad and i replace it with a known good one. Now with the new battery in it still does not work correctly. Everytime i want to start it up i have to remove-wait-and reinstall the CMOS battery to get a successful boot-up.

I'm thinking of either replacing the PS or the Mobo. Any help into this would be greatly appreciated. I've asked a few friends with degrees in computer science and they are as stumped as i am.

Thank you.1. What is the make/model of the computer?

2. How old is the computer?

3. Are you using a video card or onboard video?

Quote from "Upgrading and Repairing PC's"

"If you plug the power supply into a 120 v outlet while it's set in the 230/240 setting, no damage will result, but the supply won't operate properly until you correct the setting. On the other hand, if you plug in to a 240 v outlet and have the switch set for 120 v, you can cause damage".

I'm not an expert on power supplies but I wouldn't argue with Scott Mueller    I'd leave the setting on 115 if you intend to use a 110/115 volt receptacle.Sounds like there is a bad solder JOINT somewhere on that board or a capacitor failing ...it starts ACTING up as the board heats up.
This can be hard to track down...It's a self built computer. Currently using the Asus P5K-V mobo. First built it a few years ago, but has been upgraded along the way. I am using a Nvidia 8800GTX ultra for video.

Got to the top tier of Asus Tech support and they think it's something to do with the ram on the mobo itself. I'm using Corsair 2x4gb of ram and they said that's a accepted ram for the board so no problems there. Also tried my old ram with no joy.

Good thing for Asus' good support so i'm RMA'ing the board to ASUS for free, but i decided to go and just get a new mobo anyway and use this one on a new project PC from old parts from this one.

Thank you for the help. New mobo should be here today. I will be back on here if it doesn't work still. There's also the odd possibility you have a bad stik of RAM...
DLoad MemTest and follow the info on creating a bootable CD...
Boot to the CD and let the tests run at least 2 hours...they are repetitive so ignore that.
Any errors at all and you have a bad stik(s) of RAM...I already checked the RAM, all the sticks are in good working order.

Changed the mobo and it works perfectly. The old mobo is going in for repairs.

Thank you for the advice.

Solve : C: drive is almost full how to make room??

Answer»

Hello,

My C: drive is almost full, and I think it's starting to cause problems with running programs.

So, how do I move or remove already installed programs (on C:) to free up space.  And, what can I do with programs that don't allow me to choose where to install them?  I have other larger drives, so room isn't an issue, but I've found that a lot of programs I install (GoogleEarth, MS products, etc.) automatically choose the C: drive.

I have 48Gig C: with only 4Gig remaining.

Thanks,
dhI would disk clean up and then look for stuff you can get rid of....

this is a good tool to find where your data is on a drive.

I don't recall running into any program (especially MS products) that does not offer an option on where to install it. You have to take your time during the installation and read each SCREEN and make your choices. You also have to choose "custom" as opposed to "typical" or "express" on some installation routines. As far as uninstalling programs is concerned, just use ADD/REMOVE in control panel.

Also, limit the space allotted to System Restore and Temporary INTERNET Files Folder (or move the LATTER to another drive). With the price of HDD storage where it is if it were me i'd get a new drive of 250/500G for around 50Bucks and "clone" the old one to it.

You could then wipe the 50G and use it for extra storage.

The whole process takes 45 min. to an hour... Quote from: Spoiler on October 16, 2009, 07:12:07 AM

Thanks for the help, but I've already done that... also, COPIED some folders (zip 7, etc.) from C: to one of the other drives...and have used the ADD/Remove option, but the remaining programs I want to keep and use.  Is there a good way (any way) that I can MOVE them to one of the larger drives?  Would they still work?

I should note that this is a laptop, and already has 3 drives installed, which C: is the smallest, the other two are over 200 gig each.

I'll check out the "tool" link.

This may be some of the problem, I was told before to just choose typical or express when installing a program.

Also, limit the space allotted to System Restore and Temporary Internet Files Folder (or move the latter to another drive).

