Solve : acer w7 - event 7036?

Answer»

Hi guys,
I have an Acer Aspire 5920g running on w7 ultimate 32 b intel (r) core(TM)2 duo CPU - T7300
it keeps FREEZING up randomly.
I have noticed a pattern: event 7036
Can you please help me understand how to solve the problem?
Why does it freeze up? Can I fix it?
Each freeze up is 15 to 25 secs long :/
please reply in very very basic language as i am no expert.
thanks
g.1) What is new or different since the last TIME everything worked properly (ie, new hw, new SW, virus, error, etc)?

2) Does it freeze in safe mode?

3) Have you RUN full scans with BOTH your anti virus app and with MalwareBytes? If not, please do so now.Problem began to appear shortly after purchase of pc, though it was rarer(like once every 2-4 days... Then progressively became more frequent to the actual  2-4 times daily). I was using the preinstalled factory Vista and since it was in its early days and it was being criticised left right and centre i assumed it was an os prob. Did not use this pc for about a year and then i had a friend install the actual w7.
Problem is still there. It was there from start really though, despite new os, it seems to be getting worse...
I have run on many occasion malwarebytes' progr. And antiv. Both in safe mode with no findings whatsoever...
I have never used safe mode long enough totest it. I normally scan and leave. Do you think i should use the pc in safe mode for a longer time? Can i use it to watch video, surf net etc...? What antivirus? The event 7036 shows an article pertaining to McAfee.

Solve : Problems with my ethernet connection between my computer and my wireless modem?

Answer»

I have recently had to replace my wirelss modem, due to an electrical storm. The trouble is now the new modem won't recognise that there is an ETHERNET connection between my computer and the new  WIRELESS modem/router. The CABLE is physically connected tot he modem but the port light is not on. There is nothing wrong with cable as I have plugged in my old non-wireless modem via this cable and it has worked (I am connected to the internet now using this cable and old modem). When I trouble shoot the connection problem it is saying the ethernet cable is unplugged when it is not. Changing the cable does not solve the problem, when I took the modem back to the shop they tried it on their computer and it connected and worked no problem.
I gave tried everything from system restore to a date pre-electrical storm, updating drivers, resetting and manually reconfigering the modem. On a couple of occasions I have been able to get a signal (the port light is on and I can connect to the internet) only to return to my computer and find that the port light has gone off and there is no longer a connection. I thought that maybe the modem was not compatible with my computer for some reason and so changed the brand (Netgear to D-Link) still no joy. HELP!!!!  I want to make sure i understand your issue correctly. So due to electrical damage you had to replace your modem. isp provided and dsl is that right? I am not sure what you are referring to in terms of the hardware as you seem to be using modem and router interchangeably. I know you have a modem but what is the reference to "router"? Sometimes DSL modems have a built in router. In my case i have an ISP modem but i have a separate router that is capable of both wireless and cable (Ethernet) CONNECTIONS. You keep referring to a "wireless connection but then appear to be saying that you are actually connected from the computer to the "modem via a cable. So where does the issue of "wireless " come into it? If you have a modem/router capable of wireless transmission and a computer that has a built in wi-fi (such as most MODERN laptops) then a search for an available network should find your modem/router. If the computer doesn't have a built in wi-fi receiver you will need a wireless dongle to receive the modem/router signal. If the latter is the case you will need to have installed software for the dongle. So come back to us and elaborate on what it is you actually have and what it is you are trying to achieve re your connection to your ISP. truenorth

Solve : WindowsWcpOtherFailure3 how can this be corrected??

Answer»

My computer has over a 100 reports sent to Windows to fix this and no response. Our hp runs on Windows Vista Home PREMIUM Edition(x32) Svc Pk1, Physical memory 3.00GB, System BOARD Chipset nVidia MCP61, AMD Phenom(tm)9500 Quad-Core Processor, 4cores, 4 threads and current speed 2.21GHz, memory size 512MB, systems directory: windows\system32. Is there any other info that is needed? My system has been crashing often and when I look up problem report I see this error the most? Again over 100 WindowsWcpOther Failure3. In regards to antiviurse I run AVG. Thanks for any help Quote

My computer has over a 100 reports sent to Windows to fix this and no response
They won't reply. They just collect information from you.

What is WindowsWcpOther Failure3? Where do you see it?My system will crash or go blue screen and when Igo to check the problems reports and solutions that is where this is coming up. So it explains to me why my system keeps freezzng or crashing, but then again I'm not sure about tht the last error i got on the plus screen was PFN_list_Corrupt. So I am confuse and dont know what to do in order to gt this CORRECTED. Go to Control Panel/System /Advanced/Performance...
Uncheck "auto restart on errors"

Now you will get a BSOD on errors...post all the info including the gibberesh....or...

Download BlueScreenView
No installation required.
Double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.
When scanning is done, go Edit>Select All.
Go File>Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.Dump File         : Mini090109-01.dmp

Ok this is copy from the BSOD, tell me what you think? I see TWO options, AVG, or RAM.

Uninstall AVG, using AVG Remover: http://www.avg.com/download-tools

Switch to one of these:

- Avira free antivirus: http://www.free-av.com/en/download/1/avira_antivir_personal__free_antivirus.html
- Avast! free antivirus: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

- free Comodo Internet Security (firewall + AV): http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/
NOTE. During installation, Comodo will also allow you to install AV only, or firewall only, if you prefer to combine one Comodo product with some other product.

If you decide to install Avast, or Avira, make sure, Windows firewall is turned on, or use Comodo firewall..
If you decide to install Comodo Internet Security, or just Comodo firewall, make sure, Windows firewall is turned off.

IMPORTANT! Make sure, you use only ONE antivirus, and ONE firewall.

If the above doesn't help...

A. If you have more than one RAM module installed, try starting computer with one RAM stick at a time.

NOTE Keep in mind, the manual check listed above is always superior to the software check, listed below. DO NOT proceed with memtest, if you can go with option A

B. If you have only one RAM stick installed...
...run memtest...

1. Download - Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO (.zip)
2. Unzip downloaded memtest86+-2.11.iso.zip file.
3. Inside, you'll find memtest86+-2.11.iso file.
4. Download, and install ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/
5. Insert blank CD into your CD drive.
6. Open ImgBurn, and click on Write image file to disc
7. Click on Browse for a file... icon:

8. Locate memtest86+-2.11.iso file, and click Open button.
9. Click on ImgBurn green arrow to start burning bootable memtest86 CD:

10. Once the CD is created, boot from it, and memtest will automatically start to run.

The running program will look something like this depending on the size and number of ram modules installed:

It's recommended to run 5-6 PASSES. Each pass contains very same 8 tests.

This will show the progress of the test. It can take a while. Be patient, or leave it running overnight.