How do I do that?  Thanks
1) You can NOT just move most programs. They need to be uninstalled and reinstalled.
2) You can uninstall the MS programs and reinstall them where you want using CUSTOM options and still retain the data
3) You can move My Documents to another partition (just right-click, drag, move the folder)
4) System Properties - System Protection - System Restore - right-click on each drive and define the allotted space
5) Internet Options - Browsing History Settings - Move Folder Quote from: patio on October 16, 2009, 07:35:49 AM

Hmmm.... well, I do know there are at least 2 separate HD's in the 2 bays.  I BOUGHT this used, and the fellow already had a C: and another drive (not counting the DVD), I asked if he would add another drive which he did.  So under "computer" it shows C: (local disk), D: (dvd) E:(games) and G:(data).  Would they be listed as such if there was a partition on one?

dhPartitions will show with drive letters...
You have 2 "physical" hard drives and and optical drive...
One of the HDD's has 2 partitions.

This can be determined in Disk Management...the graph will be self-explanatory.

Solve : My computer keeps shutting down by itself. Help!!! Please.?

Answer»

Today, I have been using my computer and is been shutting down by itself, always one hour after I turn it on. Help me, what can I do to solve the problem.

Note: My computer is a Laptop and I'm using Windows Vista. How is the COOLING?

If you download Speed Fan, can you please tell us the temperature(s) it lists.

Has his always happened?
Does it happen when you do something specific (like play a game) or does it happen in general? Here's the information you asked me....

Speed fan says:
Core 0: 0. 75
Core 1: 1.76

The LOWEST I notice:
Core 0: 0. 71
Core 1: 1.71

The highest I notice:
Core 0: 0. 76
Core 1: 1.76Well there's your problem!

Your computer is shutting down automatically to prevent itself from being fried...I even have a fan directly to it. What else can I do to solve it?

Note: How should a normal computer's temperature be?If you could get a better fan it would probably do better but it's a laptop so that might be hard.

Can you make sure the laptop is clean (free of dust that may be OBSTRUCTING the air flow)

What type of surface are you working on?I'm using a wooden table, like the once you use to eat in front of the TV. Also, I putting the fan (that's on the back left side of the computer), completely open and free of anything that might OBSTRUCT the flow of air. I will check right now for any dust.By fan do you mean something like this:

No this type:http://www.sz-wholesale.com/uploadFiles/Stand_Fan_600.jpgAh, I checked for dust and is totally clean. But it's still higher than Core 0: 74C and Core 1: 1.74C

Question:
Does the amount of open windows does anything to the temperature of the computer?I would suggest putting it at the side of the computer.

For my laptop, I use something like this:

It cools my laptop down significantly.
If you don't know what that is, this google search should help:

They can get a little expensive but it's worth it.

As for your question, basically the more the processor has to work the more heat it will give off. I wouldn't say 'how many windows open' but 'how many Large Programs or Games are open'.

**Large programs can include Image Processing software (such as Corel Draw or Macromedia Flash). So you get an idea of my computer use...

Right now I have:
1. 2 browsers open (and in serious use).
2. A game call "Wonderland Online", where I have 4 characters (4 windows of the game's program) at play at the same time.
3. Running a backup (I do that once a week).
4. Running the antivirus ( I do that daily).

Note: I'm checking your suggestion and I think I'll get one between today or at the latest by Saturday NEXT week.I think the game (and maybe the browser) is contributing the most to your heat-up.

Whilst backing up, I think it would go faster and be a lot less strainious on your Processor, thus giving off less heat, if you close the browser and the game. You are right in so many ways and the worst is that I know it...

I've another laptop that I could use (at the same time as this) so that none have excessive work on their Processor. The only problem is that I keep having trouble when I try to connect to the Net with the other one.  Quote

Solve : Losing passwords.?

Answer»

It seems that when I run CCleaner, all the forums ETC, on which I have preset passwords to open automatically, have had the username and passwords removed and I have to reset them using the Username and Password again.
Has happened twice since I started using Ccleaner again.
Any clues please?
Vista Home Premium, 2. processor, 2 gig RAM, SP2
Thanks. You have to set it to delete or not delete items of your choosing. If you do not want cookies deleted, don't delete them. Thanks mate.
Cheers
HenrySure Just to clarify cCleaner will delete all history from your computer including usernames and passwords. I use Norton anti-virus which remembers all my passwords and usernames so they get automatically re-issued when I join a site.
Mozilla Firefox now has a similar option.
Stating don't delete cookies is a little wrong to be fair.
Make a choice you can write all your user names and passwords down or Firefox and/or Norton or some other programme will remember them under a master password.
I have so many passwords that I COULD not hope to remember so I find this way so much easier. Hope that helps  You missed the WHOLE point...CCleaner can be set to SELECTIVELY save cookies/passwords that are needed/wanted.
Therefore it will NOT get RID of the ones you wish to keep...
You just have to tell it which ones... Quote from: patio on October 16, 2009, 03:05:57 PM

Solve : BSOD in Vista shortly after first startup of the day?