The following image is the test results area:

The most important item here is the “errors” line. If you see ANY errors, even one, most likely, you have bad RAM.

ok then i'll start with the antiviurse and work from there, thank you, will hope tht the antivirus will be the problem if not then i'll try the other tht one has me a bit nervous but need to clear the problem. You'll be fine hey guys
Im running into the same problem but i dont have AVG installed

this is what I got when I ran bluescreenview

Solve : Clean Install of Vista Home Premium without System Reinstall Disk?

Answer»

Several months ago (in June I believe) I POSTED a question regarding my wish to accomplish a CLEAN install of Vista on my HP machine.  Of course, when I bought the machine, I did not receive any O/S reinstall disk.  Rather, I was FORCED to create my own factory installation recovery disks, which, of course, include all the crapware included by the box maker.  My question was whether I could use another person's reinstallation disk to do a clean install, and then use my legitimate product key to authenticate the installation.  Well, I finally got AROUND to doing this, and it worked out PRETTY well.  About the only wrinkle was, because I used a new clean hard drive, I had to change the product key to reflect the key I received with my machine.  There was also a problem or two with drivers, but I managed to get those resolved.

Just thought some of the readers might be interested in how this process worked out.Good to hear it worked out and thanx for stopping back to let us know...

Solve : F10 Setup prior to boot of computer, changes do not stay saved.?

Answer»

Windows vista, home premium, 32 bit op system, Service pack 2. a6200n is the model number, it is a hewlett packard. AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual core processor 5000+  2.60 GHz.    There is 6 gigs of ram in the motherboard. I have an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 squeezed in onto the pci express slot (graphics card).  And i am using an antec 900 COMPUTER case OPPOSED to the original case. There are cooling modications, but other than that there are no other major modifications.                                  When I attempt to make changes using F10, and entering setup, prior to the computer booting, I am allowed to make and save the changes. But when i reenter setup on next restart or attempt to distern if the changes are in effect after the computer has booted, EVERYTHING is back to default as before. I can make no changes at all and am wondering if there is something i can do about it. I know how to save changes rather than just exit and discard the changes.Replace the CMOS battery. There is a small battery on your motherboard that's about the size of a nickel - part number CR2032. You can buy these batteries just about anywhere, Wal-mart or your LOCAL drugstore should have them.

Make sure that you're grounded to the case the whole time you're working - static electricity can fry your motherboard!

Solve : Laptop Startup problems and the time it takes to back up files is unusual?

Answer»

I have a Gateway FX P-7805u, which i got a few months ago. at windows start up when i turn on my laptop, the LOADING screen just keeps going and going. so, i have to turn it off manually and turn it back on. it then says that windows was not started correctly and that i can either start it normally or REPAIR the problem. I've tried to repair the problem, and at first, all it said was to do a system restore (which i would like to avoid doing, so I NEVER chose to do it). then, it kept happening, and eventually it started saying that i had to make sure that all media devices were unplugged before i start up my laptop. i tried that, and it still happens. it's now getting worse by having this problem more often. it has gotten to the point where i am now afraid that one day soon my laptop just won't start anymore. what can i do?

if it helps, i bought this laptop refurbished from tigerdirect. here is the link if you need to KNOW anything else about it: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4610279&CatId=3444

and, also, just in case anything is seriously wrong with my laptop, i decided to backup the files. i started yesterday at about 2pm and it went from then to now (12 pm) today, and it is still going. it should only take about 3-5 hours. my friend said it could be something wrong with my hard drive. what other POSSIBILITIES are there? is it a serious problem?

thank you! What happens when you try to boot into Safe Mode?

Power on the computer and tap the F8 key immediately until you come to the Advanced Boot Options.  Select "Safe Mode"   If it boots up into safe mode without trouble, then your problem is likely a driver, virus, or other software..

As I said, see if you can successfully boot into safe mode and post back.

edit: how are you backing up your files if you cannot boot your computer?

Solve : Would this video card work??

Answer»

I'm not sure if this goes here, sorry if it doesn't. But anyway, I'm planning on getting a new desktop soon, and because I'm planning on using it mainly for gaming purposes, I want to get a new video card for it also. This is the desktop and video card:
HP - Pavilion Elite Desktop with AMD Phenom™ II X4 Quad-Core Processor
Model e9120y (Windows VISTA)
RAM : 8GB
Hard Drive Space : 1TB
Total Extension Slots : 3 PCI X1 (Two Available) 1 PCI-E x16 (None Available)
Video Card (That comes with the desktop) : ATI Radeon HD 4350 graphics 512 MB
Processor : AMD Phenom™ II X4
Processor SPEED : 2.6GHz

And this is the video card I'm planning to buy :
PNY - XLR8 NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT EE 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express Graphics Card
Video Memory : 512MB
Interface Slot Type : PCI-Express x16
System Requirements : 1GB RAM; 100MB free hard drive space; optical drive; PCI Express-compliant motherboard; available PCI Express x16 slot; 550W power supply
Additional System Requirements : Two 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors

I'm just plucking information off the products on bestbuy, so yeah. I don't know too much about the system itself. Thanks.Yes that will do you proud if your gaming.. and it's updatable if necessary. Thanks, I wasn't too sure because it said the PCI-E x16 slot wasn't available, so yeah. Quote from: fairfrozen25 on September 25, 2009, 10:28:16 PM

PCI-E x16 slot wasn't available, so yeah.

What do you want it for?Doesn't the video card need a PCI-E x16 slot? o_o. It's part of the System Requirements. Quote from: fairfrozen25 on September 26, 2009, 08:05:59 AM
Doesn't the video card need a PCI-E x16 slot? o_o. It's part of the System Requirements.

Quite right I MISSED that doh... My mind was elsewhere.. heh  Okay, I know that I'm bumping up a old thread and all, but after days of looking around, I started to WONDER, WOULD the graphics card be able to be inserted and properly run with the desktop ( With it not having an AVAILABLE PCI-E x16 slot? )
-EDIT-
I would also like it know if the video card and the desktop together would really be good enough to run games such as Call of Duty, Crysis, or Huxley on it's highest detail. And, off topic I guess, I'd like to see if anybody could recommend me a decent desktop to run those games if this desktop doesn't meet my expectations.
-EDIT2-
One more thing while I'm at it. After a bit more surfing, I found that VisionTek - ATI Radeon HD 4870 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express Graphics Card is also a good graphics card for gaming. It's $10 more than the Nvidia 9800, and some people say it's better, so, I'd like to take opinions on this.

VisionTek - ATI Radeon HD 4870 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express Graphics Card :

Video Memory : 1GB GDDR5
Interface Slot Type : PCI Express x16
Type of Processor : ATI RADEON HD 4870
Number of Processors : 1
System Requirements : 1GB RAM; available PCI Express x16 slot; 500W or greater power supply; CD-ROM drive

I'm not too sure about the desktop's watt/power supply amount, it's worrying me a bit, may someone who knows please help me on this?

Solve : Re Boot help?

Answer»

I have win 7. 64 Bit Home and 4. GB of RAM and a 2. Core AMD Athlon 64. CPU.

I have two Accounts setup on the SYSTEM one Limited Account and one with Administrative Rights.

I can only switch USERS about 3. times what I meen is I can only go back and forth between the two Acounts 3. times.

When I TRY to swicth users on the 3. RD time the screen goes Blue and then the system Re Starts. Then it asks if I want to start the system Normaliy or if I want to start the system in Safe Mode.

I pick Normale and the system Loads ok and I can Log On.

And the system runs and works ok but like I say it only Re Start like this if I switch users more then 3. Times.

So I RAN   Command Prompt as Administrator then ran   chkdsk c: /F

It then ran the next time the system was Re Started and told me there was No Bad Files and there are 73 Prabmlems being Processed.

But this prablem still happens all the time if I switch between users more then 3. times.

So I updated my MailwareBytes and ran it and it can up clean. Then I ran an Update on my Avast Virus program and ran it and it came up clean.

Please help?
ThanksI have more information about when I try to switch between my 2. accounts more then 3. times and I get a blue screen.

It says.

A12MDD.D11
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGEED_AREA

And then the system restarts.

The only thing it says other then that is

IF YOU HAVE ADED NEW HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE TO THE SYSTEM PLEASE CONNTECT THE ADMINISTRATOR.

I have not changed anything or aded anything.

Please help thanksRun sfc.exe - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic43051.htmlI think I may be closer to finding out why my system Re Boots when I go between my 2. accounts more then 3. times.

I whent into the Performance Settings Tab and put a Dot in   Ajust System For Best Performance.
And every Box down the list it toock the check mark out of.

And then switched my system to Clasic Style.

I do not think this woould have that effect on the system but I wanted to ask?

And STEP 2.
I read on the web there is a File for   switching users
what is the name of this system file and how can I search for it to see if my system has it?I have looked on google for the file called   tsdiscon.exe   and it says this is used by the system and I think this may be what is going on.

I whent into contole pannle and turned on Show hidden system files and then did a search and I just found 2.

They both had the same path
c:\windows\winsxs\amd64

but ontop of the first one it found it had
tsdiscon.exe.uil

Now if this is a system file can I not put in my win7. Home CD and run a repair like they had in XP?

Where it would just copy system files back over or is this not one that it would copy over?Ok I found this web page
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/61307-switch-user-shortcut-create.html

I am miss understanding what it says?

It starts by telling you win7.Basic/Home Premuime has Fast User Switching in it.

Then down the page it says if you have win7. Premiume you need a file to download.

Then it says you will need to Switch User account and go to the Log On screen and pick the ather account you want to Log On to if you do not have this Feature.

Ok I have win7. Home Premiume 64 Bit and I made 2. account and when I want to go the the other account I go to my Start Bottun then Switch User.

Then it brings me to the Log On screen and I pick the other account.

So if it did not have it why can I do this?

Like I say it just works for 3. time then goes Blue and Restarts??It would help if you followed my advice from earlier. It will check all the system files and attempt to repair them...What manufacturing brand and model is this computer and bluescreen error message?

Solve : word document minimizes on taskbar if i open second document!!?

Answer»

Dear all
previously i have posted for Trojan issue and subsequently received responses from your team on time
Now i am interested to know or get RID of issue with word 2003, installed in windows home basic 7 platform.......

I work in several Word 2003 documents (on Windows 7 platform) at the same time. When I open the first document it stays open (maximized). If I open a second document, the document opens, but then immediately minimizes down to the task bar. Same result if I open a third document. If I click on the minimized documents to open them again, they open and stay open. why I am seeing a button for each open document in the Task Bar.

with Thanks

I think your usage of "open" is not technically correct.  I believe, under general usage of the term, a minimized document is open.  What you really mean, I believe, is maximize a Word file that is open but minimized.

I have Office 2003 installed on a netbook running Windows 7 Starter but, if I understand your issue correctly, I don't know what would cause that or how to CHANGE it.  Can you post a screen capture of the Word buttons on your taskbar so that we can be absolutely clear on what you're describing? Solve : batch file proplems?

Answer»

hey i recently bought a steam game called total war 2 and the game always froze when i tried to play it so i contacted steam SUPPORT who told me that i propapiply needed to install some files.so they gave me a punch of guides to files i had to download things were going smooth and stuff until i suddenly came across a file namened "clean_vcredist"

it is a batch file and as hard as i whit my insignificant skills tried to install it (or even open it) i failed miserably.after that i searched through all of youtube and google in order to find help but most videos and guides were only people speaking on how to create a new batch(or bat as they called it)file or talking about all the wonderfull things it can do.

so i finaly found this place created account and then i spent few minutes searching for a thread that matched my proplem.in vain....

and so i decided to create a new thread and stuff....

i use a brand new windows 7 the "clean_vcredit" file is in the "computer-> c program-> program files(86)-> steam -> steamapps-> common-> total war shogun 2 -> redist

my computer suggested that the file is in(bad translation) "wrong place" and i need to move it to a correct place.but i am too afraid to move it since i know nothing of bat(batch) files....You may be infected...thats not a Steam file nor game file from what i found...

Uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable.
Run the batch file: clean_vcredist.bat
then you need to reinstall the Microsoft Visual C++ redistribute packages again.
vcredist_x86.exe
vcredist_x86_90.exe
vcredist_x86-sp1.exe
Then reboot.

Your game is not going to run at all if you don't have the Visual C++ packages installed. Quote from: Squashman on January 29, 2012, 11:53:41 AM

Solve : Recover pictures from the harddrive?

Answer»

Hi guys and GALS.  A friend asked me to retrieve some pictures from his Dell computer which won't boot. I thought I could slave the harddrive to my pc and save the pictures but the Western Digital connection is not the same as what's on my pc. Is there an adapter available for this type of harddrive? When I boot the computer I get a black screen saying that there is a hardware or SOFTWARE problem and recommends I do a "Launch Setup Repair". I hit enter and it just comes back to the same message. I can choose "start Windows Normally" but it just goes to a black screen. I ran a diagnostic on the harddrive and it passed. I also ran a Memtest86 on the RAM which also passed the test. I have a Recovery Disk but I'm more concerned with saving the pictures first. Any ideas?http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-5-3-5-SATA-IDE-USB-Converter-Adapter-Connector-Cable-Hard-Disk-HDD-UK-/200698649526?pt=UK_Computing_CablesConnectors_RL&hash=item2eba925bb6

THANKS aussie11. It's not QUITE that same configuration but it doesn't matter now. I was able to boot the computer using the OTLPE.iso rescue disk to save all the pictures. Now it just a matter of re-formatting and re-installing the OS.