Answer»

Hi Everyone,
I am having a reoccurring problem with windows vista x64 that results in a BSOD about 10-20 minutes after starting. It usually only happens after i turn it on, but sometimes it happens twice. It is on my laptop which is running: Quote

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7500 2.20GHz
Memory (RAM) 4.00 GB
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
I have also run BlueScreenView, because that seems to be the FIRST step recommended. As you can see, it has been happening for a while.

I did not see the BSOD that happened earlier today, but maybe I missed it.
Any help would be awesome, as it is starting to get annoying.
Thank You!!
You've basically GOT two types of errors here:  0x0000009f   and  0x000000d1, involving THREE separate drivers..

For 0x0000009f, you can do a "Start Up Repair" using your Vista installation disc, which will replace ntoskrnl.exe, the file associated with the error.
Insert your Vista installation disc, restart the computer and boot from the disc.  Select "Repair Your Computer", keep going until you come to the option that lets you select "Start Up Repair" and select it. When it finishes, reboot and see if it keeps the error from occurring again..

Next, GO here:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18011&lang=eng

and download the Intel Turbo Memory Driver (English) and install it, which will replace iaNvStor.sys, the driver associated with  the 0x000000d1
error.

For the 0x0000009f error associated with the nvlddmkm.sys... Reinstall the driver for your NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT...  Click Start, type Device Manager, into the search box.  When it appears in the menu, click on it to open Device Manager...  Next to where is says, "display adapters" click on the "+" sign, and right click on the NVIDIA item in the submen, then click on "uninstall"... Next restart the computer...  If Windows doesn't automatically reload the driver, go back into device manager, and click on "update" instead of "uninstall" and see if Windows will fetch the latest driver for you graphics card...If not, you'll just have to go to the NVIDIA website and download it..

If these suggestions don't help, try disabling your anti-virus program for a while to see if that is the cause...

hope this helps...

It may be also RAM issue.Thank you EEVIAC and Broni.

Solve : DVD/CDs are not being detected.?

Answer»

Vista Premium 32, coire 2 DUO 3 ghz CPU on a gigabyte board. DVD/CDs are not being detected in either of my roms. WINDOWS sees the roms, but inserting discs does nothing. Help? How long has this been happening?

Shut down the computer and open the case....Disconnect the power from one of the CD/DVD drives, turn the computer back on and try the some discs in the drive that still has power and SEE if Windows recognizes the discs...One of these may help:
1. Uninstall the drive through Device Manager.
Restart computer. The drive will be automatically reinstalled.
or...
2. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
Restart computer.
or...
3. Download, and run Restore Missing CD Drive patch
Double click on cdgone.zip to unzip it.
Right click on cdgone.reg, click Merge.
Accept registry merge.
Restart computer.
or...
4. Go to Device Manager, click a "+" sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
You'll see two items:
- ATA Channel0 (or Primary Channel)
- ATA Channel1 (or Secondary Channel)
Right click on each of them, and click Uninstall. Confirm.
Restart Windows. They'll be automatically reinstalled.

Solve : Vista Windows explorer FUBAR?

Answer»

Ok, so I woke up and started watching the news like I usually do, and since I had time, I figured I'd play a quick game before work. So I start up Monkey Island and I get this error about my processor, then another error about explorer is having a critical error and I'm given two options, restart explorer (not restart the system) or check for solution (no abort button? Thanks microsoft!) Thing is, My processor is fine. On my other partition, XP still runs smooth as butter and intensive programs run without a hitch. Even in Vista, I'm able to run firefox just fine, just not anything that calls up an explorer process (i.e.: everything else). I'm at work right now, but I'll post the error number if I find them when I get home. Anyone have a similar problem? Is it system restore time?Post the error messages entirely...including the gibberish.
Since it's an intermittent issue i suspect the PSU.Just got back home. Here are the details on the error message:

Ok, I just saw it try the same thing on adobe and skype system tray agents. It seems that what is happening is that It's automatically shutting down every process in my task manager. Seem virus like but scanning from the other partition reveals nothing with AVG. Oddly, firefox seems immune. "I checked system restore, assuming they made a restore point every week automatically, but no, I have no restore points, so that option is out. This really stinks. I hope I don't have to do a full reinstall, as that would be a real pain backing up all my saves (this is a gaming machine) and such and reinstalling everything I got on this partition. one more thing to add: registry mechanic reports 2 unrepairable processes:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{300165D-44B1-4C7A-AD58-4A9E7200E2E8}\LOCALSERVER32

and

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{300165D-44B1-4C7A-AD58-4A9E7200E2E8}\LOCALSERVER32

actually, those are the same, but it's showing up as two separate high priority problems. it refuses to repair them.BumpWhat's the BSOD error message ? ?There is no BSOD. Explorer just keeps resetting, not the computer, just windows explorer and pother programs. You know, I don't think anybody can help me after three days and only GETTING two sentences back after providing all that info. I'll just reformat and reinlstall despite the pain in the *censored* factor of that.If it will BOOT to Windows then go to Start/Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit Enter...have your XP CD handy as it will ask for it.
When finished remove the CD and re-boot.

If it won't boot to Windows then boot to the Windows and choose the first "R" option to load the Recovery Console and run the same command from there...
Again when it's done remove the CD and re-boot.

As far as the lack of replies i'll make arrangements to have your Refund check sent out straightaway....Using registry FIXING programs is usually very bad idea.Peace, Patio. I didn't mean to sound snarky, I just meant that it seemed like it was time to reformat and re-install. Which is what I did and everything seems back to normal, although I wish I knew what caused that to I don't repeat it. Thanks for trying to help.Glad that worked out for you...and THANX for letting us know.

Solve : CCleaner Registry Cleaner question?

Answer»

When i was using CCleaner to check for errors in my registry, it took forever to get to the bottom of the list... I'm wondering what to do with the errors/unused files/etc that ccleaner finds. Should I fix them or keep them there? I'm keeping them there for now but i want to know what to do...
Please answer me Back up the registry, as CCleaner prompts you to do if you click on Fix, and then go ahead and let CCleaner remove all items found. The safest way is to backup your registry..
The ccleaner prompt that before you you do
a certain action.. Using registry cleaners is not recommended at all.
In most cases, you won't gain anything, but you can mess up your computer well.Having a program scan the registry for "CLUTTER" is analogous to having a program search your disks for clutter. In this case the file searching program would delete all files not present in any INI files on-disk. Quote from: Broni on October 07, 2009, 09:03:19 PM

Yes, but, as stated over and over in numerous computing forums, CCleaner is probably the safest registry cleaner available.  And, since the OP mentions a very long list of items found, I know darn well I'd get rid of it all and I'd feel quite confident about using CCleaner for this.  I can only repeat. Cleaning registry, doesn't bring any VISIBLE gains, but may be and it is dangerous.I have to disagree; in cases where a great many unneeded registry entries are found - and again, by a known-to-be safe, non-agressive cleaner - I believe some noticeable improvement may occur.  At least, that's been my experience.Let me re-phrase.
Any experienced computer user can play with registry 24/7.
Any not too savvy computer user, should leave registry alone.
IMHO.It's confusing me, half say use it, half say don't. I am going to set up a poll and the option with more votes I will use
EDIT: I backed up my registry and cleaned it :/ I HOPE nothing BAD happens....
Edit: I still want to make sure this is safe so i made a system restore point to like yesterday so if something bad happens i can restore... So please vote in the poll so I can be really sure Thanks for your time anyone who helped so far...There are no "safe" registry cleaners. If you want to use one then you should look at each entry and if you don't know what it is, don't delete it. Since most users do now know what the entries are............ well, I think you know where I'm headed. Again, there are NO safe registry cleaners.

And why would I vote in a poll? Quote
And why would I vote in a poll?
Because you're over 18.

While I agree that registry cleaners are usually trouble, CCleaner would be my first choice if I had to use one.Thank you GUYS for your help I don't really need more replies... Thanks to all that helped and that would have helped if i waited a few more days... Well... can someone lock this thread

Solve : Win Vista OS freezes?

Answer»

Help! Running Win Vista on a 5 yr old acer extensa. OS freezes repeatedly. Virus scan negative, drivers up to date, PLENTY of ram left, any ideas?1) What is new or different since the last time everything worked properly (ie, new hw, new SW, virus, error, etc)?

2) What did you use to scan for malware?

3) Open msconfig and on the General tab choose "selective startup" (uncheck all three items) and reboot. Does the problem still occur? If not, start adding items back to msconfig ONE or two at a time, rebooting after each change, until the problem reappears and you'll have identified the offending process. This is clearly a time consuming procedure, but it is the best way to determine if some process loading with the system is the cause of your problem.