Solve : Windows Vista Voice recognition genuine problem?

Answer»

I wrote genuine problem because I'm not just here to whine about the voice recognition not being accurate... I'm kind of new to it and so far the COMMANDS work pretty well, the only problem is that when I want to dictate writing it is completely obscure.  I say "start typing" and if i say individual letters it works fine but when I try to say any words it just seems to throw out random symbols sometimes completely unrelated letters.  I keep doing the training application but it doesn't help.  Also if anyone knows how to SELECT THINGS like the address bar or any other random text box on sites and things I need help with that.  THANK you for any responses.

Go into the bios and set the cd drive to the top of the boot order

my first boot device is ALREADY set in dvd rom. but still the drive doesnt recognized the discOne of three things is happening:

1) The cd/dvd drive is not the first drive in the boot order or
2) There is a problem with the drive itself or
3) There is a problem with the cd

Those are the only three possible reasons you cannot boot to the OS CD

Solve : Windows 7, problem when changing screen resolution??

Answer»

I am having a problem with the windows 7 screen resolution, it seems that it only recognises my LCD's native resolution of 1920 X 1200. For e.g. if I install a game and change the resolution of the game to 1600 x1200, the lcd screen becomes offset leaving me with black borders. I have tried to auto adjust the screen on the monitor controls thinking it was that, and have also tried manually to adjust  the monitor controls but without success. This problem doesn't occur when I am using Vista or Xp to play games. I was going to buy this when it is out but this is putting me of.  So is this a problem with windows 7 or not? When I google for information about this problem, it does APPEAR that other people are experiencing all kinds of problems with resolutions in windows 7. Can someone here, please explain, why am I not able to just set a resolution of 1600 x 1200 like I do in vista? Are your video drivers installed in the Win7 install ? ?

Are your video drivers installed in the Win7 install ? ?
Sometimes people forget...

I have installed the windows 7 video driver from the nvidia website. listed below is a set of resolutions that give me a proper display when running windows 7, but why am I not able to get other displays in between like 1600 x 1200 etc? Well, I can get them, (they are not grayed out) but like I have already mentioned, my screen becomes offset. Why doesn't this only happen in windows 7 and not in windows Xp or Vista?

1920x1200
1680x1050
1440x900
1280x800
800x6009 am haveing same prob i ha ve tried everything but sill no good if u find out what it is plzzzzzz let me noI don't really get why you would want a lower resolution for gaming but whatever. To each his own. I think windows 7 detects the aspect ratio of you monitor and only gives you the APPROPRIATE resolutions (and 800x600). As for why you are getting the black bars, I have no idea. You could play the game in window MODE but then you would have to (or get to) look at the windows environment.

Solve : Windows 7: Korean not working on Facebook, Google even when activated?

Answer»

Hi,

I'm currently having trouble using Korean inputs in Facebook and Google.
I run on Windows 7 64-bit.
I have the Korean Microsoft IME installed, and on Open Office, YouTube, and other such applications, I am able to type in Korean perfectly fine.

Strangely enough, on Facebook, when I try to type in Korean (with Korean keyboard activated), the characters all come out in plain English.
If I want to type something in Korean on Facebook, I have to go through the process of typing it up on an Open Office document and copy/pasting it into Facebook.
I know that my other friends aren't having a problem typing in Korean on Facebook.

Additionally, when I try to type in Korean on Google, I am only semi-successful.
When I try to type in Korean characters into the search bar, the characters maybe first come out in English, type a few characters in Korean, and then goes back to typing English.
For example, if I try to type in something like this:
컴퓨터 (which consists of the English characters :컴 zja 퓨 vb 터 xj)
it might come out as something like:
zja퓨xj
At other times, like on Facebook, Korean does not come out at all, only English characters.

This problem occurs on both Mozilla Firefox 9.0.1 and IE.

Any idea as to what the problem might be and how to fix it?
Thank you for your time.Had a quick look around and found nothing of much interest but may be you should 'contact' Facebook and ASK them. Really taking a stab in the dark here. But could there be any relevance as to whether you are accessing these sites via something (geography wise) that is not their Korean based services? truenorthIf you display the Language Bar at the top of your desktop, does it look like this?:

With the Language Bar like that, I can type Korean in my browser, including facebook.  Some random Korean characters typed from my keyboard: ㅇ시ㅣㅗㅅ대햐ㅗㅁ댜ㅐ;해돔핻;ㅁ.

I've briefly used the Language Bar in Windows XP and just enabled it in Windows 7 after seeing this topic here.  The Language Bar has always seemed like a very finicky, sensitive tool to use.  Maybe it just takes some time to get familiar with it.  One thing I've noticed is that moving from one application to another usually requires toggling the Han/Eng button to Korean when first attempting to type Korean in the latter application.  Once you've typed Korean in a program window, leave that window, and then return to it, Windows usually remembers you were typing Korean there.

Yeah, I couldn't find anything, either...
I might try that since I can't think of anything else, but it's not just Facebook...
It's Google, too, and not only that, but there's no language problem for anyone else who uses Facebook.

Hmm, I don't think so?
I live in the western part of the United States (not sure if I'm allowed to disclose my location here?), and no other computer or laptop here is having this problem.

That's definitely what it looks like when I try to type in Korean.
In that setting, I am able to type in Korean on YouTube, Open Office documents, etc. just fine, but still with that setting on, I type in English on Google and Facebook.
But thank you for going through the trouble of doing that for me.

Thank you for your SUGGESTIONS, everyone.
If you think there are other possible reasons for this issue, I'd be grateful to know.Keep in mind that you would probably not be able to log in to facebook if the language bar was set to Korean and you have your password SAVED by your browser.  Or, Windows may recognize that the language needs to be set to English for the facebook login and change it to English if it was set to Korean.  Then, after logging in, you should be able to switch back to Korean.

Are you using the part of the language bar highlighted in red below to switch back and forth between English and Korean while the main language bar is set to Korean?  Clicking on that part of the language bar toggles your keyboard input back and forth from one language to the other.

Mm, if I understood properly what you were trying to say, I don't think that's the problem.
I don't have the auto-sign-in activated on Facebook, and just to check, I tried logging out then back into Facebook, and tried using Korean--
Still didn't work.

As for the language bar, I'm pretty sure I'm using it correctly.
I toggle both the main English/Korean (first toggle using alt+shift) as well as the second English/Korean toggle you highlighted in red (using just the alt key and changing back and forth from "A" to "가").

To clarify, this is how I type in Korean:
My default language is English.
Therefore, the first toggle usually says "English" or "En".  (And there is no second toggle in this setting.)
When I want to type in Korea, I press [left alt+shift] so that the first toggle changes to "Korean" or "Ko".
When I do this, the second toggle appears, and it says "A", so I then press [right alt] so that the "가" comes out.
The reason I don't simply keep the default language in Korean and use just the [right alt] to switch between languages is that when I type in English using the "Korean A" setting, the font comes out differently.

As you can see, I can type in Korean here just fine.
안녕하세요~Based on your last post, I believe your understanding of how it works is quite correct.  So, I'm at a loss as to why you can't type Korean in facebook.  Anyway, another question or two.  Once you log in to facebook and click in a text box, does the language bar remain as it should to type Korean?  Or, does that second toggle want to jump from "가" back to "A"?  See, that's the strangest part.
I set up everything so that I can type in Korean, so my language bar says "Ko, 가".
I click on a text box on Facebook, and the setting remains the same (it doesn't toggle back to "En" or "A"), so I should be typing in Korean.
But when I type, everything still comes out in English on Facebook and (sometimes and sometimes not) on Google.Still need help with this, please.
(Just bumping up the topic.)Frankly, I don't want to spend more time on this because there is not much more I can do to help.  Have you tried doing an Internet search on installing language bar in windodws 7 or similar phrase?

Solve : How do I Remove transparent boxes around desktop icons?

Answer»

Hi. I've looked everywhere for a WORKING solution to removing the transparent boxes behind my desktop icons (SHOWN in an image I'll upload for you, although I imagine you're all very aware of what I'm talking about). So, naturally. I've tried several suggestions such as dropping shadow, having an html image, replacing .dll files with recommended replacement downloads (not the safest of choices).

So, without any luck I'm here asking if anyone can recommend me a solution. I hate to ask, any suggestions are appreciated greatly.

Remove the shortcut overlay: http://download.cnet.com/Vista-Shortcut-Overlay-Remover/3000-2072_4-10608910.html What a very ugly desktop wallpaper that is!
Not what I was after, but thanks, Allan.

[EDIT] I'll still put it to useI believe it will solve your problem - try it.I tried it. It removed the shortcut arrow, however it hasn't removed the transparent box arounnd my icons.

Sorry. Thought that might have been part of the overlay. The original icons would probably need to be edited in a photo edit app to clean that out...Why does one need to remove transparent boxes?   Well just looks abit crude having them there. It's not a big deal, I know. I've found turning the image size down to large instead of very large gets rid of the box, although the size isn't the same and since I don't tend to have many files on my desktop, I like having large images.Have you tried another background ? ?  perhaps it will be less noticeable.i was actually wondering the same thing..... i just kinda want the same thing. not box AROUND the icon like the way the icons used to be in XPnone of my icons have boxes around them...with mine not sure about the other guy but the transparent box only shows when the mouse hovers over the icon.... any iconlike this icon here

Solve : Win Service help?

Answer»

I am in the Computer Managament and just don't understand a fue settings.
Everything is working I just would like to know what these fue settings do?

Say you look at the Service   FAX Service   you can set it to
Disable   this will Stoip this Service for good.

Then there is   Manual   the will let you turn this Service On and Off  this I don't know how you use.

Then there is   Automatic  this lets win turn it on and keep it in RAM till it needs it again.

Then there is    Automatic Delay  I don't get this.

OK here it goes if you set it to Disable then it is turned off for good. But how does Manual setting work? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_serviceOk the setting that just says   Automatic   just starts the Service when win Bootsup and keeps it running in RAM.

The setting   Automatic Delay   will start the Service when win Bootsup but I did not get it does then? Does it Stop it or what?Quote from the link :
Quote

starts the service a short while after the system has finished booting and INITIAL busy OPERATIONS, so that the system BOOTS up faster
.
Sort of a leeway from the booting time.So if I set any service to   Automatic Delay   the system will start it after the system Boots.

But just for a little bit and then keep it on in RAM so it will act like   Automatic?

Did I get it RIGHT?

I am trying to do a clean install of win 7 and have wiped the drive and installed system files for win98 when I go into setup in dos it says scanning the REGISTRY and reboots immediately instead of doing the scan. Please help I have a pentium 4 an old one an no OPERATING system as of yet, I tried to BOOT from cd by changing the bios booting sequence but no luck there either just says "missing operating system" Thanks. Why do you need Win98 to install 7 ? ?

Also that old PC is probably gonna struggle with 7.

Be more realistic in asking that PC what you want it to do.I have plenty of ram 2 gigs and have had windows 7 on it before and it RUNS fine. I am installing windows 98 so I can lay down xp over that and finally windows 7 over that.

Solve : toshiba laptop running vista freezing constantly?

Answer»

Hello,

I have a toshiba satellite L305-s5955 laptop running vista 2gb ram.  Computer started freezing after 5-10 MINUTES of use and I have to manually power down.  But seems to run fine in safe mode.  I tried to do research, and it does not run hot, no visible signs of dust in vents/fan area, fan is moving.   Is it ok to just run it in safe mode all the time?  I only use it for browsing and selliing on ebay, downloading, editing pics.  I don't think it is infected, but I guess I don't really know.  If someone could help me troubleshoot I would be very grateful.  I have had a bad run in the last year, all 4 of our computers have broken and are unusable in the regular boot modes and 2 won't even boot.  And we broke 3 digital cameras.  I swear we aren't reckless people lol. Just some bad times fell on us and this toshiba laptop is our newest one, so id like to try and fix this one first.  I thank you for your time in reading this! When safe mode works but normal mode doesn't, that usually points to a problem with DRIVERS or startup programs. Did you install any new programs, update your drivers, or make any CHANGES at all to the computer right before this started?I don't think so, but it started freezing a couple months ago, so I am not too sure. Yes.

Click start, type msconfig into the search box and press enter.

Under the general tab click selective startup.

Computer has been running in normal mode now with all services you said to disable disabled.   Running for over an hour, everything good.   And I hardly GOT 5 minutes out of it lately.Okay. Now you need to find out which one of those startups or services were causing the problem. Follow the instructions here under the heading: Determine what is causing the problem.

Once you narrow it down, post back and we can tell you how to proceed. May have been a fluke cuz I started adding programs and it froze again, so I deleted all programs again and was going to reboot after each new program was added (theres not that much on this laptop) but when I deleted all again, it froze up.  So I am guessing thats not the problem? Is that after you rebooted?

Still no problem with safe mode?

Does that computer have another user account? If not, can you create one to see if it has the same problem?yes after the reboot.  Safe mode works awesome.  No other user account on there.  I was told by a friend to run chkdsk, so I did and it froze up at 13% at step 4 of 5.  He says that's an indicator of failing hard drive.  Do you agree?