After you've isolated the cause, do not use msconfig to permanently disable the process. Instead, if it is a service GO to START - RUN and type: services.msc (then press enter) and disable the service OR, if it a program, you can download & run a simple app such as Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel (http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml) to enable, disable, or otherwise manage startup programs.

Solve : How to get my OS to showup in system repair on my windows 7 boot disk?

Answer»

How to get my OS to showup in system repair on my windows 7 boot disk.
Can anyone help me do this, I have two harddrives and neither are showing up, I need to repair my MBR because I'm getting the error BOOT DISK FAILURE at startup.
If anyone has any ideas on how I can get them to show up, help would be greatly obliged.
Thanks a lot!

- John

Do the hard drives show up in BIOS?Yes they show up under the Hard disk drive boot in bios.
i have 2 one of which is a few weeks oldHow were these WIN 7 DVD's created ? ?
Is it the BETA or the RC ? ?Its the OEM version burned with power iso. There is no OEM version out yet...unless you know someone that works for Microsoft...Not out legally...Then you'll need to find someone with a legit copy of the RC .iso...otherwise you're stuck.i have a copy of the legit copy of the rc alsoThen try burning a new DVD using PowerISO again.
Something's wrong.

It should be bootable.ok on my old drive i just installed windows xp now i should beable to fix the mbr, but will it fix it for both hard drives? or just my old one and not the new hard drive with windows 7 on it

the problems not the bootablility the problem is when i boot the hard drive i need to fix will not showup under repair
neither of them showupNo.
The XP MBR fix will do nothing for the Win7 drive.
Provide more details on these drives...how you initially set them up and what led to the 7 drive being un-bootable...Ok, originally all i had was one drive a western digital caviar green, this had windows 7 beta on it which was RUNNING fine, I was experimenting with some games and needed to dual boot with xp, this also WORKED fine. I needed more space so I bought a new samsung spinpoint (both hard drives are 1 TB) hard drive, since i had the old win 7 and xp dual booted i had to add the new windows 7 to my dual boot menu, when i originally dual booted and the second time, i used Easy BCD
Since i was done with the old windows 7 i needed to erase the old hard drive.
I used KillDisk to erase it, everything went fine to my knowledge and now I believe I cannot boot because all the "Boot information" was on my old hard drive which i erased.
A few people have been helping me in the chat, but we haven't had much success.
I currently have both hard drives plugged in win 7 (unbootable) installed on the new one and win xp is installed on the old hard drive.
I hope this helps.

Thanks for your help!

I just reformatted thanks for all the help. I got everything off my hard drive i needed.
Thanks

Solve : Multiple Boot Disks...?

Answer»

I cloned my VISTA drive to another hard disk in my computer as a bootable backup to cover myself when I upgrade to Windows 7 shortly.

However, it's been a while since I messed with multiple boots, so I can't remember if there's a problem having TWO identical disks in the system, and both being boot disks.  (Actually, the new one on the SATA secondary connection.)

There doesn't seem to be a problem after cloning and rebooting to my original drive C, but I haven't switched and tried to boot the new disk YET.

I'm thinking it's not a problem, but would like to know the general guidelines, RATHER than running into a new problem firsthand.

More info on what these drives are...SATA/IDE and how you installed the OS's.
Generally you can have up to 4 bootable HDD's without any conflict...in some cases more...

I asked him/her what browser she/he was using not the email client  If they are using an email client, why would you ask what browser they are using?

We still don't know whether she uses and email client for POP3 mail or whether she uses a web browser for webmail. Quote from: soybean on August 12, 2009, 11:22:09 AM

Solve : I am computer illiterate and need help, my computer is loading very slow?

Answer»

I am very computer ILLITERATE and need help. I tried reading some similar blogs but I am not sure if my computer have the same figures and software as the others. I need help, when I TRY to watch video's on youtube and things like that on my computer, it takes so long to load, it plays for about one minute then the load signal comes on again. How do I get rid of this program, so that I will be able to watch video's on my computer.1.First you check your pc for any viruses using updated antivirus software.
2.Disable any unnecessary startup programs that load at startup time.
3.Clean your pc by deleting unnecessary temporary files, cookies etc. and uninstall any unnecessary softwares installed in it.
4. Defragment your windows drive.