Solve : Overdrive Media Console and Windows media player?

I am trying to download book form an online library. It REQUIRES a security update to windows media player. When I go through the steps to do this its suppose to start windows media player. It doesn't . Next i went directly to the the player to see if I could download it there The only updates available are  for the player itself and I have the latest version 12.07 so i can't download any security patches. I have looked THOUGH some of the responses here but the only ONE I saw was to update IE. I don't use I E but I do have the latest version of that too. How can I get this security update? Can you post the online book link along with the security update detail or messages? Thanks ....no specific book link just. The message said I needed a security update to windows media player and gave instructions on how to do it . Open Overdrive, go to tool hit the menu then hit "windows media security upgrade"  at which point windows media player is suppose to open and from there you can download an update. But there is no update for security only an update for the program itself. Window media player does not open from Overdrive Media Console.I don't use Overdrive so you might wanna check the suggestions similar to your problem here. Thanks for your help, but no solutions thereI am sorry if no solution is applicable from the thread. Solve : Flashing Bios using USB for Acer Aspire 5515?

Answer»

Flashing BIOS using USB for Acer Aspire 5515 W/ Black Screen of Death.*

Hello. My acer aspire 5515 has the black screen of death. It happened after using the erecovery. Anyway, I've been trying to find specific instructions for my model to FLASH the bios using a USB. The only tutorials that I've found are mostly for acer aspire one notebooks. I have another laptop that I've been using to download the bios from the acer website...I tried to flash using the instructions from the manual for my 5515 but it's apparent that I'm doing something wrong since my notebook never boots and still has a black screen. Here are the instructions for my notebook:

Steps for BIOS Recovery from USB Storage: Before doing this, prepare the Crisis USB key. The Crisis USB key could be made by executing the Crisis Disk program in another system with Windows XP OS. Follow the steps below: 1.Save ROM file (file name: JAL90x64.fd) to the root directory of USB storage. 2.Plug USB storage into USB port. 3.Press Fn + ESC button then plug in AC. The POWER button flashes once. 4.Press Power button to initiate system CRISIS mode. When CRISIS is complete, the system auto restarts with a workable BIOS. 5.Update the latest version BIOS for this machine by regular BIOS flashing process.

???Also, I'm confused about how to make my USB(4gb) bootable...is there anything 'special' that i have to do to it first? Do I need to rename the ROM file or keep it as is? Which bios files do I need to copy to my USB? Is there some sort of download such as 'Unetbootin' that I need to use?

As you can see, I'm LOST. There's so much information and methods of flashing that I don't know specifically whats best for my model.

Id really appreciate any advice that can bring my notebook back to life.

Hi Dan88,

You need to fix the laptop before trying a BIOS update unless the problem of the blank display is caused because a failed bios update which has left the laptop not starting. Do you get Acer on the screen when you start the laptop. What lights are lite on the laptop ? have you tried it with an external monitor ? Until you can see the Acer on the screen the laptop won't boot from USB pendrives SORRY

Solve : Thumbnail help?

Answer»

I am in win7. and if I go into any folder I have photos or videos or graphics I made or anything I see Thumbnails of all of them.

Now I just read on the net that if you turn off the SHOW Thumbnail feature you will speedup seartching in folders.

And I know why as you look in the folder some of the Thumbnails take some time to show up and display.

And I know there is a file called Thumbs.db that the system keeps Hidden in every folder.

And this file is what holds the information about what every Thumbnail will look like so the system will look at the Thumbs.db  file when you open a folder.

But one thing when you close a folder and are not looking at any photos or anything and you go into a Program to START doing your work the Thumbs.db file is not still in RAM?

Am I right the system only opens and looks a the Thumbs.db file when you go into a folder?Turn off thumbnail in Explorer...I believe it's either under View or Tools in the Menu bar...If I turn it off in Explorer Window will this turn it off for all folders?Beginning with Windows XP, thumbnail caching and thus, creation of Thumbs.db can optionally be turned off from Windows Explorer View Menu, Folder Options and checking "Do not cache thumbnails" on the View tab. Quote from: nymph4 on February 02, 2012, 12:33:20 PM

If I turn it off in Explorer Window will this turn it off for all folders?

It will turn off creation of thumbs.db for all folders but it will not DELETE thumbs.db files that ALREADY exist. To do this type this at the prompt

Code: [Select]del /s /q /f /a:h X:\thumbs.db
Replace X with the letter of the drive.
I Opened Windows Explorer and it was in Tools.
Folder Options   and then I clicked View Tab.

I turned ON ALWAYS Show Icones Never Thumbnails.

And this will go though for all my folders? Quote from: nymph4 on February 02, 2012, 01:21:43 PM

Solve : Printing problems with windows 7, IE8, 64 bit?

Answer»

We recently bought a new computer with windows 7 (64 bit) and internet EXPLORER 8.  Now we are having problems printing from the internet.  It previews fine, but when you send it to the printer, nothing happens - no documents show up in the print que.  Is anyone else having this problem and how do I fix it.  It's definitely nothing to do with IE if the print page doesn't appear in the print QUEUE. If the printer configured properly? What make and model printer ? ?
Have you checked their site for Win7Drivers ? ?

If they are not available try the Vista 64bit drivers instead...Yes.  We've had no problems printing from email and other softwares. How long are you waiting ? ?
A web page contains far more data than a text document or an e=mail...We're using an HP printer - not sure of the model SINCE I'm not at home, but it's also new.  I've waited over an hour for a simple transaction confirmation to print and nothing!I'd call HP...i believe they have an 800 #...

2 other things you can try in the meantime....try printing the web page from the print preview window...

Try another browser...I spent about 4 hours on the phone with technical support one afternoon while I was off on vacation.  They fixed several other problems, but couldn't fix this one.  They say it's a microsoft problem. Quote from: patio on January 15, 2010, 03:15:58 PM

Have you tried Firefox, Opera or Safari as patio suggested? Thanks!  I'll try from foxfire this weekend! Please let us know what happens. Enjoy the rest of your vacation I have also ran into this problem. My wife's work has two computers that have the same issue. They are standalone systems they dont share anything. Both have regular ie and ie 64 bit. The 64 bit version when you try to print.... nothing.  You go into reg ie and do the exact same thing to print, it prints EVERY time. Another thing these computers have is while in thier web based email in reg ie the email is slow to load, you hit the reply or compose buttons it's slow also, when you type its slow and missis what you type every other LETTER or so. You do the exact same email in the 64 bit ie it loads faster, it works normally.  These computers are newer running win 7 home prem. Any ideas?

Solve : Should I try a different browser??

Answer»

Now, if you know about my situation about the backup zip files, you know that Im having some problems finding what videos are in what files. Should I try something different, maybe a different browser, like Google Chrome or Firefox?

If my computer is starting to get slow should I upgrade to Google Chrome or Firefox?I know nothing about your situation. But if you're thinking of trying a different browser, feel free. You can have as many installed as you like. I keep IE, Firefox, Opera and Safari installed. If you computer is slow, most likely the issue is not just the browser.
But as you may know, FireFox is the most popular browser. Then:
Opera
Chrome
IE9, IE8
Safari
SeaMonkey
.... and many more
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_web_browsers

However...
You need to take  look at how much space you have on you hard disk drive (HDD).
And you end to scan for virus and spyware.

My question is that I can see my files. I posted in another thread about how I got my files back. Thats not the problem. The problem is that there are so many folders that say "backup zip files" that I dont know whats in them. If I try to look for a video or document, I cant find it because I wouldnt know where to start looking, Is there an easier way I can go through my folders and find what Im looking for, instead of spending mins. and maybe hrs. goint through each "backup zip files"?

You are asking 2 separate questions:

How can I search withing zip files and/or list their contents?

If my computer is getting slow will changing to a different browser help matters?

To answer your questions in reverse order, the second answer is "no".

What operating system are you using? From your previous posts, you appear to be using Vista. By default, Vista treats Zip files like folders, so you can just use Windows Search to list their contents, I would have thought.

Windows Search is located where the folders are right? Could it be possible that some of my files are lost? How would I check to see if that?If this is a continuation of another thread, please do not as the same question(s) here. If this is all new, carry on.It kind of is from another thread.Your main problem is how to organize zip from already unzipped files in folders on your drive. The OP should indicate which Operating System (OS) he is using and what computer he has. If he has turned on the windows index thing, he can expect the computer to be a bit slower. But not a whole lot.
The OP says he uses PGP encryption. I have not idea what this means. PGP should only be used on specific personal files, not the whole computer. But I don't know everything.

Your main problem is how to organize zip from already unzipped files in folders on your drive.

How would I be able to fix this problem? You need to put in a location or partition of your drive or external drives all zip files and MOVIES. Name the folders as zip1, zip2. All extracted zip files and movies to folders name movies1, movies2. You should not look for any specific first. Think of your hard drive as your room. I think thats already been done. I have backup zip folders 1, 2,3,4,5 etc. with files in them. I just dont know whats in them. Thats what Im trying to figure out. You need to extract the files. If after extracting revealed you have already the very same file from that unzipped file, you could always delete it.Many media players have a way of building a simple database without the need to move stuff around. Moving stuff around just for the sake of organization is not a GOOD practice. Adler all, it is s computer. Computers can build lists very quickly. Moving files is slower and can make trouble. Exception: moving files to another device to conserve space of the system device makes good sense.

How To Organize Your Digital Media Using Simple Steps In Windows Media PLAYER

If you have a huge library of musics organizing those collections can be difficult. Using the built-in tools of Windows Media Player you can make the task much simpler. Microsoft Windows Media Player does more than just play. Windows users can use it to import their CD collection into digital music files, burn audio CDs, and organize their music collection by generating playlists and adding album art. One of Winodws Media Player 11′s strengths is in organizing music by album; it’s simply faster than iTunes(sorry Apple fanboys but this point is true). And browsing albums by cover is, well, fun. Combine it with Vista’s search technology, which is built in to the player, and you can cue up any album just by typing in the first few LETTERS in the Search box and then clicking on the familiar album cover.

Solve : Correction option on toolbar and problems starting up??

Answer»

I hope I'm posting this in the right part of the forum. None of the other topics seemed to fit.

Anyway, my computer is a lenovo B570 that RUNS Windows 7. I just got it this past Christmas, so it's brand new.
Lately, my computer doesn't want to turn on. It doesn't happen EVERY time I start up, but it happens rather often. The computer will
boot fine, until it gets to the log-in screen. Then it will say 'Please Wait...' and freeze right there. I tried WAITING it out, but it never continues. It DOES boot in safe MODE, however.

Last night was one of those nights where it decided not to work. Specifically, I had just turned it off, and my MOM wanted to use it. It had been about five minutes since I shut it down, but I tried turning it back on. And...it froze. Multiple times.

But, on to the newest development, when I got up this morning, it booted fine. However...there's a new icon on the toolbar. It's a document icon with a red check on the side of it. It appears next to the language bar, because I've switched to a Japanese locale. When I mouse over, it says 'Correction', but clicking on it does absolutely nothing and right clicking only gives me toolbar options.

So I'm asking two questions: What is the 'correction' icon for, and why won't my computer start sometimes?

I appreciate any help.

Now, my Realplayer is working as well as my Realplayer converter. My problem is that I still think I have some backup zip files that I cant get into. How WOULD be to find some of the files Im looking for?

I've done advanced searches, indexes etc. and must have checked 90% of all my backup zip files and I know there are some files missing. How would I be able to find them because I dont know where each file is located and Im spending hours upon hours looking? What app is creating these zip files ? ?Im not sure what app? Can you list some of them and I can see because Im not sure?Im not sure what app it is. Quote
Not if they are zip files...
Each zip needs to be openrd to view...

Yeah, so why can't you just extract all of them and then do your search? It will be much easier then.Shows how little I know about computers. What do you mean by extracting the files?

Solve : computer reverted back to an earlier time.?

Answer»

A friends computer as reverted back to an earlier time possibly when the computer was first booted up, the reason i think this is because the free software that comes with computes like norton anti virus request installing.
Originally her brother gave her this computer so i dont know the full history of the computer, but its lost al her personal data.
This is a hewllet packard computer.
O/S Vista home premium. 32-bit
AMD Athlon (tm)64 bit processor
RAM 1918mb
Ive thought of running the hP recovery partition but the bar indicating the amount of storage used is coloured red were it is normally blue.
Thanks for any help jhaddIf the process of "going back to an earlier time" was executed through the "system restore points" the data should not have been lost. So  i am suspicious that that was the actual process used. However to ASSIST you to try and determine what was done and possibly retrieve the personal data i am linking to a SITE that details the "restore points" process when done correctly and also tells you how to come forward with the recovery.
http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/software/3230706/how-to-create-and-manage-system-restore-points/
If after reading the article and perhaps trying the process related you have further QUESTIONS please come back, truenorthThe PC will not "revert to an earlier" time without User intervention...it simply doesn't happen that way...

Tell your friend they need to explain what exactly they have done so you can take the proper corrective steps.

I run into this fixing people's PC's all the time and they say "it just happened"...i take the approach if you can't say what's been done ask someone else to assist in fixing it...normally right about then they explain what transpired.

Never MIND the RAM comment...i misread...