This will improve your pc performance and reduces the booting time
How do you get rid of WHAT program?

1) Run a full scan of your system with BOTH your anti virus utility AND either MalwareBytes or Super AntiSpyware

2) Did this just start or has it always been this way?

3) Please post your system specsFirst, check your computer for viruses and spy-ware. I USE AVG  and Malwarebytes  (both free and low on cpu usage). After that, open "My Computer" and right-click on "C:" drive, click on properties. After that click on the "Disk cleanup" button. After that, click on the "Tools" tab and you'll see "error-check" and "system defrag". First do an error check (it will probably prompt you to RESTART your system to do a scan). After that do a system defrag (This program ultimately quickens the computers RESPONSES). After that open the "run" program by holding the "Windows" key and then press "R" key. Type in "msconfig" and hit the "enter" button. click on the "startup" tab and un-tick the programs you don't want loaded when you log on to the computer (This will ultimately allow the startup time and the speed of the computer to dramatically go up). If you're still not satisfied, I recommend a program that does all of this plus much more. It's called Tuneup Utilities 2009 ", The only thing is, it's not free. Good Luck!!!

Solve : Back to Factory Settings?

Answer»

Heres the story:

I have a compaq presario notebook CQ40 310 AU, AMD turion x2 bla bla bla that comes with windows vista starter pack.

Then my windows update started to fail and I cant seem to install an update, even though I have more than enough space on my drive C

and then lately I am being pestered with errors about dll being not found whenever I open the windows explorer or any other folders.

The built in webcam also does not work and will instantly send an error about dll again when opened.

So, Ive restored my pc to its factory settings using the blue recovery dvd, windows vista starter

and now tha dll errors are gone and my DRIVERS are gone with it

now everything is in a STATE of a mess!!

Ive tried going here to install some drivers

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3873043&

but still, something is missing, I should have had a backup.

the scroll part of my touchpad does not work, my drive D is not listed

Now I have not yet restarted after installing the drivers. I Think that I could deal with this tommorow, its kinda late here. I just wanna know If I messed up big time or if it is possible to fix these problems.

any suggestions? SOLUTIONS? .. any help would do. Use the Driver CD that shipped with the machine.

Solve : 5.1 channel Surround sound input using 3x 3.5mm coaxial inputs‏?

Answer»

Having a few problems here setting up what i want.

Ok so what i have is a ASUS P5Q SE/R Motherboard in my windows Vista computer. What i need to do is configure my input playback to play through my computers 5.1 surrond sound speakers.

Basically i need to turn http://img377.imageshack.us/img377/2727/thisintothis.jpg

Im trying to input 5.1 surround sound using 3x COAXIAL 3.5mm inputs (it should be possible) in much the same way as they are being outputed.
what i need to do is seperate the input channels from the 3x coaxial 3.5mm and send them to the appropriate 5.1 surround sound channels.

xbox is working all 5.1 channels are going to the computer and are PLAYING back but not on the correct channel. the link on the first post gives a pretty good idea of i what i mean, it is very hard to explain, ILL draw another picture if this still doesnt make any sense

I shouldn't need any ADDITIONAL hardware, just a bit of software to redirect those audio channels is all i need
Here is the setup so you get a better idea of what im after

Solve : boot manager missing unable to read windows - no operating system?

Answer»

I hope you can help. To try to cut a long STORY short, pc was working fine, then started to crash (like flicking a switch). Notices appeared (blue screen) indicating lack of memory. I tried to reinstall Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit - but the installation kept crashing. Before this I backed up my work and cleared everything from the hard drive. After REPEATED attempts DOS black screen notices then appeared saying that the boot manager is missing.

I have installed some new ram. 2GB RAM only (just for now) as I am using an OEM version of Windows. Still having this problem. Not getting the 'press any key' prompt to set up Windows. MANAGING to get into the default BIOS. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks. Managed to get the computer to read my CD/DVD drive by going into the BIOS on booting up (by pressing the Delete key [DEL]). Went through the BIOS menu using the arrow keys on my keyboard, selected the Boot Device Facility and prioritized the CD/DVD I wished to use. Then I made sure that I was satisfied with the changes I had made. Save and Exit. Upon restart the computer automatically read my Windows CD. It is in the PROCESS now of reinstalling Windows. Touch wood.

Just a quick note: Once Windows has been successfully installed I will have to change the booting up sequence to the HARD drive or else I will always be booting up from the CD.1/2 way home...