Best of Luck.Ive run the recovery partition on this computer i backed the files up to an external hard disk.
There are to folders in the backup files on the external hard disk, i click on one it started to look for files then came up with an error message and STOPPED searching for files when i click on it again nothing happens.
I click on the  second one i get the message unable to open FWB files apparently this is a Hewlet Packard extension ive looked on their site without any succes.
Thanks for any help jhaddThe FWB file type is primarily associated with 'FileWrangler' by CursorArts Company.

I right click it, click properties, capabilites, and at the bottom is says run this program as administrator. Except it doesnt give me the option of check marking it? I dont understand why not. kk thanks in advance.I've got a feeling we're gonna need alot more info...lol ok. Lemme put it this way. For every single app on my desktop, more importantly the game Aion in which im trying to play. Every single time i go to change the compatibility level on the aion launcher,  to run as administrator, it wont allow me to check mark the box which says run as administrator in the privledge box and i dont no why. lol i dont no how much more i can explain it..http://www.tipandtrick.net/2008/how-to-take-ownership-and-full-control-permissions-of-files-and-folders-in-vista/

Everytime i look at C drive, it seems the amount of GB's of ram i have keeps going down.... Why? lolI like the 2nd one...Nice Find ! Quote from: patio on September 03, 2009, 10:13:23 AM

I like the 2nd one...Nice Find !
I love it. It's been on all my Vista systems from day one. Even with the very powerful SubInACL (which I also run on all systems), it's amazing how many times I've used that context menu item.As for the "DISAPPEARING space", it's probably system restore.WHATS that lolol please help im scaredYou should be scared of global warming, people driving while texting, and the boogeyman, but not computers.

Also, you need to start using Google. System restore creates "restore points" (snapshots of your registry) so that in the event you run into a problem you can revert the registry to an earlier time. These restore points take a lot of room. You can go to System Properties - System Restore and reduce the space allotted to System Restore.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306084

Info to read about system restore

That or you have one of those nasty viruses that replicates itself like an ATOM splitting, but maintaining its weight. Check the system restore, and turn it off. If it keeps going up rapidly, run a virus scan. I had a viruses that would constantly make itself bigger, until it filled up my hard drive and crashed me. Granted this was a long time ago, when xp was bugged out. Quote

haha. strange analogy, seeing as atoms don't normally split by themselves, because if they did then ZOMG this world wouldn't be intact

but yea some viruses can create a file, then duplicate itself (like uncontrollable cell mitosis), forming a cancerous tumor in your hard drive that keeps growing until it fills your hard drive - metaphorically speaking of course

i remember one time carbon wrote a batch script that created a text file containing the single letter a, but then continuously duplicated itself and merged the two duplicates until i started noticing something was wrong with my usb..........*sigh....drawing ANALOGIES between computer viruses and cell mitosis and atoms splitting is like drawing a analogy between a glass bottle and a pair of shears.Haha, apologies. How about it reminds me more of nuclear fission. It can split an atom, and make it smaller, in an instant making (in the case of an nuclear bomb) a huge explosion. Sorry i read the book "uranium" a couple weeks ago and it is still stuck in my head. (its strange to me that something can split, making it half of something ELSE, and repeat this process, until it turns into something much larger, strange.)

Solve : cds wont read or burn but dvds will?

Answer»

My computer wont currently read or burn cds but it will read dvds and burn them as well. any help would be awesomeThere may be different lasers in the system.  The one which handles DVD's is still working.  The one which handles CD's is not.is there any way i can get it work again?Do you have a BOOTABLE cd? If so, make sure the cd is at the top of the boot order in bios, insert the bootable cd and REBOOT. Does the system boot to the cd? If not, the DRIVE is shot. If it does, the problem lies within Windows, not the drive. Quote from: flutie715 on September 14, 2009, 09:50:05 PM

Do you burn a lot of CD's if so you may have burnt out the CD laser.DRIVERS!

almost EVERY cd drive i come across that wont load is either BROKE, or it has corrupted drivers. I would uninstall it, then install new drivers for it. Since your cd drive works half and half, i would really try the driver idea. good luck.Optical drives haven't required Drivers since WinME...you can safely ignore the above advice. Seconded.I have removed the cd drives under device manager and then reinstalled them with newer drivers on a friends laptop, and it worked. I know you never have to download updates, or the driver itself once you install OS, but if it stops working, its definitely something you can try.there aren't even different VERSIONS of the driver- it's a generic driver for a entire class of devices, much like the floppy driver works with any floppy drive. The uninstall/reboot method is however a perfectly good way of fixing Drive issues, but it does absolutely nothing to update the driver.

The issue in that case is corrupted registry entries in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet as well as HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE etc etc. by uninstall the driver in device manager and allowing windows to redetect the drive, the entries are re-created once again (when windows refers to the appropriate INF file that is stored in the windows folder)

Solve : computer capitalizes words in sentence when it's not supposed to be capitalized?

Answer»

I am trying to GET information for my friend. He has just RECENTLY PURCHASED a computer and is now taking college courses. In his writing class, when typing paragraphs, he has to double space them. When he hits the enter button twice to double space the next line, the first word of the next sentence automatically capitalizes after he hits the space bar in the next line. Can you please help us to correct this.I would guess that whatever program he is typing in is set to automatically capitalize the first letter of each paragraph.  For example, OpenOffice has the ability to automatically capitalize the first letter of each sentence.

The program should have a setting to disable that feature.
What program is he using; Microsoft Word?I think microsoft word or office 12 or something. I'm not sure. ThanksHere is are some instructions for how to disable the Microsoft Word AutoFormat feature.  [Link]Stop using double space. Don't hit enter twice.
Do your work normally. Save it. Later when ready activate double space before you print or export your document.
http://geek9pm.com/pix/line_space.pngOk one THING that needs to be said... Can you tell us what it is you or said friend is using to type this.. before we all speculate. Is it word? Wordworks? notepad? wordpad? Let's be specific here people.Well it's a word processor program, like OpenOffice or word- Notepad doesn't auto-capitalize, you see.

And whatever the program, it will surely have a double-spacing option.Word and OpenOffice both have an automatic function to put in double spacing. For Word, it's in the 'Paragraph' MENU option (pre-2007)(one of the top menus, don't recall which one). For 2007, it's on the 'Home' tab, 'Paragraph' section, right next to the alignment buttons.

In any version, you can set exactly how much spacing you want between the lines. Default for Office 2007 (and might be for previous versions, don't remember) is 1.15 spacing. When using this feature, you don't need to press enter to double space and it won't capitalize every first letter of every line. Just type normally and it will double space as you go. No need to edit any autoformat settings or anything else.quaxo,
Thanks, that is want I wanted to say.  Quote

Let's be specific here people.

Lighten up....

All the responses would apply to any word processing app out there...
